Fantastic experience: I am so appreciative of this YMCA. I have been to a few of their classes and the instructors have always been great. I constantly use the Child Minding to watch my infant son. They take very great care of him while I get to workout.

I use the pool because I am disabled and cannot exercise outside of such and the pool staff are great, especially that one young boy he works very hard and is very diligent.

Positive experience: Great place to take children 13 and under. Amazingly nice staff. Very informative as well. Willing to help answer any questions. Will also give you information on more spots to take your children around the City of St Catherine's

Positive experience: The pools here are nice and spacious. The locker rooms are plentiful. The showers however do not warm up immediately like the ones in Toronto, and the sauna room requires a plus membership. The fees are also higher due to the lower population density of St. Catharines. Granted, the facilities are nice to use and include multiple gyms, equipment and dumbells.

Negative experience: This facility has a great gym with working machines and pool, but I’m shocked that I’m paying $60 a month at least for my membership and I can’t even bring a guest without being charged. I feel that on my journey to become stronger, mentally and physically, that I should be allowed to bring someone for emotional support. This is not easy, and not a lot of people, such as yours truly, cannot pay for all these this by ourselves. They charge you for towels too, which should be provided freely by this ymca. The staff’s attitude Varys between the members, but the later I come the more agitated they seem when I ask them questions. I’m always being questioned, as I should not be for I have not acted suspicious or anything of the sort.

Negative experience: bro i gave them 20$ for a day pass, i got a 5$ 2 loonies and one 2 dollar coin and i did not receive the right change. i came back to ask if i can they money i needed back but they did'nt believe me. sadly i didnt get a receipt.

Fantastic experience: Love this spot. The staff are welcoming and helpful. Very attentive. Place is huge and has pretty much everything. I love that they do membership assistance here. If you’ve never heard of it, you bring in your notice of assessment for the previous tax year and they’ll knock a percentage off of the membership price based on that information. Think a regular membership is $56. I got a 50% deduction with membership assistance and only pay $23 per month, which is fantastic seeing as it’s the best gym in St. Catharines. Like I’m getting so much for pretty cheap and that’s pretty dope. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: As a Trans person, I've had a lot of horrible experiences at gyms. I've been physical assaulted, harassed, asked to leave, etc. I tried 4 different gyms, and it was all the same behaviours. So I stopped going to gyms for about a year. Which sucked, because I love working out. However, when I went to the Walker YMCA to sign up, I met two awesome people. They made me feel welcomed, didn't assume my pronouns (and didn't mis-gender me once they knew!), they empathized with my past experiences, and assured me that my existence at this gym was valid and would be protected. It was honestly very emotional for me to hear this. Also, on the sign up forms, you can choose Me, Female or Other, which is pretty awesome! Thanks for making me feel safe!

Positive experience: This gym is expensive and there's not much free range to do what you want, but you'd be hard pressed to find another place with as much variety in activities. Personally, I've been going for yoga and squash, which are hard to find offered at the same facility, so that's a blessing for me. My only issue is they don't have the yoga in a quiet room or even try to separate it. We do it in the middle of the running track surrounding by work out machines that usually get left out and the staff will yell at you for touching them. In fact, last night when I tried to fold a machine up one of the staff, who was giving a tour of the facilities, nearly bit my head off in front of the potentially new clients. She then went on to sarcastically apologize to them about how she had to pause the tour to put away the machines. The staff rarely have a crummy attitude and luckily I've never had to deal with this employee before, but I hope I don't run into her or her negativity again. Also, what kind of gym doesn't let you touch the equipment?

Positive experience: YMCA. People are amazing here. Luv it!

Positive experience: A bit expensive if you go for the Plus membership, which I had to do in order to be able to use the whirlpool and sauna. The towels are small, rough, and not very absorbent. It's not great, but better than having to bring a towel from home.

Fantastic experience: Place is fabulous! On ODSP and they have a system to help folks like myself. The place is cleaner than any gym I have ever seen. The pool is lovely. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. This is my escape from the stress of a modern world. Reccomend over any other gym!

Positive experience: A great general health club. Very clean facilities and the pool is spacious with lots of opportunities for lane swimming.

Negative experience: The staff is super nice and friendly, but I'm really unimpressed with the membership overall. The only reason I'm still at the YMCA is because it's a 5 minute walk from my house. The membership is extremely expensive (over $60/mo for a basic membership). Maybe it would be worth it if you're into the classes, but if weight lifting/strength training is your main goal, I'd say this is a rip off. The equipment is limited (only one hip abduction machine, really?) and the pre-weight barbells are atrocious. The weight room is extremely small as well. It's to the point where I cant walk in with a routine in mind because I have to improvise based on what is available. And again, the pre-weighted bars are awful. I have a hard time with the rack, so I rely on pre-weighted for my squats, deads, and lunges, but these bars are soooo long and clunky, i barely have enough room to safely get a full range of motion. Another thing that really rubs me the wrong way is that you can't use a locker overnight. At smaller, cheaper gyms, I understood this policy, but the locker room is HUGE and I'm paying a premium price. I cant even get my money's worth with the pool because they have a giant window to the pool right when you walk in so there's no privacy. Not to mention, you have to pay for towel service every time. At $60/month I find that pretty offensive. Plus the showers are a thing of nightmares. I'm going to have a heartattack one day from getting blasted with the ice cold water. I think the Y would be a way better value if you could opt out of classes and activities (I dont have kids) and pay a more reasonable price. I'll be switching gyms ASAP. Fit4Less and similar are a way better value imo

Fantastic experience: Friendly knowledgeable staff. Great place for adults and so much for kids of all ages to do safely. Amazing saff that have great teaining as well as CPR-C (children) as a requirement of all employment here. Daycare facilities on site, too many summer camps for kids to mention as well as camps for other school. holidays. Too many programs to mention for kids of all ages. One of the best beaing their Leader Corp Program. I highly recommend it for kids, the learn many core values, responsibilities and leadership skills all while having fun with new friends. Very valuable program.

Negative experience: Too much chlorine in pool. If ur skin is dry, your skin will be burnt. Swimming wear also dead fast even goggles becomes white after swimming. A bit terrible maintenance.

They have a free early years centre in the building through the Ontario government and public health holds free “well baby” check ups here every Wednesday. If you pay for a membership, add on Swimming lessons, kids programs galore, fitness for adults...the list goes on. Haven’t had a problem yet and we visit 4+ times/week
