MOVATI Athletic Kanata: Opinions
Fantastic experience: I have been working with a trainer, Sarah Nour, and being her client is simply a very positive experience. She graces me with so much love, care and support. Sarah has helped me so much and I certainly would not have been able to achieve so much, as well as forming and working toward further goals without Sarah.
Positive experience: They increase the prices but remove feature. Busier than ever, removed all the comfy chairs and installed brand new extremely bright lights that people complain cause headaches
Negative experience: I had an extremely disheartening experience today as a beginner at Movati’s hot yoga studio class led by Sasy C. As someone new to yoga, I try hard to keep up and follow instructions to improve my strength, balance, and core. However, due to my tendency to feel dizzy when keeping my head down, I needed to modify some of the poses. When Sasy C. noticed this, he asked if I was okay. I politely responded, “Yes,” but his tone quickly shifted as he pointed out I wasn’t following the instructions. Despite me trying to explain, he interrupted and told me to move to the back if I wanted to “do my own stuff,” in front of about 30 other participants. I felt utterly embarrassed and humiliated. I packed up and left the class feeling devastated. This encounter could have been handled much more compassionately, with consideration for a beginner’s limitations. Speaking in a more understanding, quieter tone would have made a world of difference and encouraged me to continue trying to improve. I hope Movati will address this issue and ensure instructors can create a welcoming, supportive environment for all members, regardless of experience level.
Negative experience: Had a membership here. I cancelled it. Payments stopped coming out of my account. Several months later i am being harassed and called names by a collection agency for money i do not owe. I have called and they confirmed I cancelled yet still being harassed by their collection agency.
Negative experience: This ONE STAR is for The General Manager Ryan at MOVATI Kanata is, without a doubt, the rudest person I’ve ever encountered. His attitude is shockingly unprofessional, and he has shown a pattern of discriminatory behavior that has created a hostile and uncomfortable environment. This goes far beyond simple rudeness—it's behavior that no one should have to tolerate in a place meant to be inclusive and welcoming. Until MOVATI addresses this, I don’t recommend it to anyone who values a supportive and respectful environment. I hope management takes this issue seriously for the well-being of its members and community.
Fantastic experience: Movati Athletic is hands down one of the best gyms I’ve been to! The staff are incredibly friendly, welcoming you with a smile every time, which makes a huge difference. The instructors—especially for the Zumba, dance, yoga, and power barbell classes—are absolutely fantastic. Martha and Sonia, in particular, are my favorite Zumba instructors of all time! They bring so much energy, passion, and fun to every class. Each instructor is handpicked for their expertise and ability to motivate, and they know how to keep the routines exciting and effective. The Zumba and dance classes are a blast, the yoga sessions help me feel centered and relaxed, while the power barbell classes push me to achieve more. Every class leaves me feeling uplifted and in a fantastic mood. The gym itself is very clean, and they pay attention to every detail, from the well-maintained equipment to the tidy and comfortable facilities, making clients feel valued and cared for. The atmosphere is perfect for those who want to stay motivated, have fun, and be part of a supportive community. I highly recommend Movati if you’re looking for a gym that makes fitness something to look forward to!
Fantastic experience: Really impressed with the gym being going there for 2 years. There is a wide variety of equipment to use with a lot of space so you don’t feel too crowded. After my workout I enjoy a nice soak in the hot tub which rejuvenates me. I was greatly distraught when I found out that they removed the pool table. Me and my buddy enjoy to play a game of pool every so often after our work out. I hope if they remove the pool table they will replace it with something new and better.
Negative experience: Everything they say is untrue/not the full truth until you read the small print and/or click on another link. I called hoping to enroll for the deal listed online.. only to be told that that fee is only ONE of TWO facility fees, the cheaper of the two, even. It has nothing to do with your membership which is more than double the listed deal, plus the 2 'enrollment' fees, since they have to put you into the system and create an account. Fair enough, however, they still have me on file! There is 0 extra work, 0 minutes of labour, zero fees for them, yet I have to pay over $60 to continue the membership I had within a year of this. They can't even offer any wiggle room when you decide against enrolling and signing to another gym. It's a beautiful gym. The policies are the problem. I have had a membership here atleast 3 times and reluctantly paid this fee each time. Yet they've removed the daycare center, the TVs in the locker room, and it's always filthy and understocked. I just can't afford to be paying almost double the other gyms which are the same quality now, since movati has been seemingly slowly declining. I miss the old movati, I've gone for years religiously since it was the athletic club. I'm not sure what perks they're offering now, that the cheaper ones don't, some of which have even more amenities.
Fantastic experience: In my opinion, unparalleled facility in Ottawa; well managed, great classes and instructors, extremely clean. I’ve been a member since it’s opened and the level of services has been consistent! Highly recommend this club
Fantastic experience: Great gym. Amazing staff. Especially the spin instructors
Fantastic experience: This gym is truly amazing! The staff are incredibly friendly, and the atmosphere is always welcoming. The facility is clean and well-equipped, but what truly sets it apart are the exceptional classes, especially yoga, led by all incredible instructors.
Fantastic experience: Great facility, friendly staff, excellent classes and the instructors are extremely engaged and highly knowledgeable. Amazing value.
Fantastic experience: I switched from GoodLife to Movati because I always had a hard time getting a good workout in a reasonable amount of time. Movati is rarely packed to the point where I can’t find a machine or weights to work with. People/staff are friendly. This location is getting 5 stars mainly because I began my personal training journey at this location with Victoria. I’m now a certified gym-rat — She’s helped me make so much progress in just under a year with a personalized workout plan and meal plan. I’m so pleased with my experience and my results. Totally worth the self-investment if you’re able!
Negative experience: Due to a shoulder injury I had asked my home club if I could put my membership on hold for a few months (Which at the time of signing up their "membership coordinator" had told me there would never be an issue). I was told the best they can do is freeze my membership for 2 weeks if I provided a doctors note. I found this ridiculous as a doctors note would have costed me more than my bi-weekly payment. Funny enough if you enroll on their website it even states you can freeze your account up to 12 weeks per year (which is apparently a lie just used to falsely lure people in). I had also explained I had been a member there since 2015, and supported them through covid keeping my membership going even though I was barely able to go to the gym because there was rarely appointments available. Their membership coordinator (who took days to get a hold of by the way) didn't care. He wasn't even apologetic, nor did he care that I wished to cancel my membership. For a place that claims to pride themselves with a great facility and good business practices, their customer service severely falls short. I wanted to reach their head office at the time to let them know my experience and couldn't seem to find a way, which has lead me to believe they are aware and either encourage these practices or just don't care. I left this facility that I enjoyed very disheartened and disappointed. The only piece of advice I can pass along is to avoid this business because even with all of the staff they have working there they could give 0 @#^s about their clients.
Negative experience: Front desk staff and private trainers were nice but managers were extremely rude. Multiple instances where I could overhear managers/supervisors berating the staff under them. Facilities were okay but not worth the cost of membership.
Fantastic experience: I want to give a big shoutout to Juliana, the aqua fitness instructor. My daughter Luisa, who has autism, joined one of her classes, and I was so impressed by how Juliana went out of her way to make Luisa feel comfortable and included ♥️ It’s not every day that you come across someone so thoughtful and kind. The entire experience was fantastic, and we left feeling really grateful for her care and attention. Thanks Juliana (from another Juliana!)
Fantastic experience: Nice gym, like a 4 star hotel/spa. Lots of room. Been a member here since 2015. Outside of the relatively limited hours, it doesn’t get better than this place in Ottawa.
Positive experience: The gym is uncomfortably hot and smelly due to poor air conditioning. When I brought it up with the staff, one walked away mid-conversation, and the other just nodded without addressing the issue. It’s hard to enjoy working out in these conditions.
Positive experience: It’s a good gym. The only reason when 4 starts not 5 because at this cost they charge you expect the machines are top notch. But it’s kinda average and some of them do sucks like the leg extension machine. Overall it’s a good gym I would recommend
Negative experience: Movati cares about one thing...your money... My wife lost her job unexpectedly...we are senior citizens and have 3 memberships...because Movati doesn't have a family plan. It is very tight financially without my wife working. I asked Movati if we could drop from three to two memberships. NO! There is zero compassion for loyal customers...I seriously wonder if a client dies...do they still owe the balance of their contract...probably. This has left a very sour taste in my mouth...I mean what sort of company offers no compassion or flex....I have read other similar reviews...so I guess Movati is that kind of company .. I won't be back.
Negative experience: I visit sometimes from out of town and Kanata is not my favourite location. It's dirty, lacks in quality/resources, and they don't offer challenging fitness classes. Most of their instructors are not as good, compared to other locations in Toronto. I stick to Pilates and free weight/cardio training, and I'm out! I recommend Nepean location though. I tried it a couple of times and all in all, better quality and comparable to Mississauga and Burlington's clubs.
Fantastic experience: I have been a yoga instructor at Movati Kanata for 2+ years and have truly loved my experience as both a member and employee. The community is incredibly supportive, authentic and compassionate; encouraging my growth as both practitioner and instructor. Staff and management have been nothing short of supportive of my professional growth! The studio has truly become my second home <3 Thank you Movati for all that you've done and offered me over the years!
Negative experience: While Movati is generally a great brand, this particular location in Ottawa falls short. The facility feels outdated, and I’ve noticed similar concerns in other reviews about the service quality. What really disappoints me, though, is the inconsistent behavior of the reception staff. A warm greeting should be standard, not dependent on their mood.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic facility. Customer service is outstanding. Very clean and well organized. Knowledgeable trainers and huge variety of classes
Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough wonderful things about Danielle B at Movati Athletics Kanata! From the moment I step into her class ( Movati Drums), Danielle's boundless energy and positivity fill the space, creating an incredibly motivating and uplifting atmosphere. She has a remarkable ability to make every workout enjoyable and challenging. Despite my packed weekly schedule, I always make time for Danielle's classes. Her passion for fitness shine through in every session. Danielle's classes are not just workouts; they are experiences that leave you feeling empowered and accomplished. I highly recommend anyone looking for an inspiring and dynamic instructor to join one of Danielle's classes. She truly is a gem at Movati Athletics Kanata!
Negative experience: I'm actually shocked and I Typically don't write reviews. I've been a member of the Movati Kanata branch for more than 4 years now, and about 10 months ago, I convinced my wife to sign up for Movati. It's been 10 months now and my wife is 7 months pregnant and on bed rest. I asked the gym to cancel her membership until she is ready to return, but they refused to do so and insisted that she will have to keep paying until the end of the year. Apparently we signed a one year commitment, though the sales agent assured us we could cancel at anytime. My recommendation is to avoid this gym, or plan your membership sign up around not starting or adding your family. P.s I cancelled my membership on the spot. And the managers are avoiding my calls. It's all about the MONEY for them sadly. Disappointed
Fantastic experience: Great gym with plenty of amenities! The staff are all quite helpful and friendly.
Positive experience: great gym. but a little disappointed that they closed the kids' room. we signed up because of this, but shortly after we joined, they closed the kids' room
Negative experience: I moved away and need to cancel my membership. They wouldn't take the cancellation over the phone or by digital signature. Only in person or by registered mail. You can sell you house more easily than cancelling your membership here.
Fantastic experience: Great facility. Front desk staff are welcoming and classes are great. Instructors I've taken classes with have all been really friendly and brought great energy.
Negative experience: Very rude!!!
Negative experience: They have rude staff and very poor management. They don't care about their customers, if you bring staff's impolite behaviour to the management they make you the guilty one. Don't recommend them at all.
Negative experience: My friend and I had this incidence this last week at this location and after bringing that up with their management they deflected that back to us and refused an apology. We were waiting for a member to finish her workout on the only bench for chest press. While standing their we were watching TV and chatting. Then out of blue one of their trainers, Chris, approached us like a aggressively and asked us to move from there. Seeing his rude manners and given the fact we were not doing anything wrong to wait for an equipment to become available we refused to move. The trainer kept acting outrageously and argued for minutes with us. After reporting that to their manager, Ryan, he just shrugged and said he did not have enough evidence his trainer was aggressive. Then I asked him to cancel my membership. He told me that the only option for me would be terminating my subscription as if we were at fault. If you get harassed by their staff you will be accused of starting the problem and have to continue paying them.
Negative experience: Zero customer service and respect for clients. We experienced an act of racism from one of the trainers, Chris. The managers, Ryan and Gerame could not even get him to apologize. The trainer aggressively shouted at us to go away just because we were not far enough from the bench he was training although we were 3 meters away. He was super rude and arrogant.
Fantastic experience: The instructors here are the best!
Fantastic experience: Movati has everything! Great gym!
Fantastic experience: Great gym, clean and spacious!
Positive experience: Really enjoy going to this gym - I like most things about it. However, it was very disappointing and a hit to the value of my paid membership to suddenly lose access to the childcare that closed just two months after I signed up (not sure what the reason was that was given) and then also recently found out without notification (or reasons given as to why) that Sunday Family Swims were also canceled out of the blue! Initially, my husband and I were drawn to this gym as it seemed to provide avenues for parents to live an active lifestyle as well - parents not privileged enough to have childcare or family accessible that is - or single parents. Now, it kind of seems like that was all just smoke and mirrors seeing as those draws were gone within only a few months. Too bad.
Positive experience: I am happy to be a member of this athletic center, as it is well-equipped, offering a variety of classes from Hot Yin to Zumba. However, I am not entirely satisfied with the application itself, as it could be more user-friendly. For instance, it would be beneficial to have the ability to rate trainers and leave comments about the courses. Additionally, there are some other features within the application that could be improved to enhance its professionalism.
Negative experience: Equipment is broken for months at a time. Things that are cheap like handles are all broken falling off. Ripped benches don't get repaired. Men's change room always dirty, broken. Men's spa area/ pool constantly closed for female classes. Squeaking equipment.
Fantastic experience: If you are looking for a personal trainer I would recommend Victoria McIntosh. I personally feel more confident at the gym since I joined thanks to her! She is very nice, kind and understanding trainer. I really enjoy my sessions with her.
Fantastic experience: I do partner sessions with Victoria McIntosh and would highly recommend to anyone looking to get into fitness and improving your activity overall
Negative experience: Unfair cancellation policy. Watch for 30 days cancelation date. They charged full month cost to cancel.
Negative experience: One of the reasons I took the membership because Movati staff told me that one of the benefits of being a member was the Sunday family swim. Today they abruptly removed family swim from their schedule. I called the gym and one of their managers told me that it was not a part of the core package and basically the gym could do whatever it wants. I asked what if you remove the weights from the gym tomorrow or the treadmills? He said it's not the same. For me it was one of the core reasons. That manager rudely hung up the phone saying I was being disrespectful for cutting him off when he told me that swim and treadmill/weights were the same for me. Please answer.
Fantastic experience: Great fitness centre and nice people. So far so good!
Fantastic experience: Love this gym! The shakes are great too! Especially if ruth is making them, shell make you feel right at home! Highly recommend :)
Positive experience: It used to be my favorite club but they changed their policies and now it's a mess. Nobody is allowed to be even 1 minute late for any classes, few weeks ago this rule was only for high risk classes . Few weeks ago I came for restorative yoga class and instructor decided to wait 3 minutes for other people , even if it was time for a class. If I come late 1 or 3 min. nobody letting me in. Where is consistency? Why some members have privilege to be late and others don't? When I came only 1 min.late for anti-gravity yoga, they locked the door and I was not allowed in. Everyone knows that instructors take only 2-3 min. to introduce themselves. Movati employee told me to knock the door. I was knocking for a few min. and the instructor didn't even look to my side. Movati manager told me it was the policy for high risk class and they don't have to open the door for me. I was not the only one late, other lady was surprised too as usually they open the door even few min. later. It's very confusing as everyone tells you a different information. Why did other instructor told me this rule is for all classes when I was 3 min. late for other class? Also, often people use cell phones in a hot tub and they are allowed as per Movati policy. It's so disrespectful to other people that came to relax . Next issue is hot yoga class with noise from next door class with pop music and electrical guitar sounds. Yes, you can hear this music during yoga class. When I came to the instructor to ask if she ever brought it up to a manager to have this class at a different time to avoid loud disturbing pop music bihind the wall during yoga class she replied : "No, some people like it and may be I should try classes at a different time" . Honestly, I didn't even know what to say. It's very terrifying how people can be so careles. The last issue is dirty male change room. Don't be surprised how I know it. My family member went there for 2 years and all these 2 years change room was dirty with a bad smell, even towel hooks were covered in a film from old dirt , they were not shiny. I try to complain and he did it as well but nobody contacted us. Sometimes, I have feeling that some people like dirt. Why people don't say it on social media enough? I only noticed 1 recent bad review regarding dirty male change room. I ask all people to speak up. If we all connect they might change something. I have never seen such a poor swimming pool etiquette like at Movati. Most people don't take a shower before going to the pool even some man after the gym go to hot tub without taking a shower. Often weman scratching their body with nails in a steam room to exfoliate the skin and the skin goes on the seat. It happens on regular basis. It makes my stomach sick. People think Movati is high end place because of high membership price. If it was true they would keep their old members. Expensive doesn't always mean good. I don't understand what happened to this place after the pandemic. I was so happy when I signed up again but I realize it was a wrong decision. I think this place needs a very good business coach.
Negative experience: Worst gym in Ottawa. Customer service is next to nothing. If anything goes wrong you're going to blamed for it. If you want to be treated like a child and under appreciated for paying your membership fees to keep this hole in Kanata operating then this is the place for you. The absolute worst trainers I've ever encountered as well, only a couple have any real training.
Fantastic experience: I just started at the gym and I beyond impressed with the cleanliness as well as the amazing staff. Phong Ly definitely deserves a raise
Fantastic experience: Clean and quiet
Negative experience: Machines have rips on them for several weeks and they still haven’t replaced it even tho I left them a feedback. The men’s locker change room is always dirty and especially the steam room full of tissues they barley clean it
Negative experience: Someone very close to me has been suffering from a serious inujury sustained while working out at this facility. Injury to lower spine, multiple hurneated discs, and injury to sciatic nerve. I believe the cause was deadlifing (Romanian deadlifts most likely). Many months of rehab and still not healing. Please please please folks, use caution when working out.
Negative experience: My customer service experience was horrible. I'd leave a 0 star if it was an option. I went in to inquire about the membership packages and was greeted by Riley. She was rude and made me feel self-conscious about myself. Stay away
Negative experience: I was a member for a year , the cleanliness of men's change room has gone down drastically.
Fantastic experience: Movati offers highly advanced gym facilities. The indoor aquatics are a real treat for water-lovers. In addition, they have a dedicated female-only fitness center. It's the ideal spot if you prefer privacy during workouts. They are not solely about fitness; relaxation facilities are also provided for a balanced routine.
Fantastic experience: Movati is a great gym. their fitness classes are divers and almost all of the instructors are excellent in their jobs making the workouts fun and exciting.
Negative experience: Leaving one star because I cant leave zero. I was out of country and I called to cancel and they told me I have to do it in person. After two months I arrived back and i have informed in person the closing of contract 15 days prior to end of month and according their policy they ask me to pay additional month without utilizing the gym. I spoke with the manager and even if the gym was not used in the past three years they did not take in account the contribution made in order to waive the 30 days. Bad business.
Fantastic experience: Good and clean gym. Except when my boots were stolen. Put your boots in the lockers and don’t forget them.
Positive experience: I recently joined about a month or so ago and have been coming 4-5 times a week to workout in the women’s only section. I love the women’s only section and it’s not too busy when I go, but almost always half the treadmills aren’t working or the tvs on them don’t work. Most of the time there’s someone in there loudly talking on their phone, or sitting on machines not using them. And also people are awful at not taking the weighted plates off the machines when they’re done, and the free weights are almost never in order either. For paying this premium price for the gym, it almost isn’t worth it with the poor member etiquette and employees not frequenting the gym enough to make sure it’s clean and organized. The machine variety is good, but the machines are old and most of the knobs to adjust the machines are broken off or hardly work.
Negative experience: Very sad about the playroom closing at this location. This was a wonderful service that helped members with young children stay active. Would give a better review if this was reopened in the future
Negative experience: Closing down playroom with little notice and no compensation. They fired their playroom staff without offering alternative employment. Clearly not a gym for everybody. Enjoy the Pilates.
Fantastic experience: Love the classes. James, David, and Shannon have all been so great. Happy I chose to come here! I've been going since September 2023 and all the fitness instructors are great!
Fantastic experience: nice and clean facility. Staff are super friendly!
Negative experience: Before digital signing stage I saw different amount then signed the digital paper without caring it. Then I realized that biweekly amount is higher then We agreed. I talked with manager and manager behaved like I was not aware of anything and showed me the digital copy. But eventually I will terminate my membership after 1 year period.
Fantastic experience: Good day pass experience, lots of equipment. Music is the right volume, not too much. A crazy lady yelled at staff for a non issue thinking we'd left lots of weight on equipment but we hadn't. In the end she got in trouble for taking a photo of us and we got 2 free smoothies and staff all apologized for what we experienced.
Negative experience: After watching the most inconsiderate couple use every machine and never take any of the weights off I decided to handle it with the staff instead of confronting the couple and escalate it more than necessary. I went and talked to the front desk and asked if they would handle it. I went back upstairs to lift, and a female member of the staff came up and asked for me to point them out. I did, and she said she didn’t see any weights on any machine, so I pointed them all out… at which point she started in on me never addressing the couple. I asked why she was giving me grief and not dealing with them, she said there is no rule you have to put your weights back. Left and never talked to them. I am an able bodied gym goer, but I have seen frail, elderly and very petite people not be able to use machines because of people like this. I am not the only patron who has had enough of this behaviour.
Fantastic experience:
Fantastic experience: A day pass is about 33 bucks which seems normal It has the latest cardio equipment and lots of machines to choose from in the free weight area. The turf room needs some ventilation but a good area to use a rowing machine, assault bike and sled. The showers and changing room are extremely clean
Fantastic experience: It's clean and not busy at all the staff are super friendly and the facilities and amenities are well looked after
Negative experience: Seriously Literally just 1 minute late for my cardio class and was told I had to leave. Very interesting as this same instructor has admitted members who were up to 5 minutes late before. I ran back to the front desk to report it and was told it all depends on the instructor or should he have said the mood? @movati kanata 21July 2023 @ 4:11pm I give 5/5 for instructors like Kelly, Etienne and Chris. Movati Kanata is a good place however there is room for improvement on customer service.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been a member of so many different gyms over the last 20 years and Movati Kanata is by far the best experience I’ve ever had. Not only is the club beautiful but it is meticulously maintained. The cleanliness is amazing and the staff that work there are fantastic. From the moment I enter the club, I feel more upbeat and in a better mood. The quality and quantity of machines are great and anytime something breaks down (which is rare), they are quick to repair. In the 2 years that I’ve been a member, I’ve seen numerous updates and upgrades around the club from new machines to the addition of new shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion (which smell great btw)—it’s the little things that make a big difference for me. I’m not a swimmer but the pool looks nice and the sauna and steam room are a great way to relax after a workout. I just started taking advantage of the classes, and again, nothing but positive things to say. The yoga studio has a great vibe and the instructors are super friendly and knowledgeable. I used to always look for the best/cheapest deal and frequented the discount gyms but after being a member at Movati, I would never go back. I actually drive 30 minutes to and from the club because it’s just such a great place to workout and I feel part of a community of people who are all there looking to better themselves. My only wish for the future is that guided meditation classes get added to the class schedule as that would be fantastic. Oh, and if Movati is reading this, maybe a cold tub, too :)
Positive experience: The new cancellation policy is ridiculous. Two hours is too early and it’s equivalent to not having any cancellation possibility at all. This was not even announced prior to its implementation and jumped from 15 minutes to 2 hours suddenly. If you increased that you should increase the number of possible times of no show or reduce the penalty of two weeks suspension as well. Otherwise it means you’re not looking for a an improved service and you’re looking for less service for the same money. You need better customer relationship thinking and improve strategy.
Fantastic experience: Best classes and amazing trainers!!! Etienne R. Such an amazing trainer and his classes are superb. I love all the trainer. Carol, Erin, Jenna, Kristen, Cal.. and more. The staff is very friendly. I mostly prefer the group classes and love the variety of options and never have to go to the gym area to workout alone.
Fantastic experience: Great gym with many classes and caters to different exercisers
Negative experience: I talked to the front desk yesterday and the lady I talked to was very rude. I usually go to barrhaven location and the staff are usually nice at the front desk. Would not recommend this location.
Negative experience: The facilities and classed are good. But their sales are not insincerity. I asked him can I have a free bag when I registered, and then he answered with No. But only a couple of days later, I noticed an ad from Facebook, they did provide free bag to new members who registered at May. And I sent an message again, they refused to provide the bag with the excuse “existing members.” THEY DON’T CARE EXISTING MEMBERS!
Fantastic experience: Movati Kanata is in a central location beside Home Depot and across from Costco Kanata. With only one road in and out for the gym, costco, and other businesses, traffic can get busy. In all, it is worth it to have a women's only gym and fitness class studio as well as a women's only pool (with hot tub, steam room & sauna). The classes are excellent and diverse: hot yoga, spin class, kickboxing, zumba... including womens only classes. There is an online booking system for class reservations, and the number of remaining open spots is shown so you can see if it is sold out or how busy the class will be in advance. Bookings are checked before entry to avoid classes being over-filled. Post-workout, the protein shakes at the juice bar are so tasty!! Staff are pleasant, and the entire premises are well-maintained and clean. Great mix of ages and fitness levels! It's always a great workout at movati: The gym for everybody!
Fantastic experience: Gorgeous gym. I especially appreciate that they have a women-only gym (even power racks) / pool. Clean and friendly staff. Best gym I've visited in Canada/USA.
Fantastic experience: I really like this location! I will break it down: Classes: there is a lot to try until you find your favourites, but I absolutely enjoy their zumba, bellydancing, pilates, core challenge, dance & sculpt, aqua intensity... The aqua classes fill up fast, like some other popular ones. Cleanliness: I often see the cleaning staff in the locker rooms at different times of the day and they are constantly moping and drying the floor, and I often see them disinfecting the shower floors too. The airflow seems good enough that even upstairs -with all the machines and the sweating- it doesn't feel stuffy. Studios/rooms: new, spacious, clean, lots of props. The women's studio is bigger than at Trainyards. Perks: I like the free apples for guests (it's a nice touch!), the availability of extra mats if you can't bring yours, the lounge - sometimes I just work remotely from there. Value for money: overall it is great. I was looking at joining fitness classes near work and drop-ins were around $25/class. If I were to join twice a week, that would cover my Movati fee. Instead I can join as many classes as I want, or just go use the treadmill, or sometimes just use the hot tub and sauna. Kids: if you bring your kid to their daycare while you join a class, I think it's something like $50-60/month on top of your membership, and the kid can stay there for 2h each time which is more than enough for a class/workout plus shower and some pampering. Quite unbeatable considering the cost of a babysitter or daycare several days a week... Potential things to improve: I wish they had non-dairy milk at the cafe, it's so odd not to have any. The hair drying area could do with stools/chairs like at some of the other locations. Maybe reduce waste from single-use disinfecting towels by offering little hand towels that can be dropped off and washed like we do with regular towels - there is so much waste when we clean up after using each mat or machine...
Negative experience: My issue happens pre Covid but it’s not too late to warn others; don’t believe or trust anything during the personal training assessment when you get your membership, at that time Matthew lied to me about the process and over promised; he even went so far to tell me they will contact my doctor in regards of health issue and customize the training accordingly. The personal trainer was very nice and professional; he wasn’t aware of the promises made to me and it was clear it was all out of his scoop. The personal training manger wasn’t helpful, in fact he wasn’t professional. Movati manager was extremely nice but couldn’t refund me my money, they still owe me $500
Fantastic experience: All the classes are top notch. Perfect for building your body.
Fantastic experience: Always been a nice place, clean and friendly. Glad I’m back ❤️
Negative experience: It's a great club, but beware: there's just soo many rules!!! Ok I get that rules are needed, but some need to add some common sense and be communicated better. For the classes you have to arrive in advance or you won't have access, there's no flexibility. Now, we arrived within 10 mins before the start of the class, but were blocked access when some people were already in, it makes no sense! There's a social component sold in the membership for the classes, but what's the point if not everyone can get access? 10 mins before class is reasonable! Going to the gym & classes is meant to be a smooth experience, but it's getting very strict. Also the front desk staff who have to enforce these non-sense rules get snappy when questioned which is not a great client experience to be talked that way and only escalates frustrations.
Fantastic experience: Worth it, just for the yoga classes. Awesome instructors and good variety of times for the classes
Fantastic experience: I have been a member of Movati since 2011 (before it was even called Movati!), and I can't recommend this gym enough to my friends and family. It's a beautiful facility with all the equipment and space that I need, amazing staff, and the classes are absolutely phenomenal. My favourites are the hot yoga and the kickboxing classes. The instructors are incredible - and with everything included in my membership - I pay a fraction what I otherwise would if I had a membership at a yoga or kickboxing studio. Thanks Movati Kanata!
Fantastic experience: I was reluctant to pay for a membership at Movati, as mid/post-pandemic my workouts were mostly done from home. However, now that I have, I am sure glad I did. The yoga classes alone are worth it. Every instructor I've had has been great - Brian S especially. I only wish that the classes didn't fill up so quickly, or that they were offered more often, as I am somewhat of a last minuter...and want to take advantage of any free time I might come upon. I've read some of the other reviews and can not believe what some people choose to complain about. For the money, with all the amenities you could choose from at Movati, you are way ahead of anywhere else. I have always found the staff very pleasant and helpful. Equipment malfunctions and obtaining parts are beyond human control. Yes, they are a business and inspire to grow - but they are very personable and know most of the members by name - I have always felt very taken care of there. Club is always clean and well maintained.
Fantastic experience: Recent new member and I love this club. Everyone is so friendly, the staff, instructors and even other members. Everyone is there to help. The cleanliness in the woman’s change room is amazing, there is always someone in there ensuring the place is 100%. Lots of fitness class options and several options for cardio. Happy to be a new member! Well worth the membership fee!
Negative experience: I was extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Movati. I had my personal item (worth $300 ) stolen while using the facility, and the staff was unhelpful and unsympathetic when I reported the theft. The security measures in place were inadequate. When asked for the footage of the camera which was pointing straight to the area I placed my item, I was told that the footage is not available due to bad weather which I don't understand how is it possible for an indoor camera to not record a footage due to bad weather and it just stopped recording when someone took the items from that place, weird eh! What's the point of having the camera that does not work, never expected this from a gym that charges more than other gym and have the same or lower service. I been following up with different managers and other customer reps everyday to check the status and till date there is none.(seems like they don't care) I would never recommend it to others due to the lack of proper security and poor customer service.
Fantastic experience: I highly recommend Movati Kanata. This gym is always kept so clean. They recently renovated, allowing for more open spaces for a more comfortable work out. I especially love their hot yoga classes - Shelly is my favorite instructor. She encourages going at your own pace - which is great for someone like me who uses yoga as rehabilitation.
Fantastic experience: I struggle going to co-ed gyms, as I'm sure most women do. But the moment I walked into Movati I felt so comfortable. Not only do they have a womens section, but everyone who works there or who is a member is always so kind and welcoming. I've never walked through their doors and not had a friendly smile and "hello!" to greet me. Ana (one of their yoga teachers) teaches the BEST Hatha class on Saturday morning - I highly recommend it. She leaves clothespins to clip to your mat so she knows you are "open to adjustments" and being touched. I just love it. <3
Fantastic experience: Movati offers a wide variety of classes. My personal favourite is hot yoga! Lots of amazing teachers, challenging if you want them to be and beautiful studio! Pricing in not even comparable to regular yoga studios and every day there are many classes to choose from. Love it!
Negative experience: Their hot yoga has gone way way way down. I was one of their first clients when they first opened up in Ottawa and I went for years. Life got crazy with kids and multiple jobs and so I had give up my membership. Things have calmed down now and so I just went back and did a week trial…yikes - their yoga is complete garbage. People’s phones going off, people leaving early, just general disregard and disrespect; a complete divergence from yoga practice to really just any other fitness class. Also their membership fees are insane! 100$ bucks to enroll AND 30$ facility fee AND you have to pay the prorated amount to get you to the first biweekly payment - of 54 bucks…so basically $200 just to get signed up and over $100 a month thereafter. Maybe it’s because they don’t need to care because it doesn’t affect their bottom line - but their customer service is also a major thumbs down. Another sad example of a money hungry corporation that used to place a primacy on client service but greed has clearly won. Don’t be fooled by the argument that the cost is due to all the amenities you have access to - this is only true if you plan on actually using alll the amenities. If you don’t need a pool, I’d suggest trying somewhere cheaper - like GoodLife - they have a beautiful club in kanata. If you’re into yoga, you’ll find way better and more affordable classes at either Yoga Town, Beyond Yoga or Pure Yoga etc.
Negative experience: Horrible policies They have a policy that you have to cancel a class if you don’t go and if you don’t show for three classes in. Two weeks you cannot register for a class for two weeks. They suspend your membership and you cannot register for any classes. Today they suspend my membership booking and I’m told you have to cancel a class 2 hours before so you can free for others. This is not written on the front page. It just says to cancel before a class. So. If you book a class and another class you wanted to take becomes available. You cannot take that class. You will be penalized which is so wrong. I understand the need to have people schedule classes. But two hours!! Sometimes especially if there are hockey games. You can’t get to class in town. Or something happens. There's traffic. You have a family emergency. You had an injury. Life happens. You have to give Movati two hours to cancel a class There’s aren’t many other options for that type of faculty. But I highly recommend not to join. The pool Water is cold when you do aqua classes The change rooms has afew women who walk around with cels phones in the shower area. People leave locks on over night. Boots have been stolen and there is no option to put in your locker.
Positive experience: Please change hours to 7/24.Even worst gyms open 7/24.Please ...
Fantastic experience: I personally really like the atmosphere around movati athletic. Just today I had a huge leg day and I wore burgundy shorts (rookie mistake) and let's just say I sweat through them so it looked like I had relieved myself and I didn't really feel like I was being starred at. Everyone is welcoming and I never feel judged for sweating. Being a new goer the atmosphere is a must. I feel like movati offers that. And I must add: as someone who embarrasses themselves quite a bit, I don't feel embarrassed going there, ever.
Positive experience: Nice gym good clean and equipment is all new. Has a good energy
Fantastic experience: Great facility with fun energetic and helpful staff. Alot of amenities to choose from for literally all ages. Classes available at different levels of membership.
Negative experience: I wanted to cancel my membership due to Covid reasons and the club is forcing me to go to movati to cancel my membership. I think it’s pretty poor service considering I have been paying on and off for 2 years during Covid with no use of the facility.

Fantastic experience: I've been with Movati for 4 months now. Consistently friendly, clean and a great motivating environment. Keep up the good work everyone. Can't wait to get back once you're open again.
Thank you for the 5 stars! We appreciate it!
Negative experience: Customer service is not professional at all!
