Our comment from FitFit Canada about Robert Lee YMCA:
The Robert Lee YMCA in Vancouver is a remarkable fitness center that offers a wide range of facilities and programs. Users appreciate the friendly and helpful staff, as well as the clean environment throughout the center. The gym features a great selection of workout equipment, including free weights, machines, and numerous cardio options, making it suitable for various fitness levels.
Members enjoy access to amenities such as the swimming pool, sauna, and steam room, all available at affordable membership prices. Many users also commend the YMCA for its community spirit and commitment to health and wellness, highlighting the welcoming atmosphere that helps individuals achieve their fitness goals.
However, it is important to note that during peak hours, the facility can become quite busy, leading to potential waits for equipment. Despite this, the overall consensus remains positive, with customers frequently expressing their satisfaction with the services and facilities offered at the Robert Lee YMCA.
Robert Lee YMCA: Opinions
Negative experience: On more than one occasion, pool staff have come to the hot tub in men’s plus and dump powered chemicals from standing height right next to people, without announcing or informing anyone what it was. Bear in mind this is a sunken hot tub where heads of people using it are the level of the foot of people standing outside. The power becomes suspended in the air and could be breathed in. I’ve mentioned this to the front desk and looks like nothing has changed. The other comments about staff (with the exception of a few) being indifferent and unwilling to help is true. One particular staff member sits at the front desk on her phone and pulls a face if you walk up, without fail! It’s like you’re interrupting her right to not do her job. Also the ‘brand new’ steam room has reopened and it hasn’t worked since a couple of days in. There’s been a sign on the door about ‘adjusting’ it for weeks! You’d be lucky to see steam, every other hour.
Negative experience: Why does the line take so long?! Not enough staff or not trained appropriately. It can be a huge waste of time when you’re trying to check in for the gym during your lunch break.
Negative experience: Was there with my 3 year old yesterday morning and they wouldn’t let her in cause she needed I.d for safety reasons poor girl was so sad leaving there never will go here again .
Fantastic experience: Back in 2019 and earlier I Lived in Vancouver with my two boys I was a single mother and the Robert Lee daycare helped me beyond anything I could have ever asked for my younger son was super difficult with learning difficulties at the time but they never made him feel different instead they hired a new staff member just for him! This helped his self esteem and self worth and he is 10 years old now and is doing very well now and an exceptional basketball player thank you for believing in him and never giving up on him it was a hard journey but thanks to your help he turned out to be just fine !! Thank you from the bottom of my heart xoxo
Negative experience: The elevator is frequently iut of order; great hardship for elderly & handicapped
Negative experience: The YMCA Men’s Membership Plus steam room has be under construction for over a year now without any tangible construction progress. The staff and website is constantly giving vague answers about its progress and there is no completion date. It is a major facility benefit for plus membership with no financial compensation for this significant loss of benefit. Very frustrating for this lack of accountability. .
Negative experience: they called police on people when all they need to do is talk to them. this place is wild. going to tribunal board of canada with this. the wall of reviews is enough to plead my case alone. thank you google reviews.
Negative experience: They only do cancellations, change of workout plans and other stuff that would help the customers through email. I tried to cancel my plan through email and they take 5-7 business days to get back to you and two more weeks to effect the cancellation so they can charge you at least one more time even if you’re not using the gym. Terrible
Negative experience: I had a horrible experience at the YMCA today. I went to the front desk with general inquiries about classes and membership, but the receptionist (Sia) was extremely unwelcoming and rude. She had a dismissive attitude and seemed uninterested in answering any questions, as if she disliked her job. Her responses always started with 'Check online or check the brochures.' While I understand that I may not have been fully prepared, I expect better customer service. The way she spoke to us was very unprofessional. Spoke with Diego, the supervisor, afterward. He understood my situation and was able to take my feedback.
Fantastic experience:
Negative experience: Classes have been cancelled way too often, instructors not showing up, staff simply don't care. The swimming pool often closed for whatever reason YMCA makes up, the steam room is not open for years. We are paying members, not free riders, it's beyond frustrating. I am cancelling my membership. Don't buy useless furniture as you planning, and notifying in your ridiculous emails. Get rid of the half of your disengaged staff, pay to your instructors instead, maybe they won't be cancelling as often if they get paid. It's awful and maddening the way Robert Lee YMCA operates. Don't get a membership at Robert Lee YMCA, there are lots of issues I haven't mentioned.
Fantastic experience: The YMCA gym boasts an impressive array of equipment that caters to a wide range of fitness needs. From state-of-the-art cardio machines like treadmills, ellipticals, and stationary bikes to a well-stocked selection of free weights and resistance machines, the gym ensures that members have access to high-quality gear. The equipment is well-maintained, clean, and up-to-date, making workouts both effective and enjoyable. The service at the YMCA gym is truly commendable. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to assist. Whether you need help with setting up equipment, advice on fitness routines, or information about classes and programs, the staff is approachable and eager to provide support. Their professionalism and dedication contribute significantly to a positive gym experience.
Negative experience: Due to my disability I swim every morning to be able to stay mobile so been coming here for more than a year and the main reason why I signed up was because of the "steam room" and the pool. When I first signed up the steam room was out of service but they said it would open in 2 weeks. I waited for a month and asked again and they said "It'll be open in 2 weeks". A few months after that I started complaining about it and wanted to cancel my membership but been told again that it would open in "2 weeks". Honestly this Y is so poorly managed that even the staff have no clue what is going on. On top of that the pool schedules were never accurate and now closed for a month so I just cancelled my membership. When I was cancelling my membership they said I could also freeze my membership so I won't have to pay until the pool re-opens, although this wasn't mentioned when I was signing up. I was away for a few months so could've used that information. Awful management and customer service.
Negative experience: To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to express my concerns regarding the recent conduct of the staff at YMCA Robert Lee, where I have been a member for nearly nine years. Historically, I have consistently experienced helpful and attentive service from the staff. However, recently, I have observed a noticeable decline in this level of service. Specifically, I have encountered several issues that I believe warrant your attention: • Staff members, particularly the afternoon shift ladies, often appear disengaged, spending extended periods talking among themselves or using their phones for personal activities, such as scrolling through Instagram. This behavior seems to affect their responsiveness to gym-related issues. • Certain machines, such as the Smith machine, are frequently occupied for extended periods, limiting availability for other members. Additionally, large training bags are often left beside benches, creating obstacles and reducing workout space. • There have been instances where members seeking assistance with equipment or other gym-related matters have been met with staff members who seem irritated by these requests, as they are engaged in personal conversations. • Weights are frequently left on machines, posing a problem for other members who may not be able to lift these heavy weights. I fondly recall a time when the staff was more proactive in ensuring that the gym was well-maintained and that members’ needs were promptly addressed. It now seems that staff members spend a significant portion of their shift seated and only begin organizing the facility shortly before closing time. I trust that you will consider these observations and address the concerns to restore the high standards of service and attentiveness that the YMCA Robert Lee has been known for. Thank you for your attention,
Negative experience: Thanks for putting your Canadian flag back up after a year. I know it was hard for you woke losers.
Negative experience: what is going on here? you need to replace your management.yikes
Negative experience: Not enough weight equiptment for busy hours. Worst showers. Tried 3 of them and all were broken, impossible to turn it on, once you manage its extremely hot, wont cool down. All i heard were screams from anyone tried showering. I had to leave without showering which is the reason i wont be going back
Fantastic experience: Amazing facility, looks like new! Lovely staffs.
Fantastic experience: My favourite place to swim and work out
Fantastic experience: Great place to workout and join activities. Good monthly rates, good community and good overall service.
Fantastic experience: One of the nicest YMCA's I've ever seen. Large well-equipped gym, large lap pool, spacious lounge area with a smoothie bar, spacious lockers and shower areas, a large basketball area with hardwood floors and everything else you can imagine at a better price than most gyms. In the heart of downtown Vancouver.
Negative experience: When I first joined everything was great, now not so great especially with this booking process that now seems a permanent thing. The steam sauna keeps moving the opening date back with poor excuses. The reasons I signed up were the yoga classes and the steam sauna and without it , I go only for cardio exercise machines, but only sparingly.
Fantastic experience: the universal changeroom makes such a difference to me as a nonbinary trans person ️️⚧️
Negative experience: The plus membership is $112/month and none of the amenities work. The steam room has been under renovation since Oct 2023 and was originally scheduled to reopen in Feb, then delayed to June 2024, then further delayed to “sometime in the future”. The jacuzzi is out today (May 7), no warning, no signs no communication. Not sure when it will be reopen. This gym used to be a really good one even though it’s a bit pricy. But lately it’s just pricy.
Fantastic experience: Pleased to share Hilary Team Lead from RL YMCA is very professional, courteous and customer service oriented. She resolved the issues within few min during my teaching session with large group of students. Please continue excellent work. Community needs your help!
Fantastic experience: Lovely gym, great classes and excellent customer service which has created a welcoming space for everyone. As a relative newcomer to Vancouver the gym created a feeling of community for me.
Negative experience: Not a pleasant place, one of the most overcrowded gyms I have ever seen. I have never once seen a rack even available. The steam rooms and pool are also frequently closed
Fantastic experience: Great gym with all the essential facilities in place and good cost-saving family membership plans. The only minor con is the large number of visitors during peak hours, which makes workouts less comfortable. P.S. The on-site café serves very decent (by Canadian/US standards) coffee and tasty, healthy snacks.
Negative experience: -3 for lacking the public showers for $3 still available across the country, confirmed by Jamie Platz in Edmonton. Take an ID, sign a waver, hire some security. Boom. Homeless issue resolved and more people will likely offer patronage.
Fantastic experience: My recent visit to the YMCA on Burrard Street turned out to be an exhilarating journey into the world of powerlifting. Stepping into the weight room, I was immediately struck by the atmosphere of determination and focus. With a variety of equipment available, I was eager to put my strength to the test. Starting with the barbells, I loaded up plates and began my deadlift session. The smoothness of the bars and the well-maintained equipment allowed me to concentrate fully on my form and technique. As I lifted heavier weights, I could feel myself pushing past my limits, thanks in part to the supportive environment created by fellow gym-goers and staff. Moving on to the squat rack, I found myself immersed in the challenge of conquering increasingly heavier loads. The adjustable safety bars provided peace of mind as I pushed myself to new heights, both physically and mentally. The thrill of completing each set filled me with a sense of accomplishment, driving me to push even further. Finally, I tackled the bench press, where I focused on refining my technique and building strength. The availability of various bench setups catered to my needs, ensuring a comfortable and effective workout. With each rep, I could feel myself getting stronger, inching closer to my fitness goals. Overall, my experience at the YMCA on Burrard Street was nothing short of exceptional. The well-equipped facilities, supportive atmosphere, and dedicated staff made for an unforgettable workout session. Whether you're a seasoned powerlifter or just starting out on your fitness journey, this YMCA is the perfect place to unleash your inner strength and achieve your fitness goals.
Positive experience: Pool - Gym - conference room - elevator to LM should have stairs. Poor design
Negative experience: The gym itself and facilities are nice… when you can actually use them. They have completely oversold memberships for this gym, and not just in January. It’s constantly busy at all times and it’s like a jungle during peak times. Six men at one squatting rack - ridiculous and unsafe. There is no floor supervisor / supervision, people set up in the middle of the floor, in front of the racks, anywhere to get in a workout, it’s sad and unsafe. They let kids 11-13 year olds run wild in the cool down/ stretch Astro room they jump around off the different exercise balls and equipment. I do not recommend this gym to anyone who is serious about working out.
Fantastic experience: Love my swim instructor here and the adult lessons that they offer, the pool is clean and well-maintained. It can get a bit busy on Saturday/Sunday mornings at the pool, but the weekend afternoons are pretty quiet.
Negative experience: There is no one monitoring the many who decide to reside in one weight machine, checking phones endlessly and not working out. No management, staff and trainers seem to be in charge. A large building with a lot of wasted space.
Fantastic experience: I love this Y! Clean place and staff / volunteers are so helpful. Lots of classes. I only wished they bring back morning cycling classes during the workweek. Really a great place to hangout. I mean, workout!
Negative experience: There’s no consequences for man spiting in the pool. That’s already a public health concern, not a cultural thing
Fantastic experience: New equipment added but membership fees same. Thanks YMCA :)
Fantastic experience: Large clean facility with many amenities
Fantastic experience: Got the family membership, reasonable price considering all you get. Gym, classes, badminton, squash, Basketball, swimming pool. And they have child minding and other stuff for kids that you have to pay a few dollars extra, but no big deal. My daughter will love it
Positive experience: Nice little cafe in the city Center. Toilets available and cheap sandwiches and coffees available. Ideal for a little break after a city tour ! The service was a little bit slow but otherwise I can’t say anything negative !
Positive experience: It’s one of the busiest gyms I have ever seen. It’s impossible to use the machines.
Negative experience: Please hire personable and knowledgeable front counter staff. The young lady at the front counter does not know her co-workers, wasn’t approachable, or friendly at all. I was almost scared to go up to her and ask a question.
Negative experience: Great facility although $72 a month is too much. Steam room mens not in service still, ridiculous hence the low stars
Negative experience: Member Services are poorly trained, not equipped with the minimum requirement to proper inform patrons about the facility. Mix information with different member services representatives! Would highly advise looking elsewhere as this place is extremely poorly operated.
Negative experience: It is a nice place to practice sports, but when you ask, they do not have accurate information in the month of Marg. I asked about a swimming course. They said they have in the month of May. Come here and register. I went there. They said not because it is in the middle of May. And also .I went they said in the month of June ... I want one word, not every time something, I want credibility and complete information
Negative experience: This place is the elitist community center. They discriminate against people for not having a credit card. You shouldn't need a cc to be able to utilize a YMCA monthly pass in any TIER, especially the plus memberships. Those are the kind of things that make a difference to people who NEED IT. They also never paid me back for my lost time from covid. After they closed they said they would. When I came back I wasn't even in the system anymore. ROBERT LEE should be embarrassed to see how inefficiently this building is at helping the people who need it below middle class. I hope they wake up and start treating everyone equally.
Fantastic experience: Been going here for years, absolutely love the place. Incredibly well kept facilities, pleasant staff, great range of classes, workout areas and equipment. 10/10.
Fantastic experience: Great facility for fitness and swimming and .... check the web site. Prices may seem high but are a very good value.
Fantastic experience: Great pricing for what it offers. Gym, swimming pool, basketball, badminton and much more.
Fantastic experience: An excellent facility with a very large range of amenities. I enjoyed my visit here and wish I had a similar facility here in Australia
Fantastic experience: I joined the Robert Lee YMCA a couple months ago for the pool, and I just love the place. The environment is great and the pool is kept clean and organized. Above all, the lifeguard staff are what make the place so special. They're all well-trained, supportive and friendly. I've never had such a good time getting in shape. Whatever they're getting paid, it's not enough. Many thanks to the lifeguards!
Fantastic experience: Amazing gym and very clean building. One huge request from management though. Please open at least one squash court. Not many places in the city have a squash court and its barely used by others for working out. Would be amazing if we can use it again like in 2019. Thank you :)
Positive experience: They need to start emailing Plus members when the hot tub is closed. Some of us travel long distances to this location and I wouldn’t if I knew none of the amenities are available. Of course the steam room has been closed an insanely long time and no financial concessions have been made to members despite not getting what we paid for.
Positive experience: I love this gym! For $28 dollars a month it is so accessible to so many in Vancouver. the facilities are pretty good! It’s lovely that spin classes are offered here, yoga classes and volleyball. My suggestions would be: the dance classes take up the large gymnasium and have very few people who attend, and the yoga classes are always FULLY booked… can those swap locations so more people can attend yoga? Also, there are so many gym times for basketball and 1 volleyball session a week that isn’t at 6am… would it be possible to create more time for volleyball because every Friday it is packed and you hardly get any playing time in! Thanks :)
Negative experience: Beware of this organization's membership cancellation money scam. Members wishing to cancel their membership, subsequent to placing it on hold in response to the suspension of available facility services, who are unable to resume visitation as a result of services still being unavailable 16 weeks later, will have to make 2 payments before their membership is canceled. One at the end of the hold period, and another 14 days later (1 day before the 15-day hold cancellation requirement is met). For Men's Plus members that amounts to over $100 for nothing.
Fantastic experience: I just joined this gym. Its actually super nice. Plenty of space, lots of machines. Great price given the space and amenities. Lockers also come with a key so u don't have to bring one. Quite a bit of weight sets so you don't have to wait on sets to be available.
Positive experience: Hours are too limited. It closes too early, especially on weekends. Pool hours are very limited. It is relatively expensive at around $80/month general membership for the hours it operates. Parking is very very limited and expensive and the city, while not the fault of the YMCA, continues to make it more so. It used to be much better in all these regards.
Fantastic experience: The best private volunteer service I found in Vancouver. Visited many of them. Al least the best under 30 years with programs and offers they have. Very thankful for them )
Negative experience: The Plus steam room has been closed for more than 3 yeqrs now and they are still charging the same amount? Like wthell?
Positive experience: Good gym but hardly anyone at the gym desk to help out. Seems understaffed, especially at peak hours. My review will change when they decide to actually have adequate staff during busy periods. Edit: seems like some more people are on the floor currently.
Negative experience: Signed up just over a week ago and was told there was no possible was to wave the $100 enrolment fee. Which is an obvious cash grab. Walk in today to find out there’s $0 enrolment fee and that there’s no way to credit my account. Super disappointed with this and you’ll be losing my membership. Thanks
Positive experience: Clean, well organized setup. Good free classes. Friendly staff. Nice pool and other facilities. Only con is that the swipe cards have no user-specific identification on them so if you lose your card and it gets returned, the card (probably) gets recycled and the you have to pay $5 for a new card.
Negative experience: Frequently closes or reduces operating hours. No fixed schedule and it changes from month to month. Some facilities close and never opens like steam room.
Negative experience: Front staff are very rude!!! men’s steam room close for maintenance until summer next year!
Fantastic experience: There is nothing comparable to this place in all of Canada. Many options for newcomers, their families and children. Here I do sports and I am reassured about my little one.
Fantastic experience: Great cheap place for workouts with a nice pool as well! 5 squat racks, 2 flat benches, a good amount of machines, and some dumbbells going up to 100lbs! Also has a pretty good cafe that has cheap protein snacks.
Positive experience: the cleaner Robert does Excellent work keeps the mens plus change room in top condition cons the steam room always out of order and parking down stairs is expensive and gym up stairs get way to packed to work out
Negative experience: This place has become a maintenance disaster. Members are locked out of their own lockers (sometimes left naked until the fire department is called), the men’s steam room has been closed 9 of the last 12 months, hot tubs are in and out of commission, water dispensers broken… it certainly makes one wonder about the safety of the gym equipment. For the price they’re charging, members deserve better.
Negative experience: Policies and procedures of this company are deplorable. The equivalent of a “unsubscribe” option on shady scam websites. Employees have a hard time following simple instructions. They charge whatever they want on your cc.
Negative experience: *Rudely waves hand directly in front of your face “How many sets you got left?”
Positive experience: Too crowded! And they still resist going to their pre-pandemic hours. All popular activities are over crowded and you don't get a chance to register. For instance, Volleyball and Badminton! I am looking into find available spots in Community Centres and will eventually drop my membership with YMCA...
Negative experience: DONT SUBSCRIBE TO THIS GYM. Their customer services sucks. I have sent a couple of emails to cancel my account but they have just ignored them and keep charging to my credit card. They are stealing my money and I have demanded a refund from them and I’m still waiting for it.
Positive experience: There's good and bad. I'll start with the bad. It's a gym that seems to have everything but not everything is working or is being used for what it's designed for. For instance, it's probably the only fitness gym downtown with a full-sized basketball court, but instead of it being used to play basketball it has an artificial wall in place that separates one half of the court from the other so those who do want to play basketball are cramped together using 3 baskets with minimal space. But interestingly that wall is removed when the gym gets used for badminton and/or vollyeball. Also none of the steam rooms are operational right now and haven't been for some time. The good. Has a lot of cardio machines, plenty of free weights and weight machines, yoga rooms for stretching, and even rooms for crossfit style exercise. They have a lot of classes available if that's your thing and a very nice, large swimming pool with a lengthy hot tub nearby. There's parking underneath for about $3.00 per 1.5 hours if you need to drive and a nice cafe with quick bites, coffee, and a variety of soft beverages for sale in the main lobby. They have what's known as a plus membership which basically just allows you access to a more exclusive locker room that currently has a non-functional sauna, an exclusive hot tub, nicer lockers, and towel service (although these aren't face towels for working out, just large towels for drying after a shower). Not quite worth the $50 plus every couple weeks in my opinion so I just go with the standard.
Negative experience: They don't care about any inquiry of email. I asked holding and cancellation but no response. My plan hasn't stopped yet lol
Fantastic experience: Shana helped us register as members en 5 minutes while still servicing everyone who was in line on a busy Sunday! Amazing!
Fantastic experience: I love the Y. Lots of great classes, excellent personal trainers, and modern equipment. The pool is fabulous and the locker rooms are always clean. 5 stars, 2 thumbs up, and no hesitation about recommending this place to all ages and genders.
Positive experience: The shower room is big and clean. Excellent location in downtown. For the pool, the width for medium and fast lane is too small that it is basically not possible to have more than one person to swim there, it is easy to hit the others who swim from the opposite direction. Quite a lot of swimming classes there which would take up the lanes. Counter staff looks tired, no smiling...will not recommend it if you are looking for swimming.
Fantastic experience: The facility has a great and very clean pool. It has a varying depth which makes it more versatile. The hot tub is a nice place to chill and chat with people. I found my best friend in the YMCA hot tub.
Fantastic experience: I always go swimming every Monday morning and both the lifeguards are always super nice to me. Everyone always has a smile on their face and it's a super welcoming environment. Last week, I even saw the lifeguards giving some swimming tips to a member. Nice to see such care and enthusiasm towards the members. The pool is nice and clean and not too busy in the late mornings.
Fantastic experience: Its really great place to workout and got good selection of workout + fitness class
Negative experience: Nice variety of equipment that is well maintained. Staff is also very friendly and helpful. I really enjoy my workout here and love the variety of cardio equipment. But... thing is now that covid is over, its turning back into a zoo gym. Getting busier and busier all day, every day - morning, noon, early afternoon, evening, no matter which time you go, there's no avoiding the crowds. Usually have to wait a while for equipment most times which is a bummer. It's too bad as I live near this place and it's really convenient. Also, good luck getting into any yoga classes. They release the time slots at midnight every night and get taken up within seconds. Even the waiting list gets taken up. For those that aren't up that late, it's a little unfair. Ultimately, I might look into a different gym if it gets busier than it is. Update: After giving this gym a fair chance and trying different hours (morning, late morning and mid day) you can never win with the crowds here. It's gotten so bad that you'll be lucky to be able to complete a full workout due to all the floor space, machines and racks being used up (with a line to get on each area). Even if your patient and wait your turn for a machine, people will hound you during your set making you feel rushed. Sure, its got good equipment but what's the point in having great equipment if you can never use it! The YMCA charges way too much for being a zoo gym and can't justify the cost. Will never understand how people give places like these good reviews. They really seem love paying high prices for waiting in lines in overcrowded places.
Positive experience: Staff is not the friendliest. Also why close early on Easter Monday if is in not an actual holiday
Negative experience: I learned about a very unhealthy dominant-submissive game that some kids forced mines to play in preschool. unfortunately yesterday I learnt that my daughter was bullied with a younger sibling of a girl that invented that game every single day. My son mentioned one day that older sister once forced him to crawl and follow her. Then she asked another girl to play the same game with my daughter and made her kitty too. The sad and shocking part is the head-instructor admitted that she was aware of all that happened there and she did not share with that tow siblings were bullying my more than a year in Coat Capital Savings preschool. She told me she had asked from my 4 years old daughter if she was ok with that game and she nodded.
Fantastic experience: This is a great YMCA-YWCA. The staff are friendly and helpful. The place is very clean and there are a lot of workout options. Good amount of free weights, machines and squat racks. I would definitely recommend. Keep in mind peak times, you will wait for equipment.
Negative experience: Cleaning staff and facility are awesome. Booking system is incredibly flawed, however. Classes go up at midnight once a week and then all the yoga classes are immediately sniped. Please go back to drop ins. The world is over Covid beaurocracy. Bring back the humanity to fitness, it should not be an app-based facet of life.
Fantastic experience: Hospitable staff, great prices, can't really ask for more. Other downtown gyms charge close to double. Highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: This is a great YMCA-YWCA. The staff are friendly and helpful. The place is very clean and there are a lot of workout options. Good amount of free weights, machines and squat racks. I would definitely recommend. Keep in mind peak times, you will wait for equipment.
Fantastic experience: Its like Equinox Gym, without the branding.
Positive experience: There is a basketball court that is used for everything but basketball. There is a dedicated time for sports other than basketball on a basketball courts, but no dedicated portion of time for basketball. Sometimes there are barely 5 people attending badminton and the whole court is taken for 5 individuals for hours when there are 20+ people who want to at least cool down by shooting some hoops. The open gym times do not make sense either as it is not considered that individuals work 9-5 jobs and cannot get to the facility between 10 am and 5 pm. The only time we (adults) get in the whole day for basketball is the last 45 min of the day, which is really not fair. I don’t know if this is an attempt to limit people in the gym but you guys might at least be honest about that. The hoop on the west (if I’m not mistaken) has been up this whole with the excuse that there are mirrors when those mirrors are retractable and can be changed to a solid wall. We need to have at least an explanation. Everything else is great. I just feel like some things are being neglected and that’s not fair.
Negative experience: It's an awesome fitness centre... but they paused memberships for some time because of Covid, and then started charging people again with no notification. I don't know if it's just bad management or just plain scam.
Fantastic experience: Great GYM, but it would be awesome if they add an area with punching bags and some martial arts classes like kickboxing or mma. I am pretty sure this would attract a lot of customer, no many gyms have this. This would be a great way to get in shape and connect with other members.
Negative experience: They silently started to charge for the membership, even though they suspended it themselves. They told me that I need to reactivate it to start using it, but they just silently started to charge me themselves. No notification, no email, no phone call.
Fantastic experience: Everyone should support this place! I have been a YMCA member for over 20 years, and this location for just over 8. It is amazing how wonderful this establishment will make you feel. Throughout the pandemic things were very hard, but it is so nice to see them reopening and adding back the services they previously had. Anytime someone mentions there "Steve Nash" or "Fit for less" or any other random gym, I always ask them... For $50... why would you not join the YMCA? Swimming, Basketball courts, steam room, Weights, classes... its all included! No need to try anything else, just stick to the Y! Amazing job Liaa and Team
Fantastic experience: Coming back to this gym after a few years away, thinking some other facility would compare. I was wrong. This is where to go to work out.
Fantastic experience: Very clean gym. I have been a member here for many years and never had one issue. There is a staff member from a cleaning company in the evenings who's specially great. The washrooms are always so clean, it is impressive for the volume of people. All staff is very helpful, friendly and they are doing a fantastic job managing the COVID phase. The gym can get busy at times (its because its good!) but you can always find something to do without feeling crowded. New facility and machines, spacious and great environment. Thank you YMCA staff, I appreciate you!
Hi Aline. Thank you very much for your kind words and feedback! It is very much appreciated and we are so glad to know that you feel safe at the Y.
Fantastic experience: I have always found the memberships with any YMCA to be the least fuss out of any gym in Canada. It’s simple to suspend, cancel or change payment info and I don’t mind paying a little premium for this service. When compared to other fitness facilities, it’s rare to find such ease of use compared to other gyms that operate under the guise strictly for profit and not for the good and wellbeing of others. While I didn’t end up going through with membership application I found the staff to be super kind and accommodating, they answered my online membership form promptly.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities, great staff and great machines. Also big spaces so you don't feel as threatened by COVID.
Fantastic experience: I worked here previously at the family development centre of this location. I absolutely loved working for the YMCA. The values and what it does for the community at large aside from having the gym. Staff are super friendly, and the amount of training and knowledge that goes into the staff is amazing. We felt like a family and welcomed here.
Fantastic experience: Positive: Communication Great location for YMCA! great staffs!
