Fantastic experience: 2-ish years going to this gym. Excellent location with parking. Not super busy or crowded. Members are respectful and friendly to one another. Owner is awesome. 24/hr access and a soon to be sauna + cold plunge are the cherry on top!

Fantastic experience: Best gym in the city, hands down. Great equipment, clean, open 24/7, and the owner goes above and beyond ensuring that everyone feels comfortable at the gym, and gets to know you on a personal level. None of the BS that comes with the big gyms, all at a great price.

Fantastic experience: Honestly best gym in the city. The friends you make here are real ones as they would say it. Fantastic experience: Been going to this gym since 2021, I have seen this gym constantly updating and bringing the best out of people. The owner Angelo always gives his 100 to all the members that come in, even the walk ins. It is a gym that feels homely among all that, it is a gym that also has no cancellation fees compared to other gyms. Angelo and his team constantly strive to make the gym better every day.

Fantastic experience: This St Boniface gym is a hidden gem ! The owner has a super friendly, the equipment is top-notch, and the atmosphere is welcoming and motivating. Clean facility with equipment for all ages and stages of fitness!! Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, you’ll feel right at home here. Highly recommend!

Negative experience: Great until I had to cancel I spent almost 2 years at this gym and was very fond of it. I recommend people and had only good things to say. Unfortunately, as life things happen, it was my time to go and I rushed to the gym when I had the time to cancel to give as much notice as I could. Unfortunately, my payment window was the 24th to the 24th and I came in on the 25th to cancel the next month. I thought I’d be given some grace as it had been the weekend and I came in on the Monday but “business is business” and because of the 30 day cancellation policy I was forced to pay for another month. Now, I realized that was on me but at least I can use the gym for that extra month right? Wrong. I was told to give my key fob back at the end of the month and that I was to no longer have access to the gym for the entire extra month I was going to have to pay for. I was told it says that in the contract but it doesn’t not read that way (very unclear vague wording). Giving a member access to the the gym in that scenario costs the gym no extra money (unless you shower I guess) and leaves the costumer feeling like they got some value out of their money and still wanting to come back. The way that the situation was handled after breaking the news that I was leaving was very unfortunate and left me never wanting to go again. I would have been much happier if while I was canceling he was like “listen, you’re going to have to pay again anyway so to make more bang for your buck come back and cancel on ___ day” instead of being like “ooo this really sucks for you because you have to pay another bill”. So yeah, make sure you don’t miss the 30 days and save yourself because it was not made clear to me ever that I would loose my access along with the money. I was pretty much told “sucks to suck, other gyms are worse”. It’s not a competition
As expected. But Sweat Equity Fitness' policies must be upheld. Policies of which were fully explained, provided and consented to by all members. Not only at their time of joining verbally, but also in written form through the membership agreement all members sign (as you did), along with repeated reminders and thorough explanations over the years through mass emails. So although I am disappointed that you are frustrated enough to leave a poor review (especially considering I believed us to have quite a positive personal relationship) you were held to no higher standard than any member before or after you will be held to. In the future should you join other gyms and experience their operating policies I hope you reflect upon your time here, recognize the truth of the situation and reconsider the star rating you left us. Thank you. <-professional response Also, solely because the details of this as you provide them are so laughable I have to refute a few in particular. 1) you were not instructed to hand in your key at the end of the month, everyone from the day they cancel does 30 days from that day. So you were instructed to return your key towards the end of the following month. In fact, I even offered you an additional 2 weeks on top of that despite being under no obligation to do so. 2) As any member can initiate a cancellation at any time, technically you could have come in any day before your billing date, literally 29 days. You showed up 2 days afterwards, 3 minutes to close, demanding I waive policy, and I refused as it's simply not fair to other members for each and every person will have a reason why they deserve to be above the policy and it's not right if I begin picking and choosing who the policies apply to. 3) The conversation that you say you prefer to have had, actually did happen, verbatim. You were offered the option to cancel on a day closer to your next billing date to provide further value but you refused. The only comment that was made about you 'not receiving maximum value' was in regards to you coming two days after your billing date, therefore being charged again towards the end of your 30 days, and it was provided so it could be accompanied by a reminder that you paid zero administration, enhancement, enrollment or cancellation fees therefore even with the final charge, leaving you 'up' a significant amount. Something that is actually quite substantial and usually unheard of in the fitness industry. If you don't believe me, consider why gyms offer sales where the 'fees' are waived? Aka our membership, is their sale price all year long. And finally 4) as the membership agreement is a professional contract, it therefore uses professional jargon, but I am always available for further explanation and insight as everyone knows and has been proven repeatedly. <- the cross examination I'm sorry you felt upset enough to leave your first google review ever, but the true fact of the matter is this. You lack a tremendous amount of personal accountability. You procrastinated for an entire 29 days of which you could have cancelled before your next billing date (so you didn't rush over), came in two days afterward and tried to bully me into waiving my policy, and when I refused, you got upset. You then aggressively came at me over instagram hoping to insult and strongarm your way into your desired outcome and when refuted, you've resigned yourself to leaving a poor google review. Fair enough, and I am confident you feel it was 'well played' but despite what you suspect, I am choosing to believe all this review will demonstrate is that I run a fair facility where all members are treated equally and upheld to the same standard regardless of any personal relationships I may have. Fantastic experience: To the person who posted about the washroom, the cleaning supplies are contained neatly in an area, of the change room. I have never been at the facility when its unacceptable for cleanliness. I find staff quite diligent containing even an outside shoe into the workout area! It's a washroom. Feel free to take a wander through the other gyms where "deodorant" is not a mandatory "wear". This place is second to NONE when it comes to gyms in the city. A really well kept secret IMO. If you're looking for a place to exercise, with newer equipment, a super friendly owner, great people who don't monopolize machines while texting 20 mins between sets and a slight inconvenience IF you must go downstairs for a full sized locker( are you packing for a vacation that you require that much space?) consider that your warmup. If you cant walk 3 flights of stairs perhaps more cardio is in your future. The next great reason to workout there is the 24 hour access and a sign that says shut the lights when you're done. Support local, this place is one you'll never want to leave! Thanks for the encouragement upon entering and a first bump when leaving. Best gym to get it done!
Well, won’t this come across as if I left it myself . Perhaps it’s from my inner equivalent of ‘Tyler Durden’ which ironically enough, people are always asking me if I know…(which is a reference from 1999) Thank you for the review Walt, it is much appreciated. Fantastic experience: As badly as I want to gate-keep this wonderful, beautiful, clean & quiet gym… I think everyone deserves to experience this great place. I am so glad I found this hidden gem. The owner is as friendly as they come, whether you’re coming or going, Angelo always has a smile on his face and there to say “good job buddy!” Just because this is a smaller gym, don’t you worry, it has every machine you need. And if you’re feeling abit sore after your workout, go see Carly upstairs for a massage. also, if I didn’t convince you enough, soon you will also be able to take a cold bath or sit in a warm sauna… but.. keep this place a secret; okay?

Negative experience: Small gym, has all the equipment you need. Upstairs bathroom was always dirty and is used as a storage room (mop pails, random stuff haphazardly thrown about), which always had a funky smell. Lockers upstairs were also tiny and could maybe fit a medium sized backpack and not much else. Needs to do a better job on overall facility cleanliness. There are more lockers down 3 floors in the basement but is rarely ever used by patrons.
Hello Kristina, it seems after 6 weeks you have updated your review reducing it from 3 stars to 2 stars. As I mentioned in my original response, we acknowledge that the medium-large lockers are indeed in the basement near the changeroom facilities to accomodate both gyms inside the building. We also acknowledge that occassionally, as the bathroom caters to so many, it will have an occassional smell. But in regards to the overall facility's cleanliness, aside from the common area floor (which in winter is objectively difficult to keep clean), I have supreme confidence in the cleanliness of the gym itself. I truly with all sincerity, with every morsel of my being couldn't be more confident in it. If you would be willing to reach out to us direct, we would love the opportunity to receive your insight as to what specifically we can do to improve, or rather what we haven't done that cost us yet another star. Fantastic experience: This Gym by far beats any commercial Gym in this city. The Gym environment makes my day everyday that I go. I've been going to SEF for about 4 years on and off and I've had nothing but great things to say about the gym and the owner Angelo (total hunk btw) I recommend this gym to anyone who wants to take fitness seriously or not so seriously. The equipment is kept clean and you rarely have to re arrange your workouts due to waiting for equipment. Five star rating is being modest!

Fantastic experience: Great gym! Has everything you need for a good workout while simultaneously being available 24 hours a day for members at a very competitive price. I also hear they’re making a new spa area which has a sauna and two cold tubs. I recommend everyone come and check it out.

Fantastic experience: Just love going here! This gym was small enough to create a comfortable environment for me to start my gym journey and the owner was always the kindest! Fantastic experience: I love this gym. The owner is always very nice and approachable. I have all the machines and material I need for cardio, weights and stretching. Everyone is always willing to help if I have a question. I really like this gym because it's smaller than some others, less intimidating and also very affordable. I'd recommend to anyone looking for a new place to exercise and take their health seriously.

Fantastic experience: No, you're not dreaming, the perfect 5 star-rating isn't a glitch. This truly is a beautiful establishment helmed by a wonderfully friendly man who makes beginners and experienced folk feel right at home. They've managed to perfectly curate the machine selection so as to avoid any unnecessary equipment. The fellow gym-goers are friendly, and never make me feel uncomfortable. As someone who had never really stepped in a gym before this year, Sweat Equity ended up being the complete opposite of what I was dreading about going to the gym. It's affordable, clean, welcoming, and I can't wait to go back tomorrow.

Fantastic experience: As someone who’s had the chance to experience most of the big name athletic/fitness facilities. I can confidently say that there is no other place like SEF! As opposed to other memberships I never feel like I’m just a “number in the system or a payment waiting to be made”. From day 1 the experience has been nothing but amazing. From being addressed by my first name to being able to talk to Angelo about anything and everything, I can truly say I always feel welcomed and at home. It’s a wonderful facility, equipped with everything you can think of. The respect and love shown by members & staff is always reciprocated and that’s all there is to it.

Fantastic experience: The BEST locally owned gym in the east side of the city! I started at this gym a few years ago but then moved away for awhile and I’m finally back. Said it then and still holds up now - a welcoming environment, well taken care of, and the ownes, Angelo, is such a great guy. Great variety of equipment ensuring there's something for everyone. The clean and well-maintained gym create a comfortable atmosphere for working out. This is one of the many reasons I prefer supporting independently owned gyms—they truly care about their members. I had accidentally left my car keys behind as I was leaving. It was 12:30 in the morning, and I decided to take a chance and message Angelo on Instagram. To my amazement, he responded almost immediately and even came down to open the door for me. That level of dedication and customer service is something you just don’t find anywhere else! Aside from the top-notch service, the gym itself is fantastic. The equipment is well-maintained, the space is always clean, and the atmosphere is welcoming and motivating. Fantastic experience: Hands down, best choice I’ve made training at Sweat Equity. I train here about 4-5 times a week. Amazing facility, top equipment and great environment. Everyone, from amateur athletes to professionals, can workout in this spotlessly clean and cozy gym. There is no membership cost; you pay monthly. Angelo (owner) will be available between 12-6 pm seven days a week to welcome you with a smile :)

Fantastic experience: This is my favourite gym. Excellent equipment, very well maintained, clean and bright. The equipment is always clean and in good working order. The owner runs a friendly and safe facility. It’s a really good size neighbourhood gym with athletes from multi-sports training together. If your 18 yrs old, you’ll fit in, If your 50 yrs old fit in. If your a high level athlete it’s awesome, if your a beginner this gym is not intimidating. The facility has a large parking lot that is well lit and safe to park your vehicle at. The gym has it all, filtered water on site, and 24 hr fob access. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: Found my new home! The owner is fantastic and has an awsome attitude, willing to work with me and my old school ways. Nice equipment, full range of machines and free weights available. The couple people I've met are super friendly and feels like a little family. Cant wait to get the grind on again!

Fantastic experience: I've been coming to Sweat Equity for around 4 months. I was looking for a spot on my way to and from work and this was it. Sweat Equity has everything you need, from cardio machines, free weights, music showers and more. Angelo is always a friendly face with an encouraging greeting. Love this place.

Fantastic experience: i have been going to this gym for about a year now, i have been to a lot of gyms in this city and nothing compares to SEF. The environment is next level, everyone is so friendly and Angelo has made this place feel like a second home. It’s a safe place to get a workout in without any judgement everyone is so supportive and will definitely hype you up to hit your PR’s. If you’re looking for a gym that’s affordable, has 24h access, and the best atmosphere you can ask for i highly recommend checking out SEF.

Fantastic experience: This gym had everything I was looking for. I’ve been going for about two months now and I genuinely look forward to each visit. It has a community feel to it. People hang out afterwards to catch up. The pricing is extremely fair (better than the chains) and the owner is inclusive, gregarious and kind. As a (somewhat shy) 5’3” lady I’ve been a bit intimidated in some of the spaces I’ve had memberships in. This isn’t one of those places. If you’re looking for a gym, give this one a try.

Fantastic experience: I joined a couple months ago. Great quality machines, and weights. The cardio equipment is amazing too. Friendly atmosphere no meatheads. Love the 24 hour access. It's very clean and well kept. The walls are surrounded by awesome art that motives you. Love the mural. If I didn't move out of town, I'd be a lifer. My only regret was not signing up sooner!

Fantastic experience: Love this gym! Feels like a family, Angelo the owner is so kind, helpful, and welcoming. It’s a smaller gym but more than enough space. I almost never have had to wait for a machine (and I come during peak times everyday). Never feels crowded, great selection of weights, machines, workout tools, so many cardio equipment options. Very fair pricing and I love that there is no hidden fees like all the commercially owned gyms have! Would recommend to everyone!

Fantastic experience: Definitely one of the best gyms I have been to. I’ve done all the commercial large scale gyms and you can definitely see the difference when the owner really cares about the space. Angelo is a one man show, he works extremely hard to ensure the space is as clean as possible and he’s a great listener. He hears what his members need and does everything he can to accommodate. Not only is Angelo and gym itself great, the members who come and work out are just as awesome. Everyone is friendly and encouraging which makes for a great space to hit PRs. On top of that, he doesn’t have any hidden fees [very transparent] and it’s open 24/7 [with key fob access]!
Okay, okay. Fine. You can have access to the bookshelf Tris...(I banned Tris from touching the walls after her and her accomplice knocked my custom made Cobra Kai sign off the wall). Fantastic experience: My partner and I have been going to this gym for a few months now and this is by far the best gym we've ever been too! Angelo is such a great guy who loves and breathes this gym, and is a very easygoing person to talk to and treats his members like community! He doesn't implement any additional fees to the membership which is very convenient and is something most gyms unfortunately do. Although I've only been here for a short time, some of the best workouts I've had are from this gym, with the atmosphere making you feel motivated and tough. The equipment is very well maintained and taken care of, and the gym is super clean as well. If I could, I would give this place more than 5 stars.

Fantastic experience: If you don't like the big franchise gyms in the city this is the place for you. Great people great owner and great value. I have done the big gyms before and I got tired of paying big money for a place that everytime I walked in something else was not working. Or you had a group of meat heads that thought they owned the free weights. Sweat equity is so much better. And you get to know the people you are working out with and that makes everything more enjoyable. Highly recommend to everyone.

Fantastic experience: Angelo is the best at creating a positive, fun and welcoming atmosphere. I'm new to working out and have never felt intimidated or nervous about going to SEF because that's not the tone being set. The equipment is brand new and well maintained.
