The facility boasts a generous array of workout equipment and a clean pool area.

- Great customer service with friendly staff willing to assist
- Variety of sports programs for children, such as swimming and climbing
- Bright and clean workout spaces with ample sunlight

- Reduced operating hours, closing at 1:30 PM on weekends
- Outdated facilities and equipment
- Occasional issues with staff being unempathetic or not addressing concerns appropriately
- Inconsistent rule enforcement
Despite these challenges, many members continue to enjoy their experiences at Melcor YMCA, valuing it as a welcoming environment for fitness and community engagement.
Melcor YMCA at Crowfoot: Opinions
Negative experience: I’ve been a member of the YMCA for almost three years, and today I had a deeply disappointing experience. I was stopped by staff for wearing jeans—a rule I was completely unaware of because it was never communicated to me. For three years, nobody mentioned this, and the rule was never enforced, yet today I was abruptly told to "look at the sign upstairs." What made the situation even more frustrating was that the manager admitted the staff failed to communicate this rule to me previously. Despite this acknowledgment, I was still made to feel embarrassed and unwelcome. I wasn’t even using any equipment or doing heavy workouts—just walking—yet I was treated as if I had intentionally violated the policy. This inconsistent enforcement and lack of upfront communication left me feeling unfairly singled out. After three years of loyal membership, I expected respect and clear communication, not to be stopped in this way. This experience has made me seriously question the professionalism and inclusivity of this Crowfoot YMCA location. Very disappointing and unacceptable.
Fantastic experience: For increasing your mobility
Negative experience: For the amount they charge for memberships, they should really have later hours. Closing at 9pm when I'm paying 85+ a month is insanity
Fantastic experience: I love my gym! I've been a member on and off for 20 years, and it truly feels like my second home—”where everybody knows your name.” The drop-in classes are such a fantastic motivator! I just wish there were even more morning Zumba and power fit classes to get my day started with a bang!
Positive experience: Great service and programs. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that I wish they had more spaces/gyms to offer more variety.
Fantastic experience: Great place to work out
Negative experience: The old man working at the front desk could have been more empathetic. He wasn’t friendly at all and seemed like he either hated his job or woke up in a bad mood. There was a little boy trying to get inside to meet his mom and little sister, and even though the boy was pointing to the glass in the swimming pool area, trying to show his mom waving, the old man bombarded him with at least eight consecutive questions, completely ignoring the boy’s attempts to communicate. I stepped in and explained that the boy was just trying to meet his mom, who was asking him to meet her at the locker room. Despite my friendly attempt to help, the old man just looked at me with the same disgusted expression without saying a word. The boy seemed shy, perhaps a newcomer or someone with a speech impediment. Meanwhile, the two younger staff members next to the old man were too distracted by social media on their computers and didn’t seem to care about how rude the old man was to the innocent boy.
Fantastic experience: " David " at Front Reception is a great guy. Went there with few questions. He answered all my queries very promptly. 5 stars for his Customer service. Highly recommend!
Positive experience: Went here for the swimming lessons for kids. The facility seems quite dated exteriorly and while the inside doesn't seem any different, somehow everything seems to work well and as expected. The pools are also more fit for purpose with dedicated shallow kids pools and another with the right depth just about right for any age group. Reception staff/volunteers are typically very warm and cordial also
Positive experience: Amazing sports facility with plenty to offer and do. Only wish that they can reopen child minding and keep the facility open till 10pm just like pre covid.
Positive experience: As a regular gym goer in the mornings it's totally fine for me. If I had a movement disability it might be difficult as there are lots of stairs and sometimes the elevator is out of order. The pool layout is a bit strange (have to walk down slippery stairs to reach the pool if you're a guy) but it does the job and does it well. Nothing too fancy, but it's a decent place and has been my go-to for the past month (because of location).
Fantastic experience: The best gym and training facility- ever!
Positive experience: There is this one tall blonde kid whose obsessed with soccer and doesn’t workout just plays brawl-stars. Very disturbing!
Fantastic experience: Very good GYM and a very comfortable location, considering that I live nearby
Positive experience: A bit rundown and out of date facility but a good place to take kids for basic swimming lessons. There's an adjustable depth pool for the littles and a lap pool when they move up. The family change room is tiny and always has a lineup after lessons so hopefully your gender matches that of your child or getting home from lessons will take an extra 30 minutes.
Positive experience: Pretty good gym, if you go anytime after 4 it's full of teenagers ego lifting but that's most gyms that allow teens
Positive experience: The showers and change rooms are a major issue here.
Fantastic experience: Took the kids to the climbing wall. It books up fast but is tons of fun
Fantastic experience: Nice place for the community. All the staff here are so kind and friendly.
Fantastic experience: Friendly environment and staff. Definitely recommend.
Fantastic experience: Great facility for pool and workout gym. Not too large but very clean and comfortable. Great big windows upstairs for sunlight while you workout!
Negative experience: The gym itself, is pretty good, its all you need, it’s great for students, being right next to a high-school, its got a pool, a basketball court, a weight floor, if you pay extra you get access to a sauna and a hot tub, and the weight floor is nothing to write home about but it’s definitely enough. the thing is, their little slogan “give so no one is turned away” (going off memory,) is very misleading. they have an EXTREMELY strict dress code which is almost never advertised. (I say almost out of generosity, im in there, a ridiculous amount of time, like 3-6 hours a day 4-6 days a week, im very confident i could write you an entire map of the gym from memory, but i genuinely cannot remember where they advertise it), where, you literally cannot wear anything, but shorts or sweatpants, because anything else will “damage the leather of the benches”, and will kick you out without any type of warning. and, some of the staff, are genuinely just rude and overbearing about it. also, if they catch you without a clip on a barbell they will not waste a SECOND before telling you to put it on, literally, they’ll do it when you’re reracking.
Negative experience: Nice gym minus the Nazis they have stalking the weight room floor over collars, etiquette that only exists here etc. What's the theory with that, to employ these clowns to ruin the location experience? Maybe they're supposed to be "trainers"? If your goal is to get in shape I wouldn't trust these people, you'll end up paying good money for a sub par conversation and no actual workout or experience. I wouldn't trust these people to train my goldfish to swim. Go to another ymca
Negative experience: Small gym. Rude, disrespectful and entitled staff members. I have had problems with the staff about using chalk while deadlifting and about bringing my pump over into to this because “makes it look like a laundry mat”. The staff that I went to complain about was the manager and told me to shut up and listen to the garbage that was spewing out of his mouth about not being able to have my pump cover by my bench while working out.
Fantastic experience: I really like how sunny the weight floor and the pool are. It's a smaller facility, but it has what I needed
Fantastic experience: It's wonderful. Very comfortable, large and clean
Positive experience: It's great to be there after a while because of water restrictions
Positive experience: Decent gym, hot tub and pool is extra, 2 drop ins is about 28 bucks *without* pool / hot tub. 3 stars for cost (2.5 more appropriate) 3.4 stars for gym (no chalk) and upstairs deadlifting area (never great) also no clean and press Obv because gym is on 2nd floor. Otherwise pretty nice for a fluff gym
Fantastic experience: Great venue for children swim instruction
Negative experience: I don't like the fact that there is no hot tub access or steam room for basic membership.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful place, amazing staff. Very clean and well maintained changing rooms and facilities
Fantastic experience: Great facility with very friendly staff!
Negative experience: Somebody unlocked my lock and stole my credit card while I was swimming. Lost $750. Careful guys
Positive experience: Old style building. Need some renovation. Only 2 Pools are there. 1 big and 1 small. Which stay close when classes are going on. Locker room need some renovation too, loockers old too. I only used main level not sure about upper ones
Negative experience: Every Sunday it is very disappointing that swimming lessons are more important than swim lanes. There are no notices on ymca app at all. Last week was horrible since I had to ask two times for stairs to be put in and stairs taken away from pool too quickly. Today was even terrible, no stairs put in and also people take too long in universal showers. Best to have on crowfoot ymca that on Sundays better go somewhere else since swimming lessons are all day long and they do not accommodate people like me who have a disability. I wasted 10 minutes by not having stairs in pool and asking any lifeguard to help. It is frustrating every Sunday that I have to ask when i have a disability and cannot jump into the pool. I wish i could give zero stars to this place.
Fantastic experience: Love it. I have wonderful experience enjoying gym exercise swimming pool Customer service is very kind and helpful
Fantastic experience: Instructors have good rapport with kids !
Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff and clean locker rooms. Work out area has lots of equipment and have taken our 8M old swimming at the pool - she loves it! Pool area is clean. Swimming pool staff (life guards) are always so kind and helpful. Great facility with lots of activity options. Would recommend!
Positive experience: Facility is a bit dated, but a gym is a gym.
Negative experience: No hot tub or steam room either, unless you pay for the premium service. Gym isn't that great either with very few amenities . I get its an older facility, but it needs a major upgrade.
Fantastic experience: Great YMCA, pretty crowded most of the time but it’s manageable
Positive experience: Where I get my reps in. Find your perfect time though because it does get busy. When it's busy it's hard to get the more popular machines.
Fantastic experience: Good gym like to work out and feel good about myself feel beautiful and better about myself
Fantastic experience: Good facility. Bit older and smaller than others in Calgary but it has a pool, courts, track, and a nice selection of weights and machines.
Negative experience: I had very bad experience using the main pool with my 8 years old boy. We checked in and went into the pool and were asked to leave because they said 2 lanes were occupied with lessons, even though there are another 2 lanes open for swim. I dont understand why as everyone is paying for membership fees but not given priority or room to use the facility.
Fantastic experience: My kids love this place, we spend every weekend here, and membership is getting pretty expensive.
Positive experience: This is for all the YMCA. Just sell the damn card with a month on it without having to take down everyone's credit card. I'm sick of having to dish out my credit card info to weak databases. Facility is nice. Staff is sweet. I'll sue if my identity is taken over a month membership.
Fantastic experience: Not very big YMCA like Rockyridge, but it has everything, and the staff members are the best.
Fantastic experience: Just love going there and seeing everyone serious about their fitness level.
Negative experience: Standard of aquatics has been degraded. There is communication gap between instructors and parents. Instructors don’t communicate during parent week and later give results, furthermore report card system is very bad. It does not link to your membership. So when you are enrolling your kids you do not have full data for their progress on membership website. I’m really disappointed and pulling my kid from aquatic program. However their aquatic manger is very helpful and helped me with refund
Negative experience: This place needs a makeover! Small and shallow pool with dirty water that is way too warm, which is very exhausting when you’re doing a proper swim. Dingy locker room and slippery stairs leading down to the pool area from the men’s locker room. I was quite surprised to see such an outdated gym with such a bad layout in a neighborhood like this.
Negative experience: I’m usually not the person that usually writes reviews but I Just wanted to write a review subjecting how… the elevator has been “out of order” for the past 2 months I have been coming here as I come here every 2nd day if not more. As a person with a disability having a hard time with stairs… it’s so uncomfortable and inconvenient… I can’t imagine how people that actually can’t walk up the stairs such as people in wheel chairs…. Like come on…
Fantastic experience: Great customer service from Josh! Thank you so much for the warm welcoming as a first time guest. Keep it up YMCA! Susan was a volunteer in the gym and was fantastic! Great experience overall would highly recommend.
Positive experience: Small, but easy to find your way around.
Positive experience: I am often at this YMCA to work out because it is so convenient, I go to the gym and the pool but I’m mostly at the pool, there is always this one lifeguard who always makes my experience there so much better, he is friendly to everyone who walks in and always makes a point to say hi anytime someone walks into the pool and bye when they leave, it always just makes the experience there so much better.
Positive experience: Smells like a pool all the time, Leg Extension machine has been broken for 1 month now and the changing room lockers are rotting.
Negative experience: Pool is just too boring and one of the life guards are rude
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff. Always greeted with a smile and helpful when I lost an item.
Positive experience: The male life guard needs to relax. My husband and I have had our own seperate experiences where he is yelling at kids or being rude to parents. So other than that the facility is great. Please do some interpersonal training.
Fantastic experience: Like swimming at this Y. The gym is good but just don't use it as much as the pool.
Positive experience: They may be an older Y but less busy than the the newer one built at rocky ridge. And their staff are always friendly and helpful. I just wish they wouldn't keep the pool so warm .
Fantastic experience: Very clean facility. Staff are friendly and outgoing.
Fantastic experience: great gym, good people, well maintained, employees are great, Chase and Neo both helped me lots
Positive experience: Older equipment. Little cramped in the weight room, but it has a ton of light, a running track, access to a pool and classes for a lower than average membership price. Also, they have child minding which is huge for young parents or mothers looking to get fit during matt leave. Overall, this gym needs an update and probably needs to be organized a bit better. But we are really happy with the crowd and the vibes there.
Positive experience: This location is very close to us which is a bonus. People can complain about anything. I find the staff, volunteers and members to be generally kind and likeable. Our kids are enjoying the swimming lessons. I like the gym. Yes there are gyms that are more fancy but this facility has what most people need. With the membership one can always try another Y location.
Positive experience: Overall not bad, but this is the first gym I have ever been to when mid run I’ve been asked to move machines so they could clean the treadmills periodically when there was 8 others they could’ve cleaned first…. I also don’t appreciate being stared at until I take my headphones out to respond when I am clearly running..
Positive experience: Great local gym with not much people. But I wish it could open till 10 like how it used to and bring child minding back.
Positive experience: Everything was great about the place except the gym was very small and the water there was very nasty. Everything else like the slides the diving board and the waves was very nice. Would be going back if they cleaned the water
Fantastic experience: Very great place, there's a pool, a basketball court and on the other side there's a hockey rink
Positive experience: Nice location close to neighborhood. Mostly use the rink which is nice. Lots of parking
Fantastic experience: Love this place. The gym has everything I need for my knee recovery.
Positive experience: Too small compare to new ymca location. The family washroom on ly have one shower and 3 change rooms.
Negative experience: The only upside is that this location is convenient (near a train station and plenty of neighbourhoods). However, the hours are horrendous so one can barely make use of this facility unless you are an independent 3 year old or a loafer that is always up at all hours of the day and doesn’t have anything on their plate. Staffing shortages shouldn’t have affected this YMCA as it’s located in a vital area in the suburbs. Honestly, closing at 1:30 pm on the weekends is baffling. Furthermore, the facility is run-down and falling apart. Classes are always cancelled, the changing rooms are filthy and the equipment (sinks, showers, swimsuit dryers etc.) always out of order. The atmosphere is also quite dour, with 1-2 harried staff members working throughout the day only. Although stretched with tasks to do, they seem to only hang around the check-in desk and have the audacity to question the few-remaining clients on their accounts.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful pool and a great location! It's been yrs since I've been swimming and it feels so good to be back in the pool. 7:30am is a great time to swim..the pool is almost empty! Had a lane to myself!! Very clean.
Fantastic experience: Awesome fun but dirty...around the change rooms and the kiddy park
Positive experience: The strength and conditioning area was not the best quality, kind of inconvenient for timing too (closing at 1:30 pm on weekends is odd). Other than that, the space is nice, has a good gymnasium and pool too
Fantastic experience: Bright & High Energy atmosphere! Conveniently located adjacent communities within walking, rollerblading, or bicycling distance. Happy customer since `97, when in adolescence, a 20 minute bike ride from Edgemont was a convenient way to warm up before daily workouts. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly, the pool is salt water and open for public swim, and the members plus area features steam shower plus toiletries such as cream, deodorant, and hair gel. Less intimidating atmosphere compared to other NW Calgary gyms. There are always personable personal trainers on staff that are available free of charge to answer questions about your fitness goals, equipment, or technique. Personal favorite features of the gym is the running lanes that encompass the workout machine weights area. Two thumbs up!
Fantastic experience: We like this location of YMCA, this one is smaller than other locations, but still there is gym, hoops and 2 pools - one for adults and another one for kids. Staff is really friendly, my kids enjoy it being here, and me too :). And yes, it's clean and neat here. One more update: for those with hypersensitivity to noise/loud music etc. this place is better than Shane Homes YMCA, because it's way quieter here.
Fantastic experience: Great staff and good facilities
Fantastic experience: Memories were made. U will be remembered ALWAYS
Fantastic experience: Smaller facility but friendly staff, nice community of gym-goers. Gets busy at lunch time as students from Thirsk will go and work out. Classes are great but the weight lifting ones fill up quickly.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and a healthy social atmosphere. Good facilities, training programs, instructors and an overall active and pleasant experience. Keep up the great work.
Negative experience: Worst gym you could possibly ever go to the worst manager works there put me at fault for a problem that happened when the other person was the one at fault and saying how they’re gonna banned my membership when I was telling them I want to cancel it they’re the most stupidest staff ever
Negative experience: What the heck is going on with the hours here??? Open til 7:30 during the week, and 1PM ON WEEKENDS IS UNACCEPTABLE... You guys really need to do something about these hours.
Fantastic experience: Super cool place with all sorts of stuff going on
Negative experience: I'm not sure if it was like this before, but the gym closes on 1:30 on weekends??? That doesn't make too much sense to me because wouldn't most people come on the weekends when they have time? Makes it really hard to find time to workout.
Negative experience: Closing at 7:30 is unacceptable. I can only work out in the evenings, so this forces me to go to Rocky Ridge, which is so busy during the later evening that you spend more time standing around waiting for a bench or machine to free up than you do exercising, making it difficult to maintain an elevated heart rate for the duration of a workout.
Fantastic experience: This YMCA doesn't have all the facilities of the bigger ones but the staff stands out among the rest of the locations. I have had an excelent experience here bringing my son
Negative experience: REDUCED HOURS Used to be a member, pre-Covid. Really enjoyed the gym for badminton, pool, running track and weights. However, they reduced their hours, closing at 7:30p.m weeknights, and 1:30p.m on weekends! I could understand during Covid restrictions, but now that things are opening up, you are expected to pay full membership for reduced hours?? Doubtful I'll return until hours change
Fantastic experience: Good gym, nice staff, no complaints.
Fantastic experience: Good gym, nice staff, no complaints.
Negative experience: Some volunteer singled me out about not waring a mask, when no one lifting weights was wearing a mask. I hope he doesn't get to volunteer at that location anymore
Positive experience: Older facility. But the staff is friendly and they keep it pretty clean. Gym had some newer equipment and the options are decent. Having the plus service for the hot tub and steam room is a nice option. Just wish it had a sauna.
Positive experience: For sure older that Royal Oak YMCA however very convenient for us, close to our place and also less buy than before so we like here.
Fantastic experience: Amazing and great place for recreation, sports, and relaxation. My kids enjoyed the time they spent here and are looking forwards to another exciting time. Volleyball , Basketball , hockey , swimming ♂️, soccer ⚽️, badminton , climbing, and gymnasium ️♀️. They have lots of parking spaces, toilets and seating areas.
Positive experience: Good gym ok service and exceptional training, the gym had a running course, bikes and many weight lifting activities not to mention 5$ a workout is a stellar fee, would be five stars, but I got a tiny bit more than what I payed for. Overall would recomend
Fantastic experience: Kids love their skating lessons...great teachers
Fantastic experience: This place is my local YMCA. A newer one opened up a few communities over. Making this one less crowded and even better. I use both and the staff are great. Classes are well run and organized.
Fantastic experience: Very good customer service. Staff are informative and helpful.
Fantastic experience: All staff and volunteers are superbly friendly and courteous
