Negative experience: We signed a contract with this company, but sadly we were told LIES. My wife and I specifically requested to be able to cancel after 6 monts, and the person at the desk at the moment told us canceling wouldn't be an issue at any time nor it would have a cancelation fee, recently we tried to cancel the contract recenonly to be told completely the contrary. It's signed now, so we have to pay whatever it says. Yet the person at the desk at the moment can just completely tell you the opposite to make you feel like this is a reliable and serious company. We'll pay because we have to, but this is a pretty sad practice nevertheless.
Sorry to hear that your experience with Shapes was less than positive. We have been in contact with yourself and your wife and did show you the membership agreements that you did sign for. Shapes has many options availalbe including short term, month to month and the annual agreement to which your wife enrolled on at the point of sale. All membership agreements had 7 days to make any changes, modifications or cancellations to your membership agreement. Managment has been in touch with options availalbe to your wife, and at this time, none of those options have satisfied your needs. According to social media, you are requesting another email from managment with those options which has been sent to you for your review.
Negative experience: If I could give a 0 stars I would. What kind of Cooperation does have a 7 days cancellation day otherwise you will stay with them for a year. What if the gym is old and very stinky. Main issue is the fact that you can not cancel the membership. We got no right once you sign their contract. Highly recommend to go to other gym in wpg.

Similart to all fitness clubs in the city, there is a 7 day period to change, modify or cancel your membership agreement. Negative experience: I emailed them twice now to get more info about personal trainers etc and I never got a reply. If this is any indication on how they treat there clients, I will get a membership @ Planet Fitness, it's cheaper and they replied to my inquiry immediately. Waste of time!

Negative experience: This gym is very nice neat and clean I like to workout here but your membership policy is very bad if someone emergency to leave membership he can’t he has to pay whole year this is not good policy you should change it if someone wanna leave just take your gym membership fees and closed his account that’s all but other method for one year policy is very bad

Negative experience: Terrible customer service… gives everyone different rates for membership pricing even if you have a corporate rate. Tells people they can cancel, then after they sign up, they go back and tell them they can’t cancel any longer. Doesn’t care when you explain to them what happened. I am disgusted at the customer service of this place. Only good thing are the classes they have.

Those are determined through our Corporate Health and Wellness Director and the Welness committee from various establishments. Those rates very depending on the rate that is established at the point of enrollment. Fantastic experience: I’ve been going to shapes now for years! (Even worked there) and it’s been by far my absolute favourite gym especially the Narin location, and over the last year we started the child care service at Narin and Saba has been the ABSOLUTE BEST daycare lady I’ve ever had, she has loved, nurtured, and cared for my baby girl almost as best as I could, we are SO thankful for her and she’s the main reason why I can enjoy working out and being a mom at the same time, I adore this woman and she deserves the world, we are so grateful for her and shapes should be too! She makes it all happen and having someone you can trust with your children is a must! She is the BEST !!!! 10/10 best service ! I hope she never goes anywhere! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Negative experience: I tried canceling my membership when my contract expired (March 14) and the front desk told me I have to wait till May 10 in order for me to cancel my membership. I was also told that I can cancel my membership on that day and there will be no future payments needed. May 10th came and the front desk told me I have to sign a 30-days cancellation notice which will be another 2x biweekly payments. Will definitely not recommend this gym to anyone. Best of luck to current members cancelling in the future.
Hi Karl, It looks as though you signed on an annual agreement that was up March 2024. After the 1 year is up, the membership is set to go on a pay as you go basis, month to month until you cancel. It looks like we recieved your cancellation on May 12th that you signed to terminate on June 11th. I did want to note that you were still regularly using the club in April 2024, after your expiry date and on the month to month of your agreement.
Positive experience: I’ve been a shapes customer since 2014 and frequent the nairn location the most. It is very clean and mostly well-maintained (some equipment remains in repair for a long time, or is regularly out of order…such as the stair climbers). Staff is always great, and the key fob access after hours is super handy. My biggest complaint is the music as it is atrocious… Bad covers and slow jams, like from a cheesy hallmark movie. Nothing even recognizable. I’d genuinely rather workout in complete silence than forget my headphones and have to listen to it. Would love some more current songs or even just something more upbeat.
Hi Shannon, Our music is operated by stingray and is a satellite radio option that we do not have control over changing the songs, but can change the station. After being on site yesterday, it looks as though afterhours someone is changing the startion behind the front desk. We have gone over with the Nairn staff how to make the approporiate changes to switch it back to more upbeat/ uplifting music. Thank you for the feedback! Appreciate it!
Negative experience: I am with the gym for about 6 months, i like the gym despite the some staff members because they don’t listen. If we ask someone some of them just laugh and say we don’t know nothing and just choose to go away. My shoes got stolen in locked locker and they did not bother to check. NO HELP AT ALL. I heard from other 4-5 people, their shoes also got stolen from locked locker but no care . Some of the staff members are very arrogant. Management please do something. Gym is nyc but not the inquiring staff.

Should our staff be in the building, the front desk is monitered. We encourage all members to bring their outdoor footwear into the change rooms with them as Shapes is not responsible for any lost or stolen items. Negative experience: Horrible customer service. Continuously take money from you with no manager available to speak with. I would advise to never go to this gym.

Negative experience: Bipanjot signed me up for a gym membership and deceitfully misled me about the contract duration, claiming it was only for 6 months when it turned out to be a whole year. As a 17-year-old minor, my parent was absent when the contract was signed, leaving me vulnerable to Bipanjot's dishonesty. When I confronted Bipanjot about the deception, she continued to lie to me, further aggravating the situation. I am deeply upset by this breach of trust and my parents are considering taking legal action to hold Bipanjot accountable for her actions.

Positive experience: It’s a fine classic commercial gym. They could benefit from a more open space for stretching and dynamic workouts. Can be intimidating for beginners and use some more signage around the place but overall a good gym and I had a good experience.

Negative experience: Was looking around for different Gym’s in Winnipeg and was eyeing this location. When calling to ask what their drop in fee was. The lady on the phone said $10. The price was enticing which led myself to have a visit. The energy at the front desk did not seem like they wanted a visit or a new member. No effort to showcase anything special about Shapes either. The drop in fee turned out to actually be $15 which contradicts what was said over the phone. The equipment was nice and clean. You could overall have a good workout. On a side note, the place is pretty dim. It’s worth going here if you live really close to this location but there are way better alternatives in the city.

Negative experience: Before I join the gym, I asked do they turn down the music sometimes it’s very loud it’s hard to hear your own music. They said oh of course you ask them they well that was not true. When I asked them yesterday they said you’re the only person that ever says anything, and we have to keep the music at this level. They made me feel bad and it was so annoying to have to hear two different musics at the same time hard to concentrate when working out and the yoga is still not hot it’s like warm yoga

In speaking to our staff at Nairn, there was no complaints from the heat in the Yoga Studio yesterday, turned on and off as per the yoga scheudle and timer. Negative experience: I wish I could give a negative rating. It’s the worst fitness club I have ever joined. I was never told they are getting me sign a year contract. That girl Mandeep over there did my membership and never told me a word about any contract. Also she claimed to be the manager over there while not giving me any written information for not canceling my membership when I asked for it she hung up on me. When I went there to cancel due to my health issues they refused and told me to cancel. It’s December already and Tina sent me an email telling me I cannot talk to any manager neither I can cancel my membership even if I’m not physically fit to come in. The worst customer service these two ladies are the best at arguing with you and Tina on top that also said she needs to make sure she will do everything in good faith of the gym. I don’t understand what kind of management this is. I will be reaching to bbb about this as the managers are sleeping tightly and ignoring what’s going on at this establishment.

Negative experience: mandeep front desk girl is so rude. i signed up with her for my membership and didn’t tell me anything about the membership. and also tried to get me in trouble for something she didn’t mention to me during my sign up.

Negative experience: First visit to this location. Found the front staff to be quite cold and unwelcome to inquiry on questions related to gender inclusive changing space. Won't be back to this location, disappointing to say the least.

You can either pop into any of our 6 locations to process and sign your notice, takes less than 5 minutes or if you can make it in or have moved away, you can mail in your cancellation to the address on the back of your membership card and once received we will backdate the cancellation to the date it was sent. Negative experience: Well, sadly, in the months since my review, things are going downhill. Equipment is constantly broken and it is literally months before it is repaired. In the women’s washroom, the metal bin for hygiene products was hanging off the wall for over three months. I finally pointed this out. It was completly removed and nothing put in its place while the replacement came in. Three stair masters are broken, one has been out of order for almost two months. Straight leg machine, broken. Been under a tarp for over a month. Now the thigh machine is broken. Members are just using a pad. Talk is everyone is just accustomed to things being broken. I walked around today, just to make sure I was not being dramatic, there are nine machines out of order. One ladies washroom and the door handle in the tanning booth looks like a piece of shrapnel. This is not the cheapest option for a gym, so it is too bad that things are not repaired quickly. I get that things break, but having staff who act like it matters, well that would be nice. I hear a lot about the staff being quite unfriendly. I have not had this experience, however have witnessed some folks being treated, well, dismissively and like they are bothering the staff. The gym is no longer spotless. There are bottles and cleaning towels everywhere. I often go around and collect them as they are actually tripping hazards. Great news though, new lights make the place nice and bright. So that is an upside! I will say, when all the equipment is in good working order, they have everything you could ever need for a great workout. Brenda is the absolute best. There was an unreal mess in the ladies washroom and within ten minutes she cleaned it spotless. The entire gym is spotless all the time. The gym itself is amazing. Front desk people also wonderful. Safe and friendly environment. Thanks to all of the staff!

Fantastic experience: I tried the new Yin Yang hot yoga class today and it was fantastic! Nicole was a great instructor! There is not a lot of awareness of this new class. Hoping that Shapes can help increase awareness to build up attendance so we do not lose this excellent class!

Negative experience: They don't reveal their membership or drop in prices on their website. They're more interested in weaseling you into signing up for a membership. So, I called and immediately was asked if I was interested in signing up for a membership. No, I just wanted to know what the fees were. All she would tell me is there's a membership or I can come in as a drop in, not telling me the cost. I tried again being more specific, asking about drop in prices. I was finally given a number but then she asked if I wanted a membership or drop in. I asked what the member ship fee was. She sorta cut me off and I got bewildered. The lady said Oh, ok then hung up abruptly. Rude, unhelpful and I wouldn't want to give them a chance now.

Positive experience: Nice facility, been coming here on and off for the last 18 years. Only pet-peeve are the clowns that continue to leave plates loaded on the machines/bars when they are done with them, dumbbells and plates scattered everywhere over night.. lazy people don’t realize other people may not be able to take all of it off to be able to use it.. elderly people, women, or beginners. Have some respect and take weights off for the next person.. no one needs to tire themselves out before they lift cleaning up after your mess… getting disgusted with that lately. Other than that, it’s been a good experience.

Negative experience: Over all the facility is fine, nothing special but what you would except for the price. However, I was explicitly told that my membership was cancelled and that I need not do anything further when I went into a branch in early November. I've since discussed with staff that I cancelled the membership and was told that it was cancelled and I've obviously not used the facility since that time, I'm still being charged to this day, months later. I was told that they contacted head office and due to a refusal to come meet in person (I never received any invite) they are unable to do anything. Dealing with the staff has been hostile and unhelpful, and I warn everyone else to get absolutely everything in writing as it seems their staff is incompetent.

All memberships are enrolled on an annual basis and continue month to month after the term has been completed. This is similar to a cable company, cell phone contracts etc, you had completed a cancellation like this before when you purchased a membership in 2020. When you purchased your membership in 2021 it became eligible for a cancellation in September 2022, your cancellation was received in December and is set to terminate. Negative experience: Steer clear if you choose to cancel your membership they will continue to bill after you close out your account. It can turn into a huge back and forth. They bank on people getting fed up and paying. Its a great place to workout but the admin end is very unethical. Save yourself the drama find another gym. In reply to the owner. I went in and paid my account in full to then end of my contract so I could cancel. Then some how I had additional monthly membership charges after paying in full amd canceling with verbal and written notice. Stop gaslighting customers that follow your procedures your business has administrative problems it's common knowledge.

Fantastic experience: I’m from Toronto and we don’t have a Shapes. When I used to live in Winnipeg, shapes was the gym I’ve always went to. I came in looking for a weekly pass for my short visit and a young lady helped me (I forgot her name but she’s Filipino) She helped me get my weekly pass and her service was fast and friendly. She even mentioned the weekly promo which made my experience even more great! I was done signing up under 10 mins and was able to use the gym right away. The gym itself is very clean, spacious and bright. It got a nice upgrade since the last time I’ve been there. Thank you to the young lady that made my experience amazing and quick! I told my sister about this gym and how great it is! I’m trying to get her to sign up :)

Fantastic experience: Nice facility. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. I dropped in to restart my membership after a long period away for maternity leave. The lady working was very kind and patient showing me the child care facilities and introducing me to multiple employees too ease my concerns about dropping my child off while working out.

Negative experience: Worst Fitness centre. When they want to sell the 1 year membership they are so friendly but explain things in rush. First of all they charge freezing fees which is not taken from the total amount left in the year payment. I called them to confirm what are my options as I don’t want to come, they suggested either pay full amount now or keep making the payments. So I kept giving the biweekly payments and contacted them when the time came to end the membership. Then they informed me that oh you have to give 1 month notice and now we will take payments until then. I explained to her that this is not what the guy on phone told me. She said oh its in your contract. First of all we don't read those contracts everyday, that why I called to confirm. Secondly your staff should know about those contracts more than any customer. Highly disappointed and never recommend anybody to go there unless you have money to waste.

Moreover; a copy of the agreement is given to every person who signs up, with indication to read the terms and conditions, and if there is any reason for which you'd like to cancel; there is a 7-day period in which you can do so with no penalties. Fantastic experience: I have been a member since I was a teenager and really enjoy the facilities ! 1. I love the diversity of the classes-allows me to change up my routine and challenge my body 2. Enjoy the flexibility of the times when I can come in as a student! I always am able to come in and find machines or join classes based on time slots that work to my schedule 3. HOT YOGA- I am a huge yoga fanatic. It makes it so easy for me to workout and go attend yoga classes at the same facility! I think the instructors are great and it is always a challenging and mindful experience! 4. Clean, environment; great equipment- great machines that work well are available to me and the facilities are always well taken care of and maintained. 5. Staff is lovely and so friendly and helpful!!
Negative experience: I would not recommend ever getting a membership with Shapes Fitness. Maybe pay for drop in once but never fall for their contract. I agree with another person that said they have “many” 5 stars because people get free merchandise after leaving a “good review”. I’ve been there. I would suggest getting a membership elsewhere.

Negative experience: Do not go to this gym. I signed a 1 year contract and after 6 months I moved a 35 minute drive to the nearest location. I asked to cancel and they refused, which is fine, but the receptionist recommended suspending my membership until that was done (I paid $5 every two weeks). I went back when my contract was due to end and asked to cancel. The person who spoke to me was so mean and told me that when my membership is frozen it extends my contract. I tried to explain that her colleague recommended it and asked me to come back and cancel March 2022. She was like "I can't do anything for you, you should wait". I tried to explain that I had been lied to and lost money for nothing ($10 a month) and she just refused to help or even try to understand. This gym is a rip off and the machines are old don't go there and support a corporate who will tell you anything just to take advantage of you and take your money!

Membership freezes are offered as a temporary hold for members who will return to the club after a few months of being inactive, and it defers your membership term accordingly. This is all stated on the terms and conditions of your membership agreement and the freeze form you would have signed when requesting to freeze the membership. Fantastic experience: This is a reply to Sandhu Navpreets review. Carpets are meant for wiping your feet. When you refuse to take your shoes off and track in mud and rocks it damages the machines and equipment. Also I don't like stepping in the puddles left by your shoes. The ladies at the desk are giving great customer service when they remind you to take your shoes off. She did nothing wrong and was not rude at all.

Negative experience: To update: Although I disagreed with them extending my contract, they actually sent the outstanding amount to collections and as such I was forced to pay for the extended months of the contract. Shapes does not care about it's customers, just getting money. Will not be returning. Again the manager was the most helpful and gave me a bit of a discount on the amount at least. Writing a review once again for this place. I signed on over a year ago, and this past September tried to terminate my membership by giving them plenty of notice before the year was up but they refused. Their reasoning because THEY were closed down due to the pandemic, so my membership is extended. A business being closed is not their customers fault. I signed on expecting a year contract, not one extending another four months. Besides that, it was very uncomfortable going to a gym with a mask on, and with the scare of potentially catching covid there so I barely went when things did open up. Shapes locks you in to take your money and doesn't seem to care about customer satisfaction or fairness, won't be going back again. Check out the other reviews and you will realize that you should save yourself some stress and don't join their gym. Almost all of their workers have no idea what they are talking about, and it is painful to reason with them. Currently trying to fight this extension, hoping that something can be resolved. Their manager is the only professional one. I do not recommend this place.

Negative experience: Ive been going to shapes Nairn for over 7 years now and I really wonder why I still stay. -I have been accused by the staff that I was personal training my friend “under the table” because I was helping a friend with proper form and had my membership suspended for 2 weeks and had to plead my innocence to head office. - Ive had my shoes stolen from the front entrance. -My locker got broken into and my gym bag and sweater were stolen and lock snapped off. -Equipment is often broken and takes several days to repair. -A staff member was very unprofessional and yelled at me for working out "too loud". -My key fob for 24-7 access broke and took several weeks for it to be replaced.

Negative experience: My contract ended and I called them to cancel, but the girl said I have to pay for the time they were closed because of Covid! Like how is this my problem! This is ridiculous when other gyms are not doing this to their members And the girl told me I have to do 10 more payments! Negative experience: I registered for a family plan. During my registration the representative saw both our vaccine proof (me and my brother) and approved us for the gym. And then the next time when we went to gym, they told my brother that vaccine proof is not from Manitoba so it wont work. It was the same vaccine proof that he provided while registration. This is so unfair. Why so much drama if he is double vaccinated? We were going to Goodlife Fitness before this, but they were accepting that vaccine proof and letting us workout. This gym's policies are unknown to your employees and creating so much confusion and money wasting for customers. This is So NOT FAIR!!!!
Hi Ganeev, Please understand that Shapes is in full compliance of the Health order as we have been throughout the entire pandemic. We received a list from the provincial government with acceptable proof of vaccination that can be accepted as well as any member with proof that is not accepted can call 1-866-MAN-VAXX for a digital QR code which is accepted. Once this is received, we would be more than happy to allow access. In the meantime, a complimentary hold can be placed on your account while you await this.

Negative experience: Bad Company stay away I cancelled my membership at the February 2020!!!. But even after that they were withdrawing money from my account. I tried to call them, but no respond. I went to the bank and paid another $ 20 on top so that they would stop withdrawing money from my account!!! after a while, I received an answer to my email that the money would be returned to me. but I still haven't gotten anything!!! and then stopped responding to emails!!! last week my husband called to this location he was told that they would call back. But they never called. today I already went to their location, but they told me again “you have to wait until they figure it out” !!!! WHAT?! It's not the first time, not the second! Even not the third time that we (me and my husband) call them!!! They own me 180$ and I pay on top 20$ just to cancel the transition!!! It is September 2021!!! I am so sick of it!!! I'm not the first person complaining about that!

Fantastic experience: So far I really like the Shapes on Narin as my main location! Everyone is so nice and friendly as well as helpful. I am really enjoying the newer equipment as its easy to use and all level adaptable. It's also really nice to have child care offered so I can bring my 4 month old and have him in a safe area well I can do my workout.

Fantastic experience: Jyoti is simply THE best! She watches my baby girl in the daycare and we always love seeing her. She is so great with all the kids, most times a few of us moms come in to daycare after a workout and all the babies are fed and napping, magic! I truly appreciate all Jyoti does for my daughter and I. Then there is Shelby, she is also SO great. Such a pleasure to see her smiling face every morning. Negative experience: 10 years with this gym and only I used to give it 4 stars. Don't know if it's under new management but its a mess, filthy dirty, staff doesn't address the no outdoor shoe policy, mirrors and washrooms are disgusting. Homless people sleeping in the entrance. If it weren't inexpensive I would have left. Thats the only reason it gets a star, cause its cheap
Hi Matt, Thank you for your feedback - we appreciate you brining this to our attention. I noticed with your membership that you are coming in during unstaffed hours, unfortunately we have a hard time controlling outdoor shoes if we are not working the front desk but have officially hired a consultant to do overnight audits to help correct this discrepancy. We have gone over your review with our cleaning staff and shared your concerns and have come up with a plan to ensure that the club is presentable when you come in early mornings - our first staff is in at 6:30am and our cleaners at 7:30am. As for the increase in homelessness in our province, during our staffed hours this is not an issue, however we are doing our best with the help of our city police and members to kindly ask them to leave our facilities when we are in the club vestibules after hours for warmth. We are trying our hardest to control this but this is a rising issue in our province and we have to put the safety of everyone, staff included first when it comes to assessing the situation and asking them to leave. Thank you for your many years with us, we appreciate your feedback and will continue to work on this to improve how you feel about our facilities. We need our members feedback to continue to grow!
Negative experience: Facility is amazing. Equipments are always cleaned which is great! My one complaint tho is the management and service. Me and my friends booked for an 8:40am gym session and when we got there doors were locked so I used my key fob. Mind you we all have memberships and pay for THEIR SERVICE! We were immediately told about the new holiday policy which requires every member to use their key fob upon entry aside from the online scheduling, to avoid an over capacity. However, it was very unique in our case as some of us did not have our key fob at the moment and we had just purchased a new one, but the issue lies within the fact that we were not allowed entry when we had no prior knowledge of the new policy but had scheduled online which says that we booked a spot in the gym that we paid access for. We’re members for a reason, the least we can get from them is their understanding. Communication should be improved and they should have let their members known via email or something.
Hi Clair, On holidays and days where the staff is on reduced hours, all members are to use their key fob upon entry. Our key fob system helps us track everyone in the facility, helps us contact trace which is mandatory as per the provincial government and allows us to know that only our members are using the service. Each member pays for a key fob at the point of sale and receives within 3 days. To keep it fair to all members, everyone is required to use their own key fob or else we will not have a record of who is in the facility! Hope this clears up some confusion! Negative experience: I sent in a request on February 9, 2021 to request that my account be indefinitely frozen due to the pandemic. I was told this isn't an option, so I decided to cancel my membership. Confirmation of my cancellation letter was received shortly after. As of March 18, I was charged the regular bi-weekly membership rate as if I were attending the gym the past month. Based on many of the reviews here, it looks like I'm not the only one that's very puzzled as to why Shapes is still withdrawing funds after written confirmation of receiving a cancellation letter. Why would I be charged for the past month when my cancellation was fully confirmed and acknowledged by staff in mid February? Is there such a disconnect between membership cancellations and the accounting department that delays the cancellation process so much and then holds the customer monetarily liable for the delay? I was hoping to have a smooth cancellation process, especially after attending the gym for over a decade, but it appears I'm in the same boat as the many of the other people.

Negative experience: I joined this gym December 2019 with them telling me that I can cancel my membership at anytime. I never once used my membership due to having unexpected surgery. Tried to cancel my membership but was denied. For the rest of the year they have been taking money out of my account. Nothing I can do. Lady at the front desk says theres nothing she can do. Anyways the contract ended in December 2020 and they stopped taking money out. But it’s now March 2021 and these greedy ppl are starting up again. Money coming out of my account again. I wish I would of read the reviews cuz they are not very honest ppl, very greedy.

Negative experience: Back in December 2020 I emailed the GYM to cancel my membership. Never heard back from them. Fast forward to March 12, 2021 the GYM is still charging me. I have submitted my cancellation just like they requested back in December in an Email. After following up on the 12th of march and I get told by rude person “Aura” on the phone that I need to come in to cancel my service. Why in the hell do I need to come in to cancel? It's 2021, I should be able to either email or mail my cancellation letter. I personally do not feel comfortable using your gym during this time and I shouldn’t have to come to your place to cancel a membership. I get it you are trying to complicate the process, so people do not cancel. I’ve been going to shapes for over 10 years now, despite the poor staff (not all staff mostly their Manager) and the theft that kept happening there I still went there and supported your business. Why end this on a bad note? I will be more than happy to tell my friends and family to stop supporting your business and go somewhere else. All businesses are suffering from the pandemic, if you are operating your business and do not have enough staff to support your customers, that is your issue and not your customer. feedback to Chris Rousseau, your business will not last long based on the poor customer service and bad management decisions. I will be more than happy to give my business to other gyms. Ps freezing all your customer accounts during the pandemic was not a favor to your customer, what choice did you have? You either freeze them or all of your customers will cancel.

Negative experience: We signed up for a corporate membership over a year ago. The customer service regarding the membership was awful. When covid hit and things got worse we intended to cancel our membership but had to wait until the membership term was finished (fair) but when it was up was around the same time as the Code Red closure that shut down gyms. The day before the gym shut down they refused to cancel the membership for us because they “weren’t allowed to process them that day”. Now that they have opened up the my are telling us we yet again have to wait to cancel and we may have to pay for another billing cycle when we have intended to cancel. I also know other gyms that allow you to cancel over the phone. This gym told us we could come in to do so then once we were finally seen we couldn’t anymore. Also, I do lots of functional work and could never find bands or an agility ladder to do additional exercises on the turf.
Hi Julianna, Thank you for your feedback - yes, we asked all members to wait to cancel to allow the club to reopen until February 22nd as we wanted to give the limited occupancy that we are allowed to operate at to our eager members awaiting to work out and not to everyone wanting to cancel. All payments have been deferred to February 25th for this reason so members wanting to cancel are not paying for services that they do not want to use. Thank you for understanding.
Negative experience: The level of injustice and unfaireness that customers are facing in the hands of the people who work at Shapes Fitness is outrageous.This atrocious practice must stop!To give you some context, I received a call from a lady asking me for money telling me that I owe money to Shapes because I haven't made any payment for my gym membership. How could you ask a customer to pay you money when you never give them access to use your facility? Or without issuing them a membership card? I understand the need to support local business and help them to stay in business. However, the needs to do business in good faith and lawfully are keys principles that must be respected. It is time for accountability and to stop such awful and unethical practices. Justice will prevail and the rules of laws will triumph.
Hi Jo, Thank you for reaching out to Shapes - our clubs and offices are temporarily closed due to the provincial mandate. All accounts are frozen at no charge to you until we reopen. However if you are owing, it would be for services owed before we closed and not during the closure. Since we are closed, the phone call you received would not have been from Shapes, however a 3rd party agency that collects on behalf of Shapes. Our goal is to ensure all of our members are happy and satisfied with our services, our apologies that we fell short in that department.
Positive experience: Great gym equipment and staff is very friendly. Very clean and organized there. They follow all sanitary procedures and protocols. Just have to make sure you book your time slot online before hand.

Negative experience: I have a membership of 6 weeks at this gym and my last day of membership is on feb 6, 2020, i went to at gym on feb 2 and i talk to receptionist that I don’t want to continue with this gym. But this August snd they are still deducting more than 50 dollars every month, I hardly check my account but i just check few days ago and I called them their staff and manager are kinda rude, they are saying we cannot do anything for that, I don’t know how can i get my money back. Because its not my fault i went their for the cancellation.
Hi KP, Our pay as you go is a minimum of 6 weeks for a commitment, it still requires a notice to terminate your agreement. Have you submitted your cancellation? One the cancellation is processed, your agreement is terminated.
Negative experience: Front desk girls during the morning are rude, very poor attitudes. Would be nice to come to a gym that has positive attitudes surrounding you and welcoming you in.

Negative experience: How do i cancel membership? I know its frozen right now but i would like to cancel it completely. It’s supposed to renew in June. I sent an email more than a month ago in advance but never received an email cuz gym is closed. I don’t want to be charged extra. Edit: thanks for your reply but you didn’t help me. I want it cancelled and i don’t want to be charged when gyms open back up. I have a gym in my condo now. How do i cancel it? Hi Shelton, As you know, our clubs are temporarily closed due to a worldwide pandemic. Since closing we have had no staff working, we did try to leave an appropriate voicemail message as well as an away message to all our emails to notify our members that we do not have anyone in responding. All memberships are frozen free of charge and when we reopen we would be happy to address your concerns. Hopefully the 1 star experience doesn’t reflect your time with Shapes. If we could be working right now to serve our members, we absolutely would! Stay well!
Negative experience: Head office is closed and there is a voice recording that memberships will be frozen at no cost to us, due to COVID-19. However, I have had 3 payments auto debited from my account since the end of March! The gym is CLOSED, all employees are LAID OFF and I am still paying for a service that I am UNABLE to use!!!??? This is criminal! Where is my money, and I am sure other members’ money going? How can they be allowed to do this?!!! I WILL NOT be renewing my membership.
Hi Kelly, Thank you for reaching out during these trying time’s. We are still temporarily closed due to COVID-19. Our clubs closed on March 18th and as per our website, all memberships including yours, are frozen. This was mentioned in our chain of emails back and forth with each other as we have reached out to you since your first email submission. As mentioned before, your reoccurring payments after March 19th payment is for fitness coaching. You would have done your Fitness coaching payments as a finance agreement. When you train, you were not paying per session, Shapes took the total cost and split it over 26 bi weekly payments so you are paying the least amount possible and not each time. You are currently being billed for services you’ve already used and having yet paid for. Your remaining sessions will be made available to you when we reopen. We would be more than happy to send you a statement of your payments made vs sessions used when we reopen! Hopefully this clears up your confusion. As a locally owned business, we understand the situation and are closely monitoring our provinces reopening plan to reopen soon to better serve our member during these difficult times.
Positive experience: It could be a lot better if managed properly. Lots of the staff just sit around and never enforce rules. Often you see people not wiping down the equipment, good luck finding a plate that you need because nothing is in order and most of the time the dumbbells are scattered as well. Changing rooms are clean showers are great not many places have enclosed showers so that's a plus. The sauna is in the locker room which I'm impartial to because I like to use it with my wife but it could be hotter as well. Value wise it's pretty good especially if you get a deal.
Sorry to hear that we have fallen below expectations. Through Covid we heavily increased our cleaning as well as our hours for the cleaning staff to ensure the club is a safe space for all members and non members to attend.
