Hone Fitness Yonge & Isabella: Opinions
Positive experience: I have been going to Hone Fitness for 4 years and switched to this location within the last year. I will say, the Danforth location is much nicer. But this is partially due to the age of the building. I would say you definitely get what you pay for. I work out at this gym because it is convenient and has all the equipment I need. If you want a gym that is completely spotless and fancy, you will have to pay more than $30-$40 per month. I think I have two major complaints. 1. The water fountains are dated and not good for refilling water bottles 2. It always feels like there are just barely enough plates available in the weight room. As well, many of the plates are broken or chipped. Overall though, the gym has a wide variety of equipment and has improved when it comes to maintenance.
Negative experience: It was my first time going to the gym in years. I had 3 days trial. The hostess was rude. She was annoyed when I asked her to show me the place. Did not give me any cleaning instructions... I had to ask her to show me the top floor and she didn't even explain how to register. At this point, I had enough and didn't bother to ask. I just did a session to see. Both rowers were not working. I will not go back.
Fantastic experience: Great place! Amazing facilities, very friendly staff, totally recommend!
Positive experience: Staff are super friendly and feels like great community of people who work out there. Only rating 4 stars because the building, washrooms, and equipment could use an upgrade as some things are worn down
Fantastic experience: Always great to workout here!
Fantastic experience: Been going to this gym for a while now and it is a good community space for me. While there are days when you are working out alone, I end up seeing a lot of my friends here. The machines are well maintained and given the age of this gym, it reflects in the equipment. Overall, not a bad experience at all.
Negative experience: Lots thieves at this location. Watch out for your stuff.
Negative experience: Total scam. They intentionally make it difficult to cancel your membership. Charged me $300 despite using the gym only one month. Also, the gym sucks, equipment is very old. And it smells like food.
Fantastic experience: I love this gym. So affordable and very nice
Fantastic experience: A bit old, but nothing beats it at the price.
Negative experience: When I joined the gym, I made it very clear that I would need to pause/cancel the membership for a month. No employee ever mentioned a 30 day cancellation or even that they dont do holds and O am talking about 2 different people here. The customer service is really poor, their emails are not courteous and not accommodating. I kindly asked them through email if i could hold my membership and they literally wrote me back “nowhere on the contract does it say holds are allowed”. This was an email from a customer service representative too! Someone who should know their job. Im never coming back to this place. The staff at the location is pretty nice though no complaints for them. But they literally are here for the money with no regards to customer service. Never coming back again after my vacation
Positive experience: I like that they don’t speak to me, they don’t approach to me, don’t give me an eye. All i wanted is a gym that is not crowded and people focus on their workout instead of socializing and working out in large group because i get intimidated and triggers social anxiety. By far this gym is best suited for my liking and lifestyle.
Fantastic experience: The best gym you will find in Toronto, great people, great machines. Highly recommend anyone looking for a proper setup without breaking the bank. If you are looking to join a proper community and really push yourself to the limits come here. Special shout out to Jay, Eric, and Jelo, these guys will not only make you feel at home but also provide a helping hand for anything you need. Been around a few gyms in toronto and can say with confidence nothing comes close to the community here.
Negative experience: WARNING -- AVOID AVOID --- HONE FITNESS IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CANCEL - JIM SOLOMAN IS THE OWNER, YOU CAN OFTEN FIND HIM AT THE CORNER OF BAY AND BLOOR AND/OR IN YORKVILLE LANES
Negative experience: Hone Fitness Isabella- Location They finally stopped charging me after nine months from my initial cancellation request. The front desk at the gym will ask you to contact the head office, The head will never respond untill few months have passed which is very rude, They act unaccountable, and unapologetic and will try to put blame on you for the charges —more like shameless scammer. YMCA’s have better equipment and more options
Fantastic experience: Nice Gym!! Less crowded than other chains!! I took free assessment with Mohamed he was really nice gave me his honest opinion shared some tips on how I can loose weight and gave me initial tips to loose weight. I will Definitely recommend Him as your trainer.
Negative experience: I almost never write reviews, however HONE FITNESS needs to stop operating in bad faith. I canceled my membership and they continue to bill me each and every time! It leaves such an awful taste for a company ran by the former CEO of extreme fitness. You would think experience would mean better service, clearly not! Think TWENTY times before signing up with these scammers. And then another TEN times, its impossible to cancel once they have your banking details.
Negative experience: AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. The washrooms reek of urine because none of the flushes work. Every piece of equipment is filthy and covered in dust and broken. It seems like the gym is never cleaned. The manager is completely incompetent, can't handle criticism, and regularly breaks the gym's own rules.
Positive experience: Being as honest as possible, 3 stars is realistic. Great pricing, location and it’s a large gym. No frills, but to be expected. What gets me is that the staff are selectively friendly , something I’ve never experienced at a gym anywhere across the GTA. Although not expensive members, every member should feel welcomed and valued - not just select ones. It’s not that they are rude , just disinterested. “Welcome and goodbye/have a nice day” is standard practice for basic customer service. I guess if you look a certain way, that’s when you get the proper treatment. Keeping the gym tidy and paper towel restocked should be another priority which is consistently neglected. I’m likely to continue and would recommend to others with caution.
Negative experience: I felt so unsafe here. The gender divide is about 80/20 men; as a woman I certainly didn't feel comfortable. The gym itself is grim and the bathrooms are unspeakably filthy. Bring any concern to one of the gym-bro staff members and they just look at you contemptuously and shrug. I've found a much safer, friendlier, cleaner, bigger, cheaper, more inclusive gym just down the street. Apparently that whole section of Yonge and Isabella is about to be redeveloped, so this review might very soon be irrelevant.
Fantastic experience: Really good gym, many squat racks, all the machines and equipment available, hygieneic and spacious
Negative experience: Do not come here! The management is not helpful at all and frauding people. They continued to charge me $20.28 bi-weekly but keep telling me to PAY! And had to cancel the membership and paid $60!!!!! Do not come here.
Negative experience: My overall experience at the gym was really nice, the staff are friendly and accommodating. I think with some TLC & maintenance, this gym could be someplace really great. The machines are pretty dated, and some don’t have the proper handles to utilize properly. The pads are pretty worn & ripped. Definitely in need of repair or replacement. I’m a short girl, and some of the adjusters on the machines never work, so it’s hard to get proper use of some of the equipment. The women’s change room isn’t necessarily messy, but it’s definitely not cleaned regularly. The water fountains barely release enough water to reach your bottle, let alone fill it. Their prices aren’t far off from other memberships, but they offer substantially less than other gyms. No classes, pool, sauna or any other amenities. Also, to cancel my membership has been a bit of a hassle .. I sent an email as requested, and was told I needed to pay all of the payments that would be due within the 45 day period at one time — which isn’t explained properly upon joining — but then was told my payment couldn’t be charged due to insufficient funds, which didn’t make sense since it’s still a new card .. THEN for them to STILL be taking regular payments, basically ignoring my cancellation request. So it’s a confusing process to say the least. I really would love to give a higher rating, but there are definitely some kinks that need to be worked through.
Positive experience: Good selection of machines and benches but because it's a downtown location you'll always be waiting if u decide to go at a busy hour, music is also insanely loud- not sure why but it could definitely be turned down a bit. It blares through my noise canceling headphones drowning out my own music
Positive experience: Well furnished gym. Give them a try. Say hi to Nicholas. Eat well, get fit , live healthy. Never give up, never surrender.
Negative experience: Club is big, old, dirty, messy and not safe. A lot of equipment, but they are old and many machines in bad condition. Rolling machine wasn't fixed during 4 months. The only one reason I visited this place was close location. But after my shoes was stolen from the changing room my patience end. Managemant don't care about safety and what going on in the gym
Negative experience: My phone was stolen at this location by this obese black guy that works there as a personal trainer. I accidentally left it downstairs and came back from upstairs 5 mins later to find it missing. The trainer was with a client, the only two there when I left the area. I asked for a review of the camera footage to see what happened to it, The owner told me the cameras don't work. So dishonest employees plus no camera safety. The gym itself is overpriced, overcrowded, with minimal equipment. They don't even let you change handlebars on their equipment.
Positive experience: Location is accessible. Staff is friendly. Washroom/toilets need improvement though. Lots of space to work out as well as machines to use. You get what you paid for.
Positive experience: Good location. Fully equipped. Usually not so crowded in the morning and early afternoon. And you can bring a guest every day. One star off because the weights are not arranged.
Fantastic experience: Good staff, nice place and vibe! Week days open 6:00am punctual! Amazing gym
Fantastic experience: The gym is great for downtown, I wish they could open sooner on the weekends but it’s ok. Laura is amazing all the time! She’s always professional and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Very nice gym with decent equipment, plate loaded machines which is a major plus
Fantastic experience: Amazing place to workout. Lots of different machines and free weights to use. Staff is friendly and easy to talk to. Don't think this place will stay a secret for much longer.
Negative experience: I have been a long time ember of hone fitness but due to their employee giving me the wrong information on cancellation they are continuing to charge me and are saying they will continue if i do not pay up. i HAVE BEEN A MEMBER FOR TWO YEARS AND ONLY CANCELLED AS I HAVE LEFT THE COUNTRY! They refuse to take any accountability for their poor training and take multiple days to get back to me. Stay away from this gym as their is virtually no customer service.
Negative experience: As far as the gym and it's equipment goes, it's better than most gyms in the city. As for the staff they barely say hello or goodbye as you come and go. The roof is constantly leaking so one day I decided to mention it to staff and he said it's an old building what do you expect hahaha, I expect it to be repaired so I'm not getting pissed on while I workout.. ah yes a few bins will do the job. Update: removing a star as they also have a policy whereby you must notify them 45 days in advance of cancellation which is ridiculous considering the payment is on a biweekly basis. I believe the rating is a 4+ purely because they call negative reviewers asking them to remove their reviews..
Negative experience: Be careful with their contracts as they will do everything they can to squeeze money out of you. 3 years after cancelling my membership, out of nowhere, they've sent me a bill for $400 saying my membership was not canceled even though they did not receive any payments from me. Its been a nightmare going back and forth with them getting passed from person to person.
Negative experience: I have not gone for 10 months, of course they have a way to see if you are using their services or not using them, of course they would not let anyone use the services if you do not pay and in addition the page doesn’t They have options to unsubscribe or resolve issues, only payments, now I don't even have access to my account to see what’s happening, I renewed my bank card, but in addition I paid two more months before to stop using the membership, today 10 months later I receive an email that I have to pay the debt that I have and in addition I read that to unsubscribe you have to pay a penalty, when i don't even choose the annual package, what I wonder is why they didn't send me the notice of payment months ago
Negative experience: This was a good gym that I enjoyed going to, but the cancellation prices are extremely predatory and unethical. If I wanted to cancel my subscription, I had to give 45 days notice (during which I would be paying the subscription fee) and I would have to be charged an additional $50 + tax to cancel. There is no other word than predatory for this kind of behavior, and people should know.
Negative experience: DO NOT SIGN UP TO THIS GYM!!!!!! I went for 1 day and tried cancelling. In fact it has not been 7 months of emails asking them to cancel my membership with numerous non responses and they are still charging me, still emailing giving me numerous hoops to jump through and asking for more money just to cancel. And STILL they will not cancel and just keep charging me. Tired of literally begging them to stop and still they continue. A shameful and disrespectful company with atrocious customer service.
Negative experience: As many others have already said, this place has the worst customer service. The manager and trainer I dealt with literally gave me ptsd. Couldn’t get back into a gym setting for years.
Positive experience: Overall a very good gym at a reasonable fee. An excellent assortment of equipment and you generally don't have to wait for cardio machines (unlike the YMCA on Grosvenor.) Two minor quibbles: the gym is a bit warm and could stand the a.c. on a bit more/cooler, and the hand dryer in the men's change room is basically useless. People end up using toilet paper from the closest stall to dry their hands, then clog the same toilet to discard it. Again, minor concerns but easy fixes.
Positive experience: I did two sessions here and through ClassPass, and after reading some of the google reviews I was a tad concerned, but honestly compared to a couple of the gyms I’ve been to in Canada, this one was actually really good. A huge array of equipment, the space is huge, there are multiple spacious areas to perform different types of exercise and at the times I went (6am and 8am) the gym wasn’t at all busy. The main issues I found (which others have highlighted) are the general condition of the padding on some of the equipment, plus the numbering has also been removed from some of the cable machines. Secondly, there is literally no order to the dumbbells. I would have to say this is probably one of the worst gyms I’ve been to in terms of dumbbell organisation. There’s no clear labelling on the racks, so I think this is a contributing factor.
Negative experience: How long can things remain broken and left unfixed at this gym? Nothing gets fixed in time, the hand dryer in washroom has been broken for months, is this gym really this poor to replace one small hand dryer? does that even meet regulation requirement when there is not even any paper towels?! Not to mention how disgusting the whole washroom area is. So many equipments broken and pieces missing. Why does it only open till 6pm during the weekend? Are we still in pandemic or what? Truly one of the worst gym I have ever been
Negative experience: This place started scamming people during the pandemic to make extra money. They quietly changed the rules so that anyone who put their account on hold at the front desk was required to pay for every month they were gone once they returned. Skeezy and dishonest.
Positive experience: The Good: Low price and a good location for a gym. Lots of equipment and space. Better than Planet Fitness. The Bad: Often crowded at busy times (to be expected), Very few people follow decent gym etiquette and return their weights. I often spend more time trying to find the plates I need. Equipment has been removed since I have started. There used to be a large pullup rack that was great, but now it is gone. They used to have extensive resistance bands, but those have disappeared. A squat rack was recently removed and replaced with a freakin' Smith Machine! They need more squat racks not less and replacing a squat rack with a Smith machine is a crime against nature. There really should be more weights and some of the plates have even been broken but were never replaced. The Ugly: There are leaks in the ceiling that sometime results in a squat rack being 'out of order" while some buckets get placed. Talk to the landlord. I think more squat racks, more enforcement of general gym etiquette (PUT AWAY YOUR WEIGHTS!) and a bit of improvement on the infrastructure would go a long way to improving the facility to its pre-pandemic levels.
Fantastic experience: Love it! The gym is clean and spacious. It has a lot of equipments
Positive experience: Has all the equipment you need, but the facility used to be dirty and had a strong odor, with water leaking from the roof on rainy days. Update: After almost 3 years, they’ve fixed the roof leaks, but cleanliness could still use some attention.
Fantastic experience: Great local chain of 6 gyms throughout downtown Toronto. Really nice, friendly staff. They are often open with reduced hours during holidays like Christmas week. There's onsite fitness instructors, a smoothie bar, and free tanning booths. You sign up and get a barcoded keyfob to enter. Bring your own lock for the lockers!
Fantastic experience: 20x better than whatever I had convinced myself. Tons of space and equipment, plenty of squat racks, folks attending to serious business with minimal hijinx. Incredibly friendly, attentive and responsive staff. Good stuff at a great price.
Fantastic experience: This is the most bang for your buck gym in downtown Toronto if you like weight training! A variety of equipment and free guest privileges. The manager guy there Eric is awesome and super welcoming. Especially he's so knowledgeable about equipment and always willing to help. Highly recommend if you are serious bout lifting and looking for a new gym.
Fantastic experience: I come to this gym every time I come to Toronto. Super convenient, clean, and literally has everything you could want in a gym.
Negative experience: The smell of the building is off-putting, with a musty odor. Just an ordinary gym, nothing specific or outstanding about it. The building is old, the space is fairly large but the equipment is cramped together. Also, some of them need replacement in roller foams and the leather cushion. It's not for me.
Positive experience: You definitely get what you pay for. This is a no bells and whistles gym. It's very open and spacious. It's very inclusive; all body types, varied nationalities. The crowd should not intimidate anyone who isn't a frequent gym goer. Pretty quite in the morning and daytime. There aren't many or any group classes. I've seen a sign advertising group space but I've never seen one. It's relatively clean but this isn't Goodlife where there is continuous and visible cleaners and supplies being restocked. But you aren't paying Goodlife fees, either. It should open earlier on weekends and stay open later during the week.
Positive experience: All good except that: 1) They don't seem to repair or replace the old machines. 2) Weight plates are scarce, have they been slowly getting robbed? 3) it gets hot because of lack of air circulation and barely any AC. OTHERWISE, I enjoy going to this gym, it's inside looks unique, it's colorful, and they have a variety of areas to train in different ways so people have their own space, such as a stretching/mat area, free weight area, squat rack/heavier weight area with benches, strength machine area, cardio machine area, etc. Although peak times are crowded, its membership price is great value for all the equipment you get. The shower area is kind of cold, and there are no benches near the showers so its a little hard to dress. There used to be more TVs but some were removed -- unsure why, but I would love to see a variety of channels on TV, not just the sports and news channels. As you can see, its not the perfect gym, but its enjoyable and has a lot of positives which make it worth it over other gyms. My main feedback is: please fix broken machines within 2-3 weeks max, and please add fans to the cardio area since there's a lack of air circulation in that area.
Positive experience: Hours need to be extended. COVID restrictions r long gone. there are people who want to come really early in the morning and late at night . Good place other than that.
Positive experience: I have been attending this gym for about a year now. There is an obese personal trainer that comes here and preys on mostly female noobs by trying to make them feel insecure about their weight.
Fantastic experience: Great space, love the equipment, and the staff are super friendly. The manager here, Eric, is amazing and always happy to help with anything. However, some of the machines are pretty old and some don't work that well, so I wish they would replace them with newer models and add in a couple more pieces (i.e. hack squat and better smith machines)
Negative experience: I first enrolled in Hone Fitness Gym in 2017-18. Back then the price was $10/month along with a yearly maintenance fee. This fee was unprecedented for a downtown location and it even included a free session of individualized assessment. Conveniently located on Yonge and Isabella and very welcoming to members who like lifting, this Gym was a no-brainer. The relationship with the staff was surprisingly personal. Since then, however, things changed a lot. First the maintenance fee repeatedly went up and, later, the price increased to $35 for 4 weeks. That is a huge increase by any standard of measurement. Simply stated, Hone Gym is no longer a bargain. Meanwhile, the equipment deteriorated, the roof keeps leaking and certain areas of the gym are red-taped for weeks. Clearly, maintenance and cleanliness are not their priority. Customers are not their priority. The free session was also abolished and the option to put your membership on hold is no longer offered, regardless of your reason for requesting it. Ridiculous cancellation penalties is another new feature that seeks to trap the member. Even the opening hours have been shortened (which gym closes at 9 p.m.?) I suppose, then, that my main complaint about Hone Gym is that once it established itself as a strong player in the market, it turned its back to the customers and became oblivious of all the good reasons that made it appealing to the community. The once mutually respectful and amicable client-manager relationship has sadly transformed into virtual improsonment, where fine print and unilateral actions are the new reality. I am certain they won't even bother reading my feeback even though I have been with them since the beginning. Just this evening, I informed them about a serious foot injury I incurred and they refused to accommodate me by freezzing my membership until my recovery (even though their customer representative falsely promised that freezing the membership is possible). What they told me was I could cancel and pay the $99 penalty. A sign of how much powerful they think they've grown over time. They'd rather have you leave and grab the penalty fee, than accommodate you for a few weeks. If you don't like it, here's the door. Disappointing.
Fantastic experience: Hone quickly became one of my favorite gyms. Good price for the big weekly. The spaces are pretty well set up. Especially the Isabella location. The energy and music is spot on.
Fantastic experience: Great trainer with Gary Lewis. Thanks to Gary who motivated me to come back after a 2 1/2 year absence due to Covid. I am now back for about 1 month and feeling good about it.
Fantastic experience: Love the vibe in this gym. The staff are very kind and keep the place clean. The other members are very encouraging and you can feel the positive energy!
Fantastic experience: Good environment. Everyone is minding their business.
Fantastic experience: Love the vibe in this gym. The staff are very kind and keep the place clean. The other members are very encouraging and you can feel the positive energy!
Fantastic experience: It's a huge gym, I liked a lot.
Negative experience: Terrible experience with this gym. They charged me during the pandemic, when the gym was not useable. over a year after the pandemic, I received a surprise notice saying that I owed them over $300. No previous notices were issued to say I was in default or owed outstanding fees or that my membership was intact. Just one big surprise bill. (It was a surprise because I never saw a charge on my credit card so I assumed that my membership was cancelled after I complained about pandemic charges). My fault for assuming but the very least someone could do is send a letter saying I owe money before charges rack up! Happy to switch to Goodlife and convince my friends at work and school to avoid this gym or risk loosing hundreds of hard-earned dollars. I’ve successfully convinced many and urge you to do the same. Cheers!
Fantastic experience: Awesome place, great deal for all that's included, staff members and Manager have always been very nice and respectful to me. 10/10 would recommend
Fantastic experience: Awesome gym! Super clean, friendly staff and all the equipment has the best quality.
Negative experience: Garbage gym. What fitness centre in downtown Toronto closes at 9pm on weekdays! It was also such a hassle to cancel my membership. At first, I went to the front desk to request a cancellation and then they told me that I had to send an email to do it. I sent an email and then received a message saying that my credit card had "insufficient funds", which made no sense because it was a new card. On top of that, I updated my credit card info months ago and when I went back to front desk they told me that they had no record of my new number. So I demanded they cancel it while I was there. Also, they will continue to charge your account without any notification of processing errors. Stay away from this dirty, lame gym.
Negative experience: Too much testosterone for me. From the incessant grunting (with 5 pound plates) to people machine hogging for no reason except to scroll on their phones or explain bro science...while others wait, makes the experience unpleasant. Additionally, what's up with attaching machine handles to the various equipment so that you cannot interchange to do whatever you need to do. Too much machine restriction and gym bros for me.
Fantastic experience: Great spacious gym, had really good workouts there. Unfortunately I relocated to another location and I can tell that this is location is one of the best. 4 different big rooms to workout lots of mirrors and space even in the busy hour.
Fantastic experience: Great spacious gym, had really good workouts there. Unfortunately I relocated to another location and I can tell that this is location is one of the best. 4 different big rooms to workout lots of mirrors and space even in the busy hour.
Fantastic experience: Affordable and a nice place to work out. Lots of new equipment with some tech, so not need to wait until someone finish their sets... There's also a juice/smoothie bar right next to it that its pretty great
Fantastic experience: Excellent..... Isabella is the mecca of all the hone fitness locations and I recommend all to go and check it out. Out of all the gyms out there I put Hone at the top.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and staff, and the public that are there are friendly too
Negative experience: The lack of cleanliness and hygiene in this gym is worrying. Never soap in the bathrooms or showers, filthy sinks, spits in the mirrors. It’s a big space and desert to work out up to 75lb dumbbells only. Just quite dirty and old.
Fantastic experience: Amazing space and adequate equipment so you're not having to wait for others to finish. Plenty of sanitizer stations throughout.
Negative experience: I have been attempting to cancel my membership for two years and they are still taking payment from my account. I have called in 8 seperate times being told that if I email in to hone fitness with a cancelation request than it will be canceled. I have done this four times attempting to cancel and they are still taking funds. I have attempted to call and all the voicemail boxes are full. I need someone from hone fitness to contact me to have this resolved. I have reported hone fitness to the better business bureau and will not stop until this matter is resolved. I have paid almost $1000 over the past two years while trying to have this canceled. I would never recommend hone fitness to anyone. This has been the worst experience and this matter is currently still ongoing. This is absolutely ridiculous. Hone fitness is literally stealing from me with no attempt to stop this.
Negative experience: This gym staff is very unprofessional and rude to customers....Never join here. I joined here one month ago and terminated my membership because of their staff behavior. When you raise any complain to their manager, very first thing manager advise to the customer that you can terminate your membership. He made Zero effort for customer issues resolution or customer retention. I feel sorry for the owner who is losing business because of incompetent staff and manager. Also this gym has many reviews on Yelp and here on Google for fraud charges after termination of membership they will keep charging your card regularly and they will never refund. Check Yelp for more info. Many people have reported payment fraud issues and customers have to call their bank to block payments for this gym, that is the only way to stop. In covid after reopen their staff is still careless, they don't maintain any hygiene or sanitization....many times there are no sanitization or papers to clean equipments, people sweat on the bench and left it becoz there are no supply to clean. Their staff don't check regularly for supplies and refills or may be they ignore it intentionally to save money. I started bringing my own sanitized wipes, towel to keep equipments and bench clean and hand sanitizer for self protection they don't allow customers to carry a small bag with them. They ask customers to carry everything in hand . Never saw such a rediculous business. All government rule book for sanitizing is just on paper, they follow nothing except the mask because that is openly visible to everyone. I joined here because it was close to me and end up terminating in one month. Please protect your self and save your money by joining some where else. This place is just not safe to workout.
Negative experience: I have been going to Hone fitness for three months now to get back in shape after the last lockdown. Decent facility, clean, modest number of machines but large enough selection. I’ve even gone so far as to repost then on Instagram. Today my girlfriend and I went in and the “manager” (Eric) together with a personal trainer came up to wave and speak to my friend. He introduced himself, shaking her hand (hello Covid?) then proceeded to get her a hair tie as she requested. My friend is in amazing shape, wearing a sports bra and a pair of leggings and because I am not in that type of shape I was completely ignored. When I confronted both parties I was laughed at and patronized due to my physical appearance and weight. In 2021 I would hope we would live in a world that we aren’t judged based on our appearance especially when in a place to try to better it.
Negative experience: Wanted to sign up for a membership but after I saw so many negative reviews and that they still require u to sign a contract for one year or pay higher price I decided to go to Planet Fitness. They just lost me as a customer. Bad business practices.
Fantastic experience: I had the opportunity to check out this place for five days during my trip to TO. It is a great gym with a wide selection of equipment and huge space spanning two floors. The members are respectful and the cost seems to be quite reasonable. If I had lived in the area this would have been my go to gym. Also the owner/operator looks like Jason Momoa who somehow manages to run the whole operation by himself.
Positive experience: Cold water in the bathroom would be great. Seems to always be a "work order". The bathrooms sinks are always hot or very warm. Washing my face would be amazing !
Negative experience: I have been wrestling with Hone for about a year now to close my account due to Covid. They will not stop charging my card. They emailed everyone when they closed in the lockdown, but did not notify me upon either reopening that they would begin billing me again or that the facilities were even open. I emailed in November to close my account and they ignored me. I forwarded my email from November this week and they say will continue to bill me for 6 more weeks. Literally just thieves at this point. A SCAM!!
Fantastic experience: I’ve recently moved downtown and thought I would check out this Gym. The ladies at the desk were fantastic and answered all my questions. Being locked up for over a year it was such a pleasure to be greeted with amazing customer service and warm smiles. Because of them I will be joining this gym. 5 Stars!!
Fantastic experience: Disclaimer - I'm a receptionist here ☺️ I absolutely LOVE the facility - there's a lot of unique equipment like sandbags, battle ropes and a manual treadmill - that a lot of other gyms don't have which allows for a wide variety of training modalities. There's a lot of space between two full floors of equipment and open space with lots of windows, mirrors and exposed brick. A clean and pleasant environment to exercise in! The staff is friendly, down to earth and knowledgable (I may be a little biased!) and the members reflect the same positive vibe and enthusiasm as well. Last, but certainly not least, I love how affordable the membership plans are and they even include access to all locations and FREE tanning! I hadn't heard of Hone Fitness before I started working here but once I discovered it, I was very pleasantly surprised by everything they have to offer. If you're looking for a gym with a fun, neighborhood vibe and all the equipment you need to take your results to the next level, HONE is the one for you! Come say HI and take a tour ♀️
Negative experience: Bad customer service. I subscribed the membership before Covid, and it was shutdown by covid but there was one bi-weekly fee charged after shut down. Then I cancelled my membership in February 2021 by sending an email as requested, because of moving home, while they were still shutdown. However I was charged a bi-weekely fee after they reopened in July, which I cancelled 4 months ago(they requested 1 month cancellation). Had emailed back and forth but they wouldn't refund. I decided not spending time on replying the email it's not worth my time. Whatever.
Fantastic experience: If you like a no-frills gym atmosphere, then this is the space for you. The price is right and the location couldn't be any more perfect. There are plenty of machines and it hardly ever feels busy unless you always go at peak times. You won't find tons of amenities but if you don't care about that, then it's an excellent option for you. The staff are great and welcoming and the management is understanding and fair. The other gym-goers tend to be friendly and I've rarely seen any toxic macho BS that you often see at certain other gyms. I have nothing bad to say about this gym. A great choice.
Fantastic experience: This puppy was a member of Hone in 2017. It was a good experience of my life ever that I have challenged and tried. They taught and helped this puppy to find how to efficiently make body balance. I miss all ex-members.
Negative experience: The price is good for a gym and they offer massage chairs, showers. The machines are in good repair. Downside is the staff and management. A trainer accused me of lying when he asked about something that was none of his business and then said "if we can't be honest then we're gonna have problems" because he somehow thought he was entitled to my privacy. But he was so desperate for a sign up, wouldn't let us talk, lol. My roommate already wanted to sign up so we did anyway, but that was a bad experience. I saw a trainer yell at a poor girl to work harder, totally putting her down, and I could tell it wasn't good training, because he wasn't actually interested in helping. He sat and played on his phone. I'm glad I did not take up the one free training session. So unprofessional! And at the end of a day, I was just waiting for my friend to finish with his workout, and the manager comes in yelling at everyone that they're closed. Cut the power and turned off the lights while people were showering. When someone complained, he said "what you pay is what you get". So health and safety violations are part of the price now too?? I was seriously thinking of complaining to the city about it. If you want a cheap place, it's OK, but honestly you'd probably be better off at Fit4Less or similar. The staff are so bad here. I doubt the alpha male trainers here even understand an iota of proper nutrition and fitness.
Fantastic experience: Hone fitness was super welcoming to me and my boyfriend when we were exploring gym locations. We'd never been part of a gym before and we werent sure if we'd like it, but the staff was very accommodating. We were given a tour and the ability to try things out at our leasure with no commitment. If you're a first time gym member, I highly recommend giving home a shot.
Fantastic experience: Have been already half and a year since I joined the membership. Staff has always been easy-going and friendly and hard-working in maintaining the gym clean and neat at all times. With the most affordable price, I could have kept working out with the feeling that I work out at home :) The people who also work out here are really nice and motivating! Blessed to know this gym in my life in Canada! Please keep up good work.
Fantastic experience: This is one of the most economical gyms, yet the most equipped facility ever. Less crowded, clean and nicely decorated interior with musical vibes. As a newcomer to Canada I have done my researches and found this gym as the most appealing to me. Their customer service is very client-friendly. I couldn't pay charges for a month as my credit card didn't work. They let me continue working out in the gym. This gym is everything y'all need.
Fantastic experience: Great Facility at good price. Great management. Edit: I had an issue with my trainer Gary. Sam, the owner, called me who was a very professional and a reasonable person. He resolved my issue with my trainer. One thing is for sure, the management doesn't take customer service lightly.
Fantastic experience: This is hands down the best gym I've ever been to. The equipment is great, the staff and general manager Sam are amazing and they have always been super friendly and accommodating. For $20 a month in Toronto there is no better gym in the city.
Positive experience: Decent equipment. Good layout, and improving always. Cleanliness in locker room (always dirty floors, regardless of time of day, you can tell it hasn't been washed for weeks as grime builds over time, brooming is not enough) and showers need major improvement. Mouldy caulking in the showers and rusting shower heads is bad for health!
Positive experience: Great membership price, equipment is great for the most part too. Only thing is the dumbbell racks are a complete mess. I shouldn't have to go on a hunt every time I want two matching dumbbells. please reorganize the racks, it would be greatly appreciated. This gym is worth 5 stars but not until this is fixed.
Fantastic experience: Great staff clean and huge multi level facility with tanning on site. Reasonable monthly membership price. Great experience with the free personal training session offered with membership (one session free when you sign up)
Positive experience: I went to this gym off and in for about 3.5 years. Attracted by the super low price and never any crowds. I use this as my 2nd gym, lots of cardio and free weights, locker rooms were generally clean and tidy. About 18 mo ago, they replaced carpeting in there and would no longer let me come in and do my workout with a coffee in hand, explaining a fear that it will stain new carpet. (really, then install that rubber floor stuff, it's easy to clean) but that is a minor blemish as I was thrilled I never had to wait for any piece of equipment. When they doubled the prices from $10 to 21 / mo and my work hours changed it no longer made sense to have this membership. But it was great while it lasted!
Fantastic experience: Lots of space for mats and weights. Good equipment, great availability. Friendly and personable service. I would recommend this gym for those who want a nice private workout.
Positive experience: My second year with Hone just started, I like this gym and working out to keep fit. Hone is one of the most affordable, well manage, and equipped gym in Toronto. I have a special thank you to Mr. Sam for supporting the gym members when they have any issue. I want to give credits to the idea of working out and exercising for the younger generation I am seeing in the gym, it is so responsible of them keeping fit , healthy, and away from any other wasted practice you can find out all around the city.
