Negative experience: If I could give zero stars, I would. The service here is absolutely terrible, and the manager (NIDHI) is unbelievably rude and unprofessional. My cousin originally went there just to inquire about membership options, and the manager told her to bring a void cheque so she could “enroll” me. Later, when I went in to cancel, I was told it was a full-year membership — something that was never explained properly to us in the first place. I’ve worked in customer service for over four years, and even when a mistake isn’t mine, I always make sure to apologize and treat people with respect. The manager here did the complete opposite — no apology, no understanding, just attitude. She was full of herself and even went as far as threatening to send my account to collections instead of resolving the issue professionally. To make things worse, I’ve heard from several coworkers that similar situations have happened to them. Clearly, this isn’t a one-time issue. Shapes McPhillips really needs to train their staff on basic customer service skills and honesty. And please, don’t bother replying with the usual “We’re sorry to hear about your experience,” because it’s obvious you don’t actually care. Also, don’t say you “couldn’t find my membership” — I have every detail and proof if needed. Upon reviewing your file and speaking with the club to track down your membership number as you didnt use you actul name in your google review, it appears your membership was set up on September 4, 2024, under our annual membership plan, which included a discounted rate. Month to month and short term options are available as well, but they come at a higher rate and include an enrollment fee. This was all outlined on the membership agreement that you signed at the point of sale.

Throughout the past year, our team made several unsuccessful attempts to contact you regarding your account, and it wasnt until you reached out to us via email August 18, 2025, when it was confirmed you were unsure about the term. At that time, our staff reviewed the cancellation process with you and advised you to go to the gym as soon as you can to cancel, which was only completed on September 26, 2025. Your membership will end on October 26, 2025, and your notice period has already been paid in full.

We understand that misunderstandings can happen, and we regret that your experience didn’t meet expectations. If you’d like to discuss this further, please contact us at [email protected] so we can ensure everything remains clear and resolved.

Negative experience: Worst Experience Ever – Stay Away! This place is a complete scam. I went with four friends to sign up, and the so-called “manager” Nidhi told us we only needed to give one month’s notice to cancel. Based on that, three of them signed up. Guess what? None of them ever went even once because of their schedules, and when they tried to cancel, suddenly there were hidden cancellation policies that were never explained. This is not just a mistake—it’s deliberate. When I mentioned this to others, I found out we weren’t the only ones. Many people have been misled and trapped the same way. It’s clear they lie about policies just to hit their sales targets. On top of that, the customer service is the worst I’ve ever seen. If the so-called “manager” Nidhi can’t be honest or deliver even basic customer service, how can she lead anyone? Save yourself the stress—don’t fall for their tricks.

Fantastic experience: From day one, the support I’ve gotten here has been great. My trainer took the time to show me how to use the machines properly and always checks in on my progress. Negative experience: I’ve been going to this location for a while because it’s the most convenient for me, but I’m really disappointed with the overall cleanliness and member behavior. The gym is often dirty, and many members don’t put away their weights—they just leave plates loaded on bars, making it frustrating for the next person. There’s a clear sign asking people to remove outdoor shoes, yet many ignore it and walk in with dirty footwear, even when staff are present. Another issue is unauthorized guests. I’ve seen members bring in two extra people after hours on multiple occasions, clearly not members, and it’s obvious the rules aren’t being enforced. Hygiene is also a problem: people sweat all over benches and never wipe them down. They also moved the punching bag, which I used often, into a space that’s way too tight for kickboxing. One time, I even hit a trash can and the wall behind me because there wasn’t enough room to move properly. Once, while in the weights area with only a few others around, I caught a foul smell so bad that I almost threw up mid-set. I had to cut my workout short that night. I honestly wish I could go to another location, but this one is the closest. The Pembina location is much cleaner and better maintained in comparison.

Fantastic experience: first time to any gym I have never been to the gym before mostly due to laziness and that I couldn't afford it. I joined up this week and I have only been twice but I can tell you all the staff I have met so far have been so welcoming, encouraging and informative. This was an amazing experience for me considering I had such bad anxiety about joining up. But the staff made the transition all the more smoother and ensured that I was aware that they were always there to support me if I needed it.

Positive experience: Good gym, better than most shapes in Winnipeg. Would give it a 5 star if staff would enforce cleaning more. Everyone, especially after hours doesn’t clean the machines. I’ve brought it up to staff multiple times and they keep saying they’ll put more signs up and enforce it better, but it never happens. Disgusting how adults don’t understand how to sanitize a machine after use

You're absolutely right — it is a requirement for all members to wipe down equipment before and after use, and we fully agree it’s frustrating when that’s not followed. During staffed hours, our team does its best to remind and encourage proper cleaning, but we understand this can become more challenging after hours when members attend at their own risk.

That said, we do conduct random overnight audits, and staff are present at those times to ensure members are taking the proper cleaning supplies and following sanitation expectations. The staff, including the manager Nidhi, are unprofessional and often change their statements. There’s a lack of transparency, especially during the sign-up process—they rush you and verbally agree to everything, but later deny those promises. Because they do get bonuses or they do have some number games according how many people signed up. In my case, I was told by girl at reception I had to stay for four more months, then manager Nidhi said two months, and eventually—after contacting head office—it turned out I had less than one month left on the same day three statements. I’ve been a Shapes member since 2022 and have heard similar experiences from others. It’s concerning that management hasn’t addressed these issues despite ongoing complaints about the staff on mcphillip location. As a financial advisor, I’ve started advising people to be cautious and always get everything in writing from them. I’ve now switched to Snap Fitness, and the difference in staff professionalism and gym environment is refreshing,relaxed, positive. Fee is almost same. Nidhi did mentioned verbally 2 months and am talking about behaviour of staff on mcphillip location. Henderson do have really nice staff. I started mcphillip location in last summer and keep having communication issues because you can’t talk to that staff they are not ready to hear concerns.

We understand this wasn’t the outcome you were hoping for, which is why we offered an additional complimentary hold as a goodwill gesture until you are well enough to return. Our goal is to support our members and help them stay active and satisfied with their experience.

It’s also important to note that, according to the notes on your file, Nidhi was not involved in these recent interactions.

We are still more than willing to support your fitness journey should you wish to continue with us. However, if you choose not to continue, please be advised that cancellations must be submitted in person. Without a formal cancellation, memberships automatically continue on a month-to-month basis once the initial contract term ends.

Negative experience: When I signed up I was forced into taking the PT sessions which I mentioned that I was not interested in taking. I was forced to sign up with them and before the 7 days I went to Nidhi again and told her that I wanted to cancel because I knew they weren’t going to let me cancel. And she didn’t let me cancel then as well even tho I was trying to say over and over it’s not about money it’s just that I don’t want it. But she still kept on insisting and insisting to take a session even tho she knew I had only 1 day to cancel she made my appointment for 2 days later which would’ve gone past the 7 days. She forced me to take these and now I have to pay a huge amount even though I knew I was going to be super busy. My back has been hurting and due to that I can’t work out and after getting a doctor note and telling shapes I can’t do physical activities the options they gave me were that I have to the full amount so I can get a certificate fir later. This is not acceptable and when I responded to the email to express my concerns the person responding saying I will no longer be communicating. Extremely disappointed, please be careful before going with them.

As a paying member, we trust you value the experience and community our facility offers. That same standard of fairness applies to everyone who uses the club — which means your guests are also expected to have a valid membership or approved guest access. Unfortunately, your friend has repeatedly entered the facility by providing false contact information, including fake phone numbers and email addresses, to misuse our one-day guest pass policy.

This occurred on multiple occasions, specifically on May 8, 11, and 20. When approached by management, your friend admitted to knowingly using false details to gain access. While we welcome guests and want everyone to have a chance to experience the club, our guest passes are intended for one-time, genuine use — not to be exploited through dishonest means.

We understand your friend may feel disappointed at being caught, but it’s important to be clear: calling this “poor customer service” is unfair when the issue is a violation of policy, not how they were treated. Our team is simply upholding rules that exist to protect the integrity of our membership and ensure that everyone is treated equally.

Regarding the cancellation and extension: when a hold was placed on your membership, that pause extended the agreement by approximately three months past your original expiry date. However, your fitness coaching sessions continued to be paid during that time and will still conclude on your original expiry date. Negative experience: Customer service was disappointing and inflexible. The contract is confusing—especially the cancellation policy—and feels designed to obscure important details. When I raised concerns, the staff made it personal, as if I was attacking them, rather than addressing legitimate issues in their system. When you visited us earlier, we printed a copy of your membership agreement and cancellation form to walk you through how your membership billing works. As explained during our conversation, your membership is billed in arrears—meaning you are paying for services already received, not for upcoming ones. This has been consistent throughout the duration of your membership.

At the time of your enrollment, there were no charges for the first 16 days. This delayed start in billing explains why your termination date now appears later than expected. We understand that this can be confusing, which is why we spent over an hour reviewing the agreement with you, highlighting the relevant clauses and discussing your concerns thoroughly.

Your cancellation falls mid-billing cycle, which can make the final charges seem out of alignment with service dates. However, the cancellation form you signed outlines the 30-day notice requirement, running from April 30 to May 30. As a gesture of goodwill, we’ve also included an additional 4 days of service at no cost to you.

Regarding the interaction with our team, we take your feedback seriously. Negative experience: I just cancelled my membership that I had for a little over a year due to the amount of locker break-ins and theft attempts. In the year I’ve been a member I’ve had my locker broken into 4 separate times, and multiple failed attempts. I have gone through 3 locks because of it in the 1 year i’ve had a membership. If you like going through a new lock every couple of months, this is the place to be. Ridiculous.

Negative experience: I had a disappointing experience at Shapes Fitness on March 25. My locker was broken into by Shapes staff because a member had forgotten their keys in the locker I was using. The staff indicated they had made 4 announcements over the PA; many members wear headphones while in the facility or are in the group class rooms, yet none of the five staff members present took the initiative to walk around and ask if the locker belonged to anyone before taking such action. To make matters worse, my personal belongings were left exposed, creating an opportunity for theft. When I raised my concerns to staff, I was assured that management would follow up. However, after calling again on March 27, I still have not received any response. This lack of communication and accountability from management is frustrating. I expected better security measures and a more proactive response to such incidents. I hope the gym takes this feedback seriously and improves its approach to customer service and locker security moving forward.

Negative experience: I had a disappointing experience with Nidhi, a consultant at Shapes Gym.I visited the gym to inquire about membership options. Unfortunately, Nidhi is unhelpful and provided incorrect information about the membership plans. I just want to talk regarding contract membership. I signed membership on 13th feb 2025 and after-that i went to front desk after 15 days to cancel my membership with specific reason that i am moving from city due to my personal issue and then she said you can't cancel it if you are in contract. I think you guys have to help your customers if person have some emergency it doesn't make sense he or she have to pay $155/monthly for whole year in contract. If so possible please try to help me out from this issue because $155 is not a small amount of money.

Fantastic experience: This an amazing gym! love the women’s side it’s pretty much the only reason I had picked this gym. It’s very spacious and I love that they have a yoga room and another room for stretching and core workouts. The women’s side had everything you need for a good workout and what’s not there they have lots on the co-ed side as well. They also have a sauna and my favourite part is the hip thrust machine it’s way easier than setting up a bar. The locker rooms are really nice and the staff are very friendly too they are great with working out your concerns! I find the women’s side is never busy which is super amazing. I only had one problem which they were able to work out with me and were super kind about it.

Positive experience: The only reason I’m giving 4 stars is because the Bhangra instructor is great, and the gym itself has good facilities, including a sauna, showers, and nice lockers. Otherwise, my experience with membership modifications has been frustrating. At this location, Bhangra is considered a specialty class, but I couldn’t find this information on their website. I also noticed that other locations in Canada don’t charge extra for Bhangra class, so I’m unsure why this policy was implemented here in this location. Front desk employee wrote all my details and handed me a form listing Hot Yoga / Bhangra / Queenax, which I didn’t even requested. It feels like they misled me into adding extra classes I didn’t ask for. Then, when I tried to cancel within their policy timeframe, I was told they couldn’t process my cancellation. This lack of transparency and policy changes cause unnecessary frustration for members. People join the gym for fitness and relaxation, not to deal with complicated membership issues. I hope this gym has good management and someone from head office reviews my case and reconsiders my membership modification.

Fantastic experience: I like the gym me and my husband has been a shapes member since forever. Today I couldn’t find my car keys after my workout was done . I myself first looked every machine and place so been through my workout and even check the bathrooms . I usually keep it in my bag and I carry my bag with me while I workout coz I have already lost my gym bag last year in regent shapes .so Long story short I came to the counter ask the lady if anyone drop the keys she opened the cabinet and close it says nth here . After that I am looking around asking if she could ask the cleaning staff she did but when I asked her otherwise she was unbothered. And I spent at least 40 wondering around looking for my keys where that staff didn’t bother to ask me twice if I found it or so. I finally didn’t get the keys and ask her I need to make a report she goes oh you have to do it police report we can’t do anything as simple as that and very ignorant . Finally after 40 min there comes another staff and I asked her and she opened the drawer and gives me the keys says someone drop it earlier as soon as you came to the gym, all I am saying is as a staff , you guys don’t communicate ? If someone is on break or going on a break or whatever and there was a customer reporting something so you won’t bother ask to ask when staff comes back if they have seen it heard or anything??? I mean I am sure you have many things to do there which I am not aware of but clearly aren’t you there for customer service And that’s how you do customer service. I couldn’t stand that I asked her could I please talk to you and she thought I was blaming her which I was not I was only trying to ask her how could another staff hand me the keys and you couldn’t ? Clearly first lack or communication between staff and sec you didn’t bother enough to look . She goes “I open the drawer and show you the keys and you said it’s not mine ?” First she didn’t ask she opened and closed saying there’s nth And if she have showed me the keys why tf would I say no to my keys ?? And after she goes it’s the primary member keys drawer whatever if so why would you look into the place where the loss and found stuff don’t belong? Also she goes there are many keys how would I know which is yours “ of course you don’t I understand which is why you show the customer what you got in there and ask if any of the keys here is yours . Or If you take the stuff out clearly and ask the customers which one is yours , customer would help you . I am really not happy about it . And also not only that last week my water got spilled and I came to the front counter right away and ask if she could send someone , same staff for help so no one slides into it she says yes and never in 40-45 min she sent anyone , I finished my workout right in the place hoping someone would come , but no and then since I was done and leaving I didn’t wanted anyone to go to that spot or complain or have bad experiences with water in the floor So I went back again to let her know hey no one came and she sent the cleaner that time . Like rest everything is good except little bit of better customer service would make this gym really better . Again don’t come after saying you’re not the only one coz for sure theres many but not everyone looses their stuff or spill water accidentally daily so may be you can try fixing and help better at that very moment .i forget to ask her name coz i was literally loosing my mind but my man called there and ask for her name and he told me she apologized or smth but didn’t get her name I think she’s the manager there and her name is NIDHI KHATRI .I understand everyone makes mistake no one’s perfect I misplaced my keys which was my fault but expecting help from front counter is obvious in situation like this and of course everyone would expect it better than my experienced with you today and I am sure it can be done and taken care in a better way . Negative experience: I as a long-term member have been asked by several other members to write this review as they are equally struggling with the issues laid out in this review. If there are other members that read this and agree, please like my review or add your own comments of things you've witnessed to help get the message across that we are getting tired of all this nonsense. First off, this is never something I thought I would be writing, EVER. This gym has been a 2nd home to me and my friends/acquaintances and was a real community of people that were proud fitness enthusiasts, and proud to be members of this club. To see the state of things now saddens me to no end. This used to be a wonderful gym/club. While the equipment is still decent and the staff are nice, there has been a huge decline in the quality of the members. Let me elaborate: I want to begin by saying this is in no way the fault of the cleaning staff. They are there to do a job in a limited timeframe and these new issues only add to their job while not getting any more time to do it. A good number of these "new members" have zero respect for the other members or the staff. To the point that there are signs in the locker room that say to “not disrespect the cleaning staff”. On any given day when I go into the locker room, the cloths for wiping down the equipment and the corresponding spray bottles that are supposed to be returned to the front after your workout are strewn about the locker room. No, I don't mean neatly piled up on a counter, I mean they have literally been thrown on the ground, in a locker, under a bench or in the shower drain. Another issue that the front desk people are failing to enforce is taking off your shoes before entering the building. There are clear signs that say “No Outdoor Footwear”, but these people take this as a suggestion, and again, the door staff DO NOTHING to enforce this. This makes for a disgusting front entrance and wet tracks (which will soon be snow) going from the front door to the locker room and all over the gym floor. For the people following the rules, this makes for getting your socks soaked on the way to the locker room if you’re not paying attention. Recently with the fresh snow, there is not one place to step that isn’t soaked. This makes it so the cleaning staff is constantly chasing these areas with a mop, taking away from the jobs they should be doing. On the topic of filth, the sauna recently had the boards replaced and it was brand new. It has only been a few months and the boards on the floor are completely black. There is one new Canadian that likes to lay down and put his feet up on the wall. There are 2 black spots on the wall where he puts them. It clearly states “You must shower before using the sauna”. This is only a small number of infractions that have taken place as we have also seen, public urination (tanning room and sauna), not racking weights, using 5-6 sets of dumbbells between 2 people during peak hours, smashed shower heads/faucets, garbage in the shower drain...I could go on and on and on. And all of these things/events have only been happening within the last 2-3 years. There has always been a few ne'er-do-wells, and the odd incident, but the state of things now is abysmal. Clearly the owners are just rolling in their new found wealth from the massive influx of new members and couldn’t give a $hit about it’s longstanding, loyal members. Get some proper people working the front desk that enforce the rules, and have real consequences for people who violate them. I have NEVER in my 20 years of attending this gym seen such abhorrent and blatant disrespect for the members, the staff, and the facility. The staff are suffering, the facility is deteriorating, and the members have had enough!!! If the owner reads this, I would love to sit down and talk to you about ways to resolve these issues.

Negative experience: SHAPES MCPHILLIPS HAS TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND POOR MANAGEMENT I am placing a formal complaint about not receiving my key fob that I had purchased back in January 30, 2020. At the time of purchase, the associate I spoke with said my key fob would be ready within 7 business days and that I would have to pick up my key fob during regular business hours. When I came to pick up my key fob late February of 2020, the associate I spoke with said that they hadn’t placed an order yet for my key fob. Come March 2020 before the global pandemic shut down all businesses, I still haven’t received my key fob. I am confused how there can be any miscommunication after I had purchased a new key fob. I had explained that I lost my key fob and needed to purchase a new one. I do not understand how the key fob wasn’t immediately ordered once I had paid for it. And I do not understand why management blamed me for their mistake. I have never heard of business that blatantly required their customer to place an order for a product/service that they already requested and paid for. My time is very valuable, and for that reason I chose Shapes for the 24/7 convenience. That being said it was very hard for me to make arrangements in my schedule to visit Shapes during regular working hours AND I am frustrated to have not receive the product and services your establishment offers. In addition to that I had made 3 visits and numerous phone calls, and despite that management has made no actions to resolve, compensate, or even provide services that I had paid for. It is now 2021 and the problem still has not been resolved. I should be compensated for my wasted time, efforts, money, membership inactivity and travel accommodation for the inconvenience I endured and dealing poor customer service and incompetent management at your McPhillips facility. THE ISSUE WAS NEVER RESOLVED AND WAS SIMPLY JUST BRUSHED OFF.

Hi Fernand,Key fobs are available for same day pick up at the gym - once it's paid for, you are given a key fob same day and it is activated same day as we do understand time is our members most valuable asset. Your concern was brought to our attention and addressed in less than 24 hours as it looks as though you received your fob already and your services are now available to you.Please note that we cannot control when key fobs don't work - such as when your account was suspended in 2019, and again put on hold in 2021 and 2021, this would require reactivation on your part and not Shapes during staffed hours.Happy that we were able to resolve the issue and miscommunication for you.

Negative experience: ZERO STARS - AVOID this place. The staff do not enforce their own policies. Weights are never racked (and no signage). Floors are soaked in snow/slush in winter. The men's changeroom has a theft problem. The Manger does not care -- I complained several times over the past 24 months and nothing ever happens. Cancelled last week - good riddance .

Since I am unable to look you up in the system, I can only answer with the basic knowledge that we have and last week the club was messier than usual as we received a shipment of new equipment. At that time the new treadmills were being built as the deadlift platforms, plates and accessories were stored in the Queenax area, which members left that equipment around the facilities. The new area opened up early yesterday afternoon and equipment has since then been cleaned up and put in place. We have scheduled floor cleaning/ gym runs 2x a day (will add more as needed) which will be run by our personal trainers. The purpose of these 45 minute blocks is to ensure that things are put away through the day to provide the members with a better experience with easy access to the equipment. Negative experience: I been trying to cancel my membership for past few months i don't live in wpg anymore last time i was there i signed some paperwork to cancel but i got charged again when i asked i was told that i freeze my membership not cancelled it so i sent a written letter cause i was told to its been few weeks and i am still getting charged. Fantastic experience: Joined the gym almost a month ago and the experience has been great so far. My only concern about the gym was if they have free weights for exercises and they do. Staff is excellent and Nidhi is the best. She enrolled me in and her radiant personality is awesome. Gym is very spacious and feels fresh all the time. Great staff and great equipment, really love it here.

Negative experience: worst customer service experience i have ever had…..i took a membership for this gym and it was contract for 1 year but in the first 7 days we cancel it …so i went to gym on 5 day to cancel it by they said the person who enrolled you can only cancel it and that agent whose name is nidhi was not there on that day….so now when i am saying to them to cancel it they told me that they can not cancel but can change it to month to month. Then i paid my enrollment fees still they said they cannot cancel it. Worst Customer service experience ever

Negative experience: Some staffs are very nice but there was one lady (i wish i could've seen her name but) at the time they were offering a "bring a buddy" for consecutive week to try Shapes for free. They gave out stamp cards. FYI I was a member for a year at this time. Anyway, it was winter and there was a strong blizzard so there was only about 3 people at the gym plus this staff. I've been bringing my boyfriend. It was our 3rd day and we were excited to go to the gym. We got there and realized we forgot the stamp card. We were explained we forgot the stamp. Wasn't even trying to sneak in etc. and that I am a member and we've been coming, etc. She was straight off the bat just rude to us. Had no empathy whatsoever about us driving in slippery road with blizzard and didn't even bother taking into account that i've been a member for a year! She didn't even offer other suggestions like paying a walk in etc. she was basically just pushing us away. I didn't go back after that and canceled my membership that following week. I tried to make a complaint to a different person too and she didn't even care. The whole time I wasn't even making a scene whatsoever. I just wanted to give them feedback about my experience. I was trying to communicate maturely but no one responded well. This gym was disorganized anyway Idk if it's the members or the staffs but the only thing i liked about it was that it had a female section but even then staffs didn't seem to be impressed working there

Negative experience: EDITED JULY 30 Another cover up lie that Christina and AURA mention below!! THERE IS NO STAFF EARLY AS THEY MENTION RESUMED BACK TO REGULAR SHIFT "As we mentioned to you, we are staffing the club earlier as we care about our members safety and are doing our best to rectify the situation. " Just reading the comments about the fight that took place. Seems like AURA likes to make up false stories that staff was present which is in fact a lie. AURA also says these people all had memberships to cover up what happened. One person that comes to gym knows 2 of them and they have tried doing this at other gyms but have been not let in. Aura has been asking people what happened as there was no one staffed as I was there. We see this morning they have someone there at 5am (for only a few days) and then they will resume to their regular shift to save money. Nice cover up shapes.. Do the right thing for the members and up your game if you want to keep members and as previous person said keep us safe and be a nice worker and not lie. There is more on reddit about how shapes treats members and their staff and their rotational quiting staff that find out why they ever worked there.

Good morning Alvro,We recieved your editied response as well as the accusations you are making based on what you assumed had happened. This has been dealt with by Shapes and the Winnipeg police and the members (as those accused of using the club while not being members ALL had membership numbers) and the MEMBERS decided not to proceed with charges.The personal training supervisor was on site. He was in the footage that was provided to the Winnipeg Police, talking to the members that were involced, including the member that instigated the incident. So yes, no lies, no making up stories and no fishing around for the truth. Our calls to the members involved was to see if they were okay and how they would like to proceed. On Saturday July 20th, management received a phone call from the Winnipeg Police that the members involved will not be proceeding with charges. As we mentioned to you, we are staffing the club earlier as we care about our members safety and are doing our best to rectify the situation. We also mentioned that our family plans have the same number for 4 people. This has nothing to do with saving money. In the week that we started the staff early, all members that were being accused of "sneaking in" were members. We do have family plan agreements, should you wish to learn how those work, please let us know and we would be happy to explain those to you. Should you wish to discuss this again, we would welcome another call and follow up email. We have taken immediate action and now consider your review based on the incidents that happened as slander.

Negative experience: Shapes is worst gym. Don’t take membership from this gym. One of my friend took membership from them and she want to cancel it within seven days but they did not cancel it. She changed her policy from one year agreement to monthly still they did not cancel her membership. Shapes is a trap. Worst gym ever.

Out of 7 days, which is what happened to your friend, no changes scan be made but an exception was made to downgrade to a month to month membership which requires a 30 days notice to terminate! Negative experience: This place is going downhill. Recently 2 actual fights 1 because groups of people are sneaking in early morning and they care more about not having payed staff on duty vs peoples safety. Also people going into locker rooms looking for an opportunity to steal as 1 has been caught however by a gym member. It's not our job to feel safe in the gym as someone will get hurt!! Staff don't come in on time and if your paying for services like towel service or tanning your out of luck. Place is not clean however they rely on us to wipe everything down and many times with empty paper towels dispenser. They have issues with staff coming in on time and rude front desk person during the week. They really need to re-evalute their operations instead of trying to cover up with lame reasons.

Hi Mandeep,In discussing with the staff, we reviewed your family agreement that you signed in May 2024. All family plans you pay for 2 adult memberships and get 2 for free, to get such a significant discount you would need to sign an annual agreemnet which was outlined on the contract that you signed when you enrolled with the manager.When you came in yesterday to cancel the membership agreement, you were infomred that you couldcancel but payments for the agreement would resume until May 2025.Managment will be sending you another copy of your agreement shorty to review the options outlined.

Negative experience: I was moving out of the city and needed to cancel my membership. The snobby girl at the desk told me I can call to cancel on the day my contract was over, which was days after I moved out of the province. Come to find out cancellations were only allowed via mail. A few months went by and the main office told me they never received my letter. It was 5.5 months of them taking my money even though it was their employee that told me I can cancel by making a phone call. After going through the bank to reject the last payment, shapes continued to harass me threatening to put $16.99 into collections. Horrible customer service

Negative experience: I'm not normally one to leave bad reviews...this is actually my first time so its kind of long, bare with me haha. I called Shapes when I found out about a promotional price to sign up for a year. I called to see if the group classes were included in the promotional price and the person on the phone told me all of them, but the hot yoga classes are included, so I went in and signed up. This was the main reason I signed up because I'm not great at working out on my own. So I went to a few classes a week for about 3 weeks without any problems. Its worth mentioning that when I went to these classes, I would give them my membership number when I walked in, they would ask me if I was there for a class or to workout, and I would tell them...so its not like I was sneaking into spin/power classes or anything. They have an app that you sign up for classes and workouts on and there isn't any kind of function that stops you from signing up for classes if you're not supposed to attend them. So, I didn't know I was utilizing something I wasn't supposed to be. After the three weeks had passed, I went in for a class and the person working the front counter told me my membership didn't include classes and I would have to pay an extra fee per month to attend them I told her that when I signed up, I was told about the classes being included, she was kind of rude and said "I was the one that signed you up" like she was catching me in some sort of lie. But I told her I was informed of this on the phone before coming in and that's why I signed up. I wasn't rude to her about it or anything, I've worked in customer service and understand how aggravating it can be. She said something along the lines of "you can talk to a manager but they will tell you the exact same thing". I'm not sure why I was getting that kind of attitude but whatever, maybe she was having a bad day but she was pretty condescending throughout the whole encounter. The facilities aren't anything better than Fit4Less or Planet Fitness so I figured if I can't use the classes, it's not worth paying more to go here rather than a budget gym, so I asked if I could cancel. She informed me that since it has been more than 7 days, I'm locked in for year. It seems unusual that they would let me go to those classes for a few weeks, then tell me that. If I only had 7 days to cancel, then why would they have let me go to those classes for that long without telling me? It also doesn't say anywhere on my contract what all is included in my membership.... Long story short, the facilities are alright..but there are other gyms that are just as good and cost less. Rude staff, and it was shady how they allowed me to attend classes that weren't apart of my membership for long enough to pass the cancellation period, so they could get me to pay more for them. I'm agreeing to pay the extra class amount, because the base price for just using the equipment isn't worth the price and I'm bound to them for the year. It's also cheaper than paying out the contract. However, I won't be renewing after a year because I'm not a fan of their business practices and I didn't like how I was treated by the staff about it. Update: I spoke with manager who was very nice and offered me a reduced price. She also told me that the staff member I spoke with is new and inexperienced.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been a member at shapes since 2014. In the past 10 years, I can guarantee that this is Winnipeg’s Top Tier fitness center. Kevin Richardson and his fellow associates are highly knowledgeable and experienced fitness experts that will go above and beyond to help you meet your goals. Nidhi was also a pleasure to work with in helping me process my latest transition into a new contract this year. The price is right, The facility is well taken care of, Members have great accommodations, and the staff are phenomenal.

If a lock is left on over night, our policy is to mark the door with a sticky note, if that note remains on the same lock the next day, it is cut and your items will be stored at the front desk until you pick up. Negative experience: Small and cramped, not the cleanest gym around. On top of that, they are just yet another commercial gym that will continue to charge you after canceling your membership with excuse after excuse. I explained a medical condition that didn't allow me to continue using the gym, and while I am within the rights of my membership agreement to cancel at this point, they've continue to charge me. Still the same company as theu were 10 years ago taking advantage of their member base. Avoid if you can.

I just advise to all of you here for reviews DONT GET MEMBERSHIP here, its almost impossible to cancel it. My wife just signed up online for me and they are saying nw that you are in contract with us ( without even any single signature) for one year if you have to cancel it you have to give 26 installments. It is kind of trap. Worst gym ever.

Positive experience: The area where you take your outdoor shoes off. Need to put on clean shoes right away because it’s all wet and dirty. Walked in socks to change room it was wet and dirty all the way there. Foot prints wet/sand. I guess lots of people don’t take their shoes off.
