Sweat and Tonic: Opinions
Fantastic experience: the facilities are top notch! highly recommend
Positive experience: I really like the instructors at this gym and I am grateful for the access so thank you S+T… BUT I use to work for a company that would deliberately charge customers extra and only refunded them immediately if the customer notices, can we not normalize this practice? So a late cancellation = fee and + no show = fee? Double charged? And I must monitor my payments to complain for a refund at the front desk in person is a tactic that we really need to abolished like yesterday …
Fantastic experience: With Sweat and Tonic a few months now, and I love the experience, the classes, the instructors and the energy here. Always sweating a lot after class, and I can feel my body changes, stronger than before.
Fantastic experience: My favourite workout in the city! Great instructors & an array of awesome classes!
Thank you for your kind review, Alina!
Positive experience: Love S&T class variety and amount of classes available. The front and back of house are so lovely and instructors are amazing.
Fantastic experience: This place is like my second home. I've been coming to this location for years now but the morning team are so wonderful. Jasmine and Mario especially are so helpful. Jasmine always has such a bright smile on her face which is difficult to do all day especially at 6am. I couldn't recommend this place enough for a solid workout. The hot room gets extremely hot which I love and the mat pilates classes are the best. Also, shoutout to CJ from the cleaning team. He's always so friendly!
Thank you for your kind review, Elaine! We look forward to sweating with you again soon!
Negative experience: I have been a loyal member of Sweat and Tonic for a long time, paying hundreds of dollars each month and attending many classes. Unfortunately, my experience with how the studio handles no-show fees has been consistently disappointing. Most recently, I checked in for a class but had to leave immediately because I was feeling unwell. Despite the fact that I was present, I was charged for a no-show, not once but twice. The reason I did not approach staff at that moment is because of a previous experience where I was very sick and even losing my voice, yet the employee I spoke to showed no understanding or flexibility. After that, I felt there was no point in trying to explain my situation again. I fully understand the need for policies to manage attendance. However, a no-show fee is meant to discourage people from taking up spots in class and never showing up. In my case, I did show up, I checked in, and I left to avoid making myself worse or spreading illness to others. Punishing someone for choosing not to endanger their health or the health of fellow members does not align with the values of a wellness studio. This is not the first time I have been charged incorrectly. On multiple occasions I have been billed for no-shows even though I was present. By now, you would expect a premium studio to acknowledge the repeated mistakes and make a gesture of goodwill. Instead, it feels like policy is being used as a shield, even when it clearly does not apply. Health and wellness should be about supporting people in making the right decisions for their bodies and for the community. For a brand that promotes itself as premium and wellness-focused, showing empathy in these situations should be the bare minimum. Customers deserve fairness, accountability, and understanding, especially when they are loyal and consistent members. At this point, the only reasonable outcome is to have these wrongful charges reimbursed and for Sweat and Tonic to revisit how these policies are applied so they align with the values of wellness the brand claims to stand for.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely love Justin’s classes!!
Hi Deeksha, thank you for your review! We look forward to seeing you in class again soon!
Fantastic experience: I love the classes and the amenities at S&T! I've tried their spin classes, hot pilates and kick boxing classes and everything I've tried has been a great workout and tons of fun. The instructors are great, the atmosphere is motivating and the smoothies are delicious!
Hi Maddy, thank you for your kind review! We look forward to seeing you in class again soon!
Negative experience: Overpriced for the quality of the classes. The rooms are dark and crowded and the instructors do not seem interested in engaging with students (in terms of giving feedback during class, or showing how to properly do things to avoid injury). It's clearly a vibe that some are looking for, but I do not think it's worth it - you can get better classes elsewhere.
Fantastic experience: Amazing
Fantastic experience: Blair and Jess at Sweat & Tonic are incredible! Blair is my go-to for hot Pilates. Her classes are perfectly balanced - challenging, grounding, and always set to an incredible playlist. She’s so knowledgeable, kind, and really creates a welcoming space where you feel empowered and supported. Jess’s spin classes are truly the best - her energy is contagious, her playlists are so fun, and she always knows how to lift me up! She makes every ride feel like a party and a personal victory all in one. Couldn’t recommend these two women enough. If you're looking for inspiration, strength, and a killer workout, they’ve got you covered!
Keep that amazing energy, Holly! Thank you for taking the time to share such a kind review. Sweat soon!
Fantastic experience: My first ever yoga class – and it was absolutely incredible! It was a hot yoga session, so the room was very warm, which added an extra level of intensity and focus. The instructor explained everything very clearly, making it easy to follow along even as a complete beginner. I really appreciated that there were options to modify the poses for those who are not yet able to do certain movements – that made me feel comfortable and supported. I left the class feeling completely amazed and inspired. Huge thanks to the instructor!
Fantastic experience: Great introduction to Pilates for a first timer. Stella A made all the moves accessible with variations to make it a welcoming environment for all levels of fitness. Will be regularly joining her class. Amazing start to a Sunday morning!
Thank you for your kind review, Aaryaa!
Fantastic experience: I have been attending Sweat & Tonic for the past year and it’s always an amazing experience, I typically purchase single credits and it’s 100% worth the money. You get a great atmosphere for not only fitness, but also for coffee chats or even studying with their Tonic Bar. There are tons of amenities, such as showers including body wash, shampoo, conditioner, lotion(all vegan as well), and Dyson hair dryers. My personal favourite classes are hot classes, and they come with complimentary cold essential oil towels to wipe off after. I have been to both locations and love both, if you need a little fitness pick-me-up, definitely check it out!
Fantastic experience: I absolutely love Sweat and Tonic! The space is beautiful, clean, and full of good energy the moment you walk in. The staff are super welcoming and always ready to help, whether you’re new to a class or a regular. I’ve tried hot mat Pilates, and the instructor brings amazing energy while also making sure form and safety are a priority. The facilities are top-notch — lockers, showers, and little extras that make the experience feel luxurious. Every visit leaves me feeling energized, challenged, and happy. Highly recommend to anyone looking for great workouts in a gorgeous space!
Fantastic experience: My favourite place to visit in the city. Have had the best experience. The studio is always friendly, energetic, and clean. I have made some great friends by coming classes regularly and recommend it to everyone.
Fantastic experience: This S&T location is my go-to spot- the perfect location, class times, and vibe. I purely do spin classes here so I have not had the pleasure of trying their other offerings, but their beat rides are always full of energy and one of the only forms of exercise I enjoy. I will say it gets a bit hectic sometimes - come early if it’s your first time!
Fantastic experience: I love going to S&T! I primarily go to the spin classes. You get a good bang for your buck because you just know you'll leave that room sweating haha. I would say it's worth it for those who would like to introduce more exercise into their schedule and for those who like to be pampered! My favourite instructor so far has been Rae Crumb, her taste in music is perfect to pass the time and i love her energy :)
Fantastic experience: My husband and I absolutely love Sweat and Tonic! The space is beautiful, clean, and thoughtfully designed. The staff is always incredibly kind and helpful, making us feel welcome every time we walk in. We’re also big fans of the smoothie bar — such a great post-workout treat! The booking system is super efficient and everything always runs smoothly. It’s a perfect mix of great vibes, convenience, and quality. Highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: Great space for my hot yoga. Clean and well prepared instructors.
Fantastic experience: Workouts are really good planned. Dustin is such a good instructor, his main goal is that people learn how to move properly while they have fun!
Fantastic experience: While nursing an injury, I decided to sign up for Naomi's Candlelight Hot Yin this afternoon. She provided the class with so many options which made me feel safe during my practice. She is also very good at providing instructions. The music nerd in me loved the instrumentals. If I didn't have to work during the day, the mid-day hot yin would be a staple time slot for me as there are less people in the room.
Fantastic experience: Great atmosphere and the classes are fun!
Fantastic experience: I attended a Spice Girl Beat Ride with Sophia Mcnolty and listening to the all of the music from my preteens and early teens made the ride so enjoyable and Sophia was so helpful when I got stuck in the pedals.
Fantastic experience: One of the best yoga studios I have visited in Toronto, with the kindest and most welcoming staff.
Fantastic experience: I absolutely love Sweat and Tonic! The environment is incredible – everything feels so thoughtfully designed, comfortable, and well-made. It’s truly a space where you actually look forward to working out. A special shoutout to Rachel, whose yoga classes are amazing, and Bianca, who brings so much energy and motivation to the HIIT sessions. They both make such a big difference in the experience. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a premium fitness studio!
Fantastic experience: I found, and fell in love with Sweat and Tonic through Class Pass and am now a regular. Their classes are high-energy and amazing and the teachers are incredible. Event spent my birthday morning in a Quinn class :)
Fantastic experience: Fun classes with lots of great music options!
Fantastic experience: Great Studio, fun and challenging classes for enthusiasts and fans of spin cycles, hot Yoga, Pilates and more. Staff is friendly and attentive, facilities are clean and welcoming. The changeroom in particular is always in stellar condition and the rainfall showers and bath products provide the luxury I am expecting for the price of membership. The cherry on the top of this sundae is the Tonic bar, which provides coffee and healthy treats on par with the best boutique coffee shops in the city!
Fantastic experience: Absolutely everything ! Hot classes Valerie Jaqui Spin class Jessica Hit class Dustin hard core !!! Boxing coach Baylee This is the detox for me try it everyone added and changing my life physically and mentally it's all on us !!!!
Thank you for your kind review Shantel, looking forward to having you back in the studio!
Fantastic experience: I just wanna say Jessica Pordel is AMAZING! Her energy and vibes are immaculate and she is genuinely such a sweet soul. Her playlist is always fire and I try to take her classes as much as I can. She makes everyone feel welcome.
Hi Angel! Thank you so much for your kind review, we look forward to seeing you in the studio again soon!
Fantastic experience: Great facility great classes
Fantastic experience: Dustin used a workout to beat my ass like I owed him money... and I loved it. On Tuesdays at 7:40pm -8:30pm my body belongs to Dustin. Argue with your mom.❤️
We appreciate you showing up and bringing that energy, Latoye! Dustin’s classes are all about pushing limits, and it’s clear you understood the assignment. Tuesdays at 7:40pm? Locked in. Let’s keep it going!
Fantastic experience: Amazing class with Natalie!! Just WOW
Love to hear it, Kenza! Natalie always brings the heat - so glad you had an amazing class. Can’t wait to have you back in the studio for more!
Negative experience: I’ve been a member since late 2023 and I asked them recently to allow me to have a 3 week pause as I have a knee injury and I’m going on vacation for 2 weeks. They have refused my request and stated some policy as if it is a government issued policy that no one can change. This is the second time I have asked them for a pause since I became member in 2023 and they couldn’t accommodate me so I asked to cancel my membership. It’s been 4 days since I made that request and they stopped responding to my emails asking for a confirmation on the cancellation. It’s ridiculous! I never thought that they would be so rude to their loyal members but it’s obvious that they don’t care! I agree with the other comments, the facilities are mediocre but the instructors are stars and they run the show!
Hi Yasmeen, our freeze policy is standard for all guests - in keeping with the policy, we offered to freeze your membership for the first two weeks and that you could acquire a medical note in the meantime. We are able to accommodate longer freezes for other situations such as a pregnancy or injuries with a medical note, however you opted to cancel your membership. Your previous email sent to us on June 17 was responded to on June 19 and we apologize for any delay in response. We are here for you should you have any other questions or concerns.
Fantastic experience: Instructor was nice and the studio is great.
Thanks so much for the kind words, CJ! We’re glad you enjoyed the studio and that our instructor made a great impression. We’d love to see you back for another sweat session soon- there’s always more good vibes waiting for you here!
Fantastic experience: Had an amazing first experience at Sweat and Tonic! Kiara was exceptional in guiding me through everything. Can’t wait to go back!
We’re so glad your first visit to Sweat and Tonic was such a great one, Ibukun! Our team is all about creating a smooth, welcoming experience from the moment you walk in - so it’s amamzing to hear Kiara helped set the tone. Can’t wait to see you back in the studio soon!
Fantastic experience: I had such a great experience at Sweat and Tonic at the Yonge & Shuter location. It was my first time, and Kiara went above and beyond, she showed me around, made sure I got to the right class, and even checked in with me afterward to see how it went. That extra care made such a difference. The class itself was amazing, and the whole vibe was super welcoming. Can’t wait to come back!
We're so happy to hear your first visit to our Yonge & Shuter location was such a positive one, Renee! Creating a space where you feel seen, supported, and energized is what we're all about - and Kiara embodies that perfectly. From the personal welcome to the follow-up care, we're glad it made a difference. Can’t wait to have you back in the space soon - this is just the beginning!
Fantastic experience: I had a great time at the Yoga/Pilates class on Sunday, the instructor was simply amazing. I will definitely be coming back and signing up for more classes, all thanks to Kiara who not only guided me to my class but also took her time to explain different subscriptions, to know which suits my schedule best.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience, Adesina! We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed Sunday's class - it’s always special when the energy in the room just clicks. Big shoutout to Kiara for going the extra mile to support you, both in and out of class. We're so glad she helped you find the right fit for your schedule. Can’t wait to have you back on the mat soon!
Fantastic experience: Yesterday was my first time at this gym—and also my very first spin class—and I couldn't have chosen a better place! The ambiance is energetic, the equipment is high-quality, and the whole experience felt welcoming from the moment I arrived. Even though I got there right on time, Kiara went above and beyond to help me find the right shoes quickly and guided me through the entire process with patience and enthusiasm. It made such a difference as a first-timer. Thank you, Kiara, for making my experience so positive! (:
Hi Jessica, we’re so glad your first-ever spin class brought you through our doors. From the high vibes to the high-performance gear, our goal is to make every experience feel seamless and empowering - especially for first-timers. Kiara is a true gem, and we’re so happy she made you feel right at home. Can’t wait to welcome you back to the studio soon - your journey’s just getting started.
Fantastic experience: I looooove this place and Erika’s classes are the best!
Hi Tiana, thank you so much for your review! We might be a little biased, but we totally agree - Erika brings incredible energy. We can’t wait to have you back in class soon!
Negative experience: Terrible experience. Constant extra fees (even for being seconds late), unfair no-show charges I had to dispute with security footage, and rude staff. Amenities like the sauna are often broken. Not worth the hassle.
Fantastic experience: Loving Sweat & Tonic! First time taking spin classes and it's super fun, the instructors were great and the live dj was amazing!!
Fantastic experience: Helena was sweet and had a great workout while visiting town on a business trip.
Fantastic experience: Classes with Javier are the best!
Thank you for your kind review Nicole, looking forward to having you back in the studio for another fuego class with Javier!
Fantastic experience: The only thing better than the space is the instructors.
Thanks so much for the review, Jeffrey! We might be biased, but we completely agree - our instructors are the best. Can’t wait to have you back in class and sweating with us again soon!
Fantastic experience: Signing up for a S&T membership was one of the best decisions I made recently for my mental and physical health! All the classes are guided by super professional and passionate coaches such as Javier, Blake, Naomi and the others, all the staff is friendly and accommodating. If you’re still debating whether to join or not, just do it!
Thank you so much for the love, Julia! We’re thrilled to hear that becoming a member has been such a game-changer for your mental and physical wellness. Big shoutout to Javier, Blake, Naomi, and the rest of our incredible coaching team - they bring the energy every time! We’re so glad you’re feeling the vibe and are part of the S&T Sweat Fam. Can’t wait to see you back in the studio soon!
Fantastic experience: Just attended beat ride with Javier. ¡Muy caliente!
Thanks so much for the great review, Max! We couldn’t agree more, Javier brings that fuego energy every time. Can’t wait to see you back in the studio soon!
Fantastic experience: Gorgeous facility. Jordan’s cycling class is so much fun. 10/10 recommend
Thank you so much for the kind words, Alexa! We're so glad you enjoyed the facility- our team works hard to keep it sparkling, and it's always great to hear that it shows. We're also thrilled you had a blast in spin class- Jordan brings the energy every time. We can’t wait to have you back for your next ride!
Negative experience: My experience at SWEAT and Tonic has been consistently underwhelming. Classes are routinely overbooked, leading to overcrowded studios and a lack of available lockers. The space feels chaotic rather than calming, which undermines the purpose of attending a wellness class. Furthermore, the atmosphere often feels cold and disconnected — participants appear more focused on avoiding one another than engaging in a shared practice. For a place that markets itself as a premium wellness destination, it falls short in both comfort and community. I would not recommend this location.
Fantastic experience: Javier is absolutely amazing! His energy is contagious, and he makes every class—whether it’s shadow boxing or spin—so much fun. He’s incredibly encouraging and always takes the time to help everyone feel confident and strong. I’ve learned so much from him already, and I can’t wait to try boxing and anything else he brings to the schedule!
Thank you so much for the kind words! We’re thrilled to hear how much you’re enjoying classes with Javier- he truly brings unmatched, fuego energy and passion to everything he does. It’s amazing to know you’re feeling confident, strong, and inspired through his coaching. We can’t wait to see you in boxing (and beyond!) as you continue your fitness journey with us! Thanks for being in our Sweat Fam.
Negative experience: Classes way too crowded, a safety hazard.
Fantastic experience: Unreal Spot. Smoothies are a bit expensive but the spin classes are great!
We're so happy to hear you're loving our spin classes, Joshua! At the Tonic Bar, we use only the freshest, healthiest ingredients- because you deserve to refuel with the very best after every sweat session. Thanks for being part of our Sweat Fam!
Fantastic experience: I had such a great experience at this studio! I took a cycling class and it was amazing — super dynamic, high energy, and the music was on point. After class, I grabbed a protein smoothie from the snack bar and was impressed by how quick the service was. The smoothie itself was delicious and felt really fresh. I also want to give a special shoutout to Kiara at the front desk. She has such a warm and welcoming energy — she made me feel right at home as soon as I walked in. She answered all my questions with kindness and gave me a great recommendation for the class. I’ll definitely be coming back. Loved the vibe here!
Thank you for your kind review! We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed the spin class and the energetic vibe it brings. We're so glad you loved the smoothie- we take great pride in serving the freshest and healthiest ingredients at our Tonic Bar, and we always strive to keep the service efficient.
We’ll be sure to pass along your kind words to Kiara; we're so happy she made you feel at home. We can’t wait to welcome you back for another high energy class!
Fantastic experience: Love the spin classes ..all of the instructors are motivated and inspiring.
Thank you for your review, Tony! We look forward to sweating with you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Fabulous! Best spin class I have ever done! ✨
Thank you for your review, CJ! I know we're biased, but we truly feel our spin classes are out of this world - the lights, music, and instructors create such an amazing vibe. We look forward to seeing you at your next spin class!
Fantastic experience: I am a regular at Sweat + Tonic at Yonge and Shuter in Toronto, attending classes most days and participating in a variety of classes including Beat Ride/Spin Cycling, Lift HIIT Strength classes, as well as various Yoga and Pilates classes. The staff at Sweat + Tonic are incredibly welcoming, creating a friendly and inclusive environment that makes every visit an absolute pleasure. The instructors are truly the best you will find in any gym, anywhere. Their expertise, energy, professionalim and dedication to helping you reach your fitness goals are unmatched. I cannot recommend Sweat + Tonic enough for anyone looking for a diverse and exceptional fitness experience in Toronto.
Thank you for your kind review, Paul! We love having committed members like yourself as part of our Sweat Fam. Your roster of classes- Beat Ride/Spin Cycling, Lift HIIT Strength, Yoga, and Pilates- is seriously impressive, and it’s amazing to see you taking full advantage of what we offer. We strive to create unforgettable, energizing experiences for our community. Can’t wait to see you in class again soon!
Fantastic experience: Absolutely loved the HIIT class with Blair. She makes the environment so supportive, welcoming, & motivating! 10/10 recommend. Will be back.
Negative experience: This is hard to post but… I will say that a few instructors are some of the best in the city! And the look of the facilities are wonderful but I am constantly disappointed and concerned for the cleanliness of this space. I was an active unlimited member from April to September of 2024 and then I found real human faeces on a towel.. after reporting my concerns I was given a whole $25 credit. I have returned this month because I missed the instructors a lot but on top of the cleanliness still not being great (mouldy showers) really dirty saunas with me finding a screw in one another down fall I have to say is the app and as people have mentioned the double chargers. I have been 2 times charged for late or cancellation fees of classes I have checked into to the point where honestly I leave the bank account that’s attached to this membership empty sometimes because I know they will charge me. When I returned this spring they charged me twice for my card. I did get a refund but I had to ask. As someone who has worked in luxury services such as cricket/ country clubs this kind of service is not to be expected for the price your paying a month. I really wanted this experience with sweat and tonic to be better because of some great instructors but I will have to think twice about if I buy this after my work trip or if I switch to equinox Attached are pictures of the poop towel I was given One class credit for in the fall and the screw in the-small sauna.
Fantastic experience: The staff members at this location are so kind! My boyfriend and I had a class booked but thanks to the TTC + DT traffic, we wouldn't have made it in time. The staff handled it with empathy and understanding. We'll definitely be back!
Negative experience: ⸻ This is not my first time attending a class at Sweat and Tonic, but unfortunately, it was the most disappointing experience I’ve had so far. I had a very difficult time breathing during the class, which was especially challenging because I have a high sensitivity to smell—particularly in hot yoga or Pilates environments. The person next to me had a very strong and unpleasant odor, which made it nearly impossible to concentrate or enjoy the session. After class, I checked with the front desk and was told that switching spots during class isn’t allowed. I understand that situations like this can happen occasionally, but in this case, I truly didn’t know how to handle it. And probably will not comeback. In addition, the mats are placed extremely close to each other—the space between participants feels very tight. Given how many people attend these classes, and the fact that it’s a premium-priced studio, I hope the management might consider offering more space between mats, or at least building in some flexibility when someone is clearly uncomfortable
Hi Jackie, we're sorry to see you had a negative experience with another guest. Once studio doors close, you are free to move to another spot to suit your comfort as long as there are empty spaces. Our team members check attendance prior to the start of class to ensure those that have checked in are indeed in attendance, and may discourage moving spots at that time. However, as long as there are empty spots available, you can feel free to do so once doors close, or one of our team members can also assist you in switching your spot on the app. We apologize for any confusion and hope you'll join us for another class soon!
Negative experience: I tried the Booty HIIT class at Sweat and Tonic. The facility itself looks amazing, but if your goal is to actually get fit, it might not be the best choice. The room was so packed, I was practically standing on top of someone else. It felt like no one — including myself — was doing the exercises properly, and there was no guidance or correction on form. On the treadmill, it was hard to hear the instructor clearly, and there was no direction on what speed to set — everyone seemed just as confused as I was. Overall, it’s a great spot if you’re looking for an Instagram-worthy space or want to be part of the matching Alo/Lululemon outfit crowd. But if you’re serious about your workouts, it might not be the right fit.
Hi Anna, we're sorry to see you had a negative experience. A member of our team has reached out to you to better understand your class experience and make it up to you - hope you'll join us for another sweat!
Fantastic experience: Love this location, very y. I love Bianca’s class, she has great energy and is a beautiful soul she radiates great energy. Mario, is so thoughtful and helpful, literally put me on to mushroom broth and let me say it’s my new morning ritual drink. Definitely will be back, it’s a vibe.
Hi there, thank you for joining us! We agree - Bianca has an incredible energy and we're so happy you loved her class. Mario is a superstar and we're so glad he put you on to our adaptogenic mushroom broth. Can't wait to sweat with you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Love it!
Hi Victoria, thanks so much for stopping by Tonic Bar! We're so glad you enjoyed!
Fantastic experience: I absolutely love taking classes with Javier. His energy is infectious and instantly lifts the vibe in the room. Every class feels like a celebration — the playlist is always on point and gets me dancing and singing at the top of my lungs. The choreography is the perfect mix of challenge and fun, pushing me to give it my all while still enjoying every second. You can really tell he puts so much thought and heart into each class. I always leave feeling stronger, happier, and more energized. It’s truly the highlight of my week!
Hi Alexandra, thank you so much for your support and kind words for Javier. His classes are absolutely fuego! He works so incredibly hard to create a fun, engaging class for the Sweat Fam and we're so happy to hear you leave our studio feeling strong and happy. Can't wait to sweat with you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Amazing studio and fun classes
Hi there, we're so happy to hear you've enjoyed your time at S&T. Hope to sweat with you soon!
Fantastic experience: Great ride! Cues were excellent, music was bomb, nice mix of energy & pace! Did a solid job of welcoming the newbies yet keeping the advanced riders engaged.
Thanks so much for joining us, Allen! Our team works hard to create the best experiences for our first timers and advanced riders, your kind words mean so much! Hope to ride with you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Writing under an alias. Kianna at the front desk is a girls girl! She was really kind and patient with me when I was in a dire situation. Deserves 6/5 stars actually
Negative experience: This saddens me to leave this. But enough is enough. Not every customer is rude or mean. I would love to walk into a studio where people are smiling, and staff are friendly. I know the location can make it difficult for staff, but this is enough. There are only a few yoga teachers at this location who care. Elaine, Rachel, Brendan, and Heather are such special teachers. I have witnessed cleaning staff haphazardly go over Matt’s with basically water. I know my email won’t properly be addressed. This kills me to leave this. It’s too expensive now, they charge for everything, and classes are over crowded. The 12 hour cancellation window period is too broad. As a business owner I work my ass off every day and sometimes things happen. And I can’t make it in due to staff issues in my own business or getting sick from working with people. I can’t control that. Here is what I sent. : “Over the past few years, Sweat & Tonic has been a meaningful part of my wellness journey, and I’ve genuinely appreciated the community, the instructors, and the space. However, in recent months, I’ve noticed a shift in both the atmosphere and the condition of the facilities that no longer aligns with what initially drew me in. There are other studios in the area which are more affordable, more friendly and welcoming and have a better reputation. There seems to be a growing tension between staff and members. While I fully understand that not all clients are respectful or mindful, the studio’s tone and approach now feel broadly applied in a way that impacts even those of us who deeply value the space and its people. Unfortunately, this has made the environment feel less welcoming and more transactional. To me S&T is becoming a place where people want to only “ look “ good not actually work on feeling or good or being a good person. The physical space has also seen a noticeable decline. The men’s change room has had peeling paint for over a month, the new tiling job has left pools of water everywhere which is a safety issue, showers look dirty, face wash is empty, towels are often worn and appear unclean, mats are showing signs of wear (and smell), and the studio overall feels rundown. A recent experience highlighted this disconnect further. I had joined a waitlist for a class as number 25, assuming I wouldn’t make it in. Based on past experience, I didn’t expect to be added at the last minute, and due to the short notice, I wouldn’t have had time to get to the studio. To avoid being a no-show, I called in to ask if any accommodations were possible. Instead of a supportive conversation, I was met with an accusatory tone and reminded of past no-shows, without any consideration for context—such as previous injuries or illness. I’ve always respected the studio’s policies and have willingly paid any associated fees, but the way this was handled felt unnecessarily harsh. As a fellow business owner, I understand the complexities of managing a customer-facing space and enforcing policies fairly. Still, the way this was approached—both by the current manager and in previous interactions—felt more punitive than constructive. At one point, I was even told that leaving would result in losing my current rate and facing a higher membership fee if I ever chose to return. This felt less like standard policy and more like a veiled attempt to deter me from cancelling, which was disappointing and unprofessional. With all of this in mind, I’d like to cancel my membership effective immediately. I hope this feedback is received in the honest and constructive spirit in which it is offered. I also sincerely hope that it reaches the broader leadership team, as I worry that these kinds of concerns may be dismissed or buried. Seems to be happening more and more. Thank you again for the good experiences I’ve had over the years. I wish you and your team all the best. I hope you can learn to do better. Disappointed, Ryan
Positive experience: Attended HIIT Boxing class, while the class and instructor were good, logistically it felt disorganized. The instructions say to arrive 30 min earlier if it’s your first time but the front desk member said that’s to allow for sufficient time create a profile which I did beforehand. So no real walk through was given, only briefed on the location of the lockers and change rooms - not a great first impression but I’ll figure it out. I was told to start at spot 12 on the floor but when I could not find it, the front desk staff who told me this and the staff member with the iPad outside the room also could not tell me exactly where to go, as there was no spot marked with 12. They ended up telling me to go to a random spot at the weight station and another attendee said they were already stationed there, resulting in me choosing another random station and hoping no one would say the same. I also wondered if there were earplugs available, as the music played during class was quite loud and I know that’s offered at other studios. The facilities are nice and busy but service was lacking.
Fantastic experience: The spin class here is really amazing, especially the one by someone called Javier Sanchez. He is one of the best spin instructors in the city for the following reasons. The first is inclusivity. Everyone feels like they are at home and at a party that they could join and thrive in every single one of Javier's classes. They could dance, they could sing, or they could just sit down, clap, and have a great class. The second is the workout. Javier keeps it challenging for people at different levels of spins, from climbs to jogs to sprints. Further, he takes the time to carefully prepare for each class--this is evident from his playlist, his constantly changing and evolving choreo, and his rhetoric (the language that he uses to move and teach a class). In this sense, no one is ever bored in this class and everyone is so excited to be surprised and to see what's nice. The third is how this class really makes everyone feel happier. For me personally, as a student at UofT, I am constantly stressed about my work and experience so many ups and downs from my research. However, it is Javier who makes me sooo much happier after a spin all the time and it is him who makes me feel like "I got this" for my work and in my life. So, please join S&T and take Javier's class, thank you!
Hi Matt, thank you so much for your support and joining us in our Ride classes! We appreciate your kind words for Javier so much. His classes are so fun, motivating, and of course - always fuego! And we agree, his playlist is immaculate! We're so grateful that you've had the chance to experience his classes and hope to ride with you again soon!
Negative experience: I’m honestly really disappointed at what goes on at the tonic bar in this gym. I think there need to be new regulations for the staff working there. As someone heavily into fitness, I track my macros, and take my nutrition seriously. There has not been one single time where there has been less than a cup and a half of the smoothie ordered left over in the blender. If I’m paying $3 in addition to my $15 smoothie to add the things I need, I expect to receive all of what I payed for. But no, instead the staff pour the rest of my smoothie into two glasses and drink it themselves, so essentially I’m paying for them to Enjoy what I had just payed for. Not only do I not get the smoothie itself, but it causes seriously inaccurate information about the nutrition of the smoothies. I paid for 25g of protein, I should get 25g as that’s what’s advertised. It may be a minuscule issue but to see this repetitively just feels so wrong, and something management should be monitoring and hopefully fixing. I’m not paying to have your staff drink my protein. Please fix your portioning and if not, I’ll have the rest of my drink in another cup (or two).

Fantastic experience: Great place and community. Spin classes with Heather and Rachel are always a great workout - challenging and a lot of fun. HIIT classes with Kaivan are also excellent!
Thank you for the review, Mat! Your support means so much to our team members. Grateful to have you in our community. We'll sweat with you soon!
Fantastic experience: I loved Racheal’s class, it was so nice and she’s very informative. She was talking about the importance of the breath and incorporated that a lot in her teaching
Thank you for your review, Imara!
Negative experience: horrible customer service, hire real employees who can provide actual assistance.

Fantastic experience: It was my first Yoga class in life and I simply loved! I left the room with so much good energy and feeling renewed. Thank you for such amazing class (with Valentina)
So happy you could join us, Celso! We're so grateful you chose S&T for your very first Yoga class! Valentine's classes are truly a special experience. Hope to flow with you soon!
Fantastic experience: I tried the hiit class here. It was excellent. Such a good workout. So much variety and I love the room with the coloured lights. It’s also a stunning gym. I just feel so fancy when I’m there. Also, Jessie at the front desk went above and beyond. He was so helpful and friendly! You should give him a raise!
Hi Kat, thank you so much for joining us! Happy to hear you loved your experience in our HIIT studio. We appreciate your kind words for our team who work so hard to create the best experiences for our guests. Hope to sweat with you soon!
Fantastic experience: Went to spin class with Andre as the instructor. He was really nice and I had a great time. Would definitely come back, especially if Andre had more classes :)
So glad you could ride with us, Selene! We agree - Andre is an incredible instructor! Can't wait to sweat with you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Did my first class there this morning: Beat Ride: Green Velvet x Sofi Tukker & Friends, with instructor Nariko. She was awesome, the studio was great, energy levels and other patrons friendly. The facility is very nice as well. Will return at some point for sure.
Hi Dean, thank you so much for joining us! Nariko's classes are unmatched and we're so happy you've had the chance to experience them! Hope to sweat with you soon!
Negative experience: I’ve been a member of this gym over 3 years now, and I can confidently say it’s not worth the $260/month they now charge. The quality has gone way downhill, especially since they opened a second location. If they can’t properly manage two locations, they should seriously consider shutting down Yonge & Shuter because it’s just not cutting it anymore. I just completed my 200th class, and honestly, the only reason I stayed this long was because of a few incredible instructors. But even they can’t make up for how this place is maintained. Here’s what you get for your money: • Cancellation fees if you miss a class (on top of the already ridiculous membership price). Life happens, and knowing 12 hours before isn’t always possible. I don’t believe unlimited members should be penalized. • A battle for class spots—if you don’t book the second, they open, you’re stuck on a waitlist. They still remain on class pass, so people with free trials are in classes that I cant get into as an unlimited member. • Broken equipment—the bikes in the Ride studio never work. I literally saw a staff member adjusting a bike handle with a wrench before class. The seats and handles are consistently moving throughout class (if you can even get them to adjust at all) • Unsafe conditions—my bike pedal fell off mid-class while my shoe was clipped in. I had to leave, my hand was bleeding, and no one even followed up. • Overcrowded studios—if you’re in any studio, get ready to be packed in so tight you have to actively avoid touching the person next to you. For the ride studio, you cant do a dip without touching elbows with your neighbor. • Disgusting showers—they smell terrible, and if you actually wait long enough to get one, you’ll also be waiting for a hairdryer. I have had to stop going before work because the wait time was making me late, even though I was taking the earliest spin. • People on their phones during class—this is supposed to be a premium fitness experience, yet I constantly see people scrolling through their phones mid-workout, and staff never addresses it. Honestly, I expected way better, but this gym is just about collecting fees and overselling classes at this point.
Negative experience: I recently had a very disappointing experience at Sweat and Tonic. I purchased a package, but when I tried to use my credits, I was told they had expired. The issue is that I was never informed of an expiry date when I purchased the package, and this lack of transparency is concerning. What was even worse, however, was the customer service. When I called to address the issue, the manager I spoke with was extremely rude and unhelpful. She didn’t even introduce herself and spoke to me in a condescending tone. Instead of offering any real solutions, I was met with attitude and indifference. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I cannot recommend Sweat and Tonic to anyone who values good customer service. I expected more, especially considering the amount of money I invested in their services. This experience has left me feeling disrespected and dissatisfied.
Negative experience: The Tonic Spa is no spa at all. I’ve been there the last two times and they didn’t have any slides, I was asked to walk bare feet, umm why would I do that? I was also told, I don’t need slides as I’m only there for a massage, I informed them I’ll be using the pool as well, they told me to go bare feet, why, so I can catch germs? Also, I haven’t seen a cleaning crew, clean the deck or replace towels. I then proceeded to the lounge area after my massage and there was no one to serve tea, also it’s not a self serve. Later, as I was checking out, someone from the pool came to inform front desk that there were no towels. Honestly, I will not be coming back, your service is awful, the bathrooms are gross. I’m going to continue going to the Shangri La and the Ritz where they have slides, no one talks about walking bare feet, the pools and locker area are clean, they serve tea and other snacks and the bathrooms are super nice that I actually use them to take showers. Super disappointed, again this is not a Spa, not at all!
Negative experience: took a trial class and I was I kid you not.. ONEEE minute late. They didn’t let me in even though I had friends inside. Very disappointed with the customer service
Negative experience: Had 2 messages at the well location, 50 minutes, full body. There is $35 difference for identical service. I am 5"2 yet the bathrobe provided was too small for me as well as the sheet covered me during the massage. The most obvious shortage is the time for the actual massage. You get about 42 minutes maximum for a 50 minute massage. If it is a 60 minute massage you'll get a bit more than 50. One of the massages costed almost $200. The spa does have a decent swimming pool, a hottub, a sunna and 2 leisure rooms.
Negative experience: I had high hopes going into the class, but unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. I’ve tried many workout studios and thoroughly enjoyed them, but this was not the case here. From check-in to the actual workout, the instructions and guidance were poorly executed, leaving me confused throughout the entire session. This was my first time at Sweat and Tonic, and I was disappointed by the lack of organization and direction. If I could give it a 0/10, I would. I will not be returning to this studio and cannot recommend it to others.
Fantastic experience: The front desk staff are super patient, and the facilities, environment, and classes are all amazing! Love it here! ♀️✨
Fantastic experience: I’ve been an avid Sweat and Tonic goer for the last year and a bit. I’ve really enjoyed the classes and the space. I’m disappointed with this new winter schedule as Erika is no longer on it! Erika was one of my favourite instructors and her diversity in music taste made her classes so fun. There are so many instructors that have similar themes, so I always thought Erika’s were unique and a breath of fresh air. She’s also such an inspiring instructor and her classes are geared for all skill levels. I find some of the other instructors gloss over introductions for beginners to spin and they find themselves lost during class (eg lack of guidance on hand positions, what different moves are called). Even as someone who goes often, I find some of those instructors hard to follow along to, but Erika was always on top of her stuff and for everyone on the same page! My other top instructors are Nariko and Sophia who are luckily still on the schedule. I really hope S&T will reconsider the scheduling and add some music diversity back! I enjoy the facilities and it definitely feels like a welcoming space compared to the average gym.
Positive experience: I have been going to Sweat and Tonic every single day for multiple months now and my favorite class to take is Erika’s Thursday Spins at Shuter and her Sunday Spins at the Well. Sadly, Sweat and Tonic released their Winter Schedule and took her classes off the regular schedule. This is so upsetting especially as she has created such an inclusive, supportive, and loving community since she started teaching at S&T. No one else does Spin like Erika - especially her EDM and dubstep themed classes. This is a huge loss to S&T. Bring her back!
Fantastic experience: This gym is my favorite place, with an amazing community, and Erika in the spin room takes it to another level! Her unmatched energy, killer playlists, and knack for bringing people out of their shell make her classes the best part of my week. I always leave feeling stronger, more confident, and inspired. Thursdays wouldn’t be the same without her—we need more of her magic in the new year!
Negative experience: To be honest, I’ve been a die-hard member of S&T since I’ve joined a few months back but it’s been on a downfall for a bit now (at least for me). Didn’t receive anything (not the usual card) on my 100th class, had to call them to even receive my voucher for the prize they’re running, which is for free cocktail/mocktail only. I asked if I can get a smoothie or coffee instead as I don’t drink much (the value is similar if not the same). No response. The studios are also dirtier now. I found a small bug by my mat in hot Pilates + mats are not getting cleaned enough. It’s also so tight in the yoga studios you can smell people’s feet. Washrooms are smelly, can barely breathe in the change rooms. As if these aren’t enough, they raised their prices including their cancellation prices, which by the way doesn’t matter if you get hospitalized you will still get charged. No leniency unless it’s long term. Same applies for classes with 70 people on the wait list. Go figure. On a positive note, most of the instructors are lovely. Without them, this place would be nothing. The classes are always fun, and this place is like a wonderland for those wanting to try everything— Yoga, HIIT, Spin, & Pilates. It’s really just a shame with my experience. Thinking of switching to Solis (new King St location) close by. Cheaper and looks better.
Fantastic experience: Great studio!
Hi Sophia! We're so glad you think our studio is great and we can wait to sweat it out with you in class again soon!
Negative experience: After being a member for 2.5 years, they decided to reward my loyalty with mismanagement and poor customer service. Despite receiving written communication from them, confirming a corporate discount had been applied to my account, it was not honored. Worse, I was fraudulently overcharged and my attempts to resolve the issue were met with dismissive and condescending responses from them. Given their reputation for questionable customer service (as reflected in other reviews), it’s disappointing that they refuse to learn from their mistakes. S&T’s lack of accountability and professionalism has made it clear that there are better options elsewhere. Many of my favorite instructors also teach at other studios - they were the reason I continued to return, so I guess there isn’t much love lost. If you’re looking to explore this studio as a first-timer, just hope you’re never in a position where you require any customer service from them cause that’ll be a fever dream.
Fantastic experience: they are the best! the front desk kindly approved my rescheduling class cause i had a back pain. thanks sooooo soooo much
Negative experience: Customer beware. 3000 ppl flipped here daily according to the COO himself, like cattle. Makes sense for a company and owner, whose focus is driving profit & governance of their strict policies and procedures. Many examples here after attending nearly 100 classes. In accordance to their posted “guidelines” which they shove down your throat, I signed in for a class that was purchased on ClassPass by my friend and gifted to me for my BIRTHDAY. She attended with me on a first time promo code I had from an influencer friend which I gave her and they had an issue with. (Who in their right mind would have an issue w someone brining them future business on a promo code?) Despite the purchased gifted class paid for via ClassPass (which I only recommend if you’re even remotely considering giving this greedy enterprise business) I received an accusatory email with the subject heading “action required - pay” and there after a very long thread of harassing emails from management, upper management & then COO. They accused me of trying to get in on the free promo code which was not the case clearly but they didn’t care. With complete disregard for the fact that I was and am postpartum, which they were and are very well aware of, management, upper management and COO, chose the approach to continue to bombard me with emails for weeks about this one gifted class from my friend, claiming it wasn’t me who purchased and had to pay $40 for. After the fact and after they’ve admitted me to the class. They accused me of creating an alias under my friend’s name who was there with me for her class. Ridiculous. But this place is trash when it comes to customer service. I kept trying to give it a chance time and time again. Fat chance. It may be shiny and instagramable and instructors like Rachel and Justin wonderful but don’t be fooled. Your mat will be half a foot away from the other, squished like sardines and you will be very closely watched and policed to make sure they get your $$ wherever they can. I recommended this place to friends and gave it a ton of business myself but their heartless profit hungry corpo culture & lack of any customer service has completely ruined the brand for me. It’s sad. I’m embarrassed for them actually, how petty and pathetic they really are. This is against everything a REAL yoga community & studio stands for. There is a real disconnect with what they are actually doing vs what they think they are and are teaching there. Many instructors and ppl who have worked there in fact, have pointed this out to me themselves. I’m sharing this to shed light on how they operate and treat ppl. Instructors I know personally, who work & have worked there are scared to speak out about this because they’ll be reprimanded & fired. They make up policy as they go. Their guidelines are very vague. There is nothing about gifting classes. Nothing which states, if you have a so called “unpaid” class that they will ban you from entry which is what they did with me. Is that how you treat loyal member? I reached out to the owner but he blatantly ignored me and when I spoke out against him on LinkedIn he blocked me. lol. Be warned using a promo code! You may get a surprise email saying you owe for an intro class or better yet your card will get charged. By default they save your card on file so they charge you as they see fit like a horrible subscription nightmare. I recommend conducting purchases then removing your saved card on file immediate as I have gotten many surprise charges from them which are a pain & waste of time to deal with after. It is v clear how money hungry they are when again they have half a foot of space between everyone’s mat. Unfortunately, they’re still busy now due the lack of competition in the luxury fitness scene atm in downtown TO. Their owner, who prides himself on being hands on & about community doesn’t care about anything other than making $$, contrary to what he’s put out in the media re himself. In a nutshell everyone I know is impressed by the smoke & mirror and beautiful studio, until reality seeps in.
Positive experience: its great that S&T offers a wide range of workouts however I have 2 suggestions 1. the HIT a d Ride classes are too loud and its make me uncomfortable! and 2. I wish they offer more WARM yoga/pilates classes! love the cafe/bar and the tonic house for sure!
Hi Sara, thank you for your feedback and joining us in class - we're so glad to hear you've been enjoying Tonic House and treats from Tonic Bar! We understand how louder music can be uncomfortable for some guests - we offer ear plugs at Front Desk, so feel free to ask a team member and we would be happy to provide you with a pair! Please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] with any additional feedback or questions at any time.
Negative experience: Tried two different classes at the Yonge and Shuter Location, the overall feeling of the place is : CROWDED, everywhere was crowded. Especially the classes, at times it felt pretty unsafe ( we did floor work with weights and I had to be extra aware of my surroundings so I don't hit other people with my weights/legs/arms and not get hit by someone else's weights) Couldn't really focus on the workout because I can't see the instructor, not sure if i was doing anything right or safely, and had to kinda make sure I don't get injured) There are no individual attention at all, it is a sink or swim environment. The instructors are just there to lead a class, not really to check to see you are doing any of the exercise right, the risk of injury for a newbie is pretty high. Also, my very first time visiting, the front desk just pointed the lockers out to me - had to go back to ask where the classes are, where the change rooms are, where the washrooms are. It felt like I was bothering them with questions. 2 stars because there are lots of classes to choose from , instructors are really energetic when leading the classes and it's a nice space and convenient location.
Negative experience: I was very disappointed with the service I received here. I was told I was not allowed to use the pool even though I met the treatment price requirements and when they let me use the pool I felt negative energy from them the whole time I was there. They would say they were coming to help then would start doing something else
Fantastic experience: I loved attending Elaine's yoga class. Her energy and the flow of her style was perfect and I will be back specifically for her
Thank you for your kind words, Daniel! Your support means so much to our team and we're so happy to hear you have been loving Elaine's classes. We look forward to seeing you in class again soon!
Negative experience: Nice place but “2 minute” door policy is too strict in my opinion. As a fitness consumer I like studios that incentivize being early but don’t penalize being late. And if someone shows up at your door just 7 minutes after you should let them slip in the back. Create a culture of understanding / helping people reach their fitness goals, not exclusivity.
