Fantastic experience: Writing under an alias. Kianna at the front desk is a girls girl! She was really kind and patient with me when I was in a dire situation. Deserves 6/5 stars actually

Negative experience: This saddens me to leave this. But enough is enough. Not every customer is rude or mean. I would love to walk into a studio where people are smiling, and staff are friendly. I know the location can make it difficult for staff, but this is enough. There are only a few yoga teachers at this location who care. Elaine, Rachel, Brendan, and Heather are such special teachers. I have witnessed cleaning staff haphazardly go over Matt’s with basically water. I know my email won’t properly be addressed. This kills me to leave this. It’s too expensive now, they charge for everything, and classes are over crowded. The 12 hour cancellation window period is too broad. As a business owner I work my ass off every day and sometimes things happen. And I can’t make it in due to staff issues in my own business or getting sick from working with people. I can’t control that. Here is what I sent. : “Over the past few years, Sweat & Tonic has been a meaningful part of my wellness journey, and I’ve genuinely appreciated the community, the instructors, and the space. However, in recent months, I’ve noticed a shift in both the atmosphere and the condition of the facilities that no longer aligns with what initially drew me in. There are other studios in the area which are more affordable, more friendly and welcoming and have a better reputation. There seems to be a growing tension between staff and members. While I fully understand that not all clients are respectful or mindful, the studio’s tone and approach now feel broadly applied in a way that impacts even those of us who deeply value the space and its people. Unfortunately, this has made the environment feel less welcoming and more transactional. To me S&T is becoming a place where people want to only “ look “ good not actually work on feeling or good or being a good person. The physical space has also seen a noticeable decline. The men’s change room has had peeling paint for over a month, the new tiling job has left pools of water everywhere which is a safety issue, showers look dirty, face wash is empty, towels are often worn and appear unclean, mats are showing signs of wear (and smell), and the studio overall feels rundown. A recent experience highlighted this disconnect further. I had joined a waitlist for a class as number 25, assuming I wouldn’t make it in. Based on past experience, I didn’t expect to be added at the last minute, and due to the short notice, I wouldn’t have had time to get to the studio. To avoid being a no-show, I called in to ask if any accommodations were possible. Instead of a supportive conversation, I was met with an accusatory tone and reminded of past no-shows, without any consideration for context—such as previous injuries or illness. I’ve always respected the studio’s policies and have willingly paid any associated fees, but the way this was handled felt unnecessarily harsh. As a fellow business owner, I understand the complexities of managing a customer-facing space and enforcing policies fairly. Still, the way this was approached—both by the current manager and in previous interactions—felt more punitive than constructive. At one point, I was even told that leaving would result in losing my current rate and facing a higher membership fee if I ever chose to return. This felt less like standard policy and more like a veiled attempt to deter me from cancelling, which was disappointing and unprofessional. With all of this in mind, I’d like to cancel my membership effective immediately. I hope this feedback is received in the honest and constructive spirit in which it is offered. I also sincerely hope that it reaches the broader leadership team, as I worry that these kinds of concerns may be dismissed or buried. Seems to be happening more and more. Thank you again for the good experiences I’ve had over the years. I wish you and your team all the best. I hope you can learn to do better. Disappointed, Ryan

Positive experience: Attended HIIT Boxing class, while the class and instructor were good, logistically it felt disorganized. The instructions say to arrive 30 min earlier if it’s your first time but the front desk member said that’s to allow for sufficient time create a profile which I did beforehand. So no real walk through was given, only briefed on the location of the lockers and change rooms - not a great first impression but I’ll figure it out. I was told to start at spot 12 on the floor but when I could not find it, the front desk staff who told me this and the staff member with the iPad outside the room also could not tell me exactly where to go, as there was no spot marked with 12. They ended up telling me to go to a random spot at the weight station and another attendee said they were already stationed there, resulting in me choosing another random station and hoping no one would say the same. I also wondered if there were earplugs available, as the music played during class was quite loud and I know that’s offered at other studios. The facilities are nice and busy but service was lacking.

Fantastic experience: The spin class here is really amazing, especially the one by someone called Javier Sanchez. He is one of the best spin instructors in the city for the following reasons. The first is inclusivity. Everyone feels like they are at home and at a party that they could join and thrive in every single one of Javier's classes. They could dance, they could sing, or they could just sit down, clap, and have a great class. The second is the workout. Javier keeps it challenging for people at different levels of spins, from climbs to jogs to sprints. Further, he takes the time to carefully prepare for each class--this is evident from his playlist, his constantly changing and evolving choreo, and his rhetoric (the language that he uses to move and teach a class). In this sense, no one is ever bored in this class and everyone is so excited to be surprised and to see what's nice. The third is how this class really makes everyone feel happier. For me personally, as a student at UofT, I am constantly stressed about my work and experience so many ups and downs from my research. However, it is Javier who makes me sooo much happier after a spin all the time and it is him who makes me feel like "I got this" for my work and in my life. So, please join S&T and take Javier's class, thank you!

Sweat and Tonic

Hi Matt, thank you so much for your support and joining us in our Ride classes! We appreciate your kind words for Javier so much. His classes are so fun, motivating, and of course - always fuego! And we agree, his playlist is immaculate! We're so grateful that you've had the chance to experience his classes and hope to ride with you again soon!

Negative experience: I’m honestly really disappointed at what goes on at the tonic bar in this gym. I think there need to be new regulations for the staff working there. As someone heavily into fitness, I track my macros, and take my nutrition seriously. There has not been one single time where there has been less than a cup and a half of the smoothie ordered left over in the blender. If I’m paying $3 in addition to my $15 smoothie to add the things I need, I expect to receive all of what I payed for. But no, instead the staff pour the rest of my smoothie into two glasses and drink it themselves, so essentially I’m paying for them to Enjoy what I had just payed for. Not only do I not get the smoothie itself, but it causes seriously inaccurate information about the nutrition of the smoothies. I paid for 25g of protein, I should get 25g as that’s what’s advertised. It may be a minuscule issue but to see this repetitively just feels so wrong, and something management should be monitoring and hopefully fixing. I’m not paying to have your staff drink my protein. Please fix your portioning and if not, I’ll have the rest of my drink in another cup (or two).

Fantastic experience: I tried the hiit class here. It was excellent. Such a good workout. So much variety and I love the room with the coloured lights. It’s also a stunning gym. I just feel so fancy when I’m there. Also, Jessie at the front desk went above and beyond. He was so helpful and friendly! You should give him a raise!

Negative experience: I’ve been a member of this gym over 3 years now, and I can confidently say it’s not worth the $260/month they now charge. The quality has gone way downhill, especially since they opened a second location. If they can’t properly manage two locations, they should seriously consider shutting down Yonge & Shuter because it’s just not cutting it anymore. I just completed my 200th class, and honestly, the only reason I stayed this long was because of a few incredible instructors. But even they can’t make up for how this place is maintained. Here’s what you get for your money: • Cancellation fees if you miss a class (on top of the already ridiculous membership price). Life happens, and knowing 12 hours before isn’t always possible. I don’t believe unlimited members should be penalized. • A battle for class spots—if you don’t book the second, they open, you’re stuck on a waitlist. They still remain on class pass, so people with free trials are in classes that I cant get into as an unlimited member. • Broken equipment—the bikes in the Ride studio never work. I literally saw a staff member adjusting a bike handle with a wrench before class. The seats and handles are consistently moving throughout class (if you can even get them to adjust at all) • Unsafe conditions—my bike pedal fell off mid-class while my shoe was clipped in. I had to leave, my hand was bleeding, and no one even followed up. • Overcrowded studios—if you’re in any studio, get ready to be packed in so tight you have to actively avoid touching the person next to you. For the ride studio, you cant do a dip without touching elbows with your neighbor. • Disgusting showers—they smell terrible, and if you actually wait long enough to get one, you’ll also be waiting for a hairdryer. I have had to stop going before work because the wait time was making me late, even though I was taking the earliest spin. • People on their phones during class—this is supposed to be a premium fitness experience, yet I constantly see people scrolling through their phones mid-workout, and staff never addresses it. Honestly, I expected way better, but this gym is just about collecting fees and overselling classes at this point.

Negative experience: I recently had a very disappointing experience at Sweat and Tonic. I purchased a package, but when I tried to use my credits, I was told they had expired. The issue is that I was never informed of an expiry date when I purchased the package, and this lack of transparency is concerning. What was even worse, however, was the customer service. When I called to address the issue, the manager I spoke with was extremely rude and unhelpful. She didn’t even introduce herself and spoke to me in a condescending tone. Instead of offering any real solutions, I was met with attitude and indifference. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I cannot recommend Sweat and Tonic to anyone who values good customer service. I expected more, especially considering the amount of money I invested in their services. This experience has left me feeling disrespected and dissatisfied.

Negative experience: The Tonic Spa is no spa at all. I’ve been there the last two times and they didn’t have any slides, I was asked to walk bare feet, umm why would I do that? I was also told, I don’t need slides as I’m only there for a massage, I informed them I’ll be using the pool as well, they told me to go bare feet, why, so I can catch germs? Also, I haven’t seen a cleaning crew, clean the deck or replace towels. I then proceeded to the lounge area after my massage and there was no one to serve tea, also it’s not a self serve. Later, as I was checking out, someone from the pool came to inform front desk that there were no towels. Honestly, I will not be coming back, your service is awful, the bathrooms are gross. I’m going to continue going to the Shangri La and the Ritz where they have slides, no one talks about walking bare feet, the pools and locker area are clean, they serve tea and other snacks and the bathrooms are super nice that I actually use them to take showers. Super disappointed, again this is not a Spa, not at all!

Coco J 3 months ago

Negative experience: Had 2 messages at the well location, 50 minutes, full body. There is $35 difference for identical service. I am 5"2 yet the bathrobe provided was too small for me as well as the sheet covered me during the massage. The most obvious shortage is the time for the actual massage. You get about 42 minutes maximum for a 50 minute massage. If it is a 60 minute massage you'll get a bit more than 50. One of the massages costed almost $200. The spa does have a decent swimming pool, a hottub, a sunna and 2 leisure rooms.

Negative experience: I had high hopes going into the class, but unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. I’ve tried many workout studios and thoroughly enjoyed them, but this was not the case here. From check-in to the actual workout, the instructions and guidance were poorly executed, leaving me confused throughout the entire session. This was my first time at Sweat and Tonic, and I was disappointed by the lack of organization and direction. If I could give it a 0/10, I would. I will not be returning to this studio and cannot recommend it to others.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been an avid Sweat and Tonic goer for the last year and a bit. I’ve really enjoyed the classes and the space. I’m disappointed with this new winter schedule as Erika is no longer on it! Erika was one of my favourite instructors and her diversity in music taste made her classes so fun. There are so many instructors that have similar themes, so I always thought Erika’s were unique and a breath of fresh air. She’s also such an inspiring instructor and her classes are geared for all skill levels. I find some of the other instructors gloss over introductions for beginners to spin and they find themselves lost during class (eg lack of guidance on hand positions, what different moves are called). Even as someone who goes often, I find some of those instructors hard to follow along to, but Erika was always on top of her stuff and for everyone on the same page! My other top instructors are Nariko and Sophia who are luckily still on the schedule. I really hope S&T will reconsider the scheduling and add some music diversity back! I enjoy the facilities and it definitely feels like a welcoming space compared to the average gym.

Positive experience: I have been going to Sweat and Tonic every single day for multiple months now and my favorite class to take is Erika’s Thursday Spins at Shuter and her Sunday Spins at the Well. Sadly, Sweat and Tonic released their Winter Schedule and took her classes off the regular schedule. This is so upsetting especially as she has created such an inclusive, supportive, and loving community since she started teaching at S&T. No one else does Spin like Erika - especially her EDM and dubstep themed classes. This is a huge loss to S&T. Bring her back!

Talia Falconer 4 months ago

Fantastic experience: This gym is my favorite place, with an amazing community, and Erika in the spin room takes it to another level! Her unmatched energy, killer playlists, and knack for bringing people out of their shell make her classes the best part of my week. I always leave feeling stronger, more confident, and inspired. Thursdays wouldn’t be the same without her—we need more of her magic in the new year!

Negative experience: To be honest, I’ve been a die-hard member of S&T since I’ve joined a few months back but it’s been on a downfall for a bit now (at least for me). Didn’t receive anything (not the usual card) on my 100th class, had to call them to even receive my voucher for the prize they’re running, which is for free cocktail/mocktail only. I asked if I can get a smoothie or coffee instead as I don’t drink much (the value is similar if not the same). No response. The studios are also dirtier now. I found a small bug by my mat in hot Pilates + mats are not getting cleaned enough. It’s also so tight in the yoga studios you can smell people’s feet. Washrooms are smelly, can barely breathe in the change rooms. As if these aren’t enough, they raised their prices including their cancellation prices, which by the way doesn’t matter if you get hospitalized you will still get charged. No leniency unless it’s long term. Same applies for classes with 70 people on the wait list. Go figure. On a positive note, most of the instructors are lovely. Without them, this place would be nothing. The classes are always fun, and this place is like a wonderland for those wanting to try everything— Yoga, HIIT, Spin, & Pilates. It’s really just a shame with my experience. Thinking of switching to Solis (new King St location) close by. Cheaper and looks better.

Negative experience: After being a member for 2.5 years, they decided to reward my loyalty with mismanagement and poor customer service. Despite receiving written communication from them, confirming a corporate discount had been applied to my account, it was not honored. Worse, I was fraudulently overcharged and my attempts to resolve the issue were met with dismissive and condescending responses from them. Given their reputation for questionable customer service (as reflected in other reviews), it’s disappointing that they refuse to learn from their mistakes. S&T’s lack of accountability and professionalism has made it clear that there are better options elsewhere. Many of my favorite instructors also teach at other studios - they were the reason I continued to return, so I guess there isn’t much love lost. If you’re looking to explore this studio as a first-timer, just hope you’re never in a position where you require any customer service from them cause that’ll be a fever dream.

Negative experience: Customer beware. 3000 ppl flipped here daily according to the COO himself, like cattle. Makes sense for a company and owner, whose focus is driving profit & governance of their strict policies and procedures. Many examples here after attending nearly 100 classes. In accordance to their posted “guidelines” which they shove down your throat, I signed in for a class that was purchased on ClassPass by my friend and gifted to me for my BIRTHDAY. She attended with me on a first time promo code I had from an influencer friend which I gave her and they had an issue with. (Who in their right mind would have an issue w someone brining them future business on a promo code?) Despite the purchased gifted class paid for via ClassPass (which I only recommend if you’re even remotely considering giving this greedy enterprise business) I received an accusatory email with the subject heading “action required - pay” and there after a very long thread of harassing emails from management, upper management & then COO. They accused me of trying to get in on the free promo code which was not the case clearly but they didn’t care. With complete disregard for the fact that I was and am postpartum, which they were and are very well aware of, management, upper management and COO, chose the approach to continue to bombard me with emails for weeks about this one gifted class from my friend, claiming it wasn’t me who purchased and had to pay $40 for. After the fact and after they’ve admitted me to the class. They accused me of creating an alias under my friend’s name who was there with me for her class. Ridiculous. But this place is trash when it comes to customer service. I kept trying to give it a chance time and time again. Fat chance. It may be shiny and instagramable and instructors like Rachel and Justin wonderful but don’t be fooled. Your mat will be half a foot away from the other, squished like sardines and you will be very closely watched and policed to make sure they get your $$ wherever they can. I recommended this place to friends and gave it a ton of business myself but their heartless profit hungry corpo culture & lack of any customer service has completely ruined the brand for me. It’s sad. I’m embarrassed for them actually, how petty and pathetic they really are. This is against everything a REAL yoga community & studio stands for. There is a real disconnect with what they are actually doing vs what they think they are and are teaching there. Many instructors and ppl who have worked there in fact, have pointed this out to me themselves. I’m sharing this to shed light on how they operate and treat ppl. Instructors I know personally, who work & have worked there are scared to speak out about this because they’ll be reprimanded & fired. They make up policy as they go. Their guidelines are very vague. There is nothing about gifting classes. Nothing which states, if you have a so called “unpaid” class that they will ban you from entry which is what they did with me. Is that how you treat loyal member? I reached out to the owner but he blatantly ignored me and when I spoke out against him on LinkedIn he blocked me. lol. Be warned using a promo code! You may get a surprise email saying you owe for an intro class or better yet your card will get charged. By default they save your card on file so they charge you as they see fit like a horrible subscription nightmare. I recommend conducting purchases then removing your saved card on file immediate as I have gotten many surprise charges from them which are a pain & waste of time to deal with after. It is v clear how money hungry they are when again they have half a foot of space between everyone’s mat. Unfortunately, they’re still busy now due the lack of competition in the luxury fitness scene atm in downtown TO. Their owner, who prides himself on being hands on & about community doesn’t care about anything other than making $$, contrary to what he’s put out in the media re himself. In a nutshell everyone I know is impressed by the smoke & mirror and beautiful studio, until reality seeps in.

Positive experience: its great that S&T offers a wide range of workouts however I have 2 suggestions 1. the HIT a d Ride classes are too loud and its make me uncomfortable! and 2. I wish they offer more WARM yoga/pilates classes! love the cafe/bar and the tonic house for sure!

Negative experience: Tried two different classes at the Yonge and Shuter Location, the overall feeling of the place is : CROWDED, everywhere was crowded. Especially the classes, at times it felt pretty unsafe ( we did floor work with weights and I had to be extra aware of my surroundings so I don't hit other people with my weights/legs/arms and not get hit by someone else's weights) Couldn't really focus on the workout because I can't see the instructor, not sure if i was doing anything right or safely, and had to kinda make sure I don't get injured) There are no individual attention at all, it is a sink or swim environment. The instructors are just there to lead a class, not really to check to see you are doing any of the exercise right, the risk of injury for a newbie is pretty high. Also, my very first time visiting, the front desk just pointed the lockers out to me - had to go back to ask where the classes are, where the change rooms are, where the washrooms are. It felt like I was bothering them with questions. 2 stars because there are lots of classes to choose from , instructors are really energetic when leading the classes and it's a nice space and convenient location.

Negative experience: I was very disappointed with the service I received here. Negative experience: Nice place but “2 minute” door policy is too strict in my opinion. As a fitness consumer I like studios that incentivize being early but don’t penalize being late. And if someone shows up at your door just 7 minutes after you should let them slip in the back. Create a culture of understanding / helping people reach their fitness goals, not exclusivity.

Leslie L 7 months ago

Positive experience: Nice interiors but the bathroom felt really warm and stuffy and the locker had some odour. Somehow expected but hopefully they are diligently cleaning it with disinfecting wipes. Plus it got way too crowded before and after class. The smoothie was nice and refreshing. The instructor was great though but I expected the facilities to be better.

Avocados S 7 months ago

Negative experience: Their cancellation policies are strict and inflexible, especially considering the high price you pay for a membership. Classes are often overcrowded, particularly in the evenings, making it difficult to engage in workouts fully; you don't have enough space to move because people are all around you in the class. The gym used to be much better a year or two ago, but the quality has noticeably declined. Maybe they're paying more attention to the Well location rather than this one. I don't think I will be renewing my membership, unfortunately

J L P 7 months ago

Negative experience: For ride studio: love the Yonge & Shuter location. The instructors are great at both locations. But the ride studio at the well has a serious ventilation issue. It's like trying to do cardio in a sauna...heat stroke. I've been trying to use up my passes since it opened and there's been no improvement. They added a giant fan that doesn't help unless you're on the bike right in front of it. not sure it's a better space than spinco now. Update: downgrading rating because now they won't let ClassPass users change their bike. Class could be half empty and you still can't change

Fantastic experience: Changed my life and gave me a great experience with exercise. My honest thoughts are: the spin shoes here don’t stink compared to the shutter location. The staff are bit nicer. I wish the HITT and yoga classes they would go around and help fix form. I guess there’s too many people to do that. The smoothies are always inconsistent. Coming for the exercise is good but you pay a good premium I expect it to be better. My experience is with 110 classes and I do 6-8 classes a week

Fantastic experience: Absolutely LOVEEEE this place. Unlike all other hot yoga places, here you do not need to bring/rent matts, towels and stuff. Everything is provided. The instructors are knowledgeable. And the Music. Oh the Music is AMAZING. It makes you motivated. Ambience is so good. Lavender scented cold towels at the end of the work out are just the cherry on top. It's the best work out/hot yoga place in the whole city.

Fantastic experience: Love the yoga classes! Nice facilities and friendly staff. Also a good place to hang around and get some work done with a smoothie.

Fantastic experience: I love Rachel’s traditional yoga classes. The fire breathing exercises are something I always look forward to in the weekend sessions. Her deep respect for the yoga culture from India adds a meaningful layer to the experience. The inclusion of McKenna or Ram Dass elements at the end is a wonderfully peaceful touch.

Fantastic experience: I absolutely love this place. So many great things to say: clean and stacked amenities, great instructors, and a wide variety of classes to choose from. I love the Pilates classes. I especially appreciate that the room is dark so everyone focuses on themselves instead of each other - makes it a lot easier for someone who can get self conscious while working out. Love how the instructors both push you while also encouraging modifications and/or breaks when needed. I live too far for an unlimited membership so currently buying credit bundles to come once or twice a week. Definitely worth it!

Fantastic experience: Updated review: love the spin classes here. The studio is clean and modern and the instructors are all great. I love EDM so the themed classes are super fun. Erika has the best playlists and energy, and the Monday rave rides with a real DJ are great too (but those nights are more chill house/tech house which is not as motivating compared to a techno ride imo). Will continue to love S&T for spin classes over other clubs. Eucalyptus towels and Dyson hairdryers are a nice touch!

Thanks for the review, Iris! Looking forward to seeing you in the studio again soon.

Negative experience: Staff was dismissive when asked question and required me to call the manager for further instructions. When requesting to talk to the manager, the staff took a moment the talk to her colleagues before getting her attention. This was not a good experience. She was also really fake and apologize for things that she has no control over, when I told her she doesn't need to apologize she had a look of disgust as if I was not suppose to take what she said at face value. Morally questionable and perhaps should stay in customer service to ruin businesses.

Negative experience: Lovely location and classes are good and varied. I like you can choose how intense or slow you want to take it. Wish they showed more modifications for people who have injury limitations or signalled low impact classes. I have found recently that some classes are wayyy too full and tripping over people. I usually do morning and once I did evening I was like there is nooo space ( Yonge and shuter). Don't like that I tried to sign up for a class and it was a min over and wouldn't let me go in, when in the comments I see a 2 min grace period. -___- ( the well). There has been a time where I was over a minute BC of time spent talking to the people at the front desk checking in and they still wouldn't budge. Also with a membership give people a 5 min grace period, especially while warm up is happening, it doesn't interrupt people and especially if we have taken the class before. 5 minutes is reasonable. Also when you come regularly and normally never late. Just BC of that and the complete lack of empathy by one of the front staff (The other person was kind and willing to be helpful). I'm considering cancelling my membership. I felt so insulted and not heard, I want a gym that sees me as a human. Life happens, especially in Toronto when like today they had blocked off the street for construction and I dropped my wallet and had to go back for it and they still wouldn't accomodate that tells me it's not about the class and getting people on time just strict and unaccomodating. Oh, and the class was frigging half empty and no waitlist. Like it makes no sense. They say it's for people in the class, I am sure no one cares if one or two people scoot in during the first 5 mins, I literally asked people at my previous few classes, no one cares. They say it is for instructors I'm sure they'd rather teach a class with more people in it than an empty one, again 5 mins is just people warming up, it doesn't mean disruptive boisterous people coming in at whatever time they choose of complete anarchy. Also a lot of times the floor at the gym is dirty. So so many times finding clumps of hair on the ground. Disgusting. Sanitize and clean please. Offer products to wipe machines and equipment, gross. Aside that BRING BACK NUTBAR. And add to the other location. I'm sorry but sweat and tonic smoothies do not compare to NUTBAR. They're really not good. I got the green one and it was disgusting. My partner eats everything and even he didn't want it.

Negative experience: It's a nice facility, but literally dont judge a book on its cover. I got the 3 day trial pass for approx 55$. I did 2/3 classes. And god, do I just want to give away the last one. This place is a disaster, both locations. The classes are so disorganized, especially when they pack in so many people on so many different stations. Most people are inexperienced gym goers. Who has fallen for the glitz and glam of the facility. The trainers are not an example of the quality of the facility because I can assure you that none of them are doing these workouts. Nor go to these gyms, I see many @ Higher Ground and FitSquad. I may be biased because i have 2 decades of exercise expertise under my belt. However, I have tried orange theory, f45, Barrys, and now S&T; S&T gave me the least motivation and felt the least value for my $$. UPDATE: I did a spin class for my final class, and it just confirms why S&T is just subpar. The spin class was like being stuffed into a cubicle full of people literally inches away from you. In this post covid climate, I thought we would've learned; one of the largest outbreaks was at SPINCO. Hard pass if you don't want to inhale is 20-25 peoples breath filling the air, disgusting ( statistically at least 1-2 have a spreadable ailment ) My suggestions: Novice: Orange Theory Intermediate: f45 Advanced: Barrys Fool: S & T

Negative experience: I attended Lift HIIT. This class poses a significant risk, especially for beginners. I've been attending BodyPump at GoodLife for two years and wanted just to try something new, but this class is all about the hype. The instructor pushes you to lift heavier weights, and without clear, detailed instructions—especially in such a crowded setting—it's easy to get injured, especially in a setting that you can barely see anything!

Negative experience: Sweat tonic the well location has opened with swimming pool. First time checking it out I saw there’s lots of dust looking things near the corner inside the swimming pool. Not sure what it is. After swimming my elbows, in front of/behind/above knees, shoulders and ankles started having red rashes and they are very itchy. Either pool was not sanitized well or the chlorine was too high. I’ve never had this reaction at other swimming pool before. Wanted to like the pool deck but I guess I will never visit there.

Negative experience: The place is beautiful. The structures are great. The only issue is the front of the house. I always get anxious when checking in because one time I checked in and then the following day it showed as a no-show fee. I reached out many times nobody took ownership of this issue until this day. It has not been resolved. I did show up to Class. It was on my mat. This place should be about relaxation pride and a place of belonging but every time I go, I get super anxious. I make sure they flip the screen and show it to me. I’m not annoying person that make them show me the iPad screen show that I’m objective because I get very anxious now what kind of place is this?? like now you go therapy because I don’t trust someone checking me in.

Fantastic experience: Just finished the class with Jacqui Wells at Sweat and Tonic, a great workout/wellness class space in Toronto DT. Strong class with smart sequencing that grounds, strengthens & focuses. Her cues are super clear & inspiring. That said, attendees have to commit to be present & mindful. Positive experience: I started coming to S & T for the hot yoga with the lovely Jacqui! I cannot recommend her classes enough as they are well-balanced, strong, and creative all at once. You'll never. be disappointed especially if you have a consistent movement practice and maybe as a bonus... a dance background ;). The facilities are beautiful, there's no doubt. The tonic bar is an nice addition, and it has decent smoothies and snacks. Some folks come in just for lunch or a coffee break- you don't even have to workout if you don't want to! lol The changeroom area has all that you need (shampoo, body wash, lotion), Dyson hair dryers, an abundance of towels. I would say that depending on the time of day, it's almost impossible to avoid a crowd though. It can feel a bit congested and you may have to wait for a shower after class. Music choice in this area is kind of like a nightclub, and be prepared for lots of girls taking selfies, or taking personal phone calls and facetime calls in there. That's the vibe- catering very much to the Millenial or Gen Z crowd. Speaking of the phone thing. Yeah staff are aware and working on this. Phones are no longer supposed to be allowed in class but I don't think it's across the board or for every class (yet). It can be extremely distracting when screens are blinking, or people are checking their phones or texting and even taking selfies (during class). Like I said, they are working on this but be prepared for the type of crowd that is absolutely glued to their devices. Seems we live in a time when 50 min without a phone is considered cruel punishment (whereas I welcome the break!). I digress... You'll be paying a premium for classes, but I guess that's just how it is downtown at a large facility like this. It gets pretty steep very quickly too. Especially if you have to cancel your pre-booked class (the only way to ensure you have a spot btw). If you don't cancel your class on time, you will be charged a no-show fee. And yes, this is even if you are a monthly pass holder. I've been stuck on the subway too many times now, underground and unable to cancel. Nothing much you can do. There is a phone number you can call, but they don't answer the phone. You can also email, but for something time-sensitive like the subway breaking down or any other legitimate reason why you can't make class... well, they may not respond to you right away. Sometimes you'll be offered a later class (if your schedule permits). That's a nice touch. But honestly... a monthly membership is expensive enough. There is also almost always a wait list- it's rare that a yoga mat will be left unclaimed. This is silly and way too expensive for me. I hope this helps. Instructors are stellar for the most part. Maybe I'm too old (elder millenial here lol), but I'd like to experience high end treatment to go along with high end pricing.

Positive experience: Great spin class Wednesday at 710. I hadn't been to this location in a while since the Well location opened but came tonight and this location has really gone downhill in terms of building upkeep and the sweat and tonic experience (amenities and above and beyond touches like towels offered). When we walked in to the lobby we expected it to feel like air conditioning was on. It must not have been working because it was so hot and humid in the building and smelled awful. The spin shoes were not dry when they handed it to us. They also ran out of dry towels for the spin class so everyone was soaking wet and very few got a dry towel. The downstairs smells really musty. Maybe this location was effected by the recent floods? There was a leak in the ceiling and water damage. They have really let this location go in terms of atmosphere/environment. Nothing bad about the actual class and instruction though, that was great.

Negative experience: Tonic Bar. This morning, for the first time, I received only three-quarters of a glass of smoothie despite paying $14. Before handing it to me, she rotated the glass in her arm to coat the walls with the smoothie from underneath, as if I wouldn’t notice the lack of product. This isn’t a Macdonald’s where you can get away with serving half or three-quarters of a glass. We are expecting better quality and service for the money we pay.

Positive experience: I'm just convinced that for the live dj classes they have listed for is all a hoax and a money grab. I've paid for 2 classes already and both times I've gone they never had a live dj and although the employee tried to lift our spirits. I personally wasn't happy nor very motivated because my expectations were high and now after this has happened more than once I'm losing faith in S&T and don't understand why they don't refund us some of our tokens or just simply tell us the truth that there will never be a live dj.

Negative experience: Applied for job, weeks ago didn’t hear back. Followed up via email again politely, no response and didn’t even bother to let candidates who was qualified know why. You lost a repeat customer and will never mention your services in my circle again. I’ve mentioned S&T to many others and this experience left me disappointed and quite honestly it’s so unprofessional. Makes you feel like there’s a ‘type’ they’re hiring for or the applicant is going to intimate a manager.

Laura 9 months ago

Positive experience: It is very clear that their priority is on attracting young, influencer types. Not the place to go if you are seriously into fitness or over the age of 25. Classes too crowded and are beginner- intermediate level. Recommend Altea or Equinox where you can also access open gym.

Negative experience: Let’s just start by saying I never leave Google reviews good or bad but the very off-putting situation I encountered this morning compelled me to do so. I participated in Catherine Villar’s Hot HIIT Pilates class. Upon entering the studio I was advised I was number 12 on the mats. This was my first class upstairs as I have only ever done classes on the main level. Once I went upstairs I went into the studio I didn’t see any numbers on the floor, unlike the main level studio. I went out of the room and saw the instructor and asked her are there numbers on the floor or do I just pick a spot as obviously I was confused. I was then met with the most unfriendly and entitled response all while giving me a dirty look. She responded “go ask the girl at the front”. I then said “all I want to know is where the numbers are”. Again, was treated extremely rudely, she looked me up and down and with so much attitude said “the numbers are on the blocks”. I walked away and went back into the class and contemplated leaving as I have never encountered such an unwelcoming rude instructor ever, and especially not at Sweat and Tonic. Once I went back into the studio most people’s blocks were covered with their towels which is why I didn’t see the numbers. I’m an avid gym go-er and have been to many studios in the city. Never I have ever been treated like this. I have always had nothing but great experiences at Sweat and Tonic and have been attending classes for 2 years. After today’s experience I will never return to Sweat and Tonic. I’m confused as to why the instructor thinks she’s above anyone to answer questions when I’m the paying customer. I think Catherine needs some training in customer service, it would do her well as I have seen other negative reviews about her being rude, dismissive and unwelcoming. I will surely take my business elsewhere, where I am treated with respect and kindness.

Negative experience: Not worth it. The workspace is used as their own office space so you will never find a spot. Then when their employees do leave they have a policy of no laptops after 6pm! I am a freelance worker! who are you to decide when I cant use the workspace included in my membership! Clearly they are trying to attract a certain clientele. Classes are okay but the environment is terrible.

Negative experience: I've an active membership, and wouldn't recommend buying one. Management only cares about revenue maximization and profits. Classes are extremely packed which makes getting a good workout in uncomfortable. You will step on people in the HIIT and yoga rooms. You literally can't take 1 step left, right, forward or backwards bc it's so tightly packed. In the yoga room there's less than 6 inches between your mat and the next one. Its worse in the HITT room. Have an emergency and can't cancel a class in time? They won't care and will charge you a late cancellation or missed class fee even if the class is empty and there's no wait list. There's no difference in customer service between you and a ClassPass user (a non member). They don't care about customer retention or loyalty. Compared to other facilities in the area and at the same price point they have poorest level of customer service. They will NEVER pick up the phone (call them as you read this if you think I'm exaggerating). The ringer sound level is close to 0 most of the time. If you email there's no guarantee you'll get a reply without having to followup or ask in person. I know this from first hand experience. Some front desk staff aren't knowledgeable about policies or general things going on at the gym. They make no effort to even find an answer when this happens. This points to issues with employee training. Yes they are nice, but that doesn't mean they offer a reasonable level of service. Want to sanitize a treadmill, bench, dumbbells, or a booty band after some else has used it DURING a class in the HITT or Pilates rooms? They offer NO sanitization products at all in any of their workout rooms. It's very gross considering the "luxury" experience they market and sell on social media. I've emailed mgmt pictures of sweat on equipment during a class, asking how I should sanitize equipment I use while in class. They didn't reply to the email and I had to go and ask in person. The manger told me they have heard this complaint many many times and they "have to look into it". Proper sanitization is something they willingly choose to ignore, they know people have been asking for it but don't want to pay for wipes in the rooms. The HITT room floor is extremely dusty and full of hair around the treadmills and benches. They often don't clean the rooms inbetween classes properly, sometimes you can see wet sweat marks (droplets, butt impressions on the bench, hand marks) from the prior class. They don't have mats in the HITT room either so you'll be literally working on the bare floor. If you live in Toronto you know how dirty the sidewalks are, now imagine putting your bare skin on the floor someone's shoes were just on. In the summer they don't offer "no heated" yoga or pilates classes with makes the classes to hot and uncomfortable. They warm classes aren't any cooler either. In the HITT room there's not many weight varieties to choose from which makes leveling up harder. They don't have 25 pound weights for floor use. Every single class in the HITT room is required to use the treadmill so you will running every single class. This doesn't make sense for lift classes. Why does an upper body class include running?? They do this to get as many spots filled in the room instead of prioritizing the quality of the workout. They want to maximize profits. They don't care about true fitness or the quality of their classes. You don't need to be on a treadmill everyday to be fit. Cardio literally shouldn't be the center of your routine to build muscle or get toned. The spin room is so tightly packed your butt may touch the handle bars of the bike behind you. You can't walk inbetween the bikes if someone is on it which makes getting in and out of classes dangerous and uncomfortable. You're so close to the bike beside you that sometimes you will get other people's sweat on you. Most of the 4-5 star reviews might be from influences who attend influencer events. Go on Tik Tok if you want real reviews of the facility.

Fantastic experience: I tried Claudia’s BootyHIIT a few weeks ago and I decided to come give her Beat RIDE class a try as well BootyHIIT was the perfect lower body conditioning class. The combination of treadmill, bands and weights were a great challenge and Claudia’s programming was excellent. Claudia’s cueing for Beat RIDE was on point and kept me going throughout the ride. There was a great balance of hard intervals while providing a good number recovery segments. She never missed a beat and ended the ride with final track that was sick! The facilities at S&T are extremely fancy and a good amount of space in the locker room compared to other similar studios in the city. I’ll need to give a class a try at the Well location sometime very soon.

The only negative about the gym is how management puts influencers first and constantly focuses on expanding instead of user experience and keeping existing members happy. They set up these events for only influencers and hand out these big promo bags to them yet have like 3 rides during promo months and hand out single use samples to actual members. They are so worried about making sure influencers go there and post a mirror selfie and them drinking an over priced smoothie, all for their dumb marketing strategies. Not to mention give them free credits to do these classes yet charge you cancellation fees even if you’re dying in a hospital. Management and corporate are utter trash and penny counters here. All about scamming with multiple credit card charges not to mention with weeks waiting for refunds. Instructors though some of the best around and the most friendly and caring. Nothing negative to say about them as they are all perfect. If it wasn’t for the instructors I would be going to any of the other multiple fitness clubs. Instructors are the only reason this place is worth the monthly cost. Just watch their instagram stories and see how bad the marketing is and who they value as it is certainly not the ones actual paying monthly to be a member. Ask any member there and they will tell you the exact same thing. What they really should do is have polls on the app and ask the users what they would like to see for improvements and hear what really matters. Also their app is super slow and so glitchy when cancelling classes it will sometimes cancel one you don’t have clicked .

We also hosted several complimentary classes for our community during our July Challenge month, with complimentary gifts for the attendees, as well as incredible giveaways each week. We're sorry if you didn't get an opportunity to join us for those classes! Our July Challenge was the most extensive one yet, and we've received lots of excitement from our community. Fantastic experience: I just cannot explain how amazing this place is! I signed up for the all-inclusive gym pass while I was in Toronto for a month and it totally exceeded my expectations. I joined thinking I would have somewhere close-by where I could work-out and co-work and what I got was a feeling of being part of something special and left feeling stronger both physically and mentally. I did not have one bad instructor - I mainly did yoga & spin classes but every class was wonderful and you left just wanting more! I also love the flexibility of their membership options with no crazy contracts, etc. Yes, it's slightly more expensive than your average gym but you totally get value for money - you can just turn up and everything is provided....essential oil cold towels? hellls yes! The co-work space was lush and food & drinks delish. Every single person that works here is friendly, helpful and attentive. Thank you Sweat Fam. I really hope to come back! :)

Hi Claire, thank you so much for your review and your support! Your kind words mean so much to our team. We're so grateful to have you in our Sweat Fam and we miss you - hope you can visit again soon!

Negative experience: I took a hot yoga class here. I might have caught it on an off day, but the front desk staff were pretty dismissive. Just pointing me to the back of the studio without really directing me on where I was going as a first time guest. The facility is beautiful but It has almost a nightclub feeling. The room is dark with coloured lighting that changes throughout the class. Mats are assigned and mine was beside heavy drapes covering a window. There was a steady cool breeze coming from the window under the drapes. Which is not what I'm looking for in a hot class. I found the mats were really tightly put together with not a lot of space. The instructor offered us the option to try inversions at one point in the class. I found it a little bit reckless given that most people didn't have the option of a wall to support. As someone that has a very strong inversion practice, even I wouldn't risk trying to flip myself upside down in such close capacity to other people. Also, a lot of people had their phones in class, which really takes away from the practice in my opinion. The cold towels at the end of the class were a nice touch though. It's a gorgeous, fancy studio. But really not my vibe.

Sweat and Tonic

Hi GW, thank you for your feedback and trying out a class with us. Please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] with any more details you'd like to share so we can better understand your visit. As always, your practice is yours - guests are encouraged to challenge themselves, but also to do what feels right to them! As you've noted, any progressions such as inversions are always optional and to your comfort level. We hope you'll give another class a try, and we're always happy to offer class recommendations if needed!

Negative experience: I was invited by a friend to attend a class through classpass and then the front desk staff forgot to check me in which resulted in me being charged $21 for the missed class. I called them and no one answered, I was really upset. Customer service needs to be improved.

Hi Shirly, thank you for your feedback and we're sorry to hear about your experience. We're unable to locate your account in your system from this Google account name - please reach out to us at [email protected] so we can look into this and better understand how we can help!

Fantastic experience: My wife loves the vibes. People are super friendly here as well. They gave her a welcome note thanking her for coming and joining the family. Super inclusive.

Negative experience: I checked in and ran to the bathroom knowing class was about to start. I heard the last call and immediately came out of the bathroom but was denied entry on the basis that I was 1 min past the entry time and I asked very nicely if they could make an exception for me since it was one single minute and I had rushed to come out as soon as I heard the last call, but they were indifferent and declined repeatedly. I am not a regular but have been going from time to time for several years. I will not be returning. While I understand the late policy, I have never been denied entry for running to the bathroom after checking in on time. I have never experienced such disregard from any of the numerous fitness studios in the city that I attend regularly. There are too many choices in the city to subject yourself to poor customer service and disregard

Sweat and Tonic

Hi Gloria, we're sorry to hear about your experience and understand your disappointment. Our classes begin right on time, with a two minute grace period where studio doors remain open. Once doors close, we are unable to allow any other latecomers in, and we are firm and consistent with this policy out of respect for the instructor and the in-class experience for all guests. Feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] with any other details about your experience and we would be happy to chat through any concerns or questions you may have!

Fantastic experience: Sweat and Tonic is like a second home. There are so many great classes (i.e. pilates, yoga, cycling, high intensity training, etc.) to choose from on a daily basis. Personally, I love starting my morning off with a pilates class (or two) in the heated room. Moreover, it's a great facility - and I love the smoothies at the smoothie bar. If you're looking for a place to workout, chill, (and have yummy snacks too) I highly recommend trying out Sweat and Tonic - either at Yonge & Shuter or Front & Spadina.

Sweat and Tonic

Hi Hayley, thank you for your kind words! We are so happy to have you as part of the Sweat Fam - you always have a home here with us! We're glad you love our facilities and our food! We can't wait to have you back in the studio!

Fantastic experience: Edited to add : I got the membership and love all the classes but Josh’s rave spin class with a live DJ are epic!! These classes are super challenging but the amazing music and vibe pushes you through. I also really like Dustin’s Lift HIIT classes. He breaks it up into upper and lower body with less of a focus on cardio which allows more exercises to build up strength and muscle. He’s also really engaged and helpful especially in you getting you to have proper form. I am officially obsessed with this place! I have been using the trial pass to go to the location at the Well and the amenities are stunning. The employees are also really nice. I have done spin, hiit , and yoga classes and they’re all fantastic. The tonic pool deck is stunning and the infrared sauna is the perfect temperature. They have a 30 second cold shower as well. Every time I come here I leave feeling amazing. I will definitely be getting a membership and look forward to trying more classes.

Hi Rachel, thank you so much for being a part of our Sweat Fam and the kind words! We're so grateful to have you, and your support means so much to our team who work so hard to create special experiences. Looking forward to see you in class again soon!

Negative experience: Although the classes are amazing, the customer service is horrible so I’m giving them a 1 star. I’ve attended classes through class pass, and twice I was charged for not showing up. The people at the front don’t know what they are doing half the time & clearly are not checking in people correctly leading us to getting charged more. I emailed them and they asked me to advise what time I arrived & what I wore. They pretended to investigate the whole situation with slow replies back. All to tell me to reach out to class pass. Yes I want my money back but are you not going to aknowledge that training needs to be done to avoid issues like this. For a boutique gym experience the customer service is a 0/10. They do not care to keep clients coming back by providing immaculate customer service. They are very dismissive & highly unprofessional.

Sweat and Tonic

Hi Ashley, we're happy to hear you've enjoyed our classes! We're sorry you had a negative experience with your account concerns. Our check-in and no show policies are standard and we are required to thoroughly look into every account inquiry we receive. This requires verifying information from the guest and in our system. Unfortunately, since your classes were booked through ClassPass, a third party, all refunds must be issued by them. If you have any further questions or concerns about ClassPass, please reach out to us at [email protected] and we would be happy to provide recommendations for how you can best submit a refund request.

Fantastic experience: S&T is my happy place these days. LOVE coming to class everyday. The space / decor is so cool. The front desk and cafe staff are always kind and attentive. Blair Myers' - HIIT Pilates classes are the best! Her workouts, playlists and style is impeccable! 10/10 :)

Thank you so much for your kind review, AnaMaria! We love seeing you in the studio everyday and having you as part of the Sweat Fam! We're glad you enjoy our classes, especially Blair's and our team appreciate your kind words! Sweat soon!

Negative experience: Service was great, with friendly and attentive staff who made me feel welcome. However, the coconut dream smoothie I ordered was quite disappointing. It had no flavor and tasted warm, which made it very unappealing. I expected a refreshing and flavourful drink, but it fell short of my expectations. Unfortunately, it also hurt my stomach, and I ended up throwing it out.

Negative experience: I was really excited to try the spin studio at the Well after spinning at other studios for months. While the decor and design of the studio is beautiful, the class experience was horrible. Bikes were so close together you had to climb over bikes with people on them to get to your spot, and also made it difficult and unsafe while riding. The bikes were also not in the same order exactly as they had been on the booking map making it difficult for someone new to the studio to find their spot, especially with all the climbing. And, the bikes were also not as adjustable as other studios for taller people (5’8” plus) and only offer a few XL bikes in the room. The class I attended was a themed ride and the music was too over-mixed where you could barely recognize the songs. I would recommend going to a less aesthetically pleasing studio that prioritizes class experience and safety.

Sweat and Tonic

Hi Dianna, thank you for your feedback and we're sorry to hear you had a negative experience. Our XL bikes are suitable for all, including those who are 6' or taller. Our instructor and team members are always happy to help with clipping in or finding your spot number. Please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] with any other feedback so we can better understand your visit.

Fantastic experience: This place is worth every penny, there’s something for everyone. You get so much with the unlimited membership with so many different classes and time slots throughout the day. I’ve taken so many of the same classes and the programming is new every time, keeping you challenged and looking forward to your workouts. I’ve recently taken a few of the Active Recovery classes with Julian and it’s been a great pairing with the high intensity of the HIIT classes. 10/10 recommend, like I said before, worth every penny.

Sweat and Tonic

Thank you for joining us, Chantel! We love having you in our Sweat Fam and are so grateful for your support. We look forward to seeing you in class again soon!

Irina Kunic 10 months ago

Positive experience: amazing studio and great classes. clean as well. i love coming here! the only downside is that for some workout and yoga classes that the mats are seriously way too close together and if you’re tall (5’9+) you spend the session worrying about weather you’re going to kick the person behind you or touch the person next to you. i just wish the mats were more spread out and not so crammed into that room. definitely something to consider if having space is important to you

Thank you for your review, Irina! We're so grateful for your support and appreciate your feedback. Please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] at any time if you have any other feedback to share. Looking forward to sweating with you again soon!

Fantastic experience: I usually go to the Well location but wanted to give this one a try. I live over an hour away and left early but with traffic and lack of parking I got in 5 mins after the class began and I knew I could not go in. I explained the situation to the manager who accommodated me and moved around my cryo and spin class for me. Place was beautiful, clean and staff were excellent and understanding.

Sweat and Tonic

Hi Beth, thank you for joining us! We're so glad to you enjoyed your visit at our Yonge/Shuter location and hope to welcome you back in class again soon!

Fantastic experience: No other gym offers this total package of offerings. A great deal, especially considering how much yoga (including hot yoga) you can do, and I highly recommend Rachael Fallon - her methods, which vary from fast paced vinyasa flow to calming yin and draw from her experiences studying around the world, include trauma-informed teaching, effective breathing and meditative exercises to train the nervous system, you’ll leave feeling rejuvenated, relieved, lighter and capable of accomplishing more with your body.

Sweat and Tonic

Thank you for your kind words, Steve! We're so happy to hear you've been enjoying our offerings and yoga classes. We're so glad Rachael's classes have brought positivity and rejuvenation to your practice. Looking forward to flowing with you again soon!

Negative experience: Signed up for a new membership and my credit card was charged 4 times in a few hours. They would have continued charging it if my bank didn’t lock my card. This happened because of a membership I had over two years ago wasn’t cancelled correctly, even though through the online portal it had said cancelled. The front desk says this is a known issue with their system, but does not plan on fixing it. They were able to refund the charges, but overall was a very disappointing experience. I love the classes here, but it sucks that they don’t have better customer service.

Sweat and Tonic

Hi Hannah, we're glad to hear you love the classes at S&T and we're sorry that you had a negative experience with your billing. We had clarified that the card on your account had been declined for several billing cycles, and your membership had not been cancelled. Guests are able to cancel their membership at anytime without fees. Once you had updated your billing information at a later date to make a new purchase, the system automatically processed previous payments that were declined. Once we were made aware of this, we immediately refunded the amounts to you and to help rectify the situation. Please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] if you have any questions and we would be happy to help!

Positive experience: Visited for the first time along with my friend also a first timer. Did the Pilates HIIT class. Went to the desk to check in. The guy at the front desk was very friendly and welcoming showed us where the class would be and the lockers. Upon entering the class there was a personalised card for my friend welcoming her for the first time. But nothing on my spot. The class was circuit style but we were so lost. The instructor did not ask if it was anyone’s first time attending the gym/class. This would have been useful so we understood the dynamics of the class. When we went from the floor to the weights we just went to an empty spot. As we were not informed you follow the number. It wasn’t until it was the third round that we finally got the hang of it. It would be helpful to give some guidance to first timers especially when this experience can be daunting.
