Expérience fantastique: I love going to Abilities Centre for the Thrive program with the individual I work with.

Expérience négative: Unfortunately the lack of communication and prioritizing outside rentals over paying members is the downfall of this facility. Even though they are only open until 3pm on weekends they still consistently close for rentals instead of allowing member use and booking rentals after 3 pm. Management is more interested in the rental profits at the cost of members. Unfortunate that this business model has taken priority. Even worse is the lack of transparency and communication to members. Used to be great but something has shifted in the last year that is quite sad really for those who used to rely on this place. Hopefully management will get their priorities in check.

Expérience positive: Its a great facility, absolutely amazing in every aspect, but the sanitary napkin dispenser was empty, the machine ate my money and nothing. Had to leave the venue

Expérience négative: This place used to be okay but it is all about taking your money now. Prices keep going up with no notice. Even though it's supposed to be inclusive, they have no regard for your limitations. Very disappointed with the staff, most of them don't know their job and make mistakes and if you need to see a supervisor, she's not available and you either have to go online or send an email. They keep charging your card even if you ask to put the membership on hold. In short, terrible customer service.

Expérience positive: I come with my husband but sometimes he goes without me and sometimes complains that the location is not open later to stay home From Me! Haha. We both love to come here but please extend your hours later so that my husband can stay out! Haha! I need my quiet time!

Expérience fantastique: The staff here is very friendly especially Bhakti, michelle, Layla, Emma and grace let’s not Forget about Mckaila and Sam, they’re also friendly as well too

Expérience négative: Keep this centre often closed for other parties being rented where members are not allowed during to use this Center. Weekend closure time is at 3:00 pm which is not convenient for members; it should keep open at least 10:00 pm from 6:00 am for every single day.

Expérience fantastique: What a great place to walk during the cold months. An inexpensive alternative to walking the mall.

Expérience fantastique: I love playing basketball here it's amazing. 3 full size NBA courts. My only issue is I really think you guys should pay a little more attention to the public that pays a monthly fee because almost everytime I call you guys are booked out leaving no time for public to use the gym and kinda defeats paying for a monthly membership. Like I said I love this place but I think you guys need to do something about the bookings and be a little more thoughtful to the public. Still giving 5 stars tho, but just a thought.

Expérience négative: Only open from 9am-3pm on Saturday's and Sunday. Employee's can sometimes be rude. Don't inform you if closed for events.

Expérience fantastique: Everytime I visit, it is the best time! The Centre is always clean, they have friendly and helpful staff and so many options for activities, you're bound to find something you love!

Expérience positive: Worth checking out. Saw a lot of programs available and you should definitely explore to see what you can benefit using

Expérience fantastique: My son enjoys his personal training sessions, unfortunately they’re extremely expensive. The facility is immaculate and the staff are friendly and courteous. My son has been on the waiting list for the Thrive Day Program forever. I understand the waiting list is extensive, given this, perhaps it would be prudent to have two Thrive Programs runnng? Given the demand for such programs in Durham, it’s certainly worth considering.

Expérience fantastique: Honestly, I joined the centre for the indoor track so that my dad could get in his walking but I have enjoyed coming in for the personal training, fitness classes and regular gym equipment. I’ve never been able to get into the gym consistently until the Abilities centre. The staff are friendly and the environment is so inclusive.

Expérience fantastique: Fantastic facility! Indoor track is perfect for all your running training, from speed work to easy runs to tempo. Outstanding place. Tons of different activities offered for all ages. Different weight rooms, cardio yoga. So glad that I can get to enjoy what this place has to offer. Worth the drive of 15 minutes each way every single time.

Expérience fantastique: I was in the Abilities Centre to watch some parasport games. The building was well equipped with different kind of activity equipment. It was fully accessible and perfect for people on wheelchairs. The most impressive thing about this centre was its name: Abilities centre; it sees abilities in every person and it seemed to me that they truly committed to see that.

Expérience positive: Was here for a sport event for PWD. EXCELLENT multi-use facility. Totally accessible with washroom/shower facilities. Lots of other rooms for other events. Not sure why it closed so early - 15h00 on a Saturday. Missing out on LOTS of opportunity to have more programs.

Expérience fantastique: Such amazing and helpful staff! The classes with Pete are a must... He will cater to everyone's fitness level and is very encouraging. I'm a gym newbie, so I appreciate everything about this place and think it's a perfect spot to start my long-overdue fitness adventure.

Expérience fantastique: My first experience at this place and it has been very pleasant with nice and friendly staff and state of the art facility and equipments. What led me to this place was their recent program for pickleball. My only issue is that pickleball is offered at a court which is lined as a badminton court and sadly they are not even offering any badminton programs

Expérience négative: Twice over March Break we brought our kids here to try and play basketball. Both times closed yet website and Google both say open until midnight. Not impressed that we drove from the north end twice for nothing. Someone should be updating the website more often.

Expérience négative: One particular disrespectful security guard when checking Vax passport. She was extremely vocal with her opinions about men even though she was not the person checking my passport or ID (which I forgot my ID and was searching on my phone for it.) and within 60 secs she called for a manager on me. I ended up walking out leaving my wife and kid (they had an alternative ride). Happy family day.

Expérience fantastique: "Joe" personal trainer/staff member is awesome. He took the time to explain each machine and to suggest that a well rounded work out is better than a targeted one for my situation. Cardio for me and he has me on the bike one day and the machines the next. Awesome guy.

Expérience négative: The Abilities Centre, Whitby "used to be" like the Jewel in the Crown for those living in Whitby. When you call the Abilities centre, Whitby, to enquire about rates to use only the walking track, please be aware that they will give you the monthly rate and highlight that it can be used right thru their hours of business. Over the course of the last few months, I have spoken to different staff members and that was the consistent pattern. However, there is a catch – you have to take it for 3 months and if you are going to be away and want to put a temporary hold on the membership there’s an additional charge of $10. This is only revealed when you go there in person to take a membership. For WHITBY SENIORS centre members, especially those who wish to simply use the walking track at the Abilities centre during the early hours on weekdays – there was another reasonable and affordable option during pre-Covid times. That was stopped because of the pandemic. But surely, now that things have opened up it’s time to reinstate those options without further delay. The Abilities Centre is called a non-profit organization. They have good facilities. They have good staff. However, such decisions are not in the hands of the staff at the front desk.

Expérience négative: The facilities were clean, staff were also friendly but I'm giving 1 star because when the covid-19 pandemic hit, they closed the building in March yet still decided to take payment from customers for March AND April. They then used this "lieu time" once they reopned on modified hours AND you had to book time slots in advance. I filled out a cancellation form and was told it would be cancelled right away and that I would not be charged again (becuase I offered to pay my final month right then) but they still charged me. Bad business practices here and a lot of communication problems. I will not be signing up here again.

Being a member makes you part of a strong community, and it is a place that supports both mental and physical health and wellness. Programs and equipment are great. We're lucky to have a facility like this in Durham Region.

Expérience négative: We were here for a Basketball tournament. Hovering staff complaining about ANYTHING the kids were doing. "Dont touch this". "Dont do that". "Cant play there". "Not allowed in gym" ridiculous. Will not return.

Expérience positive: A wonderful facility! The indoor track is great for cardio exercise. The programs and classes provided are great and plentiful.

Expérience positive: I had really enjoyed it here and the atmosphere is comfortable. The loss of 2 stars is that they changed their rates and charged me double with no notification, just an unpleasant surprise.
