Fantastic experience: I came from a great culture at my club (Zero Gravity) in NZ where I had trained for 5 years and was looking for something similar close to home in Oakville. The first club I checked out was MNBJJ and it has been my BJJ home for the last two years. Marcio leads the business with humour and humility creating a caring culture where we recognise that we don’t have anything without each other, and while we do try to choke each other out or break each others arms and legs, it’s all in a controlled environment with great communication. We have some very technical female practitioners and all the coaches are excellent. I strongly recommend any guy or gal wondering what this Brazilian Jiujitsu thing is all about to come down and check it out!

Fantastic experience: I’ve known Professor Marcio (Tortinho) Nunes since July 2018, and I had always planned to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) alongside my daughter. Fantastic experience: My 7 year old son has been learning BJJ at Marcio's gym for the past year, and we recently decided to take a break because of the long list of activities he is into, there just doesn't seem to be enough time for everything this winter. But this was a brutal decision. It is hard to explain in words the atmosphere of this club. The kids have A LOT of fun, the parents are all engaged, the coaches all very active/encouraging in their teaching (not just another day at the office attitude). All of the coaches create a very learning friendly atmosphere, actively coach the kids for the entire session, and really want to get the best out of them. Marcio has plenty of great/awful jokes to make people chuckle throughout the warm ups. And he's basically there EVERY session (I swear he never seems to take vacation or get sick). I understand a lot of professors rarely do the teaching for young kids. Not here. Marcio is a (4th degree?) black belt with 35 years of BJJ experience and he is there with your kids every session leading the way with a lot of passion/good energy. My son is very kind/gentle, and these skills have given him a lot of confidence, if he ever finds someone taking advantage of his kindness - something he didn't have before. It is a very noticeable change in how he feels about contact and being more physical if the situation with others. Invaluable teachings if your child is not aggressive/assertive with others and your concerned they'll get taken advantage of. We travelled in from north Milton, and we'd have travelled in from further. This gym exceeds expectations in every way and was very difficult to take a break from because of the community that Marcio has cultivated. If you are considering a martial art for your child, BJJ should be at the top of your list because it teaches your child how to defend themselves rather than kick and punch (and potentially seriously hurt someone). The skills you get from BJJ can really help show an aggressor that you are not to be messed with, but that you don't want to actually hurt them. You can diffuse a situation without anyone getting hurt. And if you are decided on BJJ, then Marcio's gym is hands down THE BEST option if you want your kid to be in a encouraging/nurturing environment. If you prefer your child to get yelled at for mistakes, there are plenty of BJJ gyms that offer that as well. I suppose that learning method works well too for certain kids, but I know which style made us more comfortable. And it was an incredible decision. If you are in a healthy driving distance from this club, I highly recommend it. We were a 30 minute drive away with several clubs between 5-15 minutes away that we could have chosen. There is zero chance you'll be disappointed. Look at all the reviews - its all 5 stars. To Marcio and all the coaches, thank you for creating an incredible experience for the children you teach. The success you are having is a result of your hard work and dedication to your craft. Thank you for creating such an incredible learning environment for the young ones. If you're on the fence about joining this gym, I am pretty sure the first couple classes are free so go try it out. You'll see right away.

Fantastic experience: Our family joined MNBJJ in the Spring 2024 and my two sons have learned so much already. They look forward to their classes every week, the coaches are all great people with high level skills and work so well with kids. The classes are structured in such a way that my boys come home excited to show me what they worked on and eager to get back to learn more and practice with a classmate. I love the positive environment, the encouragement to work hard and the constant coaching and feedback. I only have great things to say about MNBJJ and would recommend it to everyone! I visited different gyms and dojos for years looking the right balance of discipline, respect, learning and fun and I found it here.

Their "Adopt a White Belt" program is also a game changer. This apporach totally changes the learning curve for all new participants. You can now learn the sport without fear of getting hurt... and it feels like semi-private lessons each class. I've also lost weight, gained core strength, toned my physique and increased my cardio significantly in the last 18 months. All while making many great new friends, and introducing the sport to my family/friends. As an older dad, this place is simply the best BJJ/martial arts school I've trained in over the years! Fantastic experience: I have been to a few different gyms to try and learn Jiu Jitsu, but since training with MN I have found their classes really build on each other. The best thing about it is the times to train are flexible. I appreciate that they have a standard curriculum and all the instructors follow it, which is great to review the concepts after learning them. I know with some gyms you might learn something and not see it again for a while. I definitely feel like I have improved a lot in a short time.

Update: I have started the Krav Maga program in the last couple of months and it has been an amazing experience. Coach Mitchell is great, he takes time with each student to go over techniques and classes are a mixture of realistic self defense situations and fun drills. I would highly recommend for anyone who is interested in self defense (specially law enforcement/security), we also do lots of weapons defense (knife and gun disarmament)

His passion for jiu jitsu was immediately evident and came across in his teaching. His attention to detail is second to none as I can confidently say I developed throughout my time training with him and the rest of the coaches. In addition to excellent coaches are members who support one another and create a family environment that make you look forward to training every day. The schedule is very flexible and offers early morning, afternoon and evening classes. Both gi and no gi classes are taught emphasizing a balance of takedowns, self defence and competition style Jiu Jitsu. I can tell you training at this gym has contributed to some of the best years of my life and I truly value everything Marcio, the coaches and members have done for me.

Fantastic experience: I had no mixed martial art experience before coming here in May but that was no issue. The gym was so welcoming and everyone has been so helpful in helping me learn jiu jitsu. I have only been going 3 months and I’m addicted. Worth every penny, definitely the premier place to learn jiu jitsu in the Halton area.

Fantastic experience: Returning to BJJ as a 43 year old after 10 years off - really wanted a welcoming and community vibe in a gym. Professor Marcio and his team deliver that! Have felt welcomed, challenged and have fallen in love with rolling again. Class schedules are really flexible, I love being able to train first thing in the morning, afternoons or evenings. There’s also great instruction videos online that Professor Marcio maps to each weeks classes, super organized! Cant wait for my 10 year old to join too :) UPDATE: 1 year into training at MN BJJ and my daughter (8years old) and son (11 years old) have also been training for almost a year. No matter what your looking for; BJJ for competition, self defence or just the health benefits Professor Marcio and his great team of coaches have you covered. To go into a little background of my story. I started my Brazilian jiu jitsu journey elsewhere. After showing up to class very nervous the coach said “find a partner and roll” well, as someone who is completely inexperienced I was terrified. They did their best to accommodate me but I knew I wouldn’t be able to learn in this environment. I went home a little discouraged but knew I still wanted to learn the art so I kept searching and im so glad I did. Professor Marcio’s school has two introduction to BJJ classes before you start with fundamentals . This teaches you the basics and takes away the stress and fear of showing up with no experience. After that you can start attending the amazing fundamental curriculum. Whether your advanced practitioner or just starting Marcio Nunes BJJ is by far the best place to learn in all of the Halton and surrounding regions.

Fantastic experience: The vibe of this gym is friendly and welcoming to all, especially newcomers. Marcio genuinely wants to see his students succeed which is why he pushes them to work hard and to be their best. He is tough but caring and his manner is what encourages his students, builds their self confidence and essentially gets them addicted to the concept of constantly improving themselves. This idea then trickles into their day to day lives once they start to understand the power of focusing their complete attention on the task at hand, perservering through any difficulties and never giving up. My sister is there almost everyday and she told me to say that any ladies interested should not hesitate to try it out and she would be happy to help ease them in to this amazing sport.

I admire the way he puts his full attention and effort into everything he does. All of the coaches are wonderful and lead by example, portraying patience, respect, hard work and humility. They go out of their way to make sure their students understand the techniques and are practicing them safely. There are many great things about BJJ and one of them is that it is never boring and will keep you wanting to come back and learn more. If you are doubting if it’s for you, know that everyone doubts themselves at some point, but putting yourself out there and trying things is how you grow, and you don’t want to let fear get in the way of you finding something you could potentially love. You are not too old or too overweight or too skinny or too girly for it. All you need to have is heart. When I started I was worried that no one would want to be my partner or that I’d be taking away from other people’s training in some way, but I was made to feel welcome right away and Marcio and the other coaches are always looking out for me. Now I just feel happy to be there training with a bunch of awesome people! Thanks to Marcio and the whole family :).

Fantastic experience: Our kids have been taking classes with Marcio and his team. They LOVE it. Observing the way that the professor and coaches(Adam) work with the kids at a previous club is what drew us to have the kids practice Jiu Jitsu.

Marcio is fully dedicated and committed. The focus is not only on the sport but also, enriching your child - he takes the time to get to know each person individually, always acknowedging and engaging with them. As a complete beginner in BJJ, I appreciated that Marcio personally touched base with me via email to plan for my first class, set up a one-on-one to get me introduced to some of the basics, had a gi for me, and made me feel very welcomed. The community he's built and the calibre of people I got to meet and roll with (spar) were very respectful, professional, and made sure to also challenge me in class. Fantastic experience: I had so many questions when I met Marcio last November … Was 45 too old to start? Could Marcio teach me? Would Marcio want to teach me? Would I fit in? What are the other students like? Is the gym clean? Do the class times fit my schedule? Would I have fun? The list went on and on … I stood talking to Marcio while Roman directed a class thru a warm-up and had all the answers I needed. I did not need the free trial I was offered. I signed up, purchased my Gi and told him that I would see him Thursday. I was in. What do I think today? I can’t be too old - I am not the oldest one there! Instruction from Marcio and all his coaches (VoVo, Adam, Ryan, Roman) is very detailed and delivered at a pace that the class can absorb. I have learned something in every class. The school is one of the friendliest places I have ever been! Every time I have walked thru the doors I have been welcomed by either Marico, one of the other coaches or other students. When I am in class I don’t think about anything but class … no work, no chores, no finances, only what is going on in real time. The school is in great condition with brand new mats, maintained by a strict cleaning protocol. Classes are available morning, noon and night … no excuse to not make it. Is it fun? … Seriously, the school is a Castle, how awesome is that!!! My recommendation … If you are reading this, you are thinking about it. If you are thinking about it, try it. If you try it, you will meet Marcio, his team and the family and it will all make sense.

Fantastic experience: Márcio Nunes and his students made every attempt to welcome me during my free trial week. He promptly responded to my emailed questions, which were many as I had no BJJ experience and very little martial arts experience. His sales pitch to join the gym at the end of the week was not heavy handed. I opted for the pay as you go 20 class bundle because it fits my work/travel schedule. I am into my 3rd week at the club and am very glad that I started with Márcio's club. His students have been very gentle and helpful in my BJJ journey thus far.

Fantastic experience: I started at Marcio Nunes BJJ one week ago and I can say, with confidence, that this is something I will be committing to. The environment is extremely welcoming and the classes are challenging, engaging, but above all else, inspiring. I have zero background in BJJ, and so naturally I was quite nervous when I went to my first class. However, the instructors are extremely enthusiastic and passionate about what they do, and the other participants in the class are also very supportive. The facility is also top notch. It is well kept and everyone is very respectful of the rules. As a result, my experience with Marcio Nunes BJJ thus far has been very positive and I look forward to continuing. This is good for your mental and physical health, and I would recommend it to anyone.

I had no doubts about joining after completing the first week trial and I'm happy to say that I've officially signed up. Marcio has built a great place with great staff and instructors who are incredibly patient and helpful regardless of your skill level or experience (I'm starting with none). He's created an exceptionally welcoming environment where you will truly have an opportunity to learn.

Fantastic experience: Great space, even better people. As I start my third month training here, I've been very impressed with the instruction, and also the attitude or "personality" of the gym. This is a welcoming and inclusive academy - there are members of all sizes, shapes and fitness levels, so come in and try it out!! I am a 36 year old with some tender joints from previous heavy weightlifting, and a currently tweaked shoulder -- All of my training partners have been respectful and accommodating to these physical adjustments. Marcio does an amazing job fostering the attitude of this gym, and the higher belts follow suit - if you're interested in trying BJJ at all, do yourself a favour and come check out this gym. The quality of the instruction is top notch, and you will learn the techniques of BJJ thoroughly, no matter if your focus is BJJ as a sport, for self defence or as a fitness regime.

Fantastic experience: I was very apprehensive to start taking BJJ but as soon as my first week trial was over, I joined immediately. Marcio and all of the instructors and students are amazing and extremely welcoming. You feel like part of the family. They really take the time to explain what they are teaching step by step so beginners like me can understand the moves and why/how to use them. Fantastic experience: Great gym! definitely learning from the best in the game. They have a BJJ intro class which is perfect for first timers or for people who took a long break from the mats, like myself, to slowly get back into things without jumping into a full class right away. The students and Prof. Marcio is always around helping you out if your stuck or confused with a certain technique. Great place to learn the technique and the fundamentals of BJJ. During rounds, Marcio is always cheering you on so it gives you that little push you need to always compete and never give up. Overall, great gym!! so excited to be part of a growing team!

Fantastic experience: It started with the sounds of forks dropping onto plates when I told the Family I was thinking of joining BJJ. Are you sure you should be doing this at your age??? My answer Nope! I’m not sure. I contacted Márcio Nunes 3rd Degree Black Belt at Marcio Nunes Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Burlington and set up a time to discuss my concerns related to my age as I am much older then the average participants. We set up a time on a Saturday afternoon, As soon as I entered the club I was greeted by some of the members that welcomed to the school. Márcio Is very friendly and introduce me the the class that was in progress. At that point the coach’s greeted me. After addressing all of my questions I decided to take advantage of the one week free trial The class is what I expected a physically challenging warm-up and top notch Technical explanation of three techniques after that an opportunity to apply the techniques that you just learned. This is a very friendly club all the other members were so helpful explaining and taking the time to let me try technics on them. I immediately felt like part of the team and my all concerns are gone. I look forward to each class and I would like to add that I feel now your age should not stop you from stopping in and giving it a try George

Their experience shines through as each movement sequence is demonstrated and then broken down. Fantastic experience: When I walked in I was greeted by Marcio who was very friendly, polite and professional. The gym was very clean and organized. I had zero Brazilian Jiu-jitsu experience coming in but the instructors and members were very nice and welcoming. The instructors Chris and Adam were very helpful and courteous. Fantastic experience: A very welcoming group of people with a wide range of belts and experience. Everybody is very helpful and generous with their knowledge. Professor Marcio is extremely experienced and knowledgeable and makes you feel part of the family right away. He isn't only a 3rd degree jiu-jitsu black belt, he is also a black belt as a comedian... I hesitated for a long time before starting jiu-jitsu and this academy is the ideal place and surpasses my expectations by far. I regret not starting this journey way before.
