World Gym West Kelowna

Fantastic experience: I've been going to World Gym since joining the Kelowna Location in 2009 and the West Side location since moving to west Kelowna in 2011. The gym has a friendly and relaxed vibe that has enough space and equipment it never feels crowded. The staff are friendly and helpful and like Cheers, they get to know your name and your favourite protein shakes. I've always been able to meet my fitness goals at World Gym and the layout makes it easy to get in sets at different stations. Will continue to be a member for many years to come.

Fantastic experience: Honestly and sincerely the best gym I have signed up for. I’ve reached fitness goals, I was fearing were out of reach for me. The facility is clean, the staff are attentive, friendly and actively listen to any issue you may have and work to correct it. The gym has been busier with a younger crowd recently, and so my only “critique” is that the staff will push beyond just making a social media post about it, for this crowd to learn more gym etiquette to make using the equipment and moving around the gym, as smooth as it has been since I started two years ago. Again, best gym and decision I’ve made signing up.

Negative experience: Facility wise it’s a decent gym, but for the major increased cost and it remaining pretty much the same over the last 14 years has gotten ridiculous. I'm a 14 year member at this gym. Covid came around and the hold on memberships was only for a 4 month period at this gym. Wish I had not quit, but that's on me (didn’t know how long they’d be closed for), however, coming back in 2023, I payed ($500) up front for a full year membership, thinking that before or around my membership being up next year (2024), I could pay another full year membership upfront for the same amount ($500). This was not the case. They increased the membership price by 80% ($900). To offset the scale and cover members that are grandfathered that are paying $10 per month. 14 years of loyalty doesn't seem to mean anything, and it all comes down to the almighty dollar. I just find it a little unequal as well ,due to another member who had been there just as long, but was still on the $10 per month and was able to pay his year up front, but no price change against him. When the admin at worlds boosts their price rates again I will be done with this gym. Pretty sad.

Negative experience: Owner is a jackass and treats members terribly. Don't recommend this gym to anyone.

Fantastic experience: By far the best gym in Kelowna. Makes shakes and has a supplement king overstock area (Protein bars, chips, protein powder, pre, etc) Great staff, friendly environment and reasonable prices.

Positive experience: Great price and atmosphere ($40 per month). I would give it 5 stars if their hours were more reasonable. It should at least be open until midnight or at the very least adjust the weekend closing times to 10pm. They also could use more squat racks, it would be nice to have at least one in the women’s section.

Negative experience: Paying 90 dollars a month. Is this what winning feels like? I got a surprise $25 dollar charge March 1st. Call the front desk to ask why. "Oh, that's a fee that whomever signed you up, should have told you about... It locks in your $90/month rate so it doesn't go higher." You get charged every September and March arbitrarily. So there's a few awesome people that get to pay $10 a month, and $50 a year to enjoy the pleasure of paying $10/month. Then there's new sucks like me that are paying $1130 dollars a year to come here. I will not be able to afford a protein smoothie from you guys after working out.

Negative experience: Good gym, however the charges for late payment are insane (more than the gym membership itself). Any kind of admin related issues needs to be emailed and is addressed within 5 days…. Cancellations aren’t an easy process either.

Fantastic experience: The drop in rate is a bit high, but, my son was home from uni for winter break and needed a gym for a couple of weeks. Everywhere else seemed to require a membership. Their equipment is well maintained. Staff are friendly. Patrons are helpful.

Positive experience: The facility is good, but I wouldn't refer my female friends to this gym. I've only been going for 5 months and there's already been a few incidents that would have been totally inappropriate at any other gym

Negative experience: Paper towels and sanitary spray always empty upstairs in women's area

Negative experience: They have only commercials on all of the TV's all of the time, imagine turning on the TV and every station has just commercials 24 hours a day, that's what it's like to work out there. It's like being on some North Korean Dystopian TV show where you are forced to watch corporate propaganda all the time. The owners don't care about what their customers want, nobody would ever vote to watch only commercials but the owners and managers don't care, all they care about is there bank account, greed, greed, greed!!!

Positive experience: Good gym, good value. I just moved from the lower mainland to W Kelowna and had been a GoodLife member for years. Not wanting to drive to Kelowna I got a membership at World. They have 90% of the equipment I need, and the availability of equipment in the early mornings is always pretty good. Busier early evenings but still good. Need a few more equipment handles, bars, grips etc as I often have to go searching for them left around the gym but not a big thing. Staff are great. Other gym members are chill and friendly. It’s a good mix. Definitely need to change up the 70s hard rock music though lol

Positive experience: The staff are so friendly and helpful. The only downside here now is since they brought in new equipment, the place is very cramped for space.

Negative experience: 20$ for a drop in or 80$ for a monthly charge. I was visiting only for two weeks. Neither of these seemed reasonable. Went to the Johnson Bentley instead. Far less equipment, but a suitable work out spot for my vacation and only $5.10/day!! Excellent value!

Fantastic experience: My best option for working out. Started in 2015 and took 10 months off. The biggest mistake was ending my membership. I wasn't sure if I'd ever be able to come back. It's been a struggle.

Fantastic experience: Hey World Gym, I love coming to your facility when in town to visit my kids. However, I find the drop in rate to be expensive. I have an annual membership in another town and would like to see you offer a better rate for visitors with similar circumstances. Please consider this

Negative experience: The way they closed the Kelowna location on May 26th and forced me to pay for that entire month, plus 8 weeks from when I cancelled is a scam. They didn't even stay open until they said they were closing. Not impressed and will never be a member of another world gym after this experience.

Positive experience: I really enjoy this gym, aside from the typical judgemental stares and snickers coming from the ignorant kids who think that it's ok to judge the big girl.

Fantastic experience: Has everything I need. Only suggestion is to replace the bench press with the "swinging arms" to a proper bench press. Few like it and it just clogs up the one proper bench press during peak hours. Other than that, it's a great gym with friendly staff.

Positive experience: Good gym cheap gotta pick a good time tho lots of kids that just wanna talk but thats gonna be at any gym

Negative experience: Came in here with a travel pass, both front desk folks were on their phones. Handed them my travel pass, told me "you should've called us first". This is wrong, as I've been an employee at WG before and the process is that they should've called my home WG to confirm that I can travel. Begrudgingly let me work out and proceeded to spend more time taking pictures with the Halloween decorations than doing their job. Had to ask another member where the change room was. Find some professionalism and figure it out.

Fantastic experience: Loved my quick day trip here. They have a whole leg section, cardio area, and a women’s section upstairs. The facilities were great and everyone was friendly.

Fantastic experience: Great equipment for a really cheap price, I will never go back to anytime and make the drive to come here. Staff is friendly and attentive to repairs, snack bar, drinks and even saunas with classes make this a great gym!!!

Negative experience: Have moved away from this location but because I'm close to another location they still want 60 days cancellation or I've been told to sign up at their closer location. Have also sent emails of broken machines within first 2 months of signing up. Called to followup if they had been fixed and they hadn't been. If you read their reviews, no dissatisfied customers have been contacted to rectify the situation.

Positive experience: It's a pretty good place for the price you pay to go and do your thing. The staff are more helpful and friendly than a couple years ago. The space looks much better since renovations. Would be better if the ladies area upstairs was bigger especially since it's so busy . Parking is also an issue depending on the time of day you go.

Negative experience: Terrible customer service. Charges to change your membership (even when they had a free enrolment promo happening). Had my membership placed on hold due to COVID restrictions, and then went to cancel and they still needed a 60 day cancellation window. I literally haven't been there in months because I am not allowed in and I am still getting charged. No help whatsoever when you call. Emails don't get responded to in a timely manner. Go to Iron Energy Gym across the road.

Negative experience: The most unfriendly staff I have ever seen. I asked the owner about it and he felt it is ok to have unfriendly staff and terminated my membership because I questioned him and his staff about being unfriendly. Obviously the owner feels his staff is more important then the customer. Unbelievable.

Negative experience: Started going to WG when I moved here in October. Then at the end of November when our province’s PHO issued a mask mandate WG decided to impose this for all members while working out. Despite the fact this isn’t part of the actual mandate WG decided to make it mandatory. When I reached out to ask if they will honour medical exemptions, which by law and even by mandate businesses are legally required to, they didn’t respond to my emails. They left it at “these are our rules and we are sticking to it” (in other similar words). Other gyms have not gone this far to mandate masks while working out. Not only do masks not actually prevent the spread of disease (look up the medical studies), but it is super unsafe to mandate such a thing. Furthermore, some people actually do have restrictions to these mandates, and not only was WG not willing to accommodate but they just didn’t even bother to respond. In terms of the gym itself it’s okay. It’s small and has enough equipment to get a decent workout in. But, their customer service is horrible, and their mask at all times mandate is illogical at best.

Negative experience: Most unprofessional business I have come across in a very long time. Asked for the manager's info and was told "we don't give that information out." Also have to wait three months for my gym cancellation to go into effect. Such a poor business practice. I have nothing good to say about the gym other than the protein donuts rock. Don't join.

Positive experience: Fine place to lift but the atmosphere is weird. Almost everyone has headphones in but they still crank some bad music for the people who don't have headphones (heavy metal/screamo that's way too loud. - no one wants to hear that). Put on a generic workout playlist from spotify. Lots of new staff recently and the upkeep is lacking - empty towel rolls and bottles, More scattered weights. Would pay double for a clean stocked gym. $5/month attracts a $5/month attitude in some ways. Would go somewhere else but the location is great for me.

Negative experience: Won't be coming back even though its probably the cheapest membership around. Its obvious why its so cheap. Not much space in the gym, machines are old and only one tanning bed so I never got to tan.

Positive experience: The gym is pretty well equipped and maintained but the general manager Tracey needs some additute adjustments

Negative experience: This place is a joke, i was in town so decided to go for a quick workout, their drop in fee was $15!! They clearly take advantage of the tourists during the summer time it appears, shamefull on their decision to do that, will never visit again!!!

That’s just a factor that comes with having a great place to workout and a caring staff full of comedic conversationalists.
