A quick look at their head office reviews shows this is a systemic issue. Their predatory and anti-consumer approach makes for a terrible experience. Avoid this gym at all costs.

Negative experience: Overall I have no issue with this gym but it is wayyy too hot for someone to comfortably complete a work out. It's absolutely ridiculous. There is a sauna available if I would like to be sitting down sweating profusely. Also this temperature in combination that a big minority of the gym members have bad hygiene practices and do not use deodorant doesn't help.

Positive experience: This GoodLife is always running out of towels, and it gets super crowded. A lot of the classes here are really popular, and the instructors are awesome, but with so many people in the area, they should either open another location or expand this one to handle the crowd better.

Negative experience: This place is a zoo. They locked a big chunk of an already small gym for their overpriced (and quite honestly a rip off) personal training service. You will not get a single machine or weight without a long wait.

Positive experience: If you go at the wrong time. You will not be getting much of a workout done as its so full. But when its not packed its a well rounded gym, has everything you need. Staff is very nice and helpful.

Positive experience: Cons Too small, not enough machines, more a gym for teenagers, can’t workout in peace without being asked how many sets are remaining. Pros Staff is professional and it is clean

Negative experience: It is not awful but is definitely the worst goodlife in ottawa. The main problem is that the building is just too small. They need to close this location and rent another space 2 or 3x the size (hazeldean location is amazing). As for people complaining about the parking, it's a gym, it's a huge lot, just walk, you're going to the gym but can't walk 100m? That's not a big deal. The machines are so close together that I worry about hitting people by accident while working out. The change room is a bit funky smelling but I can live with that. It's a gym not a spa. As for people complaining about teens taking up machines I believe it is a goodlife policy to allow other members to "work in" between sets. I'm unsure if those people complaining even asked politely to work in. Staff seem nice, polite, and professional. The main issue is this location is way too small and they have packed so much stuff into it that there's no space to workout. I dont think there is anything that could be done to fix this location besides somehow increasing the space.

Negative experience: I was trying to have a quickly training today Jul and it seems more Calypso during high season...All time High Busy Ever....no equipment is available and I need to wait in the long queue...Summer? It is allowed only for students that has a lot of free time.

Negative experience: Visited today since they told me there is a 10-visit pass; they asked I provide all my personal information to give me a rate to tell me that it would be $225! Seriously !? Even CrossFit gyms are way less pricy . Too crowded even at 11am I don’t understand why

Negative experience: This is probably the worst gym in Ottawa, it smells sucks and very crowded!!All equipments are very old. When I came on Sunday, there were no tissues on the second floor, and the staff at the reception desk was always playing with his phone . I got the most expensive membership card, but the environment is not as good as some of the cheapest gyms!!!!

Negative experience: So, I have been to this location 3 times now. I changed my schedule and I can benefit from a 24/7 one better than the women only which the hours are shorter. The problem with this location would be the following: 1. Always smells- how does it? Srsly? Even first thing in the morning. Obviously you are a gym and people sweat, but shouldn't you be better with the ventilation? It is beyond my understanding how you let this happen. 2. Equipments are old? Or not well maintained. Everytime I do a machine, I can hear some squeaky noise. And I can "feel" how it is trying so hard! It makes me feel I'm doing bad to my body as it is not balanced or whatever? 3. I don't think I can make it "clean". I do clean my machines every time before and after. But you can see a goop of dirt for example on the treadmills. I'm sorry but That's just disgusting! Well. As you know i have only been here 3 times, but it does not make me want to come back again. Overall these make me feel I need to change my gym since there is no way I would travel 15mins to get to another better 24/7 location of yours. I do hope you look into these, because I believe these are just very "basic" steps that you should have already taken.

Positive experience: this gym is actually quite nice now with the renovations (extra bench, 2 squat racks, 1 cable thingy) but someone turn on the fans in here. it’s too damn hot also it would be sick if the owner could purchase a cambered bench bar

Negative experience: Just want to start out saying I have no clue why there are so many 5 star reviews. This gym is atrocious. I have been coming here for years and always have to face the same issues. Me and my friends always try to go late, 10pm or later, and you wont believe its still very busy. Yesterday was the rare occasion that we came at 7:30pm and it was so busy we stood around for 30 minutes, couldn’t find any machine, bench, squat rack, and had to leave the gym. This location is all about a profit. They know everyday more and more people will keep registering so they have no care about making this gym actually usable. The fact that this issue has been going on for so many years and no other goodlife has opened up in barrhaven is unbelievable. I know most people with cars now drive elsewhere in the city just to get a workout in. And fyi I have been going to this location for many, many years. I was used to go to the daycare facility in the gym over 15 years ago while my brother would workout and I was too young. And my few memories from that time are the exact same. I remember a super crowded gym and it has only gotten substantially worse. And dont even get me started on the parking situation. Keep a bicycle in your trunk for when you can only find parking at shoppers, at least you can bike from there to the gym.

Fantastic experience: I came to Good Life with shoulder and knee injuries. At 66, I felt age was catching up to me until I signed up with my trainer, Samay. He has systematically built me up to the point my injuries no longer affect my life. He has coached me using a balance of exercising and life style changes and I am now on the path to a healthy happier life because of him. Best trainer I have ever had in my 66 years and planning to stick with him!

Positive experience: It’s been more than 2 years I am been an active member of the GoodLife gym. 7/10 times I have this issue that the towels are not available and wait time is 20 min . But today they are offering alternative as cleaning towels which sucks . Really appreciate if the management looks into this issue. When you have the plan and charge for the same we expect the same quality . Sometimes I visit hunt club or other GoodLife center the experience is much better why can’t all the centres have the same consistency and the quality of service Now that issue is resolved .

Negative experience: If I could give less stars I would for this particular location. Older gym, ageing equipment, not enough equipment, lack of cooperative approach to equipment sharing between participants (you could end up waiting 30 min to use some equipment), crowded, constantly running out of towels, uncaring staff focused mostly on selling services, (very pushy on selling) rather than ensuring smooth gym operations, etc. Beware.

Negative experience: i’ve been going here for about 2 years and it’s getting progressively worse every time. wayyyy too crowded, machine quality is getting worse and worse, and the washrooms are filthy. during the holidays they weren’t cleaned for 2 weeks. i know goodlife will reply with some generic copypaste answer, so don’t bother. other goodlifes in ottawa are doing a way better job, dont tell us u care, show us u care

Fantastic experience: Just wanted to take a moment to appreciate Sam at the front desk. He has always been so friendly. The way he greets people as they come and go really add a nice touch to the gym experience. With corporate gyms, it’s not easy to feel like a community, but Sam makes it feel more personal. It’s something we look forward to when we swing by. Also, Natasha’s classes at this location are absolutely amazing. She takes the time to know people one on one and truly cares about their wellbeing, also creating a community atmosphere. Negative experience: Only reason to go here is if you don't have a car and can't afford Movati. Hot, crowded, poorly maintained machines and barbells, and dirty. I wish Barrhaven had a GoodLife like Hazeldean or even Huntclub. I don't understand how GoodLife tolerates such inconsistent quality between clubs.

Negative experience: From the outside, the gym looks promising. But when you explore the inside, there is definitely a lack of creativity and a mismanagement of equipment space. There is a high chance to walk on each other during the operation of a piece of equipment. Thats a huge safety hazard. For the one that are still concern about respiratory infection, this facility would fail miserably for hygiene. This Goodlife gym in Barrheaven, alongside the one in Queensview location are so far the worse one. The best i would recommend would be the St-Laurent Center Goodlife, the Stittsville and the one in Hazeldean Rd in Kanata.

Negative experience: Don’t bother wasting your money to get a membership at this gym. The gym stinks so bad, and it is so crowded especially in free weight area where finally getting a bench is a miracle. When new year comes, it’ll be much moreeeeeee crowded so don’t even bother signing up for this gym. Even the locker room is bigger than the free weight area. The only good thing about this gym is that it’s 24 hour.

Negative experience: Got a membership for 2 weeks while visiting family in Ottawa. I was told I could place my account on hold for 6 months and that I would be notified before they resume my membership. My membership was resumed with no notification and my bank account was charged. I called them nicely to let them know that I was not notified and their excuse was that my email was not on the account, despite me providing my email during registration. Super disappointed with my experience, certainly will not be considering this gym or any other GoodLife Fitness location going forward; no good reason for a profitable business to do this.

Negative experience: They tried to sell me forcefully a coaching program and when i said no the guy was mad at me. They also sold me their premium package and they never explained to me anything about it. So i went 3 months not having access to any of the advantages when paying for it !!! Just save your time and money and choose a different gym.

Positive experience: I’ve been a goodlife member for many years. I recently moved to Ottawa and I have been going to this gym for the past few weeks. Negative experience: Horrible Experience. Dealt with the manager Sami. Had an issue where I got charged an extra 20$ 3times during my time with goodlife. that’s 60$. Called yesterday to figure out what’s going on, and they had the manger give me a call this morning. Sami was condescending, and basically told me that there’s nothing he could do and I should’ve read my contract. Seems like this happens all the time. And they have no issue having the manager disrespect the customer while relaying the information. I recommend you go to a respectable gym like movati or anytime fitness where it’s the price or cheaper and much better.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been a client of Samay for a year now, and I am grateful that I signed up with him. When I started with samay, I had only 4 goals. Get in shape, get stronger, and improve on my mental health, and discipline. And thankfully with the help of samay, I’m getting closer and closer to achieving my goals. My experience with Samay was pretty good. Samays the type of guy that will never give up on you, and I’m glad he never gave up on me. We’ve also had a lot of great conversations and laughs. Samays helped me achieve my goal of improving my mental health. Before I started I was overweight and very depressed. But over the year Samays helped me lose weight and improve my mental health, now I haven’t reached my weight loss goal, but I have reached my mental health goal and I am very happy with where I am and how I look. Some of the things I personally enjoyed was just being able to talk with Samay. He’s never really judged anything I’ve said and always teaches me something new when I don’t know or forgot what a certain exercise does. I also really enjoyed all the laughs we’ve had together, sometimes I would come in for training after a bad day, but when we have a good laugh or just a good conversation in between sets, it genuinely boosts my mood and makes the day a little better

Negative experience: This is an average gym IMO from availability of equipment + space perspectives. The catalyst behind this review is what I faced after finishing my workout this am. Recently moved to Ottawa and as usual after finishing my workout I went to grab a towel to shower, however surprisingly I was told that we don’t have any towels at the moment and I need to wait at least 15 minutes. I’ve been a goodlife member for ~ 5 years now and went to branches in Waterloo, Mississauga, Windsor, Fredericton and Halifax and this is my 1st time ever to face such a situation. When I asked how come you guys don’t have towels, I was told people are taking towels home and we have around 80 towels. This means nothing to me as a member who’s paying extra money for the towel service to get them when I need not when they’re available. Moreover, when I mentioned the ships which are integrated into the towels which triggers the alarm if someone went out of the gate with a towel, the associate was amazed by the idea as if it was the 1st time to hear it although it’s pretty much the case in all the gyms that I’ve been to.

Fantastic experience: If you just focus on your workouts, then you wouldn’t be complaining. Stop looking around and finding things that are negative. I go here all the time and have not found any issues such as “overcrowding”. There are a lot of machines that you can use to exercise specific body parts. If you always have this issue then maybe you should learn patience and incorporate your workouts properly. If you find any other issues, solve it other than complain!

Negative experience: All round bad experience. I signed up last year, mostly for classes and was told when I asked that there would be more classes very soon as COVID was the excuse still. As of now they have almost no spin classes even though the room sits empty, body pump and other staples run very infrequently and if you wanted to go at say... lunch you would not be able to do the same classes more than once a week. Goodlife has consistently increased its rates and been giving less and less. I will be exploring other options. I almost forgot to mention this gym feels very old and dirty.

Negative experience: This gym is very awkwardly setup. The workout spaces are narrow and equipment feels likes it too close to each other. I went a few times and it was very busy which made the feeling of being crammed together even worse. I preferred othe Goodlife gyms in Ottawa to this one.

Fantastic experience: It has been a year since I started training with Samay and it has been the best health and fitness decision I have made in a long time. I decided to work with a trainer because I had a lot pain on my right arm and physio didn’t help so I told Samay about my issue on day one and we started working on it. I’m now pain free and I’m in the best shape I have ever been. Thank you Samay for your patience, positive attitude, dedication and professionalism, you have taught me a lot about nutrition, exercise routines, how to push my body to achieve my goals and not be afraid to reach my potential. My body fat went down and my muscle mass went up. I now have a better understanding of how my body works and which exercises to apply to different muscles. Positive experience: Staff 100%.....positive vibes 100%....upper level 50% (too crowded and a few customers remain on machines too long by reading their books. For example, I had finished 2 exercises and the usual lady hadn't finished using one. After each set she read for about 5 minutes. It was a bit selfish) Nonetheless, the professionalism and warmth from all will keep me returning

Fantastic experience: I have been a client of Samay’s for a little over a year now and in this time we have seen some pretty big milestones. When I joined Goodlife Strandherd back in late August 2022 I was looking to do a complete overhaul on my health and wellness. The goals and targets that were set back in the initial training sessions were once a pipe dream, most recently turned reality. Through Samay’s constant nagging (err…”coaching”) we tackled obstacles like nutrition and macro tracking, daily activity and movement, as well as strength and endurance training. Throughout this journey I have dropped 150lbs and counting, shaved off inches to the point of being forced to update the wardrobe, and have just experienced better overall health and energy. The thing I appreciate most about Samay is his constant knack for taking abuse. When things are tough I tend to turn to humour to make it through. Unfortunately for Samay, this has resulted in him being the butt of many jokes that dance the line between funny and insult. Of course, this is all in fun and he has learned that when I start dishing, it means he is winning. Kidding aside, Samay is a good sport and is able to play his psychological warfare games to make sessions “fun”. Which reminds me, I still need to get him that dictionary because our definitions of “fun” differ. Would I recommend PT sessions with Samay? Yes. Just know that if he describes something as “fun”, it has the name of a person and/or place, or is the assault bike or tank… run far away. That is all I have to say about that . Tl; Dr: Do the sessions, it will change your life.

Fantastic experience: We have been personal training clients of Samay since January 2023 and our lives have been completely transformed. When we joined Goodlife, we had just retired and were looking to use personal training as one aspect of our health reset. No matter what we told Samay our goals were, he simply smiled and said "we can get you there." With Samay’s coaching, we have improved our diet, nutrition, cardio, strength, and endurance. We recently compared pictures of ourselves from a year ago and today, and were incredibly happy. We still have a ways to go, but the changes have been truly amazing and would not have been possible without Samay. What we truly enjoy about Samay is his positive attitude. He is always smiling (especially when the next exercise is going to suck lol). But he is always patient, encouraging, and flexible when he sees we are giving our best but not quite making it. We always leave the gym happy, because we always receive positive feedback from him. We would wholeheartedly recommend Samay as a personal trainer. He took our goals and made them reality, and he does it with a smile (and never lets us quit!). But it's not just Samay - all of the staff at the gym are amazing. Starting with Zac, we were welcomed with open arms and given positive feedback about our goals and how to get there. Zac paired us up with Samay and he's a perfect fit. Everyone in the gym always has a smile and a hello when we arrive and it feels like family. The gym can get a bit crowded due to its size, and some of the equipment is showing signs of age. These issues have not affected our overall experience and we would definitely recommend this gym for people looking for a family atmosphere and happy, supportive staff!

Negative experience: The only good thing about this place are the staff and the fact that it's 24/7. Anyone with a car should travel to other clubs. Overcrowded during nearly all times of the day, layout makes no sense, small tarmac, sauna without temperature controls (men's). I can't imagine how bad the overcrowding would be here if we didn't have a women's club on Greenbank.

Positive experience: I went to try out this location for the first time and never went back. Super crowded, especially on the second floor, can’t used the cable machines. Staffs are nice and welcoming.

Positive experience: It is not fancy but it is not terribly expensive either. You get what you pay for. Most classes are great, my personal favorite is bodybalance on Monday night. Ask for Emily if you need personal training. She is great. Knowledgeable, caring, sweet and funny.

Positive experience: My training services with Freddy have been excellent. He helped me in the specific categories that I needed to improve which were increase strengthen, improve balance, functional movement, and lose weight. What makes his training services so great is his workout program. He personally the training services to fit best for you. For example, I have a busy work schedule which causes me to get tired easily. Freddy took that information and, adapt the workout program that fits best for my goals and lifestyle. Overall within the training, I have lost 30 lbs, building strength in my back, and my energy went up. Great personal trainer. I would strongly recommend working with Freddy

Negative experience: Not clean, people drop their weights, the turf zone is not ideal, as it is dirty and no one cleans their equipment. They need to step it up.

Positive experience: 3 stars because the staff are friendly. And the rest is a zero. Recently signed up at this location and i now regret not taking the 7 day trial first to see how crowded this small gym gets. Weight training area is on the 2nd floor. I usually come here after peak hours (10pm) and it is like a highschool courtyard. Very crowded with different groups of younger fellas talking amungst themselves and taking up all the room and equipment. Feels more like a hangout area than a workout facility. Cant believe i payed all this money just to be working out at what feels like a highschool gym.

Negative experience: Ok so, I like the goodlife franchise and most locations are good and clean with a great atmosphere and most equipment fully functional. This location however I have found to be an unfortunate exception. Locker rooms are not the cleanest. The lockers here are on the smaller side compared to other locations (Kanata, Rideau, etc.). You can tell that the inside of the lockers are not cleaned regularly and shower floors are often dirty. Most times there are several used towels lying around the change room on the benches, floors and inside lockers. I think a bit of a heightened focus on cleanliness at this location would go a long way to improving the overall experience. Besides that, the overall layout isn't the best and it's often quite crowded but this seems like an issue that little can be done to prevent with the exception of maybe extending the weightlifting areas into the cardio section as it seems the majority of cardio machines are not in use while the freeweight section is packed. In summary; I'd recommend taking the extra few kilometers drive out from barrhaven to a different location for the best experience.

Negative experience: Very crammed. Extremely poor equipment setup. Younger/student members need better gym etiquette.
Negative experience: Probably the filthiest Goodlife in Ottawa. I doubt the showers are ever scrubbed properly. It is quite a disgusting experiencing walking into the showers. The sauna I have stopped using it completely from the lack of cleaning and horrible smell. Management need to get their act together and prioritize locker room and shower room cleanliness. Oh and the towels are of the cheapest kind and barely dry you off.

Negative experience: First impression after todays workout, mind you I’m use to working out at hazeldean, carp road goodlife ect… First off front desk guy wasn’t overly friendly I mentioned I hadn’t been to this gym before and asked him some simple questions about the layout kind of hoping/expecting him to explain the layout some more but he did not. Anyways moving on too the layout, it makes no sense. Back machines mixed with leg machines then you go upstairs to a VERY small area where all the machines are touching literally one step next to you and worn out/broken. The lat pulldown machine was rigged together with a couple chains/zip ties and when you go to pull down it’s uneven. Hurt my back after a couple trial reps. Bathrooms and change rooms are so out dated, for a big gym there is only two stalls in the washroom, bathroom is dirty along with change rooms and very outdated like I said. No water fountains located around the gym only seen one? maybe there are more but who knows. Back to upstairs the machines are all so old and need to be fixed or replaced. All of the benches are worn out and falling apart with exposed yellow foam. All the plates connected to the pins of the machines are all separated and out of place. When doing reps it feels like the weight your pulling isn’t accurate and there’s a weird friction. Also I couldn’t imagine going during peak time as I went at 5pm on a Saturday night and it was moderately busy and still everything available was mostly broken or off balanced. I encourage the managers to try out there equipment or try to workout during a peak time. Do the managers or owners workout? Doubt it. Won’t be back. Drive another 15 minutes and go to Carp Rd take my advice.

Negative experience: The layout of the gym is frustrating and way too small. Having one large floor with all amenities would be better, there’s not enough space for free weights, and sometimes not enough machines. This gym also compared to others always smells like sweat, people lack gym etiquette and don’t wipe down their machines after using them. I wish the owners would put in some more effort to maintain it or renovate it.

Fantastic experience: When I exercise I like to follow up with a cold shower and a hot sauna. The good life fitness on merrivale road has had a broken sauna for months now so I came to this location in barrhaven instead. I like it much better than my normal location Because of the staff and the cleanliness and of course the working sauna.
Fantastic experience: This place always had a lot of open machines regardless of when you went there. The place has a great atmosphere for exercising (tall ceilings, well lit.)

Fantastic experience: I had the pleasure working with Samih Abiad and Meredith. I was greeted at the front door with a smile ( normally never happens in a sales or fitness company ) Meredith directed me to the General Manager Samih Abiad. From there I was treated like a king. The best customer service I have received in such a long time. I was a member previously and worked thee at some point. Its tremendous that GoodLife always find the best people to motivate and take care of not only your fitness needs but our day to day needs. I felt more than welcomed., I didn't feel any stress or intimidated.....Such a class act. Please go see Samih ( GM ) and Meredith ( I assume AGM ) for your fitness goals and just a amazing experience Thank you so much for making me feel welcome..
