MOVATI Athletic Nepean: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Very clean. Friendly staff. I highly recommend working with Dana, a personal trainer at the club. I am a middle-age, out of shape woman with high anxiety and a lot of past injuries. Dana immediately made me feel comfortable and coached me past my fears and insecurities. She understands how the human body works and always knows a stretch or movement to take away any pain that I might have - she is also qualified to do "cupping". I have lost weight, many inches and have gained quite a bit of confidence and look forward to my workouts. I highly recommend changing your life by booking with Dana!
Negative experience: I try not write negative reviews for places that actually deserve good reviews. MOVATi specifically the Nepean Location In Merivale is one that deserves a two star. Pros ——— The equipment are all excellent first class the best I’ve ever seen/ used, there is ample space inside the facility, the coaching staff are excellent. Cons ——— 1. Men’s steam sauna is filthy. You will get sick if you dare breathe in there. 2. Support staff is mediocre to say the least 3. Hygiene, not the best here. November 29 2024 —————————— The men’s steam sauna is filthy. I went in there and the stench caught me from the door. It seems like it’s never been scrubbed for a month. It smells moldy. I went back there a week apart just to see if this was a one time problem, but problem persists. The staff at the front desk are nice, most of them mediocre, all the do is greet patrons coming to the facility and provide check-in help. They pay no to very little attention to what brings these patrons to this facility in the first place.
Negative experience: being someone who had the experience of being employed at this location , i was very disheartened and very disappointed at the way the management operates and the communication skills within the facility. the lack of professionalism is the first thing that needs to be addressed in order for anything else to improve within the workplace. It was a very terrible, mentally declining experience for me, not one that i would want for anyone else. I’m not sure why, or what it was there, i don’t know if it was in relation to ethnic culture or if the staff chosen there are just degrading and ignorant. There were many times when my boss, Emily Pilkey, had told me I could come to her for any further support or help, and anytime I did approach her for this reasoning, she had any and every reason to shut me down and to make me feel as though I wasn’t equal in the workplace. The general manager, Jessica Sabourin, is a very terrible example of a manager and she picks and chooses who to have her favourite relationships with to then look down on everyone else. As far as the environment goes in general, it is not a welcoming space at all, and MOST of the people i witnessed as an employee, are not kind or mindful people. (there were very few selected people who were true and kind. All of the staff there seem to be against each other and rat on one another with everything and stab each other in the back. there is no sense of security. It was very unfortunate that I had wasted my time here, although it wasn’t very long after being in this environment before I quit. Saddened to witness the Pay Equity Act being violated amongst some co workers who also left the facility, along with the violation of the Occupational Health and safety act.
Fantastic experience: Had the pleasure of working with Ellen today! She was awesome. Thanks Ellen :)
Negative experience: I’m so disappointed with the service I’m receiving and the machines are always broken. My contract with them ended a month ago and I’m still being charged. I contacted them twice two months ago by email prior to the end of my contract and never got a response back. I now have to send an letter to cancel my membership (even though I did not renewed it) but how can I expect them to acknowledge my letter when they don’t bother answering emails. Oh and when I called, the supervisor was so condescending, she started explained to me what a letter is when I asked what information I should put in the letter.
Negative experience: Unfriendly staff, cleanliness lacking, too pricey
Positive experience: It's good, my only complaint is that the men's changeroom needs seriously better ventilation for the toilets; whenever someone takes a dump, which is constantly, everyone has to breathe in terrible fermented creatine-poop smells.
Positive experience: Overpriced exercise facility. How do you gentrify exercise?
Fantastic experience: Equipment is always up-to-date, and they fix everything almost in days. However, one thing that bothers me is the smell of the towels. It does not bad smell but they also don't have a good smell
Negative experience: Shame on you guys, Im paying $120.00 a month and you're starting to charge for some classes. Ill be gone when membership expires
Negative experience: I received a promotion by email, where they inviting me to come back, I was no sure since I quit for the bad services I received before but I thought let's give it a second chance so I went I was waiting and waved like 3 times lota of employees just chatting between them like all the time, finally tanya came to me asking how she can help me so I explain to her and she told me that promo was expired but the have another one so I said that I works like to come back and she said that no one can help me with that cause she was not allowed to do it, so I ask like who can do it and she said the person will be there at 10 and that's why I quit caías no one can do nothing. 6 people there and no one can do nothing she says all the supervisors call sick wich I don't believe cause at the past was the same many people with no training. Won't go there at least you have free all day long to wait for the employees to take care of you.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been struggling with a back problem and sciatica for three years due to a past sports injury, and the idea of returning to the gym terrified me. I reached out to Aynaz two months ago, and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made for my health. From the very first session, she demonstrated incredible care and attention to detail. We had a comprehensive assessment where she carefully listened to my concerns and crafted a personalized workout plan that perfectly suited my needs. I was so nervous at first, fearing that any wrong move could trigger my pain again and leave me immobilized. But Aynaz guided me through every session with such precision and support that I quickly gained confidence. Her approach was not only about fitness but also about safety and recovery. To my surprise, within just two months, I achieved my first goal, and now the gym has become an essential part of my routine. Aynaz didn’t just stop at helping me with my workouts—she also guided me toward a healthier diet that complements my training. I’m beyond grateful for her expertise and patience. I’m already looking forward to achieving my next goal with her. If you’re looking for a trainer who truly cares and customizes every aspect of your journey, Aynaz is the one!
Negative experience: Facility and staff are 5 star very happy on that front! Regarding memberships. Bought classic membership primarily as I go to Merivale 90% of the time. When going to other Movati's it would cost me $5 which I was not pleased about but could deal with paying a basic $81 membership. Now Movati has decided to charge you $16.50 for using another Movati facility other then your home gym under a classic membership. This is disgusting and quite frankly just wrong!! So options they give you is pay the $16.50 if you go to another movati everytime or upgrade your membership for another $30 a month so $110 ttl. All I can say is come on 12 months so I can leave this place!!
Fantastic experience: Staff is great, lots of equipment. I really like the new layout with all the renovations that are happening right now. The layout is really nice for the stretching area. Plus the women's area is nice and spacious too.
Fantastic experience: I joined Movati just over a year ago. Initially signed up with the non-commit membership so I wouldn't be stuck in a contract I didn't like, but I ended up enjoying it so much I switched to the commit membership about 4 months later. Main takeaway: Great workout classes and clean facilities! Front desk staff are always friendly and happy to help with questions. The women's change room is always clean and relaxing to be in. Everyone is courteous and conscious of other people's space around the lockers. At first, I was put off by not having the option to pay my membership fees with my credit card, but you can actually pay by credit card if you pay in advance! You can do at the front desk if the gym, or online using the iclubonline website. I love having this option to make payments easier. I mainly go for classes, not really using the machines in the gym area. Some classes I've tried and enjoyed: Kettlebell Strength: great class for learning how to properly use kettle bells. Teachers always take you through the movements safely before starting sets Aqua Intensity: really like this class, can be as challenging as you want it to be with the water resistance against your arms & legs. Rhythm & Beats : Class for psychopaths (this is what you will call it the first time you try it). Very fun spin class, and once you've done it 4-5 times you don't feel like you're going to die. Also enjoyed power barbell and the yoga classes! The Déja Brew - Powered Up smoothie from the smoothie bar is also dangerously delicious. Tastes kind of like an iced capp. The biodegradable straws they use are great and don't get soggy like the paper ones. Great gym! My only request would be : add a mechanical horse with hourly rental rates.
Negative experience: Gym cares more about personal training clients then the other members paying good money to workout here.
Fantastic experience: I love Movati Merivale/Meadowlands ❤️ I workout in the women's gym and it makes me feel fantastic! When I walk through the doors, my mind switches into workout mode and the women's gym provides everything I need. I built a home gym during covid but it's just not the same. I returned to Movati and look forward to going every time. The staff are great, the people are nice, and the gym is so clean. I won't go without Movati again. True love!
Positive experience: Good gym but they got rid of their daycare literally the year I have my first baby. Super annoying. It’s supposed to be a premium gym.
Fantastic experience: I want to thank Lou-Anne for her amazing class. She is awesome! so energetic and makes the workout fun! Her rhythm and beats class is the best. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and effective workout.
Negative experience: I joined, excited about the pool. But when I swim in the ladies section, there are large clumps of hair at the bottom and floating by when I swim. It's gross. I don't think they clean it like they say they do.
Fantastic experience: I mainly come for the classes here. They have soooo many classes at a wide variety of times, which is great because my work schedule is always changing. I haven't done any aqua or cycle classes, but have taken a lot of their other ones. Some are really hard to get into (pilates especially books up super quickly). Make sure you are there 5 mins early to set up before class and most instructors shut the door promptly at class start time so leave yourself time for traffic or unexpected delays so you are punctual. The instructors for the classes are excellent. Diane, Natasha, Cheryl, and so many more knowledgeable and helpful instructors. All the areas I've been in have been clean and well-kept and front staff has been polite and responsive. Lots of parking. I find this location isn't as busy as the Barrhaven location, so it's easier to get into classes and find parking here.
Negative experience: The men's steam room has smelled horrible for 6+ months. It smells like sewage. Something needs to be done about this. Otherwise the gym is quite good.
Negative experience: Their wifi doesn’t work at all…. Can’t even play songs on spotify……..
Negative experience: Poor thing . Small worn everywhere in the floor shower area. Tired ,fully sad , drop feelings when thing come and relax , but not . So bad , so terrible when i still see them . Black small worm still ERYWHERE .
Negative experience: Ive been trying to cancel my membership for a month without success. I am now at 135$ frauded . I am being ignored when i attempt to reach or we make it impossible for me to cancel. It is very soon the time to fill up complaint and fraud lawsuit with others members who had similar And the same experience. SABRINA SABOURIN REFUSE TO COMMUNICATE WITH ME TO CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP AND THEY KEEP BILLING ME NO MATTER HOW HARD I TRY TO COMMUNICATE WITH THEM AND CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP. BE CAREFUL MOVATI IS A BIG SCAM
Negative experience: I have always been a chain gym goer because of the variety of machines and easy access to workout with everything I need. I’m mostly disappointed with the lack of customer service with staff. Theres a machine that hasn’t been working the way it used to for months. I would ask at the front desk about it and the employee said they would write notes about it, while I would watch for awhile and nothing would happen. I managed to speak to one of the people who repair machines and I was basically spoken to like I was stupid- asked how often I work out and did I actually know how the machine worked… my mother is in personal fitness and I’ve never known any of the employees she works with speak to anyone the way I was. Movati manages to keep a clean gym that offers enough variety for what you need to work out but the find myself disappointed by staff interactions time and again.
Fantastic experience: My husband and I we got the memberships couple weeks ago and we are very enjoying Cameron is helping us a lot to achieve our goals We are looking forward to keeping going and making our dreams come true Highly recommend .
Fantastic experience: The facility is top-notch, with a wide variety of classes to choose from. But what truly sets this gym apart is Nancy L. She is absolutely phenomenal. I definitely recommend this gym, especially if you have the opportunity to train with Nancy. She is a true gem and has made my experience at Movati truly exceptional.
Positive experience: *UPDATE No. 2: I’m giving this another star, they made many great improvements to the women’s only gym. I’m super happy now!!! Original review (3 stars) Nice facilities, has what you need at any level of fitness. The pool and “spa” elements sold me. BUT, see warning below… I do wish the women’s only gym was set up better- very counterintuitive. Fundamental equipment that unlocks potential for women especially, is elsewhere in the facility…sigh. No Smith, needs robust push/pull, needs more cable frames. There’s only like 4 benches??? The women’s gym is also like working out in a fishbowl, makes you feel watched - your audience is everyone on a cardio machine. There’s absolutely no room for floor work/stretching/free space…I’m actually worried someone will get hurt. Where are women supposed to practice what they learn in classes? At the very least, it does offer safe navigation where you can B- line in and out of the facility. BE AWARE - skip the new membership Game Plan Session, especially if you’re not new to fitness. I’m in shock. The rhetoric is so harmful, it broke my spirit and motivation. Truly bizarre, I had a hard time not finding the nearest escape the whole time. Shameless sales for PT. Just get your free body comp, or not, my $20 bathroom scale tells me the same thing, and RUN!!!!!!
Negative experience: I spoke to Emily at the front desk today and she explained that there’s no way a membership can be cancelled over the phone/email. I asked who can I speak to cancel and she said I could send a letter through the mail but refused to connect me to the membership services rep. This practice seems archaic and designed to be difficult to cancel a membership. Our conversation was not helpful and she did not offer alternatives or assistance. I left the interaction frustrated and won’t be returning as a member especially since I have cancelled my membership via email in the past.
Negative experience: For the price you pay for a membership it’s become more a weight lifters paradise. Heavyweights being dropped. Sounds like a massive explosion each time! Very disruptive and management does not enforce the policy of not dropping weights. It’s a joke!
Fantastic experience: Movati Nepean is the best location in my opinion. They have twice the amount of machines as the other locations and staff is warm and welcoming. Also, if you’re looking for a trainer I highly recommend Shane or Hady. Got the pleasure of working with both and saw amazing results in my physique, energy, and mental health. Movati does a great job in their hiring. Highly recommend giving one of these guys a try if you’re in the market for a personal trainer!!!
Negative experience: This is feedback regarding a Movati policy, not this location (the Merivale location is the best). I find it ridiculous that Movati does not allow for a membership freeze just because I have what they call their "classic" membership. I have an upcoming surgery which requires a minimum of 4 weeks recovery from normal day activities, and rather than allow me to freeze my membership (3 months max while also paying a freeze fee) so I can return after my recovery, the only option I was given is to cancel. I find this very contradictive to the statements on your website home page, "...our focus is on members' goals and success." But only if I cancel and sign back up at a higher rate; right?
Fantastic experience: I have been member with Movati for over a year , the gym is exceptionally clean . I notice Mr. Dustin working very hard himself and also give a training to his colleague and goes around to make sure that every thing perfectly clean . Dustin is very polite with exceptional work ethic .
Fantastic experience: Joined Movati to continue physical rehab and was matched with Michael S for personal training. I can't thank him enough for the work we did together. He was attentive, mindful of my limitations and genuinely invested in working with me. If you purchase a personal training package, I highly recommend Michael S. As for reviews that mention cleanliness issues, there will always be some who don't adhere to wiping down machines after use. The majority that I've seen have been wiping machines and sauna areas will be getting upgrades (notice posted in change room). I love going to Movati, I prefer working out on main gym floor Ifeel comfortable there and staff are great.
Negative experience: I am writing this review to express my deep disappointment with the significant decline in the quality of services at Movati Gym in Ottawa over the past four years. As a long-time member, I have witnessed a steady deterioration in various aspects that have led to a less-than-satisfactory gym experience. One of the most noticeable issues is the over-enrollment of members, resulting in an overcrowded and uncomfortable environment. The gym, which used to provide a spacious and well-maintained facility, is now often packed with people, making it challenging to navigate through the equipment or enjoy a focused workout. Furthermore, the hygiene standards seem to have dropped noticeably. Cleanliness is a crucial aspect of any gym, and it is disheartening to see a decline in this area. Sanitary conditions are not as well-maintained as they used to be, raising concerns about the overall well-being of the members. I have also observed a lack of friendliness and helpfulness among the staff (esp Rose). When seeking assistance or information about the gym's systems, the staff's attitude is noticeably indifferent. Their unwillingness to engage and assist members contributes to an unwelcoming atmosphere. Moreover, issues raised with management have been met with apathy. It appears that the managerial staff does not take their responsibilities seriously, particularly when addressing concerns or resolving problems faced by members. This lack of commitment to ensuring a positive member experience is disheartening. (Jessica Sabourin failed on so many levels to perform her duties as a general manager, lack of professionalism and rational discussion) Equally concerning is the reported incidents of harassment within the gym premises. Despite these incidents being brought to the attention of the staff, there has been an apparent failure to take appropriate action. The safety and well-being of members, particularly women, should be a top priority for any fitness facility, and it is disconcerting that Movati Gym appears to fall short in this regard. The disparity between the promises made on the Movati website and the reality experienced by members is striking. While the website claims a commitment to member care, my personal experiences suggest that the primary focus is on enrolling new members and collecting fees. In conclusion, Movati Gym in Ottawa has undergone a concerning decline in quality, safety, and overall member experience. The issues raised here reflect a departure from the standards that initially attracted members to the gym. It is my hope that Movati Gym addresses these issues promptly and prioritizes the well-being and satisfaction of its members.
Negative experience: This place is going down a slippery slope…the cleanliness is becoming worse, things are breaking and not being fixed for months and the facility is missing amenities that are quite basic. After speaking to many club members it is commonly believed that the club member effect is no longer existent. Family swim with kids everywhere is not something you expect from a supposed high end club with a premium price (not hating on the families). The amenities are lacking in terms of maintenance and the amenities available. Things like the wood paneling falling apart in the sauna and dirty grout in the steam room are not acceptable. It would be nice to see new amenities that keep members wanting to come back such as a cold plunge, this is the voice of many members. I expect a premium treatment/feel for the premium price. Sucks to see the local gym deteriorating.
Fantastic experience: So glad I joined Movati. I signed up for person training with the amazing Ellen Paveley. She is so knowledgeable and has really helped me feel more confident in my fitness journey.
Negative experience: The shower heads in mens section are so terrible that it actually hurts your head. I have started loosing my hair because of it. Its some cheap china shower heads they are using. I would change the review to 5 star if this thing gets fixed
Negative experience: ZERO COMMUNICATION AMONG THEIR STAFF. They are running around confused. THIS LOCATION NEEDS SERIOUS TRAINING. staff hate their jobs. its obvious. EVERYTHING IS BROKEN. THEY EXPLOIT US and drain our money every month , EVEN THE 3RD WORLD COUNTRIES DONT HAVE IT THIS BAD. WORST MANAGEMENT EVER. they are so cheap that they do not want to fix anything. Their hot tubs is always under maintence, showers are all clogged, closets are broken. everything is damaged. Pay ppl to fix stuff instead of giving management $$$ to do nothing. Fix this or lose members.
Negative experience: Movati is ok but, the parking situation there, wow, it’s always so packed and you have to park so far and walk to the front. It’s a nice gym but their class policy of locking the door the minute the class starts is a little bit too strict. Plus all the popular classes are always full (ie hot yoga). I don’t know if I will be renewing on July. Plus it’s always full, waiting for showers, etc. They should make a new one in Nepean to accommodate the number of people they sell memberships to.
Fantastic experience: Jack Hogan suggested me a work plan when i signed uo for the gym. He was understanding and made the process seemless. Not to mention he is totally worth the money when it comes to personal training. 10/10 would recommend
Negative experience: Staff are so rude here. Repeatedly no one at the front desk during peak hours… can’t give out towels when there is no one at the desk and if you forget your pass there is no one to scan you in. Tried to follow my partner in since I didn’t have my pass and got screamed at by an employee and scolded when it is clearly their fault for having no one present at the desk to sign people in. Ridiculous customer service.
Negative experience: I went to my usual Sunday aqua class at 10 am. I walked into the class expecting only female staff but to my surprise there was a male life guard. I was so shocked that I went to check the application and there was nothing on the app indicating that there will be a male life guard and neither was there a sign at front desk. When I was at front desk to complain, the response I got was basically "too bad so sad". The girl told me that is who they have available and it is what it is. VERY disappointed and contemplating to never step foot in this Movati location.
Negative experience: I've been a member here for a year now - I signed on at Merivale because they had a sauna set between 85⁰ - 90⁰ Celsius - scientifically backed therapeutic levels Shortly after the Resolutioner rush died down, they dropped the sauna temperature to 65⁰ Celsius- well below the temperature for any therapeutic effects to occur They raised the temperature to 85⁰ Celsius in December 2023, but lowered it again to 70⁰ Celsius after the Resolutioner rush for 2024 - still below the therapeutic threshold Is this bait and switch to be expected every year?
Fantastic experience: Still a member almost 2 years now. Continue to be impressed with the instructors, the range of classes. There is something for you no matter your age and fitness level, whether you are looking for rehab or fun cardio. Also continue to have a personal trainer because it is so worth it !
Fantastic experience: Started PT sessions recently and working with Yuliya has been great. She’s wonderful. Motivating and very friendly. Excited for the journey with her!
Fantastic experience: Ellen is by far the best one-on-one trainer I have ever worked with. She understands my strengths/weaknesses and pushes me past my comfort zone in the healthiest way. Everyone deserves to have a chance to work with someone as knowledgeable as Ellen! I highly recommend her to anyone with fitness goals, beginner or advanced.
Fantastic experience: My trainer Abby is the absolute best! She's super friendly, kind, professional & I always look forward to my sessions with her.
Fantastic experience: I have been training with Abby, a performance coach at Movati Nepean for some months now, and she has been an absolute Joy to work with and has really pushed me to reach my fitness goals all while keeping a smile on my face! I highly recommend anyone looking to reach new heights in their fitness journey to consider Abby. Truly a great trainer!
Fantastic experience: I recently joined this Movati again after ~5 year hiatus from Ottawa, and have been enjoying it just as much as I did back then. There is always lots of variety; yoga, swimming, personal training, etc.! Ellen P.'s group classes are a blast and her one-on-one sessions make me want to train more and more!
Fantastic experience: Amazing gym and services. Completed a year of personal training with Abby. Best coach there is !
Fantastic experience: Amanda, Abby & Jacob are all amazing, hard working, intelligent trainers. I cannot recommend them enough!
Positive experience: Admittedly a new member but so far my experience has been great. Staff have been super personable and I can usually get any equipment I want (even during the post work rush) My only con is that there are never enough classes at times that I'd want to go. Feels like more evening classes are necessary at this point.
Fantastic experience: This facility is awesome! I switched over from Planet Fitness and couldn't be happier. I've been training with Ellen, one of their Performance Coaches, since December, and I can't sing her praises enough! When I first started, I couldn't even do a proper squat. Fast forward to now, and I'm rocking all the basic movements and actually building some muscle. Ellen's knack for tailoring programs to fit my physical needs and personal preferences is seriously impressive. She makes working out feel less like a chore and more like a customized, enjoyable experience. Plus, her positive vibes are infectious—always leaving the gym with a smile. If you're looking for a personal trainer who knows their stuff, keeps it fun, and genuinely cares about your progress, I highly recommend Ellen!
Fantastic experience: Been doing personal training and small group fitness classes a Nepean Movati for a while now and find it's really making the most of the time I spend at the gym - worth the investment!
Positive experience: The Men's change room smells disgusting I want to give three stars just cuz of that I prefer GoodLife even without the pool
Negative experience: Every time swimming pool close for cleaning or private class. This branch is really greedy because only care to make money by scheduling private classes and swimming pool most of time close for public. Also, their dryer around two weeks not working and they don't care and only they put one sign that is not working for part
Negative experience: I’ve always had problems with the front desk here. They’re very rude, never seem to understand what I’m asking for and no one is trained for doing very simple tasks. Ever since I started going as a guest and even now that I’ve taken over a friend’s membership the service has been inefficient. They’ve made me go in person unnecessarily for something that could’ve been solved by phone. They told me administration would give me a call and they never did. I’m now waiting for a refund because they charged both me and the previous owner of the membership for the biweekly payment. I’ll change my home club once I get the refund (if they’re even doing anything about it)
Negative experience: Decided to check this location out on my commute home from work since I usually frequent Trainyards. Location is weird. It’s newer than Trainyards but somehow feels more crowded/cramped. Also staff was weird and I got weird discriminatory/judgey vibes from them. They sent a front desk staff in after my fiancée and I - chased us into the co-ed change room (we were sharing a locker) to ask if we were going to scan in after? Yes?… obviously? Didn’t ask anyone else who came in after us so that’s why it felt a little targeted. I’ll stick to the tainyards location.
Fantastic experience: Great gym. Crowded but that’s a good thing for a business. It means that they’re doing things right. Sure, it sucks to have to wait for a machine or weights. So what, go do something else while you wait. Switch it up a bit.
Negative experience: Went for a tour. Seemed very overpriced for a gym full of creepy bros. Filling out the waiver compromised my credit card. Upon more digging it looks like someone did a man-in-the-middle (MITM) attack by either faking the QR code at the desk or using a fake cell tower. Had to get my card replaced. Maybe that weirdo who sits near the front desk with the laptop.
Fantastic experience: Dustin is one of the best custodians I’ve seen at this gym, he really pays attention to detail and I can tell he takes his job serious. Love to see this in the health and fitness industry!!!
Positive experience: What a great place! I was surprised at the negative responses about the management and staff there. I found them very friendly and very accommodating. I had a very pleasant experience there. It's clean. There's an area with a fireplace where you can sit and also you can purchase beverages like coffee, protein shakes etc.
Fantastic experience: I have signed up for Movati in Nepean a couple months ago and I have been going at least four days a week. I love everything about this gym. It is clean and friendly, there’s so much variety I have not even done half of it ! The hours are very convenient. It’s worth every penny. I also want to give a five star to Angella B… ! I sign up for every Zumba and Movati drum class with her because she makes it so much fun! She is an amazing instructor and she makes me look forward to exercise!!! ->which is a new feeling for me ha ha
Positive experience: Awesome classes, awesome womans only area, a bit too expensive, though, and you have to pay if you don't have a towel. Or you can up your membership to get towel service. Which is annoying. Everyone should get a towel.
Fantastic experience: Friendliness and Cleanliness are really noted at this location. Compared to their facilities in the east end, this location has a separate spot for yogis, which allows them to enjoy their workout without any other noises from the gym. Like all their other, you have high-quality equipment and feels like a club.
Positive experience: The facility itself is beautiful. But there is no one upstairs enforcing any rules at all. It's very disappointing because at one time it was the absolute best facility in the city in my opinion (compared to the other Movatis that is). But for the price I would expect the staff to be on top of things.
Positive experience: Being an early bird the interactions with the front desk staff is my first social interaction of the day ; shout-out to Meghan and Tanya for always providing a warm smile, effortless conversations when business inquiries are needed and consistent professionalism. While ensuring the gym is running smoothly for early risers, they are a true asset for a smooth operation.
Fantastic experience: It’s actually a bit disheartening reading all of the negative reviews because I love this place so much! I always feel amazing walking in and leave feeling better than when I arrived. I mostly go for the classes, pool and sauna - but do sometimes use the equipment. I don’t find it expensive at all for all of the amenities and options at your disposal. The issues that I’ve encountered (I.e. sauna not operating, heat not working in the hot yoga studio, rowing machine not working) have been quickly dealt with and are not something common I encounter. I’ve never found it unclean and often see staff constantly cleaning. I wish I had even more time to spend here, because you could easily spend 4+ hours here and it’s like a mini spa escape. I don’t have much experience with staff other than instructors but the ones I have encountered have been great. The parking lot does often overflow but there is lots of excess parking around and walking across the parking lot isn’t an issue. I will keep attending and recommending this place to others if things keep going as they are. As someone who would never otherwise consider joining a regular gym, I SO appreciate what this place does for my well being.
Negative experience: I have been a loyal member of Movati for a long time. It's understandable that maintenance costs may have increased, but the overcapacity enrollment issue has truly become unbearable!!!!! The lack of consideration from many members for proper use of a public facility these days is causing frustration for me and my family. What's interesting is that the parking capacity, which is often full, serves as evidence for this claim. I have decided to avoid renewing my membership. Perhaps if there is a better branch available in another neighborhood, I may consider rejoining this club.
Negative experience: The gym is great. Gita has got to be the most unprofessional and disrespectful staff.
Fantastic experience: I have been with Movati for over 8 years and believe it is a fabulous health club. Just recently I started working with the best Performance Coach ever, Ellen Paveley. She is very knowledgeable, knows her craft and makes working out fun. Not easy to do. Thank you Omar Elfarou as well for your professionalism.
Negative experience: The gym itself is great. The service from Gita is completely unprofessional and disrespectful. For my first week at movati to receive such service… is very disappointing.
Negative experience: Not a bad gym, but for the price very badly maintained , lots of equipment with neglect and rust, most cable machines or hooked workout bars/etc have rust all located around bolts built up into a powder from friction inside the bolts causing rust dust to stain clothing as well as get in eyes. It’s a gym after all so not the end of the world but just kind of a bummer sometimes , as well as not enough benches or equipment at the meadowlands one to support the gym rush ,
Fantastic experience: Love Movati. Great facilities and such fun and unique group classes
Negative experience: Poor management this club, it's going down hill! Broken equipments are disappeared (i.e Flexability posterior ), or delay fixing for several weeks ( i.e cloth water extractor). Men locker room is dirty, there is no cleaning in lockers. I was often using the pool and hot tub but less now. I saw few people with their underwear went to pool and hot tub. Compares to Kanata club, Kanata is much better even older facility.
Fantastic experience: Great staff, daycare, services, and group fitness instructors! I have been at the Nepean location for several months now and just started attending group classes. I am blown away at the positive energy and passion for the instructors. The variety of classes, yoga, pool, gym equipment gives this a 5/5! Worth every cent.
Fantastic experience: I take many classes per week: Range Of Motion, Restorative Yoga (regular and Zero Gravity), Aqua Fit, etc. Not only a "lifting things" and machines type of place (but it has that as well for people who like that).
Negative experience: Honestly it’s a nice gym, but the only thing I can complain about is reracking weights. The plates are always scattered and impossible to find, which is super frustrating. If you go to GoodLife they have staff who reorganize the plates at each machine, especially an end of shift walk through so that it’s reset for the next day. Here you show up when they open and everything is a scattered mess, it’s a great gym just super annoying. Just hire a coop kid or someone part time lol.
Negative experience: Edit: it has been six months roughly since I joined. The gym is exceptionally clean and some staff (Rose!) and instructors are great (Cheryl, Cathy, and Cindy!). Others are unwelcoming and rude. I will not attend Diane P’s classes again. Joined a week ago, and have used the weights and also attended three different classes. Everything is clean, instructors are so welcoming and helpful. Rose is a life saver!
Negative experience: Playroom: there are usually unsafe staff ratios for non-walking infants. Also, there is a policy that you need to remove sleeping infants from their car seat upon arrival for liability reasons. Considering the price you pay here for a childcare membership and general membership, I’d expect a bit more customer service from the management.
Fantastic experience: I recently had the pleasure of meeting a staff member named Connor as I rejoined the club after a Covid break. He was an absolute pleasure to work with and was so efficient that all the paperwork was pretty much done in 5-7 minutes. He is such a wonderful representative for Movati, and I look forward to many happy and healthy hours at this Meadowlands Movati..thank you Connor
Fantastic experience: I regularly go to the Trainyards Movati location, but decided to check out a class at this location the other day. It’s a step up from Trainyards in terms of esthetics- everything is so much newer! Although it’s further away for me, I’ll definitely return.
Negative experience: I am writing this review to express my frustration and disappointment with the service provided by Movati Athletic in Ottawa, specifically General Manager Samantha and Andrew front desk representative. My experience with this club has been extremely unsatisfactory, and I would not recommend it to anyone. My membership was unexpectedly terminated without my knowledge last year in London when all the gyms unexpectedly shut down, and I have been trying to resolve this issue for almost a year. Despite my numerous attempts to contact the club, I have received no response. Andrew, the front desk person, claims to have spoken to the manager on my behalf today but I have not been given the opportunity to explain my side of the story. Furthermore, during our meeting a few weeks ago, a General Manager promised to respond to my issues but failed to do so, leaving me feeling frustrated and ignored. This lack of communication and customer service is unacceptable, and I hope that this review will prompt Movati Athletic to take action and improve their services. In summary, I would not recommend Movati Athletic in Ottawa to anyone based on my experience with their poor customer service and lack of response to my complaints. I’ll be sticking with GoodLife Fitness from now on movati athletic staff members can careless about there members.
Fantastic experience: I have stayed at 5 star resorts that weren't as good as Movati Nepean. Friendly staff, great environment, superior equipment. Now I know what my friends mean when they talk about the "Movati Experience."
Fantastic experience: Fabulous facility and staff. Would highly recommend this gym. Great for all ages and abilities. Something for everyone! Love the booking system Movati - makes everything so easy.
Fantastic experience: Love this gym! I feel like I’m walking into a comfortable welcoming community! The staff is always friendly and welcoming! It is sooooo clean!!! Workers are constantly cleaning the change rooms! The classes are all super high quality with fabulous energetic motivating instructors! Busy before work and after work but quiet during the day! Not a problem trying to find an open machine or parking spot! Love this place!
Positive experience: They should add something to make the smell better in the fitting rooms and the showers, for men was disgusting today, but overall the gym is nice and most of the time clean. I hope if it’s become 24 hours or at least until 2 am 7days/week
Negative experience: Went to go my gym class and being 7 months pregnant had to pee before going in which made me one minute late. They wouldn't let me in the pool. Staff at front desk were rude and not understanding. Movati used to be awesome. Too busy now, classes are always full. Take your business elsewhere, I will be as soon as my contract is completed.
Fantastic experience: Always a great time there. My wife and I go swimming in the early morning. Probably the only pool in Ottawa always open at 5am!
Negative experience: Horrible gym. I’m currently a student and I joined the gym and was told I could cancel at any time without any consequences. I tried to cancel my membership today and they told me I could not and I had to give 1 month notice. Now I’m stuck paying for a membership for an extra month. I called and spoke to a supervisor and he told me he couldn’t do anything about it. Go with any other gym that allows you to cancel at any point.
Negative experience: Don’t ever go to this gym. Managers are always busy in meetings ( which they are not ) and the front desk will never help you because they say manager has authority.
Negative experience: Don't give them your phone number!!! They will call you and text you over and over again. When you block them, they will call you from another number and message like nothing is wrong. Had to ask them not to contact me several times. They also had the nerve to want to charge me almost $140 for a week of use. Ridiculous.
Negative experience: The DIRTIEST Movati ever!!!!!!!!! I am repulsed every time I enter the women's change room at this gym. I pay a substantial amount to have a dirty floor full of garbage, puddles, etc. It's absolutely repulsive. Along with the dirty change rooms, the machines are ALWAYS dirty, whether its dust/dirt or simply garabage left behind. I attend the gym almost everyday and for 4 days straight, a piece of gum was in the cup holder of a treadmill. IT WAS THERE FOR 4 DAYS!!! On top of that, the blonde cleaning lady in the women's section is rude. She was cleaning the carpet in the women's section and I said to her "oh sorry I feel bad walking on the carpet you just cleaned" and she replied with "well yeah, you should". I had no choice but to walk where she had cleaned and she was extremely rude. At least I had the decency to apologize for stepping on the floor.
Fantastic experience: I have been a longstanding member of Movati Athletic and the Merivale location staff as a whole are great to deal with. Friendly courteous and helpful. I had an issue that stemmed from a simple oversight at another location, but Joe went above and beyond to resolve the issue. His gesture was greatly appreciated. Keep up the great work everyone!
Negative experience: It's a very nice gym but it's getting way too busy now. Always a wait for things and now I can't even find a parking spot. Far from the enjoyable luxury this used to be. Staff is OK but don't really do anything other than say hello, machines are broken for far too long, I know parts take time to come in but man it's ridiculous. GET MORE THAN 3 BENCHES JEEZ
Negative experience: was swimming in the pool once when I saw body discharge floating in the water. I immediately left and never came back to this gym. I never felt so disgusted in my life and all those guests who glared at me for wearing goggles while swimming, well the joke is on you.
Positive experience: It's expensive, but is it worth it?Its clean, it use to be spacious and had packed machines in so much, they are in front of the elevator. The entrance to the pool is useless, multiple times I have sat there for 5min+ buzzing. Where I have to go out in my swim suite to the lobby and ask them to open the door. The people at the front get real busy at times, get distracted by their personal phones, or just have one person serving both the smoothy bar and the front desk. I get that told this is rare but this has happened more than five times in 2 months. It needs to change! Equipment is quickly repaired from all the minor times I've seen them breakdown and at the same time, I have been known to bring my own tools in, to fix equipment that has been broken for a year, reported the issue a few times and no one seems to know this machine even has an issue, every time. The sauna and steam room, after a work out, feels like a mini spa treatment. Is it worth the price? I am leaning towards, no.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely love it here! There are so many options. Tons of cardio and weight equipment so you are never waiting around for a machine to open up. A huge variety of classes for every level and interest. Seperate women's area is bonus, including seperate pool. On top of that, there's an infrared sauna, steam room and hot tub. Is it as cheap as other gyms? No, you are definitely paying for all of this. But if you start calculating how much it costs to take just one class through the city or elsewhere, or how much you pay to go to the spa to use saunas, etc, you quickly realize you are getting your money's worth.
