Our comment from FitFit Canada about MOVATI Athletic Trainyards:
Movati Athletic Trainyards, located in Ottawa, Canada, offers a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere, highlighted by exceptional service from friendly staff members like Solomon and Ben, known for their enthusiasm and dedication to customer satisfaction. Members appreciate the variety of group classes and the cleanliness of the gym, contributing to a positive workout experience.
However, some users have expressed concerns regarding the maintenance of equipment and overall facility cleanliness, particularly highlighting issues in the women's showers and changing areas. Furthermore, the location can become extremely busy, leading to challenges in accessing equipment during peak hours.
The gym is praised for its friendly staff and great class offerings, but some members have reported frustrations with customer service, particularly during the registration process and regarding contract policies. Overall, while there are areas for improvement, Movati Athletic Trainyards remains a well-loved gym for many fitness enthusiasts, providing a good balance of amenities and community spirit.
Services, Machines and Guided Classes
MOVATI Athletic Trainyards: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Exceptional service from Solomon.Welcomed me with great energy and made a delicious smoothie! Made my morning. Have been a member here for 7 years.
Negative experience: Extremely rude service when trying to sign up. Was offered a 1 week free trial but since I was already interested in this specific gym, I asked if there was other options available. Melissa said if getting fit was not incentive for me then this gym is not a good fit for me. Extremely rude when I am just trying to see if there are other offers available in a tough economy.
Negative experience: Bad customer service, broken equipment, poop smell coming from the drains. Experience decreased with time. leaving, been a member since 2017. Three months for a leg curl machine to be replaced. Chest press machine held up with workout plates indefinitely. The pool ladder was corded off with caution tape for a month cause it needed a screw lol. It's becoming run down because terrible corporate culture.
Negative experience: This is the worst gym I’ve ever been to. Don’t ever join this gym
Negative experience: I was interested in a membership. Didn't care too much about price, I could easily afford it. However they wanted me to sign a contract and provide my bank account information. This is a red line for me, this is just a 1000/year membership, it's not a car/bank loan.... Offered to pay cash, they refused, stating they don't accept cash or CC, saying CC is proned to fraud. Which makes no sense, since I didn't ask to pay with CC, and there are 100s of thousands of retailers/stores in Canada that have no issue accepting CC, including other gyms.... It looked pretty busy, I assume all their members complied handing over their bank info. This is crazy imo, why give a gym access to pre authorized withdrawals from your bank account?!?! Banks give you very little protection to fraud unlike CC, you also could get hit with NSFs.
Fantastic experience: The customer service at Movatti Athletic is excellent. Ben, the accountant, is very welcoming and takes the time to explain everything clearly, offering great deals. The gym itself is clean, well-organized, and despite being quite busy, it never feels overcrowded. This location might have more members than others, but it’s still a fantastic experience, and I really enjoyed my time here.
Fantastic experience: Great customer service and friendly staff highly recommend. The guys at the front desk truly value pleasing their members and keep them happy
Negative experience: This location is not well kept and maintained. The women’s showers have mold in every corner. The sauna and steam rooms works on some days. The baiting suit dryer doesn’t work most of the time. Honestly not worth for what you pay.
Negative experience: *******THE GYM IS AT CAPACITY******* Been going here since it was Athletic Club, if you are debating getting a membership to train at trainyards please be courteous and think of the people already training here. You cant get any machines that you are planning to use for your training day regardless of the time of day you go. They seriously need to open another location in the South End or something to take some of the load off of trainyards.
Fantastic experience: Selemna is the best guy i have ever got served with, he always smile and very welcoming
Positive experience: Great location. Sales man was great and helpful Brett. Thank you But front desk has horrible costumer service. For real terrible. Do better
Negative experience: Lately going to the trainyards location women’s only section has not been a great experience. The TVs have not been working for months, one treadmill has been broken since February. Weights and kettle bells are left all over the gym and there is no supervision for people constantly taking selfies on the machines. On top of that, the gym is always short staffed on the weekend and there is no one at the juice bar. I feel for the amount of money we pay, there should be a little more done to ensure everyone has a great experience
Fantastic experience: These guys are awesome very polite very professional people work in this place. I appreciate each and everyone of you specially, Philip made me the best protein shake God bless guys. Keep up the good work.
Negative experience: Straight up the worst gym I’ve ever been to. It costs a fortune, smells real bad, always muggy and hot, you’ll wait 20 minutes if you plan on using any specific machine, nobody is held accountable for gym etiquette so weight plates are all over the place, the change rooms are horrid but my least favourite thing about it is the atmosphere, it’s the worst. I could keep ranting for hours but I don’t want to.
Fantastic experience: Gyms are not for me (as I prefer being active outdoors), but my partner and I really enjoyed our personal training sessions with Bryanna. She is knowledgeable, motivating, and flexible. For example, when I injured my ankle, she created workouts that would not aggravate my injury and also provided me with stretches and exercises to strengthen my ankle. Movati you are lucky to have her. I highly recommend!
Negative experience: These entitled clowns really had me locked into a contract that I couldn't afford to get out of until I paid back every payment I couldn't afford to make because I couldn't afford to cancel it. I never even went to the gym during this time. I had spoken to everyone including the GM who basically said "tough luck you signed the contract". We're talking hundreds of dollars these crooks stole from me while my family and I were struggling to make ends meet. Absolutely shameful. Save your money, don't sign a contract with scammers who try to get you with some unnecessary and stupid clause in a contract for a gym membership. Oh and get this when you cancel request you still have to pay for 2 more payments before it processes and cancels lol. What a dumb policy.
Fantastic experience: Excellent location. Very friendly staff, plenty of great equipment, always clean.
Fantastic experience: I am extremely happy with the help I got from Ben while onboarding at Movati Athletic Trainyards location. I highly recommend visiting Movati and ask for Ben!
Fantastic experience: I joined Movati Athletic in October of last year, and it has been an exceptional experience from day one. The gym offers a large variety of group classes, all led by skilled and enthusiastic instructors who make every session engaging and enjoyable. The equipment is well-maintained, and the changing rooms and showers are always clean, which is very important to me. As a young woman, I especially appreciate the women’s only section of the gym—it’s a fantastic bonus that makes me feel even more comfortable and at ease during my workouts. Overall, Movati Athletic provides an outstanding environment for fitness enthusiasts of all levels. Highly recommend!
Negative experience: The staff is nice…. The change room smells terrible. The hot tub and pool (my reason for getting a membership) smells like sewage! Also, every single time I’m in there, someone comes in the hot tub wearing dirty underwear off the street! Now, in my second month of membership, Movati charged my account for six extra weeks by mistake. This was on a Friday afternoon, so they didn’t fix it until Tuesday. Yep, they took an extra $191 out of my account. That put me into overdraft incurring an additional charge from my Bank, and also left me stranded for the weekend. I had two photoshoots planned that weekend. But with my account empty, I could not do the shoots. I’m on disability with a broken spine. I’m still trying to work, but Movati prevented me from working that weekend. I’m a photographer, I’m also VERY sick! And every cent is accounted for!!! I absolutely can not trust a company that will take my money like this! And do nothing about it! You guys cost me two photoshoots!!! TWO! I will NEVER go back to Movati! One year commitment! LOL!!!! We shall see about that! Edit: They did refund the money. But left me with an overdraft charge, and did nothing about all my lost time and work. And they STILL are holding me to the 1 year commitment!!! Excuse ME???! Do NOT get a membership at Movati!!! They are criminals!!!! I can’t give negative stars!!!! I would if I could!! Thanks again Movati!!! You guys cost me $900!!!
Fantastic experience: I’ve been reading these reviews for fun, and I get the impression that I have been attending a different gym. Nothing is perfect in life, friends, not even when you pay for it. For my part, I love Movati. The staff is great, including the cleaning staff, and I always leave the gym feeling better than when I arrived. (Some of the clients are a bit annoying, but that’s another matter…) I don’t use classes, so I can’t say anything about them, but my wife does spinning and yoga and she is satisfied as well. Basically, it’s money well spent. Thanks!
Negative experience: Not a fan of Movati. Difficult to register for classes which seem to always fill up early. Have been a member at different gyms (GoodLife, Greco, OAC) and have never experienced problems like this. If want good classes then spend the extra money and go to OrangeTheory or the Fitness Lab. Movati is just extremely frustrating and I find that now I am working out more at home due to lack of options. Maybe the locations in the suburbs like Barrhaven and Kanata are better but that doesn’t help me.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff. Clean facility. Many equipment to use and workout with. Large changing areas. Nice cafe bar post and pre workout. Recommend Movati Athletic.
Negative experience: I go to Moati in the afternoons after work and after all the sports training. I like to use the hot tub along with the pool, but unfortunately, the pool is always closed because there is a class in session, and I am quite upset about this.
Negative experience: Horrible club, ants all in the women’s only sauna and change room. 100$ per month you’d expect better.
Negative experience: Say they close at 8 pm but « closes » things such as saunas at 7:30 pm. A bit frustrating since I’m here already, why can’t I go for 15 minutes? Then you should say you close at 7:30 pm. Hygiène at that location also not the best. Avoiding wet sauna there at all cost.
Negative experience: Constantly overcrowded, impossible to find parking, broken machines, rude staff, getting side eyed every time you ask for a towel. Not worth the luxury price you’re paying for a membership. Showers are nice though.
Negative experience: This is the ghetto movati. People working out in full denim, loafers, and chains. A lot of people dont have their locks and bring their bags with them everywhere. People leave their chewed gum everywhere, wear their underwear in the hot tub/pool... disgusting. There is no squeegee in the wet sauna to wipe other people's sweat. The staff do not enforce a single rule in this place and can barely say hello when you walk in. If you're on the bi-weekly payment plan, you have to give 1 months notice to cancel or pay for the remainder of the next month. There is no mention of this on their website.
Negative experience: Got a 2week guest pass. Was thinking about switching to movati. Facility is great. Terrible customer service. Condescending desk person at terry fox lication. Took only 3 days to give them back their free pass. What joke.
Negative experience: My ongoing experience at this gym is nothing short of a disgrace. The lockers are a sorry sight, hanging off the hinges with up to three hooks missing inside. The men's dry sauna has been falling apart for months, and the staff seems oblivious to any repair efforts. The toilets were clogged at 5 AM, missing toilet seats as the cherry on top of this embarrassment. Downstairs, the water fountain is out of order, and a multitude of machines upstairs are left unrepaired for weeks at a time. To add insult to injury, there's a consistent absence of shampoo and body wash even in the morning – the dispensers always shamefully empty. It leaves me questioning the competence of those running this place – perhaps Stevie Wonder is in charge?
Negative experience: Front desk unresponsive and not helpful. The gym is dirty especially the first floor and men’s change room.
Negative experience: I've tried this location a few times and have been disappointed every single time! The staff is very rude and will never say hi! The gym is dirty, machines are broken and during summer it's impossible to workout in the weight area BCS of the bad odour
Negative experience: The negative reviews speak for themselves. Do yourself a favour & don't ignore them. Mostly these members are not lying or exaggerating based on my experience being a member here I can attest to most of it. If you don't read this whole review, PLEASE READ YOUR MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENT WITH A FINE TOOTH COMB. YES, THIS GYM IS ONE OF THOSE PLACES THAT WILL LIE AND ROB YOU IN HEARTBEAT. If you're okay with paying approx. 1.2k a year for equipment that works sometimes, washrooms/changing rooms that are clean sometimes with a sprinkle of IDGAF service & safety issues, sign up! Sanitation, disorganization, bad equipment, dishonest/rude staff & etc. ALL that aside, THE MOST IMPORTANT thing is that if you have a concern, problem or emergency of any kind, I can just about guarantee that it will fall on deaf ears. The most basic and most important thing in all service industries is customer care and they fail monumentally in that category. I've had several bad experiences here but more recently my #MOVATINIGHTMARE experience is that they sold me on the most expensive plan by saying I could not pay ''aka freeze'' my membership for 3 months and still attend the gym which would save me about $300 annually making the overall cost cheaper than other gyms. Well to my surprise, when I tried to freeze my account & go about my workout, they refused to let me in & had a pay up or leave attitude. Needless to say, management didn't do a single thing to help or take any form of accountability for the so called misunderstanding. They offered that I could freeze my account and pay $5 a day anytime I choose to visit. The math: 7 days a week @ $5= $35/week when I currently pay $25 a week. They literally tried to rob me more sdmh. Amenities & classes are hit or miss with this location mostly miss with this being the worst gym I've been to overall (comparing to Goodlife & Fir4less). I'm eager to see a competitor deliver what MOVATI pretends to offer.
Negative experience: Hit or miss for service. Some staff are wonderful others can be extremely rude or difficult to work with. Facilities are also a hit or miss as far as sanitary conditions go, more referring to the steam room. My little brothers personal trainer Brandon and a few others are great
Positive experience: Love everything about the place, just have noticed since joining, the bathrooms are very dirty and two stalls for all the guys, each time I’ve wanted to use it, there is urine around the floor and seat and often it smells like each member paid a visit before going to exercise. I love this club, just hope they keep it clean.
Positive experience: It’s clean and lots of cardio equipment but if you come between 4-8 you will always be waiting for weight machines. People work out in groups and tend to hog several machines between them or do like 10 sets and scroll their phones in between tying up one machine for 15 mins, weight room is actually busy till closing , just a younger crowd, there is only one leg extension machine and so it’s almost impossible to get a chance on it, lastly parking lot often full and you have to park over near the stores, not a huge inconvenience but all the above indicates to me they have too many members and there is a need for another gym in this general vicinity serving downtown to Gloucester.
Positive experience: Love this gym , great staff, awesome facility , the only issue is that every time a new member joins with no gym etiquette nothing is done by staff . I can never use the sauna/ jacuzzi without someone using their cell phone inside ruining the experience, in the gym people never put their weights back, sit at machines for 20 minute while they text or reserve two machines on opposite sides on the gym not allowing anyone else to use it The simple solution would be to have one person walk through the entire gym making sure clients respect the rules of the gym Recently I see alot of people training in flip flops ! It’s disgusting Bring back gym etiquette otherwise your I’ll loose your regulars One more thing put a sign that says NO water on the sauna machine it’s broke twice and you guys haven’t done anything to address it, not to mention put a NO Cell phone sign on that door or I might just buy one for you guys from Canadian tire and slap it on myself Thank you
Fantastic experience: Due to family circumstances I'm in Ottawa from Vancouver for 2 weeks and Movati has been such a great escape and distraction. So many class options, friendly staff and clients and I love the inclusive environment. Also compared to BC pricing, the value is insane!! Next time I'm in Ottawa, I will be back and I hope you open out West. Thank you :)
Negative experience: Unfortunately this location is the worst Movati in Ottawa. You can submit repair request through the Movati app or to the managers on site and the repairs will still not be completed. Hopefully someone from management not from this location does a site walk before the end of 2023 to see the blatantly obvious equipment repairs that are required. We shouldn't have broken seats and machines for 6 months on end.
Fantastic experience: Really positive experience with this gym. As with most gym memberships, there are guidelines and a time commitment you are making when you sign up. Kate was really helpful, open and knowledgeable when answering all my questions. Couldn’t be happier with my time at this location.
Fantastic experience: “I love this gym! Movati has all the amenities I need, and the front desk staff , especially Kate ,always put a smile on my face (I especially love the towel animals they make). Overall Movati trainyards is an amazing gym, and I couldn’t recommend anywhere else in Ottawa.
Fantastic experience: I can't say enough positive things about my experience at Movati. From the moment I walk through the doors, I'm greeted with a warm and friendly atmosphere that sets the tone for an excellent workout. The staff, especially Kate at the front desk, consistently go above and beyond to make every visit enjoyable! I especially appreciate the variety of equipment the gym offers, as well as the option to use the women's only area.
Negative experience: The club support employee, Shanna is extremely unprofessional. Yelling from the smoothie bar to the front desk at employees to greet every member when she should be pulling them aside the tell them that, instead of embarrassing the employees. Flirting with the employee (Lucas) and has gotten jealous when other female employees interact with him. I have been working out at this location for years and have never saw such unprofessionalism.
Negative experience: After cancelling my membership and speaking to the general manager mat, they kept taking money from my bank account. Brad is the new general manager, and he Refused to refund my money after cancelling my membership. I can only think of it this way. “STEALING”
Negative experience: Similar to other reviews, the locker rooms are not clean, especially for the price we pay for this gym. Greasy locker handles, very dirty floors, mildewy-smelling showers, poor air circulation.
Negative experience: No rating, just a comment that I was reviwing this establishment and considering getting a membership, but there are so many negative comments, I have decided to look elsewhere. Thanks for the reviews as it has allowed me to make an informed decision to not join this facility.
Negative experience: Becareful befor registering with Movati. The policy for registration and payment is absolutly bad. They charge your bank account without your knowledge and the local gym won’t take the responsibility! Always refer you to head office!
Fantastic experience: Dear Mr. Tyler, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart Mr. Tyler, for what you did for me today. This most amazing man that I have never met or spoken before in my life, helped me by going above and beyond to get my issue resolved. I won’t discuss details of the issue for his own privacy, but I can tell you that he put tears in my eyes cause of how he treated me and helped me in this situation and time of need. I couldn’t believe how much he really cared about helping me, and he doesn’t know me. I will definitely be praying for this man and his entire family. May God Bless all his family, friends and colleagues.
Negative experience: I traveled an hour to attend a class I had pre-registered to participate in- surprise surprise! they started the class early and locked out all participants who didn't happen to be there at the time the instructor felt like beginning the class. For such high membership costs, I expect some consideration towards the commitment of time and money that members allocate towards their health journey...
Fantastic experience: I’ve been a member a year now and I love! Great amenities, clean locker room, good location. I also wanted to speak on a past 1 star review I saw, upset about no late entries to yoga class…. I personally am SUPER glad they’re strict about this because there’s nothing more annoying, stressful, disruptive, and rude than someone arriving past the start of class time. You’re supposed to get there 5-10 minutes before class starts, find a spot, set up quietly, and start relaxing on your mat When ONE person comes in late, it’s very disruptive to the other 30+ people who managed to make it on time. It can sting if it was truly out of your control but disrupting a whole class is never appropriate. My drive to the gym takes 10 minutes. I give 5 for parking and walking in. I give 5 for getting up to the studio. That’s a theoretical 20 minutes total from my door to yoga class door. I leave my house 30 mins early, so I don’t have to stress. With me attending 3-7 yoga classes/week over the last year- I’ve only missed two due to lateness ♀️ I sincerely hope Movati doesn’t rethink this policy.
Fantastic experience: Love this Gym, staff are wonderful. Great selections of exercise machine and in the ladies area. This is the second time now I’ve joined this Gym just love it
Positive experience: Decent place but pricey.. classes are included in monthly fee so thats good but if youre not using all the amenities then you are wasting your money. A huge part of the gym is women only but they dont pay more for fees so if youre typical male ok paying for women to have more than you then youre good. They took the stretching area out of a private area and placed it right in the middle of all the cardio machines.. not sure why they felt the need to do that but ive stopped stretching because if it. just not as comfortable. For the above reasons I have decided to go to a less expensive gym near me.
Negative experience: The policy regarding class lateness lacks consideration and is not conducive to a client-friendly environment. While I genuinely appreciate the efforts put into maintaining discipline and order, I believe the strict enforcement of the one-minute late policy is causing unnecessary stress and negatively impacting the overall client experience. I am a member of this gym primarily because I value the opportunity to participate in the yoga classes as a means to de-stress and improve my overall well-being. Yoga, for me and many others, is not just a physical activity but also a mental and emotional sanctuary where we seek solace from the demands of daily life. The one-minute late policy, which prohibits entry to the yoga class even if you're only slightly delayed, feels excessively rigid and inconsiderate. I understand the importance of punctuality, but it's equally important to acknowledge the realities of life. There may be instances when factors beyond our control, such as traffic, unforeseen delays, or personal emergencies, cause us to arrive just one minute late. The strict adherence to this policy has turned what should be a relaxing and stress-relieving experience into a source of anxiety for me and, I suspect, for other attendees as well. It is disheartening to feel that one minute can negate our commitment to self-care and well-being. I kindly request that the gym management reconsider this policy and take a more compassionate approach to class punctuality. I believe that a more lenient approach, such as allowing a brief grace period or allowing latecomers to join without disrupting the class, would be a much more client-friendly and stress-reducing alternative. Ultimately, our goal as gym members is to enhance our physical and mental health, and I believe that a more flexible policy regarding punctuality would align better with this objective. I genuinely hope that Movati, Trainyards will consider my feedback and work towards creating a more welcoming and stress-free environment for all members.
Negative experience: This location does not maintain its equipment, and will not fix it until it becomes a safety issue. Once it’s up for repair, they take over a couple months to get fixed. I.e. hamstring curl machine out of service since no later than Jul 31st- it is now Sept 12. Edit: They have decided to outright remove the leg extension machine - letting 1 machine serve a gym that is supposed to fit 100+ members at once. This location has become way too complacent. 2nd edit: cant make it ip. A bench needs to be replaced, leaving the gym with only 2 bench press machines. This time, they promise to have it fixed in a week (by Nov 14). 3rd edit: about half a year now, leg extension machine is yet to be replaced.
Negative experience: Good gym but horrible hours. Closes at 11:30pm on a friday, 8pm on the weekends and midnight monday to Thursday. Meanwhile goodlife, anytime, and fit4less are all 24 hours. Some goodlifes are not but many are. Every movati closes way to early. The fact that its the most expensive gym out of the 4 and the hours are this bad is why ill be switching gyms.
Negative experience: I’ve been a member at this gym for a long time now and for the first time, I was 2 minutes late for an Aqua class. The instructor yelled at me, humiliated me in front of 20 other people and treated me like 3 year old kindergarten student. When I talked to management they all backed up her unprofessional behaviour and said it’s the gym’s policy to not be late for even 2 minutes. My question is how can you allow the instructor to insult or misbehave towards their gym members like that? Does this give her permission to talk or treat a gym member like this? When I asked to cancel my membership due to that unprofessional behaviour, humiliation and disrespect, and the negative behaviour without any penalty, the manger asked me to transfer my membership to someone and that he can’t cancel it. So I’m stuck with this rude unprofessional environment gym until January 2024. Even though i wanted to cancel my membership and I don’t want to go back to that gym ever again because of that instructor’s behaviour and the way she treated me. On top of that, the manager said she talked to me unprofessionally and insulted me because I was 2 minutes late so I was the reason who gave her chance to treated me that unprofessionally. I can’t believe how he can cover that unprofessional and disrespectful behaviour by blaming me, when I’m the victim here. No wonder the instructor was that so rude, unprofessional with bad behaviour. She knew that her management team will cover her nicely. Very disappointed ☹️
Negative experience: I'd reconsider joining this gym. A big perk is the classes you can sign up to but they changed their 'no show' policy to have a ridiculously short time frame before cancelling in the SUMMER! Basically, you can cancel two hours ahead of the class, but if you don't (e.g. cancel 1 hour and 59 minutes before) that's one strike. You get 3 strikes and then can't book again for TWO WEEKS from the LAST DAY you didn't cancel within the 2 hour window! This still applies to extremely popular classes that people are dying to get in (i.e. Pilates) and fill up anyway. In addition, the reminder timer they set for you for the class is 30 minutes ahead. It's a policy that discourages people to work out and to enjoy something that's a perk from the very expensive gym you're signing up for. I also couldn't come to a class because of tornados touching down and they don't even consider things like that. Very frustrating.
Fantastic experience: I LOVE the women only section ! Also, whoever had the idea to switch to a relaxing spa music in the lockers (women section) deserves a raise ! Also, they had late evening classes this past Ramadan which was an OUTSTANDING idea! I hope they keep it moving forward :)
Fantastic experience: MOVATI is the best place to change your body mind and confidence shape…yes….I really appreciate the staff who always there yo help you out. The trainer are well educated to understand your needs. They put whole heart to bring your desired results. The gym is fully equipped with all types of fitness equipment.Pool,Hot yoga classes,Zumba classes are all good n have well trained people. There protein shake parlour is also great .Overall you will experience a positive vibe environment.
Negative experience: I love the gym but always a problem play room closed on any Holliday not even a Stat or it close early or it's just never open does the owner of this gym not relise that when your expecting to use something that is offerd and it's never open it makes things very difficult more parents need to send him complaints about this problem
Negative experience: I was using their pool one morning and when I was done, all the doors were locked and I could not leave the pool area. It took 20 minutes and a call on their emergency phone for them to even notice I was there and let me out. When I brought my concerns to the front desk about what if there was a real emergency, they said the pool area has cameras, but when I asked how they didn't notice someone pulling on doors and knocking on the window for 20 minutes trying to leave, they did not have an answer. I attempted to reach out to the manager Matt to address these safety concerns, but I have not been able to contact him. I would not recommend using the pool at this location until these serious safety concerns are addressed.
Fantastic experience: Update 2024 Now it’s way better they have new crew they are really nice all of the employee very professional thank movati I give 5 start from 1 star ………. Yesterday I was at the train yard movati Between 5 pm to 9 pm just here like a barn. I thing they have more client then capacity also one of the employee so rude for every one he has yellow hair his look like a … never come Again this location.
Negative experience: The gym is great however, the manager Mat is absolutely useless! I called him and left multiple voicemails and emails. The reception even said that Mat never tells anybody when he is in or out. Very irresponsible! He never responded my calls or emails. If I could give him 0 here I would! Not sure how he even got the job he is doing nothing for this place! I reported him to the general office and waiting to hear back! This place should be managed by someone more responsible! Disappointed!
Positive experience: Gym is really nice and is a relatively great atmosphere. However, one of the men at the front "Ross" is extremely rude and I've seem him swear at other members and staff. Not a very pleasant experience when that's the first thing you see when you come into the gym. Other than him, the gym is great! Classes are nice, pools are clean!
Negative experience: Showers and change rooms are dirty. Shower floors have stuff gucked up meaning their idea of cleaning the shower floors is probably just to rinse it with a hose which i've seen them do. They need to be cleaned more regularly with cleaners and not just rinsed (they need to be hard scurbed very important health please you need to clean the dry Sauna and shower and the steam room every day two time we see a lot dist everywhere some people when they finish exercise they going directly to dry Sunna or steam room this not healthy very important healthy people not just the money or the hour we have same problem with Good Life Fitness and YMCA the health department they didn't care about people they care about business ,The day pass very expensive ,The biggest mistake made by sports clubs is regarding entry for only one day. The amount is very expensive, 33 dollars per day. This amount is for those who do not have a membership, and this is very expensive. An appropriate amount must be set, 15 dollars with the tax, so that many people come to the club. This is a mistake made by this club and other clubs. Increasing entry is very expensive, especially for those who do not have membership, and this is considered a big mistake for the future of this club
Negative experience: Locking the doors for a 9:00 class before 9:00 is stupid. Just make the classes start later or alternatively have the time be earlier. The gym is overpriced anyway and their new policies are overly restrictive. Also not enough machines. I've been to gyms for half the price with better machine selection.
Negative experience: Decreasing quality of instructors. Unable to keep high tier instructors such as Kristy S due to their lack of desire to pay instructors sufficiently. If quality yoga instructors are the reason for your signup save yourself the trouble and go on YouTube. Only able to afford elderly/low energy as the young/energetic ones look elsewhere for employment leaving mostly 65+ instructors to teach. They are decreasing their training schedules, and quality of instructors, in addition to increasing prices for enrollment. The only saving grace is the steam room which is notorious for being the weakest of the movati locations in Ottawa. In addition to all the aforementioned problems they also have a 2 hour cancellation policy so if you get into an accident or other emergency less than 2 hours before class you acquire a strike. If you acquire 2 strikes within 2 weeks you are banned from classes which is the only thing that slightly justifies the overpriced memberships. Extremely disappointing decrease in quality, will be cancelling my membership at end of month. Spend your money elsewhere in a time when cost of living is increasing.
Negative experience: Seems really nice. Went on a tour of the facility but they wouldn't offer me a one-day trial to really try things out. That tells me that they don't really believe in their products and that they're more interested in taking advantage of people with long-term and extremely expensive contracts. There's a reason the reviews of this location and others aren't overly positive. Unless you need your gym to be a status symbol, go to Goodlife or another more affordable option
Negative experience: The staff are awful and just want your money. They don’t care about you, just your dollar. Avoid at all costs. They have loopholes all over their contract which will result in them robbing you of your money. Wouldn’t expect much more from people who inflate their muscles rather than their intelligence Support local businesses!! Find a small gym in your neighbourhood. You’ll get a better experience overall with better prices and a human experience that will leave you more satisfied than these money hungry corporate monsters ever could.
Fantastic experience: Love it, my go to Movati. Not as new or big as Merivale or Kanata but the overall experience is very good as are the staff at the club. PS. love the towel origami(?) I have been seeing all week haha.
Negative experience: I ordered a smoothie today and tried to use a gift card my husband gave me to pay for it. The person at the counter told me it was expired, and that they expired after 90 days. I told them that my husband wasn’t told of any such expiry date. They went to check and then returned to say that it wasn’t expired, but there wasn’t enough money on it for my drink, which was why they thought it was expired. They then proceeded (after all this!!) to charge me 38 cents extra for my drink. Do these people not have any sense of good customer service? Surely after making me wait and delivering bad information they could have waived the 38 cents! Seriously bad customer service!
Fantastic experience: I love this gym. Great classes. Great staff. One down side is there are a TON of snooty regulars who give side eye to plus size gym goers and/or to children. I bring my baby to the daycare there so I can work out and get side eye. People need to remember they don't own the gym. But that is not on the gym. It is the gym goers. The staff are great and the equipment is great!
Negative experience: I gave it 2 stars for at least greeting me upon my entrance. I went there for a 7pm appointment even after getting a text 2 hours earlier about being on time. I wait no longer than 15 minutes at work and did the same. My time is valuable and so I walked out after explaining I did not appreciate the wait. I got the "several folks called out" excuse then you let your customers know you are running behind and allow me to decide IF I want to reschedule instead of trapping me.
Fantastic experience: I dont know what s with all the low rating and the hating! Gym s top Notch bottom line!! Coming from good life enjoying a new experience and looking forward to progress in my endeavours!!
Fantastic experience: I've been a member for a few years, off and on given the pandemic. I have found that they've improved a lot over the years and it feels like a well-managed gym. It is always clean, the variety in group fitness classes is excellent, the functional workout area (fuel studio) is really great, and the staff are friendly.
Negative experience: Joined for the fuel studio as I train functional fitness regularly however it’s increasingly annoying to find time as most of the equipment and the only track ( sled) in the the area is used by so many classes. Even if you get the space before the class , you are asked to leave. What’s the point of paying membership as such if you can’t use the space ? It’s not like other areas of the gym support this type of training and I always make sure to go in at low times when there isn’t to many there. Trainers should be urged to stagger their classes in different group circuits to ensure other members can use the area.I’d rather go back paying double to use a CrossFit open gym for this .
Fantastic experience: Great gym experience with lots of equipment, a pool, hot tub, sauna & steam room. Whether working with machines or free weights there is plenty of space and can still distance when it's busy. The staff are friendly and change rooms clean.
Negative experience: I do not recommend Movati. It's extremely overpriced and I've been trying to end my membership for three months and it still isn't cancelled. The cancellation process is very convoluted and the staff drag their feet to make it happen. My membership was $42 bi-weekly + 75$ Registration Fee and they lock you in for a full year contract but you can't cancel until after your membership term is over and then your membership isn't ACTUALLY cancelled until 30 days later so you end up paying for an additional month assuming you remembered to notify them (in writing / in person). The facilities are beautiful but the atmosphere focuses on high performance fitness more than overall health. There's a pool, sauna, steam room, and showers in the change room. It's typically fairly busy but it is a large facility. The downstairs is a crossfit-type area, the ground floor is ladies-only and the lobby (with a smoothie bar) and the upstairs has the machines, free-weights and the cardio section. Convenient location in Trainyards and if you enjoy doing classes like yoga or spin then it is possible to make the cost worth it but I found they were always full or during work hours.
Negative experience: Writing this as I am leaving the men’s change room. Crusted underwear that’s left on the dressing room bench, towels everywhere, 22 yo kid vaping beside. Front staff are 16 yos who work the bare minimum. Honestly just stay at fit4less or anytime fitness instead of paying 41$ biweekly. Leaving in 2 months after my year is up.
Fantastic experience: This health club makes it a joy to work out! I have been a member for several years and I go there to work out on a daily basis. I am so glad that they seem to be thriving even post pandemic. I am always greeted with a smile by the front staff and have never witnessed any rudeness from any of them. Recently, they have been updating the facilities and have added lots of new equipment. I have trained with several personal trainers over the years and have progressed rapidly with every single one. I have taken yoga classes and enjoyed several of the group fitness classes. All the instructors are helpful and fun. I give them high marks. After a good workout, I enjoy having a sauna and shower in the clean facilities. It's been amazing for my health and i want to thank everyone that I have been in contact with over the years!
Negative experience: Very disappointed, I got my boots stolen and there answered was our managers will call you back. Obviously no one called me. When I followed up there answer was if you want us to check the cameras you must do a police report and you can email our manager and he will respond at his earliest convenience. They ask to leave your boots in the lobby and have a camera but if something happens they use a disclaimer were not responsible for stolen items.
Fantastic experience: I had a tour with Julia Manley last Saturday and it was the best experience I’ve ever had touring a gym! She was welcoming, knowledgeable, and able to answer every question I had. I was so impressed by how friendly the front desk staff were and how clean all the facilities are. I’m so excited for my next visit!
Positive experience: I love this location. I've been a member for about 3 months now and it's one of my favourite gyms. The cleanliness, the staff hospitality and the wide range of classes/resources is a big reason ('pros'). The upkeep/management of the equipment leaves a bit to be desired ('cons') but overall this is a club I would recommend to anyone who values having a great place to keep bettering themselves through... CLIENT RELATIONS: I recently had a GREAT EXPERIENCE with one of their front desk staff, Ali who helped me arrange a really great guest-pass experience for a friend of mine. He was thoughtful, considerate and really proactive in terms of helping me find solutions that would make her feel really welcome (like acknowledging that booking classes using their website, as guests must do, can feel tedious/frustration, so 'calling in or coming in when she wants to book is an option too'). In general I've found that *all of the staff* are really friendly and make you feel welcome/considered. PROS: The pools, I swim about 4-6x/week, and lift weights in between. It seems silly but I also really love the lighting/setup in their women's changeroom's, where there are several 'makeup and do your hair' stations that really add a nice vibe to my day (feels fun, luxurious) and the other gym goers are really sweet and supportive. –The initial personal training session was better than any gym I've tried before too. Really in-depth and helpful; Dylan was a level-5 trainer I think and what I learned from ~1hr with him was *so helpful* in setting me up for my goals. The report they give you (based on BMI, muscle ratio, etc.) is a really great way of keeping track of metrics throughout upcoming milestones too. CONS: This would be a 5-star review except I'm not in love with some of the equipment and the way it's segregated/serviced between the co-ed and women's gyms. I find myself going between the two to makeup for it, which affects my workout flow (the co-ed gym doesn't have the same glute, hip ad/abductor machine as the women's, nor does the women's have an assisted pull-up machine *womp womp*). –There have been times where specific/common handles were missing from the pulldown machines, which is frustrating and disappointing as a paying member who wants to be able to count on a consistent workout experience. There are also times when these handles are just 'sprawled around' (due to poor gym etiquette on other gym-goers behalves) but I feel like it would be nice to see the staff help tidy that up periodically or help make sure all the handles/equipment are accounted for in specific areas {doing a quick 'inventory check' like I've seen other gyms and their staff members do, often twice during a single gym session}. Some of the machines are *really* squeeky too, which is a turn-off. [Edit: the staff probably *do* do this tidying up on a regular basis, which is why most days it looks/feels so nice and clean –there were just a couple times where I had this experience that felt frustrating, so it's possible they were short-staffed that day, I'm not sure]. In general it's tidy, and clean. IN SUMMARY: For the few things that "aren't completely perfect" the entire Trainyards Movati experience is really a good one. As a paying member who uses my pass almost daily the cost is TOTALLY WORTH IT. The classes are fun, the people are great and the amenities feel really nice.
Negative experience: Movati allows men in the women’s change room?? It’s one thing to allow men into washroom but a change room??? We do not share the same body parts which makes REAL women in the change rooms uncomfortable just so a he-she can make a point. It defeats the purpose of women only section at the gym. An absolute joke and a shame for women who come to Movati JUST for the women only section.
Negative experience: I used to love the gym (I joined when it was Althletic club), but the service level has gone down very much. No one smiles and says hi and bye. Employees are often chatting with their colleagues, look at their phones, and ignore presence of customers. I'm planning to cancel the membership this week due to further distance from my current home, but I'm reflecting on the experience I have had during recent years and I am just not having the same feelings about the gym anymore.
Negative experience: I never commented and have a bad experience as from now. I decided to have a membership with them but the agent told me I can sign for 6 months and after cancel at anytime. He made me sign an agreement of 1 year and when I tried to cancel they refused. Pay attention to those people. They will tell you what you want to understand but that’s not what it’s written. VERY BAD EXPERIENCE. I don’t recommend.
Negative experience: I’ll be going back to GoodLife. This movati doesn’t have the best cleaning or equipment maintenance. While their customer service team is friendly and aims to greet everyone as they come and go, if there is an issue, they often don’t know what to do or can’t do anything. As for exercise classes, they suck compared to Les Mills @ GoodLife and the scheduling is not ideal unless you’re retired. However, I do like the small classes taught by personal trainers, those are great! Also a shoutout to the great personal trainers on staff, they’re awesome!
Fantastic experience: I visit the 3 locations in the Ottawa area (Trainyards, Orleans and Nepean). All the front staff are always friendly, cheerful and courteous. Yes, there was a time when the Trainyards location was a mess mainly because the main caretaker suffered an injury and couldn't work. You could see that everyone at the front desk and management staff taking turn to help out. That's teamwork and it's heartening to see. As far as I can see, everything is fixed now. Clean and tidy. I go to mainly yoga sessions in Movati aside from the general workout. Been a yogi for over 15 years and I have to say that Julie L.'s is one of the best yoga instructors around, bar none. Her depth of knowledge is astounding. She's the kind of instructor who teaches yoga the way it should be, from the breath to the postures. As long as she teaches in Movati, I'll be a loyal member :)
Negative experience: I joined movati so I can do powerbarbell classes, yoga, Pilates, to swim and sauna- it has been great to have all this variety in my workout, in one place.. Now the class that is most frequently on the schedule is hot yoga- every day of the week. Hot yoga isn’t for everyone. The variety has dwindled significantly, and all the good classes and instructors (Heidi, Sule) seem to be in orleans- too far for me. Disappointing.
Negative experience: The cleanliness and quality of the machine at this gym needs to be addressed. I originally went to The Orleans location and transition to this one closer to work. The change room and showers are disgusting, one of the toilets has been clogged for 3 days now. Shower doors don't close properly, and on three occasions have caught men in the changes doing indecent stuff. The floors and showers look like they haven't been cleaned for a while, had to try three treadmills to find one that works. Definitely getting some fit for Less rides at this gym. I expected my money to be put to better use. The two stars is for the good quality customer service I get from the staff in the morning. Day 2 of men's washroom missing toilet paper. And broken handles on the treadmills. Is anyone managing this place ? Now the sauna and steam room are broken. 3 plus day and counting. We're paying for this lack of quality and it's no Wonder the ratings are so low. They don't contribute to paying customers instead just sit around and wait for more things to break. Are they trying to get a bundle deal or something?
Positive experience: I used to go here and I miss it very much. During the pandemic they held the account when we were not aloud to go and thus did not charge the fee's, they did however honour the contract and let the time still count. This means I didn't have to pay for what I couldn't use and was able to cancel when the year ran up. Had to cancel as it is a bit pricy and at the time there was no yoga offered and the 'booking' system in place was heavily flawed and inflexible. This I think has changed since then as restrictions lifted. I am always worried now restrictions will hop back on and classes will close so I'm hesitant to sign back up. It gets a four because it is a really lovely gym that makes you feel. boogie but also sometimes the sauna and steam room and broken and the hours make it tricky to go.
Fantastic experience: While it it currently undergoing some renos, Movati Trainyards is a great gym. The staff is friendly and helpful and there is plenty of space between workout area/machines so you never feel like you're on top of anyone. It is a pleasant, clean and sanitary space to workout and I have never once waited for a machine
Negative experience: I've used this gym a couple of times and both times were really bad. The clients are very disrespectful. I used the pool today and there were people cutting into my lane (either a kid jumping into the pool mid-lane or people doing exercises across lanes). Movati needs to police their clients a little more because it absolutely kills the experience on the one thing that makes Movati unique (even the lane buoys would be an improvement). Ideally, they should have dedicated lane swims or restrict child access to the pool. As well, one staff member was rude when cleaning the changing room and it threw me off. If this was another gym with lower membership fees, I wouldn't mind as much, but if Movati charges you $80-$100 a month the staff should show you more respect (maybe pay them more but set higher standards). Use another Movati, all the other gyms have more respectful clients. Staff-wise, it's par for the course.
Negative experience: This gym has horrible and rude staff, they trick you into signing up and there is never an option to cancel. Its a scam. I signed up and the first lie I was told was that I will get a gym bag, I didnt. Second lie was that they would only take 31 dollars bi weekly out of my account, its 36 biweekly. Something I was never told? ‘If you want to cancel you need to transfer your membership to someone else’ thats ridiculous. You should be able to cancel, pay the cancellation fee, and move on. Don’t sign up, they aren’t even open 24 hours. Not to mention staff are rude and arrogant.
Negative experience: Very bad experience when i did the membership the lady there confirmed that i can invite someone at least for one time to try the gym for free. i had never invited any one and today i have invited my friend to come with me for one session. i have called this afternoon before coming to confirm that and the man responded to me said yes it is included in my membership to invite one friend for free for 1 session. unfortunately when i arrived i was surprised and the staff there has refused that and they were not professional at all. the staff was really indifferent even i said i want to cancel my membership. what a very strange customer service.
Negative experience: With the pool closed indefinitely in Orleans (ugh), I decided to drive the 20 mins to Trainyards for my morning workouts. It only took 2 days before the pool was closed here too! I’m thinking I might start a website for Movati pool/spa status reporting. Maybe Movati should refund members $3 every time they show up and the pool/spa/steamroom/sauna/suit dryer is broken. They might start paying us to go to the gym tho.
Negative experience: Extremely disappointed!!! They will not honour your cancellation and keep taking money out of your account for months after cancellation, until you notice. Unfortunately it took me 4 months to realize they were stealing from me. They tell me they send an email when we cancel but they never do send it, and then you don't have proof of cancellation. It's a BIG Scam, plain robbery. They've been ignoring my demand for refund. Advice, stay away from Movati!!!
Fantastic experience: I sign up few months ago and glad I did. The Trainyard location as everything anyone need for a healthy start. For the amount im paying monthly, the opening and closing Schedule need lots of improvements. There's one staff that always goes above and beyond is Francois, always positive and welcoming, keeper for sure.
Negative experience: The only reason I am giving 2 stars and not 1 is because the classes and instructors are really great here. However - the women's only gym is an embarrassment. Half of the equipment in the women's only is broken or out of order, and I will note the machines in the general gym are much newer and functional. Broken buttons, broken fans, broken inclines, rickety machines, loose bars, and this is on the ones without the out of order signs (of which there are 4-5 at any given time). I reported that more than half of the women's treadmills were not working properly to the staff on June 19th at 2:30ish and watched them laugh about it after I walked away. If you want to join for the women's gym, go somewhere else.
Fantastic experience: Movati is actually the best gym ive even been too. Aside from the female only sections while charging me just as much means i am paying for others. Women shoild pay more if they get morenthan me. That simple.
