Altea Active Toronto: Opinions
Negative experience: I’ve been to this location a few times as a non-member as I frequent Toronto every month for long periods of time. The staff had always been such a pleasure to work with which actually made me sign up for the Altea opening up in my hometown. I’ve visited this location a few times and have never had any issues until a recent visit where Mya who had no answers nor did she resolve any issues. It was like she had no other words in her vocab other than she was in the “leadership program”. I was probably told this more than 10x even when asking a question like “can you charge it to this account?” She would reply with “unfortunately, with being on the leadership program …. Etc” until she realized her reply made no sense to the question I asked. I ended up not visiting that day with the company I brought. Brought my company to Lifetime instead where the staff was much more genuine and kind. Mya completely ruined our experience to a point that my partner is in the process of cancelling with this home gym. For someone with “leadership” skills … she showed to us that her skills were very poor. This gym and the staff have always been great but Mya has completely ruined our experience with her lack of customer service and poor communication skills. You guys need to consider maybe someone else with better leadership skills.
We spoke to your partner directly in-person yesterday regarding your comments, Dee. We understand the original concern was surrounding guest passes and your partner was potentially looking to cancel to sign-up at another location, to which we discussed that home club transfers would be only apply when the member is consistently spending majority of their time at that location. We appreciated the follow-up meeting yesterday where we were able to clear up any pending questions, comments or feedback! Should you wish to continue our conversation, we're all ears at [email protected] :)
Negative experience: Be careful with Altea as they are vicious when it comes to being able to cancel your membership. I spent almost two years with the gym - always making payments on-time and treated their facilities with care. When it came time for me to end my membership as I was travelling too often to justify paying membership anymore, I was met with many roadblocks to cancel my membership. I had purchased the platinum package with 6 freeze cycles included in a year. I was told I can't use any of my unused freeze cycles left when I wanted to end my membership. They insisted I need to pay out an additional two cycles and can't use my leftover freezes. They never even sent me a contract with these terms included (it may have been early days when the gym was just getting started - not sure if this still exists). I was told I can't cancel online or by email or by phone, but rather, I needed to come into the gym in person to cancel or send registered mail with my cancellation. As I was away travelling, I was unable to go in-person, and Altea kept on charging me and even sent a collection agency after me for 3x the amount 'in dispute'. I had to spend hours on hours dealing with this collection agency and altea to have this matter settled. Vicious business practices that trash the consumer and go against the Ontario Consumer Protection Act. Do your research and you will see many similar stories and consumers discussing classaction lawsuits in online forums. Be careful...
We understand there was some frustration with your cancellation inclusive of a back-date request, Oren. While we have continued to correspond with you over time to seek resolution, for the consistently and equity of all our processes remain the same. Nonetheless we wish you the best in your future wellness journey!
Negative experience: Over crowded. Not very clean. Equipment is often broken. Too expensive. Customer service is poor when they know they have you on 12 contract. Cancelled my membership.
Our records indicate alternative reasoning for your cancellation Abdi. Nonetheless we are of the understanding there was frustration surrounding the 30-day notice required for cancellation. This is a consistent process for all members as outlined in your agreement. Should you look to re-review with us, happy to help at [email protected].
Negative experience: Extremely poor customer service. Rigid. Not enough equipment to use during busy hours such as after work or morning. Overall, given the very high members fee$,I would not recommend this gym.
While we appreciate you taking the time to leave a review, we do not have a member or guest by this name. Should you have any other information or context to provide to assist in our follow-up, please email us directly at [email protected].
Fantastic experience: What a gym! I'm 41, I've been training since I was 16, this is one of the best places I've been. So friendly, helpful, all technogym, quality, awesome club. Keep it up.
What a gym is right! Thanks for your review Michael, we are so happy to hear you found your fitness home with us at Altea!
Fantastic experience: I’ve been training at Altea Active for some time now, and I can confidently say it’s one of the best gym experiences I’ve had. The facilities are top-notch, offering everything I need to support my fitness goals, from cutting-edge equipment to a welcoming environment. But what truly sets Altea apart is the quality of their trainers, and I’m lucky to work with Thomas Capo. Thomas has been an incredible trainer, tailoring every session to my individual needs and pushing me to perform at my best. His knowledge of movement, technique, and strength training is unmatched. He has an amazing ability to challenge me while ensuring I’m training safely and effectively. Whether I’m working on building strength or improving athletic performance, Thomas always has a personalized approach that gets results. I highly recommend both Altea Active and Thomas to anyone looking to elevate their fitness journey. The combination of expert training and world-class facilities is a game-changer!
Appreciate your raving review, David, and special shoutout towards Capo! We will be sure to pass along the positive feedback. Thank you for being part of our member and personal training community.
Fantastic experience: Great gym and wellness centre. Covers all bases for an all-rounded personal health journey.
We are elated that our holistic approach to wellness has hit the mark, Quinlan! Appreciate the review!
Fantastic experience: Amazing gym, never seen something like it in Toronto before. I had to cancel because the Gardiner is down one lane now and it became impossible to get there from work. Otherwise, great service, atmosphere, classes, etc. Looking forward to when they open more locations.
Sad to hear of your departure, Fabiola! We hope you are able to re-join our member community again soon, thank you for your positive feedback and time with us!
Fantastic experience: This place changed my life! Special shout out to PT and group spin, run instructor Lio and spin instructor Anouk. They're not really instructors though, they're coaches!
Changing the fitness game, Elena! Thank you for your review :)
Fantastic experience: Altea is twice as expensive as Goodlife but a million times better. Really enjoyed my training sessions with Armand, and would highly recommend him if you're looking to get in shape and do anything from learning the basics to pushing yourself. And finding a way to do some reasonably and safely. Also really think all the amenities at Altea are great and make the membership easily worthwhile.
Greatly appreciate the review, Jesse! Thank you for your kind review about our facility and amenities, and the shoutout to PT Armand!
Fantastic experience: I have been a member at Altea since January 2023 and I am super happy with my choice to join. Not only have I been able to get back to being in great shape but I truly feel I am part of a community and I consistently run into good friends. Alex’s yoga classes were essential to my health and well being in 2023 when I particularly needed something inspirational to keep me going. The sauna and Himalayan salt room have been such an added bonus while going through some pretty difficult workouts. And I cannot forget to mention the soma dome as it has become one of my favorite activities on earth. All of that really adds to some amazingly intense workouts afforded to me by the state of the art fitness floor that has every bit of equipment and machine that I could ask for. A huge upgrade from my Covid at-home workouts. I wish management was better at communicating huge changes such as changing hours, maintenance and shutting down the second floor desk. The club was much more convenient for me when it stayed open until mint as sometimes I dont finish work until after 9. Other than that I highly recommend Altea and I will continue to make it my second home for the next little while.
We are elated to hear you've been thoroughly enjoying Altea for almost two years now, Robyn! From fitness classes, to our amenities and member community, we are so glad to hear you have found your 2nd home with us! While we strive to proactively communicate any upcoming changes in our monthly newsletter (sent at the beginning of each month), should you have any other recommendations of how to best communicate operational changes moving forward, we're all ears at [email protected].
Fantastic experience: A beautiful space. If you like doing classes they Have done a good job working on classes and are slowly getting there with great instructors. Steve for spin is best!
Thank you for your review and positive feedback about our Studio Fitness program Caitlin, we will pass along the shoutout to StevieBeatz!
Negative experience: I am writing to express my disappointment regarding and worst customer service experience which was not expected from Altea. I have been a member for over 1.5 years, and I had contacted customer support in August to extend my membership hold due to traveling abroad. I was assured that they could assist me over the phone. However, I was shocked to discover that $600 in charges had accumulated in my account, despite my membership supposedly being on hold. Moreover, as my credit card is expired, I am perplexed as to how these charges were applied. When I inquired about this with Altea staff, I was informed that there is no policy for freezing memberships over the phone. This contradicts the information I received during my initial call, which raises concerns about the training and knowledge of Altea team regarding company policies. To make matters worse, I have now been threatened with account collections, which I find completely unacceptable given the lack of training on their part by providing inaccurate information.
We understand there was some confusion regarding payments due in conjunction with the expired card on-file, Anmol. To reiterate although the card may be expired the payments remain due, as per the follow-up emails from our system. We remain committed and consistent across the board in our enforcement of policies and apologize for any frustration this may have caused.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been in a lot of gyms but this one is the most luxurious and biggest gym I’ve been to. Classes are every half an hour whole day! I tried so far yoga under the stars and it was amazing. Design of the club is also beautiful and breathtaking. Changing rooms are beautiful and very big, luxurious soaps in the shower. Huge pool! Dry sauna, hammam and even an ice room! Im really happy I finally got my membership:)
We're elated you joined the Altea community as well, Kylie! We appreciate all the shoutouts about our space and amenities :)
Negative experience: The worst customer service in the world, mentaility is "if you dont like it leave" this is followe up with nameless emails that are rude and obstructive. Join anywhere else, my issue wasn't necessarily about the fact you werent willing to help (although you regurlarly bend the rules for "celebreties etc) it was the attitude of the staff memebr in question, and the insistnece on hidhing behind "the leadership team" Awful standards
We understand you wished to have a membership hold placed on your account retroactively, Adam. As a consistent process for members, holds are applied to future payments (for those applicable). We understand this was not your desired outcome and apologize for any frustration this may cause, and we trust you can further understand both the integrity and consistency in our processes and policies for all members.
Fantastic experience: The facility is great, what made the experience great and helped me to level up, was working with Armand, his great energy and style of training allows you to get the best out of a workout session. I felt like I don't need to do research and come up with a plan. He guided me to craft a personalized plan to achieve my goals relative to my starting condition.
So glad you are having a great experience with our Trainer Armand. Appreciate the review and keep crushin' your sessions, Ali!
Fantastic experience: Imran is the best! He is so kind and friendly and make the whole Altea experience amazing. Always willing to help and very knowledgable and welcoming. Thank you Imran!!!
Greatly appreciate your review and special shoutout towards Imran in customer service!
Fantastic experience: Hands down one of the nicest fitness facilities I have ever been in. Clean, organized, professional staff, excellent amenities, Bar, live events, 100s of classes to choose from, steam & dry saunas, cold therapy room, 3 lap 25m swimming pool. Dave Wu and his team have really gone above and beyond to provide an exceptional experience for the membership. While some may find it expensive at $134 biweekly, most people in the area probably spend that in one night of socializing. I personally don't put a price on my health or mental well-being. Come check it out you won't be disappointed.
Greatly appreciate your raving review about our facility, team, and amenities Jordan!
Negative experience: If you are looking for a place to work out, be aware this is not so much a gym but a badly organized social media influencer spectacle designed by luxury hotel architects. Though newly constructed and opened during the pandemic, the amenities are regularly broken down, closed for maintenance or just not functioning optimally and many of the interior finishes are not very durable and show damage. In my experience the staff are not knowledgeable about the facility and equipment, do not enforce the rules on witnessing members behave problematically and are generally cliquey and unhelpful. The ceiling of the women's steam room is covered in mold and mildew as per attached photo. Earlier this month I noticed several brownish liquid puddles in prominent areas of the aquatics centre including right outside the door of the sauna. Photos attached. Pretty gross, right? The next evening, I was dismayed to see the brown puddles were still there but spread out, tracked by people's feet. When I returned a week later, they still had not been cleaned up. Members should be concerned and disgusted by these unsanitary conditions. These are just a few examples of a host of sanitary issues I have observed at this facility. In my opinion, the basic membership fees are already extremely expensive, but staggering when paired with the plethora of value added programs that you need to pay even more to use a significant portion of their offerings. My experience cancelling my membership was a horrifying ordeal due to bully tactics employed by the membership staff.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review and feedback. While your reason for cancellation mentioned does not accurately reflect your member record, we certainly welcome the opportunity to elaborate on your comments further. We experienced an unfortunate incident recently where there was a substantial ceiling leak causing impact to the Aquatics Centre, creating water and drywall damage. Rest assured this is being treated as we speak as we navigate these unfortunate circumstances and elevate us back up to standard! We will continue to navigate these maintenance concerns as they arise with our in-house maintenance team. We wish you well with your move and your future wellness journey, Caroline.
Fantastic experience: Great atmosphere & class selection. The initial InBody assessment with Hannaneh was great - she was so friendly & helpful !!
We greatly appreciate the review and kind words towards our club atmosphere and variety of classes offered! We will pass along the positive feedback to Hannaneh, and are so glad to hear you had a great experience in your new member roadmap session!
Fantastic experience: For both Yoga detox and yin and sound I’ve had incredible experience in Alex’s petroyama classes ! The first class I had with him I was brand new to the gym and very new to yoga. On two occasions to posses we were doing I struggled with and alex quickly came to assist and get me where I should be ! The end of my last class I stop to chat and ask a few questions and he kindly spent 10 or so mins happily answering whatever I had for him ! Absolutely go to his classes ! Thanks alex !
Studio Fitness classes for all levels of experience, Zach! Thank you for sharing your yoga journey with us, we will pass along your kind words to Alex.
Fantastic experience: Kaleigh, front desk supervisor is one of the nicest people to deal with. The whole staff at Altea is super courteous and always there to help. I recommend this gym for its superb customer service and clean workout environment.
Appreciate the raving reviews towards our team members and facility, Harris! Thank you for being a member and recommending us to your peers.
Fantastic experience: Great gym with lots of amenities. Did some personal training with Armand and highly recommend him. He was super knowledgeable about my injuries and catered a plan to suit me exactly. Very friendly and stress-free experience!
Armand is a rockstar and we greatly appreciate you taking the time to shout him out, Taimur! Thank you for being part of our member and personal training community!
Fantastic experience: I have been an Altea member for two years, and I highly recommend it. The gym offers exceptional amenities, with the Himalayan salt room being my favorite. The classes and instructors foster a strong sense of community, making it feel like more than just a gym. With over 150 classes weekly and state-of-the-art facilities, it truly stands out as the best in town.
Love the review and mid-lift photo, Heloiza! We are pumped to hear we are further enhancing your member journey with our top-tier facilities and Studio Fitness classes!
Fantastic experience: I love all the classes. Especially the yoga classes. Alex’s class is restorative. Fahd is such a good teacher too.
Fantastic experience: This is the best gym in the City. Special Shoutout to Awdi and Keenan for always welcoming me with a nice smile and providing an excellent customer service.
Thank you for the feedback towards our facility and front desk team members, Bouzid! We will see you tonight for your evening lift!
Negative experience: The machines are constantly down, the aquatics facilities such as hot tub are always down and need to be fixed, the women's changeroom has had plumbing issues and smells strange for months, and on top of all of that, CNE parking was applied in August and charged members $30. The staff aren't helpful and not willing to listen to feedback either. Honestly wondering if this membership is worth it.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, Magda, and we welcome the opportunity to further elaborate on your comments. The Aquatics Centre is scheduled for closure (weekdays 3pm, weekends 1:15pm) for daily cleaning and maintenance. On Friday's we do a deeper clean which includes full drainage and re-fill of the hot tub, which does take some time to heat up again. Although we can certainly understand your frustrations regarding the event rate applied for parking during the CNE, the underground parking is run exclusively by a third party. While they made the call to apply unique event rates given the local circumstances, Altea did what we could to proactively communicate to members by posting in-club signage, an Instagram story, and member newsletter. Should you have any additional comments or feedback you wish to discuss - we're all ears at [email protected].
Positive experience: Beautiful facilities, LOVE Alex Petroyama’s detox class!!! Wish they gave more direction to new members on how to use machines and disappointed they stopped the membership transfer option. Do like the pause option, came in handy when I fractured my foot.
Appreciate the review and positive comments specific to the facilities and Yoga Detox! We do offer all members one complimentary demo or machine orientation, and membership transfers are available to all members within their original term (such as a one year agreement). Should you still be interested in a demo or machine orientation, kindly email [email protected] and we will get that setup for you. Thank you for being part of our community!
Negative experience: I have been a member for quite a while. Although the equipment is excellent both from the standpoint of quality and selection, there is an ongoing issue that the management is unable to resolve. Although it is posted at the club that members are not to bring bags knapsacks and gymbags onto the floor of the main gym floor area, there are members who continue to do so. The problem is further exacerbated by members who put their mobile phones onto pods on the floor in the main workout area and are shooting videos. Management continuously has excuses for not effectively handling the matter despite many members bringing it to its attention. It is extremely frustrating. With regard to your response, rules and guidelines are drafted and enforced for a reason pertaining to courtesy and safety. I have brought this matter to you attention repeatedly. You have the resources to nicely ask members to remove their gymbags/knapsacks...be it be members of your team and personal trainers.....The same members continue to disregard this policy. If you do not do something, then it will occur more frequently...and it is....... The gym floor/area is not a junk yard....changerooms and lockers serve an important purpose...
Thank you for your continued correspondence over the years Steven, it's unfortunate your previous 5-star has been revised due to gym bags/personal item use on the weight floor. We would like to again reiterate that our team consistently balances the needs of all members and enforces house rules (gym bags, filming policy) when able so all guests can enjoy the space collectively.
Negative experience: Edit to respond: Every single payment for the duration of my membership was made automatically via CC. You did not notify me that the credit card you have on file was about to expire (standard practice at every other gym I’ve been part of) when I called to cancel the membership. Interesting considering I had specifically asked if everything was in order as I was going to be travelling for a few weeks with little to no internet/ phone access. I wanted to ensure no issues while away. When I spoke to your hack “gym manager” who wouldn’t even provide a name, he stated that I would have been notified when I came to the front desk. Difficult to have done as I was away for a month. Also, I tried to update the CC info via your app which doesn't have that capability. Its obvious whoever is responding to this and to the customer service email I sent is the same incapable person. Stay away from this gym. The worst service imaginable from the management team. I cancelled my membership.
We understand there was frustration surrounding your overdue balance and payment(s) due prior to cancellation, Ness. We can again assure you that all payments were as per your original agreement. Nonetheless we wish you well in your overseas travels and future wellness journey!
Fantastic experience: Altea Active is simply a World Class facility with more than everything you might want in a health club, great equipment, super clean, even food is incredible….all this obviously requires a seriously talented team….you won’t miss them they are all around you!
Greatly appreciate the shoutout towards our facility and team in Liberty Village, Feras!
Fantastic experience: great gym with plenty of options for any workout you would want. Hannaneh has been great at guiding me with lots of helpful information so I can get in shape
Elated to hear Hannaneh had made an impact on your Altea journey, Nathan! Thanks for the review.
Negative experience: So disappointed with their customer care. Our bank card was compromised. We updated the front desk TWICE, our bank card is compromised and any outstanding payment would be cleared as soon as we have the card on us. They sneakily charged the $25 + taxes penalty for failed payment for both me and my husband (no prior communication of this whatsoever). Upon checking with them regarding the charges, they refused to waive the fees and attached their policy details. All said and done, why cant they be open and honest to their customers of any charges when we approached them twice, that our bank card was compromised. No regard and consideration. So pathetic! We have been with them for 4 years and this is how we are treated for 1 failed payment. Sharing this here for others to read and know about their great customer care.
Good afternoon Yuvika, System administration fees are auto-generated for any missed payments, as outlined in your original agreement. We greatly apologize for any frustration this may have caused. Should you have any outstanding questions regarding the fees or this section of your agreement kindly email us at [email protected].
Fantastic experience: Altea is my favourite place in the city to stay health, positive, and balanced !! Amazing facilities no where else you can find in downtown. Teachers like Christopher, Alex, and Samantha offer you the best experience.
Appreciate the raving review, Sherry! We will forward your kind words to our team members, thank you!
Negative experience: I was referred to this gym during my 2 week stay for work in Toronto. Most gyms have a week pass, but this gym only offers a day pass. I offered to pay the full month price knowing I would only use the facilities for 2 weeks and was told I could do this but would also have to pay the $200 registration as well. I am willing and to pay for a nice gym but I think $350 -$400 for 2 weeks is quite excessive. I would not recommend this gym to anyone who is in town for a short stay unless you are fine with such prices.
We both apologize for the frustration and appreciate your feedback specific to week pass availability, James.
Negative experience: Had a very poor experience with Altea, unfortunately the staff isn't too helpful at all with requests and personal interferences but that's a different story. I am glad that I am not with Altea. for the price you pay the amenities are not worth it. You can get almost all of these at a GoodLife, they try to suck you in for a year long membership making you think it is cheaper with their $0 initial fees, gift card what not, when in actuality they are ripping you off each biweekly period. I can go on about how there are poor services, such as sauna, pool and gym equipment are out of order and out of service. The Himalayan Salt room chairs are poor quality, no one even uses it. Feels like they set up a bunch of lawn chairs in a room with heat panels, the co-working space is super loud with gym music, a bit contradictory if you wanna take a work call or get some work done in peace. Who uses all the bar/restaurant space now that it's open to the public? It's not exclusive to Altea members paying over $200 a month, you can't even use the space unless you're buying something so what's the point? Altea also has a backwards layout, coworking space and bar should be at the top floor, gym on the bottom 2, it would make more sense. Why is there even a kids space? That area can be used for different things, like a special/social studio space. This isn't what I signed up for when wanting to come to a luxury gym, you're better off saving your money if you're considering Altea. Good luck getting out of your membership if you're locked in.
We welcome the opportunity to discuss your comments further however are unable to identify your profile from when you were a member, inclusive of any feedback submitted during your time with us. Should you wish to discuss with us directly, email us at [email protected].
Fantastic experience: Alex Petroyama and Christopher Pryde bring the energy to every class. The yoga community at altea is so welcoming. Altea has really built something here. I travel for work a lot and I hate missing my classes those weeks.
Amazing feedback, thanks Ashley! Looking forward to hosting you in future classes, and will pass along the raving review to Alex & Chris!
Fantastic experience: Best gym in Toronto! Classes are amazing! I love Pilates with Taylor and Kristin and Spin with George!
An Altea Studio Fitness fan! Appreciate the review and feedback, Sam!
Positive experience: Great vibe and modern, large facilities! Love spending time in the spa/jacuzzi/cold pool area. Amazing selection of equipment as well. The best part about my experience has been having an amazing, upbeat Trainer, Heather Part, who understands my needs and takes the time to adjust our routines based on my objectives and physical abilities and takes the time to hear out my views and offer patient guidance.
Elated to hear you've had a great experience across the board, Sanam, with special shoutout to our Aquatics Center. We will pass along your raving review to Heather!
Negative experience: Update: I did end up meeting with cancelations manager. She helped clear up many inconsistencies from other employees. Still frustrating that I was given false info from so many of the staff but it's clearly a training issue and not an issue with the employees themselves. I recommend just asking for someone from the back office when you need to talk to them or you run a high chance of being mislead by the front desk. Altea, please don't reply with a generic email address. You see my name and you have my number. Most businesses in this case would reach out to customers instead of putting the onus on the customer. Love the gym don't love the deception. They told me I'm signing up for the highest tier package when I signed up and its actually their lowest package available and I lack access to some parts of the gym. They also said the membership automatically cancels at the end of the summer when I signed up. I just went to double check and the front desk said they need 30 days notice but won't take notice at this hour. And it has to be in person. Doesn't feel good to be lied to when signing up. I definitely would have signed up for a new membership after my travels if they were honest. It's frankly one of the nicest gyms but as you can read other reviews the service and rating is worse than you would expect from a $20/month gym.
Hi Sia, Its our understanding you have been in recent contact with a member of our customer service leadership team to further clarify your membership details. Should you have any additional questions following, kindly reach out to [email protected].
Fantastic experience: Nice esting area..second level for studying or juat to get away frok the traffic…the “Avocado BLT” is fire!! Def my favorite! ❤️
Thanks for the feedback on our various spaces here at Altea Liberty Village! The avocado club is definitely a fan favourite. Beat the traffic with us any time :)
Fantastic experience: I've happily been an Altea member for a couple of years now. I want to give kudos to the one and only Alberto Valdes’s Zumba classes. His consistent positivity and enthusiasm is contagious. I leave each and every class a happy sweaty lady! Not only do you compete a full cardio/aerobic workout but I can confidently say I have learned the bachata! Cannot recommend him enough, we are not worthy!
Greatly appreciate the raving review from a long-time member, Jessica! We will pass along the positive feedback to Alberto!
Positive experience: Great gym but I’m giving 4 stars because I wish we had more Zumba and cardio-dance classes available. Alberto Valdes is THE best!
We appreciate the feedback and review Mariana, and have forwarded your comments to our Studio Fitness team!
Negative experience: I had to cancel my membership for several reasons: • The gym is always crowded, making it impossible to work out without waiting in line. It also smells bad. • I had a personal training for 4 sessions that were terrible. The trainer ignored my requests and did the opposite of what I asked. Despite complaining to management, nothing was done. The sessions cost me $440, and the trainer’s behavior was abusive, including sending unsolicited messages outside the gym. • Another trainer made me uncomfortable by blocking my way to hug me and staring at me. Again, management did nothing despite my complaints. • The gym prioritizes money over member satisfaction. Save your money and go to another gym.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, Nakisa. We understand there was a request for a refund following your personal training sessions. Outside of the refund request, our records of both in-person and email correspondence does not reflect what is mentioned here in your review. Altea is dedicated towards and strives to be a comfortable and welcoming environment for all, as such we would like to look into your comments further. Kindly email [email protected] so we can initiate this internal review.
Fantastic experience: Ever since Altea was announced in earl 2021, I was excited to be a member of this club! I have to say, I was not disappointed. Altea has amazing facilities - right at the heart of a very vibrant neigbourhood. I enjoy having access not only to a restaurant, pool, sauna, steam room, gym and cardio equipment , chill/lounge/working areas, but also countless exercise and fitness classes. Some of my favourite classes and instructors include: Zumba with Alberto Valdes, Barbell with Nima and/or Martina, Body Sculpt with Candice and Lianna, Pilates or Barre with Taylor, Samantha and Meaux. The front desk staff are very friendly as well. Overall, I love going to the gym and never feel as if it were a chore. I have met tons of people and made great friends since I've joined.
Such a fantastic review, Laura! Greatly appreciate the kind words towards our facility, instructors, and staff! We're glad to hear you have found your fitness home at Altea and met new friends within our member community!
Fantastic experience: Love altea and all the classes. Probably one of my top picks is Zumba. Having a dance background I thought it would be what you see in online videos but woah was I wrong. Alberto the instructor is a powerhouse! His classes challenging in every sense. I absolutely love the choreo and music selection and the incorporation of making every movement geared towards a muscle group. Highly highly recommend. Some of the other classes I have enjoyed are HIIT and lower body by Kylie McMahon. Muay Thai. The bar bell classes are pretty solid too.
Fantastic experience: I have never felt so confident and comfortable at a fitness facility than I have at Altea. I enjoy going to work out now and am excited about my fitness journey, something I’ve always begrudged/put to the side until now. Petroyama and Marlene all the way!!!
We are elated to hear that we have sparked your passion for fitness, Adam! Thank you for being part of our member community.
Negative experience: I have been at this gym almost two years, and I am happy with the experience, but I write this because today a guy at the reception was passive aggressive with his treatment of me, he became even derogatory ,His name is Keemal, if I remember correctly I don't remember the name very well , I am very upset since I have been in this gym for quite some time and I have never had a bad experience, much less with the staff. I feel very uncomfortable that there are customer service staff with such a bad attitude . Uplaed: his name is Keena
Altea prides ourselves on consistently delivering top-tier customer service at all times, to all members and would like to look further into your comments Modca. We do not have a team member by that name however please send more details to [email protected] and we can certainly look further into this.
Positive experience: Great classes and amazing instructors. However, the company really needs to pay more efforts to the equipments, the website experience and some of the staff training. The elevator works 70% of the time. The lift only goes down and not up. It’s impossible to access billing documents online and you need to call and have a staff member sending that. The Toronto and Vancouver locations use different systems and you need to stop by the location a day before the actual workout day to get your account set up. There are only 5 reformer pilate machines in the Toronto location, and the class got booked up super fast, making it incredibly difficult to book classes. The gift card can pay for some classes (reformer pilates) but not others (LF3), and you need to reach out to get manually added and it’s still unclear why they don’t accept the Altea gift card. Most staff are super helpful, some are a bit unfamiliar with the process and require a bit manual time.
Fantastic experience: Joined a year ago been loving it so far. Probably one of the better gyms in the city, great facilities and great staff. Would like to thank awdi and kenan who specifically make my time more enjoyable every time I go.
Thank you Stephen for the review and special shoutout towards the facility and our team! We will pass along the positive feedback to Awdi and Keenan - our evening power duo!
Fantastic experience: Altea has been such a welcome change to my life and helping me achieve my fitness goals! Shoutout to Awdi & Keenan for the warm welcomes from the front desk!!! :D
We are elated to hear that Altea has been a game changer for you, TJ! Thank you for being a member, we will see you again very soon!
Fantastic experience: I’ve been looking for a gym/pool/spa to look forward to going to and this is it and more. 10/10 facilities and all the staff are super friendly (shoutout Hannah). Will be coming here for a long time. Keep up the good work!
One-stop-shop for all things wellness, and 5-star service! Thanks for the feedback Christine, we look forward to hosting you today and in the years to come :)
Fantastic experience: I reached out to Laura (the GM) for assistance with something very personal and important and she went above and beyond to help me. I am super impressed with her professionalism and how quickly she was able to provide assistance. Altea is lucky to have her as the GM.
Such a lovely review about Liberty's GM - Laura. We will pass along the kind words, thank you so much for your review and thank you for being part of our member community!
Fantastic experience: Just had a tour of Altea Active Club and I was blown away! Kaleigh, from the front desk gave me the tour and she was so warm and welcoming! She literally made me feel like this could be my second home. She was informative, friendly and happily answered all of my questions. The Club is beautiful and offers many amenities. From the yoga and meditation rooms to the cycle studio and swimming pool, there is something there for everyone. It has a beautiful lounge and restaurant as well. This could be my home away from home.
Greatly appreciate the review Darlene, and shoutout towards your tour with Kaleigh! We are happy to hear you were blown away by our facility.
Fantastic experience: Such a great space and well cared for amenities ! Lf3 has been awesome with well educated trainers and programs ! Oisen has been a gods sent and does an amazing job running it
An LF3 fan! Happy to hear Osh and his team of Coaches are providing top-tier service and experience!
Negative experience: Excessive fees. In my experience I was charged excessive fees for signing up and later cancelling my membership. When I asked staff to cancel my membership they were not always honest about the procedure which complicated matters. If you have also experienced this please reach out to “city ember 519 at gmail”
As discussed directly over time Andrew, the 30-day cancellation notice and any administrative fees for non-payment are as outlined in your agreement. Our agreement conditions are standard and consistent for every member and clearly outlined at time of sign-up. We understand you proceeded with the 30-day cancellation notice, and wish you well in your future wellness endeavors.
Fantastic experience: I love the options this gym has to offer! I’ve been going there since the start and I have been training in the LF3 classes for over a year to build muscle and tone up. Oisen has helped me so much with my weigh ins, support in class and offered guidance on meal planning and supplements for me to reach my goals. If you want to really reach your fitness goals with supportive structure then LF3 is for you!
Greatly appreciate the review, Kerrie! You're in great hands with the LF3 Coaching team led by Osh!
Negative experience: The gym increases fees year over year after already incredibly high fees & while I was told at sign up that my fees wouldn’t change if I “locked it in today”. Super disappointed after gym hours were recently decreased, sauna, compression products, and other facilities don’t function for weeks on end, tons of mold in steam room & male gym trainers constantly reach out via email, in-person, WhatsApp to offer “an assessment” in order to hard sell personal training or even just “pick up chicks” - feels super ick :( I have also told tons of people in the neighbourhood about this gym because the facilities are nice but I’m increasingly super disappointed in how this gym is mismanaged particularly regarding fees.
While we appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback JC, we request the opportunity to review your feedback specific to rate increase(s) and member account further. As for the sauna, as a foreign product we were awaiting parts from overseas however happy to confirm they are on-route on rush order. Our in-house maintenance team is dedicated to completing repairs once we have the tools and resources required, and our Personal Trainers are eager to assist with and highlight our fitness assessment process inclusive of body scans and functional movement screen. Kindly reach out to [email protected] should you wish to discuss further with our team.
Negative experience: I’ve been a member since it opened. Initially, the club offered a wide variety of classes — TRX, kettlebell, dance, aquafit. Altea has done NOTHING but take class options away from members. Aquafit gone. Family swim gone. TRX gone. Kettlebell gone. Swiss balls gone. Great teachers like Nima, Martina, and Liana have had their classes cut. Concerned members write letters of support, but Altea doesn’t care. What have they offered us? They’ve put a couple more used 20 lb. dumbbells in the main studio and they add “beats” to the name of classes. It could be so much better. It used to be. It could be again.
We value your feedback as we continue to evolve and make seasonal adjustments to our class schedule, Bryan. A member of our Studio Fitness leadership team is going to reach out to you directly to discuss further.
Fantastic experience: I joined this gym after meeting with Eric and learning more about the club. The entire process was very smooth and convenient, and he's also been a great with helping me with any questions that I've had since I joined. I would highly recommend talking to Eric if you're interested in joining Altea!
Glad that you received a warm welcome since day 1, Sanath! Appreciate the special shoutout towards our team member Eric, and that he continues to provide unwavering 5-star service day in and day out.
Fantastic experience: The front of house and food and beverage teams deliver exceptional and consistent service. Not only are they incredibly welcoming and accommodating but they go above and beyond to create a community environment amongst staff and guests. I’ve also seen how well they interact with guests who have physical and mental disabilities, another example of them going above and beyond to make everyone feel welcomed. My dogs are I have made Starbucks a daily stop because of the wonderful staff.
Thank you for leaving such a lovely review, Varia! We appreciate the shoutout towards our team members and customer service across the board.
Fantastic experience: Been going to altea for over 3 years now and can’t thank the team enough for their hospitality and dedication to keeping the facility well organized and clean. Highly recommend trying the yoga classes especially with Alex one of my favourite teachers at altea.
A member since day 1! Thanks for being a dedicated Altea member Brian, appreciate the kind words towards our team, classes and facility!
Positive experience: There are a lot of great amenities here and the aesthetic of the space is nice. They do their best to keep up with maintenance, but there are often machines out of order or things needing repairs (e.g., bathroom doors, front entrance gate). The customer service is the main problem at this gym, most of the complaints are around that topic. Memberships are pricey.
Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review, H Y. Inevitably when things break, we do our best to get them back up and running as soon as possible! When the exit gate broke for example, we were waiting on a motor from the manufacturer. While we appreciate your kind shoutout towards the amenities and aesthetic we would love to further understand your comments surrounding the service you experienced, please email us directly at [email protected].
Positive experience: The Good Variety. There are a ton of different classes and facilities. The app to book classes is useful. Nima is the best (but they cut his schedule, which makes no sense). The instructors are great and all have their own style. Nima and Melissa Tung come to mind but all the instructors have been great. I don’t have a high bar here. The staff are all nice, the team that manages the facilities does a great job The lady who takes care of the fish tank is the most passionate person about fish I’ve ever met. She’s found her calling. Not Good They keep cutting popular classes (Nima’s classes), and I’m not sure what the reason is. People love that guy and his production value with music and workouts is second to none. The locker doors open past 90° making it really annoying if you have two people using lockers next to each other. The locking mechanisms on the door have a little red light to show if the locker is being used. However, instead of being a solid red light it’s a flashing red light flashes every couple seconds making it incredibly hard to find a locker without actually trying on each door. They have an app that you can use, but this is so stupid and such a waste of time to have to use an app to find an empty locker. Nobody wants to use an app to lock and unlock a locker that has a touchpad on it. They don’t enforce the late arrival rule on yoga and other classes. I’ve seen a guy walk in 10 minutes late, entering from the fire exit door put his mat down and then proceeded to leave 10 minutes later. This shouldn’t be the job of the instructors either. Also, I’m amazed at how many people need to check their phones in the middle of yoga class. Some instructors say something but most don’t. This is more a reflection of the people I guess. They got rid of the pool classes. The float yoga was fun so it’s a bummer that they decided to cancel those. They have a Himalayan Salt lounge that is supposed to a quiet meditation area. Cool concept except it’s separated by only a glass wall and door from the gym so while in the lounge you get to hear people hitting a heavy bag, lifting and doing boxing workouts. Also the door itself slams every time it closes which kind of defeating the purpose of the tranquil room. ♂️ The jacuzzi jets are basically just hoses and it’s not that hot. You’re basically just in a giant bath with other people.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, Charles. We appreciate the opportunity to further elaborate on some of your comments. - Studio Fitness classes and schedule goes through seasonal revisions based on member feedback, constantly evolving popularity, and sometimes simply to provide a different option for our diverse member base. When putting the schedule together, our team looks to adjust as needed so peak times have multiple format options - That's great feedback on the lockers that hasn't come up yet! We have made note that the door opens past 90 degrees sometimes causing impact to your neighbour. Noted for not only this club but as Altea continues to grow - We have Yoga (and Studio Fitness) standard practices for late arrivals, we are in-touch with our team here to ensure that the late arrival policy is enforced consistently across the board, as there should not be impact to your Yoga practice We would love to continue to discuss your feedback as it is incredibly valuable, should you wish to continue the conversation we're happy to connect further directly by emailing [email protected]
Negative experience: One of the worst gyms in Toronto. Management is greedy and inconsiderate. They take your credit cards and steal every single penny off of it. Have hidden clauses in the contract.
Hi Waqas, We understand there was concern over the admin fee, as outlined in your original agreement for any missed payments. We apologize for any frustration this may have caused, and are happy answer any remaining questions you may have by emailing [email protected].
Fantastic experience: Had a great customer service experience with Keenan today. Had an administrative mix up and he went above and beyond to handle it. Also, I love the gym and all the amenities.
We're happy to hear you're loving your time as a member, Fran. Greatly appreciate the kind shoutout towards the facility and our team member Keenan!
Fantastic experience: My girlfriend and I joined Altea about a month or so ago. We came from a higher end gym in Yorkville and originally switched because of the Gardiner being shut down and our travel time doubling to get to the other gym. What started as a change due to convenience has turned into so much more. Not only does Altea have way more machines, weights, spaces, etc., but the amenities are next level. The pool, sauna, steam, Himalayan salt room, yoga studio, separate yoga studio specifically dedicated to hot yoga, the meditation pod, restaurant, smoothie bar, sushi bar, Starbucks, lounge area and more. Throw in bowling, the arcades and top golf and we are blown away by the things we can do here. The locker rooms are beautiful, there’s always towels, the showers are spacious and clean, and the staff in the lockers and at the front desk are so welcoming and nice. We’re so happy to be members of this club and I for one am always excited to be at the gym, whether working out, being social or working. It’s a wonderful space and we couldn’t be happier.
Since signing up with us David, we have seen your raving reviews on social media! Thanks so much for continuing to provide feedback while enjoying everything we have to offer. We've just added a guest pass to your account, should you wish to bring another friend for a visit :)
Negative experience: Egg salad sandwich at the smoothie bar has... no egg salad in it? Lol if so it's spread as thin as butter. You're basically paying for two slices of bread glued together by what seems like butter but is the "egg salad" lmao Will not eat here again. Sorry. Poor quality for such a high standard gym experience.
This is definitely not our standard, Krista, and we apologize this was your experience today. We would appreciate the opportunity to make it right, please email [email protected] and we will cover your next sandwich.
Negative experience: Terrible changes have been made recently; The gym now closes at 11PM instead of 12AM. As well, the sauna and pool area closes at 10:30PM. Classes are crammed with people due the time change. The only good thing about this gym is some of the trainers. The monthly costs are way too expensive for the changes that have recently been implemented. Not to mention, the showers in the female locker area are closed. The stream room in the women's change room is disturbing.. the ceiling is all yellow and disgusting. Also, less than 200 classes are offered.
Appreciate the opportunity to further elaborate on your feedback Liza. Our adjustment to 11pm close was a decision based on careful review of club check-ins as well as alignment with our other Altea locations. As standard practice for pool opening and closing responsibilities, the pool will continue to open half an hour after club open and close half an hour prior to club close. Yes our women's showers are temporarily closed to allow for our exciting new look and are proceeding on schedule/expected to reopen end of this week. The men's was completed first and looks amazing, we can't wait until you see the new and improved showers! Our summer schedule is available on the app and online (https://alteaactive.com/toronto/class-schedule/) as we continue to adjust seasonally.
Negative experience: Steam room is still way too hot and there is no way to turn it off. The max you can stay in there is 2 to 5 minutes. The management have made it clear they will not adjust the temperature. Dry sauna is still broken for weeks. No one in management seems to care about the reviews, but at least i can help prospective customers. Other things to note is a broken cable machine that has been like that for at least 2 months, ripped padding on many of the machines, and the changes to the closing hours have made it quite a bit busier. After work don’t expect to be using any benches and keep a very flexible workout routine. Two of the 4 mens bathroom doors also don’t lock. And the parking vouchers don’t always work. 2 hour parking limit is not enough if you decide to use the amenities. Phone reception is very poor or nonexistent in much of the space. Get ready to check voicemail when you leave. Wifi is spotty. Nice facility but at this price point you’d expect better. The facility at Equinox might not be as nice but everything they do is perfect.
Good afternoon Fred, Both of our steam rooms have the same temperature set point, when did you happen to find it too warm? Kindly email us at [email protected] so we can look into this further!
Fantastic experience: I want to highlight the exceptional customer service I received from Hannah Paola. After leaving Altea Active for a while, I decided to return, and my experience with Hannah made me certain I had made the right decision. She addressed all my concerns, provided helpful tips, and resolved various questions I had. Hannah made me feel incredibly at home and comfortable with her warm and friendly demeanor. Her prompt responses to my emails and proactive approach, including calling me to ensure my issues were being addressed and to inform me of the next steps, truly stood out. Hannah's exceptional service and kindness have significantly enhanced my experience at Altea Active. I also want to commend Joshua for his outstanding support and motivation. During my in-body review, Joshua's friendliness and expertise were evident. He provided valuable tips and gave me the attention I needed as the lead of the personal training team. Joshua's encouragement and guidance have been instrumental in helping me focus on my fitness goals and setting me up for success. His dedication and positive attitude make a huge difference. I would also like to give a huge shout-out and express my sincere gratitude to Imran at Altea Active. At 5:30 a.m., Imran at the front desk helped me with an issue I was experiencing with my application. Despite the situation needing escalation to the IT department, Imran went above and beyond to provide me with an alternative solution for booking my classes until the issue could be resolved. Imran's positivity and enthusiasm early in the morning are truly commendable. His cheerful demeanor and willingness to assist made a significant difference to my day. Imran consistently demonstrates a remarkable attitude and exceptional service. Thank you, Imran, for your dedication and for always being a bright spot at Altea Active! Thank you, Hannah, Joshua, and Imran, for your outstanding dedication and for making Altea Active a welcoming and supportive community!
Greatly appreciate your review Ana, especially the kind shoutouts towards staff on our membership sales, personal training, and front desk teams. We are elated that you chose to return, welcome back to the Altea community!
Negative experience: All I will say is communication is a very major weak point and needs to be addressed. It took 6 months, multiple unreturned emails and phone calls to finally address my issue. It was very frustrating. Even when I turned up in person I couldn’t meet with anyone or speak with anyone who could help me. I was simply told someone would call me tomorrow which never happened. Things were finally resolved but I just don’t feel the level of service here is up to par. I was told that my messages “slipped through the cracks” and that “they’re a new team here and still figuring things out”. Altea has been open for years, this isn’t an issue of being new. My messages didn’t slip through the cracks, they simply ignored me instead of quickly and politely addressing my questions and concerns. It was incredibly frustrating and from this experience I can only imagine how difficult it would be to cancel your membership or deal with any issues in the gym. Again, this is only my experience and I’m sure others have had a better experience than myself I can say in regards to my experience in the club, it is a nice large facility. A couple pieces of equipment weren’t maintained very well which I thought was a bit strange. The membership is significantly more pricy than LA or GoodLife but the level of maintenance was not higher. The grips on the dip bars were chewed up and the cable machine hook was broken and wouldn’t lock so the handle was not secure. It’s also very busy, I didn’t go at peak time and the gym was just jammed with people. Not a good thing or a bad thing, just an observation. For a social person, it might be a plus. For an introvert it might be a negative. The facility is beautiful though and does have nice amenities. I see management always replies to these reviews and they tend to never take accountability and instead have excuses and/or blame the reviewer. I hope in this instance management can simply accept responsibility and commit to better communication with other current and prospective clients moving forward.
Thank you for connecting with us on Friday, Jesse. Again we apologize for the previous communication request however were happy to connect and come to resolution last week. We hope to see you again as a guest in the future.
Negative experience: Nice facility. Terrible customer service. Maybe it’s the fact that this is a large corporate facility and it’s very busy (like, too busy, but that’s a whole other issue) that they don’t feel the need to be considerate or accommodating to individual members. They certainly don’t make it easy or pleasant to deal with membership or billing related issues. I’ll probably keep coming here because it’s the closest/most convenient for now, but I don’t love the staff or management.
We appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback James. Upon initial review of your account we don't see any interactions regarding your membership or billing, nonetheless we'd be happy to connect to discuss any questions you may have. Kindly email [email protected] and we will support no problem!
Negative experience: Pretty frustrating to hear that they have changed their hours from closing at midnight to 11pm without any notice. Very nonchalantly sent an email letting members know without any explanation or rationale. To make things worse, they also close at 9pm on Sundays. Just another reason to believe these guys don’t care about their members and are more concerned about saving overhead costs. EDIT: Wanted to follow up after reading the response from Altea. Trying to justify these changes by saying 2-5 people check in between 11pm-12pm is just a moronic way to analyze data. You should rather be checking how many people LEAVE between 11-12. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that most people aren’t checking in an hour before close, most people are spending 2 hours at the gym. Last thing I’ll mention is that this gym has a reputation of being overcrowded. What happens if you reduce the hours? Everyone is pushing their arrival time up by an hour, making it even more crowded during non peak hours. Again, these guys don’t care about what the members want. Stop gaslighting people and listen up.
Appreciate the review Jeremy, we're happy to further elaborate on the updated hours as communicated via community email update and in-club signage last week. This decision was made upon full review of hourly check-ins over time (typically only 2-5 visits between 11pm and midnight) and in alignment with our other Altea locations. Since we've opened in early March 2022, we have closed at 9pm on Sunday's. Rest assured we continue to evolve and invest in what's beneficial for the Altea community as a whole such as club improvements and new equipment.
Negative experience: The worst customer service I have ever experienced. Spoke with Kaleigh, front house supervisor and avoid her (and maybe everyone else at all costs). I cancelled my membership, 3 weeks ago, signed all paper work, contracts etc. Up until a week ago I get an email I’m stuck in a contract for another 8 months (I was never even told this !!- so beware). Paper works signed though right ? Nope, I have to transfer my membership (again this is after saying I have a sick family member and have moved and no cares in the world are given to be a little more empathetic). Than I find someone wanting to take over my membership, this lady who works desk goes completely out of her way to give her a promo deal so she doesn’t have to deal with transferring a membership herself- again knowing my situation. They have done the most to make this entire process difficult for me. They have now charged my original transferee 4 different fees and still the transfer ‘hasn’t been complete’. It’s complete non sense, and no management has reached out to me. Avoid this gym at all costs
Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, Preston. We understand you are in the process of transferring your 1-year agreement signed in February. As discussed, the final steps to complete the transfer have not been completed and as such, no fees have been withdrawn from the intended transfer. Please continue to follow the steps as outlined by our Supervisor team who is the support team for these requests. We will continue to support you in this process as outlined, and look forward to continuing to collaborate.
Negative experience: If you mention you have a parent in and out of hospital, he has weeks to live, you haven't used the gym in over a year and you have kept paying for well over a year without visiting, and you want to cancel the membership they still ask you to come in person to cancel membership..or go to the post office to send a registered mail. Really? I understand rules are rules but
An Altea team member will be in-touch with you this afternoon to further discuss, Rashid.
Fantastic experience: I've been a member of this gym for over a year, and I can't express how much I enjoy it. The staff, across all areas including the dine-in section, are incredibly friendly. Besides the gym equipment, I love that they offer a wide range of classes, entertainment options, and workspace. Lastly, the atmosphere is always pleasant, with a respectful crowd. Highly recommended.
Greatly appreciate the review, Remy! We are elated to hear you're thoroughly enjoying all the different areas of our Liberty Village location. We look forward to continuing to host you in the years to come, thank you for being part of our member community!
Fantastic experience: Altea is a one-stop gym that suits so many different needs. Melissa Tung’s yoga and 50/50 (half yoga, half Pilates) classes are amazing. She’s clear in her instructions, offers modifications and the classes are never boring. Samantha Kreindel’s Pilates classes are top notch too. The facility is incredible — it has a pool, a restaurant, an affordable reformer Pilates studio and so much more. You can’t go wrong!
Greatly appreciate the review Diana and kind words towards the facility, as well as Melissa & Samantha's classes! We hope you have a wonderful long weekend and see you again soon!
Negative experience: Paying $200/month for a membership where the scale in the Men's changeroom has been out of service for almost 3 weeks is wild to me. This place is always packed regardless of what time you go. If this is the case I don't see why its not a 24hr gym, you can pay $18/month for a 24/7 gym with more equipment.
Appreciate the feedback and opportunity to further elaborate. Our men's scale in the changeroom is high usage and unfortunately did go down, which in these instances requires repair (sometimes under warranty depending) or full replacement. Rest assured, we have placed a temporary scale for member use until the permanent scale is returned.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been going to this gym now for almost a full year and I most definitely feel like it’s worth every penny I pay. I love fitness and the variety here in addition to the extra amenities like the steam room and pool is just that extra bit of luxury worth it all the way.
Happy almost 1 year at Altea, Anika! We're elated to hear you've had an exceptional experience thus far, we look forward to continuing to host you at the club.
Positive experience: Clean gym with lots of options and amenities. Still very busy and over crowded at times similar to a goodlife, also very hard to find a locker. Luxury prices without a luxury experience.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, Joseph! We appreciate you acknowledging the various amenities and cleanliness.
Fantastic experience: I've been at Altea around 7 or 8 months. My experience has been great. The gym itself has been one of the best gyms I've been to in a long time. When I first came to Altea, one of the sales people told me I probably wouldn't find a better gym around Liberty Village or West Queen West. I thought that was a pretty big flex and I wasn't quite so sure I believed it. However, she was right, I've tried out other gyms around these areas. While there are some very good options, Altea is by far the best. To start, the facilities are pretty good. They're well maintained, the equipment is brand new and always seems to be in order, easy to access and organized. There's a lot of room to train without hassle on the third floor. In addition to that, I can say that the staff at the front desk is always friendly and attentive. If you have a question, they'll know how to answer it. I was also impressed by the administrative staff, which is very good at what they do. I'm not someone that's easily impressed, but the people that I spoke to that sold me on the gym are perfect at what they do. I've been to many other places, and none have measured up so far. With that said, the part I have liked the most about Altea is LF3. The best way for me to work out has always been in group settings, with fast-paced classes that push you to the limit. One of my fitness goals had always been go 5 times a week to the gym. I used to go 3 times a week in the afternoon. Now I've shifted that to 5 times a week at 5 am every day. I don't think I'm ever going to change that. And then there are the coaches, which I think are the most important part. I don't know who will be reading this, but I would like to also say that the coaches at LF3 are top-notch. In particular, Jenna and Will are pretty great. I really like that their style is pretty much all or nothing. Jenna's classes have the perfect playlist to work out, and she encourages you to keep pushing to the last second. In the same manner, Will is probably an expert in anything that involves strength training. You can learn a ton from his classes. He also always encourages you to keep going heavier as you gain strength. Out of all the phases I've gone through LF3, the current strength phase is my favorite, and it's largely because Will designed it. Finally, I haven't really checked out the other classes or the social events at Altea, but I will probably be doing that at some point in the future. I'm sure there's still a lot to discover there.
Great to hear your experience in these 7-8 months has been nothing short of exceptional, Ernesto! Your kind words towards our facility and staff are appreciated. As for exploring our other amenities, we can't wait for you to dive into the diverse classes and events we have to offer! Thank you for your review and being part of our community.
Fantastic experience: As both an Altea member and a recent co-organizer of a fundraising event in their social space, I couldn't be more thrilled at the overall experience, quality of support, and genuine commitment to partnering to throw an amazing event shown by the Altea team. From the moment we first began to explore a partnership to celebrate Holland Bloorview Kids Rehab Hospital's Capes for Kids campaign at Altea's Catalyst Kitchen social space, the events coordinator Amber and her team demonstrated a true and immensely-inspiring desire to make the experience an unforgettable one. Looking back on the event and the planning leading up to it, I don't think our group has ever been so well-taken-care of and so privileged in terms of the space and people around which we can 'catalyze' Torontonians for such an important and fulfilling cause. Talking to attendees throughout the eve, folks were absolutely gushing about the range of fun activities available (bowling, air hockey, driving range, great food and drinks, just to name a few!) and the very-elevated vibe of space. Many were clearly sufficiently in-awe to begin exploring getting an Altea membership themselves! We can't thank Amber and the Altea team enough for making our Capes for Kids experience for 2024 one of the city's best social occasions in the year so far - I'm stoked for anyone reading this who's looking for somewhere to begin a gym membership, host an event, or both! You're in great hands, and there's tons to look forward to when it comes to partnering with Altea and its phenomenal team! :)
Wow thank you so much for the raving review Michael, we are so thrilled to hear you had an unforgettable experience with us! Thank you for choosing us for your event and we look forward to hosting you again in the future!
Fantastic experience: I have been a member at Altea since October 2022. I love the environment, and the facilities are great. The thing that makes my experience exceptional though, is working with Taylor Hurlock, a terrific and competent personal trainer on the Altea staff. Taylor has helped me build both my strength, and my confidence in the gym. She is very attentive, and builds a plan based on your individual needs, strengths & preferences. If you are looking for a PT that will push you, and is always good for a laugh, I highly recommend working with Taylor at Altea!
Appreciate the raving review towards Personal Training and Taylor! She is truly a master of her craft, and we are elated to hear you're hitting all your PT goals!
Fantastic experience: Everything was great with our corporate event that we hosted with you! We had so much fun. It was perfect from the moment we arrived. Asia knew exactly who we were and where we needed to be. Kenton and Nylee were very attentive when we were in the Urban Playground. And our Zumba class with Alberto was so great. He was amazing! Also, the food was delicious. I’m so glad that we decided to come and have our corporate event with you. I appreciate all of your help in order to make sure that everything went so smoothly.
So glad to hear the corporate event lived up to your expectations, Jen! Alberto is our Zumba STAR and we're overjoyed that you felt that energy in his class. We will pass along your raving review to the rest of our team, thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review and we hope to host you again soon!
Negative experience: Love the classes, staff are friendly, the trainers are great, but for the price of membership the facilities should be better maintained. The mats and benches are all cracked, the Ybell weights are all peeling, and the showers are the grossest showers I have ever seen - the paint is peeling on the ceilings, there is mold in each of the showers (in the corners, on the ceiling and even on the walls), there are some with no doors or they don't actually lock properly, and even no handles to turn the shower on in some.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, Stephanie. We kindly appreciate your kind words towards our team and Personal Trainers. In direct response to your feedback regarding the mats, Y-Bells, benches, etc. we are actively seeking the necessary improvements required such as the recently repaired bench upholstery. We would like to reiterate the health and safety of our members is of utmost priority, and we have and will continue to take the steps to remedy where needed. Should you wish to discuss further, please contact [email protected].
Fantastic experience: I've been a member at Altea for the past 2 years (since the club founding) and had a great experience thus far. Altea has everything you would want in a fitness facility, including spacious workout studios, classes, aquatics and even a cowork space. To maximize the value I'd recommend using it all. Staff is generally very friendly, and the club atmosphere is pleasant (can be a little pretentious at times). Only complaint is occasional equipment outages, especially in the aquatics. Also, some of the aquatics equipment choices are a little questionable - why have a lukewarm tub that nobody uses instead of a cold plunge? Overall, highly recommend this club!
Happy 2 year anniversary to you as a member, Yuri! Appreciate the feedback as it is crucial for our continued improvement(s) over time. Thank you for being a loyal member since day 1 :)
Negative experience: Another update: making cancellations so difficult. Why do I have to be physically present at the gym to cancel a membership in today’s world where everything is online? When I came in at 8:30pm, they told me they only process cancellations from 8am to 8pm. Come on Altea, enough is enough. Update: bumping down to 1 star why? Because when I showed up at the gym at 11pm as usual, they told me they changed the hours to close from midnight to 11pm… never received an email about this and what a waste of time to go all the way to the gym…. Also there are people who like to do gym late in the night, these decisions should have considered these members and be overly communicated….. very disappointed They also recently cancelled a lot of interesting classes…. Lots of members are quite upset about it. What’s the difference between Altea and good life? Good life also offers spin, yoga etc and they open 24/7… After half year being a member, I’d like to give my two cents to the owner of the gym. Starting from where can improve: - two huge hot tubs are a complete waste. Why? Cuz it’s simply not hot. There are many comments about it, not sure why it’s not already fixed. - the restaurant/bowling/topfolf should be made more complementary than pay as use. There are almost no one who uses those, do you want to lower the price and get more members actively enjoying it or just leave as empty as no one wants to pay a premium to eat and play bowling/golf after already paying a premium to the gym membership? - you are trying to promote the collaborative gym/working environment, then have more phone rooms, there’s only one currently. I often run into issues where I need take a work call and music is to damn loud! - Music is way too loud to work. Remember this is a gym and collaborative space not a night club. - Cut the restaurant space and have more venues like healthy food options, sandwiches, cafes etc. - The social events I’ve never joined one, why? Cuz they cost extra money. Feel it’s more of an excuse to charge the members rather than for the spirit of creating a community for active living! There’s a ton of free events ideas, you need set the right mindset rather than just creating excuses to charge members more. - Gym upstairs is way too crowded. Machines have no space between each other. Should reorganize the space on second floor and create functional areas rather than dumping all machines all together. Good things: - swimming pool is large and proper. - sauna and steam saunas have the proper temperature. - Steve’s spin class is amazing. - hot yoga is a great way to relax my mind and body after a week of weights training. - the boot camps and dancing classes are amazing and such a mood boost.
Appreciate your valuable feedback KT as it helps us improve, evolve, and further assist our Altea member base. Your insights are helpful in assisting with the experience we are striving to deliver. - For your hot tub feedback, can you kindly email [email protected] with the date/time the temperature may not have been optimal? With our consistent pool check schedule, we do monitor temperature as part of this and want to re-review our records if needed. Otherwise we do have a weekly shutdown/clean/refill/reheat on Friday afternoons. Sometimes after this process we do receive feedback of the hot tub being on the cooler side, after a few hours it should be back to normal! - We just recently revamped our grab & go food offerings available in the Altea food hall - wraps, salads, fruits, sandwiches, etc. This revamp was based on feedback so if there is something we are not currently offering that you would like to see on our menu, we're all ears! - On occasion when we require 3rd party support for our on-site events, there is a member exclusive rate. Rest assured, we do have quite a few complimentary member events coming up such as trivia, bingo night, and professional networking! Stay tuned and hope to see you there. Thank you for being part of our community and for your feedback.
Fantastic experience: It is a spectacular place. I have been training there in the afternoons for 1 year, and I have noticed the great change in the facilities. The only thing I don't like so much is that there are more and more people and sometimes it is impossible to train. The classes are excellent, especially in the study of cycling. I want to acknowledge that they recently changed the afternoon cleaning person, a friendly girl who attends to the cleaning needs that were required in the weight and cardio area, before there was a lot of dust everywhere and now it is a clean place. , all the people there are really very friendly. I love this new stage of the Altea gym
Thank you so much for your glowing review, Luna! We are delighted to hear about your positive experience at Altea over the past year. It's wonderful to know you've noticed significant improvements in our facilities, amenities and cleanliness. Also great to hear you're enjoying the Cycle classes. hank you for being part of our community and have a wonderful long weekend!
Fantastic experience: Good gym. Can’t complain. Also recommend it. One thing though Altea if you see this. Please do not oversell memberships cause I’ve been here since day 1 and it’s definitely gotten way busier to the point where sometimes it’s tough to even get a workout in cause every machine is taken and the free weight area is people standing on top of each other. Besides that keep up the good work and I appreciate the community update emails and the constant improvements!
Thank you for your positive review and feedback! We're glad to hear you've had a good experience and appreciate your loyalty to our community since day 1. We understand the importance of a comfortable environment and are actively working to provide more workout space for our community, such as relocating the lounge area located beside the H20 Bar on our 3rd level. These facility enhancements will continue over time, thanks again for the feedback and recommending our facility!
Fantastic experience: Love this gym! Especially the LF3 strong group classes and the kids club! Without the kids club in the mornings I wouldn’t be able to go to a gym at all so this is the most valuable. Those LF3 classes are really helping to build my strength sustainably without having to think about structuring my own sessions.
Participation = results! Glad you're greatly utilizing and enjoying both the Active Kids Club and LF3 program.
Fantastic experience: We had the pleasure of attending a party hosted at Altea’s event space this past Saturday. The food, drinks, and service were excellent to say the least. In particular, we had a server named Michaela that went above and beyond to ensure each of us were looked after properly. Thanks to Michaela and the rest of the staff at Altea, we had a great time overall.
Appreciate the 5-star review Braunwynn, so glad you had a great time at the event! Hope to see you again soon :)
Fantastic experience: I absolutely love it here!! I signed up for the pool and am staying for the hot yoga with Alex! You guys need a bigger studio because it’s getting more and more difficult to book into his classes. Alex’s guidance during the yin classes has helped me to make progress physically as well as mentally! Looking forward to trying his anti gravity class next!
Thank you for taking the time to share your positive experiences, we're thrilled to hear you're enjoying both our pool and fitness classes. We appreciate the feedback and look forward to seeing you in anti-gravity, Dylan!
Fantastic experience: Altea is great, however, this review is about the smoothie bar. I‘ve recently been diagnosed with Celiac disease, and ordering food has become challenging. Most people have no clue what Celiac is, or they get annoyed when I try to explain it to them. KK from the smoothie bar was so kind and really took the time to customize a smoothie for me. I tried a gluten-free version of strawberries and cream. I don’t mind paying $20+ tip for a smoothie when the service is this excellent! (I honestly forgot Altea had a smoothie bar) Overall, the smoothie was delicious and the overall experience was great I will definitely be adding this spot to my Celiac friendly list
Thanks so much for your review, Nicole! We are happy to hear our team handled your modifications with care and ease. Your next smoothie is on us, during your next visit be sure to pickup your voucher at the front desk :)
Fantastic experience: Amber Carlsson helped us organize what turned out to be a fantastic evening for a group of 16 60 year olds. She kept in good contact with me all along the planning process and followed up afterwards as well. The staff at Altea are all so friendly and helpful. Marlene ran a great antigravity yoga class, the food in the restaurant was delicious and your offer of the use of the bowling lanes in the lounge was fantastic. Our group hung out for quite some time playing bowling as well as using the pinball machines and both the hockey games. The facilities are gorgeous. If I lived downtown, I would definitely consider a membership. I did have a snag the following day when my husband thought he may have left his credit card at the facility. The woman in sales who I spoke to refused to let me know if it was there, stating company policy. I don’t live nearby and it would have been extremely inconvenient to go downtown just to see if they had it. In the meantime, he did find it and Amber is also following up for me.
Thanks so much for the review Joanie, we're so glad to hear your group had a great time! We will pass along your positive feedback to Amber and Marlene, and we hope to host you again soon :)
Negative experience: Honestly not worth the extreme price, it felt like ever week or 2 I would get an email saying the prices were being raised which I couldn’t fathom. Imagine paying these absolutely obscene prices just for there to not be nearly enough equipment and the equipment they have is dirty, out of order or advertised but not actually available. That’s the Altea experience. Plus they advertise all of these amenities but fail to tell you upon registration that they are all an extra charge on top of the membership price. Not worth it at all, save your money and build a home gym it’ll be cheaper and in better condition.
Good afternoon Dean, Upon review we see that you cancelled your membership back in October. During your time with us, you were on an annual commitment that never increased in price up until you submitted your cancellation. Any services not included in the membership type selected are as outlined on our website and throughout the sign-up process - such as Personal Training, Reformer Pilates, and our Food and Beverage services. Although you're no longer a member, we're happy to further clarify by emailing [email protected].
Negative experience: Been coming to this gym for a little over a year and a half. The building is nice, gym facility is good to use mid-day during the week. Gets overcrowded quick on evenings and weekends. Catalyst restaurant has good food but having a membership has no benefit there as you can just buy a day-pass ($30-$50) and use the full amount as credit at the restaurant if you plan to eat there. Membership fees are relatively high compared to it's luxury fitness gym competitors. Various amenities that should be included in the membership fees are often out of service for weeks at a time (hot tub, steam room, cold room etc.) Front desk customer service staff are welcoming and friendly but when signing up, make sure you read the contract carefully. The Sales team in particular are young and inexperienced. I've been "misinformed" multiple times with no flexibility or corrective action on the Management's end to rectify any situation. Bottomline: for $250.00 +/- per month (Platinum membership) Altea does not live up to the hype. You're better off with Equinox.
Thank you for being part of the Altea community, Joe. We especially appreciate the positive words towards our facility! Our guest pass policy is amended from time-to-time, and the current Catalyst promotion is intended to allow guests of members to enjoy our new menu of food & cocktails. Our hot tub, steam room, and cold room have daily cleaning and maintenance and although the hot tub pump recently required service, it is back up and running! All new members receive a copy of their agreement upon sign-up, should you wish to discuss further we'd be happy to by emailing [email protected].
Positive experience: Firstly you need to take into account that this is a review for a $200+ a month gym (min $102.95 BI WEEKLY, max $159.95 BI WEEKLY) and not just a GoodLife so the expectations are a little higher. 1. They over sold memberships. Once 6pm rolls around it’s not even worth showing up. Every single machine is being used, pool, sauna and steam room are packed and the free weights is like a zoo. Thats on the gym. If you’re going to charge those prices there has to be some kind of exclusivity 2. Once things get worn they don’t fix them. For the price we pay I don’t understand how the preacher curl pads are completely cracked and worn down all the time, is this planet fitness? Same with the bench press benches. For such a new gym the showers and facility has not been maintained as well as you’d expect 3. Pool and sauna. Great bonus right? Well it gets cleaned every week day from 3-3:45. So if you’re someone like me who goes to the gym everyday after work in that time period there is a ZERO chance you’ll ever get to use the pool or sauna. Imagine paying up to $318 a month and not be able to hit the sauna after your workout! Can they not have rotating cleaning time so their paying customers all get a chance to use the amenities? It sounds like a small thing but a lot of people have set gym schedules due to work or home life. So a gym that you’re paying over $200 a month for now has no sauna or pool. It’s not a bad gym at all. They have great classes available, a handful of amenities and overall it’s a fun boujee gym. But you’re paying an arm and a leg to be there. At the right time of the day it’s a great experience and altea is a really good gym but at the wrong time of the day you’re going to feel like you’re at a Fit4Less paying over 200 bucks a month
Appreciate the feedback as we continue to improve and evolve, Matthew. Earlier this year we did have a membership waitlist due to being at member capacity, since we have continued to monitor in order to best protect overall member experience. Some of our highly used equipment will inevitably show minor signs of wear and tear however we either work to fix or order replacement from TechnoGym. Our on-site maintenance team uses an internal tracking system to flag and monitor what may be requiring attention and expected timeframe for resolution. Our daily Aquatics Center shutdown for cleaning and maintenance is 3pm weekdays however 1:15pm on weekends. We look forward to continuing to service you in the future and thank you for being a member!
Positive experience: Members are nice, made a lot if good connections among the members amenities are nice but not maintained the hit tub has been broken for months some times gym equipment breaks and that's fine its bound to happen with the a mound of people who use the space but again it takes months to fix a cable machine. For the amount a member ship cost to go here these things should be fixed asap. Also the catalyst is now not open a lot of the time for members because of private parties, which again with the amount of money you have to pay to be a member here that should always be open to us, I've worked in leadership positions in multiple corporate gyms and can assure you that they don't make decisions with the members in mind but strictly the bottom line, but the crowd that works out there is absolutely lovely.
Thank you for providing your feedback, Michael! I'm sure you've noticed that the hot tub was reopened last week, prior to we were waiting for a part that took the 3rd party some time to source a replacement for a hot tub of our size. We do have an on-site maintenance team that is working to troubleshoot facilities concerns as they arise, as for the cable machine we were sure to order the specific cable required for that TechnoGym crossover machine. Outside of private corporate/Holiday parties we're happy to announce we have recently extended our Catalyst hours on Friday/Saturday evenings as well as NFL Sunday's! We look forward to hosting you again soon on these days, or alternatively our newly launched margarita Monday!
Negative experience: Had a bad experience with Altea and card charges. Although my credit card was capable of being charged (open, with enough credit, being used elsewhere) - somehow they stated they were unable to process it, but yet were able to charge that SAME credit card with a penalty fee. Following a call to resolve, they couldn’t forgive the $28 penalty fee despite paying membership fees of over $300 a month. Talk about good customer experience
Thank you for leaving a review, Nat. We understand there was some frustration regarding payments recently collected. Should you wish to continue the conversation, we're all ears at [email protected].
