The Water Tower Inn, BW Premier Collection, located in Sault Ste Marie, Canada, offers a comfortable stay with various amenities appealing to families and business travelers alike. The Water Tower Inn, BW Premier Collection: Opinions
Negative experience: Elevator was broke every day we were there. Ballroom smelled like urine, the men said the water was turned off in their urinals. Food was okay but all buns were frozen not fresh so were dried out. Indoor hot tub also was down. Place needs some serious updates.
Positive experience: My friends and I stayed at the Governor General’s Suite for my birthday. The place was great, clean, spacious and we had a good time. We also had great service at the pool and I definitely recommend the outside whirlpool in this weather! Housekeepers were also friendly and accommodating. Though, I’m rating it 3 stars because of the receptionist who has rude and unprofessional. While my friends were waiting for me at the lobby, the receptionist already gave them bad looks and stares. According to my friends she had an attitude and I agreed to it because as soon as I opened our hotel room and not even getting the chance to get settled, the phone rang and she said “if i get a noise complaint from you”. In a tone that feels very sassy and threatening. This was at 12am, I understand that we are teenagers and we can be loud which can disturb other guests but she could have said it in a better way and in a better tone. We had plans for that night but we had to be very mindful of the noise we were making because of the phone call she made that made us feel threatened. Hopefully you treat all your guests with equality. No matter what race, age, or situations your guests are in.
Positive experience: Only stayed for two nights but it was a good experience. The service was nice and friendly. Plenty of free parking, 5 minute drive from downtown Sault Ste Marie. Inside the hotel there is a Casey's restaurant as well as a small Starbucks coffee shop which is great in the morning. The rooms were nice and clean. The only things that I didn't like was the complimentary breakfast doesn't even deserve a one star. It was that bad and everyone in my group complained about the same thing. The second day I was there I went and bought breakfast at Casey's. The elevator are super slow, especially the one in the back. The rooms were clean however when walking through the hotel there are some areas where the carpet really needs to be cleaned or replaced. All these things are minor things and shouldn't prevent you from making a decision to stay there. Also I want to add that it's a great place for families, they have a nice big pool for the kids and a spa for the adults. As for places to eat there are plenty of places to eat close by within a few minutes walk from the hotel. From fast food like McDonald's, Wendy's and Tim Hortons to different types of restaurants therefore getting something to eat is not an issue at all there. Personally I would definitely stay there again if for some reason I ever had to go back to Sault Ste Marie again.
Fantastic experience: We stayed 3 nights here and it was very nice! The rooms, pool and outdoor hot tub all are great and the place is very clean, has a pretty cool layout too which I liked. Would stay here again!
Positive experience: Staying in the Govern General Suite and it's been a pleasant stay. That said the room is dated but very clean! Neither shower has any type of shelf so you do need to put your amenities on the floor. The service is absolutely excellent! Right from booking to this evening all the staff have been friendly and accommodating. The location is excellent, less than 10 minutes to the boarder and surrounded by many food and entertainment options. The Waters are great, clean and lots of room for guests. The box lunches for the train were okay, but next time I'd pack my own. I would definitely recommend a stay here!
Fantastic experience: Stay here a few times, and we have always enjoyed our stay.
Fantastic experience: The 3 night stay was great. Location has everything nearby. Wifi and digital TV had some connection issues. It was very limited. Beautiful spot. Would recommend. Love that it has Starbucks and Casey's onsite.
Positive experience: Hotel is very expensive for what it is in terms of rooms not being very updated. Stayed in a 5th floor king room was clean and well kept tho. Pool was warm indoor hot tub was closed sauna was warm but cold pool was shallow and more geared for children outdoor jacuzzi was nice but would like a cold plunge option for a "spa" hotel experience. Staff were friendly minimal interaction which is nice. But again very expensive $400+ for quality of hotel and views. Advertised as lake view and bridge view...yes if you look to the far right of the rooms and push your face against the glass you can see the steel plant.
Fantastic experience: My go to hotel. As far as I'm concerned a room is a room. A place to lay your head. This place stands out because of their staff. Helpful friendly and polite you can't find better. A big shout out to Nicole a shinning star for sure. She has always made sure my stay was as comfortable as possible! Thanks to the whole staff you guys are great!
Positive experience: It's a pretty dated but well maintained hotel. Staff and service were both very friendly. The rooms were a good size and clean. Located on the busy section of The Soo, with all kinds of food options. Recommended.
Fantastic experience: Gladly will go back again! Make sure if you go for the Agawa train ride you get there package!
Fantastic experience: My friend had her wedding here and I have been here many times for various events. While I didn’t stay the night we did get ready in her room which was a part of the wedding package. It had nice space to it with a fireplace and a huge bathroom. It was a bit outdated and one of the windows was missing on the door but otherwise it was clean. They got embroidered house coats which was a nice touch and a mini fridge. Cozy for sure. The hall was small as it was an intimate wedding. The food was served family style and it was very excellent! Tasty and we were all very impressed. Staff offered us seconds and were attentive. The staff was very good at organizing for our arrival and walking us through how the ceremony would go, where we’d enter, providing us with any tables and chairs that we needed. Overall it’s a great place for a wedding honestly. There’s plenty of parking and the restaurant is very good as well. For those out of town individuals, the hotel is located very central as well, right off highway 17 so it’s easy to get to where you need to go. There are pools and hot tubs but I never used these.
Fantastic experience: great place to stay all the the staff here were excellent , we would definetly stay here again 5 stars for sure Dave
Fantastic experience: This place is amazing. We were to stay only one night on a fully booked weekend however my wife had an emergency medical issue, and they were able accommodate me for another 6 days. Unbelievable and very much appreciated.
Fantastic experience: Great hotel, not a bad price, rooms are a little dated but not bad, they did not give us clean towels or make the bed for the 3 days we were there but Still a decent stay
Positive experience: It kinda smelled like stale cigarettes even though they said it was no smoking. Overpriced.
Positive experience: Rooms are old and stink of cigarettes. Cater to dogs more than cats, as they leave out dog dishes and dog treats, but nothing for cat owners. I would recommend that you update some of the rooms or at least deep clean them so they don't smell like cigarettes and wet dog.
Negative experience: Hotel is very dated and in need of a makeover...old carpets and furniture. Possible mold in tub ..breakfast not included,?? Wow I figured it would be at the price I paid.
Fantastic experience: Very clean room very acomadaing staff we will come back , great breakfast
Fantastic experience: Incredible value, comfort, cleanliness in a welcoming yet professional environment. Sam helped me book my reservation using my points to pay for my stay on the BW Member Rewards app which took less than 2 minutes; It was easy and hassle free. Always a first choice for hotel brand is BW. I stay 200+ nights in a hotel on average per year for business and pleasure related purposes. $180.99CAD or 24000 points for what value I would give $280+. Tammy who is clearly one of the rockstar team members helped me with my key when I had an issue. Car at the front desk has such a professional demeanour, and these ladies truly do represent this brand well!!!!! Highly recommend. BONUS: There is a Casey’s Restaurant and Pub attached to the hotel, yum. Stay tuned!
Fantastic experience: We spent two nights at this property in a trip around Lake Superior. While there's not much within walking distance (mostly neighborhood shopping), the property makes up for it with an incredibly friendly, helpful staff. When we checked in the clerk took a real interest in what we were doing, took time to recommend a local restaurant which was dead on for our interests, and took us over to a display of tourist literature and recommended the Bushplane Heritage Centre. This hadn't even been on our radar and we ended up spending several hours there the next morning. She also recommended a Finnish bakery which we went to the morning we left and it, too, was a gem. If I owned a hotel, I would want it run like this one!
Fantastic experience: 2nd Visit up and has been a good place to stay. Room was nice and cozy. Service was really good. Reception very helpful and customer friendly. Food was good. Tried their in-house made pizza and wings and was tasty. The swimming pool indoors was maintained including the hit tub. The outdoor pool was closed this visit.
Positive experience: Room was nice but dated. No issue with service in hotel, but breakfast staff are a bit standoffish and curt. Location makes it easy to get around.
Positive experience: Awesome pools, sauna, hot tub. Staff super friendly rooms spacious and large. Problem is theft in the parking lot. We had 2 mountain bikes stolen from our truck in parking lot. I know that this is preventable. I think future guests need to be aware that this happens. Do NOT leaving anything secured to your car. Bring it into hotel room.
Fantastic experience: The best service we have ever had at a hotel. The room was very clean, pool and sauna were great. The to go breakfast was fantastic. We will definitely be booking again.
Fantastic experience: Decent hotel, restaurant service was great, hotel staff friendly
Fantastic experience: We have stayed here several times so far and it has always been a good experience. Although the hotel itself is not perfect (but very nice and clean) what truly sets the standard of excellence is the staff. They are friendly and helpful and we are always impressed. During our last visit our cleaning person, Connie, went above and beyond when we had a big mess to clean. Thank you.
Positive experience: Love this place. I stay every time im going through the soo and have a reset to do. The staff is AMAZING
Fantastic experience: Came to town for a tournament and the staff were amazing. They indulged pretty much any & all requests, Will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to the Sault
Positive experience: A decent option for a hotel in SSE - probably one of the nicer Best Westerns you’ll come across. Lots of activities on site, great for families. I am surprised that a hotel of this calibre doesn’t have breakfast included.
Negative experience: I'm in hour 3 of trying to sleep at this place. It's gotta be the noisiest hotel I've ever stayed at. Loud drunks roam the halls. Was just woken up by a raving lunatic trying to break into cars in the parking lot. Outside my window there seems to be a cigarette convention. Dumpy room, dirty, beyond disappointed. Conveniently located along a noisy highway. Can't wait to get the hell out of here. There is no way this is a 3 star hotel. Calling it a 2 star would be generous.
Positive experience: Had a short stay but the staff made it very friendly A+ for them didn't get a chance to use any amenities bit there are lots to choose from overall a great experience
Fantastic experience: Staff was nice, place was clean and comfortable. Included breakfast was great too.
Fantastic experience: The front desk staff were professional yet friendly. They were welcoming and enthusiastic about my furry travel companion. The room reflected the service. I highly recommend the Water Tower Inn BW.
Fantastic experience: Excellent customer service. Rooms fully pre-booked. Clean surrounding.
Fantastic experience: near McDonald's, Tim Hortons, Shell and lots of others. Has a pool with hottub and sauna. Gym available. Wifi Available. Convenience store next door. Has a restaurant with a bar attached to it.
Fantastic experience: Allways love staying there great service. Good food . Very clean rooms and spacious
Fantastic experience: My friend and I stopped here at the last minute. We had a wonderful stay. Lovely place, clean, welcoming staff. Nicole at reception was absolutely wonderful. She went above and beyond! We enjoyed the classics at Casey's, too, (spinach and artichoke dip, red pepper soup are must haves, imo. ) Talented musicians in the pub too, as their music wafted into Casey's. Overall, it was a great experience. In addition, on our second stay, we really loved Alexis, the wait staff at breakfast. So incredibly welcoming and friendly.
Positive experience: Hotel no longer includes free breakfast. Otherwise the place is good
Fantastic experience: This is now my favorite place in Sault Ste. Marie to stay. It used to be Quattro, but this place blows that out of the water. The front desk staff were very helpful and even held the door open for me when I was getting my 3 young hand luggage into the building. Funny thing too is that the woman who checked me in was actually someone who I randomly talked to 15 years ago! Incidentally, she comped my family's breakfast! The breakfast was delicious and the waitress at the restaurant was very pleasant. The rooms were spotless as well. I really wish I could have tried out the hot tub there, but it was probably not the best idea with young children. The price is worth the stay. If I wasn't on a tight budget while travelling, I would make a habit of staying there every time!
Fantastic experience: Ro at the front desk worked so hard to get me a pet-friendly room after I mistakenly booked a regular room through Expedia (pro tip - call ahead if using Expedia). After a very challenging few days on the road, including a visit to the emergency vet, we needed a safe, quiet, clean place to stay. Thanks to Ro, we got exactly what the doctor ordered! Highly recommend!
Positive experience: We love staying at the Water Tower Inn with our dogs. The hotel provides 2 dog dishes, 2 milk bone treats, and 2 doggy poop bags. The rooms are clean and the shower-tub combo is decent. The shower curtain can stick to you, I wish it was a sliding door or a curved curtain rod. The pool area is quite lovely. There's a spot to lay on a chaise lounger and be a lizard under a heat lamp, an outdoor hot tub that closes at 9:45pm and the indoor pools, hot tub, lounge, and sauna close at 10pm. It would be nice if they stayed open until 11, at least for persons over the age of 18 so adults can get some relaxing time if arriving late after a full day of traveling. It would also be nice if the rooms came with cutlery, just in case. For the price of the rooms, I'm surprised there's not a continental breakfast (that's the main reason I'm not eating a full 5 stars). We love this place and we choose it time and time again.
Negative experience: When Hunter is working at the pool, I find she is very argumentative towards the families with littles. I understand mentioning the rules of the pool, but to become aggressive and argue with paying customers rubs me the wrong way. I would suggest they have trained employees for talking to guests. Tourism and Hospitality thrives on excellent customer service, which Hunter is not made for. We enjoyed the Family Suite, bathrooms are small.
Fantastic experience: Huge room with a panoramic view of the bay. Went to sleep overlooking lights on the water and woke to brilliant sunshine and a clear view across the water.
Negative experience: HORRIBLE!!! They claim they’re a BW Premiere hotel, they’re the WORST BW I’ve ever stayed at. The front desk staff were unfriendly & rude. We booked a room with a King bed. Not only was the room ridiculously small, the bathroom was so small, the door had to open outwards into the room. There was no counter space. The walk in shower was a very poor design with the faucet & shower head on the opposite side of where you step in. The A/C didn’t work properly & was very noisy. Don’t waste your money
Fantastic experience: I really enjoyed my stay here for a work trip. Nicole and Cas (I think? So sorry if this is wrong) at reception were really helpful and so friendly. From accommodating an early check in which I can't emphasize enough was so relieving after a flight and a few meetings, to helping me book a taxi in a town I hadn't been to before. (And doesn't seem to have Uber so beware!) The restaurant had such a nice atmosphere and the staff were great even though it was so busy on a Monday night. Food was great too. The walls are a little thin but it wasn't anything bumping up the AC couldn't fix and I'm super sensitive to noise. The rooms were clean and the mattress was perfect. I didn't get a chance to enjoy the Cabana but it looked really nice. The wifi was dependable and fast. I don't think it's downtown but even without a car you're able to walk to a mall with plenty of fast food and sit down restaurants around, however I recommend eating at the hotel. It was a cool little hotel and if I'm back in the soo I'll return!
Negative experience: NOT A FAMILY FRIENDLY HOTEL!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY SLEEP IN YOUR CAR!!! Or book elsewhere this is just a bar with rooms to use for doing drugs or passing out drunk… We stayed here tonight and the hotels full of drunks? There is no parking that your vehicle will be safe in. It’s filthy dirty here the staff could care less, They even kept the bar in the front open late which most of the drunks here have taken the safe parking spots at the front of the hotel leaving the unsafe spots in the back available for guests. Steady reviews on trip advisor of people whose cars have been broken into?!? No cameras in any of the parking areas… All of the parking spots which are within eyesight of the front desk are full of people drinking in the bar past closing time (I believe the owners having a private party in the bar here “Casey’s” which leaves only the spots people are reporting their cars being broken into available. I’ve encountered several drunk intoxicated people in the hallways and elevators here it’s like spring break for deadbeat losers. We were told by management or the desk clerk that the bar closed at 11pm and parking spots would be available then. Only to come downstairs to a private party in the bar??? It’s almost midnight and the party’s still going here this place is no more than a dive bar with rooms for rent…. The prices don’t reflect the quality of the rooms or the facility is sub par and not family friendly. STAY ELSEWHERE THIS IS THE WORST HOTEL IVE EVER STAYED AT IN THE 43 years I’ve been alive!!! The staff here don’t care about the guests they’re here for a quick buck…. I will never stay in this Shi7hole of a bar with rooms ever again!!! This place should be closed the liquor inspector needs to investigate these after hours party’s…. This place is a dive and not worth the headaches of wasting your evening waiting for a parking spot to open up…. I’ll be contacting best western and the liquor inspector this week!!! I’m currently waiting for the private party to end!!!
Negative experience: Do not book here! Cheap rates but cheap motel. Smells and looks old. Cleaning staff don't have a clue about making up a room. Continental breakfast is lacking. Room keys are easily demagnetized. Okay if stay is for one night but we stayed for 3 and will not be returning. People smoke in the rooms. I think it's a temporary shelter for some locals. Not recommended at all.
Positive experience: It was good experience over all. Place is very good. Easy access to alot of places such as Walmart, tim Hortons, McDonalds, and other necessities. Rooms were good and clean. Service was bot that great specially in the food area that they have, its actually part of the hotel. It would’ve been best experience if they had provide good service. I wanted to go eat there but changed my mind because i asked to fill my bottle of water and the waitress sent me to 3 other people so they can fill up my water bottle as thats the only place you can get water, the person who finally gave me water, handed me water bottle rudely. I figured after cuz i wasn’t paying customer so no tip to them. Unfortunately thats only where you can get drinking water tho. So bring your own water people. Other than that very good experience
Negative experience: Called to inquire about making a specific type of reservation for the following day. There was only one person who was there to help me. Unfortunately, she was in a meeting, but the person at the desk took a message and let me know that she would call me before she left for the day. I called back later, but she was already gone, and now I have no way of booking accommodations even elsewhere for what I needed, in time. I do understand everyone wants to go home at the end of their day, especially when they've been in meetings, but this is not good service. The least this hotel could do is ensure more than just one individual is able to accommodate customers. I'll be hard-pressed to recommend this hotel ever again to anyone who comes to visit us in the Soo.
Negative experience: I felt compelled to remove a previous positive review and write this one. I've stayed here 3-4 times per year for years and it's always been great. Now it is under new ownership and has been in constant decline. The "business centre" printer is down. Both hot tubs have not worked in over a month. The indoor pool is digustingly warm and the sauna sometimes works. The gym on the other hand is freezing and set below healthy guidelines. The housekeeping staff is great, but I'm not sure what the remaining staff there do.
Positive experience: Exactly what you paid for. Service was great, room was good for the price, and the location was right on our route through! The shower water pressure was a little light, which wasn't great, and the bathroom door kinda sucked but overall would go again!
Positive experience: Stay here for business. The staff is super friendly. Location has oodles of restaurants surrounding it. Rooms are nice and very clean.
Fantastic experience: Great hotel stay. Some complained beds are lumpy but the conference facilities and amenities were perfect, and more than made up for it! Great hotel all around! :)
Positive experience: A nice resort. I stayed in a single queen room which was handicap accessible and I was told all the single queen rooms were like that. Weird, with the open shower. Otherwise, basic room, clean, not huge but enough. Outside of "downtown"
Positive experience: I have stayed at this location for approximately 60 nights in 2023 for business. The good: Clean hotel rooms, helpful staff. Lots of resources available for tourist sites and things to do. Not so good: The hotel location is awful. There were many vehicle break-ins and lots of theft in the parking lot. Lots of vehicles had items stolen. There is a fair amount of loitering and many characters walk through the parking lot during the night. The hotel does not have security, cameras were not visible/effective. Overall, a nice place to stay but be careful with your belongings. I hope that the hotel is able to implement some security measures to deal with the break-ins.
Fantastic experience: This is the usual haunt when I head to the Sault. Had to ask for matches for the fire the first night, and had to ask for wood the second. Pool is a perfect temperature. Outdoor hottub is why we go. Sauna is great, but could be hotter Front desk staff were awesome, friendly and helpful. Restaurant and bar were fairly average, though not bad selection of whiskey and scotch. The hotel could be so much better if they did a bit of renovations. No usb ports in the room, TV is less than basic cable. The carpets are pulling up in hallways. Hot water took 5 minutes to appear in the shower, and the tub took FOREVER to fill with hot water as there is almost no pressure.
Fantastic experience: First time visiting the Sault, on a quick in and out trip using the best western for our overnight stay as we’re point collectors as well as dog owners so we needed a pet friendly hotel! We chose the Water Tower Inn which is a premier collection because of its proximity to local attractions. When we checked in, we met Nicole at front desk reception and right from the get go she had a very welcoming presence. We found out quick enough that not only is she personable but she definitely chose the right profession. Hospitality is her thing and i’ll tell you why! We had a bit of an issue with the size of the room/beds which we were willing to overlook because we were tired from a long drive in so we had contacted front desk just to see if there was something that could be done for us this late in the day. Within minutes, Nicole was on the scene, having a conversation, asking all the right questions and certainly working on rectifying the situation. In less than 20 minutes we were relocated and readjusted and had a wonderful stay!! Although it was an “in and out” trip we were super thrilled with the amenities which includes a lavish pool and beautiful hot springs, and if business brings us this way again, the water tower inn will certainly be our go to! What a difference it makes when you’re handled by the right people. So good for you Nicole, because you would be the main reason we would return!!!
Fantastic experience: The pools (and specifically the outdoor whirlpool) are a great touch! Could see the bridge to the states from our room. Breakfast was good
Fantastic experience: Great stay! Reception staff (Cindy and Kayce) were incredibly welcoming and helpful. Stayed in the trailhead room and beds were very comfortable. But we came for the amenities, pool/hot tubs/sauna and it did not disappoint :) Would have expected a breakfast for the price however..
Fantastic experience: Maybe I'm just poor but this is easily a 5 star hotel in my book. Great, clean rooms, great pool, great gym, great atmosphere, only bad thing is the location on this busy intersection full of jackass drivers that try running over pedestrians. Staff are super nice and the cleaning staff especially go the extra mile. If I'm ever in the soo again I'll be sure to stay here.
Fantastic experience: Room was hotel clean. Service was very friendly and everyone was helpful. Location was convenient to restaurants, close enough to everything.
Positive experience: Booked a suite with 3 Queen beds. The room was huge but there was only 1 tiny cupboard for the whole room. The tiny kitchen section was right next to the kitchen & there was no couch. It was all very clean though with lovely comfy beds & plenty of towels & soaps/shampoos. The staff were all lovely too We were misinformed about inclusive breakfast but really that was the only downfall. Would I go again YES
Fantastic experience: My family and I stayed here during the thanksgiving of 2023 while take Agawa Canyon Tours. The hotel staff are the most friendliest and polite. Room is very clean and comfortable. Pool and hot tub is a fantastic way to relax after a long commute. The breakfast at Casey’s is amazing. Lovely ladies serving. Starbucks’s coffee YES. The hotel is less than 10 minutes drive from the Train ride. I would definitely recommend for family stay here. Just stay here and don’t take chances other places. Thank you Water Tower Inn.
Positive experience: Rooms need updating price is a little steep for what you get, great staff though Casey's in the lobby has great food. This area needs more parking if you need to park at prime bar time hour you are gonna have a hard time finding a spot
Fantastic experience: We booked a double queen room for the weekend. The room was spotless, the beds were very comfortable (not hard like others) and the bedding was clean and smelled fresh. Not a bug in sight The indoor ( nice and deep!) jet pool was wonderful, as well as the outdoor whirlpool. The indoor pool was clean and didn't burn your eyes with too much chlorine and the towel service was fast. The restaurant within the Inn was staffed by friendly servers and the breakfast sausage was delicious. And the FREE parking was a bonus! Will definitely stay there again next fall. Anita.
Negative experience: Everything was good except for the banging coming from the room above us from 530 am - 830 am… we really needed our sleep as we’re driving for 9 hours today and have been on the road since Vancouver. You can hear people talking threw the walls as if their right beside you. I even heard our neighbour taking a pee like they were in our bathroom… kind of disturbing when your trying to sleep.
Hi Jacob, I'm sorry that your rest was disturbed by neighbouring guests. We certianly understand the importance of a good nights sleep. We hope that you will consider staying with us again to provide the superior guest experience we are known for. Have a great day.
Negative experience: Stayed here for a business trip and the hotel was incredibly packed with older guests attending a train excursion. We are three young Indigenous professionals, and there was huge discrepancies in the customer service we received from the ladies at front desk in comparison to how they treated the old white guests. Staff were very rude and unhelpful to us, they were not welcoming and would ignore us while being kind and friendly to the other guests. The only staff that was kind to us was Betty in the restaurant. We are very disappointed in our stay.
Good Day Carrington, I'm sorry that this was you experience during your stay. I have tried reaching out to you to discuss your concerns and better understand what happened so that we can address with our team. I wasn't able to reach you so if you could contact me directly I would appreciate it. Thank you, Beverley
Negative experience: We had a high school reunion at the hotel in August 2023. We had rented the hall and it ver 13 rooms and had over 200 people at our event. Someone had purchased the organizers gifts as a thank you. The gifts were left in the hall and when we went to retrieve them the one gift was gone. There were only employees left in the hall at this time and we were informed by management that an employee was seen on video taking the gift. Even after video evidence the manager at the Water Tower kept saying they will make things right for us as a way of apologizing for their employee stealing from us. After 6 weeks of the Water Tower saying we are taking this seriously we still have not been contacted. They say they will call us at a certain time and weeks go by before we can get a hold of anyone. In addition, the front desk worker was extremely rude to our party when we inquired about the missing gifts. Just a total black of professionalism on their part and I would never recommend this hotel to stay at or I wound especially be very wary of booking an event there when you can’t trust their staff and the management seems to think it’s ok to have employees take items that belong to guests. They claim they are taking this seriously but after 6 weeks of nothing there words mean nothing when they have taken no steps to rectify the situation.
Negative experience: We had reservations, upon check in I was refused. Told room was not dog friendly. This is how they treated a person with disabilities with a service dog. I was out the 300$ as Nicole the manager didn’t have time to deal with me (her words). I’ve traveled all over North America and have never been treated so poorly. I was in town for a funeral.
Good Day Marlene, I'm apologize that you felt you were treated poorly. Our team tried to accommodate the 3rd party booking you had but unfortunatly we didn't have any our pet friendly rooms available nor was my team aware at any time that you were travelling with a service animal. We approved a full refund to the 3rd party agency that you reserved through and Nicole sent an email to them confirming the refund so that you would not be out the $300. If you did not receive that refund from them, please reach out to myself so that I can assist with ensuring they refund you. I am sorry that we were unable to accommodate you for this stay. Beverley
Fantastic experience: The service is great. Fast check in, Hot tub is actually Hot, cleaning done well, replacing even your used soap and fresh towels every day. The complimentary breakfasts are yummy and I had the option of dine in or a quick breakfast sandwich I could take with me. There is a cute Starbucks right there in the hotel so I can order delicious drinks before starting my work day. 100% Coming here again.
Fantastic experience: This Inn is listed as a 3-star, but I would say it's 4.5 stars. The place was fantastic. The employees were very friendly and accommodating. Our room was very clean and the Inn in general was very clean.
Positive experience: clean room. It was nice because it didn't smell. The suite had a king size and double size bed. Just at check-in. I was surprised to have to pay a deposit of $600. I think it's too much.
Fantastic experience: Great expierence all around! Staff are friendly and helpful, the variety of rooms is really cool and prices arent bad for what you get. Went to the outdoor hot tub and its beautifully decorated with plants and well maintained. Location is super central, near many shopping/groecery options and many fast food/coffee right across the street! Look forward to my next stay!
Hi Taylor, Thank you so much for taking the time to provide your positive feedback from your stay. It sounds like you have a great time enjoying the many amenities that our Inn offers. We look forward to hosting you again on your next stay.
Negative experience: Don't stay here if you're planning to eat at the restaurant/pub. We sat for two hours without being offered so much as a glass of water and wound up eating at the McDonald's across the street. There are plenty of hotels in SSM. This one used to be good but has recently changed hands and is not the same place it used to be.
Good day Leslie, I would love to follow up with you to better understand your stay with us so that I can pass that on to our entire management team. We strive to exceed our guests expectations and are sorry that we didn't do that for you.
Positive experience: Nice hotel, though it is showing its age. Staff is nice but parking is tight. Location is good and the attached restaurant and pub have good food. It also has a pool and hot tub which is great for families.
Thank you Murray for your feedback, we maintain our facilities with great care but I can assure you that we have some exciting changes coming on the horizion. We look forward to hosting you again when in Sault Ste. Marie.
Positive experience: The hotel is in a great location the rooms needs a bit updating. So the front desk staff during the late night into morning shift needs proper customer service training after the road being closed on highway 17 on August 7, 2023 during a serious accident there were hundreds of vehicle in a line waiting to get through the road was closed off around 1 30pm and didn't reopen till 8:50pm that Night I am traveling with a 10months old and we were driving from Dryden to Sault Ste.Marie and that was and 11 hour drive. After the highway open up after being in the line for over 2 hours we still decided to continue our drive I got to the hotel around 1am the reception didn't had a welcoming attitude no smiles no good Night no thank nothing after having a long day that isn't what you need.
Good day Cynthia, I can only imagine what an exhausting day you had. You are correct, everyone deserves to receive a warm welcome when arriving at The Inn, I will be sure to follow up with our team member regarding your experience.
Negative experience: Small rooms, high prices and no breakfast provided. Only ice machine was on the second floor, a very long walk from our room. Have stayed in better Best Westerns.
Fantastic experience: Rooms and facility are a bit dated, but everything was very clean. I found the datedness quaint. The front desk staff as well as the staff at Casey's Grill were exceptional!
Positive experience: I’ll start off by saying we were really underwhelmed by check in, which was routine and didn’t include a warm welcome. The large suite we were in was very barebones and badly in need of updating. I had pretty low expectations after reading other reviews but knew my kids would love the pools. To begin our fridge didn’t work and we badly needed it for food we were taking to an Airbnb. Hunter helped us with a patient and generous smile, taking our food to their fridge downstairs. Fine but not a great option. They should’ve had backup mini fridges. The pool and hot tubs were awesome. But the pool towels were a joke—tiny, thin, and probably a decade old. The next morning our toilet clogged (and I have NEVER had that happen at a hotel before). It was so bad we all showered in the locker rooms by the pool. We told the front desk at checkout. And the only response was to offer $20 refund—off a room that was $350!! And they knew about the fridge problem too! “For all your troubles, we’ll refund you $20.” Fun for the kids but such a disappointing and frustrating way to start off our vacation. $320 should get you something better than this. Just FYI, for those not familiar with the area: the Soo Locks are back in Michigan. So you’ll need to cross the border to see them.
Negative experience: I stayed at this hotel once before, during Covid, January 2021. No problems, was very quiet and great to find a pet friendly hotel. The bathroom was very tight but room was clean. My recent stay in June 2023, was not the same. Room had a terribly strong cleaning smell to it but wasn't very clean. There was still dirt on the floor. It was incredibly loud. It was as if the people in the room next to us were in our room. We could clearly hear their conversation and they weren't speaking loud. Zero insulation between rooms. Our room was next to the hot tub, which was also very loud. We were in a pet room so I can't speak for regular rooms but I wouldn't return here. Rooms are dated and small. The bathroom is tiny.
Positive experience: This is an older hotel and that is reflected in the rooms. They were clean but dated. The sink had some slight cracks but everything was serviceable. We were just driving through town so it suited our needs.
Fantastic experience: It was a very good stay, comfortable rooms, very clean. Breakfast was a little pricey. Unfortunately, our complaint was they did call us for our wake up call and put us behind on our travels. But, everything else was good
Positive experience: Main higher end BW en route through Trans Canada Highway. Very nice rooms with just the little additions that add benefit. Great pool area for kids with double hot tubs - indoor and outdoor.
Fantastic experience: Hotel rooms start to all look the same after 30 days on the road! The staff @ the Water Tower Inn is what sets this one apart! Every single person we interacted with was wonderful and accommodating, but especially Car & Alexis! My husband loved the sauna & hot tub.
Fantastic experience: No problems at all. Room was clean and well stocked, reception staff were kind and the restaurant was pretty nice as well. Location allows you to walk to many things nearby.
Fantastic experience: Stayed with the BW Water Tower Inn, for over a week and throughly enjoyed their hospitality and accommodations. They're approaching 50 years of operations and deeply rooted within the community. I was assured by staff there are more great things to come.
Fantastic experience: Had a last minute trip with family. Our planning required a little extra accommodation for one of our kids - the staff was all very helpful. From Car helping us get the right accommodations to the kitchen team ensuring the food was safe of allergens - everyone was great!
Fantastic experience: We love the pool at this hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable. I look forward to my next stay.
Fantastic experience: This is a excellent place to stay, everything was very clean and rooms were spacious. Not being from Canada, the staff was very informative on the local things to do and were very friendly. Definitely coming back
Fantastic experience: The family and I we checking the local college. We stay here for two nights. They had a great pool out door discrete hot tub sauna. Everything you to just chill. A big thanks to the staff.
Positive experience: If you’re Looking for a place to stay pet friendly, this is a great choice. Rooms came with dog food and water bowl available which was considerate. A pool two hot tubs and a sauna is pretty nice addition. No complementary breakfast and tv is where it lost points. Basic cable with no movie options and paid breakfast, idk the last time I stayed somewhere with paid breakfast. All said and done, comfortable relaxing pet friendly stay with no concrete complaints! 4 stars!
Fantastic experience: We love staying here as a family because the pool and hot tubs are phenomenal!!! But we found out during our last visit to the soo that they also have pet friendly rooms!!! 10/10 would recommend! The floors are hardwood and they even give you a place for your dog to eat and drink!!
Positive experience: Great hotel. The outdoor hot tub was a blessing after 10 hours at the local ski hill. Live entertainment was cool. Casey's restaurant was good.
Fantastic experience: Thoughtful staff had laid out a dog feeding mat, water bowl, food bowl with treats, and extra doggie bags. Really surprised us and left a good impression. Room was very welcoming and comfortable.
Thank you for your 5 star review! Looking forward to seeing you again.
Positive experience: Reason why I gave it a 3 outta 5 is when I check in, the girl that was working there in the evening wasn’t friendly. My kids was saying hi and all she did was gave them a smirk. After I told her I was paying everything in cash including my deposit her attitude change toward me and my family. Room was nice and bed was comfy but there was no garbage bag in the garbage bin. Love the food it was amazing and the girl who was working was super friendly. Checking out was amazing cause the morning crew was super friendly.
Fantastic experience: Staff is always friendly check in quick and easy. 24-hour workout room beautiful outdoor hot tub. Exxon Express breakfast gets you on your way with ittle hassle.
Positive experience: It's ok, easy to get lost. Rooms were smaller then the other hotels but this hotel has a company rate for us. Bathroom is small compared to others but they do have a pool/hottub/gym/sauna. The gym has some decent equipment and weights. This is the only hotel I've been to without a bible, so make sure to.bring.your own.
Fantastic experience: Like many others, we stayed specifically for the outdoor hottub and indoor pools. (but they have so much more to offer) like in hotel restaurant (see my review of that!) weight room and sauna. The room was very clean, staff was very polite, and the location was perfect.
Positive experience: Check in staff was pleasant but due to only one working it was painfully slow. I waited in a line of about 8 people for close to 1/2 hr just to check in after reserving online. Had to tell an intoxicated , rude patron demanding to see the manager ( for what I couldn’t understand) to shut up and stop trying to interrupt or bud into the line. This should’ve been staffs/managers (who never appeared) job. Room was dated and smelled of cigarette smoke but was comfortable. Ordered dinner from Casey’s downstairs and was told they would call in about 15 mins to come pick up. 35 mins later they called I went down to pick up two dinners , 2 beers and 2 shots of Baileys only to find no logical way to carry the booze. Gave me a take out drink tray which immediately didn’t hold the weight of beer bottles causing one to fall out loosening cap causing it to fizz everywhere. No offer to replace beer. $75 excluding tip and both butternut squash ravioli was cold to the point of layer of crust covering it. Wife and I ate less than 1/2 of each. Only reason giving 3 stars is staff were pleasant while clearing understaffed.
