Trico Centre For Family Wellness in Calgary is renowned for its clean facilities and a welcoming atmosphere, making it an excellent choice for families and individuals alike. Visitors often highlight the friendly and helpful staff, creating a sense of community that enhances the overall experience. The centre offers a wide variety of fitness classes, excellent gym equipment, and multiple recreational facilities, including a pool, hot tub, and ice rinks.
Many users appreciate the affordable membership options, noting the fantastic value for money with numerous included classes. The 40-Day Challenge and other events encourage social interactions among members, further enriching the community feel.

Trico Centre For Family Wellness: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Gym is clean and staff are helpful.
Thanks for the feedback Allan!
Fantastic experience: In 2021, I did a few drop in fitness sessions but it wasn’t long before I knew I had to join as a member. The friendly staff set the tone for the atmosphere at Trico and this immediately made me feel welcomed into the community. I soon discovered that it wasn’t only staff who were friendly, but the helpful gym-goers were too. I had a warm sense of camaraderie when they introduced themselves and invited me to join them for coffee in the Senior’s Room upstairs after Gentle Fitness class. There is a real sense of community and camaraderie. When I joined Trico, I was a 270 pound over weight woman, terribly unfit, with no core strength and poor balance. I recall being out of breath going up a few steps and not being able to stand long due to lower back pain caused by arthritis but thankfully core strength has remedied the issue. Thanks to Trico, today I am over 100 pounds lighter, balance is much improved, core strength is obviously better, no shortness of breath and I no longer take blood pressure medication. There is so much I love about Trico; the variety of fitness classes, the instructors, the gym area with state of the art equipment, socializing and making new friends, the contests that give the incentive to try out new classes and gym equipment with the bonus of winning prizes. What is there not to like? Joining Trico is the best thing I have ever joined. If I had not, I probably would still be 270 pounds and terribly unfit because working out has given me the desire to try to eat healthier too. Due to my joining Trico, a family member and a friend decided to join also. I have often said I don’t think I could ever quit Trico and I have no desire to do so.

Fantastic experience: Great place to help me live a better life...........
Fantastic experience: There are so many reasons I love my gym membership at Trico. A large variety of classes 7 days a week, excellent facilities and equipment, knowledgeable instructors, cheerful front desk staff, lively atmosphere, great value, easy online class booking ... ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Fantastic experience: Trico Centre is an amazing value and a wonderful supportive space for staying active and keeping fit. I love the gym, the staff, the pool, the rinks, the many free with membership fitness classes at a very reasonable (best comparable) monthly membership price! Thank you!
Positive experience: We really do enjoy the gym . However, the lighting is brutal. Working out in the evening it’s difficult to even see the weight amounts to change on the machines, dumbbells or plates. Definitely need to brighten it up.
Negative experience: The most annoying life guards ,My 1st time getting to the gym took shower and asked if my hair was wet Couldn't believe it and then came back again on hot tub talked About infection lectures generally wasn't sure what I was facing, discrimination,or not sure so will never want to be back at this place period and apparently many already complaint about the guards and it seems they still on the loose & getting green light to treat ppl like this after paying almost 20 $drop in fee totally non sense place !!
Negative experience: The lifeguards are a bunch of kids on a power trip. We tried to take our family and babies swimming after SLC was closed for maintenance. “Go wet your hair in the shower before you get in” (I said I didn’t want to get my hair wet - basically told I have to). “Go put your baby push car in the locker room”. Then they completely ignored my daughter trying to ask for a floaty toy and when they finally acknowledged her they said no. We tried to take a picture of the baby in the pool (no one else was in the shot) and they said we can’t. We will not be returning.
Negative experience: My child had a terrible Customer service experience at Trico. They didn’t refund 157CAD for not providing swimming classes. Previously, we participated in swimming classes through the City of Calgary and Repsol, and we never had a situation like right now when the issue happened. We always received refunds or had our classes rescheduled to the next available session. However, at Trico, we didn't receive email reminders like we usually do from other organizations—no reminder one week before the class or the day before. I contacted the Trico Customer Service on the day of class and asked for support. However, I got no answer and no refund. Furthermore, Trico refused to reschedule our class, even though there were plenty of openings. My family, children, and friends will never return to Trico because of this negative experience. I would advise against registering for Trico classes as the organization does not support families in need.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We apologize for the experience you and your child had with us and truly understand how frustrating it can be when things don’t go as expected. We’d like to clarify that the Bronze level courses, which are a key part of our leadership program, require 100% attendance to meet all the necessary requirements. We do make every effort to contact participants in advance, and while we don’t send email reminders for the 4 day course our team reaches out by phone to ensure participants are prepared. If phone numbers on the registration account are out-of-date we hope that people have taken note of their session dates when registering for the program. We understand this situation has caused disappointment, and we appreciate your feedback as it helps us improve. We’ll take your concerns into consideration and continue to work on ways to provide the best possible experience for all families.
Negative experience: Swimming lesson review: I've never been impressed with them, but we continue to bring our children here since it's close to home and give them experience in the water. Your child will not get repetition of any exercise they ask them to perform which makes it extremely difficult for a child to practice and get better at skills. They do 1 skill and move on to the next for the entire lesson with no repetition. If you are comfortable with them having an experience in the water then sign them up but if your child struggles with swimming don't expect these lessons to help your child get better.
Thank you for your feedback. Since our lessons are in a group setting, we focus on sharing time to ensure everyone gets a chance to practice. Our instructors follow the Lifesaving Society's Swim for Life curriculum, which covers all the essential skills for each level. The goal is to practice each skill at least three times during the session. If you're looking for more one-on-one time, we also offer private lessons where there is more opportunity to practice. Feel free to reach out to our Aquatics department with any questions: [email protected]
Negative experience: This place is mediocre at best the trico centre was just old but the worst part about this place is that it is the staff are so bad at their job and are so rude especially the life guards but the booster juice in there is good plus they took out the water slide the only thing good about that pool !!!
Fantastic experience: Had a great time, kids loved their time in the pool
Thanks for the review and for stopping by!
Fantastic experience: Trico centre is all for wellness: pool, steam room, hot tub, gym, and fitness / wellness classes Staff and members are friendly.
Thank you for the very kind words, Charles!
Positive experience: Needs some updates.
We are constantly evaluating our programming and services for our members and visitors; if you have any suggestions, please let us know.
Negative experience: Since getting rid of the slide, the pool hasn't really been the same. The flooring on the bottom of the pool is also becoming rough and jagged, causing little cuts on my foot. The hot tub is also extremely chlorinated. The fumes alone are enough to make you feel sick being in there after only 10 minutes.
We are disappointed that you feel that way. Unfortunately, the waterslide had to be removed as it reached the end of its lifecycle. Your other concerns have been forwarded to the Aquatics department.
Negative experience: Will be not be attending again. Felt very discriminated by lifeguards, constantly talking about us and glaring and rolling their eyes at us. They should apply for mall cop position. Don’t take your kids here. Very unfriendly.
Your concerns have been forwarded to the Aquatics department.
Negative experience: I am so disappointed with Trico. I registered my two children for summer swim lessons at the same time, one child has a disability which requires her to have an aide in the water for safety. I made it clear on registration that this was the case. We went to the first lesson and were told that there was absolutely NO way that myself or an aide was allowed in the water and I would have to withdraw my daughter. They pointed out they have an entirely segregated class that only runs through the fall and winter months called Swim Abilities. This is NOT inclusion, why should my child not be allowed to participate in lessons like every other child her age with her same age typical peers? I am very disappointed in Trico. I sincerely hope this exclusive approach is rectified!
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. We understand the importance of inclusion and ensuring that every child can participate safely and enjoyably in our programs. We appreciate that you have begun discussing this matter with our Aquatics Director. As he mentioned, he will follow up with you directly to address your concerns and explore how we can better accommodate your child's needs in future programs.
Fantastic experience: Above and beyond customer service, staff were helpful and no pushy sales. Pool was warm and fitness center has everything you need.
Thank you for your kind review, Ginny!
Positive experience: This facility has what we have been looking for and it has been great but on the business end they have not done what they have promised and we will be canceling are 6 monthly memberships. We have already talked to Sophie multiple times and was told nothing could be done so you are now losing 18 months of memberships. That's 6 people at 3 months contracts each minimum just to save 30$ on a child's membership which we asked to buy in the first place.Which has already been paid on individual visits due to staff misunderstandings trying to save us money. That ended up costing us more. Then we were told to buy a child's monthly pass for the remaining 2 weeks of the month or pay individually to whatever option came out cheaper.
Hi Darcy, it sounds like we've been able to meet some of your health and fitness needs, but we'd like to learn more about your concerns. Can you please contact us at [email protected]?
Positive experience: My son had a hockey game there and we decided to use the pool after. Nice aquatic centre, sadly missing the water slide but overall great experience. Not a 5-stars due to condescending behaviour from the lifeguard. We asked if we could use water tubes and he rolled his eyes saying if we were not members we couldn’t. Ridiculous if you ask me, we paid our day-pass and I don’t see why non-members couldn’t use them.
We appreciate your feedback and apologize for any misunderstanding regarding the availability of water tubes for non-members. We want to clarify that tubes can indeed be borrowed by members and rented by non-members at Guest Services. Providing excellent customer service is a priority for us, and we will address the confusion to ensure that all guests feel welcomed and respected. We hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Loved the 40 day challange so much that im doing my own challenge now .. Awesome gym feels like a little family.. very clean. Its also totally would recommend.
Hi Kellie, that is fantastic to hear! Thanks for participating in this year's 40-Day Fitness Challenge, and good luck with yours!
Positive experience: Its only 4 stars because the best part is gone! They took out the water slide which was so awesome!!
Thanks for dropping by and leaving the review! Sadly, the water slide had reached the end of its lifecycle, and we wanted to make sure that it was removed before anyone was hurt or the building was damaged.
Fantastic experience: Have been using Trico fitness Centre for 10 years. Very pleased with it. The fitness staff are great as they are visible, helpful and friendly. The 40 day challenge is just that and have learned new things from participating in it the last few years. Front desk staff also get a thumbs up.
Jane, thanks so much for the kind words, and we're very happy that you participated in the 40 Day Fitness Challenge this year. Thanks for the shout-out to our staff as well!
Fantastic experience: The Trico Centre has so much to offer: A well equipped gym, TRX stations, a walking track, a pool, hot tub, ice rinks. An extensive selection of classes is included with memberships. Staff and other members are very friendly. The facility is very clean. Most importantly people of every age and fitness level will feel welcome!
Thank you very much for the kind words, Karen! We are very proud of our wide-ranging and inclusive programs.
Fantastic experience: I love being a member of Trico. During the 40 day challenge was fun getting the opportunity to meet more people and try different classes and equipment. My husband and I have looked at a few Centres and Trico is not only affordable but it provides many classes that are included in the membership price and the instructors and personal trainers are the best we’ve seen. I feel so much stronger than when I started back!
Thanks for the kind words, Debby! We're very happy that you're feeling stronger, and that you used the Challenge as an opportunity to try several new things.
Positive experience: This place is truly the best. They offer kumon learning, the rink, the pool, the gym, the daycare/after school care, preschool, and a place for seniors to come and get together and play cards. Not to mention the Jugo Juice that has finally opened and the physio place. I go to the gym regularly at Trico and it has been the best place for me to workout in thus far, and I have gone to 3 other gyms before this one. Very clean and everyone is nice! 8/10
Hi Jordan, thanks for noticing and using the various amenities we have. Trico Centre is a full-use health and wellness facility, and all of our tenants, including Kumon, Panther Sports Medicine, and Jugo Juice, help us keep the community stronger and healthier.
Fantastic experience: Our son absolutely loved his time here. Definitely a highlight in his week.
Glad to hear it, Glen! We hope that you both keep coming back!
Fantastic experience: My daughter started out in First Steps when she was 2.5 and the program and teachers were phenomenal. She was waitlisted for it in 2024 but as she was older we her into the Kids Klub and the teachers are just as amazing. Everyone is so kind, patient, attentive and the quality of the program is great. I highly recommend the preschool programs, they are the highlight of my daughter’s week. My only complaint is that they aren’t daily .
Thanks for the great review, Kaytlan. We're very proud of all of our children's programs, and we encouraged that your daughter has enjoyed her time with us - and hopefully she will be with us for many years to come!
Fantastic experience: Kids Klub is a lovely program that my child just loves. Sweet teachers and fun crafts.
Hi Melanie, thank you for the five-star review. We're very happy to hear that you and your child enjoy the Kids Klub program so much.
Fantastic experience: Good facilities with an easy to navigate website when registering for swimming lessons. Parking can be difficult on weekends so arrive early. Prices for the lessons are a good deal when you break it down in a per lesson cost. Will continue to come here. I saw a lot of reviews about concerns regarding the change rooms and genders. There’s signs posted so don’t get mad at Trio for parents who can’t read. Also if they are single parents it could be difficult to follow 100%. People need to lighten up and go about their business. It’s 2024.
Thank you for the five-star review, Stuart! We're glad we have your support!
Fantastic experience: Awesome friendly instructors! Always have great experiences.
Thanks for the kind words, Jennifer! We're very happy to hear that you're participating in so many activities with us!
Fantastic experience: Our 5 year-old loved the Kangaroos & Crocodiles program. The instructors all have tremendous passion for what they do and it shows up in the kids smiles. Highly recommended.
Thanks for the kind words, Derek! We agree, our Child and Youth staff are very committed and do great work, and we're happy that your child is enjoying their time with us.
Fantastic experience: Great place to work out love the 40 day challenge and also I great place to work
Thanks for the kind words, and we appreciate you too!
Negative experience: The staff doesn’t know about their own policy and charged me one extra month when I am not able to use the facility in no way. They don’t want to accept their mistake. So frustrated as I have the feeling that they provide the wrong information to just get more money.
Thank you for this feedback, but know that we would NEVER deceive ANYONE like that. Google reviews are a valuable tool for us to understand our patrons' feedback and drive innovation. We apologize for the misunderstanding with your account. Our Guest Services Director was able to connect with you to outline three options to address your personal request. Additionally, we have refunded March's payment as requested. We understand that all patrons should be treated fairly, and we follow all policies consistently. We believe that our policies are fair and equitable. Trico Centre’s membership policy is clearly outlined in our guide, online, and in the membership contract. We require three full monthly payments before a cancellation can be processed. We understand you have your membership paused for an extended duration at this time and we look forward to welcoming you and your family back this summer.
Fantastic experience: I've been going to Trico Centre for many years and have always found it to be the cleanest, safest and friendliest place to take my kids when they were young and it still is now that I'm a senior and using the gym and going to yoga classes. I highly recommend this place!
Hi LJ, thank you very much for the review! We're very happy that you've been with us this long, and that you're enjoying multiple programs here at Trico Centre.
Fantastic experience: The 40 challenge is a great kick start for getting in shape for summer. Fees are affordable to join Trico and then there are many classes included in membership fees. They have up to date equipment in the gym if you just want to do your own thing.
Glad to hear you're participating in this year's 40 Day Fitness Challenge! Please let us know at the end if you complete 20, 30, or all 40 days!
Positive experience: Always have a good experience here except recently. My daughter is in Swimmer 5/6 which she has to be in the deep part of the pool, i've noticed that after half of the lesson has passed, there will be another group of swimmers (not sure what level) the instructor of this group would bring them to the other end of the deep part of the pool to practice diving into the water or something which make the Swimmer 5/6 that my daughter is in couldn't swim to the other end and they are end up doing nothing in the water just talk about what is safe or not safe to do for more than 10 minutes!! And the kids in the other group are swimming all over the place which show that the instructor couldn't keep the kids under control and not to interrupt other group use of space.
Hello KC, thank you for your feedback and for bringing your recent experience to our attention. Please contact our Aquatics department at [email protected], as they would like to obtain more information about your experience.
Fantastic experience: A wonderful and family orientated organization.
Thanks for the kind words, Chris!
Fantastic experience: I am attending a couple of Parent and Tot programmes at Trico. Our instructor is Carolyn. She is absolutely fabulous. She is always welcoming, friendly, engaging, inclusive, always positive and very well prepared. She runs both programmes so well, makes them fun and enjoyable for all and there are always learning opportunities. A couple of times we’ve had substitute instructors who are equally as competent. I’d highly recommend programmes at Trico.
Heather, thank you very much for the fabulous review. We're very proud of our Parent and Tot programs, and we think all of our instructors are great, too!
Negative experience: Will be leaving as soon as the deer run gym finishes being built. 73 bucks a month for a gym with 4 squat racks and 3 bench presses… I had a senior man who made inappropriate comments to me at the pool (I was a minor), and about me to my boyfriend in the changing rooms. After filing a formal complaint I was told that they gave a warning to him but there was nothing else they could do. I’ve heard many other people say they have complained about the same man, and that the staff repeatedly said they would give him warnings, but that they couldn't ban him. Again im paying 73 bucks a month, and haven’t used the pool since because I do not feel safe . (What am I paying for exactly?) In the gym there were many issues with uncomfortable comments from senior men AND women, which the majority of girls I’ve spoken to have had the same issues. Nothing ever gets addressed, and if staff see it happening they will turn a blind eye. Perhaps some of these senior individuals are living in their “trico homes” so the staff owe it to them, but they very clearly prioritize them. Also, they’ve gone through so many gym receptionists in just the last year, each one quits or gets fired within like a month. Terrible vibes when you go everyday, become acquainted with them and then each one, like clockwork , gets replaced after two payrolls Sucks because it is a beautiful gym and centre, just bad management, will come back if it gets bought out or something.
Thanks for your feedback, Erika. Your input is valuable, and your concerns have been brought to our management team.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely loved Tot Time ! They have such a great set up in the gym for toddlers to run, jump, climb and play.
Thank you very much, Vanessa - we try our best! We're very happy that you and your little one had so much fun, and we hope to see you again.
Positive experience: The kids love the class. Great instructor. The only complaint is the lack of parking on Saturday mornings. The centre gets absolutely packed and we've had to park across the street at the library on occasion.
Hi Adam, thanks for the kind words about your child's class. Because we are a multi-purpose facility, with many spectator events throughout the week and especially on the weekends, our lot can get busy at times, and we appreciate your understanding.
Fantastic experience: Loved the space and accessibility provided for children who need a little extra support
Hi Tamara, thank you very much for the kind words! We want all of our children's programs, including Skill Builder, to be used to make our community better.
Negative experience: It's okay, but I'm leaving, mostly because of creepy dads taking their inappropriately aged daughters into the men's change room. They won't do anything about it, so I'm going to an adult gym.
We greatly appreciate your feedback, both positive and negative, as it helps us evolve and improve our services. Regarding situations like this, we want to assure you that we do not take such matters lightly. We have a clear policy in place at the entrance of the change room which states that children 6 years and older must use their gender appropriate change room or utilize the universal change rooms. We understand that it is not always possible to police the change rooms, which is why we urge our members to immediately notify Guest Services if they encounter any issues, so that we can promptly address and remedy the situation. Once again, please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience or discomfort caused by this incident. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we appreciate your cooperation in ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all our members. We would like to hear more on the incident and our Guest Services Director would like to hear from you. Please feel free to email Jacqueline at [email protected] to further discuss the matter.
Fantastic experience: Great weekend soccer program , good instructors, lots of great games/activities. My son always has a great time every week.
Thank you very much, Chris! We're very happy to hear that you're both enjoying our Skill Builder program.
Fantastic experience: Excellent program coaches and overall learning of the game
Thank you very much for your support!
Fantastic experience: I recently started attending some yoga classes at Trico and felt very welcomed by everyone! The building has so many different activities and even have Skill Building Programs for kids (which have great benefits)! I would highly recommend Trico to all age groups. The staff are also very supportive and amazing! Trico is a great way for the community to come together and also focus on your own goals!
Thank you very much for the kind words, Jaeden!
Fantastic experience: Excellent programs!! My child participated in the music and movement program and it was so much fun. She ran around and learned so much rhythm. She even got to play with musical instruments she usually wouldn't interact with! The instructor had so much variety in the interactive songs and always got down to the children's level when interacting with them! Would highly recommend any program at Trico!
Alisa, thank you very much for your support!
Negative experience: Thought we would try a dance class here. They overbook the facility to an unmanageable level. We show up early, drive in circles around the parking lot until the kids are late for their class. It's just incredibly bad management. I did not pay money to circle an overbooked parking lot and miss the class. On top of that, the forms tell me I have to stay on site for the whole class in case my kids have to pee? As though they don't do this themselves at school So you can't even drop off at the door and go, you must circle the full parking lot for the rest of your life, or until you miss the class you paid for. Never again. Update: the class is not for 3-4 year olds, it is for school-aged children.
Hello Charlotte, the parking lot can occasionally be busy, as it is not only used by our members and visitors, but by spectators as well. Parking is also available for all of our patrons just across the street. Regarding your concern about parental supervision for this dance class, this specific class is for younger pre-school children ages 3-4 years old, for whom there is a greater concern for their comfort as well as the learning experience of all of the children.
Fantastic experience: The Trico Centre is (but shouldn't be) - the 'best kept secret' when it comes to Calgary gyms. All the equipment I need - and SPACE (you're never bumping into the person beside you)....I love the track around the gym - so I can walk between my reps...instead of sitting on my phone. The staff has all been great...and with my kids taking swimming lessons - I swear - I am there about 5 days a week!. If you're looking for a new gym - don't sign up anywhere until you check out Trico first.
Thank you VERY much for the kind words!
Negative experience: Very bad service. Harassment from lifeguards for hair cover… whaaat? (In hot tub) And after all it was some break and everyone had to leave the pool for some time. So 2 addition payed and left the centre after 20 minutes… Never again…
Thanks for letting us know about your concerns, and we have relayed them to the Aquatics department. There are scheduled breaks between some classes to ensure cleanliness and safety.
Negative experience: A$$ They fr like ripped me off and stole my money. Also the equipment is like always either gross or broken! Like cmon Trico, u take so much from people and u can't even have working equipment!
Hi Paige, Can you please contact us at [email protected] to clarify your comments?
Negative experience: Gave me a double ear infection in the pool (big sad)
Hello - we're sorry to hear that. We regularly and thoroughly clean and sanitize our aquatics centre, and will continue to do so.
Negative experience: I have my daughter enrolled in a few classes. I do like the centre but we have had two swim classes canceled because of contamination. It is understandable that it happens but maybe if they didn’t have so many classes going at the same time there would be less of a chance. The change rooms are also pretty dirty, the pool area is freezing and the showers are so hot I can’t wash my daughter in them. One of the life guards were extremely rude to me saying I needed to wash head to foot which yes I know are the rules but if I can’t stand the heat of the showers I am definitely not going to put my child’s head under the water.
We would like to express our sincere apologies for the disruption to your child’s swimming lesson caused by the recent closures of our pool due to contamination. We encourage you to share your feedback as it could significantly contribute to improving everyone’s experience as they might not be fully aware of the situation. Your feedback is essential to us, and we encourage you to reach out to our aquatics team directly to further share your experience.
Fantastic experience: Trico is our favourite recreation centre. It’s not as busy as Seton ymca. The pool is always warm and the kids love the wave generator. Two rinks, plus the Jugo Juice is now reopened!
Hi Shilo, thank you for taking the time to let us know. We are so glad you enjoy Trico!
Negative experience: Did not have a great experience with preschool 3 swimming lessons. There were 2 contaminations and the showers were often extremely hot so my child couldn't properly clean off or warm up after lessons. Mentioned my concerns about the hot showers to several staff but they didn't seem to have much influence or take my concerns seriously. Bottom line: When your child goes from loving water to crying when it's time to go in the pool there is a problem. Won't be returning here to swim.
Thank you for your feedback, I have sent this to our management team for review.
Negative experience: They had availability for swimming lessons, which is hard to find. The instructor was friendly. But the facility is poorly maintained, dirty, and not a great environment. It seems pretty rundown. The changing room ducts look like they have never been cleaned since the facility has opened. The floors were dirty, as well as the equipment. Going to keep my spot on the waiting lists for swimming lessons at other facilities.
Thank you for your feedback, it helps us to continue to improve our facility.
Positive experience: Swim classes for kids are great. My issues is more with their registration system. You have to register your child for the next session before you even know if they pass. If they fail you have to cancel and you don’t get all of your money back. You lose some and they apply the rest as a credit. My issue isn’t even the credit it’s that you lose money. In this time where everything is expensive. It’s a flawed system and I would rather registration only be open once you at least know if they passed.
Thank you for your message, this has been sent to our management team for review.
Fantastic experience: I attend Robert's Big Chill Yoga on Wednesday nights and Yoga Meditation on Fridays and I have to admit it has changed my life! He is an amazing instructor and very inspirational. Highly recommend for sure.
Hi Terry, thank you for taking the time to review. I will pass this along to Robert and the fitness team.
Fantastic experience: I'm liking this Always clean facility!! great to see Jugojuice store is reopened~ i love their friendly service, yummy healthy smoothies :)
Thank you for your review, we hope to see you again soon.
Fantastic experience: My daughter attended swimming lessons at Trico this summer. She enjoyed it so much she asked me to put her in more as soon as her lessons were finished.
Thanks for your feedback Nicole, we are so glad she enjoyed them.
Negative experience: The new seniors Better Balance Program is in a tiny little claustrophobic room! 12 people (13 on Tuesday) get real!! Don’t you have any other cool temperature place you can dump your seniors?
Thank you for your feedback, we understand that you preferred our old space, however our studio is 1000 sq feet, well ventilated, has floor to ceiling mirrors and multiple balance bars which is why it was chosen for our Better Balance program.
Negative experience: 32$… for two adults…. For one hour of swimming. Ridiculous. We went for the last hour discount for 5$, only to be told the website hours were wrong. Turned around and went home. Enraging. Why can you only swim in certain blocks of the day. Have it open and keep it open especially at this price.
Negative experience: SECURITY SUCKS 3 weeks ago our locket got broken into they took 200 cash and my car keys luckily they did not take our car we asked for security cameras and get this there broken then we came back thinking it was just unlucky but my son witnessed someone else getting there stuff stolen and they took the mans car and they don't have cameras in the parking lot we are never going back there again
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and frustration this security issue has caused you. These concerns are not isolated to Trico Centre, and the recreation industry is actively working together with police on how to best protect our users from having such experiences. Our dedicated team is already investigating the issues specific to Trico Centre, and we are actively working to implement necessary changes to bolster our security measures. We want to assure you that we are fully committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for our users.
Fantastic experience: good
Thank you!
Fantastic experience: I am writing this review in regards to the kids summer camps. My daughters LOVED their time at these camps! The staff were all so friendly and kind to the kids. The camps are incredibly well run, specifically the "connect" camp, and the "creators" camp. Each camp enjoyed a field trip, and also a day to swim at the pool. We are now big fans of Trico centre! Thanks for a great start to our summer! :-)
Hi Elizabeth, Thanks so much for sharing your experience.
Fantastic experience: The worker at the front naked Nakayla is very sweet and she is always helpful about my inquiries. I have a great experience everytime I come here! Keep up the great work!
Hi Ava, Thank you for letting us know!
Negative experience: This place has the most ridiculous rule for figure skating session. They require me (a parent) to be physically on the ice next to my 9yo while she practice figure skates. How can I be physically next to her at all times while she practice strokes or spin. I can’t stand off ice and watch her but needs to be PHYSICALLY standing next to her at all time on ice. what a joke.
Hi Stephanie, I apologize for your experience, our current rules for figure skating are as follows: Figure skaters can enjoy an additional ice time to practice skills, jumps, and spins. This is not an ice time for beginner skaters. Skaters must be at least 9 years old and any skater under 14 years must have adult supervision in the arena at all times. Did you receive this information from one of our team members? We would like to look into this further. Can you please email us with more details to [email protected]
Fantastic experience: Great place has everything you need.
Thanks for the review Robert, we look forward to seeing you again soon.
Negative experience: People shaving in the steam room, or bringing in young girls into the men's changing even though there's a universal room available, management does nothing. Last week tried to borrow a basketball to use a completely empty gymnasium, denied because it was privately booked. Stated I would be glad to move the moment anyone arrives, NOPE. ok fine, today it's scheduled for open gym until 1030, I get a basketball only to get rushed out at 1015 so people can set up early! Like C'mon, we following rules or not. This place is horrible and I will never return.
Thank you for your feedback, I have passed this on to our management for review.
Negative experience: Twice now we have gone for “open swim” and been told the pool was at capacity. Both times we went up to see how busy it was and the first time we counted 16 people in the pool. The second time we counted 21. If this is a staffing issue, then members should be aware. We cancelled our membership and will be getting a YMCA membership instead. Another note, why section off the swim times in time blocks? If the pool is open, people should be able to come swim. Instead you’re told that they have to get out and wait 15 minutes in the dirty locker room to go to the next swim time. It’s such a weird way to do things. The inconvenience of going swimming at Trico is almost comical. I haven’t been to any other pool that does this with their swim time blocking.
Hi Kacey, thank you for your feedback, I will pass this along to our aquatics team. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Negative experience: The phone line when you hit zero goes silent making it impossible to talk to someone to ask about the pool . We arrived 5 minutes before open swim time to be told they were at capacity , not fun travelling here for this with my kids , fix the phone line so more people dont have disappointed kids
Thank you for our feedback, we just tested our phone lines, and they are working correctly but perhaps you caught our team at a very busy time. We apologize for the disappointment that this caused.
Negative experience: Swimming lessons were a total joke, did not teach anything, teacher just kept looking at the clock to see when class would end.
Hi Stefanie, thank you for your feedback, would you mind emailing us directly at [email protected] with the date/time of this swim class so we can look into this further?
Fantastic experience: Fantastic family facility for all ages
Thank you very much for the kind words!
Negative experience: They have very bad service, many rules, very little variety of schedules and difficulty to access them, many apps, key users and password be able to specify your service
Thank you for your feedback, we apologize for the poor experience you had. If you email us directly at [email protected] with the time and day of your visit, we can look into this further and we would be happy to assist you with our booking system.
Fantastic experience: I am so glad that I signed Ryker up for the Executive Functioning Skillbuilder Program at the Trico Centre. I admit that I was skeptical at first. My son was born prematurely and has a number of delays as a result. At age 6, we are also dealing with a new diagnosis of severe ADHD. When I stumbled upon the Skillbuilder programs, I was intrigued. However, I worried that Ryker wouldn’t get much out of them. First off, I wondered how they could make executive functioning skillbuilding fun and engaging. Moreover, with Ryker’s delays and him being at the young end of the 6-9 year old class, I worried that he would be unable to participate fully. Ryker has never been able to participate in formal programs or class settings. His first class blew me away! My husband and I sat outside the class waiting for Ryker to escape (which is his usual MO). It didn’t happen. Not only that, we peeked in and he was SITTING CALMLY, and actually PARTICIPATING in the activities! This may sound unimpressive to most parents, but for the parents of a kiddo with severe executive processing issues, this was astounding. I have literally never seen him so engaged in any formalized activity. The teacher is phenomenal. She truly understands neurodivergence and how to adapt programming to suit the neurodiverse brain. Each kid gets exactly what he or she needs. The activities they do have a clear connection to lifelong skills that can help kids navigate life with executive functioning differences. Executive functioning is a learned skill, just like any other. Some kiddos seem to be naturally programmed to learn those skills easily while others need to work harder. This program gives kids the tools to succeed. I took the opportunity to sit in on a class one time when Ryker was having a particularly dysregulated day and even I felt like I had learned new skills. I think the Skillbuilder programs are likely to pique the interest of parents with neurodiverse children, but really every parent of neurotypical children should sign their kids up too. We love to complain that the education system fails to teach many of the “soft skills” needed to be a high-achiever, but Trico is finally doing it! I am excited to sign Ryker up for more Skillbuilder programs in the future.
Thank you for this very kind review, we are excited about our new programs and glad that they are being received so well.
Fantastic experience: I absolutely love it here! It’s a cool concept that’s affordable and brings family together most evenings to do fun activities! Their yoga classes are a perfect pace for me as someone with injuries. Their pool is great and I love that they limit people, so it’s not super overcrowded. Like many other reviews have said, the life guards are pretty serious about the rules but I like it because they are serious about the safety of the people who are there and they are always polite while enforcing them. Actually all the staff has been super polite and friendly - they all deserve raises I’m super happy found this place! Thank you for the wonderful contribution to our community ^_^
Thank you for your kind review, we are glad you are enjoying our facility.
Fantastic experience: Amazing staff. we love supporting Trico as they are a non-profit community ran facility. Highly recommend.
Thank you very much for the kind words! Please make sure that you come out for our 40th anniversary events as well!
Negative experience: This place seriously went downhill. Out of all the indoor swim pools I’ve been to in calgary they easily have the most disgusting change rooms. They’re filthy. The floors are covered in mud and other things and there’s stuff all over the wall. Their new policy is you only get 90 minutes in the pool which is always cut short by staff. They say this is for cleaning but somehow the pool area also stays filthy. I don’t feel comfortable being in their facilities barefoot which is a problem because I have young kids. I wanted this place to be good because I live so close but it’s hard for me to commit to a membership when we only get facilities in 90 minute windows and those facilities which are closed for cleaning every 90 minutes are completely filthy. It doesn’t make sense. The last time I was there a kid has cut her foot open on something and was leaving blood all over the floor. The front desk was alerted and it took them over 20 minutes to come clean it up.
Hi Daniel, thank you for bringing your concerns to us. We have and will continue to work with our custodial staff to make sure that they are cleaning the change rooms on a regular basis. We encourage our patrons not to wear their outdoor shoes into the change rooms, especially when the outdoor terrain is sloppy; we have racks and trays for shoes to minimize tracking in that mud and snow. They also do their best to clean the pool, inside and out.
Negative experience: The last four times I have brought my autistic son for a swim: a) We were charged the fair-entry rate, and I got in for free as an aide, and I was reminded to bring the fair-entry card. b) We were charged full adult rate for both of us. c) I brought the fair entry card. My son was charged the fair entry rate, but I was charged full price because I did not bring the Access 2 card. d) We were told that the pool was being used for a private function. Apparently the schedule can be changed like this. The receptionist who told me this argued with me that this was not a closure. I'm not sure what you call it when the pool is not open at a time when it is usually open, but apparently it is not a closure.
Kevin, thank you for bringing this to our attention. All of your comments have been forwarded to the appropriate management personnel, and will be addressed at our monthly Guest Services meeting later this week as well. Regarding the pool, it - as well as any other area of the facility, like the gym and the arenas - can be rented out for group, corporate, or birthday functions. This is most common in the arenas, but it does occasionally happen for the pool as well. Perhaps this needs to be communicated better, in terms of when and what language should be used.
Negative experience: Very poor receptionist in answering how family swims operates. Condescending and walks away while talking lol. I'll take my membership elsewhere
Hi Dany, we're very sorry to hear about your recent experience at Guest Services, and this has been brought to the attention of our team coordinator.
Fantastic experience: I love taking my Nephews to Trico! They love the waves and the coordinator Kaylin was able to answer all my questions. Since it is right beside the mall it’s a great way to spend the day! Exercise, then food court, then naps all the way home.
Hi Tany - thanks for your great review! We're glad that we're able to make it a full day for you!
Negative experience: The change rooms and pool are extremely dirty. The walls and doors in the universal change room, look like they haven’t been cleaned in years. There is a dark ring around the pool where the water line is and there was a large insect crawling up the wall and another dead one, near the seating area by the pool. I forced my son to wear indoor shoes in the pool area because I can’t imagine what is on those filthy floors.
Hi Jennifer, we appreciate your concern. The custodial staff has been reminded to be more thorough. Also, we are repainting the universal change room by the end of the year. Regarding the dark ring - if you're referring to the pool itself, that discoloration does and has "leaked" into the soft-walk cushioned Myrtha pool liner over several years; and is impossible to scrub out due to the liner materials. Finally, we can understand why seeing an insect would be disconcerting. However, we are a large facility with multiple entry points (doors, windows, ventilation, etc), and the occasional insect will inevitably find its way in. We will continue to remove them on an ongoing basis.
Fantastic experience: Everyone at guest services is so friendly and always makes me feel welcomed. Great place to workout (:
Hi Kaylie, thanks for the great review! We appreciate your support and kind words, and we're glad that you enjoy the friendly Guest Services team.
Negative experience: Don’t do swimming lessons here of your child is a beginner. Swimmer 1 they teach nothing and it’s a poor program. We did this with our second child after doing the YMCA in Shawnessy for our first. YMCA was so remarkably better. They actually teach the kids. Trico was a sad excuse for swimmer 1. It was hard to watch. Waste of money.
HI Andrew, we regret that your experience didn't live up to your expectations. Trico Centre swim lessons align with the Lifesaving Society Swim for Life program, and the safety and comfort of your child is always our swimming instructors' priority. If you have any other questions about our swimming lessons, you can contact our Aquatics Department at 587-393-9486.
Negative experience: Probably the worst place in Calgary for pickleball. No online sign up so you have no idea how many players will show up. 2 courts to play on even though the other half of the gym is empty. Do yourself a favour and find another place to play. Will probably cancel my membership in the near future.
Hi Brian, we're sorry to hear about your recent pickleball experiences. Because it is a drop-in program, and not a registered class, participation will inevitably vary from week to week. As for the gymnasium usage, on some days, we split it in half; one side will be dedicated to all levels pickleball, while the other is for open gym, allowing members and drop-in patrons to play basketball, soccer, etc.
Negative experience: Overpriced and small. Lame!
Trico Centre for Family Wellness is a community-owned, not-for-profit facility. Our multi-sport facility includes a fitness centre, two NHL-sized ice surfaces, an aquatics centre with a hot tub and waterslide, a gymnasium, four fitness studios, and ten multi-purpose rooms. Our facility is also the home of several health and wellness-related businesses whose services enrich physical, emotional, and intellectual wellness. Is there a specific room or area that you feel is missing?
Negative experience: I have signed up my almost 2 year old son for swim lessons "Parent and tot". On our firt day we came to the pool and met with an instructor who was a yound boy. Everything was going well, my son loves the water so he was excited to be there. The instructor was showing what to do and we had to repeat after him. After each thing he showed he would go around to check how we were doing it. One time after repeating he came up to us and tried to take my son out of my hands to show what to do on him. My son got extremly scared that someone is taking him out of my hands and I was trying to tell him that it is okay and we will do it ourselves as my son was grabing me and started crying. After that everytime he came up my son would start crying and we ended up leaving early because he got too scared of the instructor. I messeged Kaylin (coordinator) explaining the situation and mentioned that we actually wouldn't want to continue the classes due to the experience. I wouldn't want my son to be scared of the pool or the water because of it, so we decided to go to different classes. Kaylin never even said sorry and insisted on us to continue classes and said we should come next day so instructor could say sorry to my not even yet 2 year old. I was shocked. The child got scared by the fault of the instructor, which I believe can happen, as it was a really young boy teaching the class. But when coordinator doesnt understand the childs psychology, being a coordinator for child classes, makes me very sad. Its not even about a refund, which would definately help us go to different classes, but the way it was handled. Very disappointing, would not reccomend.
Hello Maria, we certainly don't want to upset any child - or any Trico Centre patron. Thank you for understanding that a hands-on approach with the children in the pool, when we are trying to make sure that they understand and will be safe, is important and necessary at times. We never want to upset a child, under any circumstances, especially during their first visit to our facility. We will address this specific situation in detail internally, and follow up with you.
Fantastic experience: I have nothing but amazing things to say about the trico staff. I have never felt so comfortable and welcomed in place ever. Especially the lifeguards and their staff. My sisters got in trouble because they were running. And the life guards honestly handled that so good they were super polite but also made sure they understood why they shouldn't run because of their safety. Honestly me and my family really love this place 10/10
Thanks for using our facility and understanding our policies. Safety is very important to us, but we also want to make sure that everyone has a great time.
Fantastic experience: Great facility. Knowledgeable, friendly staff. Very reasonably priced also.
Fantastic experience: Excellent place to go and play/watch hockey.
Negative experience: Have been a member at trico since 2008, since the pandemic the cleanliness of the facility continues to decline. I’m the last 6 months My comments to the front desk have not been passed on in incident reports to facility managers. Only after speaking to facility managers did I learn of the process. The locker rooms have continued to decline into a very gross state, yet they are looking to increase membership next month.
We always appreciate the feedback about the customer experience, and we understand that our Facility Manager has gotten back to you directly about your concerns. As he mentioned to you, we will be doing more spot checks, increasing the frequency of our walk through cleanups, and a "deep clean" later this year. Our aquatics team and contract custodial company will be more diligent.
Fantastic experience: Trico leisure center is one of the best pools I have been in, the slide is very enjoyable, the wave pool actually goes pretty deep, the cleanliness is excellent, and the staff is very kind. The shower pressure is amazing, the change rooms are very clean and overall I would recommend.
Thanks for the kind words and great review! Hope to see you again soon!
Negative experience: Absolutely horrendous management. Extremely rude and condesnding. I never write reviews but the city MUST look into who is running Trico. Here with 2 young boys and was berated by a women who couldn't just be polite and let me know I made a mistake by pulling the hockey nets out onto the ice. (There was no staff around) same as yesterday, I helped out to pull the nets out. Unfortunately maybe she is having a bad day but this is no way how you should be dealing with the public.
You walked onto the ice before the Stick & Puck session in street shoes, while the Zamboni was ready to go onto the ice. It was not safe. There were several staff nearby, including the Guest Services team that you would have checked in with. We always want to ensure the safety of our customers.
Negative experience: Went to the pool today, first thing when checking in we were told that there were floaties for babies to use so they can sit in while in the pool. When we got into the pool the lifeguards said weren't able to use them. Then 30 minutes after checking in we were told that we had to get out of the pool (along with everyone else) due to them needing to clean the pool which wasn't told to us when we we checked in only 35 minutes earlier. Not only were we told to get out there were lifeguards that were telling us we had to go back out & pay to get back into the pool. After another parent expressed there disgust with this the lifeguards said that this was a older policy that wasn't being followed anymore. The day that they were going to make me & my family pay nearly $50 again after only being in the pool for 30 minutes is disgusting. There was a server lack or communication between the reception & lifeguard, The lifeguards didn't all know what policies were in place & which ones weren't, not allowing families to use all the pool supplies especially with babies who can't fit in & use life jackets. This is why we won't be going back to the Trico centre, & won't recommend it to anyone else.
Fantastic experience: Just got a membership here with my partner and we love it so far! The gym is great and is a really great set up for using equipment. The staff are also lovely and very accommodating with all the questions I have.
Thanks for the great review, Heather! We're very happy you're enjoying the experience so far!
Positive experience: Great value, $6.25 for drop in Stick and puck, currently the only place in Calgary that I've found offering Drop in stick and puck. My only complaint would be the amount of people allowed on for stick n' puck and the amount of pucks, as it was nearly impossible to get one and was crowded. Great afternoon otherwise though!!
Thanks for the kind review,, and we will try to get more pucks out there!
Positive experience: Good facility with a wide range of equipment that is maintained regularly. Membership is quite reasonable considering all that it offers, pool, steam room free classes like yoga. My personal trainer Valentine was fantastic in getting me started on whst she calls "my new life"...thanks Valentine!
Hi Glen, thanks for the kind words, and Valentine is one of our best!
Negative experience: As mentioned in numerous other posts the lifeguards are a bit much at this location. Our son who can swim without a life jacket in the deep end by himself was just failed in swimmer 2, with no mention prior that he was struggling with anything. He was in a class with 6 other kids and 1 instructor. We cancelled all of his future classes, along with our other 2 kids classes as well. I will never spend another dollar at this facility and will be investing my money into private swimming lessons where my child will actually receive instruction. The entirety of the last 45 minute class was spent in the wave pool learning absolutely nothing about swimming. Maybe instead of finishing classes early and wasting an entire session in the waves you should have been giving the kids the instructions that they deserve and paid for. Don’t waste your time and money going here, look elsewhere….
Hi Adam, Thank you for commenting, although we are disappointed to see that you don’t plan on coming back to Trico Centre. Your son’s lessons were taught by one of our best instructors, and he was given positive and corrective feedback on his progress card. However, our instructor wasn’t able to put him through to the next level as he did not meet the required “Must See’s” outlined by the Lifesaving Society’s Swim for Life program. We all want to make sure that each of our students advance through each level safely, properly, and with confidence. Lessons were also taught up to and including the final day, as the waves are only turned on for about the final ten minutes of the class with a couple of additional minutes to hand out complete or incomplete slips.
Negative experience: Lifeguards are annoying (as mentioned by many others) with petty rules that have nothing to do with safety, just a bunch of teenagers on a power trip. Also aquatics “manager”, another guy on a power trip. Lost money by registering for a class there that they would not allow us to use or switch. Pretty unimpressive facility also: dirty and outdated. Would not recommend.
It is very unfortunate that our facility and its lifeguards did not impress you. They will always err on the side of safety, and ensure that the rules are followed.
