JKConditioning is a private fitness community located in the centre of St. John’s, Newfoundland. We offer personal training for busy people who want to improve their overall health and fitness. Personalized training sessions take place in a group setting under the guidance of our credible and reputable trainers. This means that you get the results of a personal training program with the support and camaraderie of our close-knit fitness community. We design workouts to make you better, not to see how much you can sweat.

Most fitness professionals promise “6 pack abs in 6 weeks,” or a similar message. We don’t do before and afters because there is no “after.” There is only continuous improvement. Also, our group training creates a community. When you join JKC, you are joining something bigger than yourself.

Enjoy a different fitness experience. Pay for training on your terms with no long-term membership fees. Out of town? No worries. Only pay when you workout.

I heard really good things about it from my sister, and I could see the positive results she was getting.  I needed to do something.  I was overweight, depressed, and recovering from a back injury.  I had reached a point where simply getting up out of a chair was becoming difficult.  I knew that if I didn’t do something about it my senior years would be very burdensome to the people close to me.  I’m so glad I did!  After just a few weeks my day-to-day pain was drastically reduced, and my mobility increased. I had the confidence to try sea kayaking, and I now play ice hockey twice a week!

The key difference is the expertise.  The trainers know the gym equipment and the exercises, but they also have degrees in kinesiology, and can apply what they know to your workout.  As someone who was in poor physical condition starting out, I was worried about hurting myself.  Previously I tried an outdoor weekly bootcamp and injured my knee by pushing too hard.  The trainers at JKC constructed a program that started at the right level for me, evolving it as I grew stronger and more fit.  I feel well looked after.

I wanted to add strength training to my cardio, but have always felt gyms to be a bit intimidating, and was worried I would hurt myself without some supervision and help. JKC was highly recommended by several work colleagues. Thomas and Jon are both fantastic, making sure that everyone gets a highly personalized work out in a very supportive environment. The attention to detail and professionalism are second to none. The groups are very small, but very supportive and make the workouts even more fun. Since getting pregnant (36 weeks as I write this) I’m so happy that they continue to help me get stronger while always being safe.

I joined JKC because I wanted to better care for my physical health, but didn’t really know how, or where, to begin.  Seeking help from a trainer seemed like a wise choice, and I had heard great things about the staff at JKC. Anyone who knows me knows that I hate exercising.  So, I’ve only ever tried sticking with a gym routine twice in my life.  Each experience consisted of me wandering around, not knowing what to do, and settling for an elliptical machine or something else that seemed comfortable and non-threatening.  Each session was the same, and I felt like I was wasting my time.

Each session at JKC, however, is specifically crafted for me.  I don’t have to think about what to do, because I’m told what to do.  I don’t have to worry about how to do things properly, because I’m shown (sometimes multiple times!) how to accomplish each task.  I don’t have to be concerned about slipping into a comfortable routine, because Jon and Thomas won’t let that happen.

I am turning 67 next month and I started my journey with JKC in 2018. Seven years ago I experienced significant foot pain which had a negative impact on my day to day activities. I learned that issues in other parts of the body need to be addressed to achieve a positive result. My doctor (Dr. Jessica Wade) suggested, along with some other therapies, that I could  benefit from the conditioning JKC had to offer. I previously had not trained in any gym. I observed how many gyms operated and had a sense that JKC would be more my style: training in a small group setting, having such personal attention, and a program meeting my specific needs is fantastic! I love the atmosphere at the gym. Everyone is accepted and you feel supported and comfortable.

After my children were born, I was completely out of shape. I had been active before my first pregnancy in 2008. I saw a post on social media about a charity event that was hosted at the gym. It prompted me to check out the JKC website. I was immediately impressed by the professional content and decided to give it a try. The professionally crafted and uniquely tailored work outs, as well as the sense of accountability and commitment that they foster. I have not missed a workout since joining – contrary to other experiences I have had when purchasing gym memberships. The flexibility of booking and rescheduling workouts, made easy by an online app, also contributed to my success in meeting my fitness goals.

I enjoy every session, working out with Jon, Thomas and Craig, as well as the “JKC Community”. Anytime someone achieves a personal best, I enjoy the celebration and support everyone gives each other. For me, I fondly remember achieving personal bests on bench press, chin ups and the sled push, in particular.

Fantastic experience: Jon is awesome. He wants to make you better and achieve your goals - safely, correctly and reasonably. An excellent teacher, he pushes you to be better and to train correctly - it's not about the quick fix with Jon. It's about the search for excellence and doing more. I recommend him highly.

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend Jon. He is extremely knowledgeable and is easily able to tailor and modify a program specifically to you and your personal goals. He is excellent to work with, a great motivator and constantly challenging you to do more and improve on your previous best.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been going to Jon since August 2014. I’m not trying to be a better marathon runner or a better NHL hockey player (at least not yet). I suffer from a certain condition, a disinclination to activity or exertion despite having the ability to do so (yes…we all know the real word for that). Jon is a professional trainer who cares about and is committed to what he is doing, is enthusiastic, consistent and dedicated to his profession and not just doing a job. It really helps me be consistent and dedicated (and sometimes enthusiastic….just not this week after the 2 week XMAS break). I started toying with the idea of using a personal trainer in 2013 and saw Jon’s site and I should have contacted him then…..instead of buying that home gym, thingamabob, whatchamacallit…..which requires constant referral to a manual. Things work so much better for me when I have an appointment with someone telling me what to do, how to do it and offering motivation. My manual doesn’t do that and the thingamabob, whatchamacallit doesn’t care if I ever show up.

Fantastic experience: I recently visited Newfoundland for one month, and was looking for a good place to train while I was there. Jon and the team at JK conditioning really took the time to assess what I already knew, and set achievable goals for the time that I had with them. The gym was such a great place to push yourself. It had everything you needed, but more importantly it had a well organized, very knowledgeable, and really motivating group of trainers to push you at each workout. Not to mention a really nice group of other members who also motivated me to go that little bit further. I would highly recommend the gym to anyone who has a goal and wants to find a place to help them achieve it.

Fantastic experience: This is a long time coming, just a note after running the HnP full marathon, my first marathon! Thanks for the community, the help and the support not just for this season but the years previous that I’ve been sweating at JK. This year’s plans had me training harder than I ever knew I could and the gainz spoke for themselves. PBs and confident first times at every race this year! Coach told me that I put in a lot of hard work this year but, it was more than that, it was smart work. Thanks to you and Thomas for helping keep me relatively injury-free, strong and confident to take on this year’s challenges. I wouldn’t have been able to post the times that I have without the JK community on my team. Now onto next year’s challenges, with confidence.

Fantastic experience: My experience training with Jon has been fantastic! He is extremely knowledgeable and takes the time to evaluate and assess mobility issues, and worked with me to find variations on exercises that don't aggravate my injuries while simultaneously providing exercises and stretches to improve mobility. Anyone looking to get a workout plan that will meet YOUR individual goals and be tailored to your own body, JK Conditioning is the right place! They're also very responsive through email to answer any follow up questions or concerns. I can't say enough good things about JK Conditioning!

Fantastic experience: I've been training with Jon since 2013 and I am completely satisfied with every aspect of it. First and foremost, he is a genuinely nice guy. He is very clear in setting the plan once goals are identified and modifies things as needed. His approach is evidence-based and he is a stickler for good technique. NO gimmicks or promises, just a lot of fun and hard work. I have no hesitation with referring friends and family to Jon.

Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough great things about my experience with JKConditioning. I started training with Jon a year and a half ago post baby and got myself back into better shape and most notably stronger shape. Pregnant again, I have continued to work with him throughout my pregnancy and have felt great with the workouts. If you are looking for a trainer who will push your limits and get you results, then look no further, he is one of the best.
