Crunch Fitness - Ancaster: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Busy gym but great prices
Negative experience: Lots of room since the reopening, but almost a year later there is no sign of the tanning beds that are advertised on the website. The dumbbell area is absolute chaos with all of the weights jumbled together, making them difficult to find. Plates are everywhere but on the racks which are invariably empty. I think there are 3 mats in total and kettlebells are also very sparse. Lots of cardio equipment if you like treadmills or bikes, but one rowing machine has no working counter on it. Maybe putting some money into the equipment instead of the huge space would have been advisable.
Fantastic experience: BEST CRUNCH IN CANADA! The staff are friendly, approachable and incredibly helpful! I’d recommend this place to any seasoned gym veteran, a new-timer and every one else in between. Since they’ve expanded in size, they’ve filled every nook and cranny with more equipment and my muscles thank them for it. Special shoutout to Tony for fixing the equipment for all the beautiful people of Ancaster Crunch!
Fantastic experience: Great gym with a solid atmosphere and good equipment. I enjoy my workouts here every time. The morning staff are friendly and welcoming, Overall, a really good experience.
Negative experience: Broken system Rude customer service Overcharge even after cancellation If there is a zero star, that would be more reasonable
Fantastic experience: Member for a number of years...Excellent contract; all is walked through/stated, fabulous owner, great staff, very effective equipment and great ambiance...all that is required is effort and focus for personal success. First choice in gym over and over again!
Fantastic experience: This place is the absolute best, honestly it’s like a home there once you start going for over 3 months that’s all it will take especially if you get to know the Asian worker at the desk at the crunch in Ancaster, Marcus is his name, the best guy I love this gym and if anyone says otherwise they are wrong, and the owner is an amazing guy
Fantastic experience: generous staff. it was therapeutic going to the gym today. may god reward you all and thank you for welcoming me into the gym. stay blessed
Positive experience: Nothing special, its like every other gym. Won't recommend to someone that that hates crowds though, but sometimes you just gotta suck it up.
Positive experience: The staff is friendly and you can get a solid workout in here, but the facility itself is a total mess and everything is out of place. Most of the equipment is completely worn out, and it's extremely hot, and that's coming from someone who just spent a year in Egypt!
Fantastic experience: Best gym
Fantastic experience: I am thrilled to share my positive experience with Jaden at this gym, which has truly become a place I look forward to visiting each day. She is so supportive and knowledgeable with excellent customer service skills. I feel motivated and encouraged to start classes, work with trainers and confident with using the equipment properly -thanks Rita! Overall this gym is providing me and my daughter a rewarding experience. Happy to say that I am looking forward to reaching my fitness goals! Yay!
Negative experience: I had a really frustrating experience at this Crunch location, so I want to warn others to double-check your payments. Last year I paid the annual fee, and this year I planned to cancel due to personal reasons. But without any notice at all, they charged me the annual fee again. I went in the very next day to cancel and ask for a refund, but they told me I had to give a 30-day notice—something I had never heard before. I checked the agreement that was emailed to me, and there is no mention of a 30-day notice. When I brought this up, they said, “It’s not in the email agreement, but it’s in the small print of the paperwork you signed when you registered.” Honestly, who can read all that tiny print on the spot? Most people rely on the copy sent to their email so they can read it carefully later. They also never mentioned verbally that I needed to notify them 30 days in advance if I wanted to cancel. So now, even though I haven’t used the gym at all this year, I’m being told I still have to pay the fee. It honestly feels like a scam. So please be careful. Check your annual fee dates and make sure you cancel early if you plan to. I hope this helps someone avoid the same situation.
Fantastic experience: I worked out here once with my personal trainer. Gym was clean and well maintained. The staff were very nice. Definitely a gym to checkout. I normally workout at Upper Centennial only because it's a 1 min drive from my house. This is a nice gym and if I'm ever around the area. I will definitely train here again.
Fantastic experience: Ashley is The kindest most dedicated Pilates instructor. She is always aware and shares proper form and technique for a total body work out with weights. She warmly welcomes newcomers with her special smile. She has even purchased yoga mats, light hand weights, and knee pads that she generously shares with others. Her stretching class always makes me feel taller! We are so fortunate to have the very best hard working, conscientious and fun loving family at Crunch Ancaster!!
Positive experience: I was a past member and now decided to rejoin with a new marketing deal. I walked into the gym in Ancaster to check it out. It is much bigger and almost renovated. Starting to look good. I walked through the gym into change rooms and back out. No employee spoke to me or questioned me. Guess I will have to book online.
Positive experience: It's a nightmare when high school kids join
Negative experience: My experience is not good. Specifically in my timing, the crowd is more and as no of the equipment is less we need to wait for more time..
Fantastic experience: I would like to win the prize pack for the new AirPods
Positive experience: Nice employees, big space, the gym isn't super high-tech or flashy but still has a ton of machines to use and all the basic equipment, honestly this way everything is more simple.
Fantastic experience: Crunch has helped me become a better man staff are great Restrooms and Locker rooms are amazing Good classes to keep you active!
Positive experience: Caveat: the gym is small, it used to be a 5 star fitness, and currently is under renovations so there is no access to change rooms/showers. However that said it has what is required at a price that cannot be beaten. If you use the gym at all you will get your money back easy. Edit: I had to update this review because the place isn’t open in the morning this Sunday, more than 10 minutes after the open time. Minimum half dozen people waiting, and nobody has even entered the building. This may be a one off but being that this is the first occasion I’ve been here in the morning, this is frustrating.
Fantastic experience: Great gym with helpful staff
Fantastic experience: Really good gym. Staff is nice and the equipment is great.
Positive experience: Currently in the midst of an expansion. Staff is nice. Hard to judge till the expansion is complete
Negative experience: Some of the Staff are not friendly at all, it you try to be friendly with them or if you want to have a conversation with any of them . They show like they are really busy !
Positive experience: Love this gym, and excited for the renovations (it has been kind of run down since I joined a year ago). Mornings are great for the 25+ crowd, but expect a much younger crowd at night (nothing wrong with this, but I definitely prefer to work out with people my age and older ). Staff are always nice and friendly as well!
Positive experience: Good gym, is expanding so can't wait until the renovation is done.
Thank you Ahmad. Make sure to follow us on Instagram for updates regarding the expansion!
Fantastic experience: Great place to go get your workout in, staff are very friendly and kind, with upcoming improvements i would recommend to anyone in the area!
Negative experience: I had my bag in the gym, which was my mistake and I admitted it to the worker when confronted. However, the worker didn’t take time to understand what I was saying when I said “I will follow the rules” due to my accent. He then proceeded to raise his voice and say “you can follow this or leave you have 2 options” in a very rude manner.
Thank you for the feedback Eason. Once you were asked to remove your bag, our staff was met with you arguing about the rule being unfair and "stupid". While we understand your frustration, these rules are put in place to ensure the safety of our members and staff. Every member is informed of this rule upon sign-up, we also have 7 different signs placed around the gym.
Fantastic experience: Management is great and accomadating. Gym is super solid, looking forward to those renovations!
Fantastic experience: Work out with Sherry at Crunch Ancaster. She is very patient and helpful. She is a very experience trainer and I am seeing very good results with her.
Thank you for your feedback on your personal training. Sherry has been with us for over 10 years and is one of our superstar trainers! We are so glad to hear you are meeting your goals. Keep up the great work.
Fantastic experience: Great atmosphere, not busy at all in the morning. Great price. Not much more you can ask for
Thank you for your feedback Liam. Stay tuned for the expansion coming this summer, Including a HIITZONE, Tanning, Hydromassage & much more!
Negative experience: This location is a joke ive been a member since before crunch took it over the owner is a slum lord of gyms Monday and Tuesday nights are jammed with gangs of teenagers fixing their hair and hanging out its near impossible to get a work out in i guess when u offer 9 bucks a month thats what u get the best part is the gym no longer has a AED because the owner was to cheap to buy a new battery for it so dont have a heart attack there most times no soap in bathroom most summers no A/c dont waste ur money go else where anybody who says its not crowded is lying always lots of broken equipment
We are sorry to hear your disappointment, however our gym is open to the youth ages 14+. We personally take pride in helping younger people get started on their fitness journey and achieve their goals, as this is a judgement free zone. Anytime between 4-6PM is considered our peak hours, and the gym can get a little busier which is why we are expanding by over 6,000 SQ ft to bring comfort to our members. Furthermore, we have 2 cleaners come in daily, once in the morning and once in the afternoon, and have not heard about the soap issue before but will take extra precaution to ensure they are being filled, feel free to let the front desk staff if they ever empty and they will be happy to fill them immediately. We take pride in our equipment and for the past 3 months have only had 2 treadmills go out of service as we are waiting for parts to come in, and have much more coming in with our expansion. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to welcoming you for your next workout!
Positive experience: Experience is mostly good. A few broken cardio machines. Only effects when really busy. They are expanding. You really can't beat it for the price
Thank you Paul. We are waiting on parts for those two treadmills, but have recently added new bikes and newer equipment is coming with the expansion in the summer!
Fantastic experience: I love this location. The management and staff are awesome! I had an issue with a PT at another Crunch location, which triggered a lot of insecurities. The management and staff at Ancaster were so helpful, accommodating, and welcoming with transferring my home gym. This location is always clean, the equipment is well taken care of, and it always feels like a positive environment. They are also expanding and I'm excited for this location! I recommend anyone who has had doubts of joining a gym to come to this location. You won't regret it!
Thank you for your kind words Jay. We are glad that our staff was able accommodate you and keep you on your fitness journey. We take pride in creating a welcoming and safe environment for all.
Fantastic experience: I recently joined this gym. It is never much busy and always clean. Also, The staff and especially Ardala helped me a lot. It was my first time in a gym but the moment I walked into the gym, Ardalan made sure to understand my goals and what I wanted to achieve. He also made me feel comfortable and confident. He took the time to explain how to use each piece of equipment properly and showed me the correct posture for every exercise. If you're looking for a personal trainer who will not only help you reach your goals but also make the journey comfortable, I highly recommend Ardalan.
Positive experience: Definitely a little ran down and small compared to other locations , but aside from that there’s a significantly smaller group of people attending as well which makes up for it , there’s always something to critique, but we had a good workout at the location.
Thank you for your feedback. Follow us on Instagram to stay updated regarding our renovations and equipment!
Positive experience: Never too crowded, even for a smaller gym I can almost always use the equipment I want to when I’m there. The only problem I’ve run into is the treadmills, there are usually a few (3 or 4) out of order, however, because it’s never too packed I can normally still find one to use, even if that means using another machine while I wait for a bit. Overall, it’s a small but mighty gym with friendly staff and for the price, no complaints.
Thank your for the review Emma! We are glad you are enjoying your experience with us!
Negative experience: I decided I wanted to open a gym membership at this location but unfortunately I was left very disappointed, I went over on my lunch break and the whole time I was left standing around as the man who I assume was a manger and a front desk lady talking and laughing together and completely ignoring me, it’s hard enough to walk into a gym so having this kind of treatment was horrible I took my business else better.
Fantastic experience: I just joined and had my Crunch 1 Kick-off with Cale today. He was excellent! He listened to my goals (balance and weight loss - I'm a geezer) and had lots of suggestions with the BOSU and swiss ball. The gym has a lot of buff people in the evening but has your average Joes during the day.
Fantastic experience: Great owner and staff, you can tell they are passionate and love going to work just on attitude alone. A lot of these Google reviews do not match to actual Crunch Ancaster. It is laid back with a more mature crowd. The equipment is in good condition and the change rooms are very clean. I signed up for a full year because the experience speaks for itself. Highly recommend. - 01/24
Thank you for your kind feedback Ashlynn. We are very glad to hear that you had such a good experience with our staff. We look forward to having you for the full year, and hopefully many more to come!
Fantastic experience: I recently had a fantastic experience at Crunch Fitness, specifically at the Golf Link location. The manager, David, along with Muhammad and Kale, demonstrated exceptional professionalism. Their dedication went above and beyond as they patiently explained the equipment and enthusiastically welcomed me into their fitness community. David's role as a guide and manager reflects his kindness and expertise in hiring the right people. The entire team's professionalism and positive spirit made joining Crunch Fitness a great decision. Excited for my 1-year subscription!
We are so happy to hear about your positive experience at Crunch Ancaster. We look forward to having you for a full year and hopefully many more in the future!
Negative experience: Went to see about a membership, it's very ghetto. I get it, you get what you pay for but sand the place down and throw a coat of paint on the walls. Make an effort. I decided against it as there was hardly any machines and even half a dozen people make this place look packed.
Positive experience: good size space for what it is, they said they're upgrading making it bigger inside with renovations. It's cleaner than it was before when I use to go 6 years ago. Crunch staff if you aren't doing anything go put new stickers on the weights.. as they have some missing on almost all the equipment, that same equipment has been there since the beginning when I use to go, I recently just joined black friday * HIGHLY RECOMMEND SAUNAS * !!
Positive experience: Small, not alot of amenities
Fantastic experience: Great customer service
Positive experience: Really like the atmosphere and training personnel
Positive experience: Knowledgeable staff and friendly members.
Fantastic experience: I love this place. Nice staff and friendly people.
Fantastic experience: Great classes. Welcoming atmosphere. Great price. Checks all the boxes.
Fantastic experience: Dumbbells came back for previous place! Great Idea!!! My favorite place, always .
Negative experience: Most equipment is out of service for a while now. Doesn’t look clean..sorry
Fantastic experience: Crunch ancaster has been my favourite gym since I started to work out, they have all esentials
Negative experience: The staff is very rude. I was just explaining my problem to the person I was speaking to when they quickly hung up the phone and chose not to hear me.
Negative experience: So many machines are broken, the place looks so run down, the showers are disgusting... looks like the weight machines were just thrown wherever they fit lol
Negative experience: Went into Crunch Fitness Ancaster to cancel our 3 memberships, that we have not used in a year, Lady working explained the cancelation system was down working and to call tomorrow and they could cancel, I called and spoke to a Claude(?) and explained that I came in yesturday to cancel and they told me to call and cancel, he informed me I could not cancel on the phone and that I needed to come in, I explaiend it's taken me a year to make it in to cancel and that it's not my fault their system was down when i came in, to my suprise he responded 'actually it is" and his voice sounded like he was giggling - very fustrating
Fantastic experience: Very helpful in achieving my goals and diagnosing my pain. Vic is wonderful to deal with and Sherry is always looking out for my best interest. Thanks!
Fantastic experience: My home gym! Love this location and the classes are fantastic! Couldn’t have asked for a better place to work on my health and fitness.
Negative experience: The air conditioner is broken most often. Today the temp was 77 at 7am, dangerously high for a wok out place
Negative experience: Not accommodating for the missing items. The Manager said they don’t have time to check it. I usually see the staff seating and using personal phone or reading a book. Very disappointing.
We sincerely apologize for the unfortunate incident involving the loss of your belongings subsequent to your placement within the designated changeroom area.Following your initial notification, our diligent team promptly conducted a thorough search encompassing the women's change room, the designated lost and found repository, as well as the aerobics room.Upon further communication with you, we regretfully conveyed that your items were regrettably not located. We place significant value on the maintenance of an impeccably operated facility, committed to ensuring cleanliness, security, and an optimal environment to the best of our capabilities. It is with genuine remorse that we acknowledge the mishap involving the loss of your personal items.
Fantastic experience: Time to hit it!. Great price, I'll let you know my experience at this location later when I can give an honest opinion but I'm anticipating a great experience.
Negative experience: Terrible customer service. Trying to cancel for 3 months now keep getting the run around and being charged. Asked to call corporate and on hold for 45 mins only to have someone answer and cancel..It's like they have children running the organization. Do not recommend.
Fantastic experience: Super friendly staff, always clean, everyone mostly minds their own business, there's a wide variety of machines, and not usually busy. My only complaint is that because it's a smaller space there's not as many of certain equipment so either there's a wait or if they break there's no other option you just have to wait for it to get fixed which usually takes a while.
Positive experience: Not a bad gym at all definitely gets the job done. Can get busy at normal peak times after work/school in that 4-6pm block with a lot of High Schoolers but I rarely go at that time. Weekends aren't too busy. In terms of equipment, a lot of machines so that is good. Only 2 squat racks but I rarely have to wait. Also only 1 bench press, and again usually this is available. The free weight situation can be annoying as sometimes there's only 1 pair of 20lbs or 25lbs for example. The owner has shifted things around so there's plenty of space now so kudos to him. Good amount of cardio machines. Overall change room is kept pretty clean and showers are available.
Negative experience: Looks like they threw the gym together with leftover random weights from thrift stores. Not enough weights for an intermediate lifter to do a good workout. The equipment is falling apart, hole in the wall. Even at $5/month this place is overpriced. The main st location is 1,000x better gym and costs the same! Lots of novice lifters doing bad form and dangerous lifts, only 1 set of dumbbells so you can't get a workout in because people take a set and you're waiting for them to finish. Save your time, go anywhere else. I've gone to gyms for 26 years and this is by far the worst hole in the wall I've seen in my life lol.
Negative experience: I love crunch. My favourite gym chain, the Waterdown and Burlington locations are amazing. I was looking forward to trying the Ancaster location as it was a lot closer to home for me. Unfortunately I was rather disappointed, the gym was really dirty, the lockers in change room looked all beaten up, the weight machines were in poor shape, not a single sanitization bottle in sight to clean up the equipment when done, I was there for almost an hour and I’m convinced no one works here as there wasn’t one staff member in sight. If this location would invest in some maintenance and some basic cleaning this gym could have potential.
Positive experience: You pay for what you get. The price is great (I pay $12 a month, with 50 joining fee), but expect a bare minimum experience. They have minimal staff, old, rusty equipment, and relatively clean ablutions. The gym is small, with only one bench-press bench and mostly one of everything in general (except cables and treadmills of course). Things are very run down, with cracked mirrors, static televisions, grindy treadmills, etc. But the essentials work, all the weights and machines are in working condition. My evaluation: On the one hand its not a great gym, but on the other hand their membership fee is very low. So in the end I'm happy with what I get out of my money. Just for anyone considering joining here: Keep your expectations low. This really is a $13 gym.
Negative experience: Old and run down. Equipment always out of order which in a small gym is a problem. I workout early mornings, but I wouldn’t want to come at peak times as you would never get on any equipment and it would be far too hot, as the air circulation isn’t great. Also don’t count on it being open at 5.30am. These are pics of the gym, ‘after’ the ‘refurb’. If you can use another location, do so to avoid disappointment.
Positive experience: Great to get a workout in, location is a tad small.
Negative experience: Biggest SCAMMERS and biggest joke gym ever
Positive experience: Need to have more sanitizers bottles
Fantastic experience: I use to go to the one uptown.. So I registered at this one...really like it
Fantastic experience: A little crowded and could use a bit more upkeep on the weights and machines. My.preffered gym.when it's not too busy
Negative experience: Convenient location, but you get what you pay for. No air conditioning, old equipment, very crowded.
Negative experience: I cancelled my membership in April and they have continued to charge me! The staff member who I spoke with on the phone was rude and dismissive, and my emails are never returned. Terrible business with terrible customer service!
Positive experience: The gym is small and very crowded. Doesnt have enough equipment like other gyms. But for that price i guess it make sense .
Fantastic experience: Opening hours are very convenient . Staff members are attentive . The facility is clean and well maintained.
Negative experience: Not ideal for people over 30 who work 8-5 looking to work out after work..super busy with young adults & very crowded until 8:30-9:00 pm…cleanliness is ok, wipe down stations are usually adequately stocked… for 30 bucks a month it’s pretty good.
Fantastic experience: Nice and all you want kind of gym. My personal trainer was sherry. She helped me understand many basics and I am thankful to her. Kayla at the reception is always welcoming.
Negative experience: gym was alright. missing equipment (dipping belt). it had a broken 100 lb dumbbell which was barely usable, and didn’t feel good when setting up for a press. equipment was also rusting. they need new stuff
Negative experience: Horrible gym over all, dirty bathrooms. It’s legit 10am and I wanted to wash ny hands and no soup was in the bathroom. I asked the front desk and they said just to use hand sanitizer LOL! and that the cleaner is female and cannot go in the male change room. Meanwhile the owner is a male and he can easily do a walk through of his own business to see simply if there’s soup for people to use after hectic pandemic this year and giving me pointless excuses… Also Machines are broken and not useable, there’s no barbell clips to safely do workouts. I would not recommend this location Because it’s privately owned and the owner clearly doesn’t care nor do the staff save your time and money and go somewhere els
Negative experience: Most horrible worst gym, well not the gym itself. The manager is very rude and unreasonable. And with that the gym itself isn’t worth it. You will be charged unwanted fees and cancellation is near impossible they want to take as much money as they can from you. I’ve went to many gyms and none are like this one. Every gym has had my back with any situations money wise, but not this one. most gyms would flag an un paid for account that hasn’t been touched/used in months(long story), this gym will send it to a revenue agency. SAVE YOURSELF TIME AND MONEY FIND ANOTHER GYM.
Negative experience: This is legitimately the worst gym in Hamilton. Genuinely mind-boggling the level of ineptitude of this place in its ability to maintain its equipment and atmosphere as well as amenities, not to mention bathrooms/change rooms. Crunch itself is a pretty horrendous brand but this is the worst location they have, second to none.
Fantastic experience: Receptionist r nice lol
Fantastic experience: I do love the classes being offered and the fitness group management is great. Classes are fun and upbeat. The staff at the front desk have improved significantly since changing over to Crunch fitness. Have I mentioned that Moe is one of THE friendliest and most approachable + accommodating individuals they've hired. Looking forward to seeing what the gym looks like after all the renos have been completed
Fantastic experience: Called to check the hours. This now is Crunch fitness. Cheap and does the same. Good job crunch, excellent location
Fantastic experience: I’ve been coming here for 4+ years. The Manager (Victor) brings a positive vibe to the gym and goes out of his way to ensure the experience is great. Also Candice makes sure the gym is always spotless and Valery at the front greets you with a smile every time you come in. I can’t say enough about the staff at this location. I highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Does this location have a tanning bed?
Fantastic experience: Usually not crazy busy if you go at right time. Clean,
Fantastic experience: Upper james is my home gym, but saw that they opened one in Ancaster. ALOT better and cleaner than upper james and the machines actually all work. ill be back for sure. Staff is friendly and Victor was very welcoming !
Fantastic experience: Nice and all you want kind of gym. My personal trainer was sherry. She helped me understand many basics and I am thankful to her. Kayla at the reception is always welcoming.
Fantastic experience: The classes and the instructors are phenomenal. Great job
Negative experience: Don't bother with this place. Terrible customer service.
Negative experience: They lock you into contracts that never end and then they conveniently don't tell you about it until you owe them money.
Negative experience: The lowest quality gym I've seen. I honestly have no idea how it got so many 5 star reviews.
Fantastic experience: This gym is great. Everyone is friendly. The equipment and place is clean. I feel safe during these uncertain times. Mike is awesome and is the best trainer and manager. He really cares about your fitness and wellbeing.
Fantastic experience: Great gym from what I've seen. I've been going for over a year and so far have had nothing but great experiences and have gotten fantastic value.
Negative experience: Saturday. Waiting for gym to open. No one here. Now 715am. Supposed to open at 0700. So disorganized.
We are sorry for the inconvenience on Saturday morning. Our very good standing employee had an unexpected car breakdown that morning and had to arrange alternative transportation causing her to arrive a bit late. We are sorry for the convenience.
Positive experience: It is not packed, there is always spot to work out, it also has great hours and many programs. Staff is friendly
