East Coast Amateur Boxing

East Coast Amateur Boxing Academy is a traditional, no-frills boxing club located in Halifax, dedicated to promoting fitness, confidence, and character through the sport of boxing. Founded by veteran coach Richard MacDonald, who brings over 40 years of coaching experience and a background training provincial and national champions, the academy offers a supportive environment for individuals of all ages, genders, and fitness levels. The club operates out of a facility at 225 Bedford Highway, providing an authentic "old-school" training atmosphere.

The academy offers a variety of class formats to suit different needs. Mixed Boxing sessions are held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, open to teens (over 12) and adults. These classes focus on building cardio strength, stamina, and self-confidence, teaching participants that boxing is about skill and courage rather than aggression. A special orientation program is available for new boxers to learn the basics in a safe setting. Women's Boxing classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays and are strictly non-competitive, focusing on full-body cardio workouts, fitness, and empowerment in a women-only environment.

Membership options include monthly dues for mixed classes and per-class fees for women's sessions, with registration handled directly through the club. The academy emphasizes that boxing develops determination and strength of character that extends beyond the gym. Whether you are looking to get fit, learn a new skill, or support a loved one, East Coast Amateur Boxing Academy provides a safe, encouraging, and disciplined space to grow. Contact Melissa or Coach Richard to book an introductory session or learn more about private training options.

Fantastic experience: Alana, I just checked my junk mail and your last email to me went to an odd folder. I'm sorry for not responding. I am usually very prompt with responses. I will send you a reply via email after this. Bruce, the East Coast Amateur Boxing Club is very much open. You must have been there when it was closed between classes. Yes, it is certainly an old school boxing club, so no, it is not pretty, but it certainly authentic. it is not shiny and new like Goodlife. :) The gym does usually close in August, but always reopens in September.

Fantastic experience: I think this gym has been abandoned. Stopped in and it's been nailed shut. Kinda scary there too...the only other one I know of is Twin City boxing. Very disappointed too...they should close the web site too
