Fantastic experience: I really like our local YMCA because it offers a wide range of activities and programs for all ages. The facilities are clean and well-maintained, and the staff is always friendly and helpful. Whether I want to swim, work out, or join a class, there’s always something available. Plus, it’s a great place to meet new people and be part of the community. The YMCA truly makes staying active and healthy enjoyable.

I'm a newcomer to Goderich and my family will join me here next week. I'm sure we will enjoy together in the YMCA. I recommend all newcomers.

Fantastic experience: Super clean fun facility with wonderful staff and many activities to suit one and all. Great hours! There’s something for everyone in our family. Mom does aquafit and multiple yoga classes plus walks the indoor track. Dad walks the track and uses the gym for training. Our son runs on the indoor track and works out at the gym and plays Monday night basketball. So many options! Staff are amazing especially Courtney at the desk!!!!

Fantastic experience: I started using the walking track after a long delay during covid. This is sponsered by our local medical center. Everyone is friendly and acknowledges me. Amanda who runs this program actually remembered my name & was pleased to see me return. She really cares! What a great program & I really appreciate it.

Fantastic experience: Had my daughter’s birthday party here, Brianna was such a kind hearted soul. One of the kids had a nose bleed and she quickly got everyone off the bouncy castle and cleaned it all up in a matter of 5 minutes. She also made sure everyone else was okay! Awesome staff member!

Positive experience: I play pickleball here 5 days a week. The pool is closed right now. Jr hockey and old timers hockey available. Check schedule for the day because frequent cancellations in favor of school pd days etc.

Negative experience: $56 for a one month membership is ridiculous, especially for someone only using the gym. The gym is petite with mediocre equipment. Maybe offer a gym only membership for those who have no intent of using any of the other facilities.

Positive experience: The ymca could definitely use more programming for kids, and the walking track isn't free which is disappointing. Facilities are typically clean.

Negative experience: While this facility is beautiful and state of the art, the pool leaves a lot to be desired. Not only is it kept at very cold temperatures, but the lifeguard staff is continually unwelcoming and unpleasant to deal with. We have been attending this pool for a year, and have had few (if any) positive experiences with it. We have gotten to a point where we would rather drive over an hour to Hanover, to use their pool, then 5 minutes down the road to use the one in our own home community. We have two young kids who are homeschooled, and have always had pool time as one of their favourite outings. One of our children is considered medically fragile. We asked for some special consideration to allow for him to be able to attend the daytime swims (as he is one year older than their "allowed" age for parent and tot swim time) and were told that under no circumstances would there be exceptions made. (Our child has cancer and is unable to attend large public gatherings; making the public swims after school hours impossible for us to make use of.) Our children are well behaved and enthusiastic about swimming - but we have not had one experience at the Maitland Recreation Center pool that left us with a good taste in our mouth. We are moving away from Goderich, and must admit that the unpleasant experiences we have had at the pool were one of the deciding factors on this move. It is with regret that we would not recommend this pool to anyone with children, as it seems designed for and supportive of retirement age residents, but not families.

Negative experience: 2018: Unfortunately over the last couple of years I've had to change my rating from a 5 to a 2. The facilities are nice, but the management is terrible. They seem to have trouble holding onto staff and rely too much on seasonal high school workers. Because of that the pool and/or hot tub are frequently closed because they don't have enough lifeguards. And when the pool is open, the pool supervisor is conducting lifeguard training classes in the pool, yelling at the top of her lungs, and treating paying members as if they're bothering her. I've talked with the management about this before and they assured me that they'd schedule the training for times when the pool is closed. But it happened today...again. I'm tired of paying monthly dues to an organization that doesn't value its members. 2016: The facilities at this YMCA are top-notch. I used to belong to the Y in Toronto which had the same amount of activities but didn't have a community feel. The Goderich building has a great ice rink, very well-equipped gym, and the best indoor pool, whirlpool and sauna I've seen. From the pool to the gym to the change rooms, everything is very clean.

Fantastic experience: Have everything you need. Go here for the gym. They recently got new equipment which is great. The Smith machine cables are looser on one side but it's still usable. Only downfall is that it's always hot up in the gym area in the summer.
