URec: Opinions
Positive experience: Very nice recreation centre serving the university campus alongside patrons outside of it as well. The abundance of squat racks and free weights is great for experienced fitness enthusiasts or those acclimated to exercises which can be completed with these pieces, however a "state of the art gym" missing Lat pull downs, seated rows and leg pressed is behind it's contemporaries as well. That said, a fine facility that served me well on my vacation and one I would definitely return to if back again!
Negative experience: Limited equipment
Negative experience: The staff did not know what they were doing and were unhelpful. Additionally the staff had racist tendencies and were clearly only interested in the game of volleyball and not helping their guests have a good time playing the sports they like.
Fantastic experience: Amazing facility! Was only there for an evening and I'm glad we had access to such a nice gym
Fantastic experience: Best place!
Negative experience: Poorly run by uneducated management and students who can't seem to get on the same page as far as rules and regulations. The courts are normally reserved for private groups and the fitness center is atrocious. Save your money and use it at one of the much better equipped facilities in town.
Negative experience: Worst gym in fredericton, always dirty, always smells. The kids working the desk are not helpful and the manager Matt Forester doesn't know what he's doing.
Fantastic experience: Love it
Fantastic experience: Great place.
Fantastic experience: Great atmosphere
Positive experience: Decent gym with questionable design choices. The good: new equipment, and a decent amount of it. They're not missing too much - some easy curl barbells would be a good addition. Staff are friendly. The bad: the weight room is small. UNB is a reasonably large university, and the weight room is not sized to accommodate the number of students. Cable machines are on a different floor from the weights. I would assume this has something to do with size constraints, but you could have the weight room on the same floor as the cable machines, and then the stretching room could be where the weight room is. Lots of racks are positioned awkwardly with respect to the mirrors. Some are not square to the mirror, which can be easy fixed, but there's one that has a giant structural column partly obscuring the mirror. Some racks are positioned right on a mirror seam. The running track is a very odd length - 192 meters. That's pretty short, which makes for a lot of turns, but it's also 8 meters shy of a number that's easy to add up. I get the feeling the Currie center was designed by people who didn't consult anyone who exercises, and the result was weird choices like the cable machines being colocated with the cardio machines, on a separate floor from the weights, and also the track being a really odd length.
Positive experience: No trainer, but has one of the best gyms in town. Badminton and basketball courts are the highlights of this place. Mask restrictions are still there despite its 2022. Not sure if it's govt guidelines or imposed rules.
Positive experience: I like this gym.3 levels with many facilities and courts
Positive experience: I like this gym.3 levels with many facilities and courts
Positive experience: Great gym with friendly staff!
Positive experience: Good facilities.
Positive experience: Layout is difficult to plan some workout routines as equipment is spread out between 2 floors (cardio/machines on 3rd, free weights on 1st). Small running/walking track is a nice alternative to the treadmill.
Positive experience: Neat & well organised. More indoor games could be introduced.
Fantastic experience: Just joined here as an alumni!
Fantastic experience: Great equipment.
Fantastic experience: Great spot
Positive experience: Equipment is fairly new. Good helping staff
Fantastic experience: Wanna workout, go there
Fantastic experience: World class gymnasium! It's claimed to be around 20 million dollars gym and when you enter it, it sure feels like one. Ground floor has two basketball courts and the free weights training room, while the first floor has a walking/jogging track. Yeah inside the gym! The third floor has a great space for stretching and finest of cardio equipments along with a lot of weight machines! It has two more basketball courts (total - 4) on the fourth floor which doubles as an excellent hall, for events throughout the year! A lot of kind help is provided by the staff and the personal trainer (paid service).
Positive experience: Everyone is kind, good spot.
Positive experience: Love the sheer variety of stuff that is here. Powerlifting equipment, MMA stuff, TRX, climbing wall, pool and more! However, I find myself waiting for the equipment I want to use a lot. Furthermore, the climbing wall is only open for 4 hours a day; kind of a rip, considering how much I pay for it. I found this out after I asked the front desk guy at the Beaverbrook Gymnasium, where he gladly told me the hours after I stood there and waited for him to acknowledge me while he tried to get a date with a girl standing nearby.
Positive experience: Lacks decent equipment, many of the machine are quite old and worn. But it has a good atmosphere.
Fantastic experience: Clean equipment. Friendly staff. Good hours.
Fantastic experience: Best gym in the city. Great equipment and friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities
Fantastic experience: great gym; not usually over crowded; great selection -3 floors.
Positive experience: Staff is nice but some can be snarky.. equipment is great except treadmills, they're awful.. also no outdoor track or trails
Positive experience: For some sport, there is not enough equipment
Positive experience: AC doesn't work occasionally...
Fantastic experience: great gym; not usually over crowded; great selection -3 floors.
Positive experience: Good variety of equipment but the locker rooms could be updated
Fantastic experience: Gym at its bese
Fantastic experience: A wide range of facilities are available for free for students. Gym, cardio, jogging track and many more.
Fantastic experience: Great staff, Extremely smart, fantastic equipment in the facility.
Positive experience: Very nice gym with a lot to offer, can become VERY packed during the peak hours (usually right after work around 5:00pm).
Fantastic experience: Open recreation is what you try anything you want.
Fantastic experience: Great spot for a workout!
