Starz In Motion Dance Studio

Expérience fantastique: Having been a part of the Starz family for over a decade now, I can’t say enough good things about Starz in Motion. The facility - aside from some congestion in the entryway with footwear (which isn’t the studio’s fault, folks just don’t put their shoes away at times) the space is clean and comfortable. There are several studios within the facility that have dance classes running concurrently throughout the week in order to cover the wide range of dance styles available. The two waiting areas for parents are comfortable and spacious. One has a number of comfortable couches and the other is filled with chairs and has ample space for dancers waiting to start their classes to stretch in. There is a quiet waiting space as well for the youth that have homework to do, or just need a less busy place to wait! Several washrooms are available and are cleaned regularly. The staff - the owner goes above and beyond to ensure that every dancer feels loved and supported. This is evident in the way children flock to her as she walks through the facility and the way parents beam at her. She is always willing to answer questions about the classes, the dancer’s progression and next steps, address concerns and offer advice about any aspect of the class. As a parent and dancer who did not grow up dancing, this has been incredibly important to me. The teachers, from the youth assistants to the adults, all have the same attitude. They are all there for the love of dance and genuinely enjoy teaching others not just how to dance but how to work within a team, how to overcome challenges, how to hit goals and how to compete with yourself in a healthy way. They have gone above and beyond what I would consider to be part of their job, from video chats to address concerns to scheduling in additional time outside of classes to work one on one on a tricky skill. When a routine tackles a tough topic (deployment, a friend passing, a divorce, an important historical moment) great care is taken to talk about the subject matter in a way that the dancers understand. As a family with members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community they have been incredibly supportive, adapting to pronoun changes with ease and respect and encouraging students to the same. The staff take a firm, but friendly approach with their students and have the students success as a priority. The office staff is the friendliest you’ll find, always with a smile on her face and a willingness to answer a question. If she doesn’t know it, she’ll find it! The classes - tot, ballet, tap, lyrical, acro, jazz, musical theatre, contemporary, hip hop, pointe, adult classes (lyrical, jazz, hip hop, ballet), recreational and competitive. There are also workshops throughout the year offering strength and conditioning, stretch, salsa, focus on specific skills (jumps, turns, etc) and a week long summer day camp! There is an incredible amount on offer here. The dancers - overall, the dancers at Starz are kind and supportive. The stereotypical image that the general public has of dance studio life doesn’t apply here. Constantly encouraging each other, helping each other work through tough skills, cheering not only for each other at competitions but other studios as well. They’ve won awards for being the friendliest studio at competitions even! So many lasting friendships have been formed from their time with Starz in Motion, and not just the youths. The parents - you’ve probably seen at least a clip of “Dance Moms”. That’s not these parents. Always willing to lend a hand, whether it’s to get kids to or from class when you’re stuck, helping you get your kid on stage when you’ve gotten lost and arrive ten minutes before show time (true story), recording a practice that you couldn’t make it to, lending an ear, offering hugs, cheering on your kid as loudly as their own, painting sets, sewing (or hot glueing!) costumes…. All in all, our time at Starz has been amazing and we wouldn’t choose to dance anywhere else in the Valley. Their attitude of inclusion, support and commitment to their mission is top tier.

Expérience fantastique: My daughter has danced at Starz In Motion for six years. The instructors are amazing and Chantal Van Hoof (owner) always goes over an above for her dancers. If you're looking for a studio that fosters confidence and brings out the best in your child, look no further. All the stars for Starz.

Expérience fantastique: Awesome dance studio. Highly recommend to anyone looking to get their little one into dance classes. The owner, Chantal, is amazing, the staff are all so supportive of the dancers and really good at what they do! The end of year recital is always so exciting for my daughter.
