Expérience fantastique: We have a family that includes small children. My husband, myself and our two older girls attend Valens Jiu Jitsu. We have been with these coach’s for over a year. We were looking to learn a martial art where there is no striking and our kids would gain self confidence and strength in a safe, clean and friendly environment. The coach’s are knowledgeable and talented with both adults and children. They are incredibly patient. When you come to this dojo it’s a bit like joining a family. When we’re initially looking for a place to learn jiu jitsu (we were complete beginners) we visited all of the locations in town. We really noticed the friendly and happy atmosphere amongst all of the parents and other participants with Coach Andrew’s dojo. As a beginner adult, the upper belts have been incredibly supportive and everyone is always willing to teach you or help with any challenges you may have. There seems to be a good range of skill levels at this gym. They also frequently have several high ranking competitive guest instructors throughout the year. If you are looking for a friendly and safe environment to have fun and get in shape then this is the place for you!

Expérience fantastique: Wonderful JJ club. The instructors are knowledgeable, the mats are really clean, and the members are respectful, safe, and skilled. Everyone is very friendly. Andrew is super welcoming to people new to the sport and is a great instructor.

The gym itself is modern, clean and very friendly. It has something for everyone from hobbyists to competitive grapplers. Expérience fantastique: I have been training at Valens Jiu Jitsu for about a year and a half. The place is amazing. Starting with our head coach Andrew Hanson. He’s very knowledgeable and a patient instructor! We have other great coaches that help with the adult classes and youth programs. The training area is nice and clean. I always feel welcome with a great training team. I highly recommend Valens Jiu Jitsu to anyone that wants to get in shape learn the sport of jiu jitsu or some self defence. It is really for anyone, young or old!!

Expérience fantastique: I was fortunate to train at valens jiu jitsu academy a little over a week ago and what a great experience! Me and a friend went to the Saturday open mat and it was awesome. Everyone was so friendly and inviting, it felt like I was training at my home gym. I’d recommend anyone wanting to train bjj in Saskatoon to try this gym! Expérience fantastique: Excellent and friendly training environment! I dropped by from out of town to visit a friend and all the coaches and students were very welcoming. Great teaching and very generous in providing personal feedback to help each student. I stuck around after class for some rolling and learned a lot from the coaches. I was also able to observe the kids class prior to adults class and was really impressed by how the coaches cared for and also challenged the kids. Would highly recommend Midwest to any adult or kid!

The Head Coach Andrew Hanson is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (sport and self defense) and embraces every opportunity to deliver his passion for BJJ in all classes. What I love the most about Midwest BJJ is the format in which Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is taught. Coach Andrew has a training curriculum for the kids, adults, and competitive athletes. Classes are very well structured and organized which I find makes Midwest BJJ a unique place to train. The teaching methodology allows for everyone to learn at their own pace without feeling overwhelmed and most importantly without a feeling of being left behind. I have always wanted to do a martial art and thought that at 48 it was too late to start and mentally had settled to just enjoy watching my 12-year-old son train BJJ at Midwest BJJ. However, Coach Andrew told me “The best time to have started BJJ was when you were a kid. The next best time to start is TODAY.” And this has been the best decision I have made!! There are many outstanding qualities of Midwest Brazilian Jiu Jitsu that make this an ideal place to train BJJ, but the ones that stand out are excellent instructors, very welcoming, safe environment, clean and awesome training partners. I highly recommend Midwest Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to anyone interested in self defense, sports BJJ or someone looking to get a great workout!!

Expérience fantastique: Incredible coaches and excellent people to be around. The coaches are highly skilled and have Won multiple world tittles. The coaches are extremely intuitive on what they are teaching and is always willing to help. The main coach (coach Andrew) has a long line of world titles as coaches behind his belt and often brings them over for seminars to make sure you get the most experience possible and the best. I could go on forever about why their great but I doubt you want to read a novel. And they have a week free trial if you aren’t willing to go for it but I doubt you will need a whole week to sign up.

Expérience fantastique: I just began training BJJ in September, but I’m glad I started at Midwest. It’s got a very welcoming atmosphere, and great people to train with. Everyone there is always excited learn and pass on what they know. Additionally, the instructors are (in my opinion,) top notch. They are very knowledgeable, and ready to talk one on one if you are having issues with anything in the program. Overall, I would definitely recommend Midwest BJJ to anyone interested in the sport, self defense, or just being active.

Expérience fantastique: Midwest Jujitsu is a welcoming, safe and nurturing environment for anyone who wants to learn Brazilian Jujitsu for sport, competition or self protection. Coach Andrew Hanson teaches the principles and not just the techniques. Each are broken down and explained in ways which even non marital artists can easily relate to and understand. But more important for me is the fact that Andrew does not teach from theory, nor from books or videos; but from his proven competitive experience and hard earned credentials as a lifelong martial artist and competitive fighter. I feel safe in the knowledge that everything I’m learning has been pressure tested and will ‘work’ - if I’m diligent enough to train often :) and now I won’t be looking to train anywhere else.

Expérience fantastique: I was hesitant to start learning jujitsu because I had no martial arts experience and thought the learning curve would just be to great. I’m so glad I finally grew the nerve to start! Andrew is an amazing coach. From a complete newbie perspective, he gives you enough to challenge you but he breaks the skills down enough that allows you to feel successful after every session. All of the training partners are very good to “the new guy”. There is no judgment or snickering, everyone is there to help you and is happy to see you improve. If you’ve been thinking about trying out jujitsu, stop thinking about it and check out Midwest jujitsu!

Midwest Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Saskatoon is a great gym where the instructors care and put hard work into every individual. They have created a curriculum to ensure students are hitting their BJJ goals, all while having fun. Currently my husband, daughter and son attend Midwest. I highly recommend for adults and children.

The jiu-jitsu space is modern and clean with the best mats I have trained on. Coach Andrew is passionate about BJJ and is constantly competing and expanding his knowledge through seminars by other bjj professionals. My training partners are second to none and as a 140lb female I NEVER feel unsafe in any way. I am able to train hard without worrying about injury, and I am always treated with respect.
