Chop Shop Physiques - Spruce Grove

Expérience fantastique: Great variety of equipment; the pendulum squat is a very cool addition. No startup fees, members are friendly.

Expérience positive: The gym is overall decent, and there aren’t a ton of options in the spruce area for a 24h hour gym. but the cleanliness is lacking. There never seems to be clean cloths to be used over the weekends. And the floors don’t seem to ever get cleaned. Would be nice if they could invest in some better benches. The current ones lack the support needed for a solid lift.

Expérience négative: I would only walk into this gym in early mornings. Evenings are an absolute gong show. Kids sparring in the middle of the floor, throwing barbells with >45s on the floor instead of just re-racking at incline bench (if you can't rack it safely, maybe lighten the weight? such a hazard for anyone nearby), screaming, leaving claiming equipment for over 20 minutes while talking with their buddies, pointing & laughing at other members, etc etc. I get the space is only so big & can't fit as much equipment as members would like, so just be aware that you won't be able to access equipment in a timely manner, and have a lot of patience with the young ones messing around. I brought this up in my membership cancellation request so hopefully it gets dealt with (& they were nice enough to get us out of the 7 day cancellation policy even though they didn't acknowledge my concerns - thanks anyways!), but in the meantime just be warned that the gym in the evenings is treated as a playground!

Expérience positive: Recently started going to chop shop and I’m gonna have to stay. Great equipment and staff. Sydney is very helpful, encouraging, and sets a welcoming atmosphere in the gym, which is what I was looking for as I recently switched gyms. Out of all the staff she has stood out to me as she goes above and beyond to help me and others out, starts conversation when I’m at the door, and has let me know about discounts and other services the gym offers. Unfortunately the gym is a bit crowded due to all the machines and even more so on the upper level as the roof is right in your face, but at least they are full of equipment and not the opposite. More space not overcrowded by machines to do some ab workouts would be appreciated. :)

Expérience positive: Decent gym. Very good for bodybuilding, not so great for other kinds of strength applications. Have to expect that though, the gym has Physiques in the name. Lots of the equipment is very nice, particularly the Nautilus hamstring curl/quad extension. That's my favourite machine here. Downsides would be the cables and deadlifting. The cables are really chuggy and it's hard to do rehab work with them, since lower weight selections chug worse. This applies to both cable setups they have. When I want to use cables, I just go to the tri leisure centre since their cables are buttery smooth even down to the lowest weight selection. As for deadlifting, they have a platform attached to their smith. Would rather they be separate. Also, all the plates near the platform don't fit snug to the barbells so they're very very very clanky. Even if you control the weight as slowly as possible, the plates are so clanky that it's going to sound like you threw the barbell down. You could also deadlift in the squat racks where they actually have competition bumpers. But then you're taking up a squat rack. I never deadlift here, I always do it at home. But like previously mentioned, if you're mainly after typical bodybuilding machines then it's a fantastic gym.

Expérience fantastique: I was visiting from out of town and was looking for a gym to workout in, found chop shop online and was able to do a drop in at 4:30am, easy sign up and access. Very high quality equipment and well kept up anytime I am in or close to spruce grove I am definitely stopping by.

Expérience fantastique: After years of going to different gyms, this one finds the best balance. It is a clean, well kept community gym with respectful members. Their equipment is better than most gyms and is maintained bythe staff. Also, this gym can get busy but never to the point where it is aggravating. I have been going to the Spruce Grove location for just over a year and don't have any complaints.

Expérience positive: Overall it’s a nice gym, with a great atmosphere. Downsides are, it’s overly crowded with equipment placement/ too many unused machines. Not enough space for stretching and or warm up area, and the locker rooms could benefit with actual lockers and not just a storage cupboard. Could use a suggestion box at the main door, I’m sure plenty of people would leave comments on how to improve !

Expérience fantastique: **Review is solely related to the Spruce Grove facility** Pro's - clean space - good equipment - 10/10 amazing, friendly staff(benefits of being a small family run business) - quiet during off peak hours - often install new equipment - fair membership pricing - as a local, it feels good to support small businesses in the area! Con's - small space = very crowded during peak hours. I definitely wouldn't gym here if my only availability was during peak hours - only one shower in the Mens/womens changerooms. If you gym in the AM, you might need to wait in a queue to shower. - upper floor has ~8' ceilings = not tall person friendly. Limited vertical space for stretching & exercises. The con's are solely related to the facility. Would be a 10/10 gym if they had a bigger location! Very well organized & well mapped gym in terms of equipment. Chop Shop is owned & operated by a young kid, it's quite the impressive spot!

Expérience positive: Great gym, the only thing that is recommended is to have a sensory friendly environment. Myself and a few other people have a hard time with the cleaner and detergent used to clean equipment and rags. Making it a scent controlled and aware environment would definitely help. Using healthier and less harsh chemicals would definitely be great!

Expérience positive: 2024 May - I have been going to this gym for over a year. The environment is good, it is clean and the staff are nice. Although it seems like it is going a bit downhill over the last few mths. Back in Dec-Jan the owner brought some newer equipment but items on it were not complete till may. I had sent a email and spoke to staff about having weight stickers placed on the new equipment which took 5 mths but then seeing what was placed on them was really no help to determine what each plate weighed (attached pictures). For over a week it was so hot I could barely workout. I had to email in to ask while I was in the building and the staff onsite was nice enough to put the air on. It was completely off. Equipment over the last few mths stayed broken or unusable for weeks. 2023 Recently join a few mth ago and really enjoy the atmosphere. The staff are so friendly ☺️ always there to help out and have gave me some pretty solid advice which is definitely appreciated. Other patrons are super respectful of others and as friendly. clean facility has exactly what I need.

Expérience fantastique: Such a clean space! I appreciate that this gym is 24/7 and has the ability to give you a discounted rate if you share an address, now my twin and I can share a membership. The staff is very kind and so is everyone that attends the gym. This is the first gym I have gone to that has allowed me to not feel uncomfortable and that I shouldn't be there. Bonus to is that it is just 5 min from my house.

Expérience fantastique: Me and my family have been going to this gym for years since it opened ( well me I’ve been on and off but besides that lol) it is a great gym, the owner is a very nice person and is active with the gym, and the staff are always there when they are intended to be and are always willing to help out and listen to suggestions to improve the gym. I would recommend going to the gym if you are a respectful and responsible user and if you aren’t those two things I suggest going somewhere else as the staff and owner don’t tolerate non respectful behaviour and also the gym users don’t respect the non responsible users. So any ways this is a great gym and I definitely recommend it!!!

Expérience fantastique: I've been very pleased with this gym so far. It is a locally owned gym that have owners who truly care about their clients. The staff are extremely kind and helpful. The gym is always clean. They have a variety of equipment to use. They have two locations. I would recommend this gym to anyone who is looking for a gym in the Stony Plain, Spruce Grove and surrounding area. It's by far the best gym in the area.

Expérience fantastique: The environment is great. A lot of friendly members, and the staff is very friendly and helpful too (my wife especially lol). The gym is always clean. Most of the equipment is great, and there is a good variety of it too. In my opinion I would say the gym could use a couple more leg machines (for example; hip adductor/abductor machine, and a lying hamstring curl). It did just recently get a separate leg extension machine which is beneficial. I would also say it could use another adjustable bench, but for the most part it’s got everything you need.

Expérience négative: The reason as to why I’m giving this one star is because the staff are VERY Racist to Native Americans. I have a strong reason to believe this because I am a Native American person and they wrongfully accused me of something that I didn’t do and permanently banned me from their gym. The reasons as to why I was banned is because I apparently flushed someone’s shirt down the toilet, even though not once did I enter the bathroom at all during my session and I made it VERY clear that if they checked the cameras during that time it clearly couldn’t of been me, and oh yeah I was dancing in the gym, and not even an inappropriate dance just a light shuffle. Please be careful if you do decide to ignore my warnings and if your a Native American person STAY AWAY!!!

You will hit the the support bar on the power rack with an overhead press. Some equipment bottoms out at rep with full extension. -some of the equipment feels cheap, bad incline benches
