Cameron Recreation Complex

Informations sur Cameron Recreation Complex
Plans are underway to replace the Cameron Community Centre and Library with new facilities designed to better meet the needs of northeast Burnaby's growing and changing population.
While construction is underway, enjoy programs and activities at our temporary location located inside The City of Lougheed Shopping Centre (lower level across from the cellphone providers aisle, near Guest Services).
Registration by phone at Temporary Cameron is available from 9 am-8:30 pm Monday to Friday, 9 am-6:30 pm Saturday and 9 am-5:30 pm Sunday by calling 604-297-4456.
Temporary Cameron's 55+ Centre is one of 4 Burnaby centres that specialize in programs for adults 55 years and older. These are busy, friendly places where you can meet and socialize, learn new skills and enjoy creative leisure time.
There are elevators in the mall to get to and from the upper floor, including from the roof level where there is additional parking. The mall has designated parking stalls and accessible washrooms.
City of Burnaby is located on the ancestral and unceded homelands of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Sníchim speaking peoples. We are grateful for the opportunity to be on this territory.
Cameron Recreation Complex: Avis
Expérience fantastique: I had a great time at Hannah’s class doing the spin class and after that the hard core class. She is so professional and gives very nice modifications for the hard exercises that everyone can follow. She is so nice too !!
Expérience fantastique: Interesting
Expérience négative: Have been to Cameron Recreation Complex a handful of times to play squash and tennis. There’s a massive $250M upgrade coming, which keeps on getting delayed, and sadly, the courts have been axed from the plans. Good - Two squash, two tennis and one racquetball court. However, the squash courts are not well kept (the side walls feel like brick walls) - Tennis courts are $25.76/hour - Dedicated cycling studio - Men's locker room has a dry sauna Bad - Archaic booking system (no online booking available for squash/tennis courts). Need to call right at 6:00am to book tennis courts. - Men's shower facilities don't have any soap - The front staff are clueless - Small, cramped gym
Expérience fantastique: I hope the City of Burnaby creates the same badminton courts and lighting system in the new complex (sometime in 2024/2025).
Expérience négative: Drove my friend there so she could play tennis. Sat on the bench as she likes to get coached. Staff told me to leave because I was not a paying customer. Had to drive around and wait 2 hours, very inconvenient.
Expérience fantastique: Wonderful rec center. Nice old school charm. Good facilities and excellent staff. Great value squash courts.
Expérience négative: I came to the gym for a drop in session, I usually train at a private powerlifting gym. I came because it was closer to my work and I was short on time before my night shift. I wore slides as I was only doing accessory work and no heavy lifting. An employee named Pam approached me very hostile and told me I needed I have close toed shoes. I said I did not have any and was unaware of the policy, nobody informed me and there was no obvious signage. She told me I needed to leave and come back with close toed shoes. She was very rude. She did not give me a warning or any courtesy. I told her I would be 20 minutes and then leave. She went and got the manager and had them refund me and make me leave the gym. She was absolutely horrid and I would defer anyone from training with her if possible. Save yourself the stress because she clearly has nothing better to do than find ways to bully or nitpick people around her. Pretty sad and terrible customer service. Policy is one thing but a courtesy warning is more than fair, I was incurring no risk to them and only to myself. Thank you for wasting my time. I will be sure never to come back.
Hi Sarah, we're sorry to hear that you've had a bad experience! Our supervisors would like to hear more about it. Please contact them at 604-297-4454 at your convenience. Thank you!
Expérience positive: ***they do not have a pool***
Expérience fantastique: Complex is good for the services it offers. Can’t wait for the new Rec Centre, but we could use more information about it. Ie. when construction starts, what services are moving to the mall, etc.
Expérience positive: I attend cycle classes, (Pedal Power & Weekend Warrior) and the instructors are fantastic and the folks who attend the classes are great! The front administrative staff are very much hit and miss. There are two more seasoned staff who are knowledgeable, smart and have exceptional customer service. The rest are bored, disengaged and lacking customer service skills. I can appreciate it must be a very thankless job; however, as a front desk working for the City, it’s your job to be helpful, competent and friendly.
Hi Carrie, we're sorry to hear that you had this experience and we'd like to learn more about it. The centre supervisor would like to learn more about this issue, and would like you to contact them at 604-297-4456 at your convenience. Thank you!
Expérience positive: Only came here for basketball, it was pretty good experience when there are three teams only, it’s a bit crowded to pac four in 2 hours with just one court. The condition is not bad, not wood flooring but the rubber gives solid grip regardless what shoes you are wearing. That pretty nice. The ball bounced well. And there is a drinking fountain conveniently located inside the court. You could find yourself a spot like three days in advance, comparing with other complex where normally you’d sign up a week ahead. Folks here are nice and friendly.
Expérience positive: Very nice park and community centre. The outdoor area has lots of activities to do for the young and the old. The 3 table tennis tables are great . Recommended!
Expérience fantastique: The staff are amazing and so friendly
Expérience négative: Do not rely on what the schedule hours indicate, I showed up at 6am for an early morning workout and waited for 20 minutes thinking they might be late or something but no one showed up. Going to get my money back.
Hi, we're sorry to hear that you had this experience and we'd like to learn more about it. Please give us a call at 604-297-4456. Thank you!
Expérience fantastique: Gem Gym.
Expérience fantastique: This is honestly my favorite gym. The prices are very fair, the staff are nice- even the people who go there are nice. They have lots of problems for people of all ages to enjoy from basketball/tennis lessons to table tennis and badminton. Upstairs is the library with many community events and rooms for use. Oh the summer are day camps, and all throughout the year many types of people use it like toastmasters, Churches, and martial art dojos. There's also a seniors lounge and events for people ages 55+. Sabrina and Justin are the nicest people I have encountered downstairs and I really appreciate their help and support. I used to dread coming to the gym, but now I'm always looking forward to coming.
Expérience négative: This 3 year, 251,000,000.00 project is being put in a family friendly neighborhood, with one 2 lane street. We have a large number of homeless in Burnaby, it would be hard press to find anyone that thinks spending this much money on a Rec Centre is more important than taking the homeless off the streets. With just giving half to the rec centre and half to the homeless it would of made a giant impact. We can't solve the growing homeless problem by building larger rec centres, I wish we could.
Expérience négative: I went there today and have to go through racism for the very first time in canada. Staff was rude and literally did the racial Discremination. Front counter need to change the staff.
Expérience positive: It's more than 40-years old and was designed for a much smaller population base. A redevelopment had been proposed with an expanded library and sports facilities plus a swimming pool.
Expérience négative: I have been going to this recreation centre for more than 20 years now, however the front desk staff are no longer professional and communication skills is zero - so sad to see how this place has deteriorated.
Thank you for your review. We would like to hear more about your experience. Please email us at [email protected] and a manager will get in touch with you.
Expérience positive: Good place for indoor tennis and other racquet sports. Free parking which is a bonus. Staff was friendly and efficient. Strongly recommended.
Expérience fantastique: Public recreation centre. Recreaction centre best in the area.
Expérience fantastique: Played indoor tennis there. Convenient, accommodating, clean, and the court was in good shape. Only downside is you have to book by phone.
Expérience négative: Unprofessional experience with staff - would appreciate at a basic level not seeing 'management' in the front counter scrolling through their phone's instagram while interacting with people registering for the courts. Also, not friendly at all.
Expérience positive: Great place with lots of sports activity.
Expérience négative: Must be very poorly staffed / beyond capacity. Never picks up calls with over 30 min wait time
Expérience fantastique: Staff is very friendly
Expérience négative: Closed 4 hours early without giving proper notice to people who have booked venue.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. Our facility hours had changed, which impacted our regular programming services. Staff had reached out to customers regarding the time change, and tried to provide alternative booking times for those who were impacted. We apologize for the inconvenience you experienced.
Expérience négative: Very poor performing coach for Orange Level -2 tennis (Thursday 5 PM batch) . He is not concentrating on the students and playing on the mobile most of the times. He is teaching level-2 students with red ball which is beyond understandable. Also not completing full 1 hour of session. He is not resolving the questions queries by student also. Moreover there is no one available on phone from Cameron recreation complex to discuss with. Tried multiple time, no one picks up the phone. Waste of coaching charges + tax payers money on the infrastructure. ☹
Expérience positive: Good courts but only 1 basketball court
Expérience fantastique: Love the squash courts here!
Expérience positive: Cool place to play with kids. Not crowded. And water spray park already works. Lots of fun.
Expérience fantastique: Fantastic place. Super friendly staff.
Expérience fantastique: Organized clean and friendly, good to see you Oliver!
Expérience positive: 운동하기에 매우 좋은 장소 수영장은 없지만 괜찮은 장소
Expérience positive: As my understanding their time in summer is SHORTER than winter. They close at 4pm on Saturdays and 1pm on Sundays when people need public facility most during the weekend. It is really unreasonable as during summer people workout later than usual. I have to accommodate my time during the weekend to complete my workout before they close. Furthermore, the staff will stand by you when you are doing stretches and the time is not 1pm yet, saying the clock on the wall is behind and every clock in the complex is different. After I stepped out checking my cellphone, two more minutes to go.
Expérience positive: Came here for drop-in basketball. Costs $6 for 2.5 hrs. Only 2 hoops and the regulars come here and play pick-up games with no regards to who was there first. They will just take the court from you. Facility is old and worn-down.
Expérience fantastique: Nice place & community
Expérience fantastique: Have come here for wallyball and man is it fun! facilities are well maintained and they have plenty of equipment for you to use.
Expérience positive: Good squash
Expérience positive: Nice Place to enjoy Food.
Expérience positive: Tot gym was fabulous
Expérience positive: friendly helpful staff! clean well maintained facilities.
Expérience fantastique: Friendly staff and great center.
Expérience fantastique: I run a cash prize bingo benefitting Cameron Seniors Society every Weds and it's always a good time where all are welcome if 19+ come check it out and all Cameron Center has to offer
Expérience fantastique: I'm usually there for the library, a compact branch library with very helpful staff, seating, an adequate general selection of books, and if the book you want is anywhere in the Burnaby system, you can request it or they will do Interlibrary loans from other libraries, Vancouver, etc. Well looked-after, convenient library (washrooms outside the library, on the same floor of the rec complex) and you can return books from other branches there. Also, some public-access computer terminals. Rest of the Rec Complex are gyms downstairs and a very active senior's centre.
Expérience positive: I like this community centre gym and also the outdoor gym! Friendly staff and nice location along walking trails.
Expérience positive: Good equipment and amazing staff. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because their schedule does not match with their website's and that they close few hours earlier without notice.
Expérience fantastique: Lots of amenities, comfortable public seating on both floors, and a tons of fitness programs to sign up for. The staff are the some of the friendliest, kindest people I've had the privilege of interacting with.
Expérience positive: Community center with gym, meeting areas, public library, etc.
Expérience positive: Library, squash courts gym and more
