Sugarrays Boxing: Avis

Expérience fantastique: True old-school boxing at its finest. If you’re looking for a place to sweat, grind, and truly learn the art of boxing, this is it. This isn’t a gym where you’ll be doing fluffy circuits or have someone holding your hand through every step. At this gym, you have to be ready to put in real work and listen. Robert, the owner, is the heart of this place. He’s a passionate, dedicated man who genuinely cares about his team and his gym. He’s honest, tough, and pushes you to be better every single day. He knows his stuff and won’t sugarcoat anything—which is exactly what you want in a real boxing gym. If you’re serious about the sport, want that old-school atmosphere, and are willing to put in the effort, this is the place to be. All the coaches and members make the gym a very welcoming place to be. I genuinely enjoy my time there.

Expérience fantastique: Beyond the knowledgeable trainers, clean facilities, and welcoming energy, what really stands out at Sugarrays is the people. Bob is the kind of owner to personally reach out to you and have a 20 minute conversation to make sure everything is going well. An absolute class owner who is in your corner, at an absolute class facility. If you're on the fence, I'd recommend anyone to just give this place a shot!

Expérience fantastique: I’m a 48 year old dad of 2 who always wanted to learn to box and love the fitness part of it. I thought I was too old but this place has proved me wrong! Bob and Carlos are awesome, it’s a great respectful vibe, super clean, and super fun. Plus this is the only real deal boxing place I know of, it’s not just for fitness, these guys really know what they are doing. If you are looking to learn the sport at any age and get in shape this is the place for you.

Expérience fantastique: I did some cardio and boxing sessions. The environment is very friendly and without too much confusion, they have absolutely innovative tools and always have very useful tips to improve the exercises. They have different materials to exercise punches at different impacts. They have an incredible music system and there is always good music. Here there is a real old school American vibe, even if you are in Vancouver for a short time I recommend that you spend a healthy and fun hour.

Expérience fantastique: At first I was intimidated because when you walk into the gym there's people who are very good at boxing training in there, but the coaches and everyone has made me feel so welcomed! The owner, Bob, is very knowledgeable and you can tell he really is passionate about the gym and about boxing training. Carlos has also been an amazing trainer helping me get the basics down. This is really the place to go if you are looking to get into boxing and having fun during the process.

Expérience fantastique: Joined this gym recently and have been amazed at the standard of training, motivation & equipment. Everything needed to succeed in the sport is available here including world class trainers such as Carlos. Bob, the owner has been incredible with his wisdom of the sport and family ethos he brings to the gym every day.

Tom Maslauskas 3 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Cracking boxing gym. Joined in Feb '21 to start boxing and had great tuition throughout. The trainers all know what they are talking about and spend time in and out of the ring to help you improve. The sessions are one hell of a work out and it really is a great community to be part of. Don't expect a fancy gym with every machine under the sun. This is a proper, old school boxing gym with all the cardio equipment, free weight and of course boxing equipment you need. Bob the owner is a great guy and spends time to get to know each an everyone of the members. Highly recommend, whether your starting out or been at boxing for a while.

Expérience fantastique: What a fantastic boxing gym. It’s open 24/7 and has all new equipment. Sugarrays is a real old school, one on one boxing training facility. Bob, the owner, not only knows boxing inside out he actually knows how to train people how to box. I train at the kits location and I look forward to working out again. If you want to actually become a fighter or just get fit Sugarrays is a great gym for you.

Colton Higgins 3 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Hands down the best boxing gym in the city. From the very first phone call I made to sign up and check the gym out, Bob has welcomed me with open arms like family. He is extremely hospitable but also can make you work like the old school boxing gyms should. Carlos is also a wealth of knowledge and fantastic to learn from. The value, the old school vibe, the technical aspect, the knowledge and positivity in this gym is unmatched. If you want to learn how to box for real, no matter what level you are currently at, this is the gym for you. I can’t say enough good things about it.

Expérience négative: Worst gym in town. Horribly run. Bob (the owner) doesn't know anything about boxing and he fosters a negative community. He's an insecure man. During a clients first ever "training session" he hit the kid in the face with his bare hand for not keeping his hands up... im all for rough training tactics like that but not on someone's first day. He had insane mood swings that you can only compare to a child. Very negative man and the type of guy to go against literally anything someone else says they like about boxing just to try and sound smarter. He was terrible to his staff. The staff turn around there is legendary for how fast people quit. These are only a few of the hilariously awful stories I have from there. He yelled at me for busting my sparring partners lip... when we were sparring... at a boxing gym... The gym itself is just good enough, but he markets it as a real fighters gym. Except he doesnt know how to box or teach. Save yourself any trouble and go literally anywhere else. And learn boxing properly. UPDATE - Bob is now calling me everyday, sometimes multiple calls a day, harassing me to take the review down... I will not, so stop calling me. You cannot act like Bob does and get away with it. Hopefully this will be a good lesson. People need to be spared the turmoil of going to this gym. I could have made up a fake name for this review but I didn't because people need to know its legitimate. Bob, rather then spending all your time on here defending you and your gym against all these bad reviews, start not being awful to your staff and clients and they won't leave anymore bad reviews.

Expérience négative: I was going to wait before writing this review, but after reading the other low reviews I'm not convinced that I'm going to get my money back. Nathan and Angus are great trainers, dont get me wrong. They treat you right and respect you, your time, and money. The owner Bob Mcadam on the other hand is apparently too greedy or too lazy to issue any sort of refund. I cancelled my membership because I was't getting good use of it, and a month after I was charged again for $30. I called, and as has been said on here already, staff are "not authorized" to issue a refund. He told me he would contact his boss who would send me an etransfer. I called twice, still no etransfer after weeks. Also, the "contact us" form on the website apparently sends your message directly into Mr. Mcadam's trash bin, because they don't respond to that either. I tried sending about 4 emails through there about different things.

Expérience fantastique: Angus and Nathan have been excellent trainers who are consistently focussed on helping members improve their skills while increasing and maintaining overall fitness. By far the best experience I’ve had at a gym.

Tina N. 4 years ago

Expérience négative: Nathan/ Angus are absolute gems. My experience dealing with them was very positive. However, what was less so, was, being called a 'scumbag' and treated disrespectfully by the owner when requesting a refund within 10 days of signing up. For all those unaware, BC's Consumer Protection act obliges any gym to refund your money in full, up-front, if you cancel within 10 days of receiving your contract. For work reasons, I was notified of a move within 1 week of signing up. When I brought this up to Angus, he quickly took action to issue discuss and request for the refund from Bob. While he did issue the refund, in a show of ultimate maturity and grace, Bob also made sure to leave some kind words in his email to me..

Expérience négative: My wife and I signed up for a year membership right before COVID hit. We pleaded for a refund, given the unfortunate circumstances... as we are definitely not comfortable going to a boxing gym during a pandemic. Nor would we be comfortable going anytime after the pandemic for quite some time. We told them that we'd definitely sign up again after the dust settles though, but we wouldn't feel safe for quite some time. In the meantime, could we please have a refund so our money isn't frozen in their system forever? They said they would "try" to give us a refund and they would call us in a month to work out the details. "Hang tight" and they'll "see what they can do". Of course, they never called back. I called many times afterward trying to track down anyone who could help. Apparently nobody who works there is "authorized" to issue a refund and the main guy is a phantom who doesn't ever return calls. Delay tactics... ignored. So we paid more than $2,000 between the two of us and we were only ever able to use the gym 3 times. Awesome. Let that be lesson to everyone else. They got our money. They win, we lose. Not their problem, I guess. Here's a pic of our boxing gloves that we bought after our 3rd session that we've never actually used.

Drake Stevenson 5 years ago

Expérience négative: The location of the gym is convenient and the prices are lower than other combat sport gyms throughout the Greater Vancouver Area. The equipment that they give you access to is top-notch. Unfortunately, that's all this place has to offer. The owner does an excellent job of marketing the gym as being a place for "real fighters", but it really is anything but that. He'll most likely try to sell the idea that he wants to run his gym seriously, but his actions don't line up with his spoken goals. The owner is belligerent and takes poorly to specific, in-depth questions about technique, positioning, timing, optimal foot placement, combinations, etc.. Don't expect to work on or improve critical skills like slipping, weaving, head positioning unless you're willing to hire a personal trainer and use the gym as a meeting place. I'm convinced that this man does more damage to his fighters than he does good. None of them develop adequate defensive abilities and rely on parrying and out-punching their opponents using stamina alone. The longer I spent at this gym, the more I suspected that the owner wasn't the elite coach that he makes himself out to be so, naturally, I left the gym and browsed the rest of the Lower Mainland to see what else was available. Of all the gyms I've attended since then, I can safely say that Sugar Rays is the worst. Hell, I even once saw the guy hit an attendee in the face because he wasn't performing up to his standards. The entire room went quiet and in order to divert attention from what he had just done, he rambled on about how he used to spar with world class contenders. A dubious claim to say the least.

Raed H 6 years ago

Expérience négative: The coaches are really friendly and knowledgeable, the atmosphere in the gym is also very good. However it's a bit small and it's very expensive. The real problem I faced with the gym was the payment method, which lead to an overall very bad experience. They will ask you to provide credit card details to charge on a bi-weekly basis. As far as I remember from the discussion I had with them that I wanted to start with 2 weeks only as a test, then I will carry on if I like it. I assumed I will be charged only once for the 2 weeks, but they carried on charging me every 2 weeks an amount of 99CAD!! Even though I stopped going to the gym, as it got really busy with work, travel and other commitments, I simply forgot about the whole thing. There might be mis-communication during the time I signed up, and it might be my fault for not verifying correctly, honestly I don't recall the exact details, it has been more than 2 months, But I am 100% sure that I was clear that I want to test for 2 weeks only in the beginning. But the fact that it keep charging continuously even though I didn't show up at all is really a bad experience for customers! And this was the only method to pay! And there was no notification sent to me during these 2 months (which is something other gyms do when customers stop showing up!) The worse part was actually this, when I figured out that they charged for the last 2 months, I emailed them to cancel the subscription immediately, I was told that this cannot be done over email or phone! And I have to go there in person as per terms and conditions! Well this made me ask myself; what if I was involved in accident, left the country, or simply passed away! This will make Sugar rays keep charging me until the credit card expire! Lesson learnt the hard way! Never every give credit card to anyone in this city (Sound Simple though) and if this is the only way to pay, then you are better finding another place. It sounded like they want any way to charge customers even when there was no service provided! Instead Sugarrays should seek to build trust relationship with customers.

K Robidoux 7 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Not really the type to put a review in, but there's some inaccuracies in the reviews some people are logging on here so here it goes: I was a member of Sugarrays for approximately 2ish years at the Kits location. As a disclaimer I am not a member currently, but that has to do with me moving an inconvenient commute away from both locations and a lack of time to commit to training at the time that i left, not to do with my time at the club itself. This is an OLD SCHOOL boxing club. This is not boxercise, it is not Steve Nash or Club 16, nor is it your local health spa. If one signs up for this club expecting to be pampered and babied, they will leave disappointed. If one signs up expecting to coast through training without being pushed to the limit, they will be disappointed. In my experience trainers here treat all members the same and put recreational members through the same workouts as their competing fighters, if they are willing to put the work in. For all the negativity i've seen on here about the owner Bob McAdam, i found him to be a valued mentor in the boxing game. If you listen, you will learn something (even if you need a little kick in the butt to get it down-pat!). Under his tutelage i myself was turned from a chubby 180lb fool who couldn't move his feet to being 20lbs lighter, twice as strong, half-coordinated with my footwork and packing a cracking left hook. In addition i found he was always willing to humor me and chat boxing at the end of sessions. If you are willing to listen and you're willing to work harder than you've ever worked before he will get you there. If you want to chit-chat, post on instagram and screw around in his club you will not last long and will find yourself writing 1-star reviews in no time.

Expérience fantastique: I have been attending since December 2017 and have enjoyed Sugar Rays since day one. Bob and Dane have been great and the recent convenience of 24/7 access to the gym is perfect. No excuses... The circuit training is perfect for getting into shape and the individual technical attention from top trainers is wonderful. I would definitely recommend it.

Jay P 7 years ago

Expérience fantastique: If you want to learn how to box for real then Sugar Rays is the place to do it. No classes or boxfit just old school one on one training. The training is tough but necessary. If your looking to get into the best shape of your life or want to compete, they can help you with both. Boxing here has changed the way I view health and fitness. The fight team training is so difficult that there is a puke bucket near by just in case you need to tap out. The trainers are patient and easy to work with. The owner is kind and overflowing with knowledge and stories about his life in boxing. Training here is always a highlight of my day that I look forward to.

David Gault 7 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Sugarrays is the best boxing club I've ever been to. Most boxing clubs are all about big classes, but sugarrays is a boxing gym in the classic sense. The individual attention you get each day makes the boxing experience a progression based on fundamentals. The best part is the edge the place has, and how everyone is treated equally. Doesn't matter if you are a professional or just starting out. The staff treats everyone the same and will go above and beyond to help you achieve your goals. It is also an excellent place to meet like minded people and have a laugh. I needed something else in my life and Sugarrays was the answer. They just introduced 24 hour access too!

I am very grateful of the standard that's maintained at Sugarrays, and look forward to spending the rest of my life training here!!

Top notch - coach was inviting, friendly, and knowledgeable (I currently have a shoulder injury from rugby but I watched the session. I've trained in MMA, BJJ, Judo, and TDK - while I'm still a beginner as well I could tell the coach actually knew what he was talking about.) Everyone had a blast and got a great workout in. Expérience fantastique: At 35 years old and tired of the classic gym routine I've been doing for years, I needed a change. I joined sugars not knowing anything about the sport, except it will require hard work, dedication and some blue collar grit. I have all of that so I figured let's give it a go. This place, sugars, gives me a run for it every time I go. You get out what you put in. Here they train you the right way, technique and foundations first. Stamina and conditioning raining here is top the list with the technical side of things. I've never worked harder at a gym, and these guys make to want to earn it and burn it baby! Aside all of the equipment, all the great boxers of all athletic abilities... the coaches/trainers and smart, willing and eager to train and push you too your limits. I'm so glad I found this new style of training. I love it and will continue to push my limits here as long as the Jody can take it! Class act gym and people all round. Reviews are reviews, you really just need to give it a shot!

Expérience négative: Didn't even get a chance to train!! So I went to check it out, try out for the day. See how I like it.. NOPE! Aren't even allowed to do that. In over 10yrs of training (martial arts, muay Thai etc) I've never once (til now) seen a place you can't even try out for a day. Most places do a week, some even a month. I even offered to pay drop in. Which they don't have... just pay membership.. if you don't like it.. or hours don't work out.. I guess too bad? Silly to me this business practice. Now the place seemed nice.. I didn't see any heavy bags.. enough double ended, speed, medium sized bags. Alas I don't know what it's like to hit them there. Hopefully that changes in the future.

Serje, We have a policy of not doing drop ins as they have been linked to clubs laundering money, this policy has been in place for 12 years. We are one of very few clubs listed Police friendly. I checked, you had the option to join and if it wasn't a good fit obtain a pro rated refund. We train elite fighters at the club and they all paid to be members. A one star review simply because you cant obtain free use of the gym....Wow I have never once asked for a free trial at a boxing gym - is there a ring, bags, timer ok lets go. After “ten” years are you still unable to recognize and make a decision on a real boxing gym, we train recreational, club, national and international fighters. The equipment is the best available, often custom made. Robert McAdam Sugarrays

Expérience fantastique: I travel from Australia to train at Sugarrays. I've formed a great relationship with the owner of the gym. Bob. He is extremely friendly and has been a huge supporter of me. Along with that all the staff there I am pleased to call them my friends and they are extremely helpful in every aspect of my training. The attention to detail at Sugarrays is second to none. Expert trainers Sean and Zoltan are expert level trainers and they get the best out of everyone. They will leave you never regretting a workout. Everyone at the gym is extremely friendly and the environment is that of a true boxing gym. I highly recommend this gym no matter the level you are at. It's built for getting into shape or fighting. Whatever your desire you will get it at Sugarrays!!

Expérience fantastique: I joined Sugarrays on September 2016. I had no experience in boxing what so ever. My first coach Sean helped me so much on my basic foot/hip movement. My stamina/strength improved as well. 3 months in and I started training with Bob and the fight team. Bob is just phenominal in the way he pushes all of us. These coaches at Sugarrays pay a lot of attention to everyone at the gym and make sure every member are improving by the daily basis. Deffinately recommend this gym to beginners who want to fight, like myself, but also to people who want to just get fit. If you have some prior experience, you will most deff. Will feel welcome as well!

Expérience négative: If you want a REAL & HONEST review of this so called "boxing gym" just keep reading... Let me first start by saying, my username is made up. The people at sugarrays have no idea who I really am. So if they try to say stuff like "He was kicked out of the gym" or.. "He was never a member and this is just another competing gym trying to ruin us", don't believe it. They always say this kind of thing when they get a bad review. I WAS a real paying member. The truth is, this gym is a total SCAM. You will never be taught how to actually box here. They just want to con you so you sign up and pay. Once you do that...you are screwed. (No 2 or 4 week trial period available. Only a one day trial class available, so they can quickly talk you into joining. Hmmm. Suspicious.. don't you think?!) I bought a membership with this gym around 6 years ago when they were located on Granville Street. At that time I paid $300 for a one year membership. I attended about 3 to 4 times a week for about 6 months. And what did I learn about actual proper boxing? NOTHING! This gym is happy to take overpriced fees from you, but if you have no desire to compete, or you are too old or un-athletic to do so, they figure, what's the point in wasting their time teaching you how to actually box. This gym has a bunch of very slick ways to entice/con people to join. They try to play into peoples romantic fantasies of the old-school gritty boxing gyms of the 1930's, with their old style leather skipping ropes and framed black&white photos of old pro boxers from a bygone era up on their walls. What a joke! They also like to boast about having the best equipment and bags. But, in reality, all you need for proper boxing training is the heavy bag, along with FOCUS MITT TRAINING, actual coaching, and sparring drills/sparring. That's all you need to learn! The "best equipment" and "largest selection of punching bags" will NOT make you a better boxer. But their biggest draw is their claim of "Instruction starts when you arrive". People think to themselves.. "Wow, it's like I can make my own schedule! I won't have to rush home and make dinner quickly after work and then try to make it in for a start time, I can just go in when it suits me!" Let me tell you, there is NO instruction at all. When I was a member, this is what "instruction" was like.. You start skipping rope for a bit, then you grab a floor mat and the instructor puts you through this harsh body weight exercise routine to the point of collapse and extreme lower back pain. After that, the instructor tells you to go hit the bags on your own, and then go home. What did I learn about real boxing there? Absolutely NOTHING! It was obviously designed this way so you get frustrated and quit to make room for a new batch of suckers that pay money for no real boxing training. Not once in my 6... yes SIX! months of training there did they ever offer FOCUS MITT TRAINING, which is CRUCIAL for learning real boxing. Their excuse for this is usually.. "You need to learn how to move and punch with balance first". This is just a lame excuse so they can ignore the recreational boxers. So that was a bunch of years ago that I was a member. Lets skip ahead to today. I walked into the Kits location on West 3rd Ave recently to see if anything has changed? Not at all, Still the same old hustle. If you don't have the desire or ability to compete and make money for them, they will NEVER teach you anything. Don't even bother with this dishonest gym. My advice is to check out Powercore (east van), Contenders (downtown), or Griffins (north van). All 3 of these gyms will teach EVERYONE how to actually box... even the recreational boxers. I've seen it with my own eyes. Don't believe me? Go see for yourself..Visit all 4 gyms, including sugarrays (just don't listen to their BS sales pitch if you visit them), and watch what goes on. You'll see exactly what I'm talking about. I've listed 3 much better (separate) gyms to prove I have no affiliation with any of them. Just pick one.. the choice is yours. I hope this helps. Cheers

Sugarrays Boxing
Sugarrays Boxing

Wow! Had you been a member you would know that we have NEVER HELD CLASSES. We work directly with our members to develop their boxing. We take great pride in being recognized as a center of excellence. All members receive the highest level of technical training available in BC! We are home to the best fighters, instructors and equipment in the Province, possibly the Country. All our instructors have their own mitts BUT there is simply no point getting people to hit mitts if they cannot move properly. We first teach our students to move and punch. Gyms that rush members onto mits only remove any chance that they will be effective, boxing is about transferring weight with balance. We do offer monthly memberships as advertised on our website. Due to the inaccuracy of this review (classes, mitt work, memberships) it is safe to assume you are a competitor and not a ex member. Sugarrays is a natural target, we are the most successful and biggest boxing gym on the west coast of Canada, the reviews is untrue and very unfair,

Expérience fantastique: I travel up from America just to go to this gym. You can't beat the training and the circuit is everything you need to kick your own ass into the best shape of your life! I found owner Bob as well as the trainers to be absolutely welcoming, fun, and very knowledgeable. I definitely feel it was worth the $ to choose this as my fitness environment.

Expérience fantastique: I am a new comer to Boxing and found out about Sugarrays online, so I decided to check them out. Not only is the equipment amazing, the staff at the club are incredible and willing to push you to get better. It has a great community feeling and people of all skill levels are absolutely welcome. I know that I will be a member for a long time. They are soon opening another gym located in New West, so check that out too if you live out that way. I can't recommended Sugarrays enough, come check them out for yourselves!

Expérience fantastique: Super helpful and experienced trainers with a inviting atmosphere. This is a real boxing gym, so no spandex or fake nails. The gym can cater to anyone's skill or drive, so even if your just starting out or looking to go pro, Bob and his staff can help you reach your goals. The best part is the great yearly rates. If you are looking to get fit, then look no where else.

Expérience positive: Super helpful trainers always willing to help if you ask. Bob has created a great community with the interest of boxing in mind. He accommodates the new and pushes the experienced. If you have the drive and patience to take on a new skill this is a great place. Practice and repetition are the focus of any driven individual and these are incorporated in the gym philosophy. The prices are too shabby either.

Expérience négative: Went there for 2 years. Was good when you could at the Granville place you could go when Bob wasn't there or at night. But then he moved to kits and scammed a bunch of people of their yearlong memberships don't box here it used to be 300$a year

Expérience fantastique: Really Great Gym, great environment and culture. Coaching staff are really helpful and so are the other members, you learn really quickly and feel like you're making real progress. Its an amazing and economical value at 700 for a year, other gyms charge a lot more for a lot less(speaking from personal experience). I would recommend this gym and Bob for its overall great value!!!!!

Expérience fantastique: Let me start with a little disclaimer. I have not been offered a free t-shirt to write this review. Sugar rays boxing gym and the owner Bob are absolutely fantastic in every fashion, I have yet to witness thus far. I joined the club a few weeks ago, after being told I could take a quick walk around to see if the gym was up to my standards. Not only did it meet my standards, of what a gym of this sort should be, it exceeded them by leaps and bounds. The first thing I noticed was that it smelled good in there. It didn't just not stink, it smelled really good. That and the equipment is all pretty well brand new and kept in amazing shape by Bob, and all of the patrons of the gym. Beyond just the cosmetic appearance of the gym, I've found that literally every negative review about Bob is an absolute farce, and that the folks who've written are either lazy, disrespectful, wastes of human skin, or other club owners trying to scare people away from this gym. Bob is an incredibly warm, and friendly individual, who will joke around and tease you a little bit, but is far from mean at all. And frankly if you can't handle a gentle teasing you probably shouldn't partake in a sport that involves punching people anyways. He also knows boxing inside and out and preaches a lot of hard work and great footwork. The man even takes time to work with you one on one, and shows you everything you need to know. What else can I say about this place. I love the owner, I love that patrons, I love the environment, I'm learning A LOT, and I'm getting the best workouts I've ever had. You can't really ask for more out of a gym.

Expérience négative: BEWARE OF BOB! I have nothing against the assistant coaches, staff or gym members. However Bob is a real piece of work. When you meet him, he is seemingly polite, respectful and knowledgeable in regards to the importance of footwork and boxing fundamentals However that's were it ends. The moment your money changes hand. Bob turns in to a loudmouthed bully with little knowledge of teaching you real footwork/boxing fundamentals. However don't take my word for it and if you feel you must check the gym out, do so with only agreeing for one month of training instead of paying money upfront for a extended period of time. This way you get a feel for the place yourself and develop your own personal opinion of the gym. Also, if you are in downtown and are looking for a gym be it recreational or fitness, check out either eastside boxing, action boxing (Astoria hotel) or contenders. All three have both recreational and competitive programs. Do try all three of them and see which fits your needs. Best of luck to everyone.

Expérience fantastique: Sugarrays is an excellent place to learn and practice boxing. As a fellow owner of a martial arts gym I can say without reservation that Bob has the highest standards in terms of both his physical facility and his instruction. Like any business Sugarrays has to deal with suspicious reviews such as that left by Dan Diesel (who incidentally poorly reviewed my school as well, and certainly does not seem to have been a student at either school). As someone who is very familiar with the demands of running a successful martial arts school, I can assure you that Sugarrays is properly-run, professional, clean, welcoming, and well worth your time to check out. Expérience fantastique: Nothing tops this place. New to boxing, started at Sugarrays about 3 months ago. In the best shape of my life now thanks to the coaches. The guys seem to take a real serious approach to safety and are proactive about avoiding injuries. Bob (owner) is a amazing ambassador of the sport and is in the gym most days. The coaches on staff are a good mix. Very friendly and always willing to work as hard as you do. The members of the gym are quite friendly and from all walks of life. Gym is incredibly clean and constantly upgrading equipment.

Expérience négative: First thing first, Bob gives people free tshirt if they write a good review on google. Second of all, he is a fraud and a low life who takes your money and starts insulting people. That's Bobs idea of training people. Yell and scream without providing boxing instruction. Any boxing gym is better than Bobs gym. To be specific, I trained at the Granville location and although Shawn the assistant trainer was polite and welcoming. Bob would always go around and throw insults for no reason. Regarding Mehdi/KB Ones comments, I trained at your place many years ago the reason I decided to comment was the bad stuff I was hearing as of late so I decided to share my experience and I did so by giving a reason as oppose to just throwing insults. Its funny how you are recommending Bobs gym even though you know nothing about Bobs teaching method (lack of) or what kind of person he is.

Tony Huang 10 years ago

Expérience négative: Worst owner humanly possible, facility is nice, most coaches are nice but nothing is enough to make the owner look good. Terrible attitude, runs around calling people names and ignorantly uses a lot of racial/ homophobic slurs. Terrible place. They offer free T shirts for anyone who comes on google and posts something good on google review though. Bob couldn't convince me to write a good review for him even if he offered me a free car for doing it. Walk away, don't look back, you won't regret it.

Expérience fantastique: I'd always been told that I had a lot of potential in my life, which sadly went unnoticed, up until I began training at Sugar Ray's(best decision I've ever made). With the hands- on, one to one training I've received from each of the supremely adequate training family, I've been able to find the appropriate regimen that maximizes my performance and strengthens the body and mind. At SugarRay's, I'm confident the sky is not even a limit for my boxing career and life beyond. Definitely worth more than the dollar a day pricetag!

sunil mishra 10 years ago

Expérience fantastique: I've been to one training class since I joined Sugar Rays. I've played sports all my life and always felt for the most part I've been in pretty good shape. That first class was so intense I realized I could use a lot more work. I wanted to go back the very next day infact, however I decided to give it a couple days and let my body recuperate so I could get the most out of my next training session. I strongly recommend Sugar Rays for anyone who would like to stay physically and mentally at the top their game. Bob my trainer guided me through the entire process like a professional coach/trainer would to an athlete. I can't wait for my next session!

Expérience fantastique: I have been training at Sugar Rays for about 3 weeks and I love it. We have spent the first 2 weeks building up conditioning and are now moving into footwork. Both Bob and Peter have been giving me guidance and motivation to push myself. The Gym has lots of equipment and really utilizes the space. Every time I have gone there has been more then enough room to train. I would highly recommend this gym if you want to train in an awesome environment while having a support team to help you accomplish your goals.

Expérience fantastique: iv been training at sugar rays for years its an awesome gym to train at, they teach you the basics then its open gym and you work out and train at your own pace witch is great because whenever you want to learn more advanced boxing techniques just ask any of the coachs and they will show you and you just keep on working on whatever you want. great atmosphere and friendly members so easy to just ask any of the memeber if they want to train together or hop in the ring and spar, love it

Expérience fantastique: It's a great gym whether you have experience with the sport or are just starting out. They have everything you need from heavy bags to barbells to climbing ropes. The trainers are always available to help push you, teach you new techniques, show you how to use the equipment, and add variety to your workouts to keep things fresh. The owner, Bob, is also constantly looking for ways to improve the gym and welcomes feedback from clients. It's a fantastic place and the value and price cannot be beaten!

Expérience fantastique: I have been going to this gym since May and I have nothing buy good things to say about it. It's a great change from the typical fitness world with challenging workouts that have a mix of cardio, endurance, and some weights. Definitely would recommend checking out if you live in kits!
