I feel like my kids always learn something new, and I don't mean just Capoeira moves, this school is about much more! All the teachers are great! Energy is incredible and very inspiring! I even joined a class downstairs with Bia and love it!

Expérience négative: I joined the group recently and due to my busy work schedule, I had to discontinue after 1 class. I gave my account number and bought clothes for my son for which I didn’t pay. Christine messaged me for the payment. I told about my situation and told her that due to hectic work schedule, I will come on November 10, 2024 and return my son’s clothes which we didn’t use at all. She called and said she can’t wait until November so do it asap. To calm her I said I will send everything by next week and do etransfer. Actually, I wanted to go personally and apologize for this but she was became impatience and called me at 10:00 pm in the night. Today, she called me 7 to 8 times continuously at work. I told her why you are calling like this so she said you have to pay or I will take you to the credit bureau. I said I can’t talk right now and she said no you have to do it. I put down the phone and started to call back. I had to block her number as it was distracting my work. She was really bad and rude. Calling 10:00 at night and harassing at work, is this discipline you teach your kids. You threatened me that I can do anything to get my stuff back. I am so much disappointed. I suggest everyone to be careful with them.

Expérience fantastique: Capoeira is a martial art that I wanted to learn since I was a child. The fluidity of the capoeiristas, the drumming and the singing, and the resilience of the enslaved (and freed) Africans in Brasil that gave rise to this form of martial arts; these were all elements that left me in awe. But I never felt as if I could learn capoeira. I'd never participated in any organized sporting activity since I was a child, so of course I didn't think I could ever learn any of the moves used in capoeira. But I was wrong! I ended up seeing an ad on my Instagram about a free trial being offered by Capoeira Bamba and I decided to give it a shot and sign up. Words can't begin to describe how glad I am that I came across that ad and that I actually followed through with it. From the jump, Christine, who is a co-owner/manager of Capoeira Bamba, was simply so kind, welcoming, open to questions, and truly a delight to talk to. She's a wonderful ball of energy. I was extremely nervous for my first class, but the accepting and welcoming environment I found myself in immediately alleviated my fears. My fellow learners are so kind and easy to talk to! Paraíba, one of the main instructors and the co-owner, gives clear instructions, is highly knowledgeable, is very approachable, and is more than willing to show anyone who is having trouble executing a maneuver/move how to do so as many times as necessary. I rarely ever write Google Reviews, but I hope that this review reaches someone who has always been wanting to give capoeira a try, but didn't know where to start. Start (and stay) at Capoeira Bamba. I literally practice the moves I learn from class when I'm at home. I dream about capoeira and how I want to advance in our belt system. I actually stretch at home now, which is something my mom has never seen me do. I'm actually passionate/interested in something, which is rare for me. I hope to see you there!!

Expérience fantastique: I started training here almost two years ago, after starting to learn Capoeira in the UK. When we moved to Toronto, we looked for a place to train and to find community. Bamba was the clear choice in the city. The first thing to know about Bamba is that it is a labour of love. Paraiba and Nenem eat, sleep and breathe Bamba, and their dedication to the school, to their students and to capoeira is inspiring. This spirit is clearly infectious. Bamba feels like a giant family, with members - from small children to older folks and everywhere in between - all committed/obsessed with this amazing culture, sport, dance, music etc. If you're thinking about learning capoeira (and you should!) or searching for a place in Toronto to continue your training, look no further.

Expérience fantastique: All good things for Bamba! Whenever someone asks for a good activity for a little kid, I immediately recommend capoeira. My kid has been part of the Bamba family for almost 2 years and its been such a joy. They sing, they dance, they play drums, they do acrobatics. It’s got it all! It is a great activity and they teach all the good values and the beautiful Brazilian culture. We are still learning, but when i see the older kids they’re all stellar. My 5year old aspires to be like them one day. They’re all such good role models. If you don’t mind your kid replacing walking with cart wheeling, I say Bamba Toronto is for you!

From the beginning we were welcomed into a tight knit community of adults and children of all ages. There is a vibrant social aspect to training here that makes new people feel welcomed and supported.

Expérience fantastique: [ADULT FEMALE, FIRST-TIME VISITOR, W/ NO EXPERIENCE ] The Class: My first class was fantastic. I was offered a free trial at the Toronto location. I was incredibly anxious going into it, but as soon as I was greeted by the staff, my fears slowly slipped away. They were very encouraging, helpful, and patient. If you arrive 15 mins early, you'll be given a quick tour of the grounds and shown a Ginga demo and be given the opportunity to quickly practise the Ginga movements before having to do it during class. What I really appreciated was the extra attention us newcomers were given. The class is quite mixed level, but the teacher came around to the new people often and gave us easier movements to practise. Experience: If you do acrobatics, dancing, aerial or any strength training, it'll set you up to have an "easier" first time experience into Capoeira. Music: The music and singing at the end of the class by the instructor was such a pleasant surprise. I don't know if this happens every class, or if that day was special, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching the "closing" ceremony to the class. I highly recommend trying out this establishment. It's super family friendly as well. I even saw a mother-son duo attending separate classes. Really cool. Thank you Paraiba!

Expérience fantastique: I began training at Bamba about ~2yrs ago when I was 38 as a complete beginner in capoeira. I was hesitant to try it at first thinking it was beyond my physical abilities, and at that time I was completely out of shape not doing any physical activity for many years, but I was wrong! Capoeira is genuinely for every body, it can be scaled to meet any fitness level, you’d be surprised! I tried it and never looked back, now at my 40s I feel stronger than ever. I enjoy Capoeira because it is lot of fun and a fantastic workout for body and mind. The music accompanying the class is beautiful and helped me flow through the movements and sequences. The teachers warmed up the class well and gave excellent guidance. I’ve already experienced improvements in my strength, flexibility, mobility, and overall athleticism. =) Mestre Paraiba is really an ideal person to learn from, he’s highly experienced, attentive and caring. He strives to make sure everyone remains safe, yet challenged and engaged with the task at hand. He creates a positive, supportive environment and emphasizes the community aspect of capoeira. Frankly, that’s been one of my favourite parts. You'll laugh a lot too and have fun training with everybody. I’ve met tons of great people that became friends and family, I couldn’t have asked for anything more. My kids (7 and 5 yrs old) have been practicing Capoeira at Bamba and love it! Mostly because of Instructora Nenem, she is amazing with kids and delivers a quality that is admirable. My youngest started capoeira being super shy, now he is more confidence and a little louder too, I also find funny that my 2 kids show off their capo skills everywhere they go. =) Conveniently located, plenty of parking (if you go to the school parking lot), clean establishment, gym equipments, and teachers that really make sure you’re safe and learning every step of the way! I can't recommend this place enough.

Expérience fantastique: I was looking for an extra curricular for my kid when I realized there's Capoeira Bamba! I am one of M. Paraiba's student in 2007-2011 but took a long hiatus because life happened. Fast forward to now, my kid is very excited to come to class to see her teachers & enjoys the lessons. She was able to watch kids her age with amazing capoeira skills she can emulate, learn a new language thru capoeira songs (our car rides are now capoeira songs on repeat!) & get interested in playing instruments. It's a well-rounded activity for kids! The capoeira obsession has come full circle! I am glad we decided to settle in to capoeira, I even tried the beginners class to check my rust level! The new facility is beautiful, in a perfect location, open concept, neatly organized - love the sign in option for students & the progress tracker cards! I was so happy & proud to meet old friends who are still actively training & see the years of hard work & passion M. Paraiba, I. Nenem & the entire team put in coming into fruition. The amount of students increased, especially the kids who are incredibly talented - a testament of dedication & commitment Team Bamba is all about. Expérience négative: This club doest teach well. My children went 1 year, but nothing changed. Also be careful about their policy payment. They get money right away for trial and they first mone when you start On the other hand when you wanna cancel they say we must inform 30-35 days before. Also before year compeleted they can increase amount of monthly payment. They don't need to get consent of you. If you give your card knowledge this is big fault. Also they never informed before me about their policy. It is interesting. How can you inform before 30-35 days. If you decide not to go you don't go. I informed that we would not go to course prior Month, but they continued cutting money. They like money and they don't teach well. This is not useful course. This is my real experience. I wanna share with you. Refrain from these course. Unknown payment policies. They didn't inform you and they just cut money in your credict car. Be careful!!!!!

Expérience fantastique: I love this place. The Bamba family have created something really special. I feel it most through the sights and sounds of kids and adults playing long after class finishes. My favourite things: The vibrancy and beauty of the academy The tons of classes to choose from Great value membership Fun / dynamic / intentional lessons Watching the senior students encourage and take care of the new (especially through the "roda") As well as the access to all the tools to improve: from personalised improvement cards, to exercise equipment and instruments, to a giant inflatable tumbling mat, to the freedom to come and stay a long while Mestrando Paraiba & Instrutora Nenem have poured their entire selves into the academy. Together, they bring a lot of joy and heart to the place, instilling a real sense of family. I would be remiss not to add a personal note: I briefly trained with Paraiba decades ago when he was 16. I remember he was very highly regarded as a teen, also quiet and thoughtful. Following the Bamba story since then has been endearing: as Paraiba built-up an academy with his wife Nenem, became a father, chose to branch off into his own group, instilled a culture of family, overcame adversity (including the sudden loss of the old beloved space), and bounced back with a lot of hardwork and help from his community and fellow academies. I feel those values, that drive and those moment-to-moment choices are a backbone to the academy. Everything about its story - from its origins, to the gorgeous designs, to the dynamic/artful approach to playing, to the intention around family, to the sea of kids who attend each day - feels very inspired and makes it all the more enriching to be a part of it.

Expérience fantastique: Casa de Bamba is a vibrant space filled with incredible people and good good vibes! Classes are always different and as challenging as you'd like. The whole modality offers an immersive experience for everyone and a superb alternative to other movement arts or extra curricular for kids.

Expérience fantastique: Some of you may have never tried Capoeira (or a martial arts class) before, and may have gotten a recommendation from a co-worker or friend to try it for a variety of reasons. I don't think there's any better place to do that than Capoeira Bamba! The beginning or start to any new hobby or activity is always the toughest, since you're never sure if you can do something or if you'll like it. I came in with 0 martial arts experience and loved to dance, so naturally I wasn't sure if I could do it. It didn't come easy to me at all but thankfully when you start at Bamba, there is a very strong community to give you a boost and support. Everyone has been in the same spot as you and they know it's tough, so they can all relate. Mestrando Paraiba and all the students have been lovely for a first timer. Higher belt members (and Mestrando Paraiba himself) have always been there to give me a little more encouragement or walk me through a move, and with a good attitude and patience. It has been the same for several newcomers who entered the class just after me, so I can tell Capoeira Bamba is a welcoming and nurturing space for all. There are a good balance of classes between beginners, mixed, acrobatics, martial arts and even children's classes - so you are bound to find something that appeals to you. I always feel like I have gotten my value out of every class (and in most cases - more than it). Events are also organized and hosted for anyone who wants to get some additional lessons, experiences or training. Capoeira has been great for me because it pushes me, mentally and physically, while giving me goals and something to focus on or center myself. It challenges what your strengths are, has you work on weaknesses, and it also teaches you patience. I know what the big picture of all the classes and and there is a road to get there. There may be days that are harder than others, but you still want to come back and try again because you know you can get there. So, if you're curious, or just want to challenge yourself, come out to Capoeria Bamba. You're going to work hard, but you won't regret it! In fact, you'll probably love it.

Expérience fantastique: I’ve been training at Mestando Paraíba’s academy for years, since before he made the huge decision to branch out on his own, founding Capoeira Bamba. THE GROUP: Capoeira Bamba is the only capoeira group that offers classes six days a week. There is a friendly, energetic, and supportive vibe; everyone is welcome – regardless of skill or fitness level. I’m a queer, middle-aged woman of colour. Although capoeira is often known to be a ‘macho’ and intimidating martial art, I feel at home at Capoeira Bamba. There are members from all walks of life and we get along swimmingly. Many of the students make fast friends and hang out or practice outside of class. THE INSTRUCTORS: Mestrando Paraíba: Training since the age of 12, Mestrando Paraíba is a skilled and experienced capoeirista. As an instructor and mentor, I’ve seen him grow leaps and bounds over the last several years – both in wisdom and methodology. Although he hails from an incredibly strict and rigid training background, M. Paraíba strives to offer autonomy and flexibility to his students. He often demonstrates modified exercises to accommodate the needs of different students. He listens to feedback and takes it to heart. While he admits, teaching children was not always his strong suit, he has really come into his own. I’ve seen him teach several children’s classes and the kids LOVE him. He strikes the perfect balance between structure and fun. Great behaviour management and anti-bullying strategies, too. I’ll admit, sometimes M. Paraíba can come across as a bit intimidating, but he has a big heart, always giving it his all and cracking a funny joke here and there! He is such an excellent, well-rounded instructor with just the right amount of toughness to get you motivated. Instrutora Neném: What can I say? Instrutora Neném is a ray of sunshine! She is bubbly, kind, warm, and hilarious; but don’t let that distract from the fact that she is an accomplished capoeirista and instructor who kicks some serious butt! Her teaching style is easygoing and she breaks down moves in a way that a toddler can understand — speaking of which, she is amazing at teaching little ones! As a former elementary teacher, I can appreciate how Neném effectively differentiates instruction and holds kids’ attention. THE ACADEMY: The academy is the most beautiful capoeira facility I have ever seen. It is one of the only spaces dedicated entirely to capoeira. During the transition to becoming Capoeira Bamba, many students pitched in to help renovate the space. There is a definite sense of pride and ownership we feel towards it. The interior consists of beautiful dark, hardwood floors; a feature logo wall with hand-burned details, a funky graffiti accent wall by a local artist; and large, full-sized mirrors along most walls. Some of the equipment includes free weights, strength training and conditioning equipment, a heavy bag, a variety of martial arts pads and targets, gymnastics equipment, a large, inflatable gymnastics pad, etc. There is too much to list! Attendance is tracked by a barcode scanning system. Those with top attendance can win free private lessons from M. Paraíba.

I’ve never experienced such professional, passionate and high-quality classes! The way they introduce the fundamentals of capoeira and showcase the Brazilian Martial Art + Culture while bringing people together is both inspiring and unique. They not only teach the art of capoeira, offering graduations for each level, but they infuse the values of friendship, respect, discipline, commitment, determination, and consistency through their teachings.

My son loves Capoeira, and definitely changed my son’s life. Expérience fantastique: Simply the best studio in the city! Had the pleasure of seeing them perform at the Brazilian festival and it is beautiful to see the amount of effort and joy after the show, let alone the amazing community they had built over the years.

Expérience négative: Terrible and toxic are the nicest words that can be used to describe the environment of bamba. The lead instructor para suffers from little man syndrome and the owners son is a nuisance to everyone who trains at the gym. They play favorites and nepotism runs rampant. There wouldn't be half as many 5 star reviews here if they didn't pressure their students to leave 5 star reviews. Even nene the head instructions wife had to leave a glowingly false positive review to negate the truth that would come out if they let the reviews flow naturally.

Didn't even know how to do a somersault, didn't matter I still participated on belt evaluations and public events. I will always remember this stage of my life. Expérience fantastique: One of the best decisions I made in my almost 40y was to google Capoeira and realize my childhood dream of doing capoeira. And thanks to the reviews I ended up at Bamba Academy a couple of years ago. Since then, it’s become a part of our family with the Saturdays ritual of taking my daughter first to her class, hang around in the vibrant neighbourhood, then do my class. The schedules of classes were so broad that enables almost everyone to find a time that suits them to show up. Bamba has probably the most time options around the world among capoeira schools without exaggeration. I just learned that as we moved and I was looking into other schools in different cities. The community is also very beautiful. Nenem herself is an amazing pillar of it. She opens the door of the academy to everyone with a big smile and makes you feel welcomed. Paraiba himself is a great inspiration as he has put his whole life and energy into this place. They’ve also been organizing many events and encourage you to participate outside so you won’t ever stop growing here. Physically and mentally, and even socially.

Expérience fantastique: Capoeira Bamba is not only the best Capoeira school, it is also one of the best sport academy that I have seen. Clean, well equipped, and beautiful with a lot of space to train. Classes are going on every day, which is very important to adapt your training with you personal day depending of the week. Mestre Paraiba is very knowledgeable and motivating. Christine is super helpful and sympathetic. The more experienced students are nice humble people, and always help the beginners like me. So no worries, none is going to kick you on your first day, maybe after the second day only...hahaha! The academy is a bit far from my home, however, I always feel happy to have taken the time to go. Do not think it over and give it a try! They also have clases in Mississauga. Thank you Capoeira Bamba!

Expérience fantastique: I've trained with Paraiba for about 2 months now, after taking a break of about 11 years. Speaking truthfully, I've never trained under someone with so much passion for what he does. Mestrando Paraiba is very knowledgeable about his craft, and his focus on teaching his students to bring out the best in themselves is incredibly valuable. His students with higher belts have always taken time to help the newer members understand the mechanics of the moves, and always encourage you to try your best and not to give up. Capoeira is not easy by any means and there are so many levels of skill that it can be overwhelming, and intimidating. but it's important to remember that the people you see doing these moves have worked hard, tried, and failed repeatedly before being able to perform them. If you're willing to step out of a comfort zone and put in the hard work, anyone with any skill set can get involved in this amazing experience, improve on themselves, and be apart of an amazing community of like minded people who are there to support, encourage and challenge one another. Expérience fantastique: I started training here after having my second baby , as a fun way to get back in shape. Nine years later , my daughters , my husband , my brother and friends have joined me in this infectious martial arts . Great training facility with amazing teachers that are always improving and finding ways to keep students engaged/motivated. Their passion for this Brazilian martial art is contagious . Not only will you get in shape , you will be expose to an array of Capoeira culture , which include singing in Portuguese, the history of Capoeira, drumming, samba , machete fighting(Maculele) ....and so much more . Once you step inside you will see and feel a great sense of community amongst teachers, students and parents. Give it try and you will not regretted!!!

They have taught my girls self confidence, respect for themselves and others - as they learn the different acrobatics, martial arts moves, music, language, self defense & dance that is Capoeira. Expérience fantastique: Highly recommend! I've been interested in capoeira for years, but for various reasons, I have struggled to commit to training on an ongoing basis. As such, I've joined, then paused, then re-joined Capoeira Bamba. Each time, they have been welcoming and supportive. This family-run business has gone above and beyond through the CoVid pandemic to move all of their classes online, never compromising on the quality of instruction and class offerings. As someone who has dabbled in various martial arts over the past twenty years, if you've ever been interested in Capoeira, or even in martial arts more generally, this is the place I would recommend above all others.

Over three different instructors, two for capoeira and one for samba, I found they were passionate about their trade, managed classes efficiently, and provided personal attention for various levels of student experience. Communication outside of class was prompt & friendly. Club is clean and inviting.

Expérience fantastique: I started training here in 2010/2011 and regardless of what martial arts I am I interested in, or where life takes me, I always have reason to come back to Bamba for these reasons: top teachers in the city, drama free family feel environment, great classes, same faces for years, huge facility to train in, up to date equipment, and the best place to learn Capoeira in Canada. If you've never been here, you really need to visit this place! I recommend this place for every age group from 3 years old to any age!!!

Expérience négative: There is no organization at all, adult people lay down eating on the floor on the waiting room, clothes shoes everywhere too many kids for class first time there, checking the place for my daughter in the neighborhood, very bad experience i dont recommend this place at all. Expérience fantastique: Wow! Highly recommended!! These classes are SO much fun, and you meet so many wonderful people!! The instructors are so kind and welcoming. I went as a complete beginner, and I'm learning so much and having a great time. The studio is beautiful and there are lots of convenient classes to choose from. This is one of the best things I've done all year. SO much fun.

Expérience positive: The teachers are experienced, but the service is poor and in general there isn't good communication between the staff ant he students. I took a few classes here and the teaching quality is reasonable, but one time I showed up on time for the 7:15 class, but wasn't allowed to join it, because the staff questioned me for a few minutes until it was about 7:16, and it was too late to join it (The instructor was still sitting at the desk, asking me questions, not yet teaching). They were also not OK with me paying after the class (which I'd done before with no problem), and insisted that I pay before. I felt quite annoyed by the situation, as you would be if you were told to wait 45 minutes for another class (intermediate, and I'm only a beginner). All in all, I feel that they are quite focused on teaching the sport but do not really want to interact with their customers beyond that, which detracts from the atmosphere of the place. They should be OK with people coming 5 minutes before a 45 minute class, too.

I especially like that they speak both Portuguese and English which is good for those who cant particularly speak English too well. Literally no complains. Expérience fantastique: I am visiting capoeirista from Europe (Capoeira BeijaFlor Lisboa) with several years of Capoeira experience. One month ago I arrived in Toronto and decided to start training with mestrando Paraiba and his Axe Capoeira Toronto group. I am really happy about my choice. The quality and intensity of the training are really high, both for advanced and beginner students. Mestrando Paraiba and all the Axe Capoeira Toronto group are really friendly and they made me feel home even if I'm a visiting student from another group. There are classes 6 days per week at different hours and the training encompass all the aspects of Capoeira (Martial art training, Music, Acrobatics, Afro-Brasilian culture). They also have really nice kid classes that kids enjoy a lot. Thanks to Paraiba and the group to let me join your training and to make me feel home. Marreta
