Expérience fantastique: I brought my teenage son and his friends here, and they had a wonderful time challenging each other with the many climbing options. The Jive is well built, clean, and organized. It has many climbing options and challenges for people of all levels. It has a friendly staff and community, making it family-friendly as well. Safety is important here, which can be seen through the staff and the large clean mattresses around all the climbing walls. The prices are a little higher, which may make it difficult for some people to visit. I would still highly recommend The Hive! Keep on climbing and challenging yourself.

Expérience négative: Excellent facility but ruined by rules that are way over the top. I was not able to climb with my 2 daughters because their rules expect that any child under 13 is completely out of control. Get a grip you guys, these rules are absolitely ridiculous!

Expérience fantastique: Clean, glad for lots of windows (most climbing places I go to can feel a bit dungeon-y and lack windows). Great variety of climbs, helpful staff, and overall just like the vibe of the place. One of the only places I've been to in the prairies with exclusively gender neutral washroom, they seem to have a high value for having fun in an inclusive way. Wish drop ins weren't so expensive though--even without having to rent gear it was about 30 dollars.

It’s been 6 months, an expensive gym pass and one financial argument later - yet this place is still a one-of-a-kind spot I don’t see myself leaving anytime soon. The layout is well executed considering the space they’re constrained to. My only critique is they need a better spray wall. Climb On!

Expérience positive: Very fun time here. The loud, obnoxious club music was slightly off-putting, in my opinion, but apparently, it is only once a month. But I had fun there for the little bit I was there.

Expérience négative: The climbing experience was not very happy, after climbed several times I realized that the mats are too hard, it doesn’t absorb the impact to my knees. When I told the staff about this, the manager came out and reacted rudely to me. When I mentioned that my knees hurt because the mats are too hard, the manager asked me to provide a doctor’s note as proof. However I wouldn’t continue climbing here until I need to see a doctor. I just simply wanted to express the hardness of the mats was causing discomfort and potentially exacerbating any existing knee issues.

Expérience fantastique: I had a stint where I went to the Hive for about 5 months straight and found it a lot of fun. The facility is clean and organized. Everyone has been respectful and safe. All climbs are surrounded by very plush mats so you don't have to bring your own crash pads. There is a small weight area with a handful of tools like resistance bands, tall boxes, gymnast rings, and a power rack. I find the climbs balanced enough. Tall/short skilled/unskilled alike will find climbs they can do. This is a great place to challenge yourself. People around you are also happy to offer insight. Additionally, the hive has embraced the app Kaya where people often post their climbs (so you can steal beta). I'll also note that they change routes regularly (on a bi-weekly basis if I'm recalling correctly). To note some negatives, it is pricy. This isn't a "standard gym" and isn't priced as such. The price is more palatable if you only go a handful of times for fun but it can be tough once you aim for a membership. If you're committed to climbing (3-4 times a week) then perhaps it is worth it. I fell out of the habit of climbing due to other circumstances but I'd be happy to pick it up again.

Expérience fantastique: The Hive Winnipeg is an amazing bouldering gym! The community is friendly, helpful, and I have made lots of climbing friends over the past few months. I’m proud to call this place my first ever home gym. The gym changes often, routesetting happens on Mondays and Fridays every week. It’s always fun to come in on new set day to get first dibs on the new routes! The new comp style wall has been very nice to play around on, and only con is that the gym has only a small cave section for a steeper negative incline. I can’t wait to come back soon and see if there are any new changes to the gym! Especially the new rule allowing loose/ball chalk, I’m looking forward to that.

Expérience fantastique: Giving a solid five star review to this place as my 6 y/o son had such a positive experience during the rock climbing summer camp. Every time picking up my son after a full day of climbing he didn’t want to leave, excitingly showing me the new heights/limits that he achieved. Solana, an excellent instructor with a great personality not only revealed his inner rock climber, but constantly kept challenging him in the most efficient way. My son is excited to continue taking the classes this fall, and I am excited for his enthusiasm and determination.

Expérience fantastique: Top notch route setting on a weekly rotating basis, coupled with a large, bright and clean space with several large and varied bouldering walls makes this gym my favorite. Mandatory liquid chalk keeps the air and hands clean too.

The gym is clean and open, rarely feeling too crowded (especially during the day). The Hive is a good addition to the local climbing community and a great place to climb if you're in the South part of the city and your budget allows it.

The staff are kind and helpful and I've made some new friends amongst them. They replace the climbs on 1 or 2 walls a week so there's always new problems to work on. Over been a member for over a year and I try to go three times a week.

Expérience fantastique: great climbing gym. bouldering grades range from beginner to advanced. my sisters and I had a great time eventhough it was our first time at the gym. their own hex-system of grading boulder problems seem consistent too. we were able to try almost all the level one hex probems. they have differnt wall types from slab to aggressive overhangs. as first timers, we weren't intimidated to jump on some pretty overhung walls as they still set some level one or two hex problem on there. climbing felt relatively safe too as there were lots of down-climb holds available.

Kid friendly even though there are people of all ages, no need for harness. Lots of climbing areas for all levels.

All levels of experience and difficulty can be found here. After we tried the beginners, we challenged ourselves on the more difficult climbs. So much fun!

Expérience fantastique: So grateful for The Hive Winnipeg. It's queer-friendly, clean, has beautiful natural lighting, and the routesetting is excellent. What more can you ask? If you're used to more typical climbing gyms, it's a quite an adjustment to only be permitted to use liquid chalk—but I asked about this rule and I get why they do it (it's to keep the place cleaner). It can be very busy, and it's the most kid-friendly climbing gym I've been to.

Expérience fantastique: The Hive is an amazing bouldering gym in the city. I have been visiting regularly for the past few months and love the variety of routes ranging from beginner to intermediate to difficult. There is really something for all levels which is great. They change the routes often as well, so there’s always something new when you return. The Hive is always spotlessly clean and COVID-friendly. Masks are also mandatory, as per the current Manitoba health orders. They have changing rooms, washrooms, a training area with equipment, lockers and cubbies to store your stuff, massive windows with nice views, tables and chairs for seating, and a small shop with a variety of climbing gear like shoes, hand lotions, clothing, books, chalk, etc. They offer shoe rentals if you don’t have your own. You must use liquid chalk here so make sure to bring some or buy here. The Hive offers courses as well to level up your bouldering which is awesome. When you visit for the first time, the staff give you an introduction to bouldering, how to read the rating system, how to fall properly, etc. The staff are always knowledgeable, friendly and willing to help. I recommend downloading their app called Venga to see all the current routes and plan your projects in advance. You can see photos of the routes and comments and beta from other climbers, as well as, check off the routes you’ve accomplished to keep track of your progress. You will find a variety of climbers with all skill levels here and it’s always great to watch others to learn different techniques. The only downside is the prices are a bit steep. The Hive has other locations in BC so if you have a membership, you can visit those locations as well (included). The punch pass doesn’t really offer much savings from the non-member drop in fee which is a little unfortunate. Still a great gym and I love coming here, and am willing to pay a bit more for the calibre of routes that they have. Highly recommend the Hive to anyone wanting to get into bouldering and to grow as a climber. There are endless opportunities to learn here.

The whole team at The Hive has made it SO EASY to stay up to date with their covid protocols by offering clear signage at the facility and detailed posts on social media in a super timely manner, not to mention solutions in place to help all climbers keep each other safe incase you forget your mask at home. Way go team! Y'all are the BEST!

When I called to ask questions about visiting this location with my child I was given all information except that my child who is 4 would have to wear a mask. They didn't inform me of this until I got to the location and I didn't have a child mask with me. Also when I was there an employee walked in with no mask on
