Expérience négative: This place is located on kingsway not far from Metrotown Its pretty small the staff are not that knowledgeable and they play tricks on you and make things up Like most of the fitness industry.

Carol Van 4 years ago

Expérience positive: Need more eliptical machines ,some newer bikes, good staff, young...,need to to open the pool. The staff should be on the members who drop the weights and sit around on the phone taking up space not working out.I am sure the owners don't want to have to replace equipment all the time.

Joe Lastoria 4 years ago

Expérience négative: Mask mandate in place but it is not being policed. No social distancing and many club members not utilizing masks.

Jas Bhachu 4 years ago

Expérience positive: It's spacious and you should be able to do all the things you want to do. The gym is obviously quite old, in need of some renos; especially in the men's change room.

Expérience négative: Poor management especially when dealing with customer concerns. Manager needs some lessons on harvesting member feedback and use it to improve customer experience. Corporate management are hard to reach for feedback.

Expérience fantastique: It’s not the fanciest gym around. However it has everything you need if you want to get in shape or train. I can personally recommend a trainer called Matt I believe he’s the manager for the Trainer ‘s. I’ve worked with him on and off the last couple years and he’s done miracles for my physique.Especially my posture as he taught me how to train to straighten my back and numerous other body definition workouts. It’s def not the fanciest or most modern gym but it has all the ellipticals and cardio equipment that you need including free weights, machines, squat racks etc.The pool has been closed down for quite a while. Super cheap monthly fees. Really helpful staff.

Expérience positive: I was also hesitate to come to this place from negative reviews. I went there for a free 3 day pass and immediately sign up the membership after the tour. Place is clean and the staff JP is nice. And above all, they have a heavy bag !!! I would give 5 stars if they more heavy bag. The line up to is too long. : (

Expérience positive: I was hesitant about signing up for a membership at Fitness World considering the negative publicity of the former chain. The manager Ben was very straightforward with the different membership options and we agreed on one to best suit my needs. I have frequented some of the various locations in the city but Kingsway gives me the best vibes. The staff make you feel very welcome and know practically everyone on a first name basis. They’ve gone out of their way to make the gym feel like a home, all the while making members feel safe during these unfortunate times. The staff are on the ball with everything, whether it be updating signage or topping off cleaning supplies. Adding to the awesome service, they are improving the aesthetics of the location and are receiving upgrades. “Teamwork makes the dream work” seems to be their catch phrase and it’s definitely working for them. Thanks guys for doing what you do!

Expérience fantastique: I have never written a review on Google but I felt the need to write this review. The staff at this location are fantastic, they are friendly, and professional. Ben the manager is extremely professional and personable. I have never been to a gym that has such professional and friendly staff. Ben ensured that even through Covid he kept the members happy by having classes that are allowed during Covid. Tanya is an excellent instructor who teaches a strength class, she is awesome. I couldn’t be happier to be a member at this gym, my membership dues are WELL worth it, the equipment is good, the staff and manager are wonderful and the studio is large, bright and when Covid is over will have many classes suited to all different styles.

Expérience négative: *Update Jan 5 2021* Got a call from Ben - seems he replied to my email but I did not receive it. We chatted a bit more and he was able to help with my membership inquiry. *Previous review posted Dec 2020* Does anyone work here ?? I sent email about my membership no replies . I call in and finally get ahold of someone , I'm told I need to come into sign some paperwork. I come in and there's noone at the front desk , waited 30 mins and no staff were around . Sign says they're cleaning . Walked around to try and find staff cleaning and there's noone around . So either your staff dipped or they're working out and not wearing a uniform.

Expérience négative: I canceled mine and my wife's subscriptions back in February before SN closed all their locations. A few weeks ago I found out that they had been charging my credit card since August and already took $150 out of my visa card. Tried to contact them but there was no phone number or email to do so, very frustrating situation. Finally a week ago I got a hold of someone over the phone at this location, explained the whole situation and they said they were gonna request a refund on my behalf. Tired of waiting decided to go in person to this location only to find out that our subscriptions are still active and that we are passed due on our payments(I canceled my credit card to stop the payments) so the guy at the front told me that he couldn't cancel the membership because I owed them money, I also found out that no request had been filed on my behalf for the reimbursement of this unauthorized charges. I don't know what to do, this is a very frustrating situation for me, I am a busy man with no time to waste on this bs situation, a just want a full refund for this unfair charges.

Zephyros Phoenix 4 years ago

Expérience négative: Travis teaches a class here, so that's the only reason we come right now. But they really need to stop letting people sign themselves up for his class, or any class for that matter. There's a group of people on Tuesdays that have a monopoly on it. Whoever checks in first just signs up all their friends and they make up at least half the class. It's really not fair to people who are there and want to sign up, but can't because the list is filled with people who aren't even there yet. The staff should be the ones to control the sign in sheet so people can't fill up half the list with their friends' names.

Bo Wen 4 years ago

Expérience négative: I occasionally go to this location before SNFW "rebranded" to Fitness World in an effort to screw over their contractors, employees, and past customers. If you want to work out here, get all the paper work and know your rights. Prepare for the fight of a lifetime if you ever change gym. Yes, I'm talking about going down to corporate office in person and being shut down with a generic Notice of Intent that doesn't even acknowledge their prepaid members as creditors, calling and not able to talk to a manager, being assured that you won't be charged but charges still keep coming in. Need help, no thank you, we will keep charging you is the motto of their business.

Expérience fantastique: the best gym around

SORA LIM 4 years ago

Expérience négative: Now, they have named it Fitness World, which is totally treating the guests and previous customers unmannerly, just like Steve Nash did it in the past or even worse. They are promoting $7.5 bi weekly, but if you are the previous member, there is nothing you gain from this. WHY?, first you have to cancel your account under Steve Nash, taking a month to be cancelled,. That means the previous rate with Steve Nash will be charged another month. Most of the people pay more than $7.5. That's why people want to cancel their account. Right? However, after waiting for another month, you have to pay for the enrollment fee $40 if you want to contract the $7.5 promotion, and the maintenance fee will be charged after three months. In this pandemic, they refused to receive the phone call regarding the cancellation, asking the people to visit the place physically. Plus, now it is October, as they have opened August 28th?, they have been charging the customers without any notice. At least, they should have given the customers choice to come or not considering this pandemic, rather than stealing the money from customers' account. Tons of seniors would have trouble finding this, and cannot get their money back. Low staffing and no respectful policy or any consideration of this situation. Your company doesn't deserve anything here. I feel so sorry for the staff working for this company as they are the front lines facing all the complaints from the people. Plus, your company doesn't follow the health protocols preventing the covid-19. Already positive case occurred in this location this morning. Please wear the masks properly and require it mandatory. Increase the staffing so that the management will go smoothly. Whatever you do, you have already lost your trust from many many potential customers.

Expérience négative: Worst service I've ever seen in 20+ years of working out. ...i quit after a month, so they charged me for another month (even tho TIM, the regional manager say they wouldn't). ...then they gouged me $10, claiming that I no-showed once, which i definitely did NOT. They said they would refund me, but still waiting

Expérience négative: So garbage. Three of staffs forced me to join them and charged.

Expérience fantastique: I've been going to this gym for almost 4 years and it's really good. The location is accessible, the equipment is usable, and if you don't feel comfortable exercising with men there's a women's section in the upper part.

Dakota P 5 years ago

Expérience négative: Needs renovations.

Lana Connors 5 years ago

Expérience négative: Went here to use the pool facility, turns out they have "mens" pool days and "women's" pool days because they only have 1 changeroom that has access to the pool. Showed up on a "mens" day since they do not have this information readily accessible and was told that me (non-binary) and my friend (woman) could not use the pool because we were "women." I asked what the policy was for people who do not fall into the category of "men" or "women" and they responded "we can't stop you from using the change room but we can't control how the men in there will react." Just going to say that the situation we were put in was uncomfortable and that this gym is absolutely not accessible for trans, enby and gender nonconforming people. This situation made me feel unsafe and the staff did not take my valid questions seriously. Why not just have all gendered changerooms? Very disappointed.

Expérience négative: Stinky smell right as soon as you enter. Most gyms I've been to have those wet disinfectant dispensers. There they only had a spray and a paper towel roll and they just hang them somewhere hard to find. Hygiene wise for me is a no bueno here.

Shar Cuthand 5 years ago

Expérience positive: Like most people, I use the gym because it's in my neighborhood. Yes the equipment isn't overly modern, and I actually dont mind the low ceilings. The women's only section has everything I need, although it is kinda chilly in the winter. The room where they hold classes is massive, and certain classes get very busy. The staff are not properly trained, usually don't know what they're talking about, and don't go out of their way to be warm or welcoming. I have trained with 2 personal trainers because it was offered for free for me. I think their names were Chris and Haylee. Both trainers were very good, and I would train with them in a heartbeat albeit the price. Drop $500-1000 on a handful of sessions? If I made 60k a year, sure! What they charge for personal training is inaccessible for many. One of the managers who spoke with me after Haylee's session was extremely pushy and asked me very personal questions about my financial business. Inappropriate! I haven't tried the pool yet because the days alternate from women, then then next day men, and so on. Sunday's are a unisex day. The parking lot- good luck finding a spot. I've always just walked and when I'm approaching the building, there's at least 2 or 3 cars looking for a spot. This location is the original Steve Nash. Personally, I don't mind that it's smaller and lower ceilings, makes it feel more cozy to me. I've been to the one in Victoria and it's huge and lots of space and that honestly made me feel more vulnerable/exposed. This location could honestly be great. In this case it's about the people in the community. If the staff took the time to acknowledge clients, maybe even learn their names, and were more communicative... This place could become more like a community/family. At the end of the day it's about how people are treated. Being helpful and compassionate goes a lot way. It's too bad cancelling the membership sounds like a horrible process. If the time comes, I will be sure to be very thorough and even get a new debit card so I'm not charged unneccessarily. If I could make a suggestion to this specific gym, I would say be less corporatey, and become more customer oriented.

Expérience négative: Ive been going to this gym for over a month now just because of the convenience to my home. Honestly, I must say that the experience is not that great. The gym has a very stinky smell that is noticeable as soon as you enter. Most staff here are usually quite kind except this one girl that works at the front. I believe her name is "Karen" or Karn" ?? She always seems to give dirty looks which makes the environment of the gym feel uneasy towards me. I am not the only one who thinks so as I have also spoken to other members who also agree. I already have a difficult time motivating myself towards working out in order to achieve my fitness goals, so her presence makes me feel as if I am unwanted at this gym. Honestly, I will most likely opt into going to the Brentwood location from now on despite it being further as I jut feel more comfortable there.

Ana 5 years ago

Expérience positive: Suuuuper outdated equipment . Exceptionally low ceilings, so bad that my head was an inch from the ceiling when using the stair master. Tiny change rooms and lockers and no water bottle filling stations like other gyms, so you have to try and maneuver a water bottle under the tap or fountain. They switch changing rooms from Men to Women and back every day...very strange. Very limited parking. Pros- mirrors on almost every wall. Pool and hot tub but access is only in the one change room that switches genders each day.

Expérience négative: I really love SNFC. I used to frequent the Granville(Sports Club) and Cambue locations when I lived downtown. I've moved out to South Van/Burnaby area and this(Kingsway) is the closest location. And this location makes me not want to go to the gym at all. I've occasionally driven up to Cambie just to get a good workout in. Okay lets begin, the on-off men/women (co-ed on weekends) locker room switch is annoying and confusing. The Toilet stalls are often broken(not in service) or dirty and there are only 2 stalls in each locker room. The parking is always full and you'd have to wait for someone to leave before you could park or park across kingsway, how convenient. Only Treadmills #11 & #8 can be used to run. The rest have the belt skipping issue. I can go on but mgmt could start attempting to fix these issues.

Expérience négative: This is the worst Steve Nash location I have been to. When I arrived to pay for my annual membership fee with cash, there was no one at the counter. I stood and waited for about 20 minutes and finally decided to head behind the counter to see if there's any note saying where to find them. Soon after I enter, a guy with headphone on came out to say he is the staff. I asked to pay the annual membership fee with cash and he told me their POS system is down because there was a robbery. The only thing that went through my mind was "and you still leave the front counter unmanned ?". It feels like this place is run by a bunch of high school kids. The equipment are old, changing room and pool are really dirty, and the free weight room smell bad. Truly the worst Steve Nash location.

Expérience positive: i will tell you a short story. I tried to cancel my membership within 10 days after i joined. However, they cant let me cancel because they cant print the cancellation form that i need to sign because their printer has been out of commission for more than a week. So the sales rep said he is going to send me a form through my e mail asked me to print out the from in my home and come back. i went back home and refilled my printer ink just for this and opened the e mail he sent me. Surprise!!! he sent me an html link to access the cancellation form which only steve nash employee can access. At this point i just wasted 2 days and now i only have 2 more days before my cancellation grace period ends. i think there is a evil plan at work here, so wish me luck in cancelling this steve nash membership! I finally submitted my cancellation form to the branch and contacted steve nash hq and confirmed it. In the process i had to face branch staff who digruntledly asked me 3 times why i left this google review and told to wait another 20 min to see sales rep even though they realized that i dont need to. Overall i spent around 3 to 4 hours for whole cancellation process and not a single steve nash staff ever said simple “we are sorry for your inconvenience “ My 2cents: You better have a working printer at your home if you want to cancel your membership from this benach

Expérience positive: Not a bad gym, but there's no parking anywhere to the point where people are idling down the driveway and blocking traffic just to avoid the $2/hr street parking. That's not fully on the establishments end to fix this problem, but if people can keep this info in mind, it would help with the congestion on the streets and the idling of vehicles. I needed to drive due to a back injury and hip dislocation (my rehab was done at this gym through KARP)and even I didn't mind parking farther away. Unfortunately due to the difficulty of coming here I won't be coming back.

Expérience positive: I have been coming to this location for over 6 months now, originally I signed up in Richmond then I moved to Burnaby, I don't have any membership issue so far. My goal is weight loss so I also signed up for GT12 group training ( it's a circuit training, a form of interval training) and personal training, both of them work well for me, for a 6-month-period, I have lost a little more than 15kg (of fat). I cannot say it is a perfect gym ( in terms of equipment or people there ) but whether it is perfect or not really has little impact with my exercise routine, the location is convenient for me; I come to the gym, show up and train hard, get the workout done and go home. For anyone that has a clear goal and cares about the location (in terms of convenience), Steve Nash Kingsway is not a bad choice. At least I see my result and I am happy with it. Hope this would help you too :)

Expérience positive: I got a free pass to try it out for a week and the staff are really nice, aside from being very pushy to join. It did make me feel uncomfortable like they only cared about making a sale/signing someone up. The machines are quite dated but not too bad. I would say I'd give it another try and see if I still like it.

Expérience négative: Very rude staff! Old equipment and facility! Never consider this place!

S T 6 years ago

Expérience négative: Don't listen to the responses from the "owner". They won't do anything about it. The same concerns have been raised over and over again, yet nothing has been done. Men's workout area still smells, washrooms still dirty, machines so old that the cables can't even move smoothly anymore (a 10lbs setting feels like a 50lbs). There's literally rust on these machines. I understand that you don't need the latest equipments, but at least maintain what you currently have. They keep charging these club "improvement" fees (around $60), but I don't see a dime's worth of improvement. I know because I've been a member for over 15 years. I live 5 minutes away from this location, yet I travel 20 minutes (and pay for parking) everyday to use the Marine Gateway location. The parking cost alone is more than my yearly membership. That should say something about the lengths I go through to avoid this place. If you're thinking about joining this location, don't! PS: To the so called 'owner', please don't bother replying to this review. I know you're just a person in charge of online marketing, and replying to reviews with template responses is pretty much all you can do. You'll thank me for my feedback and you'll forward this to "upper" management. Even worse, you'll ask for my contact information so you can address my concerns. Why? My concerns (and everyone else's) are explicitly stated in the reviews. Address them. You've been forwarding to "upper" management for years. If it didn't work the first year, it's not going to work the next 10. If you are really the owner of this club, then shame on you.

Expérience négative: Horrible customer service. I just paid last week and they wouldn’t let me through because the payment wasn’t showing in the system. Not my problem. Would only let me through if I paid again which I refused to do. So I walked out. Planning to cancel this membership soon. I’m not paying $60/mo to get harassed almost every time and spend the next 10 minutes trying to fix THEIR system and asking me for my banking info 3 times over 4 months. Brutal!!! And don’t get me started with the collection calls :(

Expérience négative: This gym is disgusting. Bathrooms always smell like pee and weight area is always overbearing with sweat and BO odors. I dont think anything is clean here. It actually makes me sick. And I go to a lot of gyms. This one is by far the worst.

Expérience négative: Total waste of money!!!!.... was promised of an inaccurate promotional offer of , free training for 1 month and they said they're going to charge a discounted enrollment fee of 21.78. however 2 weeks later, I was charged for the remaining enrollment fee of 81.70, and a bi weekly payment of 30.44. Spoke to the manager, he referred to member services, and member services, acted as if it's none of their business. I repeat PLEASE AVOID this gym !!!!!

Expérience fantastique: I signed up for a gym membership and some personal training sessions just recently i was given plenty of information from nutrition to exercise from both the General Manager (Dustin) and his partner (Lindsay) whom is the fitness manager and the staff everyone there was very knowledgeable, friendly and professional with a great positive attitude .I usually do not feel very comfortable walking into a gym for the first time but they helped ease the process and seemed very passionate about their careers at Steve Nash.

Expérience positive: If you're looking for a place that isn't busy and you want to workout and move on with your day, this could be the place for you. Lots of equipment and staff to help. It's just a bit old, which could explain why it's less busy than their competitors.

Expérience positive: Friendly staff, will help you with things no matter what. Exercise machines are modern. This place can vary in the influx of people. But from what I see it’s not a busy gym making it good for more access to machines. This location has a pool and a woman’s only class upstairs.

Expérience négative: **update** I left the gym almost 2 years ago and they are still calling me trying to get me to come back, even after asking them multiple times to close my account and remove my information. I keep blocking different numbers from them but it doesn’t seem to stop. Went here for a few months and was unimpressed. While they do have a parking lot, it fills up often and there’s a line of cars waiting to go in. I usually had to park a few blocks away to get free parking and walk, or it was about a 15-20 min wait to park in their lot. The staff was alright, some of them were friendly but they were very pushy trying to get me to sign up with a personal trainer. I didn’t like their hours either. Working full time and also being a student taking night courses, some days I wasn’t able to go to the gym because they closed too early. I get that their hours would work for most people probably, but they didn’t work for me. The building is not new at all. The ladies only area is quite small and would fill up quickly. The change room in the ladies only felt run down like they had forgotten about it. The lockers were dingy and some of them were broken. The pool was so small it was kind of a joke. And men and women each had their own days they could use it so half the time the pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub aren’t accessible anyway. I went to a couple of the classes they offered but wasn’t overly happy with them. At a yoga class the instructor yelled at a girl because she was stretching a different side than he was. When I signed up I had to pay first and last payments up front which is fine, but when I cancelled I made sure to do it within the time frame they gave me so I wouldn’t get charged again and they would just use my last payment I had already made for the last two weeks, but they still continued to charge me. Past the date of when my membership expired and kept the last payment I had made when signing up. I let it go because I’ve heard awful stories about what some people go through when they try to leave a Steve Nash gym, so I figured I’d rather just lose the couple payments than risk making it worse. I also did not like that there was an annual fee on top of the biweekly payments. The lowest level of membership was still not cheap and was quite restrictive as you can only go to that location and only go to select classes. While I was a member they would send me regular text messages with offers to get friends and family signed up and I continued to get them even after I asked for it to stop. Even after I stopped being a member they would send me messages with offers to come back and I requested they stop multiple times but had to block their numbers whenever they sent a message from a new number. I left this gym to go to GoodLife down the road and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. The staff at GoodLife are so friendly, the facility is new, ladies only area is big, they’re 24/7, no yearly fee. And for less than $8 a month more than what I was paying at Steve Nash I got the highest membership, being able to go to any location, any time, any class (including hot yoga), get towel service and the use of their massage chairs. I’d recommend GoodLife over Steve Nash to anyone.

Expérience négative: I am a member at stevenash im totally happy with other locations specially ones in downtown but the kingsway location that is close to my work place is so dirty and smelly. Expérience négative: These guys operate in bad faith. Moving to another country, and cancelled my membership just inside 30 days of the annual fee being imposed on my account. Called in hoping to get them to refund or prorate the annual fee. Stonewalled with unhelpful billing department. If I don't hear back from their customer service team, I'm going to throw another report on the pile at the Better Business Bureau (100% negative reviews there!) and file a complaint with Consumer Protection BC. Followup: Do not think their response to review resolved anything! A few days after I responded to their contact request, they have continued to stand by their first choice! My suggestion is to avoid any engagement with an organization that has no regard for customer satisfaction.

Expérience négative: It seems like there were only trainers there at the gym and not many members. Probably because their prices here are so unreasonable compared to the local competition. I joined another gym and did NOT have to pay an initiation fee like this place was asking for. Not good for people who are getting back into fitness. They act like used car salesmen and only pitch contracts of a year or more at you. Well I won't commit unless I like your gym bro. I went elsewhere. Nothing impressive.

Expérience négative: Don't be fooled or be conned by the same guy that did this to me. They wanted to sign the contract which I did and called before the agreement to have it cancelled and Rami(manager) agreed to. Everytime I call or message him about my contract he never lets me finish and cut me off and just say that he is doing it already. I live an hour away from the gym and could've gone there myself to settle things, but I don't want to cause I might just get the same treatment as when I call. He keeps telling me that he is doing it and he cancelled my contract already and he is processing my refund already. I'm a part time student and part time working as well. I explained to him so many times already that I couldn't and don't have no time at all to go to the gym and workout. This conversation has been going on since last year of December. And same lies has been said ever since, I call Steve Nash Head office seeking help from their very own employee and they just answered very rudely and said "it's your contract! It's your responsibility to update him about it all the time." I called them seeking help but they just answered me that way. I don't know what I'm gonna do with this, I don't have the time to keep on thinking about this. I hope with this review something will be done to help me. Please! UPDATE: I got my refund back, because of the new manager Natasha, thank you so much!

Expérience négative: Not enough parking spots. People have to line up for 10-15 minutes to park during rush hour. Seriously? Instead of increasing the size of the facility, increase the size of the parking.

james lee 7 years ago

Expérience négative: Parking Lot is horrible only has 10 spots. Gym equipment is old, Pool is outdated gross and has a funky smell. It always feels like a dungeon when I work out here. Not worth $50 dollars a month !

Shirley 7 years ago

Expérience positive: Parking is really difficult here in the evenings, mainly the reason for the lower rating. Ended up parking on the street, free after 8pm. There is a pool but it alternates by day in terms of gender, so M/W/F is for males and T/Th/Sa is for females. There is a women's one section, not very big there.

Jeff Talbott 7 years ago

Expérience positive: Could use a good face lift but it's not bad if you're there to workout, sweat, and get out. Tons of free weights and more than enough benches. The back area is where I spend all my time. It'd be nice if they had more squat racks. Lots of annoying people lingering for 10 minutes on each station. Sometimes reading the newspaper. Poor etiquette. Pool is tiny, pointless TBH. Can't swim laps or any kind of training. Staff and trainers are friendly. Workout areas are tidy and clean. Bathrooms/change-rooms need renovations. Moldy and smelly. I avoid them.
