Expérience négative: This is 1 star review for terrible customer service provided by Tara. In July I sent medical letters and EI forms to provide evidence that I sustained a horrible injury that left me unable to walk and with many hospital & ER visits I asked if there was any way to pause my membership and potentially receive a refund for the month previously that I was unable to contact them due to being injured and in the hospital, with many bills to pay and being left unable to work from my injury anything helped at that point. I was told no, but what they could do was pause my membership and that they’d give me two free months when I came back. I thought this was lovely and I was extremely appreciative and accepted. Then after I received confirmation of my pause, which took almost a week to even get a response of confirmation - I was then charged 13 days later after the confirmation. I had to wait over 10 days for my refund, ok no problem. Mistakes happen. I finally rejoin the gym and in my email state that I have two months complimentary, as I have multiple emails telling me I have two months complimentary…. I was once again charged my full membership amount. On top of this all while I was on EI medical leave I was charged a “wear and tear” fee on a gym I was not using - fine. Ok. I did complain about this fee as again, I was not working due to being in the hospital and because I did not have money in my chequing account I was then charged a $48 NSF fee from my bank. I would have really loved to have been told to expect this fee even with my membership being on pause. At this point is when I started becoming upset at my treatment at Anytime. Since it’s standard that when you have paused a membership you won’t be charged for anything while on that pause, at the very least, a courtesy reminder honestly would have been greatly appreciated. Maybe I missed it written in my contract, but honestly my sign up was so long ago again - a courtesy reminder at the time of me pausing would have been all I needed to prepare. So now once again, they have charge my full bi weekly membership fee when I was told I was going to receive two complimentary months. On top of it all it’s taken me a long time to receive responses from Tara and when speaking with her on the phone she is quite honestly rude, as if inquiring about a medical pause was a nuisance. I have been unable to work or walk for 6 months due to this injury; so I’m sorry a $80 monthly membership was a lot to me. Ive never had issues with my payments in the past, but during this extremely difficult time every dollar was counting as a bread winner for my family. I understand being a for profit business but you’d think you’d treat your members with more: 1. Empathy. To be perfectly honest if I was provided with multiple medical notes stating a customer of mine had sustained an injury that left them hospitalized and unable to walk, and thus affected their ability to call and pause a membership - in good conscience I’d probably give them that refund to begin with. I’d probably make exceptions in extreme medical cases. 2. Professionalism. I don’t know any business that would operate and think it’s ok to charge people multiple times after stating otherwise. They were very quick to take my money incorrectly but to get a response or refund takes ages. I have yet to hear back about this incorrect charge. I’ve attached screenshots below, I was genuinely so excited to get back to the gym after finally being able to walk again but honestly this has left such a bad feeling to me.
Expérience fantastique: I really enjoy this anytime, I go to a lot of different facilities in the lower mainland and this is one of my favourites by far. Friendly staff, clean gym, and a good variety of equipment available!

Expérience fantastique: Been going to this gym for 5 months now, it's in the smaller side but has everything you need and it's very well kept. Since I started I've had a personal trainer, Sophie Embly, who has been the most wonderful guide in transforming me to reach my goal of entering competitive bodybuilding. She's very knowledgeable, attentive, relaxed and a nice person. Can't thank her enough for the amount of progress I've seen while working with her!

Expérience fantastique: Signing up was a breeze, thanks to Tara—she was super honest and transparent about the gym, fees, and the busy hours. The gym's not huge, but I can totally see myself getting a solid workout there!

Expérience fantastique: Nice local gym. I've been going on and off for a few years, and consistently since May with Sophie as my trainer. Never had any issues and I'm happy to say I've lost 26lbs since May.

Expérience fantastique: Having a gym close by has been a godsend and this one is so nice! Sophie is an amazing trainer, finding work arounds for even the most challenging body issues. I always have a good work out. The facilities are fairly cosy and can get quite busy, but those times pass quickly as people don’t tend to linger long over their gym time. The equipment is usually in good condition and always clean and tidy. Not the most inexpensive option around, but 24/7 availability is very useful.

Expérience négative: Honestly for a few months ive been coming here ive been pretty disappointed with the over all value of this gym. For $80/month, this gym at the minimum should have a cold water dispenser. To have worked out in such a small space, especially during peak hours, and then fill my water bottle with lukewarm water warm water is irritating to put it mildly. I can understand the limited machines and equipment due to the size of the gym, but it really feels like im getting ripped off every time i have to take a sip of my warm water. The good things about the gym are that its clean, everyone is very pleasant, especially all the staff, but no amount of kindness replaces the fact that something that is so easy to fix has been ignored for what seems like years, according to friends that frequent the gym as well. This gym should really move to a larger space in the adjacent commercial space surrounding the gym, get some better machines like plate mounted chest press, rows, etc, and install actual cold water fountains. Only then could i truthfully say this gym is worth the price. North vancouver traffic is absolutely atrocious and has been the main reason why i go here, but once my year contract done im going to a different gym.
Hi Eric, it's Nick, the owner. We bought the new high-end Elkay $2000 water-bottle filling station at the request of the members. We are always asking the members for what we can do to improve the club and, unlike other gyms, we actually purchase those things for the members. As for the water, the water comes from the same water lines as all the water in North Vancouver. Honestly, I don't know what to tell you. I guess if you want to give a hard working local business (that just spent $2000 on something the members wanted) a 1-star because your water isn't "cold enough," that's certainly your right. But, when rating a gym, I feel the year round 24-hour access, the super supportive staff, the dedicated personal trainers, the cleanliness, the equipment, the maintenance of the equipment, the access to all 5000 AF gym, the free $300 personal training package that all new members receive, etc, should be more heavily weighted than the water bottle filling station water temperature. As for a larger space... you may not know we have been looking to expand for 4-years. Ask any local real estate agent... it's next to impossible 5,000+ sqft of retail space in that area. Expérience négative: I have been coming to this gym since 2019. I've always found it small, but it's close to home and has enough to get by. My biggest issue here and honestly is the most annoying thing I've ever experienced in a gym is the fact that the owners won't fix the cooling portion of the water cooler. I know it's bugging everyone in the gym, including the two people whom I recommended to this gym. At $80 a month, a fully functioning water cooler is a minimal expectation to have at a gym. Updated response to nick. OK great, you spent $2000 on a water dispenser instead of a water COOLER/dispenser like most of the other Anytime fitnesses have. Between Eric and myself you could have the cooling portion paid off in a year. You keep mentioning It's the same water but your old dispenser had colder water so I don't know what to tell you. Now that you bring up maintenance might as well mention the fact that you havent replaced the screen on the stationary bike. The one and only stationary bike in the gym and the screen doesn't track your rpms and then shuts off after 5 minutes to be exact, probably because it thinks it's inactive. It's been like this months, brought it up well over a month ago and still not fixed. Buck up and maintain your gym. This 1 star is directed at YOUR location not the 5000 other locations.

Expérience fantastique: Community centred laid back gym with all the equipment you would need. Clean, organized, showers available and open 24hrs. Team of affordable personal trainers are approachable and friendly. Did 3 weeks of pre-hab training with Sophie before my knee surgery 3 times a week and saw improvements in strength. Would recommend for motivation and accountability.

Expérience fantastique: Hands down the best gym in north van. I’ve been to them all and can confirm that anytime fitness north van is superior to all other gyms. Every thing is great from their cleanliness, great and new equipment and fantastic staff. Don’t make the mistake of getting a membership at another gym.

Expérience positive: Small gym but has a good variety of equipment & machines. Can get pretty busy so going later at night i found was useful. 24/7 access is also nice

One quick suggestion about the gym getting busy: I would suggest downloading our Anytime Fitness App. It specifically has a member meter on it and tells you how many people are in the gym at that time. Super helpful if you are trying to get a session in and want to have an idea of how busy the gym is. Either way we appreciate your feedback. Keep up the good work! :)

Hi Sasha, thanks for your feedback. We try to optimize the space we do have with versatile equipment. Despite that we're a smaller location we experience less overcrowding than bigger box gyms & rec centres since we're an exclusive members only gym. I'm surprised to read you think the plates are old since they are 5 years old. We installed a new water fountain and the water is the same as it has been since we opened in 2019. We offer water bottles for sale in the vending machine as well for members convenience.

Expérience positive: Been going to this gym for the past 6 months and I have to say it's been fantastic. The gym manager, Tara, is super friendly and easy to get along with. Gavin is an amazing trainer; he's great at motivating you and helping you push your limits, but is also respectful and accommodating of said limits. I highly recommend working with him, as he helped out a sedentary beginner like me become somewhat in shape! The gym itself is a little small compared to other locations, but it's clean and usually not too busy. I do wish the air conditioning could be a little stronger, as I like to be a bit cooler during exercise, but it's not too bad. The other members are pretty respectful and usually keep to themselves, which is nice. Cost-wise, membership is a little bit pricey, but having 24/7 convenient access + the cleanliness of the gym + the other amenities they provide makes it seem reasonable. All in all, AF North Vancouver is a good gym and I'd recommend it to anyone with the money/budget to invest in their physical health.

Expérience fantastique: I recently got the membership at anytime fitness. It’s a small place but you get what you need from the gym. When signing up they Give you three free personal training sessions which I found very helpful. I had my sessions with Gavin and he helped me get comfortable with the equipment. Tara, the manager is so friendly and respectful too. I am happy to be one of the members of anytime fitness gym.

Expérience fantastique: This could be the best gym on the North Shore. Certainly, it's without question the best gym in the seymour area. The layout is intuititve and makes perfect sense and there seems to be an appropriate amount of space for everything - nothing ever feels cramped or out of place. The staff are excellent. Tara, the manager, is helpful and astute, always. She keeps the facility orderly and clean and runs the business like a well oiled machine. My trainer there, Gavin, is very helpful and accomodating (he even helped me get back into lifting after a motorcycle accident). Big thanks to both of them. I've also noticed that this specific gym attracts zero weirdos, and everyone I've seen there seems normal and well adjusted - me being the exception.

Expérience négative: Reply to the lies of Tara. I sat in her office with my daughter and clearly said I do not want to autorenew because she's just a kid. Tara said ok, then sign this. She now shows me the document with my signature that I asked for autorenew to be ON. You abused the trust of a minor. Of course I'm upset. Of course I'm angry. You outright lied to me and then you denied knowing who I was and claimed there is no such account and refuse to cancel until I pushed. You should be deeply ashamed of yourself. Is your mother proud of how you are? Now she is lying. Everyone beware. Can't give negative number of stars. This place is a scam. Owner continued to charge many payments after contract subscription ran out. Then refused to refund stating she has no idea who I am. Happy to commit fraud but not happy to pay it back. REPORTED TO BBB. Go for a walk, go for a swim, don't go to Anytime Fitness. Especially to This Location.
Hi Sasha (X D), While we are sorry that you had a bad experience, we need to be very clear about this. I understand you’re frustrated but this entire issue is from a mistake on your part, not ours. Not only was this your mistake, but you were extremely RUDE AND THREATENING to our staff, which is 100% unacceptable. Our staff are young and very capable managers that work hard to support our members, and threatening them is not only completely unacceptable, but can result in legal charges against you. There is no place for that type of shameful behaviour. It’s important that readers of this review understand what happened. You helped your daughter join the gym by signing the membership agreement for her and paying for her membership. As you recall, YOU chose the auto-renew option for her. This option is a free add-on to the membership and let’s you continue your membership on a month-to-month basis after the agreement ends. This is not a default option, and you chose it as a free add-on AND YOU SIGNED YOUR INITIALS beside it. It is a feature many of our members love, as it allows you to continue accessing the gym and go month-to-month without having to sign up for an entire year membership again. We sent you a copy of the contract with that section highlighted, so you could see it for yourself. I’m also happy to post a picture of the contract publicly, so everyone can see your signature on this option if you like? In the end, she didn’t cancel her membership. Whether she forgot to cancel it or maybe she wanted to keep the membership, we don’t know and that’s for you and her to discuss. We do know that the membership was not cancelled as you and her allege, as we have a specific process for cancelations to ensure they are handled quickly and so that we have a clear record of it. We have no records of her or you calling, emailing or even coming in person to cancel. When pressed, she couldn’t remember who she talked to or provide any clarification about when she “cancelled.” So, you called into the gym and asked about your daughter’s membership, and said her name was Sophie. However, we could not locate “Sophie” in our system. You were FURIOUS that we couldn’t find her in the system and screamed at the staff that we were “not finding her” on purpose. HOWEVER, afterward your daughter called and said she joined under her OTHER NAME, “Meadow” not Sophie. No wonder we couldn’t find her in our system, but you were still extremely aggressive and blaming us. In fact, our manager couldn’t get a word in because you were YELLING so much. This made it impossible for us to help you. You then threatened our manager over the phone to intimidate her. Again, this is something we are considering legal action against you for, and this review will be evidence of that behaviour. BC law has very clear rules about protecting employees against people who actively threaten and intimidate in a business environment. The only true part of your review is suggesting people to go for a walk, or a swim, or some form of exercise, as we always encourage activities outside the gym as well. Even after your reprehensible behaviour and despite how you treated staff, we decided to waive the 30-days cancelation notice for her and processed an immediate cancellation. Going forward, you will be BANNED from all Anytime Fitness locations to protect our staff and to protect the integrity of our membership.

Expérience négative: I'd be cautious when signing up for this gym as they use the contract to continue your membership fees unknowingly. Second winter season using this gym and now feel cheated over my 6 month contract apparently not being 6 months as what I signed up for. I was told it was my fault for not reading the contract. I signed up for 6 months. Not 6+ we'll keep charging until you notice and then it takes 30 days to cancel. It is simply that this wasn't explained at time of sign up and is deceiving.
Hi Ryan, thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear you feel this way, as we never want members to have this experience. As discussed over the phone, you chose the optional auto-renewal feature, so I'm not sure how this is a surprise to you. You checked the auto-renewal box and also initialed beside it. It's a great feature that allows you to continue on a month-2-month basis after the initial term ends AND you also get to keep your original membership rate. It's a great free feature that many members choose. You were also emailed a copy of your membership as soon as you joined, so you can also see that you chose that option. Expérience fantastique: Super clean, well maintained equipment, awesome staff/trainers, bright and spacious facility. Lots of natural light, wifi and a couple of well positioned TV's. Also worth noting that the members all respect the facility and other gym members so it makes for a nice environment to train in. Like most gyms there are peeks and valleys in usage but overall i am always able to access the machines that I need whenever i go. It is a private gym so the membership is relatively consistent and peek times are predictable. They operate 24/7 which is amazing for the early weekend workouts and to accommodate a busy work schedule. Membership fees are reasonable and haven't gone up. Changing rooms / showers are spotless ! Lots of free parking. Kudos to owner and staff for providing us with a 5 star north van neighbourhood gym. Chris H North Vancouver

I've felt welcomed from the very start, club manager Tara and rest of the staff are super friendly. The Gym is a bit small, but has everything I need for my workouts and find it's never too busy. I 100% recommend this location.

Expérience fantastique: Anytime Fitness North Van is a really awesome gym and is really great value, here are some of the best things about this location: - the equipment they have is REALLY great! They have all the best machines, free weights, functional training tools, and cardio equipment ... you can tell this gym was put together by passionate and educated fitness pros! The owners and staff practice what they preach and this really shows. - the gym is always clean and very well maintained - 24 hour access so you can literally workout at any day/time! - very friendly and helpful staff - other members are great too, very respectful, non-judgemental, etc - always lots of free parking - the gym is steady, but never overly busy, which is a perfect balance for a sustainable gym business with happy members - you can even check the Anytime Fitness app to see when the busier times are so you can work your schedule around that, if you care to do so. This place gets an easy 5-star rating and it is very well deserved :)

Expérience fantastique: I've been coming to this location for about a year and it's been fantastic. The location is close to my place of work so I come on my lunch hour, which is super convenient. The gym is always clean, even the washrooms! The equipment is great with full selection of weights, squat racks, benches, and calisthenics equipment. There are also numerous treadmills and other cardio machines. If you want a clean, safe place to workout, you need to check this gym out. You won't regret it. As a plus, you can workout at other Anytime locations, which is convenient when traveling.

Expérience fantastique: It's a very nice little gym, and the staff are excellent. It is expensive. And theres a fair number of people that just sit on several pieces of equipment at once while on their phone.

We are certainly more of a "neighborhood gym" due to our size. Yes, we are more expensive and we offer exclusive 24/7 access, member support, and free Personal Training to all our members to set them up for success with their membership. If there are any specific members who do this please don't hesitate to let the Club Manager or Assistant Manager know & we will politely ask that they be more timely with the equipment during peak hours. We've made an effort to put the "Gym Etiquette 101" on the front Member Board to ask members to be aware of their time using equipment during our busier times. If you have any other feedback or questions our office door is always open.

Do yourself a favour and try one of the other local Anytime Fitness locations. On par with a motel gym.

This means we have much less busy times than typical gyms, as no one is rushing to get in during "gym" hours. Expérience négative: Horrible contract terms. Be careful about training contracts. Training sessions are provided under another sub-contract. If customer wants to stop taking new training sessions within a contract timeframe, they would freeze the account for a limited time and once you forget about it, just before the end of training contract, you’ll be surprised with new charges and they don’t refund. I was even asked to trade the sessions with other gym members! I chose this place because it was close to my work. Trainer was professional. I respected the contract and based on the contract policy I requested termination over a month before end date. Also had requested the trainer to stop allocating any new training sessions (been asking since second month and contract was only three month) and had clearly mentioned I don’t want new sessions anymore. Yet the contract got dragged to another three months (renewed without my knowledge still in freeze mode) and I was charged $330 just 30 days before end of gym contract (not training contract) and if I had’t complained, they were about to charge another $330.
My name is Nate (the Regional Manager), and you and I had been talking about this situation. I wanted to follow up on your review, as I believe your feedback is important but also because I was caught off-guard, as I thought we had reached a solution with your personal training that was ok with us both. I am disappointed and surprised to see you leave one 1-star review after we worked hard to accommodate you? However, we understand that life can happen, so we offered to freeze your personal training payments to allow you to focus on your current situation. Keep in mind, our trainers depend on you honouring the agreement as part of their paycheck. So, this is not normal for us, as you can imagine. However, we did this because we wanted to help, and we try to always be more than just a business and go above and beyond for our clients and members. In the end, we broke our own policies to help you out and we cancelled your agreement prior to the full commitment. As you know, we could have held you to the full contract value. Honestly, no other gym would have accommodated and helped you like we did. To help you understand why, I’ve outlined what happened below. As you know, your personal training agreement was emailed to you when you signed it. You mentioned “the training sessions are provided under another sub-contract,” but that is not the case, as we had already talked about together. You’ve always had the full agreement on hand since you first joined up… so you know it’s all in there. It’s really no different than any other personal training agreement at any other gym. They’re all pretty standard and similar. Originally, you decided (and were excited for) a 3-month personal training package with one of our certified trainers. At some point you decided you were too busy to use your training sessions. As you agreed, you were responsible for that agreement and our trainers depend on that for their paycheck. We tried to help by freezing your payments, temporarily. You said you understood the agreement and understood the freeze was temporary. When an agreement is frozen, it extends the agreement to match the original length, but it doesn’t void those months that were frozen, as you know. You may have forgotten it eventually would come off the freeze, but we had explained that thoroughly. Then, after much back and forth, we agreed to let you fully cancel the contract. Something we rarely do unless they are outstanding circumstances. So we did everything we could to help you. In the end, I think that’s why I’m so disappointed with the 1-star review. I went above and beyond to help you, and in the end, you got a very good deal.
Expérience fantastique: This 5star review is just for Scott the amazing and knowledgeable trainer in this gym, but the gym itself is 3-4out of five, why? Since it's too busy during peak time even 6-8 AM and you have to change your program or wait. At least two times I left the gym immediately because it was too crowded and still they are registering new clients. Certainly I won't register after my year ends.
Thanks Hedayat. We are so lucky to have Scott as part of our personal training team, he's amazing. Have you tried using the AF App, with the "busy meter?" It shows you how many people are in the gym at any time. It's perfect for getting to the gym when it's less busy.

Expérience fantastique: I joined AF NV last May and I still love going every week! The staff are amazing and always ready to jump in and help when needed. There is a great sense of community at this gym, which I love. The equipment and space is really clean and well spaced out, which makes working out here easy at any time of the day!

Hi Tristan, I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience with us and we apologize for that. With regards to how it happened, we were just following up with you, the same as we do with all people who are interested in our gym. We certainly didn't mean to bug you. As you remember, we had been chatting together over text and you decided to come in for a tour on Feb 4 at 11am. You were interested in the gym, we talked about our personal training and you told us you were trying to find the best option/fit for yourself. To follow-up after your visit, we sent you a message to see how it went and get some feedback. Here was the message we sent... "Hi Tristan, thanks for taking the time to stop by the gym on Saturday! What did you think of our club?" According to your review, it seems like you didn't want to be contacted by us after the tour but we didn't know that at the time. We try to make it very easy to OPT OUT of any communications with us, but you didn't do that so we didn't know. We pride ourselves on not being one of those "pushy or salesy" types of gyms. Either way, we're sorry we weren't the right fit for you and apologize for the poor experience with us. We wish you all the best and success on your fitness journey!
Expérience fantastique: Joined in 2023 having previously tried a number of the big gyms. The equipment is new, clean and well-maintained, the staff is friendly and the location is perfect for me. Appreciate the hours of availability and I look forward to trying out some of the other locations this year!

Expérience positive: Good location, has all the amenities and proper equipment, staff are friendly and the hours of operation are extremely convenient. I also found that the members at this gym are extremely friendly/helpful and there is a sense of community here that a lot of other big box gyms lack. However, I wasn’t a fan of locking in a 1 year contract right off the bat and the membership price is bit steep for what you get… the location is small so if you go at peak times (between 4-7) it’s hard to get a spot on some of the equipment. Would totally recommend to beginners or people looking to get into fitness.

Expérience négative: extremely overpriced. Floor space is small - there's no room to workout because the floor space can only hold 4 people at a time. I understand there are different locations to go to but most people go to this one because it's in the area. I'm not going to sign up for a gym that's convenient for me only to go to another gym in Coquitlam to get my monies worth. If that's the case i'll pay the exact price of a membership and personal trainer at Anytime Fitness and go to Equinox and get everything and more. Edit: I didn't say this was the Coquitlam location I said I don't want to have to go to another location to get my monies worth, like going to coquitlam from NorthVan. I have toured and I have been at this gym. It's terrible.
Hi J, We always appreciate feedback, so thank you for taking the time to review us. However, this is not the Coquitlam location. This is the North Vancouver location. In all our locations, we have a limited number of members, which means we are much less crowded than other big box gyms and rec centres, and there is always space for our amazing trainers to work with their clients. As you only did a short tour with us, I think if you decide to become a member you'll see why our members LOVE us, and why we have so many 5-Star reviews (over 170 5-STAR reviews). Also, when you join you get 24-HOUR ACCESS to ALL 5,000 AF clubs! We have OVER 35 clubs in the lower mainland (including 2 on the north shore, 2 downtown, to 3 in the Tri-Cities, lots in Burnaby, all the way out to Surrey, Abby, Mission, Chilliwack, Kelowna, Kamloops and many, many more). Anytime Fitness is every where in BC and you get to use them ALL! Hopefully this helps clear up some of the confusion. We'd love to have you have as a member but we totally understand if we're not a fit for you. All the best in your fitness journey - Nick (local owner)
