Expérience négative: Disappointing and Unacceptable Experience |PF- Black Card Member |Nanaimo|BC I am writing to share a deeply disappointing experience on 17Dec‘24 , My husband and I had at Planet Fitness in Nanaimo. During our visit , an employee named ” Matt” approached us multiple times to remind us that the gym closes at 11:00 PM. While we acknowledged this during his first reminder, he continued to approach us repeatedly, reiterating the same point in a manner that felt unnecessary and intrusive. As we were preparing to leave, he followed us toward the washrooms and made a remark suggesting that we should “use common sense” to leave before closing time. This comment, along with his overall tone and behavior, was both rude and unprofessional. Furthermore, he repeatedly threatened to cancel our membership and even suggested that we would be removed from the premises. Such behavior felt entirely unwarranted and unacceptable. This is not the first issue we have encountered with this particular staff member. We previously brought his behavior to the manager’s attention, but unfortunately, no action was taken to address the situation. My husband and I feel that we were subjected to discriminatory treatment by this employee, in contrast to the respectful and courteous interactions we have had with other staff members. While we fully understand and respect gym policies, including closing times, this type of treatment is frustrating, disheartening, and inappropriate. As loyal customers, we believe it is reasonable to expect professionalism and respect from all staff members. I intend to share this experience on multiple social media platforms, as I found this behaviour both disrespectful and discriminating. I hope Planet Fitness takes this feedback seriously and implements measures to ensure that no other members are subjected to such treatment in the future. PF-BlackCard Member

Expérience négative: They canceled my membership without telling me. Found out when I came in to work out. Was threatened I owe them money and had to pay late fees. Months later, after moving, they would not let me cancel my membership over the phone or online. The people over the phone would sigh and stop listening to me when trying to set up a method to cancel.

Expérience négative: fine gym until it comes to trying to cancel a membership or receiving information about when payments are happening. management was not available over the phone to cancel and did not return phone calls. had to go in on multiple occasions

Expérience fantastique: I enjoy the Black Card membership because for 1 reason, I can bring a friend whenever I'd like which helps me stay accountable and enjoy some social time while I workout. Also , I enjoy the clean, organized and positive energy in this environment. The staff are very polite, friendly and attentive. Also the massage chairs are amazing. There are just so many features about the membership that make it worth having. I have signed up 3 times, one for each city I lived in and I find it very consistent as well. One of the reasons I like the Black Card is that when I travel to the states, there is a US planet fitness gym near my mom's house, and I am allowed to go there with the Black Card. It's affordable and completely worth every cent spent. I've tried many gyms and did my research to compare and contrast the services with the value of the membership price. And Planet Fitness in my books seems to win everytime.

Expérience fantastique: Needed a gym to work out at while working in Nanaimo for a few months and Planet Fitness met all my needs! I 100% recommend. Special shout out to the manager and staff that were always super welcoming and friendly. The gym was always very clean as well. I had to cancel my membership today as my work in Nanaimo is done and even that was a pain free experience. Thanks for everything!

The place is clean, and the layout of everything is excellent. And the price is mind-blowingly great!! I would highly recommend it to anyone!

The staff are super welcoming, friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is non-intimidating and comfortable. The variety of equipment is fabulous. The tanning beds and massage chairs are a wonderful treat. As I am new, there are still more services I look forward to enjoying. I can actually say I now look forward to going to the gym again! SO thankful!

Expérience négative: DO NOT SUPPORT THIS GYM - The corporate managers are BREAKING BC law and watching the cameras at this gym 24/7, confirmed by its own management and employees. This company has had a history of doing this to micro manage there employees and a former corporate manager was even fired over it. BC’s privacy and information laws make it abundantly clear this is a no no. You need permits to have cameras in any public building, and a reason to have them. It is disgusting that the big manager man and all his own managers are watching the cameras in lieu of paying a manager to supervise but also for all of us as members to have our privacy invaded in such a gross way. It shows how the owning company Tower Brook as an American majority run entity has the intelligence of a dodo and has no knowledge on Canadian law. Ive already reported them to the BC privacy and informations office and they will be doing a formal investigation

Expérience négative: I was not going to write a review however that changed after a discussion broke out with a group of guys in the locker room last week, about the lack of servicing of broken equipment at our PF location in Nanaimo. One example we cringed about, was their stationary bikes, 60% of them have been "Temporarily out of order" since before covid, YES thats 4 YEARS, out of order. Our PF location doesn't seem to fix non working equipment, maybe too much staff or manager turnover?

Expérience positive: Looks OK.... but I went in to buy 2 black memberships. I wanted to prepay for a year. They flat out refused. Said only monthly payments. I don't want a monthly payment. I want to prepay for a year at a time. $409 x2 just walked out. Pretty dumb to not take our money. Thats a non starter for me. Guess I'll find somewhere else.

Expérience négative: Pretty unreasonable cancellation policy, I’m from Campbell River but was making quite a few trips to Nanaimo for work 2 summers ago. So I signed up at planet fitness. Things changed and I wasn’t making as many trips. I called planet fitness to cancel my membership and they told me the only way to cancel was in person, pretty inconvenient considering I live in Campbell River. In my opinion there’s only one reason for an inflexible policy like this… to collect unwarranted monthly fees. I sure hope in the future planet fitness finds a way to fix this policy.

Expérience fantastique: I respect, admire, and LIKE the gym manager, Valentine (a lot). I like the staffing he has hired, as well. On entering or leaving, members are greeted with a smile (unlike so many other Nanaimo gyms).The club is immaculately clean, supplies are regularly refreshed. Pricing is affordable and the equipment is good.Plus, I am a "rules" person — and I like the rules on which the Planet Fitness business model is founded!

Expérience fantastique: Every piece of equipment, free weights, tanning beds, massage chairs and some red light to help with muscles after a workout. Free app workouts that coordinate with the space and equipment! I highly recomd this space and business!

Several tanning booths , state of the art enhancement beds . Large clean bathrooms with several shower and change room stalls. The perks go on and on . I will be a member of planet fitness forever !

Expérience fantastique: The location of this gym was in a good spot and definitely easy to get to. All the equipment was spaced out appropriately and in good working order but once again the stretching area was a little on the small side. While I was there they were cleaning the gym, which is a good thing, but it was around 3PM so the gym was moderately busy. They were mopping the floors and leaving a lot of water behind which I saw lots of people make looks as they're walking around that it was slippery. I get that you have to clean the gym but doing so when it's that busy and leaving that much water on the floor can end up being a hazard. Other than that the bathrooms were good overall and showers were definitely clean. The only complaint I had was the low flow shower heads were really high on the wall which made taking an efficient shower kind of difficult. I understand saving water but when the shower head is so high that it doesn't reach you that well it kind of defeats the purpose since I took longer to wash off. However I'm not taking stars off for that or the cleaning since they were doing their jobs but definitely something the management should think about in the future. Overall I would visit this location again.

Expérience fantastique: I was curious to what this gym has to offer and went in to get a tour. I was greeted by Kam, one of the instructors. He was very enthusiastic about their concept which is all about recovery and he gave me an excellent tour. One of the things that stood out for me was the black zone: Jet massage chairs, a recovery light/vibration pad, tanning beds and stand-up tanning, massage chairs. I am used to training with free weights so for me to see mainly machines was a bit new. Kam told me that he too was used to training with free weights prior to joining Planet Fitness, but after two years of training here made really good gains. I decided to give it a go and so far l am LOVING it here. Highly recommended!

Expérience positive: Lots of equipment & cardio machines. Free weight section is very small and there are only smith machines no free bars. Would like to have seen 2+ leg press machines as the wait times get a little silly. Staff are hit & miss, some are super helpful & friendly and some are clearly not enjoying/doing their job. I enjoyed the large mat/stretching section. Would be nice to have more mirrors as it is hard to check form on different exercises without them.

Expérience négative: Yea during covid I couldn't ho cause I wasn't vaccinated but they still charged me and now I'm vaccinated but haven't gone and tried to cancel my membership but they won't cancel it and now threatened to send me to collections over 500 bucks . Absolutely disgusting and wouldn't tell anyone to go there . The management is a bunch of goofs .

Love that this gym is geared towards the average person that is just trying to stay fit or get fit and discourages gymtimidation and lunkers. It’s nice not to be alarmed by weights being slammed on the floor as in our previous gym. Much more peaceful atmosphere at Planet Fitness!

Expérience négative: It’s a nice facility, however, it’s extremely inconvenient that they close at 7pm on weekends. This is the time when everyone is not working and would like access to the gym. It’s not much use being open while all of your clients are at work during the week and closed when they are not.

Expérience fantastique: Judgement free unless you are a lunk which is a made up term to shame big dudes that push themselves, drink water and wear tanktops... Or if you are a P.E. teacher with an annoying whistle. The place has weird passive agressive 'motivating' statements posted all over the place. They claim to cater to older people but dont accept cash... oh, and waaay too many cardio machines, never have I seen even 50% of them used but the benches are always full because there are very few units. While I'm at it ...too much purple and not enough mirrors (form is very important). Staff is good but the corporate angle needs updating. Really their moto should be..'Planet Fitness...at least it's cheap'...even the local manager agreed that this is the real drawing factor.

Expérience positive: Great place, clean, no waits for machines. I do wish the weekend hours were longer, I'd like to be going after 7pm.

Expérience négative: Staff are incredibly rude. When we asked one of the staff members to show us the equipment and facility she snuffed at us and wouldn't give us a tour or even show us any of the equipment. I understand it's a smaller gym, but for someone who is not very knowledgeable with gym equipment, it would have been nice to get some sort of rundown. 11/10 do not recommend.

Expérience fantastique: Was hesitant about joining this gym, because it's a bit far from home, but glad I did. Inclusive, clean, friendly environment at a great price--less than half of the 24 hour gym I almost joined. The black card membership is worth it for the option of bringing a friend or family member for free as many times as you want! The only thing that would make this gym better is extended hours on the weekends. Even til 9:00 pm would make weekend workouts more doable.

I would really like to see longer weekend hours come back as it's common to work 7-7 in health care making it so I miss working out or have to spend money at another gym that is open earlier/later on weekends. *not 24 hours* Even friday hours or 7am-9pm would be a great improvement

I never feel judged coming back in a few months later. I just get to scan in on my phone and do my workout and I'm greeted with a smile on my way in and out. Can't recommend them enough
