Expérience positive: Under construction and equipment all over the place of the gym. Good child services tho for parents which is good.

Expérience négative: I haven’t been at the Y for a few months and needless to say I am VERY disappointed at the new layout. Why are we made to face a mirror when we’re doing cardio? It’s a shame the cardio machines were removed from the bright open space to the dungeon. Also why can’t there be spin bikes in that area? I’m told they’re in the basement. If memory serves, another dungeon. Please don’t offer me the other bikes with wide seats. Those are not bikes. The Fermor location WAS a good place. But not so anymore. Is there any information you can share to alleviate my concerns? I’m seriously reconsidering my membership.

Expérience positive: Has everything I need. Wi-Fi is really bad though.

Expérience négative: Brought 3 out of town guests early this morning, Sept 30 after checking website indicating facility open. Only sign on window indicated holiday hours from 7AM to 5 PM. Waited 40 min with the hope of 8 AM opening . No such luck. Very embarrassed for our guests. Please post your hours accurately.

Expérience positive: So it's a nice place, but they have cockroaches in the lockers. One hitched a ride back to my place, thank God it as a male.

Expérience fantastique: The admin team for YMCA ( Catherine Tina ) and the Staff ( reception and Support ) at the Fermore YMCA are great in helping and supporting the members. We had some issue with the cancellation of our children membership due to some personal reasons and the team YMCA + Fermore helped us in getting the quick and the right solution. Their empathetic and supportive approach is highly appreciable. Thank you, you guys do a great job !!

Expérience négative: So disappointed that there is no babysitting option as they kept promising it will be in the place early this year. Since February they have been telling me that they are working on hiring someone and it's September now and nothing yet. I had to drive all the way to Kildonan because of that

Expérience fantastique: We have done many of the ymca camps for our kids and all have been phenomenal. But the staff at the camp, my son attended this week, were truly, one of a kind. There is one staff member in particular (though all are amazing) that is really so special. He has such a way with the children. He is extremely kind, courteous, and fun. I don’t know his name, he is tall, has dark hair that is back in a ponytail that is kind of wavy/curly. He’s the definition of a gentle giant. We are so grateful for YMCA and how they have supported us as we are going threw some very serious health issues with our family. We really appreciate the kind, safe and fun environment that you have created for our children. We look forward to many more years and many more camps with you.

Expérience positive: Pros: 1. Good place to make some new friends and acquaintances (but see below). Very diverse crowd, from newcomers to the elderly, and said to be the city's busiest Y. 2. One of the few gyms that also has a hot tub, steam room and pool. 3. Good staff. If you're a regular, you'll likely be on a first-name basis with a few. 4. The Y does a lot of good community service work, so by going there, you're also supporting a good cause. 5. Good hours and location. 6. Stable fees. No contracts subject to sharp price hikes on renewal, no pressure to pay extra for upgrades. Membership valid for all city Ys. Cons: 1. Social scene isn't what it used to be. Nor is the quality of the steam room/hot tub conversation. Many "after work" people disappeared after the pandemic, though some remain. Crowd skews more toward students, family groups and retirees now. 2. Showers and locker rooms showing a lot of wear and tear. Steam room tepid, as are the showers sometimes. 3. A little too "family friendly". Kids run rampant. Some adults have switched gyms in search of a more adult-friendly vibe. 4. Pool and hot tub prone to closure due to foulings. Anything that breaks down -- equipment, WiFi -- is probably going to be out of commission for a couple of weeks.

Expérience positive: The place is nice, good pools and all. But the Change rooms could use a LOT of improvement.

Expérience négative: Just waited in line for 25 minutes for the pool. Finally got to the front of the line and my son had a tantrum so his dad took him outside to calm down. I went to get them for the picture and we were skipped. After all that wait, and I already paid to get in. They couldn’t issue a refund because no manager on duty. Only one person was working at the front.. HORRIBLE service for my first time there in years!!

Expérience négative: Great pool and kid's area. Locker and weight rooms are absolutely filthy though.

Expérience positive: Good place to hangout, study, and workout. Usually go there for basketball. The wellness centre is well equipped with various machines and easy to use. The reason why I give a three star is because my basketball got stolen by someone in the gym during me getting water. There are cameras in the gym but not accessible for people except police. I recently cancelled my membership and decided not to go there for a while.

Expérience fantastique: I started working out at the Y a few months ago and am impressed by the friendliness of everyone I've encountered. The classes offered are challenging and regardless of age or experience there's something for everyone.

Expérience positive: We are really looking forward to the big 2024 reno. I do find the Y incredibly expensive. We go primarily for swimming lessons and the newer $30 charge for lessons on top of the $120 monthly charge is incredibly steep considering we really only use the Y for the lessons. But Andrea! Andrea is fantastic! They have lots of great swim teachers but Andrea is simply fantastic with both teaching and with kids in general. My shy kids love her and are so comfortable with her. I wish we could find more time you attend the Y to make the monthly charge feel more realistic. The kids play area is really fantastic. As always, getting lesson (swimming, gymnastics, anything) is a highly stressful process, but all other swim programs are, too. Many of our friends don't make it into the programs they want, either. I've never been able to get my kids in gymnastics so they take a class outside the Y. More added cost since at the Y that would have been part of our membership.

Expérience fantastique: Absolutely love this place. The selection of weights are great, the pool is nice, the gym is perfect for all sports, and the staff are hands down some of the friendliest and most accommodating people around.

Expérience négative: 1.Totally USELESS never answer their phone lines 2.What if it was an emergency and you can't get a hold of anyone at this place nor any other location. 3.Online registrations Process is just as Useless and you end up loosing the spots available. so much more to write but ain't going to waste my time anymore.

Expérience positive: The facility is clean and the fitness classes are enjoyable with fun instructors. Knocking a few stars off because: 1. The parking lot/entrance situation is ridiculous. The parking lot and sidewalk are routinely extremely slippery in the winter, and walking all the way around the building is both cold and treacherous even if some extra grip has been thrown down. It makes no sense to enter at the front, and there are days I have been terrified of falling (I have a previous knee injury that I don't want to re-injure). One day in the winter, someone is going to fall and seriously hurt themselves. 2. The lack of private change rooms is a huge miss. I'm not comfortable changing in the open, and find myself using the handicapped shower stall even though I'm not handicapped just for some extra space so I can get dressed in there in private after using the pool.

Expérience fantastique: Most affordable gym, swimming pool and Sauna in Winnipeg. You also get to use the pool and sauna anytime you want unlike other places I have used. I love YMCA

Expérience positive: Pool is a little bit unsanitary. Workout Gym is absolutely amazing. Indoor Gym is great for basketball. Summer camps are sometimes not so good for the kids. Playground is great.

Expérience positive: It's good. The slides in the pool will hurt your adult back a bit, and the pool entry is fast - so be prepared for pool snot. But the hot tub and steam room are nice. They keep the air temperature in the pool area pretty cold (probably just the massive windows bleeding heat). Note the floor height in the pool can be adjusted - but I don't think they ever allow diving. There are two pools; the shallow one was warm like bathwater, so comfy for young kids. The changerooms are excellent. We used the family one which made it easy as a solo parent with both gender children. The kids play structure is for up to age 10; which causes some limitations for kids age 11 as I believe the exercise room is 12+. When we were there half the gymnasium was in use for a birthday and the other half had basketball but the nets were all set at 10 feet, with a bunch of teenagers. The cycling room looks good, if you can get to a class (the times listed seemed good for stay at home parents only?). Didn't get to use the weight room as my 7 year old was with us. I believe they have some 9+ instruction, so will have to see what that's about.

Expérience négative: Went there on December 9, 2023. I came at 5:40 pm - 7:30 pm, there were kids everywhere in the weight room and machines with employees who were cleaning up that didn’t say anything to them. There was also a girl coming into the men’s washroom around 7:40 pm claiming she was a boy, when clearly I saw she wasn’t. She came with a male native teenager who was bewildered when I told them that girls aren’t allowed in the men’s locker room, twice. The only staff that were present was cleaning, front desk, and lifeguard staff. This is a management problem but not my problem anymore, I will be working out at home from now. How is it a girl is allowed to be in the men’s locker room but a man isn’t allowed in the woman’s locker room? Double standards. Go somewhere else, this place stinks. Too many kids misbehaving and their parents suck at parenting.

YMCA in the South is like the grinch who stole my daughter's birthday...I paid for my daughter's birthday party and clearly communicated the date...The receptionist booked the wrong date in error... no compensation refund or even consideration was given to us...they have no idea how hard it was to even come with that money in the first place... because of them my baby will not have a birthday party... Twist to my story I later went to the Downtown branch and the Manager was so accommodating and understanding and arranged for my daughter to have her birthday party... I say this with tears in my eyes...I really appreciate you for the great Management and leadership skills you possess... You make things happen! We need more people like you in the world... God richest blessings! Thank you!

Expérience fantastique: Bathrooms are seperate from others, has a Family Change Room, a Kiddie Pool, a new Playground for your little ones and it's affordable for $15-19 dollars! (per family) As well, it's really clean.

Expérience fantastique: My child attends daycare here and she absolutely loves it. The staff is super great with daily updates and always keeping everyone in the loop for any changes. With the activities that are provided here, my daughter has been able to participate and figuring out the things she truly loves (painting is always #1 in her heart). I suggest anyone who is looking for a daycare facility, to definitely check out YMCA Fermor!

Expérience négative: Went to the indoor playroom. There is a sign on the door that parents are supposed to watch their children. Another child threw massive blocks and hit my child knocking my child down, no parents watching their children. This play area should be monitored this is a safety hazard to children. Staff was completely unhelpful.

Expérience négative: Don’t bother with the steam room. Lifeguards allow it to be used as a children’s play room and shut it down if it becomes slightly warm.

Expérience positive: Great place in the neighbourhood, nice for the kids swimming lessons the teachers are really nice, and patient, the new gym is nice and big and bright and the kids new playground is great for little kids to run around and have a great time.

Expérience fantastique: If you're looking for a good gym, I highly recommend Ymca Fermor branch. The gym is always clean and well-maintained, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The available equipment is always in great condition, and the gym offers a variety of classes and services, like personal training and group workouts. I've been a member for years and could not be happier with my experience. Highly recommend! Special mention to Mr. Ivan Sarmiento exceptional fitness instructor who is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about helping people reach their goals. He is always extremely patient and attentive, offering me expert advice and encouragement. Kudos..

Expérience négative: My family and I went for family swim today which starts at 3:30. When we arrived a note on the front desk informed us they were closing early at 5 which we decided would be fine and enough time for us to swim. Maybe 10 minutes after we got ourselves (including 3 small children) changed and into the pool did a woman who worked there start frantically running around the pool area counting people. She then went to stand at one end of the pool and yelled at everyone that 10 people need to volunteer to leave or everyone would have to leave. She waited 2 minutes and reissued her threat and then proceeded to shutdown the entire pool and told everyone to leave. We were then informed at the front desk that they cannot issue us a refund for the $34 they charged us for 10 minutes of pool time. In the changeroom a member shared that this is the second time that this has happened to them. I'd like to know why the staff are not regulating how many people enter the pool in the first place. How utterly unreasonable to open the pool for 10 minutes, declare it is over capacity, treat guests as if they are trash, scream at everyone and kick them out. My kids were so disappointed. This is unacceptable

Expérience négative: Very disappointed. The pool opened later than it should've then closed because of "legal reasons". Heard somewhere that the staff were trying to find an excuse to get ready for a staff party.

Expérience négative: Tied with portage place ymca for the Worst facility . Constant issues with aquatic center being closed to the public . Steam room is large , but when it gets hot life guards close. Poor layout of the free weights make this location undesirable .

Expérience fantastique: I had scheduled an appointment for the e-gym orientation only to find out when I arrived that the instructor had called in sick shortly before my appointment. The staff were very helpful and I rescheduled but then another instructor overheard what had happened and quickly stepped up and offered to do the orientation with me. Ivan Sarmiento was the instructor and he was awesome! He was so encouraging throughout the whole orientation and made me feel very comfortable. It has been years since I have been at the gym but now I’m excited to come back and use the e-gym. Thanks Ivan for all your help!

Expérience négative: I’m really disappointed. I cancelled my membership 1 and half month ago. After this they charged me 4 times. When they charged me first time after cancellation I went there and told them I already cancelled why you charged me then ? They said they refund me. 4 days ago realized they charged me total 3 times. I went they 3 days ago I told them why it’s happening? Since i cancelled my membership. Today they are charged me again. They didn’t give me any solution and when I asked for my refund they said they refund me but don’t know how long it gonna take? Is that joke? I was really nice to staff last two times. But they charged me again and again. No solution yet!!! My question is why they charged me again and again. Is this my fault? Of course it’s not my fault. I need my money back. staff need to be trained again, how to service to the customer!!

Expérience fantastique: I went here as a drop in with a friend of mime Saturday morning for a zumba and abs class. The front receptionist was a joy and went above and beyond for me! I really appreciate good customer service and the receptinists service certainly has me considering a full time membership! I forgot to grab their name but the receptionist that worked April 9th at 9:15am is fabulous !

Expérience fantastique: This is considered our second home, my children attend several classes, swimming, martial arts and dance. We have been coming to this YMCA since 2007, the staff are all friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating and make you feel at home. I personally use their gym regularly and in the past I’ve used the free personal training sessions, where I met with a trainer who set me up with an eight weeks programme and showed me exactly how to do each exercise. It’s a wonderful place.

Expérience positive: Overall very happy with this gym!! Switched here because my previous gym had minimal equipment/space. Membership is a good price and you get access to the pool and fitness classes also. Only “negative” is that sometimes they have multiple fitness classes happening at once and it takes up a good amount of gym space. However, I am usually still able to work around it. :)

Expérience positive: Overall, I find this “Y” to be wonderful. It has great workout equipment and a large variety of classes/times to choose from. Everything you could want from a workout facility. The only reason I give it a four out of five stars is because there is one individual at the service desk who is not customer oriented. When stressed her manner is not helpful. For example, if registration is happening she does not allow regular members to scan through. Not sure why she cannot do so because other desk personnel have done so. Most gyms have a system like this in place during peak periods for people who are regular members.

Expérience positive: Disrespectful service. Tried suspending my membership today and was not helped and the staff was very rude and apathetic. The only reason this review is not a one star review is because I've been a member at this branch for years and for the most part it was okay. The facility itself is big and pretty clean for the most part but the staff doesn't know the schedule and does not set up gymnasium until 5-10 mins after the the activity is actually scheduled. Edit: After writing this review, I was promptly helped out. Lady on the phone was very kind and empathetic. thank you

Expérience positive: I work with adult with disability and was dissatisfied with the fact the you have no access for larger people to get in and out of pools. Elm wood has stairs that can be walked down. What are the chances that the south location can get the same accessibility. MM

Expérience fantastique: Overall, our family prefers the Elmwood YMCA for most things. However, the workout area can not be beat. The building is always clean and well staffed. Not saying anything is wrong here... we just prefer Elmwood as a matter of preference.
