Bolder Climbing Community: Avis
Expérience fantastique: Bolder is a great place to start climbing. The gym is really fun and staff are super helpful. Denise really helped me get going!
Expérience fantastique: This is a great place. I started rock climbing not so long ago. And it's a really cool pastime, especially if you have like-minded people. It's much more fun in great company.
Expérience fantastique: Great gym friendly staff and environment to be in. Changes routes every week so there is always something new to work on. Great diversity of grades for all types of climbers. Decent price for a 10 drop in pass and membership pass.
Expérience fantastique: Really fun and challenging obstacles. Great atmosphere. My goto for climbing
Expérience fantastique: Didn't go , but there sure have good reviews
Expérience fantastique: Love the atmosphere and layout of the facility! It’s always super clean, everyone takes turns at the wall and encourages each other. There’s a great warmup area upstairs. There are lots of options for memberships or one time passes so everyone can climb!
Expérience fantastique: Was just visiting Calgary but glad I was able to drop by. Really enjoyed the problems at this gym. Facility is nice and clean.
Expérience fantastique: Had a great experience here, the front desk clerk has great customer service
Expérience fantastique: Prime setting up to the higher grades. Moon 2024 for training Great taste of music! Ended up getting a shirt cause the vibe hit all the spots.
Expérience positive: Friendly staff, familiar atmosphere, good vibes and some very motivating climbing. It felt a little unfair though to have to take off your shoes direct at the entrance while soccer mom was allowed in with 4 (!) kids that ran all up and over the place in street shoes for two hours straight.
We are so happy to hear you enjoyed your time climbing! We are sorry you were told to remove your shoes when others hadn't. Shoe removal is more of a winter rule (because of the snow), we are sorry that was not well communicated to you. We will try to do better!
Expérience fantastique: Excellent and consistent route setting. Good variety of skill levels on the wall. Good mutually supportive vibe as almost always seems to be the case in the climbing community. Will climb here again next time through town
Thank you for the kind words and we're so glad you had a good session! See you next time!
Expérience fantastique: Great resets and friendly staff. Amazing environment for meeting new friends.
Thanks so much for the review! We are glad you enjoyed your climb!
Expérience positive: Best boulder setting in the city! Unlike the other Gym in town this doesn’t feel like a corporate factory of classes taking up the facility. The music on the other hand. Not all of us enjoy UK Rap, and using head phones doesn’t work as the music is so loud.
Expérience fantastique: Love climbing here. My friend and I go 2-3 times per week when I'm not working out of town. Finally got a one year membership. All the staff are really friendly and welcoming.
Expérience fantastique: Climbing is my new addiction! It's tough to meet new people and make friends, but I've met more friends bouldering this past month than I have in the past 10 years!
Expérience fantastique: My wife and I love climbing here. Great staff, fun routes. The only thing that could make it better is different music. The hard rap gets old and some positive, upbeat music might be fun sometimes.
Expérience fantastique: Brought two 7 year olds thay loved it. Staff was friendly and amazing. I want to go back myself!
Expérience fantastique: Excellent facility. Bouldering seems small but the routes are reset quite frequently with difficulty level that are fair. Because of this without any rigorous training I find myself improving. Engaged and friendly staff.
Expérience fantastique: My personal preference for indoor climbing. Both locations have perhaps the best interior layout and climbing routes and all around serve a young, lively atmosphere. (Also they never miss with the music taste)
Expérience fantastique: Love this gym! Coming from out of town, I was blown away by all their routes. Lots of v0-V3!
Expérience fantastique: Both of the Bolder gyms are the best in town for bouldering by far! Love them both! Especially love elevated due to it being closer to home
Expérience fantastique: Good walls, nicely organized. Great staff, very kind.
Expérience positive: Best bouldering in the city by far. Super clean facility with a good variety of climbing styles in their sets. Staff are all super friendly. Decent coffee as well, but not my personal favourite.
Expérience fantastique: Love Bolder! I have started climbing more at their Elevated location, but this gym is great. If I had one criticism: I wish they played fun music here again. The other location has some great tunes that really makes it a blast to climb there.
Expérience fantastique: Great facility - tons of variation for all skill levels. I’m very much a beginner climber but I always have a good time here.
Expérience fantastique: Great gym! Good setting (a little soft imo), friendly staff, fine workout and seating areas. Resetting is frequent, and they seem to put on events quite frequently! They have a good variety of beverages and climbing products for sale as well. A moonboard, and a good spray wall with community-set problems on the Stokt app put the cherry on top of this gym, making it one of the best in Calgary. One critique: the bass level of their acoustic system is deafening.
Expérience positive: Routes were great, nice atmosphere, but the air was super chalky/dusty. I've been to many climbing gyms, so I understand there's always chalk in the air, but this was a bit much for me personally. I would still go again though!
Expérience fantastique: Foster and Patrick are hands down the most welcoming staff. Highly recommend Saturday mornings here. It's great vibes.
Expérience fantastique: Straight up incredible. Huge facility, top of line walls and equipment. As an intermediate west coast climber, most of the climbs in AB are rated pretty generously allowing new and intermediate climbers to conquer the majority of the climbs. I love it cause it gives you access to exploring the entire setup. My favourite gym for sure.
Expérience négative: Today, I came with a group of moms and homeschooled children all under 10. The place was clean, staff were OK but the MUSIC was so loud and completely inappropriate considering it was right after mom and tot time and there's still a big group of kids. Swearing every other word and disgusting rap lyrics. There were more kids than adults climbing in the whole gym. So unprofessional and disrespectful. First time and last time visiting!
Expérience fantastique: Great variety of problems, great music choice, a good cafe, nice Rocky Mountain soap co. Soap and lotion?? This place is great. I wish they had a NW location so I could go more often.
Expérience fantastique: Awesome climbing gym. Nice atmosphere and fun problems.
Expérience fantastique: Super fun! Extremely clean, staff super friendly and happy. The old outed are changing often. It’s a great environment to climb and socialize. The music is pumped and fun. Highly recommend!
Expérience négative: First time visiting. Gym was clean, decent settings. Complete lack of a safety orientation is off putting. Staff completely disengaged and preoccupied with texting. Asked for a safety check for top roping and was told our group couldn't be seen to be discussing different ways to tie knots or practicing in any way. As such, we were not able to have a safety check but only able to use the auto belay. (absolutely zero explanation on how to use those safely from staff) As the staff really weren't engaged in anything we were doing otherwise, I am not really sure why a discussion on ways things could be done was such critical failure in our day. Our group has climbed a fair amount in the past so we generally know climbing safety rules but someone with no experience could get seriously hurt here. Do better, I hope that this was a one off and not your normally way you operate.
Expérience fantastique: The staff are soooo friendly, especially the cool lady. She gave loads of info and recs for the merch I was buying. They sell climbing accessories from bags to even shoes, and some shirts. The gym is pretty decent-sized. There is a space for working out with pullup bars and weights; a splash wall is there; so is a moonboard; there is a large slab wall; overhanging routes; loads of vertical walls; there is also a cute mini wall with some fascinating routes; and an endurance wall. Interestingly, the gym houses a cafe as well! Very cool.
Expérience fantastique: Drove down for a weekend in Calgary and ending up meeting up with friends for an afternoon rock climbing session. Friendly staff, nice clean facility and good vibes. We don't really climb regularly but we enjoyed it!
Expérience positive: This place is good for a quick visit, it's clean with friendly staff, and high quality walls and mats. The reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because I find it too small for the grade range it has. Because it goes from V0 to V12 it has very few sets of each grade, for a visit it was fine but I wouldn't want this to be my home gym as it would get boring quick.
Expérience fantastique: I absolutely love the atmosphere in this gym. I have met many of my friends climbing here. Not only that, the staff has always been nice and welcoming. As for the boulder settings, I enjoy climbing here more than at the CCC gyms.
Expérience fantastique: The service and helpful of the staff are incredible here. Wherever you are they are ready to help and for questions. The climbs change periodically and make a challenge every time I come.
Expérience fantastique: I've been climbing here since April, and what I want to say is that this gym is incredible. Staff is always friendly and open for small conversations. They share your interests in climbing and are simply extremely nice when it comes to helping with anything. The routes are always fun to climb, and they are trying to use as many different holders for each difficultly level as possible. So it doesn't really matter if you're a beginner or more experienced climber you can find boulders to develop different skills and muscles as well. They also have a second gym that recently opened, which is located slightly remote from the downtown area, but still very fun to go there too, as their membership cover both gyms. I'm existed to be a part of this family
Expérience fantastique: I’ve been climbing here for almost a year and it’s such a great location. The staff are much friendlier than they ever were at CCC Rocky, and the regular climbers are always so nice as well. It feels way more like a climbing community
Expérience fantastique: Amazing gym, setting is very fun and movement flows well. Good balance between different styles of climbing. Staff also very welcoming
Expérience fantastique: I love my home gym! Y'all are so friendly! I enjoy the challenge
Expérience fantastique: Great for your ego if you're just visiting. Grades are rather soft (1+ full v-grades soft). Not so good for your ego if this is your home gym, haha
Expérience fantastique: Ccc has nothing on this place! This place is a great introduction into climbing, not overwhelming people with large and long climbs! Boldering is the perfect middle ground. I like to think of it like traditional rock climbing and parkour had a baby. Great vibes great community. Really grateful for what this place has given me.
Expérience positive: Decent gym. It has some cool features, but the small space, lack of lockers, lack of safety orientation, and odd method of using tape the colour of the holds instead of the colour of the grade to mark the finish (I know what colour the holds are, that's very clear. What I want to know is where the V6 ends) make it only a 3/5.
Expérience fantastique: What a great place to climb, staff are fantastic and walls are getting updated constantly to keep it fun and engaging! If you haven’t been here before you definitely need to check it out!
Expérience fantastique: Good vibes and fun setting! Definitely one of my favourite climbing gyms in Calgary!
Expérience fantastique: Love the setting here. Challenging and fun. Amazing community and atmosphere. Good music and coffee. They serve alcoholic bevvies that you can order post-climb. Highly recommend their Bolder & Beats nights! Can’t wait for their new gym down south to open.
Expérience positive: Great bouldering routes and friendly staff! Sometimes you even get to see cute dogs walking about. Only complaint is the music. A lot of the time it's vulgar and inappropriate. I wanted to invite my little cousins, but was worried about the music that would be playing.
Expérience fantastique: Friendly staff, great facility, interesting and varied boulder problems. Only issue is it's busy all the time because it's so nice and bouldering is so popular now
Expérience fantastique: What can I say. I love this place. It’s my sanctuary, my safe space, and my second home. Everyone here is so friendly and welcoming. The facility is great for climbing and fitness…not to mention thirst quenching needs. The setting is top notch, too.
Expérience fantastique: I don't have a lot of experience, but I wasn't made to feel that way by staff or patrons. I don't know how most of these places are run, but I hope it's like this.
Expérience positive: Overall a great climbing gym, while it is older looking it is still in great shape and has everything you would need to have a good climbing sesh. Great walls with lots of variety of problems, and good overhang wall as well. Clean bathrooms and lots of equipment if you need a gym (for a climbing gym). Has a gift shop and also a coffee bar. 4 stars because it's quite small compared to the other climbing gyms in the city. The new boulder elevated location is much bigger, the only downside is that it's far from the city center.
Expérience fantastique: Such a great place to get my introduction to climbing, very friendly staff and climbers, lots of different routes to climb and rotated on a regular basis. Super affordable compared to other gyms, with a very decent area for strength training and cardio. To top it off they have a nice little cafe and it’s very satisfying to have a coffee and watch others climb while I cool down. Couldn’t recommend enough and I bring a friend here with my monthly guest day pass as often as I can
Expérience fantastique: This is such a great spot for bouldering! I got a 1 year membership at this location earlier this year. The facility is clean, and the walls get reset on a bi-weekly schedule. The staff are wonderful people and so is everyone that comes by for some bouldering. They also host lady nights, and house music nights. Really good spot located on Macleod trail, close by Bulk Barn and Memory express.
Expérience fantastique: Had a great time, lots of different types of climbing walls. Good price and has helpful staff.
Expérience fantastique: I have loved this facility since I started going in 2017. The staff is respectful and professional, and they take the time to answer any questions. I don't have a high level but I have always felt welcomed. plus, the coffee bar is very nice addition. If you like a friendly place to boulder with a clean facility and experienced staff, I recommend Bolder.
Expérience fantastique: Fun route setting. I'm mostly climbing in the v3-v4 range with some v5 sprinkled in, so I can't speak to the more advanced routes but I think this place is great. Nice upstairs warmup area too with a couple stationary bikes and a rower.
Expérience fantastique: Made a special trip out of town to come see this gym, and I'm so glad we did! Lots of varied angles, slab and cave, and really great setting. Loved it! And everyone inside was so so friendly and cheering on each other. What a great climbing community!
Expérience fantastique: Great vibes, great climbs. Been going to bolder for 5 years and they have always been amazing. They have started to outgrow their space though, it can get really crowded after work hours (4-8PM).
Expérience positive: Ratings seemed pretty inconsistent but all problems fun nonetheless. And super friendly staff plus chill atmosphere. Cool that you can stay for a beer after you climb! I wish there were a gender neutral washroom.
Expérience fantastique: The staff there is amazing! I’m new here so haven’t experienced the community yet, but so far it’s been great!
Expérience positive: Had a good time, but it was very busy with people sitting on the edges of the mats around the whole gym, and I think their climbs rated wrong (they are easier than I expect by about 1-2 grades)
Expérience fantastique: Miss this place so much since I moved from Calgary. Always make a point to visit when I'm back and it never disappoints. The atmosphere is relaxed & supportive, super friendly staff & owners. "Community" truly belongs in the name. Route setting is next level - far more interesting problems than any other gym I've visited, and very approachable for progression.
Expérience fantastique: My favorite place to go climbing in Calgary. The setting is awesome and the holds are nice. The drop in fee is relatively cheaper than the other facilities in Calgary, and the community is great!
Expérience fantastique: One of my favourite climbing gyms in Calgary. Lots of variety in terms of difficulty and climbing styles. Moon board and small gym available. Fun atmosphere. My husband says the coffee there is really good too.
Expérience fantastique: Great bouldering gym…super friendly vibe from both staff and other climbers. Enough beginner problems to keep a newbie happy and enough challenging ones for more advanced climbers. Great coffee too!
Expérience fantastique: Great bouldering facility. They're well outfitted and have a lot of different routes to climb at all levels. The staff were super friendly and gave me come helpful tips to get started. Good vibes and a fun place to hang out with friends and challenge yourself.
Expérience fantastique: Honestly I'm pretty sure this is the best place to Boulder in Calgary. Great varied sets. Lots of different shaped walls. Busy of course but great job. Open another!
Expérience fantastique: Went when it was packed still a great time, good layout, interesting climbs. They had a whole slabby wall which I loved. Great prices compared to Van or Toronto.
Expérience fantastique: Great place to spend an evening with friends who love adventure. This place has great environment, great routes to try and may find friends around aswell. The place can get crowded sometimes but it's just people taking rest between attempts. Fun and super energetic place. Get staff and they have coffee also
Expérience fantastique: Awesome community and good diversity of runs. 20$ drop in, discounts with passes.
Expérience fantastique: This is my happy place! I love coming here and I like the amount of time they leave routes up before changing them - long enough to have time to work on trickier projects, but short enough to keep things fresh and exciting!
Expérience fantastique: The best boulder gym in Calgary! Amazing routes, cozy atmosphere and good attitude to customers!
Expérience fantastique: An awesome experience that I would recommend everyone to try! Community here is so kind and supportive. Facility is clean and organized. Shout out to Denise who welcomed us and gave us a great training session. Thanks so much for making it feel safe and fun!
Expérience positive: A great atmosphere, wonderful staff and a perfect range of difficulty. The only downside is the highly inappropriate music, I'd like to bring my kids climbing, but not here.
Expérience fantastique: Fun little gym, very friendly and helpful staff, some interesting route setting that gave me a different experience from my usual gyms. Worth checking out!
Expérience fantastique: Great climbing gym in the competitive Calgary climbing scene. Fun route setting with very diverse terrain (overhung, slab, mix). They have a decent spray wall, a 2019 setup Moonboard, a circuit wall, and campus board. The training space is good and has all the equipment you need to train. Above all , the climbing community is full of stoked happy people and the music is awesome. I couldnt help having a little boogie in between my sets.
Expérience fantastique: Love this place - keeps me coming back every other day. Great atmosphere, staff are friendly, place is clean as a climbing gym can get. The music can be a little loud on occasion, but that may suit the community that comes here, though, it's usually banger music. The routing setting is always exciting and fun to tackle. The higher level boulders can be challenging to solve which means the route setting is great. Oh, and they have AC.
Expérience fantastique: Best gym around - blows CCC out of the water. I love how approachable the staff is, I’ve made many friends here. It is a great community and the creative setting is awesome- not your boring boulders over and over. If it’s busy, come at a different time. If the music is off putting, wear headphones. I also enjoy how there are less children running around there is vs. CCC.
Expérience positive: Very dynamic gym, a lot of climbs start very high up the wall or begin with campusing. I would not say it’s a great gym for beginners, or those who want to develop more static skills. I was disappointed in the slab area and I felt that there was a lot of unused space on the walls. I still had a lot of fun, I will likely go back, but I would not expect to become a well rounded climber at this gym.
Expérience fantastique: Awesome climbing wall with routes for all levels, changed weekly. Also has a cute bar that sells coffees and beers. Great place to climb and work out or even just to study and chill.
Expérience fantastique: Bolder is great! We took the complimentary Bold Workshop on our first visit. Our instructor was very friendly and knowledgeable. He didn't try to sell us any extras. He just made us feel welcome. We've been back at least once a week since! This place is great!
Expérience fantastique: Love it here. The setting is some of the best for indoor bouldering in Calgary. The only other boulder wall that competes would be CCC Chinook. The music is always a vibe and the community is extremely nice.
Expérience fantastique: Best climbing gym I've been to. The routes are always fun and the setters are creative, even with the v2 and under problems which you dont always see. The gym is always clean, and there is rarely a shortage of problems. new routes are also set weekly so stuff doesnt get old very fast. Music taste kinda sucks tho sometimes, not gonna lie lol. No real complaints, and nothing but praise for this place
Expérience fantastique: Great bouldering gym with very helpful staff and overall a great community. Majority of people are more than willing to help and keep the gym positive. Extremely excited for the new location as well!
Expérience fantastique: First time visiting and I will definitely be back. Great atmosphere and loved all of the boulders I had enough skin to try
Expérience fantastique: Awesome place. There was a mix-up with payment and the people at the front helped me out big time. Regular resets, great training area, friendly staff. Highly recommend.
Expérience fantastique: Great atmosphere, solid, friendly knowledgable staff, good grilled cheese, good beer, very entertai ging routes for beginners and experts alike, route setters make sire that beginners arent bored. the only thing this place was missing was some air freshener for the shoe area but that's a negative I only noticed the first 30 seconds of my stay.
Expérience fantastique: Best bouldering gym. I've been to bouldering gyms in ON, QC, BC and AB and this one is the chillest, most reasonable, best music and community. If I ever move to Calgary this gym would be my home gym!
Expérience positive: This gym is great for bouldering one of the best in Calgary even. Membership’s are cheaper than competitors, friendly staff. **Come on the weekend it’s less busy** The Cons: However at this gym I find the route setting to be quite inconsistent. V1, V2, and V3 are the most inconsistent. The routes are quite hard (V3’s here I find equivalent to V4’s elsewhere etc) The Pros: The gym is cold which at first seems like a negative but once you start climbing it’s wonderful because you don’t overheat. Large variety in routes most feel unique Friendly environment
Expérience fantastique: Such a welcoming atmosphere to get started with climbing. Tons of route options and a safe space for any person to learn and improve. Staff is super friendly and the facilities are super well maintained. Always worth the drive from the NW to the SE just to climb.
Expérience positive: Great environment for meeting people who are into bouldering. The building isn't too big, so the crash mats are a bit smaller than what I'm used to. Some of the smaller holds are full of chalk, which makes it hard to differentiate between gray or white. Overall, I had a great time! There were a diverse range of climbers, so it was super easy to start a convo!
Expérience fantastique: First time bouldering, fun experience, friendly staff and environment. Will definitely add to my list of hobbies.
Expérience fantastique: This is my favourite place to be, the environment is chill and everyone there is always incredibly friendly if you're feeling nervous! I started out bouldering here and from day one felt like I belonged. Highly recommend :)
Expérience positive: 1st time going & We really enjoyed it & would love to go back for more learning
Expérience fantastique: Top class joint. World class setting, hold selection, coffee, beer, honestly could not ask for more. Owners and management team care about community development and welcoming new climbers to the sport. Lots of programs for all abilities.
Expérience positive: Tough one to post. Setting is 5 star. However the music is much too loud and there can be way too many people in the evening to walk around. There can be no social distancing. Can be a nice place to climb at times. Front desk are helpful and welcoming.
Expérience fantastique: Fairly equivalent to any of the other major bouldering centers in Calgary and generally quite busy. It is cold inside, but I personally prefer it.
