Calgary Climbing Centre Hanger: Avis
Expérience fantastique: The staff here are always friendly and motivating. They ask questions like what your favorite wall is and how your climb is going, they also ask for recommendations and the ask is genuine. Definitely the best rock climbing gym despite it being smaller then the rocky mountain location
Expérience fantastique: Great vibes, great staff, great music, and great overall experience! Looking forward to spending more time here over the winter!
Expérience positive: Visited the climbing centre for some bouldering during our layover at the Calgary Airport. Nice gym and nice atmosphere. While we were only there for bouldering, the rope climbing looks great with high walls. The bouldering routes were fun and creative, however there weren’t many beginner routes, felt like a big jump from C1 to C3. I am somewhat a beginner climber, and had a great time but this might not be the best spot for your first time bouldering (maybe explore the ropes area instead). The gym also has a kids area and looks like a great spot for a birthday party or to get rid of some energy while waiting at the airport! They also have a shop and snacks.
Expérience fantastique: There are many different routes, and they keep changing. Overall, the vibe and atmosphere are great. Highly recommended!
Expérience négative: I had a disappointing experience at the Calgary Climbing Centre Hanger. The staff consisted mostly of teenage employees who lacked professionalism and seemed more interested in chatting with each other than ensuring the safety and enjoyment of visitors. This was our first time at the facility, and we had booked the kids’ section. When we realized that other sections were available for a similar price, we requested to switch. Unfortunately, the staff refused our request without a reasonable explanation, making our visit feel restricted and unwelcoming. Overall, it was not the experience we were hoping for, and I left feeling dissatisfied with the level of service.
Expérience fantastique: my kids very love here
Expérience positive: Rahul helping me with drop in. Great service.
Expérience fantastique: Super friendly staff and fun climbs.
Expérience fantastique: I’ll preface this by saying I only do bouldering. Recently got in to climbing and bought a multi-gym membership. The memberships are well worth the price and Id highly recommend a multi-gym. Ive found where the other locations suffer a bit from their popularity, this location and stronghold don’t seem to get overwhelmingly busy which is nice. Plenty of space to make attempts on the boulder problems without getting in another’s way and a good variety of difficulty levels.
Expérience fantastique: Very fun and cheap, staff were very nice
Expérience fantastique: My son got invited here and for the first time, he experienced wall climbing! Clean facility, lots of different wall climbing structures, very helpful and friendly staffs! A special mention to Ella who not only keeps the kids safe but also helps to make kids feel comfortable and gain confidence in wall climbing. Kudos!
Expérience fantastique: Best CCC walls and routes in Calgary! With a name like Hanger?!
Expérience fantastique: Fantastic place!! We booked the Climbpark party session for our son’s 7th birthday and everyone loved it. Great space and we loved the flexibility where we could bring our own food / snacks in. They also serve high quality coffee at their snack bar area too which was a welcome treat for the adults!
Expérience fantastique: Went this past Tuesday and profoundly enjoyed how kind and supportive the staff were. The coffee was also fantastic, will be returning.
Expérience fantastique: Wow, what an amazing place! From the outside I wasn't sure what to expect but it opens into a cool gym with a huge bouldering area, training spots and best of all, a floor that drops down into a massive top rope/lead area with a giant arch in the middle. There were huge funky holds that made for some fun climbs. It was obvious that they have top notch route setters. There were fun challenging puzzles for every difficulty level. The thing that really made it for me, though, was the super nice staff. Everyone was friendly, especially Will, who was trying to figure out what styles of routes we might like and then giving us suggestions on what to climb. 10/10 I would definitely recommend going there!
Expérience fantastique: I absolutely LOVED climbing at CCC Hanger! Since it was near my work, I went there Tuesdays and Thursdays every week. Not only is their gym clean and spacious, but there are always new routes to climb as well! Plus the staff were super kind, always helping me with harness/belaying questions. Thanks CCC Hanger! I would definitely climb here again!!!
Expérience fantastique: it was very cool and fun, we think we will come again; it’s not expensive, only 20 dollars for 1 person) I advise you to go there, it’s great
Expérience fantastique: Cool place. Climbing is expensive but you need good equipment, which they have, good sturdy walls to climb on, which they do, and they have great hours so you can get an amazing workout while in the company of a large groups of friends. Great belay and bouldering walls to test your strength and technique, with really forgiving soft but sturdy flooring to accommodate your blunders. Good place to climb.
Expérience fantastique: This is a nice climbing gym. So far, I have been to Stronghold and the Chinook ccc locations. This, by far, is my favorite. It is very spacious and it has never felt too crowded to me. The big walls are awesome with a huge assortment of routes.
Expérience fantastique: Came here on an airport layover. They had secure lockers to store my belongings. A great workout with many routes to choose from. The kids climbing area had the most autobelays I’ve ever seen in one place. Staff were fantastic and made me feel welcome.
Expérience fantastique: This is my happy place. Great people and great climbing!
Expérience fantastique: Great inviting atmosphere. My 8-year old is hook... I'm a climbing dad now.
Expérience fantastique: The climbing experience here is fantastic. The price for 1 hour of climbing is super reasonable. The climbing is divided into three areas for different kinds of climbing. We did the fun climb area with the automatic belaying. All three of us left happy and tired. Staff were helpful and friendly. The only unfortunate thing was that three of the climbs were out of order for our visit.
Expérience fantastique: The instructors and staff were amazing! It was me and my brothers first time, and they were super supportive and informative. Anika went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. We will definitely be back!
Expérience fantastique: I've been taking my son Clay for over 2 years now. He loves climbing, and hasn't tired of it yet. I also want to give a HUGE shoutout to Sam one of the staff who runs the Nano's program. A HUGE reason why my son and I love this place is the friendly atmosphere. Sam is one of them. My son really likes her, she knows how to deal with kids and encourages to make it to the top! If your child like to climb come check out this place! They'll love it!
Expérience fantastique: Awesome for kids. By only allowing climbers in the kids section, hovering parents are forced to let their children explore their boundaries, fears and physical capability with the help of friendly staff. This felt safe and enjoyable. It was clean and I’d highly recommend it!
Expérience fantastique: We had such a fun time at the Climbing Park at the Hanger. We went for a small birthday party celebration. It was perfect for the newer climber and experienced to enjoy together.
Expérience fantastique: Granddaughter 7th birthday party. Lots of climbing fun and nice party after.
Expérience fantastique: Wow this place is so cool and in my opinion it has the best routes in the city. They are always putting up fun and exciting climbs here at all grades. There is so much variety and the climbs always get me thinking. Anyways here's some new photos.
Expérience fantastique: Great staff, nice place to chill and climb.
Expérience fantastique: Great place for kids to climb various structures. There are racing tracks, balance pillars, vertical slide and many other fun, climbing walls. My kids love coming here!
Expérience fantastique: We love the climb park! Such a great confidence booster for the littles!
Expérience fantastique: I was with my MIL & Niece; First time there. Felt alittle awkward at the initial counter not knowing what I was getting into, walked around giving myself my own tour of where things are, and what to do. When it came to the climbing the walls, seemed as though the staff were on a script when it came to the safety announcement- but all in all had a great time. Learned lots, just thought staff would be more attentive to people who never been nor climbed a wall before. Very cool place, as I got used to the atmosphere and my nerves got shook off! Will be back :) Thank you!
Expérience négative: I did not love my experience here. On the phone I was told my kids could climb unlimited time in the Climb Park but when I arrived it turned out to be for an hour. It cost $53 for an hour for both my kids (with shoe rental) but they were asked to take their gear off before their hour was up. Since they didn't start at the hour either in the end they climbed for about 40 minutes. It was not a flexible or friendly place. This did not feel like a good deal.
Hello Jane, We are sorry to hear that your experience at our gym was not up to your standards. Please reach out to [email protected], we would like to ensure you have a great experience next time you visit our gym. Thanks in advance.
Expérience fantastique: Amazing gym one of the best I have seen in the countries
Expérience positive: Good routes good facility, found 2 of the workers last night to be annoying and unable to do their job correctly. I could feel them lurking around as if we were doing something wrong. We have climbed outside for years and are lead certified from rocky ccc and climb occasionally at chinook ccc never feeling harassed . These workers insinuated I wasn't certified but my chalk bag was simply covering my tag as well as they didn't do the simple task of checking me out in the system and the girl also was annoying telling me to tie a stopper knot which is 100% redundant as it is impossible to run out of rope unless you started traversing the top of the climb which nobody would ever do. I think some employees are just losers trying to be important but ruin the atmosphere with ridiculous behaviour. Kids trying to be adults.
Expérience fantastique: My son's birthday party was a blast everyone had fun in a safe environment.
Expérience fantastique: My regular climbing gym! Awesome folks that work here and a really great facility! Now that Stronghold is opening back up I may not come to this location as much! But it’s really awesome regardless :)
Expérience fantastique: Awesome Bouldering facility! Staff were so helpful with memberships as well as going over types of shoes when I bought some.
Expérience fantastique: Calgary Climbing Centre on Aero Dr NE Review: A Climbing Haven for Kids and Celebrations! We've had the pleasure of experiencing both kids' drop-in climbing sessions and birthday celebrations at this fantastic facility, and it's truly awesome! The atmosphere is vibrant, and the kids absolutely love it. ♂️ Diverse Climbing Adventures: The kids' area is not only well-supervised but also boasts climbs of various difficulties, fostering a sense of accomplishment and confidence in young climbers. Perfect Party Setup: The separate birthday/party rooms add a touch of convenience and joy to celebrations. It's an ideal setting to make special occasions memorable. ️ Inclusive for All Climbers: Whether you're a novice or an expert climber, this place caters to all skill levels. The diverse range of climbing options ensures everyone finds their perfect challenge. **Thrills in the Climb Park:** The kids had a blast in the Climb Park! The one-hour session is packed with exciting activities, from climbing giant beanstalks to sliding down super-fast slides. It's a whirlwind of amusement that keeps them engaged. ⏳ Dynamic Hour of Fun: The session is wisely limited to one hour, ensuring a dynamic and energetic experience. It's the perfect duration to enjoy the variety of activities without feeling rushed. ♂️ Unleash the Imagination: Who wouldn't want to climb a giant beastalk?! Or slide up a slide just to let go and go down super fast? The variety of activities sparks creativity and adds an extra layer of fun to the climbing adventure. Now, we're eager to explore the other locations around town. It's a perfect spot to keep the kids entertained, especially when winter arrives and they're bursting with energy. Expérience fantastique: Friendly and helpful staff. Other climbers are super chill and non-judgemental if you’re a beginner.
Expérience fantastique: Fun to bring kids. You don't have to pay if don't climb, even if you belay!
Expérience négative: Nice facility! I went it to do my belay test and was told I needed a climbing partner to belay. It was never mentioned, not once during the entire 2h course that you would need to show up with a partner for the test. I can't believe someone from the staff would not just volunteer. Maybe next time mention ALL the factors you need in advance.
Hi Stephanie, Sorry to hear about your experience, details of the belay check are to be shared during the lesson, and we are taking steps to follow-up with our instructors to make sure this is happening. We do not allow staff to climb during belay checks as a risk management practice. I would be happy to connect with you and find a way to get your belay check completed so you can start climbing with us. Please reach out to me at [email protected] -Chris
Expérience fantastique: They have a flickering light in the bouldering area for the last 3-5 months that drive me absolutely nuts! Please for the love of god fix it! I will amend my 2 star rating when it's fixed. Other than that it is a great place to climb, great community, Kind staff. Hanger is still my favorite CCC. No other complaints. But please fix the light! Update: They have fixed the light finally! Back to 5 stars!
Expérience fantastique: Awesome location for bouldering and top rope climbing. Friendly and helpful staff!
Expérience fantastique: Been a few years since we were here... so much fun!
Expérience fantastique: Awesome facility good mix of lead, TR, and auto belay routes. Friendly staff, clean washrooms.
Expérience fantastique: Such a good gym, friendly crowd, best auto-belays in the city. Worth visiting just for the corner climb routes - they are unique and really well set!
Expérience positive: Really cool design for a rock climbing gym and plenty of auto belays for if you’re climbing alone. I switched to this place while stronghold is closed but be warned, they have LOTS of birthdays and other events happening here all the time time and the parking lot is tiny
Expérience fantastique: Such a fantastic, bright facility. Tons of variety, and a friendly and helpful team who genuinely seem to care about your experience and progress. My daughter did Nanos for a couple years and then progressed to JCC when she turned 9. The coaches are awesome. She always has a great time. This place is so welcoming and has many options for beginners right up to complex climbs for advanced climbers. Check it out!!
Expérience fantastique: The options for auto belay are limited but it is still an extremely fun place to climb. I definitely will return.
Expérience positive: Kids had lots of fun at the climb park.
Expérience fantastique: Great place to host a party. The kids had a great time.
Expérience fantastique: Great experience. My daughter did not want to leave this place. Perfect for the whole family!
Expérience fantastique: Love at first climb ♂️ the staff is absolutely marvellous so helpful and knowledgeable. I am a newbie climber and have been completely embraced, in just my first 3 days here have made friends and had Sam give me my first lesson and can now belay ❤️ thanks Sam I will always remember your amazing lesson. Luke was super knowledgeable and was super helpful when I asked about getting my first pair of climbing shoes shout out to luke!. Today I brought a friend and Sean is teaching him how to belay, he is super sweet and is talking his time with a class of 7 peeps while i sit and write this and watch the magic happen. Can I say I am so happy a friend showed me this place I feel like it’s a great big family, can’t wait to meet everyone and be more part of this community. I wish there was more than 5 ⭐️ to give
Expérience fantastique: Great experience for young and old. The learn to climb programs for kids is a huge hit with my daughter. When she is done a session, she looks worn out but is beaming from ear to ear.
Expérience fantastique: My kids come here to play at the climb park. The staff are absolutely amazing. They’re always giving the kids tips and tricks to go faster or make it to the top! They definitely help build their confidence, I can see this every time we come.
Expérience fantastique: best gym ever and the staff are all amazing. can’t wait for it to reopen.
Expérience fantastique: A wonderful community of people. Everyone is welcome and they are happy to ease your first time jitters. The courses they provide are worth the money and the instructions are impeccable. I'm very happy I chose to start here. Sean was a great teacher and very patient with us. I would highly recommend him.
Expérience fantastique: I prefer the climbing here rather than bouldering. Not sure why but I never get the same satisfaction bouldering here. But walls are lovely and the pack a decent amount in.
Expérience fantastique: This gym hosts a group that does climbing for neurodivergent kids on Sundays. The staff is superb. They always remember the kids and the person supervising on the floor often jumps in with encouragement and tips. The patrons are also super supportive and encouraging of the kids. It is a such a welcoming and inclusive space and seems to cater to everyone.
Expérience fantastique: I haven't tried it myself yet, but my son absolutely loves it. It's a great way to exercise without feeling like you're not getting anywhere (sometimes a basic gym is more difficult to get motivated for). They have a wide variety of difficulty levels, lessons, and plenty of options for all ages. I wish we had introduced him to this years ago. The staff is also friendly and welcoming. One word of caution is that the parking in front is very limited, they do have additional parking around back if you need it.
Expérience fantastique: Well organized. Lots of variety and fun. Helpful, friendly instructors. Affordable.
Expérience fantastique: Great for those who love climbing, newbies and professionals alike. A general fun activity for groups or individuals, kids and/or adults. There are facilities for each grade of climbers as well as staff to guide you through if you are a total newbie. The staffs are very helpful and nice.
Expérience fantastique: I have only been here once...but it was a great experience! Cant really find a fault from my one visit...Would go back to try again! What an upper arm workout though! Was definetly more challenging then I thought it would be...In a good way! I recommend giving it a try!
Expérience fantastique: My wife and I went to this gym while on honeymoon, as we were staying in Calgary for a few days before going to the mountains. The staff was incredibly nice. If I could give them 10 out of 5, I would
Expérience fantastique: It was awesome...super simple check in process. Felt safe but was able to have fun on my first climb. Awesome. My kids birthday party is now the talk of the 4th grade!
Expérience fantastique: A fun place to learn how to climb, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They helped me with all my questions.
Expérience négative: Too expensive and most of them are out of service at Climbpark
Expérience fantastique: My son goes to climbing club/camp on Tuesday evenings. The staff of friendly, knowledgeable and encouraging. My son felt safe and encouraged. The kids climbs had great variety and were fun! The facility is clean and brightly lit.
Expérience fantastique: Can't say enough good things about this place. THE best place to learn how to climb IMO. Staff is amazing
Expérience fantastique: This place is amazing! Very beginner friendly and was great for me and my girlfriend since it was our first time. Shoutout to Luke for making it very enjoyable for us!
Expérience fantastique: My husband and I are beginner climbers and we came out of curiosity a little over a month ago. We signed up for the family class with George. He was amazing with us and our kids and we learned so much. We are now certified belayers, have memberships, and come often. I can confidently say the biggest contributor to being able to come as beginners and practice (and fail often and ask a billion questions and be total and complete newbs) is because of how welcoming and encouraging the staff are. The climbing community in general just seems very chill and open to new comers. So glad we found this sport. Worth every penny.
Expérience positive: Super friendly staff that ensure everyone's safe before they get to climb.
Expérience fantastique: The staff is very friendly and the facility is clean. My kids had fun here.
Expérience fantastique: A great place for adults and kids. They seem to enjoy every time when we go there.
Expérience fantastique: Awesome place to learn, exercise and climb. Good for beginners and seasoned pros. The climb park is a fun area to catch the climbing bug (not an actual insect). Staff are friendly and helpful!
Expérience positive: Was fun did some bouldering had a great time. Would recommend
Expérience fantastique: My children started climbing and became healthier and stronger. They lost several kilograms of weight. They began to sit less at the TV. Now the children are in great shape. So this sport has done them good. I recommend it! I'm looking and they will soon be able to conquer "Everest"!
Expérience fantastique: Staff are super friendly! Vibes are awesome and people are great!
Expérience positive: The boys loved it here. Great place to go on a rainy day in Calgary. The staff took the time to show the boys around and how everything works
Expérience fantastique: Had a fabulous time for our grandson's birthday. The staff were helpful and patient and there are lots of different climbing challenges for the kids.
Expérience fantastique: Love it here. This place gave me a real love for climbing. An awesome perk about this location when it’s nice outside they open the bay doors for some added fresh air and sunlight!
Expérience fantastique: A really great place for beginning an experience with climbing. Our group of kids received great support from their team!
Expérience fantastique: Only used the climbing park with a group of youth, but the kids had an absolute blast. Will be coming back again!
Expérience fantastique: Nice place to have for climbing, we mis-booked appointment for a wrong location the other day, a girl fitted my son in, saved my day, application!
Expérience fantastique: Such a fun time for our sons birthday. Staff was so nice and helpful, lots of different walls to climb and just the right amount of time in the party room.
Expérience fantastique: The perfect place to encourage a budding rock climber. The staff understand children and safety, the passion for climbing is evident, most of all, it's a good solid of people who champion the sport and the culture.
Expérience fantastique: One of my favourite climbing spots. Lots of new routes for bouldering and wall climbing.
Expérience positive: Primarily rope climbing, so the bouldering section is kinda small. They use the C rating instead of the more common V. They also use some uncommon holds, and the setting style is more traditional (not comp style).
Expérience fantastique: Amazing if you do not have a harness or rock climbing shoes you can rent them there if you have kids above the age of four to six it's an amazing place to bring them there is a climbing fun gym kind of like inja nation and it is so fun you don't even need to rent a harness or shoes if you have regular shoes that are not dirty you can just climb on the bouldering section and you do not need a harness
Expérience fantastique: This place can accommodate any climber from beginner to expert. The kids tried the Climb Park and they really enjoyed it. The session is limited to one hour. There are variety of activities that the kids can do. Highly recommended
Expérience positive: Please note that this review is only/specifically in regard to my experience with C.C.C. Hanger's "Outdoor Lead Lesson"! C.C.C. Hanger's "Outdoor Lead Lesson" is a 2-day program - the first being with C.C.C. Hanger indoors, and the second being outdoors with a separate company that they've partnered with. Donald is the C.C.C. Hanger staff member who took us (the program attendees) through the indoor portion ("Day 1"). Knowledgeable, engaging, patient, and supportive, he made for a brilliant instructor! Nothing he went over felt brief or rushed, but rather, hugely in-depth and appropriately organized in terms of how much time was dedicated to the various learning points. However, I have 2 reasons for not being able to score the program a full 5 points, and they are... 1) As the program had not been fully booked, the attendees were of an uneven number. Rock climbing, unless you're Alex Honnold and all about that free solo life, is not a 1-person activity. This therefore meant that the person who made the group uneven had to be partnered with one of the groups of 2, which of course, ended up being the group made up of my partner and I. My problem with having the "extra" person in my group isn't the fact that they're there, but the fact that they don't get swapped around between the other groups of two. This meant that my partner and I just simply weren't able to get the same amount of climbing time as other groups in the program, because we had 1 extra person that we had to work with. Now considering that all of us had paid the same price to be there, I personally think that this is an unfortunate consequence that could've been avoided! It could've been prevented by making sure that the extra person took turns to partner with all of the 2-person groups there at some point, rather than just sticking to one the entire time. This is, in my opinion, 100% the responsibility of the instructor, as it's simply too awkward for the extra person to go to every single group to ask if they can join, and it's even more awkward for the group being asked to say: "We'd be happy for you to join us for this specific exercise, but we think that it'd be more fair to us if you also made the effort to join the other groups in this program too.". As a result of the instructor failing to do this, my partner and I had less climbing time on Day 1 than everyone else despite paying the exact same price to take the program (as previously mentioned), and we got stuck with the extra person again on Day 2 - making us have less climbing time than everyone else in the program for both days! 2) I think that it's a complete safety hazard to have Day 1 (Friday) of the program end at 10 P.M., and then Day 2 (Saturday) of the program start at 8 A.M. in Canmore the next day! Because Day 2 of the program is outdoors in Canmore, attendees actually have to wake up at around 5:45 A.M. in order to make the start time. By the time 2 P.M. came on Day 2, which is when some of the most critical information was being presented to attendees and we could actually start practicing "for real", I was having serious trouble staying awake, remembering, and recalling what was being said out of mental exhaustion! Whilst I'm grateful for all of the information that was shared during this program and do believe that the content should remain the same, I think that Day 1 and 2 are far too closely-scheduled together. I suggest with the best intentions that C.C.C. Hanger re-evaluate this aspect of their program, because it's only a matter of time before someone gets hurt as a result of it! It's my opinion that doing Day 1 at least 1 week prior to Day 2 would be beneficial for the attendees - both in terms of increasing their ability to remember and practice the concepts learned from Day 1 before embarking on Day 2, and so that attendees have the time to get their "Scheduled Lead Check" indoors before lead climbing and belaying outdoors on Day 2. As fantastic as Donald and the content were, I'm shocked and disappointed by the downsides that I've had to point out in this review!
Expérience fantastique: No complaints at the CCC! It's nice to come to this location once in a whe as they're graded a bit harder than the other gyms.
Expérience fantastique: It was my first time climbing. Staffs are all friendly. I really appreciate!! I definitely go there again. Highly recommend!! Also, the staff helped me very well because I was a beginner. I am grateful to her.
Expérience fantastique: Kate is the best! It was my first time climbing. Staffs are all friendly. I definitely go there again. Highly recommend this location !!!!!
Expérience fantastique: Climb park is a great thing to do for some family fun. Cole was a super patient instructor and really made it fun for all of our different skill/comfort levels!
Expérience fantastique: Great new workout area Great place for challenging bouldering routes
Expérience positive: Climbing was great! $70 Indigo parking ticket in front of a closed business at 18:50 was awful.
Expérience fantastique: I'm no climber so I don't have a lot of comparison. However, my son took their beginners classes and had an absolute blast! I would love to book a birthday party there!
