Altitude Gym: Avis
Expérience positive: I just took my 6 year old to a birthday party here and he had alot of fun. It is a large venue with a canteen eating area, and two party rooms. There is plenty of parking. The entrance is very spacious with lockers and a coat and boot area. I am not a climber. However, there seemed to be a large variety of levels of difficulty.
Expérience fantastique: Great routes, clean and friendly staff! Highly recommended for climbers visiting Ottawa.
Expérience fantastique: Friendly staff, enormous floor space so it doesn't feel cramped even with tons of people, and very diverse routes and walls. A bit out of the way, but definitely benefits from the location. Highly recommended for climbers of all levels. Lead rope, speed climbing, bouldering,l, slabs, large section for children, tons of warmup and training equipment, and fully featured change rooms with showers.
Expérience fantastique: Nice set up. Did the belay course . Staff are great
Expérience fantastique: Like that there's 3 gyms, nice to get to try out new problems elsewhere when you get tired of a gym
Expérience fantastique: The best climbing gym in ottawa. Great people! Great sets! 100%
Expérience fantastique: Best climbing gym in town. Clean and well maintained.
Expérience fantastique: Nice spot but better for kids over 4 years old
Expérience fantastique: Great experience, my fingers and forearms are still feeling it. Overall lots to do and a great climbing gym.
Expérience fantastique: Our boys had a blast climbing the walls and are already planning our next trip there!
Expérience positive: Friendly Staff with a decent amount of climbing walls. -1 for the lack of creativity in the space, atmosphere and the uncertainty in climbing levels
Expérience positive: Sick sends are available, and the atmosphere is bomber. Grading system inconsistent and unintuitive.
Expérience fantastique: This was my first visit and I love it. The staff was friendly, took time to explain every activity available at gym. Well maintained and best place to spend time with friends. Highly recommended
Expérience fantastique: Always a good time. Great staff and members are always super nice and easy to chat with. Maybe put an air freshener at the entrance?
Expérience fantastique: Best gym in Ottawa. Love the closing staff the most. British guy is the best. Kitchen cook is also fantastic.
Expérience positive: Visit: June 2024 Large facility with a lot of variation on walls. The training section was also pretty large. Lots of areas for kids to climb and do ninja warrior things Staff wasn't too helpful I found when I went (didn't prompt my friends for shoe rentals, also didnt go over safety and falls with them (it was their first time climbing). Grading ranges also felt a little ambiguous.
Expérience négative: Worst experience and a pathetic customer service overall, paid $100 for less than 10 minutes of using their facility, no refund. Not a toddler friendly place at all.
Expérience négative: This was not a good experience for us. We asked the staff specifically by call and in person BEFORE PAYING if children under the age of 4 were allowed and they said yes they are allowed. The supervisor there, AFTER WE PAID asked us to keep our children in control and not have them run. Two of the kids were just 2 year old kid and seeing open space wanted to run. The supervisor was constantly telling us that he would have to ask us to leave. I would kindly request that the staff change the age limit of this place to be atleast over 4 years of age because this place was not welcoming at all to young children or their parents and felt like a scam to have come, paid in full, and be constantly told to control our kids. We had to leave within 5-10 mins and were denied a refund too. The staff and space was overall were nice except for the supervisor who I think should have warned us that this place may not be suitable for younger kids.
Expérience positive: The staff were great at help us set up for a day of family fun. Very knowledgeable and friendly. They have a small variety of food and snacks to keep you going throughout the day. Party rooms, ninja warrior style small obstacle course. Alot of fun and definitely worth checking out.
Expérience négative: I recently visited Altitude Gym in Kanata with my child and was impressed by the vibrant and diverse community of patrons. The representation of various ethnicities and cultural backgrounds among the customers is commendable and reflective of the rich diversity that Canada prides itself on. However, I noticed a lack of similar diversity among the staff. All the employees present were of a singular racial background. This disparity between the diversity of the clientele and the employees raises questions about the inclusivity and equal opportunity practices within the organization. Altitude Gym has a unique opportunity to lead by example in promoting diversity and inclusion within its workforce. By actively recruiting from a broader talent pool that includes individuals from various racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, the gym can create a more inclusive environment that better reflects the community it serves. This not only aligns with ethical and legal standards but also enhances the overall customer experience and satisfaction. I look forward to seeing positive changes in the hiring practices in the near future.
Expérience positive: Great spot for bouldering. Friendly staff. Changing Rooms and showers available. Gave it 4 stars because I find it's always so busy. I get uncomfortable when it's busy, because climbers will sit and watch. As a newbie, I find it a little intimidating.
Expérience fantastique: Nice variety of activities for groups and families. Love the fact that there is alot of staff over seeing to help keep patrons safe.
Expérience fantastique: Regular member. Great gym, great people and amazing sport for all ages. Facility is great! Highly recommend.
Expérience fantastique: Great experience for first time, especially if you want to do repelling with harnesses. All equipment is included in the price great to do with your loved ones although maybe one should hit the gym before doing that type of excursion / exercise, get lumber up a little bit. lol
Expérience fantastique: Brought my 6 year old kid recently for the first time and now she keeps asking to return. The gym was well designed keeping the more experienced climbers separate from the newbies and the staff were very friendly too.
Expérience négative: The staff here are horrible, both of the guys at the front desk are super unhelpful and look like they don't even want to speak to anyone. I was very polite when asking questions but they only replied with one word answers. Very disappointed.
Hi Sherry, we are very sorry about this situation. Could you send us an email at : [email protected] so we can contact you and we can inform the manager on site. Thank you.
Expérience fantastique: **update, the place was spotless within 48 hours. Such a pleasure!** Great gym, I absolutely love it but damn, ever since I signed up in January I haven’t seen the washroom cleaned. Looks nasty, could you please get a cleaner and allow me to rate you a solid five stars that you deserve?
Hi Danylo, thank you for letting us know about this situation. We will rectify the situation immediately! Have a great day!
Expérience fantastique: Good gym and even better staff. Mark was a big help to me twice during today’s visit, he really went above and beyond.
Expérience négative: The worst climbing experience I’ve ever had!!!! - staff was unhelpful and ack like they have better things to do than help you. - when to the climbing event last night, and it just felt like their was not enough walls for the amount of people that were there.
Expérience positive: The class instructors are great, but the place has become a glorified daycare. Too many small children running around, especially around the workout equipment. The place is quite crowded.
Expérience fantastique: great experience and great service . Good expertise, very friendly and helpful . Facility was also pretty clean and well laid out .
Expérience fantastique: Love it here! Even if you are a beginner you will have fun trying to climb, also they had a projector game and our gang had a blast playing with it! I will go there again in the future!
Expérience fantastique: Very friendly staff here. Great experience for the young ones. Huge area. Will return
Expérience fantastique: Had lots of fun on a Sunday afternoon. Kids loved the easy routes, the video wall and the ninja course.
Expérience fantastique: Great experience nice location and the staff goes above above and beyond. Would highly recommend this place for just hanging out, having fun or for a birthday party.
Expérience fantastique: Great place. The kids had lots of fun and enjoyed every moment of it.
Expérience fantastique: Super awesome, smells nice, well lit, friendly staff, always interesting challenges. I cant go anywhere else without being disappointed because this place is so goated
Expérience fantastique: Fantastic place!! Took the kids over the holidays, and we had a blast. Lots of space for them to try out climbing in a safe environment. Staff is amazing, friendly, and very helpful. The picture is from Christmas Eve. Look at all the enthusiastic people getting in a climb before Santa comes!
Expérience positive: Good gym, little too much comp style climbing but at least it's big. Kind of nice to have the kids and adults area seperate now.
Expérience positive: This place is very spacious with a large training area and a spray wall, lots of boulder problems. They even have a Cafe. However, I have been to over a dozen bouldering gyms in Ontario, and Altitude has by far the worst grading system I have seen. There are only 5 grades, but they have such a HUGE range and overlap that I felt I was wasting a lot of time either climbing routes that were way too easy or too difficult, and not climbing appropriately at my own level. It took too long to find those climbs because the range covered so much. They had a comp wall and slab wall that was color coded differently as well but not clearly indicated so it was also confusing at first figuring out both and which side was the normal grading. I was here a year ago and I think they had a much better grading system back then.
Expérience fantastique: Took a beginner course here with Sina (I'm so sorry if I misspelled your name.) It was an absolute blast! I learned so much and definitely have been bitten by the climbing bug. I can't wait to go back and put everything I was taught to practice! Thanks for such a wonderful experience in an outstanding gym!
Expérience fantastique: First time great great experience ....fun climbing walls ....going to become a full member ...nice ti see youngsters ...bouldering without phones
Expérience fantastique: This is a very large climbing gym with bouldering walls, a ninja course, auto-belay wall and more. I've taken youth groups to this gym several times and the kids always love it. The staff are helpful and the vibe is relaxed and supportive.
Expérience fantastique: I was only there to pick up my grand daughter , from what I saw rock climbing walls..party rooms...very clean...adults and kids...very cool
Expérience fantastique: Big gym with a bunch of great walls. The staff do a great job setting up routes so you'll find something fun for everyone. The auto belay is really fun too, although I wish they had some more of it. If you really like longer routes and top-rope, I'd recommend going to Gatineau. The staff at Palladium are super nice and are all really chill. There's tons of space to spread out and relax too, and a cafe too!
Expérience fantastique: Great gym! Lots of fun! Love it. I started going there a few months ago and i have absolutely nothing to complain about! The facility is pretty big. Mostly bouldering. There are some auto belay climbs of various difficulty. A climbing-oriented fitness station. A change room. Party rooms. Augmented Reality (AR) wall - mostly for kids. A moonboard 40°, a kilter board and a tension both adjustable! What else? I believe you just have to give it a try. Kanata location is my favorite one personally. 100% would recommend.
Expérience fantastique: Kids loved the climbing experience all the way. A great birthday party experience. Staff was very friendly and helpful. {Thank you, Marco.}
Expérience fantastique: Had a kids birthday here recently for my daughter's 8th birthday. Very well run by the staff, the facilities were great and the kids had an awesome time with the variety of activities they guide the group through. Definitely a great option if you're looking for a fun party idea!
Expérience fantastique: Great fun and activity for my grandchildren. They loved the challenges. Well mannered and helpful staff that offered encouragement.
Expérience positive: Problems are more about strength and endurance. I would like to see more technical problems that require some deep problem solving. More crimpy slab problems would also be fun.
Expérience fantastique: Best bouldering gym I’ve been to. Have been going for years and it’s always a good time. Top-roping is limited to a few auto-belays in the back corner, but there are so many bouldering routes you’ll be kept very busy if that’s your thing!
Expérience fantastique: Always love my weekly climb here! Employees are great, walls change often to provide new climbs. Super chill environment.
Expérience positive: Amazing gym! Not a huge fan of the latest changes to grading, but still always a fun time there.
Expérience fantastique: This place is fantastic. The atmosphere was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The climbing walls were both challenging and fun. They have walls for all levels of climbers. I had a great time and would highly recommend.
Expérience fantastique: First time bouldering here. It was about $55 for the two of us including shoe rentals. They had changerooms with lockers and they lent us a lock and key to store our stuff. The water fountain/bottle refill and bandaids came in clutch. The bouldering area was huge and had lots of entry level routes to try out (even for kids).
Expérience fantastique: Honestly a pretty incredible experience, because where else can you go rock climbing for 25$? They have a great selection of paths and change up a section of the wall weekly to keep things fresh and exciting for returning members!
Expérience fantastique: Had a blast climbing here with my husband. Staff was super friendly and helpful, and the routes varied in difficulty. They have a cafe run by the sweetest human and his food is delicious! Would come back just to eat here again!
Expérience fantastique: Came for the competition, seems like a nice climbing gym! Good weight section and ninja course.
Expérience fantastique: Came here 3 times now and each time has been super fun. Totally recommend for a fun activity. Lots of fun courses with different difficulties. It is a bit expensive to drop in regularly if you don’t have your own shoes however.
Expérience fantastique: We have had two of our kids birthdays here and it's been great! Rock climbing for all levels, friendly service from staff and party hosts.
Expérience fantastique: Large climbing facility with a wide range of walls and route difficulties. Bouldering, rope climbing, ninja obstacle course and fitness, there is something for every age. There's also a place to buy food and refreshments.
Expérience fantastique: Such a fun place to climb, the staff are awesome and ready to make your time at the gym a good one!
Expérience positive: Nice place for friends and family, but the overall experience is not worth the price. For the regulars, a subscription would make it. The climbing walls are not all provided with retracting ropes. The location requires clients to sign mandatory waivers as a disclaimer to hold them harness in case of any accident. Pretty unfair toward the clients. I suggest installing more retracting security ropes to improve security for clients that may fall or harm themselves. Expérience fantastique: Best experience ever first time Rock Climbing everyone is so nice and friendly they actually put in the time to teach you how to do it properly instead of just giving you the shoes and doing it yourself I really like how there's different levels so that you're not doing the same one over and over again. You can watch as well, and it's the best place to bring your family 100% worth it
Expérience fantastique: Super nice employees, the place is way better than i imagined. Excellent care for hygiene. The place is huge and the climbing walls are so varied and challenging. So much room and space. Climbing is an amazing sport and this is the place where you should go for that
Expérience fantastique: Great problems, friendly staff, and a great climbing community. They offer birthday parties, and climbing lessons for all levels of experience.
Expérience fantastique: Fantastic climbing gym. Altitude is the place to go if you're into bouldering. Great ever changing routes, nice atmosphere and challenges for all age levels.
Expérience fantastique: Great gym, and friendly staff. Bouldering is definitely the highlight here. There is lots of different grades and styles of climbing to choose from. The addition of the small cafe is pretty cool but it is pricey. It also has a ninja warrior course which I think are pretty rare. Highly recommend
Expérience fantastique: I had been attending prior to the shut-downs and have now returned. Everything is like it was, and the quality has not gone down. Especially attending during quieter times, it is always an enjoyable experience and a new hobby that supports fitness and wellness. Most staff are very friendly and engaging and help make the entry process smooth and efficient.
Expérience fantastique: Great experience, welcoming and energetic atmosphere. Charlotte was so helpful and patient. Thank you, I will be back!
Expérience négative: First time at this gym. Waited 50 min on a waitlist to get rental shoes. We went to check how the list was going and they had crossed off our names without calling us, and there were people on the list after us with my same shoe size, that had been provided with shoes. There was no offer to let us have the next set of shoes or give us an entry discount after the long wait. Very frustrating after driving from the east end to try this gym.
Expérience négative: Came here a year ago and the settings were super fun. However, this time the settings were not intriguing or exciting. It was pretty repetitive and all too similar to each other. I hope their setters get better by the next time I come back.
Expérience fantastique: Awesome space for a unique and challenging workout. So many fun, interesting and thought-provoking routes for any ability level in the bouldering section. Friendly and courteous staff are very helpful getting the gear you need. Very clean, well lit facility throughout. There are limited belay walls and better suited to a younger athlete. The ninja warripr course has some very challenging obstacle.
Expérience fantastique: Really enjoy climbing here for multiple reasons. They have two sections; one for everyone and the second side for 13+. The gym is large and doesn’t feel to crowded on busy days. There is a wide range of difficulty levels for beginners to people with experience. They change up the problems often which is nice if you are climbing here on the regular. A lot of fun activities for kids to enjoy. The staff here is always friendly and helpful. The gym section is well equipped with weights and some machines. It can become a bit expensive if you’re renting gear. I would recommend getting the pass if you climb frequently.
Expérience fantastique: Went in guest pass. Excellent experience
Expérience fantastique: Great space. With awesome rock climbing classes for children and adults. Love the augmented wall feature.
Expérience positive: I’d give it 5 stars if they could create a family pass. The price is pretty steep for a family to come and climb. We have all our own gear and it was still almost $100 to climb for a family of 4. It’s something we would love to do more often but it would be really nice if they could create a family pass. Love all the kid friendly features. We were able to spend hours here. But you can tire quickly so if you don’t spend enough time then it’s expensive. Pack your own lunch to take a break so you can get the most out of your time there. Gym is very nice, bathrooms are clean. Challenging routes for all levels of climbers and a few easy one for beginners and children. Not busy at all. We would love to go more often but the price is holding us back.
Expérience négative: More child-focused. No high walls to climb with belays, only some auto belays that are packed close together. If you like bouldering then it is good; otherwise, it’s not great for adults looking for variety in climbing experiences. Additionally, they have begun to format one side of the adult wall to be geared toward competition bouldering. The wall is sparse with only a few bouldering routes causing most people to crowd around the one wall with variety.
Expérience fantastique: staff is super helpful and really kind! routes are fun and creative! lots of good end holds and great gym overall
Expérience positive: LOVE THE BABY ROUTE!!! polite employees, one specifically told us he had really great co-workers! He wanted to know if i could change oil in a truck!! so friendly and conversational <3.
Expérience fantastique: Very nice and clean bouldering gym. It has several auto belays for the taller walls, a ninja warrior course, augmented reality wall and a reasonable weight gym. It was a great variety of easy to hard routes.
Expérience positive: Expensive, but very clean and well maintained. I wish there were less dyno problems but overall the wall gets updated with new problems at a good frequency so there's always something to work on. Nice gym at the back as well to make use of with rowers and hang boards and good weight sets and squat racks. Can train all kinds of calisthenics and regular weights if you're not up to climbing the whole time.
Expérience fantastique: Great place to bring your kids that isn't a zoo, or good for people that want to climb solo (or climb with their kids) due to their auto-belay systems which allow a solo adult to climb alongside their kids without the need for a adult to belay them. Also the augmented reality climbing wall which projects interactive climbing video games and ninja warrior courses allow larger groups to enjoy a more diverse number activities than pure climbing and bouldering offered at more traditional climbing gyms (ie. Coyote Rock)
Expérience fantastique: Great place for rock climbing. Kids love it here, my son went for a summer camp and he loved it.
Expérience positive: I would call it a bouldering gym vs a climbing gym. There are very few auto belay runs and no top rope nor lead at all. The ninja obstacle course is ok, the platforms that you need to step on aren’t really fixed to the floor so if you’re not a kid it gets moved around and tumbles. However, if you love bouldering, there are many many runs of various skills and heights.
Expérience négative: Was forced to rent shoes for a 5 yrs old kid. Also parents/Gardians have to pay an entrance fee when there is like 5 cars in the parking lot. Kids enjoyed themselves but for a high price.
Expérience positive: Ample array of bouldering levels and a variety of other climbing activities in the gym. However I felt that the climbing wall which required the use of a harness was a bit small compared to the bouldering sections. Overall a positive experience.
Expérience fantastique: Altitude gym is fantastic. I took my kids here for the day, spent 3+ hours there and they were still climbing my furniture when we got home. They have boulder climbing that was suited for my 4 and 6 year old. They had these auto belays so my kids could climb with a harness, they absolutely loved it (even my 2 year old). There is also this enclosed room where a projector is displayed on a climbing wall so my kids could play a game and climb, such a cool option! We'll definitely be coming back.
Expérience fantastique: Very recommended indoor activity place! It is a big and clean place with many climbing walls. The place is divided into two parts, for adults and for children. You can also celebrate birthdays here. P/S: My kids spent there about five or six hours and and they didn't want to leave.
Expérience fantastique: We love going here, lots of fun for the kids and adults as well. Come visit, you will have a good time for sure! All the staff are friendly and knowledgeable of their craft.
Expérience fantastique: This place is amazing! So many different bouldering walls and about a dozen auto belaying climbs, not to mention the ninja course. Great for all ages, spacious and very clean, great building actually. Was a bit difficult to spot from the road, it's in the Lockheed Martin building, so pull in there. They do birthday parties and camps, it was the brightest, cleanest, most professionally run climbing gym I've ever been to, not to knock grass roots gyms, but this place is slick. Oh yeah, there's a CrossFit-style training area in the back as well.
Expérience fantastique: Been here a couple of times and have been blown away by the quality of the facilities and the good natured regulars. Just getting into climbing but there's a ton of options for bouldering routes and excited to take a class here starting in mid-April.
Expérience fantastique: This place was really awesome. Kids had never done any sort of climbing and loved it, worth the money. For 2 kids 10 and 11 it was about $60 for the climbing plus harness. Climbing time is unlimited.
Expérience fantastique: Great spot for climbing. Facilities are really clean and has tons of interesting problems to try out.
Expérience négative: When my son was visiting last week, he took off his glasses and put them in his jacket pocket. When he went to retrieve them several hours later, they and a few other items were missing. There has been no offer of help or assistance in resolving this issue, reviewing CCTV footage etc. Phone calls have not actually connected me to anyone and a message left was not returned.
Expérience fantastique: Great climbing community. Problems are changed weekly. There is a variety of problems for all levels. There is a kid section and a training area. Staff is very kind. It is open all year round. You can rent shoes and buy chalk onsite.
Expérience fantastique: Every trip has been a blast. Very welcoming environment, even though we're beginners we feel welcomed and encouraged by the staff and also the other patrons. Great environment for kids. Tons of fun, they update the walls often to provide new challenges for all levels. Awesome spot!
Expérience positive: Great spot for top roping and lead climbing. Route setting on boulders is pretty good too but the ropes are the main reason you’d visit. (Gatineau)
Expérience négative: *EDIT*: After writing this review, I was directed to the owner’s social media accounts where one has publicly posted anti-vax stances, COVID mis/disinformation and most recently, has posted support for the trucker convoy (which both owners attended). Also, check out the Indeed reviews for the treatment of staff by management. It all makes sense now. Original review: I was a member at this gym before and during the pandemic. Compared to other gyms, I’ve been unimpressed with the owner(s)/upper management’s behaviour during the pandemic. In several cases, this company lagged behind and dug their heels in when others began to introduce measures. When health measures were introduced, they were overly lax and help (e.g. freezes/refunds) to their most loyal clientele affected by the pandemic came late and were not as compassionate as other gyms. Also, the introduction of these measures was largely driven by complaints from clientele rather than leadership from management. This location also had to be forced to close on one occasion in 2020 after they defied a shutdown order and arrogantly claimed that they were “exempt” on social media, which is embarrassing. I feel that the pandemic has shown the true colours of the owner(s)/upper management. Last, the setting at this location has been one-note for a long time, catering more to a gymnastic style rather than climbing training (which is what I think a climbing gym should focus on). For these reasons, I will not be renewing my membership with Altitude nor giving them my business.
Expérience fantastique: Out of the two locations this is my favorite one by far, amazing service, huge selection of problems and grades. The place is huge and has everything you need to be the best climber you can be. Staff is friendly and helpful, you can also bring your kinds, they'll have as much or more fun as you do.
