Expérience fantastique: After looking at a few gym/fitness options near me, I decided to sign up for the YMCA here. I wanted to shout out Michael, who was working at the front desk and helped to sign me up; he gave me and my partner a great private tour of the facilities, answered my questions, and was very friendly and considerate. Thank you for making our experience really lovely!

Expérience négative: Started a month ago . Not enough biking cardio machines and only 1 studio room . Staff are okay and generally friendly . I usually go in the mornings . Discontinuing my membership however due to the one studio and prices are overpriced imho. Unable to do my core strengthening exercises . Also rude instructor kicked me out of the studio room for a yoga class .

Expérience négative: Two stars ⭐️ is too much ..why ? 1- Plus : hot tub is nothing but a warm water or bath tub most of the time. 2- Plus : Steamer room used to be out of service or something wrong with it sometimes. — Customer service: In general they are as human as we are all. They are imperfect. Some are wonderful team members: employees while others are either rude or disrespectful mean. For those I say ZERO ⭐️. For others, we do appreciate them. — Pool : they do NOT have clear hours for learning or classes. 75%\100% —- 2nd floor Equipments are usually ok but there are some have been broken for months , yes months not days . It is ridiculously easy to fix them though!! ——- There reason I go to this location is due to its location. It is expensive compared to other places. We do hope this location would be 24/7 .

Expérience fantastique: Kaitlin at front desk (hope I spelled it correctly) is an absolute rockstar. She was very helpful, patient, and got me started today after a few days of trial. Pumped.

Expérience positive: I'm here 4 times a week minimum. Staff are excellent. Truly wonderful people. Parking can be an issue. Removing cable TV from the adult change room is cheap and chinsey and should be reconsidered.

Alyssa Lynne 1 year ago

Expérience positive: The gym is good, and unfortunately will be the only thing I will use here until I cancel my membership (hopefully soon) But here is where the issue is. I wanted to also get involved in some of the recreational sports because I enjoy those aswell and wanted to make most of my membership. I tried the volleyball, which I was super excited about, but it was incredibly hard to get in as it’s the same 24 people that enroll every time. I applied exactly 24 hours before and got waitlisted within the minute. I was allowed in, but when I actually went the whole vibe was just very unwelcoming which was super upsetting. I have been doing volleyball leagues and rec for years now and have never felt so uncomfortable and not welcomed like that before. I understand these people likely play with eachother all the time, but since this is only a first come first serve “play for fun” league, I didn’t expect such an unwelcoming, clique-y vibe and rude comments. Definitely will not be going back and would not recommend. There should be a better effort made to make everyone feel welcomed since we are all paying the same and it’s not a serious league… it’s just for fun.

Expérience fantastique: Love this YMCA on Cherry Street in Erie. Have been going to gyms all my life in 2 states and this is my favorite. People are great and I have formed some wonderful friendships. The facilities are great. Lots of different offerings for workouts, meditation, yoga, exercise classes and even. Getting equipment fixed seems to take a long time, it seems..

Expérience fantastique: This is a great facility. I challenge anyone to find a gym this large with a) this many cardio machines; b) this much opportunity for strength training; c) with steam room, hot tub, and towel service; d) with nice perks like a pool and an indoor track; e) a reasonable no-contract fee model that you can put on hold; f)... for this price. I have found a few of those traits, but not all of them in any one other place. Add the natural light, the basketball court, etc., and you've got a great spot. There are things to quibble with, of course. I agree with some of the other posters that it's hard to get someone on the phone sometimes, and yes there are lots of inconsiderate other members who do circuit training and hog machines. But the management can't really fix those issues, and many other gyms have similar problems.

Expérience négative: Not worth the price

Harvey Minuk 1 year ago

Expérience positive: At certain times the instructors have speakers on during their classes where a speaker and microphone is unnecessary. Not a lot of the latest weight lifting machines are onsite. Already the showers are rundown and in need of repair. Front line staff are great. Management is indifferent at best. People using the gym are fabulous though

Expérience fantastique: I really like the gym and pool! They have a lot of weight machines and racks.

Expérience fantastique: Best YMCA I've ever been to. Very friendly staff, great amenities. Only thing is the water fountain bottle refill sensors don't work most of the time lol

Expérience négative: I have been visiting this location for about a year. The facilities is just like any other. However the inability to get a rep on the phone or reply to an email is a very negative experience. I have tried over a week at different times of the day to call in to make some account changes. If you’re reading this are you able to call back ?

Expérience négative: I have been going here for a year. Everything was great before I spoke to the general manager here. He was giving me so much attitude when I was doing a FaceTime call with my friend (well, I mean, this happens when you have all the power in your hand). I tried complaining to the staff, but no one wanted to discuss about him or the problem. With the premium membership price, I expect this place should have better management, but well it’s not. So, if you have no choice, then go to the YMCA, but if you want lower prices and the same level of management, then go to other commercial gyms.

Expérience fantastique: We came here because my daughter’s friend was hosting a birthday party. We didn’t know this place existed nor did we realize we could rent out the space for events. It’s great. There is a play area so the kids were climbing and sliding all over the place. My daughter liked it so much she requested to host her party here. The only downside I can see is that there is approximately a two hour limit for events. It’s tough to drag kids out of here. But I suppose that makes sense to allow other kids and events to happen. Didn’t visit much else of the facility. Maybe another time.

Expérience négative: Everyone deserves an equal opportunity to compete and a fair chance to win...or so the YMCA claims; this is not the case at the Cooper-Koo YMCA. I understand that in competitive organized youth sports there's a wide range of opinion held by parents and coaches regarding playing time, I'm not addressing this side of the issue. Regarding sports programs such as the Y that do emphasize equal participation, witnessing a blatant disregard for the rules is disappointing. Playing some kids the entire game, while substituting others out 2 and 3 times in a game is just unacceptable. The head of the youth sports program [Ryan] is well aware of what's going on, and does nothing about it. The result? Shocker - the GIRLS in particular get much less playing time than the boys in co-ed leagues, and younger, less skilled players get to warm the bench much longer too. Ryan and his team (CHAI in particular) should be ashamed. And somewhat related, we noticed that one of the volunteer referees is the father to one of the youth players. We found out after noticing how one-sided his calls were, not to mention the fact that he was 'coaching' his son and his teammates while refereeing the game at the same time. While I believe some parents could do this task fairly, this clearly is not the case here. Fair play you say? Not so at Cooper-Koo YMCA my friends, not even close.

Amelia Amelia. 2 years ago

Expérience positive: Amazing facilities and friendly community but it was too competitive to get into the group fitness classes and sports (registration for classes open 24 hours in advance and fill up quickly). I ended up cancelling after 6 months. The large classes hosted in the gym (50+ registration spots) are relatively easy to get into but spin classes, yoga, barre, and sports on weekends and after 5pm on weekdays are hard to get into (there is high demand and only about 18 spots each).

Expérience négative: Very beautiful facility but this location doesn't have all the machines that the central location have there is no sauna in this location and you have to be a member Plus in order to use the steam room and hot tub

Expérience positive: Good gym, kid friendly especially on the weekend! Nice pool and the plus membership gives you access to whirlpool, steam room, and towel service. Not bad for about $150 a month for 2 adults and as many kids that live with you.

Expérience fantastique: Really awesome modern recreational facility at such a good price. I cancelled my membership at a fancy club in the financial district because the facilities here are better. If you can, get the membership plus option - free coffee and tea in the change room and towel service. Really wonderful place to work out and feels like a community

Expérience fantastique: It's a great place to workout, it has everything. The staff is very friendly. I am giving it 5 stars, but just one negative comment: people should say hi. It's very hard to make social contact here. We need that in life :)

Expérience négative: Wednesday soccer game is full of racist gym members and the (black guy)Wednesday gym attendant is so anti-black .I think the Wednesday program needs to be scrapped off until members learn, are taught or sign agreements not to be racist.

Expérience négative: Great physical space but whoever manages this facility should be fired. Front and back office staff are downright incompetent. I have had several issues getting my membership, renewing and registering for classes. No one is capable of resolving any issues, they keep forwarding your problem to someone else. My credit card was overcharged by front desk staff and it took months of complaints to head office to get a refund. It's a shame they don't hire more competent people to work here. It seems like staff are just there to hang out and use free internet to be on their phones and social media.

Expérience fantastique: The gym was built in 2015 for the Pan Am Game. It is ample and has fairly new equipment. Usually not busy and the staff is friendly. No parking in the facilities, but there is a streetcar stop right in front of it and a bike share spot across the street.

Expérience fantastique: Great facility, high level of hygiene, good spaces between machines, and considerate about covid-19 restrictions. Customer service is under staffed; however, they are helpful.

Tee. Bee. 3 years ago

Expérience négative: I don't really understand what happens in their back office that leads to every contact with a customer going so wrong. They seem to have trouble doing everything - enrolling new members, cancelling memberships, scheduling workouts, signing up for activities, and answering the phone. I was a member for years but couldn't take it anymore. Whoever manages this YMCA needs to get fired.

Expérience négative: I've been a member of the YMCA since 2018 Today I've seen sth that got me so angry and disgusted. While I was waiting to get inside I've seen a TTC worker ( streetcar driver ) asking to use the washroom. She asked the first person and she directed her to the manager which I guess the name was Thomas and he said it's ONLY FOR MEMBERS! so here's a thing with all the strict unnecessary policies going on with our community one thing is certainly unacceptable and that's being rude and disrespectful to community workers, that lady works 9 hrs shifts a day to help people such as that manager to commute around city and make lives of many much easier all she needed was 2 seconds to drop a leak and get back to her work. Let's put it this way Imagine that was a firefighter or an officer on duty What gives u the audacity to say the washroom is only for members! As a member of The YMCA, I'm highly ashamed of what I've seen.

Expérience fantastique: Fantastic multi-purpose facility for all ages, including wheelchair accessibility! Filled with friendly, helpful staff that always go above and beyond for their members. After countless tours and gym visits, I have finally found my home facility for the downtown core. Not only is this the largest facility, it is considerably cheaper than most commercial gyms in the area. This location boasts many amenities including, but not limited to: Full sized basketball court, indoor track, private /group studios, child care, lounge, 25 meter pool, whirlpool, steam room, workout equipment, cycling studio, change rooms for families and both genders, outdoor garden area with seating, one on one personal training and more! It is spacious and well designed, as it is newly constructed within the last 5 years. It is rare you will ever have to wait to use a piece of gym equipment, even during peak hours. They are constantly adding new equipment for their members (just last week two new squat racks, and a multipurpose machine). There are also frequent surveys that offer members to voice their opinions on what would improve their experience. My only gripe is occasionally the water pressure in the showers isn’t the greatest, but this makes sense as the sheer number available to use. There are more than enough lockers for everyone. If you are looking for a new facility, come stop in and get a free tour, you won’t regret it! :) They also offer “bring a buddy”, so if you know someone who holds a membership you can experience it for free for a day!

Glenn Williams 5 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Nice clean gym, I was visiting from my normal YMCA in Oshawa. The staff I interacted with were very friendly. It is not the biggest YMCA I have visited but its equipment is pretty new. It is a bit refreshing to see a Y with the majority of the staff being younger. Only down side is the only available parking is paid parking, which is similar to the Central location.

Tina M 5 years ago

Expérience positive: I really like coming here and enjoy the classes, however, I get really annoyed when the app announces that a certain instructor is teaching a class, and you show up and it's someone else. I have certain instructors whose classes I enjoy, and others I don't, so it would be nice if the schedule (app) was updated accordingly. I was told that the app was the most current schedule to follow, but it is often times not the case. I wouldn't mind if it was every so often, but it's happening almost weekly now.

Expérience positive: Two week trial gym review: Omg it’s so hot here, I’d rather be out in the snow. Clean, spacious, and almost complete enough for a serious weight room person.

Tony Lea 5 years ago

Expérience positive: Beautiful state-of-the-art that falls into disrepair far too often

A.J. Choudhry 5 years ago

Expérience positive: Nice facilities. But most of front office staff is not pleasant and friendly.

Aaron Pettman 5 years ago

Expérience positive: As a busy professional, yoga is a big part of my self care, and twice in recent weeks the yoga class I have planned my whole day around attending has been canceled without notice. In one case, no replacement class was offered. This is really unprofessional conduct that reflects poorly not only on this location but on the YMCA in general. The staff didn't seem concerned about the canceled classes and there seems to be no understanding that my entire schedule is thrown off. This Y in particular really needs to tighten up (change room runs out of towels sometimes for ie) and I'm reconsidering my membership. Won't be coming back to this location for classes.

David Paradis 5 years ago

Expérience négative: Poorly run facility that relies too heavily on volunteer labour. Paying rates similar to high end gyms for sub-par service/experience. Management needs to actually enforce the rules that are posted rather than relying on members to do so.

Brian Ma 5 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Excellent facilities

John Hryniuk 5 years ago

Expérience négative: I just received a 1 week pass & was really disappointed. NO shower pressure at all. NO hot water in the shower even if there was pressure. NO steam room. NO sauna. The upstairs was boiling hot and I felt like I was working out in a prison as there are no windows. If you want to charge people $80 a month for that you better make it a lot nicer.

Anton Kaminsky 5 years ago

Expérience positive: Great weight room and running track, decent choice of machines. Good location right next to a streetcar stop and usually not too busy. The gym is pretty small though and there are usually classes running there, I prefer the gym at the Grosvenor location.

Sarah Pottle 5 years ago

Expérience négative: I’m sad to be withdrawing my positive review. This was a great gym for families, but it still hasn’t begun to offer it’s pre-COVID kids programming. Family gym time, the bouncy castle, the indoor playground are all still unavailable. Even more frustrating, when I’ve called for updates, the call centre has no information about these programs, and it’s impossible to get through to actual gym’s front desk. I’m disappointed. Commercial gyms have been up and running for months, but they’ve cut their kids programming too (Goodlife JUMP for instance). It feels like kids are really being put last in the recovery.
