Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex: Avis
Expérience positive: I am a regular visitor to the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex and generally enjoy the facilities and services provided. Most of the staff are friendly and professional, creating a welcoming atmosphere. However, I’ve had two extremely unpleasant experiences with one particular receptionist, which left me feeling disrespected and undervalued. The first incident occurred when I left my One Pass card at the reception desk. When I returned to ask about it, the receptionist responded curtly and made no effort to check the lost-and-found or ask for my name. The next day, another staff member kindly asked for my details and quickly found the card. At the time, I thought it was simply a lack of helpfulness. However, my second experience was much worse. When I checked in recently, I said “thank you” after receiving my wristband. While I was still standing in front of her, she completely ignored me and moved her attention past me to warmly greet the customer behind me, who was not Asian. This interaction made me feel deeply disrespected and left me questioning whether her dismissive behavior toward me was intentional. What makes this even more disappointing is that the receptionist and I are both Asian. Sadly, I’ve observed that some individuals treat people of their own ethnicity with less respect while being more polite and accommodating to others, especially Caucasians. This behavior is disheartening and completely inappropriate for someone in a public-facing role. I emailed management about this, and while they acknowledged my concerns and stated the email was forwarded to the reception supervisor, I haven’t received any follow-up after four days. This lack of response has added to my disappointment. I still appreciate the great work of most staff and the excellent services at this center. However, I hope management addresses these concerns to ensure that all visitors are treated with respect and that feedback is taken seriously.
Expérience fantastique: Great gym and hot tub
Expérience fantastique: Gym, Ice rinks, pool, cafe…it checks the boxes!
Expérience positive: Good, affordable and suitable for kids
Expérience fantastique: I go here 3,times a week.strength training, yoga, stretching classes, steam room, jacuzzi and sauna!
Expérience positive: “Overall, it’s good, but in terms of monitoring people to ensure they have not allowed to enter the pool with outdoor clothes, shoes, or hats, unfortunately, it is poorly managed.”
Expérience positive: Very clean skating rink and washrooms!
Expérience positive: Nice, updated Facility. The food in the cafe could use some more healthier choices and variety.
Expérience fantastique: Three rinks. 2 of them have lots of seating and viewing areas. Good concession stand. Lots of lunch options and variety of alcoholic beverages
Expérience fantastique: Good centre, walking area around one of the arenas is nice, lots of seating areas, good ice rinks, the pool can get busy but not too bad. Also a restaurant, I haven't been in a while but last time I went the prices were reasonable. Definitely fulfills the role of a rec centre.
Expérience fantastique: Swimming pool, kids pool, 3 ice rinks place for walking and running indoor, well equipped gim
Expérience fantastique: Beautiful facility for all your favorite activities. We have been here for hockey, lacrosse and a spin class or two! Decent concession and parking can be challenging but turnover is quick. The main arena has lots of comfortable seating but be warned, the music system is LOUD.
Expérience positive: Good if you want a very warm hot tub and sauna, but not clean at all, I recommend the YMCA if you want cleanliness.
Expérience fantastique: I took ice skating lessons here and my instructor, Brooklyn, was really helpful, knowledgeable, and supportive. I can actually skate now thanks to her. The staff at skating desk is always super friendly too to help out with skate and helmet rentals!
Expérience fantastique: Really fun place and the gym is a good side it’s just missing some machines
Expérience fantastique: We recently visited the Poirier Sport Complex with our 4-month-old baby for the Jellyfish Program, and it was a fantastic experience! The program is designed as a fun activity to introduce babies to the water. While it's not focused on intense training, it’s a great way for parents and babies to get comfortable in the pool together. The instructors were friendly and created a welcoming environment, making it easy for parents to gain confidence. The pool itself was clean and well-maintained, providing a safe and enjoyable space for the little ones to explore the water. Highly recommended for young families!
Expérience fantastique: Nice place with amazing swimming pool
Expérience fantastique: Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex is really truly super amazing with the group fitness classes & amenities/swimming but the one thing is super annoying & frustrating is that this facility is really truly super disorganized meaning that they didn't even post on social media about on the Low Impact Aqua Fit being canceled on Tuesday September 17th & also they are really truly finally organized that on the pool schedule for Poirier for the Low Impact Aqua Fit, it says that it starts at 8:30am but when I go to & on the poirier website & stroll down, it says the actual & correct time.
Expérience fantastique: Hottest sauna around. Absolutely love it
Expérience négative: i had to wait 19 minutes for poutine and when i went to ask where it was the guy hadnt even put the fries in the fryer yet, then he said it would be ready in 5-7 minutes, please fire this guy, he made my day a lot worse, and my dog had already been put down 2 hours before, AND my grandma is in hospice, and is about to die, i just wanted this one thing and i couldnt even get my poutine in a reasonable time
Expérience fantastique: Final game of the Minto Cup. Coquitlam Adanacs 9 - Orangeville Northmen 6
Expérience fantastique: It’s a very high end city sport and pleasure complex, very clean and maintained. It’s serves the community of Coquitlam and professional staffing. Would recommend for families
Expérience positive: We have been taking our son for swimming and skating lessons. The skating lessons are pretty good with some very caring, and encouraging instructors. Our favorite skating instructor by far is Simon. He is knowledgeable, he knows how to engage all the kids, he cares, he is strict and friendly at the same time. He is super nice and professional and we hope to get the opportunity to have him as our son’s instructors in the future! Unfortunately, I haven’t seen any swimming instructors that are encouraging and entertaining for the young kids yet!
Expérience négative: Be careful of the swimming pool. The place is not clean. One of my friends has a skin disease for about a month and is under treatment.
Expérience positive: Overall, great complex sometimes almost all lines are reserved for class or something else. Also, towards the night there can be really looooong lineups. I think the process we have is absolutely archaic - why not put a scanner, let me scan and that spits out a wristband etc. No, everyone needs to wait in line for that one person who loves chatting with the receptionist
Expérience positive: I only use the pool and weight room. In my experience it is very busy. The change room floor are very dirty bring flip flops or sandals!
Expérience fantastique: I really like swimming pool, hot tub is very big and is not as deep so my little ones can stand with out tippy toeing in the tub. The universal change room are clean and there are a lot of stalls.
Expérience fantastique: This place is big and very well kept. Service is great.
Expérience positive: I like this complex for swimming and ice skating, the showers are sometimes crowded, other than that it’s a pretty good place.
Expérience fantastique: we usually go there and we love it, there are so many toys for kids to play and enjoy
Expérience fantastique: Great community, we enjoy to visit the pool
Expérience fantastique: Very nice community centre! The cafeteria is actually quite good!
Expérience positive: I enjoy exercising and swimming in the pool The environment is very comfortable with many big windows to look at outside of the building.
Expérience fantastique: Definitely do your kids swim classes here! Private showers available, plenty of parking and the water is so much warmer- for fun with the whole family- would still do Aquatics as a larger area and “things” kids can enjoy
Expérience fantastique: Excellent staff/volunteers. Went to watch the express with my son, we were treated so well by everyone. Above and beyond.
Expérience fantastique: It's so beautiful! Kids will love it!
Expérience fantastique: Great place to exercise, and relax in the sauna, steam and jacuzzi afterwards. Nice skating ranks to go skating with the kids.
Expérience positive: Bright, clean facility. I only saw ice rinks #2 & #3. Ample seating area and excellent rinks for the players. There are indoor viewing areas as well for those who don't want to be rink side. There is minimal rink side seating for rink #3. Rink 2 has comfortable stadium seating. Parking can be a challenge during tournaments, so give yourself extra time to find parking.
Expérience fantastique: I go there less than a month, but really enjoying their swimming pool and jacuzzi with a mountain view. Highly recommend aqua fitness programs and exploring other classes. I like that in their gym treadmills are located at the windows so you can enjoy nice views while running
Expérience fantastique: Fantastic facility. Go every week. Gym, great hot tub, steam and sauna, swimming pool. Your choice! Highly recommend.
Expérience fantastique: Took my 4 yr old to first new swim class today and he was too scared to go into pool, literally clinging onto me. The instructor pulled in a support staff member (rhylie?) and he was able to magically get him comfortable enough to jump in within minutes! So thankful for his amazing effort here. 5 star team!
Expérience fantastique: Facilities are new and nice glass environments. My kids come here for hockey and swimming mostly. Parking is always ample but you have to drive around the complex. Sometimes gets confused with Coquitlam community centre but overall it’s nice layout and exercise and pool area.
Expérience positive: This pool is fantastic! The staff is excellent, and it's easily accessible for disabled individuals. The large, free parking lot is a bonus, and the facilities, including change areas, showers, and washrooms, are meticulously maintained. The lockers are functional, admission prices are reasonable, and there are spacious pools for both laps and leisure. The inclusion of a steam room and dry sauna adds to the experience, and the foyer features intriguing, constantly changing sports-related displays.
Expérience fantastique: Great skating rink and friendly staff. If you go often make sure to get a ONE card.
Expérience positive: I liked it here, I watched the Coquitlam express team play! It was so fun to watch but the food are a bit overpriced but its okay! I loved it here!
Expérience négative: I told the lady at the front desk (blue/green eyes and brown hair, hand tattoos and long nails) that I had some drops ins available as I was registered by my health care provider, and she just completely stopped in her tracks, looked at me like I was crazy, and then looked at me so rudely, giving me a nasty side eye, before typing in my phone number and realizing that I was right. She made me feel extremely uncomfortable, and unwelcomed. Please improve your customer service.
Hello Jasmine and thank you for reaching out. We are sorry you had this experience and have shared your concerns with staff at the facility. We hope to see you again soon.
Expérience fantastique: Great facilities! We went swimming during Christmas week and the facilities are clean and well-maintained. The front desk staff were also very friendly - they had goggles available for purchase and they were very helpful when answering all our questions.
Expérience fantastique: Love this pool. Great staff. Easy access for disabled folks. Big free parking lot. Lots of change areas, showers, washrooms - all are kept very clean! Lockers work. Affordable admission prices. Big pools for laps or leisure. Steam room and dry sauna. Plus they have interesting, always changing, sports-related displays in foyer.
Expérience positive: Super nice facility but very busy. They could use a 2nd gym and there are usually 8 people in the pool and 38 in the hot tub...
Expérience fantastique: This is a wonderful facility, Coquitlam sure does these types of places well! Seating in the arena was comfortable, dressing rooms were spacious and everything was clean. Host team played really well, glad to see another great hockey town.
Expérience négative: Would not recommend this place went to the concession and was told the order goes by weight and was changed $9.95 for this. Would highly recommend not using any of these services. I don’t know about you but this doesn’t look right. We have regularly stopped here after swimming for years and will not return on our future trips.
Hello Zack and thank you for reaching out. We are sorry you had this experience and have shared your concerns with staff at the facility. If you haven’t already done so, please reach out to them at via email at [email protected]. We hope to see you again soon.
Expérience fantastique: Nice small venue. Seats afford good views no matter where you are sitting.
Expérience fantastique: We love taking the grandchildren to the skating ring, the swimming pool is small enough to keep an eye on them. My only objection if I may is how hardly dressed the female swim instructors are. I understand times have changed, however wearing thong bathing suits I personally feel is a little too much, not appropriate for the ocassion. My humble opinion. There ought to be a little more conservative guidelines.
Expérience positive: The place was great but locker rooms for the pool are pretty disgusting loads of hair but there are 2 pools, both clean and big
Hello and thank you for reaching out. We appreciate your feedback and have share it with facility staff for review.
Expérience positive: Swim instructors are good. Helpful front desk staff. Pool is nice. But their are hardly any chairs for parents to sit to view their child’s swimming lessons (there is ample room for more) and not enough shower stalls.
Hello and thank you for reaching out. We appreciate your feedback and have share it with facility staff for review.
Expérience fantastique: We went to this awesome sports and leisure complex as ISSofBC volunteers encouraging newcomers to speak more English in daily life by watching a hockey game together! Love the energetic vibes with lots of positivity and glory of history! Proud of living in Tri-city and share the holistic hall of fame! ❤️
Expérience positive: Great rec centre… when I visit relatives in coquitlam I use the weight area. Clean and nice place to workout. Could have more equipment. Missing some key machines and need heavier barbells, but good place for drop in. Pool and steam rooms are great afterwards.
Expérience positive: An excellent city run recreation facility, clean, well run, friendly and professional staff. They have an above average cafe/grill concession establishment on the second floor of the lobby.
Expérience négative: I have been here many times over the years and overall, the ice is excellent and facilities great. should be 4 or 5 stars. within the last year though things have gotten odd. missed bookings. double bookings of icetime. miscommunication with league organizers. not the same standard it used to be. and for some reason the showers are boiling hot. after numerous efforts its still scorching hot. i dont know how someone hasnt filed a lawsuit yet. if any city workers are reading this go ahead and send someone to test the showers for the ice rinks. still better than ice cold i suppose..
Hello Kien and thank you for reaching out. We are sorry you had this experience and have shared your concerns with staff at the facility. Our Maintenance team is aware of the temperature issues and are working to have that fixed shortly. If you haven’t already done so, please reach out to our Bookings team via email at [email protected] to sort out any problems with missed bookings. We hope to see you again soon.
Expérience positive: Overall facility is nice. The gym is lacking to sayvthe least
Expérience positive: I have been attending at least 3x per week for a month and Great facilities. However, the pool has a ring around it and I'm wondering do they not clean regularly? Also on several occasions it has been witnessed and brought to life guards attention that men are showering off with soap washing their privates front and back where the rinse station is. This is not a private shower and people should not be doing this in public! I guess there's no such thing as pool etiquette anymore!
Expérience négative: i have been wanting to use the assisted pull-up machine, however they NEVER repair the broken machines at the gym so it has just been sitting there for a decade… its clear that the person in charge of the gym doesnt care about how things are going or what people complain about. I am very disappointed. update repair this machine RIGHT NOW or else ill cancel my membership
We are sorry to hear this. This piece of gym equipment has been down for repair since the end of August and should be back in service shortly. Hope to see you again soon.
Expérience fantastique: Excellent facility and staff, great place for swimming/skating lessons!
Expérience fantastique: Really good facility's. Went for a steam and sauna session super hot. Sweated it
Expérience positive: Nice facility but way too busy. The gym is too small. I think Coquitlam needs more recreation facilities.
Expérience fantastique: Excellent facility, clean, well staffed, safe and inclusive. Great community sports centre
Expérience positive: Great facilities for all kinds of activities. Modern and well maintained.
Expérience fantastique: Went there to swim with my three year old. Very clean complex with a great family changing facility. Will be back soon!
Expérience fantastique: Great time skating and Fit 360 and pilates. There is weight room and aquatic pool too.
Expérience positive: It’s a good facility and we usually use their gym. The gym is small, the benches and weights are always taken, and kind of crowded most the time. I don’t mind wait for other people to finish their workouts when it comes to share the equipment. But I think the management can afford to invest more in their gym when they see such demand.
Expérience négative: the receptionist was evil. Yesterday we go there with my mother and the receptionist I don’t know why but behave aggressively and so rude. I’m shocked
Thank you for reaching out Nadia. We have shared your concerns with staff at the facility. We hope to see you again soon!
Expérience fantastique: I like do workout here so much!)))
Expérience fantastique: Great warm pool. Other rec centers pools have been much colder compared to Poirier. Good place for kids, hot tub diving boards and deep pool for more experiences swimmers.
Expérience positive: My lil girl loves it here and I love the amenities especially. Nice staff overall fun family place.
Expérience positive: They have great amenities and staff. Parking can be a bit difficult when it’s super busy even though they have a lot of parking spots. It has a good sized gym and variety of group fitness classes
Expérience positive: 3 rinks and 2 pools and fitness facilities. Large complex adjacent to the public library. Plenty to do for folks of all ages.
Expérience fantastique: Great newer facility nice ice pool and exercise. Meeting rooms are nice and staff are super friendly. Also the home of the Coquitlam Sport's Hall of Fame. Worth popping in just for a look around or to catch a Jr game Hockey or Lacrosse well worth the visit
Expérience positive: Really disappointed in the low temperature of the hot tub yesterday (Thursday). I was told the water is changed Tuesday and Friday so it should have been warm.
Expérience positive: Fantastic resource for family friendly activities! The only complaint I have is how stressful it is to register for classes. You have to be online at the exact time registration begins in order to get a spot! Once I was 2 minutes late and the classes were completely full!
Expérience fantastique: Amazing weight room. Very impressed with the equipment and the fact there’s a separate platform with a large mirror for form check. Though the dumbbells only go to 65, it’s perfect for everyone and their fitness level. The facility is clean and even though it was “busy”, still got a solid workout with lots of variety. Great facility!
Expérience négative: The swimming pool is crazy busy. They close most lanes for swimming lessons and leave a very small area for people to swim. I found that receptions are very rude. Not my first choice and the swimming pool has no water slides. I took my son here for his lesson and 5 minutes before his lesson he sat in the corner of the swimming pool playing with water the lifeguard comes to him asking him to leave because he has No wrist band or go pay for the 5 minutes.
Expérience positive: Facility is very bright and clean. Sorry, I'm a bit of a freak on this LOL. We went for family skating and toonie skating. With toonie skates and helmets are included. Which is really nice. Nice Playlist and not extremely loud. We really enjoyed the experience except one thing, those things that supposed to be used by kids and people who just learn how to keep their balance are very often in possession of those who doesn't seem to need it. And those who really struggle they are left with no support. As staff member told me they have limited amount of those and are distributed first come first serve so if you are not among those first to enter the ice and standing there at the entrance you almost out of options.
Expérience fantastique: PSLC is a great place to play hockey, go for a swim or play basketball, or just hang out with friends at their cafeteria. Staffs are always welcoming and there is plenty of parking for everyone. They also have some memorabilia on display for sports enthusiasts.
Expérience positive: Needs more parking! That is all. My GF misread and we went for a skate, but.... THIS skate, required children. So.... We'll be back.
Expérience fantastique: Very nice hockey stadium! Good seating
Expérience positive: Quick access into the venue. Reasonable seating for view of the ice. Restriction for serving beer is 1 per person so everyone who wanted a beer stood in an long slow line for that, then again for food. Washroom lines were faster. Exiting the parking lot was very slow.
Expérience fantastique: Lovely little warm pool for kids swimming lessons. My daughter was hesitant to join the swimming class and teacher Daniel was patient and made it very fun for the preschoolers, she is all smiles now.
Expérience fantastique: I saw my first Express hockey game here, had a great time and the whole complex is super. I also had the worst hot dog I’ve ever had in my entire life, ditto for the other people in my group. I won’t let a hot dog affect my rating, but...... you guys should start buying your wieners somewhere else!
Expérience fantastique: Went for the 1st time today the girls at the front desk were great, helpful and kind the pool staff was great also will definitely be coming back! Thank you!
Expérience fantastique: I went to Physio. Mark is very friendly, knowledgeable, helpful by explaining to me re exercises. I've known Mark for many years. Receptionist is friendly plus professional at the desk.
Expérience fantastique: Excel physio very friendly staff and professional physiotherapist .%100
Expérience fantastique: Always enjoy swimming here. Bright, water is fairly clear. Ample guards. Lockers 25c. Large hot tub. Obviously enjoyed by many people.
Expérience négative: My son has had the swimming kids 7 lesson for 2 years failed for7 times and spent over 400 bucks not even pass one level. And not just us. His two classmates also complained. We switched to city centre and passed right away.
Expérience fantastique: A great place to watch a game with a hot dog and a pop!
Expérience fantastique: Nice staff and good facilities
Expérience positive: Great place if you're looking for an all in one sport facility. Has a nice pool, sauna, hot tub, and ice rink facilities. Only downside is the gym isn't very big and you'll struggle to find a machine or station you want during peak hours.
Expérience négative: I had been training here for nearly a year with my boxing coach in the spare room used for classes, approved by staff when we first started. A couple weeks ago the "manager" approached us and told us that boxing was not allowed in the gym according to the guidelines, even though the gym itself has boxing equipment and classes AND we had asked staff when we first started and they said it was allowed. I asked the manager why it was fine for a whole year, and she said that staff must have been misinformed. I then asked for her to show us in writing where this was in the guidelines, she was not able to show us this. We went from having no issues in the gym and having a great area to train, to suddenly being kicked out one day with no proof of these guidelines. Extremely unprofessional and won't ever be returning.
Expérience positive: Busy most of the times we have been there at least the pool area but the pool on its own is nice an new The place looks like they maintain it Lots of fun for the kids In the kids area and in particular from the jumping board
Expérience fantastique: Clean & fresh. Plenty of plate-droppers and phone-starers. But it's public. Whaddayagonnado? Feeling a little chubby & need to work out? Go!
Expérience fantastique: Great spot for kids to get used to public swim spots
