Expérience fantastique: The Jamie Platz YMCA, my second home, makes exercising and keeping in shape a fun and exciting experience! I love the welcoming and friendly staff and the enthusiastic and highly experienced instructors! My Aquafit and Aqua Zumba instructors have been instrumental in getting me in shape and the class participants are kind, encouraging, and loads of fun - a real community! I look forward to working out 5 days a week! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Expérience négative: The kids don’t share the spaces like the ball court, staff is very unhelpful and they don’t care, don’t blame them, I think most of them are volunteers, the plus member ship is not worth it, the big selling point was the locker, I got a tiny one next to the ground. I think this location has their core clientele and it’s not worth it for new people looking for a membership, it would be in your best interest to find another location. The monthly price tag is ridiculous for the experience so far. If you’re looking for a new gym to be a part of, this is not it for you.

With $140.00 monthly fee, and yearly reasons why the rates need to be increased, is it too much to ask to get what I pay for?? Inquired 3 different staff members over 90 minutes and they all had excuses and 0 solutions. Multiple Dirty towel bins stored outside change rooms.

Expérience fantastique: Amazing early and easy drop off for my sons summer camp. It runs for a week which is 8:30am but can drop off as early as 7:30 am for free. It is my sons 2nd summercamp and he had so much fun. They have very attentive instructors. I'm so glad it worked out for my little boy as his 1st camp at move learn play was a disaster as he was bullied the entire 4 days and asked not to come in anymore on the 5th day. I have him scheduled for another week here at YMCA.

Expérience négative: You should train your lifeguards to do better. We've never had an issue with our 8 year old getting his swim test bracelet and we come here all the time. This one and only day we had different lifeguards and they said no due to him swimming with his arms in the water. Obviously all of your lifeguards accommodate to different rules. He swam it twice without touching or stopping and they still denied him. He was really upset and confused. That's not even the worse part though. This lifeguard then was very obviously talking about me to another employee. We got our refund and left, will never be back to this location.

Expérience fantastique: All day camp is great for kids to run around and having fun in an organized environment. Only some camp staff may be too young to be a staff working with young kids. My son heard some nasty comments from a young male staff talking about the kids, the same staff also saying he broken all the rules on the 1st day of the camp. I think this male staff did not have the maturity to be a working staff and not suitable to supervise the young kids yet. YMCA need screen their camp staff more strictly. Except this particular event, i still give YMCA day camp a 10/10 because it is well organized fun tiring day for my kid.

Expérience fantastique: I registered adult drop-in swimming lessons on Sundays. I was very lucky to have Lechlan as the instructor. He is an excellent teacher who is very responsible and professional. He is also very friendly and patient. Lechlan teaches in an concise and proficient way. As an adult with many years of poor swimming experience, I thought that it would be very hard for me to learn and improve my skills. With Lechlan, I learned a lot and improved very quickly only after 3 lessons! I am so grateful. Wish him all the best!

Expérience positive: I think the swimming pool was very clean and I enjoyed lane swimming. The class I attended was fun and challenging, with an encouraging instructor. I did find it tricky to register on line but I’m sure it will get easier.

Expérience négative: Unimpressed with child minding, it was our first time trying it out and they discriminated against my daughter. They lied to me and the front staff saying they weren’t going to take her because they don’t have enough baby toys, and she would take too much attention away from the other kids because she’s 2?? And they told me to book next time. I went to the front staff to book and they told me they don’t know why they turned her away, and that they had space and are not at capacity. She went back and confirmed they had space and could take my daughter. The supervisor came out to sincerely apologize as the staff was very unprofessional and discriminatory as they decided they did not want to take care of my daughter. I’m disappointed with the staff and do not feel comfortable with the child minding staff.

Although teaching instructors are very friendly and well behave. Front staff are very helpful and friendly.

Expérience négative: I tried to call them but someone would legitimately pick up the phone and hang up immediately constantly. Then finally they took the phone off the handset itself so that they wouldn't answer any calls. Their staff can be quite rude and standoff-ish. This is the worst YMCA I've ever experienced as far as their staff goes and I literally travel all over Cananda every week, so this is really saying something. Horrible YMCA location.

She tried summer camps somewhere else but she likes YMCA the most. I recommend YMCA summer camps if you would like your kids be entertained and learn new skills, YMCA would be the best choice!

The lady who work today July 7,2023 at the reception around 3 ish was probably having a bad day, she forgot that she must respect and value all customers or people around her. I hope she had a training for good manners and right conduct. She seemed to be needing a lot of patience sitting in the front. She doesn’t have good communication skills. Expérience fantastique: I love all the group fitness options at Jamie Platz. Right now, I attend the evening Aquafit classes three nights a week and each night the session and instructor is different. I really enjoy the varied approaches each instructor brings. As well, because many of the same people attend the same classes, there is a real sense of family and community between us all. I look forward to my time at the Y and intend to continue to make it a constant in my life. I would highly recommend it to anyone who was looking to improve their health and wellness.

Expérience fantastique: I like that I have a sense of belonging, and feel included. I enjoy entering the building, and being greeted. That greeting adds to my motivation to do my best. In the workout centre there are plenty of spaces to do warm-ups, physio exercises, weighs, cardio and more. The people there are terrific! It's a great facility for everyone.

Expérience fantastique: I go to Jamie Platz YMCA at least 6 times a week, it is my home from home. Everyone is very friendly and the staff are more than willing to help you with anything.

Expérience négative: I had a bad experience recently at YMCA Collingwood area because last March 6, 2023 (Monday) we went there together with my kids for my son’s soccer lesson, so my son changed his shoes since his wearing a sneakers which is not allowed during practice, he put his sneaker in the family change room locker and unfortunately his shoes was STOLEN and i was frustrated because it was only worn a couple of times and it’s his favourite shoes. I reported the incident to the facility staff and I was told to to email the manager directly and sadly I haven’t gotten any response from the manager even after sending two separate email about the incident. I also tried calling the YMCA to talk to the manager but I was not able to get a hold with the manager because he was not on duty. Today, I spoke with the manager March 8, 2023 and she said she can’t do anything about it, i tried asking if they could look the CCTV footage in the lobby for us to identify the culprit and for then to help me with the incident. But sadly she can’t do anything about it. If only they could’ve offered me anything to help or maybe a discount or something that would at least appease the situation or the incident that we experience, but unfortunately I was only given a response that they can’t do anything about it. So, since this incident happen it’s hard to trust the facility for safety of your belongings especially it was a designated area to store your personal belongings.

Expérience négative: Kids were members of the swim lessons for years. They started at William Lutsky and continued at Jamie Platz. Two years ago their out of schedule due to unavailability of swimming schedule (talked with Manager at J. Platz), and this situation happened again this year. They have more swimmers than the available swim instructors/schedules. Seems no one tracking the swimmers numbers towards number of instructors. Keep adding new members but displacing older members by not adding new swim schedules. Good service is a responsibility of YMCA thus to provide all members a swim schedule. Thanks. Please improve.

Expérience fantastique: I have to travel for work to AB and I practice olympic weightlifting. I was glad to see two lifting platforms and Rogue bumper plates at this Y. I don’t know if it’s okay to drop the bar, though. Today’s training was light weight so didn’t have to drop the bar anyway. One of the staff members approached me, I thought I was in trouble but he just complimented my technique. Friendly staff. Thanks for having me today.

Expérience négative: The staff was extremely rude. Front desk staff were cursing in front of children. They were speaking loudly among themselves, yelling and cursing. They did not smile and offered no assistance. Unfortunately, we will not be returning.

Expérience positive: I do go here a lot ilI love how there's quite a lot to do but the reason this can't be 5 star's is because of the staff. The staff are sometimes rude and never helpful. For example I went and asked about swimming lessons and one staff member said one thing and the other said something completely different. Please fix this and get better staff.

Expérience fantastique: Good value for families because of the included swim classes & childminding. Excellent Plus change-rooms; hot tubs, steam room, towel service (well worth the extra cash!). I also love that their are 2 squash courts (1 squash, 1 squash/raquetball convertible court). Impeccably clean, overall. Also the weight room has a good amount of squat racks etc. Can always get on any equipment that I want to. Always friendly, hospitable service from all the staff including all the caretakers (who always have a smile for you!), but especially want to mention Greg, and Karin for their outstanding customer service and competence. It can be difficult to reach a staff member by phone, but I have noticed that this is because the staff is so busy helping in person clients, they won't cut a person short to answer the phone. A good way to get in touch is by email actually, they always respond within a day or so!

Expérience négative: 1. Overpriced gym with bad floorings and old equipment that are almost always out of order. 2. No one ever picks up the phone when I try to call for more info, even when the mangers are clearly visible doing nothing while sitting inside the office all the time. 3. Registration/help desk is always understaffed and there is always a long wait to see that single person to get help.
