Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton: Avis
Expérience négative: I do not mind waiting in a long lineup, but it is frustrating when some people "reserved" the court for themselves. Me and other players who are not part of their group we're kicked off the court even though it was supposed to be open for everyone. I felt pissed at that moment, thinking, "I drove 30 minutes paid 30 dollars just to be turned away from playing volleyball." In the end, I ended up playing on the badminton courts instead. Just a waste of time and money. Rocky Ridges YMCA was a better option anyway. (Just Personal Experiences)
Expérience positive: It is very fun but the crosswalk with the flag makes me mad
Expérience négative: This place can be bad i had multiple incidents Where staff was really bad with helping me I was accused of stealing stuff when I didn’t and which it was an accident then a lady manger says bunch of lies which was really making me bad I now have cracked my phone and will never come back again worse part is she mocks me and had a bad attitude saying I yelled at but I only raised my tone a little bit I will never come back thanks YMCA.
Expérience fantastique: Super nice staff at the wave rider, very helpful and kind. One guy helped me son and daughters friend to start surfing. He was so patient and great at teaching. They were very customer oriented.
Expérience fantastique: The biggest YMCA in the world ! Great staff , so many options of things to do . Extremely clean facility ! Library, arts room , pools , cardio rooms ...so many options ! I love coming here !
Expérience positive: We are actually members at a much smaller YMCA but decided to mix it up a little bit and go to Seton. This place is huge! There was a lot going on, and it seemed really busy (early Sunday morning), but we didn't have any trouble finding parking, lockers, or getting on machines in the gym. It is all spread out. The lockers are on the lower floor with the gymnasums, and the track and gym machines are above. There is an elevator by the stairs.
Expérience fantastique: Very nice for kids and toddlers to enjoy water activities and play.
Expérience positive: I took my daughter public swimming here. It was a nice clean facility with plenty to do. You can spend hours here. The only reason I knocked off a star was too many wristbands. She ended up with three by the end. One for admission, then we were told by the lifeguard to get another one because she’s under 14 and then a third for the surfing wave pool even though we had a signed waiver. Why not just have one wristband for everything instead of constant trips to the lifeguard office to get wristbands? Also the lifeguards seemed a little overbearing. Pretty minor complaints in an otherwise great facility.
Expérience fantastique: Overall love the facility!!! The pool is what dreams are made of. Also, wanted to give a quick shout out to Adam, one of the personal trainers.I recently had the pleasure of working with Adam at the YMCA and I couldn’t be more grateful for the experience. From the very first session, Adam showed a high level of professionalism and respect. He truly listened to my concerns and understood my goals, which helped me regain both my hope and confidence in managing my recovery. Adam’s approach was tailored to my needs, and his support was unwavering. He instilled in me a sense of belief that I could overcome the challenges ahead. Would definitely recommend booking with him! Feel free to adjust any details to better fit your experience!
Expérience fantastique: Would absolutely come again! We specifically came for the fitness center and pool and we were not disappointed. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful, and the gym was clean, new and well organized with a track, an abundance of free weights and machines. The pool has two sections, one side being for a family/kid friendly area with two amazing water slides, hot tub, steam room, and even a surfing station and the other side being for people who want to swim lengths and exercise which also has a hot tub. The locker rooms were very clean and my girlfriend and I enjoyed that there was a universal change room so we could share a bag. My only beef with this place is that it doesn't have a smith machine but other than that everything was great. I recommend coming earlier so that the gym isn't as busy.
Expérience positive: Lots of lanes for swimming rarely have to share. Gym very well equipped-nice hot tub s and one adults only-big sauna less busy on weekdays- only comppaint6psrkint
Expérience positive: Nice place. Lots to do for the whole family. Wish they had more spectator seating for swim meets! It is a great place.
Expérience fantastique: Nice place with modern gym and plenty of different other options like swimming pool, library
Expérience négative: Locker area very dirty. Lifeguards inconsistently enforcing rules. Yelled at me for giving my child a toy in a basket directly beside the splash park but had no problem with other people using the exact same toys. Putting children's toys beside a children’s play area without a sign and then yelling at people for using them is probably not going to give a good impression. Won’t be back.
Expérience négative: Disappointed in the staff at Seton. Today is 30th September truth and reconciliation day however the website states normal hours and the facility had no signage or flyers or anything to state it will be open as a “stat” holiday hour setup. Over 100 regulars attending the gym in the morning we all stood out the doors at 5:30AM discussing why it’s not open with zero warning. I have then proceeded to drive to YMCA Shane Holmes centre where I am currently writing this review at 6:30 AM and they are also closed however they had the basic decency to put flyers on the doors stating 7:00AM opening. For facilities that cost 100’s of millions of dollars to build it’s clear to see where they drew a budget……
Expérience négative: Half the place was closed because some kid had diarrhea in the pool. Website didn't mention it was closed it said it was open. No discount even though half the pool was closed. Then it took 30 min to get in. Have to show ID for my wife and myself absolutely ridiculous. The pool is very small and the kiddy place is very lame. It's a shame such a nice building but very dissatisfied.
Expérience positive: Brrrrrr... Had a shivering cold toddler in the lazy river and child's waterpark. Some folks call this the "blue lip" pool.
Expérience fantastique: Great place to come swimming. Huge competition pool so there is usually room to have your own lane. Plus the YMCA child minding is the greatest gift to parents. 2 hours of time to yourself at the gym
Expérience négative: I am disappointed in the service, the employees of Sport Complex do not inform me about all the details of the terms of membership, twice due to inaccurate information from the employees themselves, I am burdened with paying an additional month, I never want to be their client again
Expérience positive: Angie was very helpful in booking drop in classes for us.. Thank you Angie. The location is large with great amenities and fitness options but registering for classes online isn't as seamless as it should be. That could use some improvements. We always seem to be able to get registered if we call in but there aren't always classes showing online.
Expérience négative: This ymca has dishonest staff that will steal from you. One staff member picked up my daughter’s headphones after a medical incident (and thanks to him). He then put a note on them and gave them to a manager. That manager denies this. And the person above her she referred me to just apologized for US losing them, after their staff admitted to having them and then losing them.
Expérience positive: Excellent, clean, beautiful very thorough facilities both gym and pool! Really nice area and friendly staff. I cut 1 star because parking is only free for 2.5 hours (which isn’t sufficient for a decent amount of time in the gym and pool in addition to changing, showering and getting where you need to go) otherwise you have to pay $10 for the day. Outside of that! Excellent facilities and experience!
Expérience négative: Called to pause my and my wife’s memberships, call agent took 30+ minutes to complete this simple task. I pay monthly on the 7th, she paused the account starting on the 2nd so I lost 5 days that I already paid for?? The other account didn’t even get paused because of “errors”. Called a second time and nothing changed/resolved due to previous agents “technical errors”. Safe to assume it’s due to incompetence and not the system itself as pausing memberships is a common request?
Expérience fantastique: I use the gym multiple times during the week in the mornings, the lap pool multiple times during the week, and my family uses the play structure in the children's pool at least once on the weekend. We love this place. The staff in the morning are incredibly helpful ALWAYS cheerful and have smiles on their faces. They always wish you a "good morning" when you are coming and a "have a great day!" when you are leaving. The fitness equipment is always clean and in working order. The pool is fantastic. I love it here. I have quit going to many gyms in my life. Not this one. I wish I could give it 6 stars.
Expérience positive: Adult swimming is excellent but the temperature in the kids pools way too cold
Expérience positive: Nice pool. A bit small but they have the steam rooms, hot tub, slides, men’s/women’s/universal change rooms (with bathing suit tumblers and body wash in the private showers. All in all it’s a great location!
Expérience fantastique: This is an excellent place for athletics and family to hang out or practice their sports because there have a very big water park and water slide. There’s also have some basketball and badminton for people to drop in. If you want to drop in make sure you do it on Friday 12 pm
Expérience négative: I wanted to have a nice relaxing morning with my 2.5 years old. I took her to the pool here. She saw a kids bucket and grabbed it. The lifeguard came to her, grabbed the bucket from her and kept walking saying something. My two years daughter was confused and scared and felt like she did something wrong. She wanted to go home. I came to him and tried to talk. He was arrogant, cocky talked very fast and didn’t look at me. I asked him to look at me while he is talking. He kept looking to opposite direction still saying something. He said that he has to watch the pool. I looked around there were three more lifeguards so that wasn’t a case. I understand there are rules in places. My point is….. this not about what he did or said but how he did it. He made our stay at the pool uncomfortable and confusing. My little one kept asking me to go home, so we did. This only our third time there and we already experienced rudeness from workers twice. We just recently got a membership for the whole family. I will try a different location if people who work there are rude and bossy I will cancel our membership. P.S. let me know if you need kids buckets . I have no problem to donate them to you
Expérience fantastique: My wife and I visited the world’s largest YMCA facility in Calgary that provides opportunities for recreation, leisure, and learning to people of the city, irrespective of their age, gender, or ethnicity. The YMCA at this location is prodigious, and it has several courts for various kinds of sports, a sizable gym with lots of equipment, art studios, a theatre, a day care, swimming pools with diving springboards, a water park, indoor skating rinks, arenas, a viewing area, plenty of sitting arrangements in the clean, spacious, and alluring corridor, and more. Also, there is a colossal Calgary Public Library in the center, and an enticing cafeteria, named Good Earth Coffeehouse, on the main floor, where we enjoyed coffee. The coffee was delicious and the service was friendly and courteous. This is a must visit place even if you do not intend to exercise, swim, or participate in any of the activities.
Expérience fantastique: Best YMCA I’d ever been to! Newest facility with Good earth coffee and a library. Swimming pools, hot tubs and women’s changing rooms are spotless.
Expérience négative: I have been a member since one year. Today , 21st May2024 at 12.40 pm , I had the most horrible experience at child care centre. I had gone to gather information for my child admission. I rang the bell, a lady came out, I wished her good afternoon, she didn’t respond and just said “ YES” I told her , you look very unwelcoming and she said, I can’t let you in, I told her I am not coming in , I need information for my child’s admission, she said we are full and our wait list is also full. Her attitude was very indifferent towards for me for her own reasons. Is there any decorum for the staff or are they entitled to keep their jobs irrespective of how they treat members. Unbelievably stale attitude. Great infrastructure, extremely poor customer service. I would never send my child to such a rude and unwelcoming place.
Expérience négative: The daycare/preschool director flat out said my kid was autistic. He was treated like he wasn't important. She made him feel like he was annoying rather than the bubbly, full of energy little boy he is. She's lazy, unmotivated, and shouldn't be overlooking several locations. Rude to her staff (whom are all wonderful) Grace was the only reason we stayed as long as we did. My kid is flourishing now that he's in a different environment.
Expérience négative: I was just at the YMCA with my kids and all I can say is this will be our last time visiting. The lifeguards are super aggressive and have been going around basically harassing mother with their children. Non stop arguing with the parents. I could only wonder what these kids have as parents in their home life. Arrogant teenagers.
Expérience fantastique: This is a stunning facility. Pool, Library, Fitness, Ice Rink and more . It is very clean, the staff are friendly and very helpful. The parking lot is enormous and easy to navigate. We are incredibly fortunate to have this and other facilities like this in Calgary. I spent an afternoon watching a meet in the pool in which my granddaughter was participating. The seating was good and there was enough for everyone. A beautiful facility. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Expérience fantastique: It's a great facility with a wide variety of activities. I go mainly for the gym and have had no bad experiences. Just make sure to lock up your belongings with a good lock.
Expérience fantastique: Simply an excellent facility. Excellent atmosphere and services. One of my favourite places to stop in and experience that’s refreshing and genuine. We visit as often as we can.
Expérience fantastique: Amazing facility with a big gym, swimming pools, water park, skating, badminton, basketball, etc. Sometimes, it could be a bit overcrowded. Most crowded areas are gym, lazy river, and hot tub. The price is reasonable if you think of coming regularly. Also, you can put a hold on membership for up to 2 months at a time for free. So, you can even put hold every alternate month. But the atmosphere is great so once you start, you won't like to put hold.
Expérience négative: This review is for the gym area only. The one place I go to get away from kids. I'm met with a bunch of kids taking selfies on machines, running around heckling other gym goers and hanging off of the running track shouting at the people below in the gymnasium. If your child still requires adult supervision- don't drop them off at the Y by themselves and make them other people's problems. Why is management allowing kids who act like 5 year olds to the gym unparented? If they are there to work out- fine. But the moment they turn it into their playground- they should be kicked out.
Expérience fantastique: The best YMCA in the city. Big pool and good fitness equipment. Can get a bit busy in the evenings and weekends during the day.
Expérience négative: Despite their claims of creating a safe and inclusive environment, the YMCA has failed to effectively prevent verbal abuse and harassment in their facility. I have personally experienced instances of verbal attacks, and the management has chosen to ignore the situation, dismissing claims of harassment. It is unacceptable for an organization to permit such toxic behavior to persist without intervention. Members should be able to exercise in a supportive and respectful atmosphere, devoid of harassment and abuse. The YMCA and its staff have not succeeded in cultivating a safe space for its members, and I would advise individuals contemplating membership to carefully reconsider supporting an establishment that fails to address such behavior.
Expérience fantastique: It is HUGE. It has everything you could and could not imagine. I was shocked when I went in to use the library. I saw water park, swimming pool, ice skating, gym, child care .... .... The locals are so lucky! ❤️
Expérience négative: The change rooms are filthy as are the bathrooms in the fitness centre. Urine in the floors, the wall, it stinks. The sinks don’t work, 8/10 times the toilet is unflushed. Dirty diapers left in change rooms, it’s absolutely disgusting. Fitness centre full of 10 year olds who apparently are permitted to be there unattended. Running, screaming, messing around on machines they don’t know how to use while others wait for them to be done play time. They’re dropping weights all over the place, running and bumping into ppl lifting. How is this ok? People deserve to be able to work out without little kids all over the place. Watching these kids doing dangerous stuff and the staff who did not care at all, sat there and watched. This behaviour would never be permitted in any gym. This is just entitlement at its finest for the sake of “inclusivity”. Nevermind that it’s dangerous, that their behaviour is unacceptable or that it ruins everyone else’s work out. Staff couldn’t care less and are totally apathetic. When I let them know a kid dropped the bench bar in himself, they said “they’re just learning”. The staff are an absolute joke.
Expérience négative: I don't normally leave reviews but I've only been to this location twice in years and have had bad experiences both times. We brought our kids to swim Sunday evening, the shallow pool is closed for swim lessons. 1/2 slides is closed and the waves/surf area is closed to swim lessons as well. Price should be heavily discounted at least when 50% of the amenities are unavailable for use.
Expérience positive: I love this gym as a facility. That's where the love ends. As a self-employed person, I try to do my workouts in the daytime to avoid the after-work and evening crowds. Unfortunately, getting time on the weight machines is almost impossible during the day due to the agreement the Y has with the high school next door. When I attend this gym during the day, the machines are nearly all taken up by high-school students who enjoy sitting at them and poking at their phones when their set is done, if they're even doing one, or taking much longer between sets than is necessary. Many times I have had to just say to them "are you finished with this now?" And the kid will either get another set going or get off. Staff don't patrol the area to get them to move along, there are absolutely no teachers that seem to supervise the weight area with their classes (shouldn't they be?!) and Y staff doesn't seem to care in general. Staff is nearly invisible. I would suggest if you're going to offer membership to the general public AND act as gym period all day long for a series of high-school PE classes that you need twice the amount of weight machines than are available on the floor to make it fair for paying members to have a chance of getting access to the equipment.
Expérience positive: Customer service needs a lot of improvement in terms of showing empathy to members. Need to improve or facilitate more hours for children n parents who wanna spend time with their children in group activities especially like Badminton
Expérience fantastique: Christian & Adam P. Are both amazing!! They both helped me when I lost my AirPod. We’re helpful, kind, and considerate. Thankful to have my AirPod back!
Expérience fantastique: It’s a cool place. Good gym, good classes, swimming pool, staff. Everything is great. I just hope we had more yoga classes in the mornings.
Expérience négative: Parking in the SW lot says "visitor parking maximum 30 min" but it is always been full as of recent. No security nir parking enforcement in place so I always get to park there for 60min+ without incident and is soo much closer to doors. I recommend everyone and their dog park here- there's no consequences so don't worry! Even the spaces marked "Permit Required- Childcare Drop-off 15min Max" sees the same car parked here when I leave so they've been here longer than a "30min"uter (me). NO ENFORCEMENT. WHO CARES? Insult to injury- handicap spot is by someone who parked and RAN inside. What a comedy show
Expérience positive: While the facilities at Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton are some what generally clean and well-maintained (not always), I found the layout to be a bit confusing and the signage could be improved for better navigation. Additionally, during peak hours, it can get quite crowded, making it challenging to fully enjoy the amenities. It also tends to have a lack of staff. For the membership price I wouldn’t recommend.
Expérience négative: For $80 a month, you could at least have the the decency to have stable internet. I’m here to ride a bike, not to troubleshoot your terrible internet.
Expérience positive: I got a membership to swim in the pool, but this is not possible - half of the pool is closed for classes, and several swimming lines are occupied by children jumping into the water and their parents hanging at the edges of the line. disappointment. The pool management should organize separately children who simply jump into the water and do not swim
Expérience négative: If you’re buying a membership for the competition pool, forget it. There is always limited lane space, rarely will there be enough lanes. Always a swim-meet, competition, or high level of lane rentals. Its absolutely the worst. And the 50m lane hours are horrible.
Expérience fantastique: This place has all sports experiences for all ages. You name it, its available . Very spacious . Very very clean. Especially the changing rooms are very clean. There are lockers inside changing rooms as well as outside . Lockers available in different sizes. Swimming pool os clean and very large. Hot pool os great . The gymnasium has many new equipments ans very helpful staff. There is a cafeteria and a library too
Expérience négative: Management has explained they have no intentions of opening the dive tower to the public. The city paid alot of money so the public could use this and ymca is failing its members big time. They actually LIE to you when you ask of its availability and say yes it will be open and you arrive and it never is, leading to big disappointment. Don't waste your money here if you want to use the dive tower
Expérience négative: Was there January 23/04 in the pm! Not impressed with the staff in the gym area! I had a question about the bikes, I approached 2 staff members who were at the desk area. One of them seemed annoyed that I was asking a question. The other one told me that he didn’t even know why they got those bikes “sorry, can’t help you!” First of all he didn’t even know which bike I was talking about! How about show a little customer service and walk with me to the bike I was talking about? I paid for a day pass for my friend who is knowledgeable with fitness, she showed me! She also showed me how to work some of the equipment. She even commented on the fact that there was no staff on the floor! Reading on some of these reviews about the floor staff are true! Whoever is in charge, time to have a meeting with your staff! Your facility lost 4 stars because of the behaviour of this worker. Had he been willing to let me show him what bike it was, you would have gotten a 5 star rating. It’s the small things that count.
Expérience négative: They have 2 huge swimming pools but they only have 2 lanes open for public to use, the rest is all user for swimming classes, and the 2 lanes have 20 people in it. Hi somewhere else to swim...
Expérience négative: Poor facility maintenance. The universal shower rooms have broken shower heads and have screw ends sticking out. This is such a hazard when there are young kids in the change room. Washrooms and shower rooms often have hair and are dirty or smell like urine. I really don't know why they pay facility maintenance. The staff keeps on messing up my account. First time, they put on my children's name wrong. Second time, one was changed to an incorrect name and the other just marked invalid. This time they marked my whole account invalid. Swim lesson instructors have different standards. My child attends swim class twice a week and the life jacket is only required by one. The other instructor is always late for class and always talks to parents on personal things unrelated to swimming and waste swim time.
Expérience négative: The front desk/entrance staff are always very unfriendly. They continue to talk to each other and ignore those waiting in line and barely acknowledge you when you do go up there to give the price of a kidney to go into their mediocre establishment. The staff should go to the Okotoks Recereational complex to do some training on basic human interaction and kindness.
Expérience positive: Nice place. Only thing is the upstairs portion has nowhere to sit. Our sons class uses one of the rooms up there and my wife is 8mths pregnant. We would love to be able sit and watch him, but having to stand there for an hour is a bit hard for my wife. Other than that, its a great place to go.
Expérience négative: Generally, not very well run facility. Lots of issues with facility amentities being closed with no notice when paying drop-in admission. No mention of closures pruor to paying admission. Staff are not overly friendly or cooperative when issues voiced. Unfortunately, have had dissappinting/negative experiences almost every time we've gone. And quite honestly, it's not worth the drop-in rate for what you have access to (if you plan to just take your family swimming, like we did). I was considering buyung a membership some time ago, but with all experiences considered, I won't be purchasing. Much better facilities to go to for family swim.
Expérience fantastique: Great facility, clean equipment, well laid out. Only small negative is the lo action and access to the change rooms, good for the pool, less than good for the gym.
Expérience fantastique: Daughter did a sports program here and really like it. Staff was super friendly, place was always clean, play pool area always seemed pretty crowded and small, but we did not use that area.
Expérience négative: This is by far a bigger facility than the Remington YMCA which offers a lot more of variety. It offers a clean facility with a wide range of equipment. This facility has longer extended hours and is way closer to where I live. Unfortunately, that is where the pro's ends for me. I found consistently the staff here avoid work and are not approachable at all. I constantly see the front/gym staff play with their phones. I have observed gym staff talk about other gym goer's postures out loud; as it was not up to their standards. Instead of offering any type of assistance, they chose to mock and laugh amongst each other. It was truly distasteful. Young people frequent the facility more than older people which is unfortunate as they do not abide by the rules here. Unfortunately, the staff members here do not enforce anything. As mentioned, I enjoy the Remington YMCA. However, I like the later gym hours so I do go to both locations frequently. I very much dislike coming here though. For instance, while I was showering tonight a group of people within the same ethnicity were singing on the top of their lungs in their ethnic language. I am a visible minority myself but I do not enjoy this type of obnoxious behaviour I see everytime I come here. I observed a staff witness this tonight. And they chose not to do anything at all. Additionally, using the running track here is often times a nightmare. As mentioned, young people often times are not courteous here and do not look left or right before crossing the barrier. Thus, runners have to constantly slow down for those people crossing to avoid running into them. Runners get the right of way when they run... so it says on the signage. This does not get enforced whatsoever. I have had to slow down for the gym staff here as well in the past as they were not paying attention. Please do better Brookfield Residential YMCA. Some people very much have the expectation of getting quality service for what they pay for. And I feel this gets wasted by the low accountablity from the staff.
Expérience négative: I really like this YMCA but I accidentally left my water bottle on the weight floor that had all my stickers and found out that they throw water bottles when you leave it. This is so wasteful and needs to be addressed. I came back next day and disappointed to find out this information. Some of the programs here are government funded, and you would think they would be more environmentally conscious. This is not good. 2 stars because the pool is nice.
Expérience négative: Horrible experience with misinformation on punch cards. Was told I could use one I had bought for someone visiting since they didn't get to use it up in august, I arrive in December and they tell me I can't use it. Waste of money, they take and have unforgiving rules. YMCA is supposed to be accessible to all but no one on the staff was friendly or kind at this visit.
Expérience positive: Gym is good but whoever they put on aux in the gym needs to be removed immediately!! Every time I walk into the gym “what was I made for” by Billie Eilish is playing. Not that there is anything wrong with that song but it is not the vibe people want at the gym. It really affects the entire vibe correlated with the gym and it throws me off. I suggest putting whoever is on aux for the pool also on aux for the gym. The pool music is always 10/10
Expérience positive: The YMCA is an impressive facility overall—the structure is spectacular, and the staff is genuinely good. The gym equipment and swimming pool are well-maintained, contributing to a positive experience. However, one drawback I've noticed is the issue with teenagers monopolizing gym equipment for extended periods. It can be frustrating when you're eager to get your workout done, and the machines are occupied by individuals in their cellphones or chatting in groups. What's more concerning is the apparent lack of intervention from the staff. It would be greatly appreciated if they could enforce some time limits for them or gently remind to be mindful of others waiting. Small changes in this area would significantly enhance the overall experience for everyone. Despite these minor annoyances, the YMCA remains a top-notch facility with fantastic amenities, and I'll continue to be a member.
Expérience négative: Don’t go to this gym, if you’re a looking to workout, machines are always block for personal trainers, the stretching area is suuuper small, and there are not much strength machines, they have one leg press 45, one of each machine, always need to wait somebody to finish there set. I went to good life and Evolve and they are muuuch better!
Expérience fantastique: Large YMCA with a gym, hockey arena, and pool with two water slides: a regular one and a tube one. They have one side of the pools with the water slides, lazy river, surf simulator, spray park, and steam room. The other side is lane swim and deep swim with tall diving boards. We didn’t realize we had to sign a separate waiver for the surf simulation beforehand but otherwise it was pretty fun.
Expérience positive: Great for a YMCA. Lots to do here and a great set of pools and diving boards. There is enough gym equipment so you don't have to wait, even at the busiest times. Don't try and book the theater here. No one ever calls you back and it's a great exercise in frustration. Otherwise I would have given this Y a 5 star review.
Expérience négative: We just stood in line for 27 minutes to drop in, only 3 groups were checked in. 4 more groups in front of us would have easily taken another 30-40 minutes, so we just had to leave. Get it together people, that's honestly ridiculous and ANYBODY that worked there should have been letting people know what was going on.
Expérience négative: Used to be an awesome place and experience but the swimming has been ruined by so many classes. Half of it is closed throughout the week until 730ish, so kids cant really have too much fun. The dive area gets closed for a class of 10 kids. Now the weekends are full of classes. They basically shut down half the water park and cram in so many people into a lazy river that everyone is fighting and getting angry with each other because they are packed in like sardines. The hot tub (only 1 working) can be a 15 min wait and then they have swimming lanes, that are hardly being used on the other side going to waste. Why not utilize the space better and put the swimming lanes east to west? use the shallow part of the lane area for swimming lessons, freeing up the water park for paying families? I get they have to make money but its useless putting 95% of the people (most with little kids) in one area and having a whole side of the swimming arena used by like 5% of the swimmers .. insane. Some of the staff at the front and life guards act like god.. seriously. Too many people pointing this out.. train your staff better please. What a total embarrassment this place has become.
Expérience positive: Beautiful, new facility. Was a little off putting, as a first-timer, though. I looked through the website to try and get as much info quickly to make sure we would be prepared for a same day/ last-minute swim. Upon arrival, the staff all seemed friendly, but the markers for the lineups were clearly displayed... but then it seemed it didn't really matter which line up you went to. Because it was our first time, there was info needed for them to make a file for our family, and then waivers to sign. I didn't remember seeing the option online to have that filled out ahead of time. In the end, it was 2 min to fill out, but we waited for 10-15 min, behind others, who also were filling out forms or memberships. Once headed down to the changing areas, no where was it posted that you would need your own lock for a locker. There were no locks to rent or purchase unless that was available at the desk, and I missed it. But know to bring your own! We decided to risk our coats and shoes in a locker and took our bag onto the pool deck. No issues with personal property being on deck, it seemed, other than I was constantly eyeing my bag to make sure nothing was taken or that it wasn't in a "splash zone." We were definitely disappointed to find that the 2 swim pools were closed due to swim lessons, and so there were approx 100 people all floating in the lazy river or sitting in the hot tub. It made it very claustrophobic feeling. We didn't even attempt to get into the overflowing of people hot tub. My kids were too big for the play structure part, and too nervous to try out the water slides. So we floated the lazy river for 1.5 hrs. It did get old quickly, and we were all bored and tired of being bumped into. It is a neat area, but when they close those 2 pools off, it makes the small area, that much smaller. The change rooms had lots of lockers, and washroom and shower stalls. They don't seem to clean the floors much in the shower stalls, as there was disturbing amounts of hair and messes on the floors in the vacant ones we looked into. The shower was warm, good pressure and good water. I felt clean and not super dry skin after. We will come again, and hopefully have a better experience, as I will look at the whole schedule before planning the visit. I can't review anywhere else in the facility, other than glances around and through windows. The whole building looks lovely. The hallways and lobby area seemed clean and well kept up, especially for a winter day. I liked that you don't need to pay for parking if you are there for 2.5 hours or less. Tons of parking. Easy to find, and get around in the lots.
Expérience négative: EDIT 3- Worried about a mom with a backpack while a person with a knife is wandering your facility...Good job guys! EDIT 2- Evolve allows backpacks on the floor they actually have a special place for them because members there aren’t actual thieves. EDIT 1 Went to Evolve today the staff was amazing had the best workout Ive had in years. Cancelled my membership. Today was the final straw. There is truly nothing good about this place. We have been working out at this gym for over two years, and we have consistently been treated poorly by the staff. Overcrowding is a frequent problem at the gym, machines are inoperable, and the staff is unprofessional. Earlier today, I was asked to leave because I refused to place my backpack containing my daughter's life saving medication in the locker. My backpack was permitted to remain with me after I spoke to staff about this issue previously. I was rudely directed by a staff member today to put my backpack in my locker. When I refused, she immediately stated that I was going to contact the supervisor and left, yelling on her walkie talkie there was a code 3, apparently an emergency (not going to lie that made me laugh). The DM who did not introduce herself said the same thing in an equally rude manner. In spite of my efforts, I was not able to explain my daughter's medication to her. After explaining that my wallet had been stolen, I did not feel comfortable leaving it in the locker. The brilliant advice she gave was to purchase a thicker lock. This is the theft prevention advice, not hey, we've been monitoring thefts, no need to worry, but just get a thicker lock. It is hard for me to believe that the YMCA has such a standard of behavior for its employees, as her snide remarks were incredibly unprofessional. I then asked about the man who was walking around the gym in full fake military gear with a backpack that I told staff about that nothing was done. No code 3 just meh we can't really say anything to him. So you can harass me with a backpack full of my daughters medication because I’m easier to be disrespectful too but the large man in full fake commando gear and a huge backpack not so much. Ok I get it. We actually left because he was so creepy. How about the man I complained about harassing and saying loudly he was going to shove my daughter because she was near the weight rack. Did that get a code 3? Nope he wasn’t asked to leave why? Because he's a male member and not so easy to bully. Why was he allowed to stay? Why was my daughter not given the same respect? Why was he not held accountable for his behavior? Why are male members given more respect than female members? Why are women treated unequally? I also sent a letter to the manager and got zero response but from reading the reviews I can see the management is just as inept as the staff. So my backpack is a safety issue but not the 6 pre teen girls that were running around slamming weights and taking pictures no code 3 there or the two little boys with 2 plates on either side in the squat rack trying to walk out with that and bailing and a weight rolled off and almost hit someone. Again no code 3. Has anyone seen an actual worker doing anything but sitting at the desk staring into space? It’s pretty clear that they have zero interest in helping anyone. This is on top of multitudes of incredibly rude interactions with staff at this location. The front desk staff are incredibly discourteous and honestly our family has a bet to see if someone says there is a problem with our card because it happens all the time. If you scroll through the reviews almost all of them mention how rude the staff are and how unsafe the lockers rooms are. This is a major red flag and needs to be addressed immediately. This location needs to be put under the microscope and the employees need to be held accountable for their actions. We are looking for another gym. I can't see it getting any better anytime soon. We have the largest YMCA yet and it's full of unfriendly staff members, unsafe locker rooms and broken gym equipment.
Expérience négative: The place is filthy, only one of the hot tubs are working. Witch is in the kids zone. They are playing music about F hose and drugs. Asked the lifeguard to change it to something family friendly and there response was “well see.” With sandals, blocking the entrance to the pool trip hazard, I would not recommend using the water park hot tub or even the lane swim.
Expérience fantastique: I recently swam at this beautiful facility and it was amazing. The staff were so helpful educating me on the programs and registration process. I was given a one week free pass and then two additional day passes to cover the gap for my 65th birthday in a few days. I'll be joining as a full 'senior' member on my birthday. I look forward to signing up for the deep water exercise program. The swimming lanes and competition hot pool are fantastic!!!!
Expérience négative: I work with Eric’s House, a day program for adults with disabilities. We have been swimming at YMCA for years and today had huge issues getting in the seton location. The YMCA has been charging us the same rate since forever. We had to do two van trips as our bus was experiencing technical difficulties last minute. The staff working were reluctant to let us pay our usual amount, but agreed as long as we all went in together. While we waited for the second group I asked if I could pay twice and have the first group go the staff decided we could no longer could pay the amount showing in our history that we always had paid and instead said the clients would have to pay individually. As well as produce ID. I explained this wasn’t the way we have done it and therefore I didn’t have the clients ID’s, only staffs ID’s on hand as always. They stated I had to wait for a manager. The staff came back and stated they had spoken with the manager and that they would no longer let us pay like we had and wanted to do it individually. I explained this was odd since it had always been a certain way. Also that I only had the staffs id’s and not the clients. My manager spoke to the staff as she did not understand why this was changing. The staff got off the phone with my manager and stated that she was very rude and he would be putting a note on our file about this. The staff stated we could go with no id’s for the clients, but we had to make profiles with their names and birthdates, for all 16 clients. The staff I had been dealing with stated to another staff he did not want to be “involved with this” anymore regarding making the profiles with me. The staff working were discussing what was happening, what our manager said, and were laughing at us in the background, speaking about my manager, and stating things like “rude”. We decided at this point it was so late and our clients were getting picked up at certain times, so it would be better to just leave. Our clients were already very frustrated, sitting on the bench for the whole time, and thought they were going to go swimming. The manager came out to talk to us as we were leaving, but I honestly had no interest at this point. Hard day for our group. It was never stated that the way we pay or do things would change and so we had no time to prepare. Felt very uninclusive as they could see our clients in front of them struggling with what was happening and they were just giving us roadblock after roadblock.

Expérience fantastique: Great friendly staff, nice gym and Waterpark. Also, lots of great kid programs. It's definitely worth it to get the membership too, you save alot on the programs.
Expérience positive: Incredible facilities. We went for swimming, for which the building is plentiful with amenities however, there’s a large gap in the target audience between roughly 8 years old and 20 years old. The younger kids have some space in some warm pools and fun waterslides. For adults, there is a competition sized lap pool, and a competition dive pool with a 1m/3m spring and 3/5/7/10m platforms.
Expérience négative: The pools are always at capacity. It’s not worth buying a membership if this place is not accessible due to a lot of people in the pool and people have to line up for hours just to get in the pool. The biggest ymca? And yet it has a small pool for public? It’s unfortunate that it can’t cater to all residents that live in the area. Also, the swimming lessons for kids are fully booked all the time.
Expérience négative: Experienced terrible customer service today. My children were attempting to enter a place, but an elderly person at the entrance denied them entry because they didn't have an ID. She was requesting a driver's license, but they're only 13 years old and don't have one. We believe in treating everyone with respect, especially young kids who represent our future. If we don't treat them well now, how can we expect them to grow up with the same values? It's essential to be respectful and kind when working in public-facing roles, or else one should consider a job more suited to their personality.
Expérience négative: Not impressive at all! A person would walk in and love what they see. A Good Earth to the right promises caffeine while you wait in line, a large library just past that promising more dreams to be discovered. The bird's nest dropping from the ceiling above you while the cranes fly towards it. It looks so magical. Then you get to the counter to pay for your way in. It's $18.50 and it takes at least 10 minutes to get you in. They have to know everything about you and not just what you want to go do there. It's a recreation center, not a police department! So after finally getting in, I go to the locker rooms, and discover that the lockers are not secure. You have to provide your own lock. You can get one there but you have to spend and extra $20 for it. You end up taking your valuables with you to the pool. Their waterpark seems okay. Sadly, the waterslides were apparently closed and you had to wait for a hour before a person can get to enjoy them. But that's okay because that flowrider is calling your name. It is an indoor surf-pool that you get to ride on and it is not a gentle ride either. Quite frankly, it kicks you around like an old hacky sack. It really is thrilling and fun. Worth the thirty minute wait. That is the first star. However, you have to sign a waiver that isn't there and was not mentioned to you when you paid the fee. However, one saving grace is this wonderful lifeguard named Ella who actually helped you fill one out on your phone and still watches you valuables for you while to try this place out. She is the only reason why this place is getting a second star. The rest is not good. When questions were asked to other lifeguards and they did not know the answers to anything. Not so great! The lazy pool was clearly made by lazy people. It looks so small and uninspired. All you do is walk in a flowing circle. The hot tubs were tepid at best. You can feel yourself shivering still. The sauna was alright but the air feels the same as the pool, choleric and not altogether pleasant. Lastly, everything was closed. Diving boards, waterslides (that did not open an hour later), and who knows what else were not open. There needs to be some serious changes and not just to these odd schedules but the customer service is atrocious. Customers are not made aware of any waivers, the staff does not know what is going on with their equipment or environment, and on top of that, not too many people were that friendly or approachable. Please do better with this and take a few notes from Ella who was actually the one helpful person. For $18.50 you can make this a place where everyone feels welcome, has fun, and everything is in working order. Some of us have spent less money to go into a pool/waterpark and have had some great times. Please do better!
Expérience négative: Surrounded by low income housing. Constant thefts of personal property every week. Has that real N.E. Calgary feel to it. Garbage all over the property. At least to bathrooms do not smell like fecal matter like the Gyms in N.E. Calgary from people jamming their fecal matter down the drain in the showers. A step above.
Expérience positive: My only issue with this facility is that they never answer their phones. It doesn't matter what time of day it is. If you have questions, you may as well go in and ask. My son plays lots of hockey here, the kids enjoy the pool, and the work out area is wonderful.
Expérience négative: My review is about service and staff. Wonderful complex! But the people who work there are unprofessional with boorish behavior and are disrespectful. There were a sufficient number of precedents, but the last one brought me to the point that I decided to leave my review. I have a two month old baby whom I leave in their daycare. Certainly, I use a stroller to bring him and I carry a bag with his things and a bag for the gym. When I asked where I can leave the stroller, I was told that they have a stroller parking in the hallway and it is my responsibility if it disappears this is my problem. Since my eldest son’s sneakers were stolen while he was in training. This gives complete confidence that the stroller will be gone with no time in the same way. I asked if there are any other options, no one thought to solve this problem. When I asked all the staff if they would leave their stroller, not one person said yes. Why offer people something that you would never do! Since then, I have been carrying a car seat and two bags in my hands, and no one cares that a person who cannot speak and walk has no right to use this facility, since a safe place for his transportation is not equipped for him. This is pure discrimination against a person by age!!!
Expérience fantastique: The wave rider is a thrill. My son tried it the first time a few days ago and after his initial hesitation he could not get enough of it. The water slides area lot of fun.
Expérience négative: I like the facility and my toddler enjoys the kid’s area, especially the slide part. I like both hot tubs as well. What I don’t like is the safeguard stuff. There were a few times when I asked some simple questions about equipment or swimming lessons, they look annoyed and sometimes just didn’t bother to reply. And they have been quite rude with kids as well. Most of them looks like high school students or freshmen and from what I see they do not seem committed to the job. I think that’s a bad idea to hire teenagers when safety concerns (water) are in place.
Expérience fantastique: YMCA at Seton is a very nice place and is also, if I am not mistaken, the biggest YMCA in the world. I go here very often to swim, or use the gym, in which this location is perfect for. The gym includes a massive variety of equipment, all of them are high quality. The pool is fantastic and includes many different pools for all ages, and pack loads of fun.
Expérience négative: The life guards and some of the gym floor members always have a attitude and talk to the kids in a disrespectful manner. As a parent, I have seen my kids being talked to in a somewhat aggressive and stubborn manner. Some ladies at the gym floor booth yell out “don’t use the elevator” to me but I cannot use the stairs as I have torn a muscle in my lower back. Please teach your pool and gym staff on basic respect towards paying members. Front desk staff was very helpful and kind.
Expérience fantastique: Huge shoutout to Jacqueline at the reception area. I had to enrol my son for the grade 6 YMCA program and the process was super quick and smooth. Jacqueline’s excellent customer service skills are highly commendable. She has great communication skills, she’s kind and clearly explained everything to me in a systematic manner. Her name plate says she’s “On Training” but she’s an absolute gem at the YMCA Brookefield location with her superb people skills. Great work, Jacqueline!
Expérience négative: Overpriced, over chlorinated, and understaffed, with staff who are rude/don't care. Way better pools/gyms in this city, that are far more reasonably priced, and have atleast SOME degree of customer service. Don't waste your time, or money at this place, lord knows they won't be getting another cent from me.
Expérience négative: Although this facility has lots to offer, I will just stick going to Remington. First, parking is absolutely insane. It will take you forever to get a parking spot. Then here comes the very unprofessional staff that works there. I'm sure not everyone, but this boy whom I had to ask assistance from was completely rude and condescending! I needed to use a hairdryer but all outlets weren't working so I told this boy about it, he said "I don't know what to tell you and I can't help you." Really??? That's how you were trained to talk to people? I wish I got his name but I was left dumbfounded as he said that to me. All I can say is he's really young and it looks like he hated being there. That's what happens when you hire young people who have zero customer service knowledge. I am never going back to this place!
Expérience positive: Nice pool, clean area, nice staff and tons of open equipment at the gym. Come here every day for several hours. One major disappointment is how often major sections of the pool are closed off during every season besides summer. If you live down south, amazing place. If you live up north, dint bother the drive, just go to rocky ridge. Also try not to get herpes from the locker room floors
Expérience positive: Super crowded at all times. There are no other places with pool nearby so 5 neighborhoods come to this YMCA which makes it disgusting. The washrooms are also in need of a good deep cleaning. Had to cancel my membership because of the crowd 24/7
Expérience fantastique: These facilities are really beautiful. Coming from Saskatchewan and not having facilities like this, we were all very impressed. We came for a national water polo tournament and thought that the event hosted was excellent and went very smoothly. The impressive part, besides the facilities was that it was not the only event going on at the time. There was soccer. There was ringette. There is a library there. There is a water park there. And with all that, there was also a provincial election going on. There was also a lot of ample free parking. The area is also very clean with lots of retail shops close by.
Expérience négative: The facilities are amazing.. but they require so much personal information and waivers to be signed... 2 waivers per person. And ID for all adults. It felt very invasive just to take my family swimming.
Expérience négative: Rampant theft, grumpy staff with atrocious bedside manner. The lanes and competition hot tub are never open and the steam room isn't even steamy. Don't bother, we've spent years giving this place second chances but have decided to move to remmington after witnessing a lifeguard have a melt down over an instructor on the pool deck then proceeding to scream at us for laughing at the dramatics.
Expérience négative: This location in not worth their membership fees. All swim lanes are always booked for group lessons. The capacity screen never does not reflect these bookings and you cannot get into the pool. Overcrowded. Absolutely terrible client services, slow, never enough staff.
Expérience fantastique: This place is awesome to go for sports, fitness or swimming. I love the wave pool and hot pool here. If you’re going with a member then you can drop in by spending $11 something to enjoy the amenities. Well built and managed place.
Expérience négative: Used to enjoy going here . Never had issues until they put a plastic badge on one of the employees in the gym . He laid hands on my child and told him his foot wear was not appropriate . No problem we were leaving and he proceeded to follow behind me stepping on my heels twice . Twice I told him to keep his distance , he stepped on me heel again and I told him I would be cancelling my membership . He said good “ you people don’t belong here “….I was stunned I asked another team member who his supervisor was and he proceeded to tell me that his co worker would never do that . The coworker interrupted and I told him I was done talking to him . He said “ get the f out “ … I immediately left the gym with my kids and lodged my complaint while waiting an hour for a supervisor . The supervisor took my statement and said to come back the following day . I followed instruction and spoke with another supervisor that gave me the same song and dance about someone getting in touch with me . 10 business days later and nobody has reached out . Unacceptable on all aspects . Read me your customer values and mission statement YMCA . I experienced none of this .
