Village Square Leisure Centre: Avis
Expérience positive: Good, but I called ahead of time and asked if anything was closed they said no, I arrived and the kids play area and the pool with the other water slide and diving board were closed for repairs. They should be notifying everyone on the phone or front desk if anything is closed down.
Expérience fantastique: Swimming here is fun with my son ❤️ plus this beautiful painting I just had to share
Expérience fantastique: Lots of a fun on cold day. Dive tank, water slides, wave pool.
Expérience fantastique: Awesome pool activities and slides!
Expérience positive: Great place for swimming and low income bus pass buying.. and library but doesn't have much else to do
Expérience fantastique: Very nice slides. Always a positive mood!
Expérience fantastique: Amazing place I grew up here. Sadly they got rid of the ball you can swing on
Expérience fantastique: We this location for my son’s vaccine . It was incredible experience all nurses and front desk staff are very cheerful polite and helpfull
Expérience positive: Half the place was closed down, I would’ve appreciated a discount since all the great areas of the pool (especially for young kids) were closed
Expérience fantastique: Little busy during weekends , library, alberta fair sevices, bus passes etc
Expérience positive: Just there for my bus pass, but it is a nice place to visit
Expérience négative: The pool is absolutely NASTY. Never going there ever again, the place smelt increadibly bad. As soon as I put my feet in I got out, I even found a spat out gum on the floor. Horrible, never ever again.
Expérience positive: Unfortunately this mall needs a major tenant. I feel so sorry for the general store. They are wonderful people and the mall isn’t busy enough to support them. BEST barbershop in the area.
Expérience fantastique: Great library, very welcoming!
Expérience fantastique: Great facilities: swimming, libraries etc. You can also get good discounts depending on your income.
Expérience fantastique: A large center, a lot of interesting locations, clean, beautiful and pleasant atmosphere, all entertainment is interesting, affordable and beneficial to people.
Expérience positive: I went when the dive tank and srafia splash were closed wait time was 10-15 minutes for the thunder water slide most of the place was fun
Expérience négative: This place is run down Calgary need to build a proper wave pool with waterslides and an indoor beach like they have on china we suck
Expérience négative: Not sure what has happened to this place but looks like it's under construction
Expérience fantastique: I visited for fair entry program. The experience was very great. Transit pass or ticket facility available here. Lots of services available here
Expérience positive: Used to be a lot more clean and maintained than it is now, looking extremely dirty and smells like mildew.
Expérience négative: absolutely incomprehensible and terrible schedule of the pool, it is constantly closed
Expérience positive: It's very nice to play there but the courts are really dusty(they need to sweep it more)
Expérience négative: the pool was closed when we got their but it says on Google that it is open so it was a big waste of gas.
Expérience fantastique: Very good please for indoor swimming with lots of slides and various pools myself and my kids love this place
Expérience fantastique: This place is useful for newcomers in Calgary. I am going every month for purchase my Calgary Transit pass.
Expérience fantastique: My favorite pool, gym with good music usually and it's very nostalgic and relaxing!
Expérience fantastique: I've been taking my kids here for years. They're now teens and still love the Thunder Slide.
Expérience positive: Just went to the Public Library and found a few books and authors that I had never heard of before.
Expérience positive: I love this place and have a lot of fun with my children. I'm not a fan of swimming or pool, but the water here is clean and the temperature is not cold. So I can enjoy it. It also has artificial waves, totally recommended
Expérience négative: Disappointing! I know we have water restrictions on, but the website said they were open, and I'm in a lot of pain, so I wanted to sit in the hot tub. I tried phoning, and they don't answer. The message says to go to the website scroll here. Click that. Swipe this way, etc. When I'm driving, that isn't an option, and there are plenty of people who don't have access to the internet. They should actually answer the phone or tell you via the answering service what is open and what isn't. In my pain, I walked all the way up to the door only to fund a sign that says the hot tub is closed. If the pool can be open, why not the hot tub?
Expérience positive: Good aquatic centre, had 2 big slides & kids area with slides, etc. Wave pool & hot tub (which was very crowded & every was controlled). I felt it was a bit overpriced for the size but kept my kid entertained for almost 2hrs.
Expérience négative: Dirty and pool murky also high chlorine smell and the slide is not great
Expérience fantastique: Place is nice. Not to small and not too crowded. There’s a lot of lifeguard which is very good so mom can enjoy the place too. But last time they colse 1 of the pool that makes the bigger pool bit pack.
Expérience positive: Although it is very nice the thunder slide is very slow and some of the slides r always closed
Expérience fantastique: Beautiful place, great nice staff. Thanks for making my son's birthday so special!!! I recommend this place to everyone
Expérience négative: The lifeguards don't care about safety. Too crowded, rude and inconsiderate people.
Expérience négative: Had company from out of town and decided to take the kids to the pool. My daughter rented 3 tubes for the kids and the lifeguard called my grandson over and took his tube because his mom had the white wrist band and said in a very rude manner she has to come and show him but mean while he watch us with these tubes for over a hour. He was so rude to us and walked away like he was the king there. I went to another guard and she said that they don't have to give their names to make a complaint with 311 and walked away from us while we were still talking to her. So I'm not stopping here cause there was no need for it. We were treated like crap there and to have my company feel like they did something wrong is not exceptable to me by far. I will take this further to get my point across. We left the pool right after that cause we felt like crap with everyone looking at us like we committed a crime. Not acceptable in my books. One of the worst experiences I ever had here in calgary.
Expérience positive: Inside the pool area it is really nice but the library has changed a lot. They put fair entry there and now there is too much people and the noise is high. The outside is uncared for and needs a makeover. The small mall has become depressing to go through. I haven't been there in a whole and was shocked.
Expérience fantastique: Always a hit with my kids! Love this place since it has a big nice wave pool , a hot tub and then a separate pool for infants and toddlers. A splash zone which is a lot of fun alongwith slides to enjoy. Definitely recommend it.
Expérience positive: We decided to take 8 kids between the ages of 6 and 12 to the wave pool. The family rate was decent. We haven't been for years, and I can remember thinking that Village Square had a lot of painted concrete, which it still does. For kid fun, I would rate it 5 stars. They didn't care how gross the change rooms were, how cold the showers, how slimy everything felt, how run down and rusted everything is, how insanely strong the chorine was (burning my eyeballs and any body orifice...no, they didn't notice, they all had a blast!! The slides were fun, and overall, I was glad to see my kids grinning from ear to ear the entire time! The slide attendant didn't seem to notice kids constantly budging with friends at the front of line, which was incredibly annoying. We left at closing so I could understand the change rooms would likely be at their worst, but I was scared to stand in there. Blobs of hair everywhere, garbage strewn around. In desperate need of a face lift.
Expérience négative: Businesses must update their site information when they are open and closed. The sites said they were open, and my son and I drove across town because it said it was open, only to find them closed. For a 6 year old, this is very disappointing.
Expérience positive: Attracts a somewhat interesting crowd, I really wish mothers wouldn't change their children in/out of bathing suits in the open lobby. There are changing rooms for that reason, nobody wants to see your naked child (and you should also unfortunately be mindful of those who MIGHT.) right in direct view of the (glass) front doors. We came for the pool, it was sort of funny watching the lifeguards scold a bunch of people constantly, but I also felt kinda bad for them. And the stairs for the big water slide are not worth the ride you get. The lifeguards don't seem to fully wait for you to get far enough in the slide before sending the next person. I'm lucky the person that almost took my ankles out while getting out at the bottom was my best friend.
Expérience fantastique: Very serene neighbourhood and nice front desk. Such a cozy environment.
Expérience fantastique: The team members are amazing I like their kind cooperation in my visit
Expérience négative: Gross, confusing, the smell of chlorine is insane, random line ups for stuff everywhere and parking was stupid. Won't be back unless I have to
Expérience fantastique: Nice place to spend time with kids. We also have a great experience of celebrating a birthday. Thank you!
Expérience fantastique: Awesome leisure center with cool indoor splash park, pool and water slides
Expérience fantastique: Amazing leisure facilities with everything under one roof
Expérience positive: You need a loonie to lock your belongings in the lockers! Hats off to the on duty life guards they are on the ball 10/10 for them. Safety jackets are provided for free and a life guard came over and helped me with the right size n fitting. Another 10/10. Buy your tickets online if you don't want to wait in the longer line. Pool is showing it's age but i assure you it's a lot of fun non the less. Overall a great experience!
Expérience fantastique: How could you not appreciate the fun to be had at a place like this?!
Expérience négative: We had called earlier in the day and asked if the centre was open, and we were told it was open until 5. We drove 40 minutes, just to find that everything was closed. Me and multiple other people were walking around, trying to find an open entrance, but every door was closed. I tried calling, but nobody picked up the phone. Not sure why we were told it was open when it’s not. Waste of time.
Expérience positive: Good place water is a little chilly and hot tub line is huge
Expérience négative: Really bad at telling people when your closed eh maybe do something about that because it's Annoying to get ready and drive 30 minutes for it to be closed and it wasn't just me there were multiple groups and families coming up to the building that's advertised open just to find out all the lights are off and nobody in site
Expérience positive: It’s a good water slide park. It was so busy when we went.
Expérience fantastique: Its a good place to relax with family, good slides and fun activities for kids, lockers are available and safety guards are always present
Expérience positive: Didn't know they closed at 4 on Tues and Thursday so getting there at 2:30 wasn't good. Slides were closed. Changing rooms very clean. Staff helpful.
Expérience positive: Fun to play for my kids. Not very clean but ok
Expérience positive: Great centre with water splash park complete with water slides and wave pool. Super fun for all ages but super busy during this summers heat wave. There are basketball and badminton courts, jungle gym and registered yoga or martial arts classes at an additional charge. Weight room remains open after the wave pool closes. Check the website for hours of operations. Ladies change rooms was horrendous! On multiple days, there were food wrappers and dirt all over the floor. The bathrooms smelled of urination right on the floor and around the stalls plus nasty smell. I don’t recommend going late. Come early and it’s clean. A staff member cleaned it up after someone brought it to their attention. Parking was packed and stalls were tight. Don’t park here or your car will be scratched or dented. Bring a dollar or loony for the lockers. Returnable after use. Only a handful of lockable lockers with your own lock and it’s only in the Family change room. Update…The staff and weight room were nice and clean. Updated pics of Ladies change room at closing so come early.
Expérience positive: Always an enjoyable time, except dive tank is closed until further notice, which causes everyone to jump over people at the deep end. Bandaids floating in the pool was also a big turn off they also no longer have a "family" change room, it is now universal (which I can understand to some degree with a transgender sibling). But there is no where for myself to go in with my special needs older kiddo that doesn't feel a tad bit... secluded? The family change room used to use a keypad for entry. Now it's just like any other change room and way over full. Don't know if we will be back to VSLC, which saddens me as I grew up at this pool....
Expérience négative: Yesterday was my first time going to this leisure place with my family and I have never encountered the level of rudeness and lack of professionalism in my life. They cleared us out of the pool yelling and rushing us while we gathering the kids out of the pool. They didn’t even give us a warranting ahead of time. Management needs to look into who they are hiring and focus on educating them customer service skills. No kids deserve to be yelled at!
Expérience fantastique: Their wave pool is large and spacious, there splash park is fun, and there library is a great place to get books from and convent for Pearson students.
Expérience positive: Warm water, and a fun play structure for the little ones. The things to complain about is the amount of people that are there. We had to wait 30 minutes to get in because they were at max capacity. You are basically shoulder to shoulder with people. The floors in the change rooms are absolutely disgusting. They need to clean way more often than they do. Other than that everything else was awesome!
Expérience fantastique: Nice place. There’s nearby library, mcdonalds, tim hortons.
Expérience négative: Experience for the first time in my life the level of rudeness of staff, no professionalism , seems like illiterates get hired of the streets , customer service guy treated us very inappropriately literally yelled at us. So far one of the worse rec centre in calgary in regard’s to cleanliness , its gross . None of the staff know what they are doing , we wasted 15 plus min to just get to the right class but we see too many employee wandering around doing nothing .
Expérience positive: We went there many times and it’s always fun, my kids enjoys, helpful staff, great big pools, big variety slides, big dressing rooms, lots of showers..just hot water issues, and sometimes saw bandaids floating in water pools. Steam room, warm pool and $1 coin lockers are useful. We like the library, books, etc..friendly environment, there is Fair Entry Calgary transpo service desk for people it’s excellent.
Expérience négative: Never enough parking spots, not convenient for parents to watch games.
Expérience fantastique: No worries about line up it passes fast great service
Expérience fantastique: A good place for playing different types of sports.I go sometimes in this place its club is so good and have a different type of machines.
Expérience fantastique: Visited the health centre for vaccine for my kid. Helpful and supportive staff. Good experience
Expérience fantastique: So many activites to do here. Swimming classes, gym, library, playarea.i think its a good to go place
Expérience positive: Could of been 5 star how the ticket staff could of been much more friendly and not hate there job so much. And the steam room says fits 20 ppl however there was 10 11 people in there and it was feeling like sardines however the heat was amazing The rest of the pool was amazing I've been there as a child and I now as an adult 30 flights of stairs to get up the thunder slide it's like rough when you're older but it was still amazing
Expérience fantastique: Ambiance is very nice ! Very good for new comers . There is library , food joint, indoor water activities and gym! Besides other necessary services. Would highly recommend for new comers .
Expérience fantastique: The Village Square Library is a gem in Calgary's northeast. It offers a welcoming atmosphere, helpful staff, and a wide selection of books and resources. The children's section is particularly impressive, with engaging activities and storytimes for kids. A fantastic community resource. For new comers in Alberta they provide fair entry pass, recreational pass.
Expérience fantastique: visited many times, more than 15 times. The whole family is delighted. good water slides, large changing rooms, good comfortable swimming pools, good life jackets for children, lifeguards on every corner keeping order. Thank you!
Expérience négative: This place is gross. Way too packed, not clean. Not like the place we grew up with. They’ve made changes and not for the better. It’s so small now, no hot water in showers. Would no recommend. The city of Calgary needs to more facilities for the size of this city. Everything is getting run down. But would recommend southland leisure centre over this place.
Expérience fantastique: Excellent place to workout. Close to all major amenities and grocery shops. Can get a bit congested at times but, overall, a great place to exercise.
Expérience fantastique: This place is awesome! They have a gym, a pool and a cafeteria! I go here with a bunch of my friends to go swimming and have a blast! Definitely would recommend.
Expérience positive: I drove all the way from the south to get my bus pass here it was nice to get there and only have three people and line up compared to city Hall where there was probably over 300 people in the lineup not exaggerating
Expérience fantastique: I love it there I always take my toddler to the library and activities they have. But I think they should make the kids pool more cleaner.
Expérience fantastique: The Village Square Leisure Centre pool is a refreshing oasis in the heart of our community. Whether you're looking to swim laps for exercise, splash around with the family, or simply beat the heat, this pool has you covered. With its clean facilities and friendly staff, it's the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy some aquatic fun. Plus, the variety of amenities and programs cater to swimmers of all ages and skill levels. Dive in and experience the joy of the Village Square pool!
Expérience fantastique: This place has everything a regular community member can ask for. There's a pool, a library, and to buy monthly pass with the city of Calgary branch. That's awesome! Thank you!
Expérience positive: Gym staff very helpful and exercise class coaches (total body workout, cardio kickboxing and zumba) are the best. Pool and shower staff are careless and rude. They are not careful to splash you water and soap when they start cleaning. Facilities are ok except for the scalding shower. May 28, 2024 update: Since I last posted, things have improved. Pool staff and shower water temperature are now better. Can't help to think the centre reviews Google Reviews and act on them.
Expérience fantastique: Nothing like this in Winnipeg, we brought the kids and this is the normal for Calgary citizens, my children will have memories forever of this place and I'm forever grateful
Expérience positive: Its a good place operated by Calgary transit & library. They screen the your documents and let you know if you can avail benefits in regards to Calgary transit. Its a busy place one should have 3-4 hours to complete the whole process. They can be a little more organized.
Expérience fantastique: Pretty nice pool, but I would say only for kids. Big changing rooms, with 1 dollar token, very nice. Lots of showers and big area for changing clothes. You can get some snacks there as well!
Expérience positive: This is a popular place, so it's best to visit during weekdays. We visited on a Thursday afternoon. It's not that visit. We went swimming, then we also went to check their library after.
Expérience positive: It's kind of cool. I like the architecture, and that the lockers give you your dollar back. The water park looks fun. However, there's no lane swimming when little kids have lessons. I'd really like to have a swim while jr learns
Expérience positive: The kids loved it, normally we go to the Southland leisure center but this was a different change face, it was a great facility, that being said, the steam room was really disappointing, quite small and overcrowded compared to other locations.
Expérience positive: Great pool nice and clean The water is warm. It ies suck that the aqua fit class starts at 1pm bit they don't open the change room unit 1 pm. And the stop the class at 1:50. So really the class is only 40 min
Expérience fantastique: As someone on a fixed low income, I found their Fare Entry services second to none! No six hour line up's like City Hall to renew annually. Over the top kindness by staff. I will make the trek to this out of the way facility each and every time because of their professional and polite courtesy. Really nice to be treated so kindly, thank you!
Expérience positive: The pool looked great from the window! Tried to go for my son's first birthday. We waited for over 2 hours to get in because they were at capacity. When we arrived, we were the ONLY ones there. Then, people with passes started to come. That's the "express" line, as in it does not matter how long us "regular" patrons were there, they automatically got in first no matter what. After watching about 7 groups of pass holders be able to enter the pool while we stood there waiting with babies, we left. Heard this pool was good, it's definitely popular! Maybe one day we'll get the opportunity to try it.
Expérience positive: Haven't visited the pool since I was a kid and now I'm bringing my kids! Still as fun as I remember. There is something for every age except lap swimming. Unfortunately they had a lack of life guards at the pool which made them restrict the number of people in the pool. We waited an hour before being allowed to go in. Other dry facilities like the weight room and gymnasium had no issues getting in. They let you skip the line if you were not using the pool.
Expérience positive: It’s the best place for children but little bit too busy on the weekends
Expérience négative: Usually we have s decent time here, this time there was a group of teens terrorizing the pool, had multiple run ins and talking to by life guards (I witnessed 5) and still they continued without being made to leave, they spiked the communal balls out of the pool and one into the rafters, so no more balls for anyone to use, they snuck several of them into the hot tub while there was a huge line, the monitor caught them, but then joked with them and let them stay and I had to pull one of them off my son when they were goofing off as they landed on him in the water and had his head under water, just no regard for others and the pool did nothing to safe guard other guests, the play jungle area was also closed down with no notice for the entire day, and then half an hr before closing they opened it up inexplicably.
Expérience négative: I have been in pools. It is an old public bath non-private changing rooms. The floor is dirty there because the changing room has no separate come-in part with the shower part. It was a shock (and no changing cabins, it is in an open space which is very very archaic) to be honest. Personnel at the desk is friendly, but stuff (lifeguards) at the end of the day in the changing room weren't nice. They've been rude, actually - strongly leting you know you are not more welcome today, just pack your stuff asap and get out.
Expérience négative: We took our 3 kids to the swimming pool and were beyond excited to have traveled just for this particular pool. Well the spray park part was closed the entire time because of chlorine issues, the 1 water slide was closed which meant all we had to do was the open pool and water slide. The pool is very outdated and in needing of so, so many repairs! We drive 3 hours for this pool. We left and went to our hotel pool.
Expérience fantastique: Amazing facility very well organized. Lots of programs for everyone you need also lots of specialized programs for people with all sorts of disabilities. Also if you're interested there is a Calgary Transit operation in there for us and what not
Expérience négative: "It wasn't that good" I've been there a couple times and it's been the same thing each time... they only have one slide open, half the amenities and swim areas are closed kids area was non-operational, swimming and pool rules are a bit extreme can't really do much without having a whistle blowing at you every 10 minutes actually was annoying... pool area and slide ( slide that was open) are dated, steam room is very small, hot tub is overloaded with people, minimal room. I would explore other options prior to making the choice to attend here. Note this review is based on a weekday visit with young children.
Expérience négative: I recently visited village square for the first time, hoping for a enjoyable badminton game. However, my experience was marred by a group of rude kids who monopolized the court for an extended period (3+ hours). What a waste of 15 dollars and time. We didn't even get a chance to play once. Despite the facility's guidelines for fair usage, these individuals seemed oblivious to the fact that others were waiting. Their inconsiderate behavior not only disrupted the flow of the game but also created an unpleasant atmosphere for everyone else. It's disheartening to encounter such behavior, especially in a shared recreational space. I hope the management takes steps to enforce fair play and ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to enjoy the facilities. Improved monitoring and communication regarding court usage policies could go a long way in enhancing the overall experience for visitors.
