Sorry to hear that your experience with Shapes was less than positive. We have temporarily suspended daily drop ins at our facilities for the safety and wellbeing of our members. Although we would prefer to meet the needs of everyone, at this time we can accomodate member services only. Thank you for your understanding as we navigate through this period.
Expérience positive: The manager here is highly professional. Staff i met are friendly. But it seems the floor in front of the reception is messy coz some members don’t care about the indoor shoe policy. They just walk in with outdoor shoes with muddy or dirty stuff. Hopefully the frontdesk can keep an eye on policy violators or make a bigger sign to let everybody well informed.

Expérience négative: Read the contract and do not fall for employee deceptions. They sell you an annual membership telling you that you can unsubscribe at any time and at no cost, when you try to unsubscribe they tell you that they are very sorry that you cannot unsubscribe. Don't believe anything verbal and see that many people complain about the same thing.
Sorry to hear that your experience with Shapes was less than positive at our Nairn location. We have been in contact with yourself and your wife and did show you the membership agreements that you did sign for. Shapes has many options availalbe including short term, month to month and the annual agreement to which your wife enrolled on at the point of sale. All membership agreements had 7 days to make any changes, modifications or cancellations to your membership agreement. Managment has been in touch with options availalbe to your wife, and at this time, none of those options have satisfied your needs. According to social media, you are requesting another email from managment with those options which has been sent to you for your review.
Expérience négative: I forgot my watch at this gym and i asked gym staff to check cameras around in the gym and they asked me for a police report which i got from police and gave all the details they need and spoke with manager and staff no one was concerned at all even didn’t show any empathy to their customer. I have been a member since 2021 and staff did not cared at all, it’s such a shame what if someone from staff lose their stuff, what mostly concerned me was that no one reached back and provided me any update including manager. Someone need to teach these people customer service!
Hi Armaandeep, Sorry to hear that you forgot your watch at the club. Please understand that the survalence footage in the club is for the staff and members safety and due to privacy, not something that can be shared publically. Due to the nature of what you are looking for and with the height of the cameras, to locate a watch on the footage would be nearly impossible. We would be happy to have our general staff assist with looking, but unfortunately the security cameras would be unavailable to locate your watch. Thank you for understanding.
Expérience négative: This is the worst gym you can work out in. The customer service at the gym is so bad. You could never explain something to them and they show some form of understanding. I spoke to a lady on the phone and she said “whatever” and ended the call. They take out the fee a day before and charge $25 no matter what for any form of delay. I would advise not to join on a contract for your peace of mind.

Expérience négative: I've been coming to Shapes Fitness Pembina for a while, and while the gym facilities are decent, I can no longer overlook the negative environment created by some of the members. Unfortunately, I encountered several rude individuals who acted aggressively and displayed a lack of basic manners. This wasn't an isolated incident; it happened multiple times. I reported my concerns to the front desk, hoping for a resolution. However, the staff didn't seem to take my complaint seriously, and no action was taken. As a result, I no longer feel safe working out in this gym, and I will not be returning. I will also be sharing my experience with others to make them aware of the issues here. If a respectful and safe environment is important to you, I would suggest considering other options.

Expérience négative: I signed up for a contract for this gym and every month when I get paid they take a good chunk of money from my bank account now I need my money back or I will be filing a police report and they said I can't get out of the contract so never sign up for a membership at this gym they take money from your bank account witch is stealing never give your banking information to these people so be careful with this gym
Hi Travis, All memberships are billed on a biweekly basis. Depending on the membership that you purchased, those funds are withdrawn every second Thursday. Expérience négative: I wanted to leave a positive review about the gym, as the facilities and equipment are top-notch, but unfortunately, the staff’s attitude completely ruined my experience. Specifically, the girl at the front desk was very negligent in performing her duties. When I came to purchase a membership, she refused to do so, stating that she was busy with other matters. Her behavior was rude and completely unacceptable for a customer service role. Because of this attitude, I no longer plan to visit this gym and definitely won’t recommend it to my friends.

Expérience fantastique: I’m happy I chose Shapes to start my workout journey. Faezah has been the best trainer I could possibly have.She is sweet, understanding and her advice and guidance has helped me to workout more and improve my diet! I would absolutely recommend a personal trainer especially if you are new to the gym or have no clue what workouts work best for you.

Expérience fantastique: I have been having an extremely positive experience at this gym! since I started training with Saba last October, with the work out and meal plan I have dropped 33 pounds and over 16 cm off my waist! I plan to continue staying consistent with my weight loss journey with Saba and stay motivated :)

I had the pleasure to have Saba as my personal trainer over the last 5 months and have made unimaginable progress with her help! Expérience positive: I had a great personal training experience with Jin Chao, he taught me alot about bulking, the dieting and exercise. What stands out for me is his insistence in making sure you eat and that you feel the muscle you're working, i didn't understand the latter in beginning, but now I get it, will forever be grateful.

Expérience négative: I tried canceling my membership months ago over the phone due to financial strain. The communication was unclear I couldn't cancel at the time. I noticed a few months later I was still being charged. I called to inform them I had cancelled, they said I can't cancel over the phone. I went in thay day (roughly a week ago) to cancel, they said no problem. Today I notice a charge coming out of my account still. I call, they say there is a one month transition period before it will actually be cancelled....unfortunately the communication from this place was completely unclear and has continued to cost me money I was not intending to spend with them, as well as their rock wall has never once been usable (one of the top reasons I wanted a membership there) The staff and classes are friendly and nice, they gym is clean. But this experience will ensure I do not return in the future.
Hi Alex, When you come in to cancel, you sign a 30 days notice form. On this form that you signed, will outline your final payments and membership end date. 2 copies are printed and signed as one is for our refernce and the other is yours. Should you need another copy of your cancellation form, you can e-mail [email protected] with your membership number and we can get it sent to you. Hope this clears up some confusion!
Expérience négative: Finally found out there are massage chairs! Great but now I can’t use them. they’re getting new ones because people don’t know how to turn it off before it’s done instead of just jumping off it when its still going so it glitches and it’s stuck up. But now they’re getting new ones and you gotta update your membership to have yoga included to use it? Well that makes no sense and is a disappointment, considering not everyone does yoga at the gym… it would be nice if it came with the regular membership since it was last week… should at least honour the new massage chairs for past members.
Hi Molly, The standard massage chairs was a free service that was included in our basic membership agreement. These chairs were added in during the renovation that began in 2018 for the inconvenience the members experienced while the facilities were being updated. Since the chairs have been well loved and used at all times of the day and some respect more than others, we have to evaluate the services that were being offered. The new chairs ordered are not the same chairs and will be a premium service offered to those that are paying for the service as this will eliminate the misuse of the new chairs (which is the reason why we are in this position in the first place).
Expérience fantastique: I’ve had the best time in my fitness journey training with Faezeh Amiri here in this branch. She has given me the results I’ve wanted. Very friendly and helpful. She builds an amazing training environment and has been very supportive with my pace. 10/10 recommended and worth every penny

Expérience négative: Save your money! This gym is very poorly managed, specifically the trainer Rohan, since I have worked out here, he takes clients works out with them, doesn’t sanitize the weights after he’s finished using them, doesn’t clean up after himself or his clients. I even went so far as to ask him if he was finished with the weights and why he doesn’t clean them up as it doesn’t set a very good example for the other paying clients to the gym, his response was that he doesn’t have to clean up After his clients and that he is going to use them again later, I hadn’t seen him for 45 minutes even return to the same spot …. Meanwhile he is an employ of shapes, such a shame. He then got very aggressive in his tone, and pretty much told me to Shut up. The men’s sauna seems to be out of order more often than it is working, and it is a very dirty gym, staff don’t really do much other than buzz you in. Cheers. Pictures below are one of many examples.

Expérience fantastique: Shapes@Pembina is the best place for workout. My journey with shapes is filled with lot of joys and happy moments. I am on gaining program and I can see the progress. Faezah Amiri - she is the best trainer. I started taking personal sessions with her and she trained in very detail from day one. She ask about goals of individuals and give them designed programs for whole body along with diet to follow. She always watch her clients in very professional and respectful manner. I love gym because of her. I am 106 lb from 93 lb within 5 month of workout and the credit goes to Faezah. Thankyou so much Faezah. God bless you

Expérience positive: Gym has nice amenities and 24 hour access for members at a solid price. However, the men’s side smells horrible all the time from the BO (members don’t wear deodorant) and nobody racks their weights properly. Gym staff do nothing to enforce these items even though it’s clearly in their rules. After our year is up we’ll probably look somewhere else that’s more pleasant to work out at.

Expérience fantastique: Just took my first yoga class with Marla and wow, was I blown away! Her teaching style is absolutely wonderful. She's attentive, warm, and has this knack for making everyone comfortable with the poses. One thing that really stood out was how she guided us to breathe into each pose, encouraging us to be truly present within our bodies. The class struck a perfect balance between challenge and relaxation. I walked out feeling refreshed and in tune with myself. Can't wait to go back for more! If you're considering yoga, Marla's class is a must-try!

Expérience négative: My experience with this gym was utterly disappointing. Despite facing personal and medical challenges that is forcing me to leave the country, the management callously refused to accommodate my request to cancel. Despite explaining my situation in detail, they offered no flexibility, insisting on transferring my membership or putting it on hold, neither of which were viable options for me considering I’m not even coming back to the country! When I initially signed up, I specifically inquired about cancellation policies and was assured by the staff that it wouldn't be an issue. Granted, I should’ve read the contract myself but I trusted them. However, their lack of empathy and unwillingness to honor their words left me deeply frustrated. It's evident that their focus is solely on monetary gain, with little regard for customer care. I strongly advise against engaging with this company. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere. UPDATE TO RESPONSE BELOW: * I have talked to several members in the team due to no one really being of help except one lady (don’t remember her name) and she just said she would look into it (have not heard back yet). * At the time I signed up, annual contract was all that was presented to me, I had no idea about month to month until after the fact, although that was during your promotion and so, I understand that’s why the other option was not presented. * No "complimentary" hold was offered, I was offered to have the hold at $5/ month and was told that it would extend the date. Even the team member who offered this advised against it and said it wouldn’t really help my situation. * I said myself and my brother would look into that option AFTER receiving no viable option that would work for my situation.

You did not want to proceed with that option as you prefered to put in the cancellation request. You had mentioned that yourself and your brother would look into the transfer option for your account. On your signed membership agreement, the options were given to you that provided the annual and month to month terms, you had chosen the annual agreement. We do understand that circumstances have changed and we are doing our best to help you, however those options dont seem to align with what you are looking for. Expérience négative: Worst customer service . Just to start with i got enrolled with shapes as i wanted to get fit . I got a personal trainer and was happy to start with. I just got busy after my enrollment . I called in shapes and talked with a girl ( dont want to mention the girl name ) she is kind and sweet she helped me out . I wanted to cancle my gym membership as i was not able to give time first . On the 7th day i got in gym and told the girl but she convinced me that i will lower the price and keep u on hold i will lower your gym session . I was like okay and on that day i went to doctor as i got some allergy issue . But still she told me she is going to put me on hold . I was happy with that . Now comes the turning point . They never told me they are going to charge me afterwards . And i cannot cancel my gym membership never mentioned that.. after 7 days i god booked with a personal trainer . She was also very good . I talked with her 45 mins . And just to mention i went to gym only 1 day when i met trainer . I called the girl and told i wont be able to come gym as doctor told me no and i am having lots of work load. She told me she is going to talk with manager . I was like okay . After calling shapes 2 to 3 times i get to know i cannot cancle my gym membership . Like wow . If a person is having health issue . And it comes after 7th day. And a person is mentioning that i wont be able to make it . They give me ans no we can keep u on hold but still they are going to freeze my account and going to charge me whole year( manager gave me this statement ) . Like slly taking money without any use is that customer service you give . Please cancle my membership and please dont charge me because i am not coming to gym and i m not taking any sessions from personal trainer. Please cancle my membership . I dont want to use ur gym i dont want any personal training.
Hi Shruti, Sorry to hear that your experience with Shapes has been less than positive. All members have 7 days to make any changes or modifications on their membership agreements. When you came in on the 7th day to make those changes, you went with a lesser package for personal training and opted to put a hold on your membership. Yesterday you had personally spoken to the receptionist, club manager and were texting the employee that you befriended agressivly to cancel your membership. As per your membership agreement, we would be more than happy to provice a complimentary medical hold to your membership agreemnet or you can transfer your membership to an immediate family member. Expérience fantastique: This is a shout-out to my personal trainer, Saba. I decided to have a personal trainer as a way to try something new in my life. This was my first time working with a personal trainer, and I am extremely happy and satisfied with the experience with Saba. Her personalized approach, motivational attitude, and expert guidance have made my initial sessions incredibly valuable. It must be highlighted that she has incredible knowledge about fitness. Saba transformed what I began as a new endeavor into a focused goal for me. I will be back to work with Saba once I am done with my academics. I highly recommend her to anyone, and thank you, Saba, for your guidance.

Expérience fantastique: This review is for my trainer, Jingchao, specifically. When I started back at the gym about four months ago, I was 40, morbidly obese and needing a change. I've had trainers at Shapes before and they have done wonders. I knew I had to start at the bottom again and re-learn everything. I was prepared for that. The person who worked that day knew stated she knew the exact trainer to put me with, and bless her, she was right. Jingchao may not seem for everyone, however I would argue he is exactly the sort of trainer more gyms should have. This man cares about what he does. If you are experiencing discomfort, or if he notices your power level isn't exactly where it usually is, he changes formats. There is no wasted time, no matter what shape you are in. You are absolutely getting ever penny's worth with a session. That care is one way he stands out. After every set he checks in to make sure your joints are okay, that only the muscles we are training are activated and nothing more. And again, if say my wrist is starting to bug me, he immediately stops what we are doing and changes the plan for the day. I have never felt more cared for by a trainer than I have with Jingchao. He makes sure safety is priority number one. Which leads me to his best attribute, and the thing that may make folks such as myself apprehensive of taking classes with him (but, read on and you'll realize you really should). Because he is so safety-minded, you can trust him. When he tells you that you can do something, you can. Because he will be there to help. Make no mistake, Jingchao pushes you. At first, you will fail. He won't judge. He will help with his own body, his own strength, to get you through the set, to go through the motions. And he'll tell you how hard that was and how impressive it was you did it. And the next time? You'll be able to do it. Trust me, he knows what he is doing. I have lifted heavier weights in my current condition than I did 150 lbs lighter and 15 years younger. He's that good. You'll tell yourself you're out of shape. You'll tell yourself you could never lift that heavy, or for that long. And yet, if you stick with Jingchao, you will. Safely. And he's not a trainer that is going to stand there and nod. Check things off on a list. I've watched other trainers while at the gym do just that. But Jingchao is there grabbing the weights with you to make sure you finish if you need it. He's holding your knees to make sure you don't injure yourself. He's there in your ear telling you that you only have two left and you can do it. Yes, having someone be loud in your ear sounds cringe, but I can't count how many times it's given me the strength to lift that last rep and finish. This is why you need to be with Jingchao. You'll be nervous because he'll push you to limits you didn't know you had. But, you'll quickly realize he has your safety in mind. And that he is always thinking of ways to get you to your goals in the most efficient time. Soon, you won't feel "Oh my god how can I possible do this" but simply nod and realize you're going to be able to do it. He'll help you and make sure of it. Jingchao sets a new standard for trainers. I don't think I can go back to the very well-meaning but passive trainers of the past. We, especially those that think our chances of being in shape and in good condition are in the past, need trainers who will get involved, push us, motivate us, and make sure we stay safe. As these many words have shown, Jingchao is absolutely the best part of this place. If you are reading this and are like me, someone who thought your best days were behind you, didn't have the confidence to dream big on what you could accomplish, you need Jingchao. Believe in him, trust him, and you'll end up trusting yourself. And with his help, you will get to where you want to.

Expérience fantastique: I am a new member at this gym. Really like my experience so far, Sakshi is very knowledgeable and kind. She thoroughly explained me everything and gave me a complete tour. Gym is very clean, quiet, plenty of equipment, a lot of lockers to use. I am looking forward to use the climbing wall.

Hi Mohammed, Please be reminded that your membership agreement is an annual contract which put you on the lowest rate biweekly in which you signed and agreed to. Shorter and month terms are available, however those are at a higher rate bi weekly and subject to an enrollment fee in which you opted not to do. In attempt to cancel your membership yesterday, you refused to sign the cancellation form and left the club. Should you wish to proceed with the cancellation, please pop into the club and sign the form that you did not want to sign yesterday.

Expérience fantastique: From the service to the cleanliness, this gym was great. Walked in for the first time and jenaan was extremely helpful and kind! As well as the atmosphere here was very pleasant and felt like home. Will definitely be recommending this spot to all my friends and family.

Expérience négative: It has been a NIGHTMARE trying to cancel my membership. I started in December with an email stating I wished to cancel, no one ever replied. I called one day, they said they can't accept an email and that I have to come in person. I ended up doing that in January (January 27th to be exact). They refused to acknowledge/honour that I had sent an email asking to cancel and told me I have to give 1 months notice in person in writing. Fine, I did that, which would end my membership on February 26th. Come February 29th, another charge comes out of my account and they're no REFUSING to refund me. I asked "If I've paid, does that mean I can come in for the next 2 weeks to use the gym?". Their reply was "No, because your membership ended on the 26th". You pre-pay for gym memberships, so logic should suggest that I should be able to use the gym for the next 2 weeks (payments come out bi-weekly) or they should not have charged me. That charge on February 29th was the 3rd payment for my 1-month notice period. If you can't tell, I'm absolutely fuming.

Our intentions are to keep all interactions with our members on a good note and I personally apologize that we fell short. We bill for our services in arrears and not upcoming services. When you cancelled your membership on January 27th, the signed cancellation form indicated that although your membership expires on the 26th of February, the final payment for your agreement would be the 29th (as that was the arrears billing cycle). Your membership is now cancelled with no future payments. Our management team will reach out to you today with a copy of the signed cancellation form for your records. Should you with to return to Shapes in the future, we would be happy to provide you with 2 weeks free on your next membership agreement for the confusion.
Expérience négative: Very terrible and so inconsiderate. I was not available for sometime and had to cancel but even after canceling my membership, money was deducted from my account for the rest of the year. One of the front desk guys even tried to belittled me for complaining about my account being charged. They are absolutely the worst! They are so rigid and lack flexibility in terms of providing options for their customers.

Before the end of contract, I left Canada for few months. I tried to cancel my membership over the phone knowing it was already past 3 months and they kept charging my bank. They said they can not cancel my membership if I m not present in person. So I paid the hold fee for four months while I was abroad. After returning to Canada, When I went there to cancel my membership, the staff handed me a paper saying I have to make 3 more payments because cancellation is a subject of 30days notice. Means I will be paying over $100 just to cancel my membership which was actually supposed to end 5 months ago as I only had a three months contract with them. I registered here even after having another active gym membership because my university gym is always stays packed. I kind of feel like, Shapes does not care about their member. They just want money . I regret registering with them
Hi Azizur, Thank you for reaching out to Shapes. I want to apologize for the confusion about the cancellation of your membership. We do not have exclusive 3 month agreements, we offer a short term that is a minimum commitment of 91 days and after that period it would contiune onto a pay as you go basis, month to month until you cancel. When you are on the month to month portion of your agreement, your membership is subject 30 days notice to terminate, all health clubs operate this way. I see on your account we didnt a receive a request to cancel but an email from you asking to hold the account. This was done unil you could terminate. With your cancellation, you would still have full access to the facilites, that we encourage all members to use. If you wish to have another copy of your agreement to review these details I have outlined, please let us know and that can we sent to you. Thank you for understanding.

Expérience fantastique: It is really good journey I started with my trainer Rohan at gym.He fixed my 2 yr knee problem in 2 months and the change I fell in my body shape pumps me to stay connected with gym.Rohan not only you help ed me with your training program but diet ,mental health guidance is also helpful.

Expérience fantastique: Shout to Shapes trainer Rohan. I took his 30 minute HIIT class Saturday and it was amazing!! Very fun, upbeat, great workout, combining strength training, conditioning & overall wellness. Felt so amazing after. Very friendly, helpful & knowledgeable. I will definitely be taking his classes again!

Expérience négative: Honestly speaking I was so happy to register because someone optioned to oh for me, but then I don’t have the person with me, and I am a student who can’t even work to pay regular bills, I have tried communicating with them so I can pay monthly in a bit but no, they keep threatening to take legal actions on me, I wonder if getting me arrested would provide the money. The gym is nice but the cancellation is like a walk to hell, very inconsiderate, wonder how I would pay a huge amount of money for a gym i didn’t even work with for a week. Don’t register with them for at the end they will put you through hell

Expérience fantastique: Sending out a big thank you to Shapes Pembina trainer Saba. We had 6 short weeks together before I was scheduled for a major surgery. We got results and I felt healthier and stronger going into my surgery. I'm looking forward to continuing our training together soon. Saba is extremely knowledgeable, our time together was always productive and fun!

I am a student visiting the university for a few months and I applied online as instructed for the free trial upon hearing back from the manager I called to double check before the tour and visit. Was instructed to bring just a piece of ID as I am from another province and only here temporarily I was instructed that the one day trial was not for out of province students and that I would have to sign up for an outrageous over priced membership for 2 weeks at 68$ which is double what other gyms are charging for a gym that has broken down machines and over packed weight rooms. The drop In alone was 16$ and they offered no customer service for someone new to the area I will.never bring my business back to such an inconsiderate establishment and I'll be warning the 100's of other students who were interested in the same offer to choose the competitors over shapes.
Sorry to hear that your experience with Shapes was less than positive. We have several short term options available for out of town students that are less than what was quoted, however those were for memberships and not trial passes that you had mentioned you were only interested in. Our systems also indicated that there was an issue with a previous membership that you had that required you to clear up before becoming a member again. Expérience négative: Negatives- Old machines, lots of drag on machines. Free weights are a mess. Gym is half the size of what it used to be. Short on cable attachments. Decent amount of free weight benches are bolted into the ground infront of the wall and not a mirror so can’t see your form. Can just imagine how congested it would be come rush time. Overall wouldn’t be back unless extremely convenient. Used to think it was the better of the other shapes 5 years ago, now it’s at the bottom. Pros- clean, nice staff.

Expérience fantastique: Long overdue but better late than never. Kudos to my trainer Rohan who made personal training not only productive but also fun with intellectual discussions. He is very knowledgeable and very personable and I highly recommend his sessions if you're looking for male trainers. A kudos to Shapes stuff Valerie who ensured a very smooth cancellation process and took the time to address all questions I had. It would have been hard to handle issues in Winnipeg so greatly appreciate her prompt support.

Expérience fantastique: This was my first time working with a personal trainer. My experience with Rohan exceeded my expectations. I was worried about becoming dependent on working with a trainer, as I have never lifted weighs before. Rohan gave me the confidence and skills to continue beyond my scheduled sessions by teaching me a manageable number of exercises, developing a workout plan and teaching me how to tweak the plan to meet my needs and progress. As awkward as it must be sometimes to be the only male in a female-only gym (or on the female-only side of a co-ed gym), Rohan is very professional, friendly and warm. I would definitely recommend Rohan to anyone who is looking for a personal trainer. No matter what your goals are, he will work with you to get you on the right track.

Expérience négative: Do not make the mistake of signing up for this gym, they make cancellation as hard as it can get, especially if you have left the province. Every other gym I have been to, to cancel the membership all you have to do is let them know about a month before the contract expiration, these guys make you come down to the gym and sign a cancellation form. If you have left the province, they will make you mail your details to an address with a letter stating to cancel the membership, I do not understand why in this digital world I cannot email them these details. I also read other one star reviews and all were about the cancellation of the membership, and the owner’s replies to every review seem extremely defensive instead of working on the cancellation process and making it easier. This reflects the customer service you should be expecting from this gym. Very disappointed.
Hi Yash, Yes, Shapes too accepts a 30 days notice to terminate your membership agreement. Once we receive your cancellation, it is backdated to the date that you sent it on and not processed the day we receive it, no additional payments to be made to your notice period. We require a signature on the cancellation the same way we would for a membership agreement. Expérience fantastique: My husband and I joined Shapes in September and we started doing Hot Yoga. Tanys was our first instructor and we thought she was awesome. She gave very clear and concise instructions and there is never any confusion as to what you should be doing. She speaks loud enough that she can be heard through the whole studio. She brings a ton of enthusiasm and passion for yoga. Her energy is contagious. Shapes is very lucky to have her as an instructor with so much knowledge and experience. We love doing all of the classes that Tanys teaches.

Expérience négative: Shady company, literally anywhere else is better. canceling is a complete nightmare, rude front desk staff, not to mention the “manager” Natalia signing me up for a 1 year term (which I never received a copy of the signed agreement even after requesting it be emailed to me) 8 days before my original 3 month term agreement expired, upping the bi weekly price of payment, being extremely rude, and completely unprofessional!! This deserves 0 stars I wouldn’t put a cent towards this company if I had the heads up

Upon reviewing your agreement, it looks as though you upgraded your membership agreement to an annual term and received a reduction of $8 to your biweekly rate and when you had requested the signed copy, it was emailed to you same day. We have tried to call you to review your agreement with you, however we have not heard back. According to our records you successfully cancelled your membership on March 3rd however you still have payments remaining to complete your annual term in which you signed off on. After that argument she target us and start harrasing us. These guys are lucky because I don’t have option to give 0 star. It is better to drive little more and go to Good -life fitness.

Expérience négative: Moved out of the province in 2021, still paid for the whole agreement understanding the terms. After agreement was finished, called them to cancel few times, the answer I got was I have to visit in person to cancel. So in the beginning of December, somebody (really thankful to you, didn't catch your name) mentioned that I can write a letter and send it to them for cancelation. Sent out a letter, they received it on December 6th, need 30 days to cancel, yesterday was the last day. Still charged me on January 5th. So the explanation I got over the phone, because you were locked in etc. Etc. So couldn't cancel. I was on MONTH TO MONTH, NOT LOCKED IN. The most frustrating part is that they think that they are doing a favor by canceling my membership. Just want to make sure YOU ARE NOT. I only used your services for 2-3 months but paid for the whole thing. It sucked but never took it out on anybody. When one of the person over the phone Said I didn't get my commission for you. So I shouldn't be paying anything after my agreement was over. After checking the reviews, I am glad I sent my friend with a letter. You guys are absolutely no help when somebody is moving ACROSS the country. NO I DONT' WISH TO DISCUSS IT ANY FURTHER. You guys have ROBBED me enough. Thank you for not telling me for 5 months that I could send a letter to cancel.

We weren't able to locate you in our system, however our membership cancellation policy is the same in every case. It is required in writing and in person. If you have moved out of the province without cancelling; you may mail in a cancellation notice to our office. If the membership is cancelled after the initial commitment period; it is a 30 days' notice. If the letter is sent prior to the end of the commitment; we ensure the membership ends at the end of the commitment period. Either way you receive a confirmation email. Expérience négative: Worst experience I’ve ever had! Their cancellation process will make you go crazy because they keep on charging you even if you told them that you want to cancel. So I requested to cancel my membership and they said they can’t and they paused my membership instead. My membership was going to end on November but now I get an email that my membership date has been extended because I’ve paused my membership and now the new cancellation date is in August. This is crazy!! Person in the email told me to go to gym and give a cancellation notice so that it doesn’t gets extended again and when I go to the gym (which is 2 hour drive from my home) the staff said that they can submit the cancellation notice before 30 days of cancelling date…in short they are just a scam and will keep on irritating you so that you end up paying them and give up on your money! Completely dissatisfied and will never recommend.

You signed up on a 1-year of service agreement, which you have frozen for 9 months. As such; the agreement end date has continued to extend. I was a member with them for more than 2 years and I went in person to cancel my membership and they said they would cancel it at the end of the contract as I was going to be moving away. But they have been charging me for more than a year after I cancelled. I was sending them emails and now they want me to come in person to cancel again even though I have moved out of Winnipeg. I talked to Natalia on the phone, and she was extremely rude and refused to listen to my concern.
Hi Ramandeep, When cancellations are given in club they are signed for and you would receive a print out with the remaining payments and the contract end date. If you cancelled, please refer to this sheet as all cancellation details are printed out, on our end this notice was never processed as it usually is "time stamped" on the membership agreement itself that it has been processed and set up for cancellation. We do understand that members move out of process and we are aware that management has notified you how to cancel, in which you are choosing not to cancel. Expérience négative: I feel I don’t need to give the whole sob story with my membership cancellation problems considering the reviews are full of them all I need to say is the staff at this gym are so disrespectful. Being a women wanting to work out at a gym where they are all about women feeling safe is bs the personal trainers stare at you and smile creepily, one time I was working out by the mirrors and grass patch on the women’s side and I had a man THAT WORKED THERE staring at me winking and I gave him a dirty look and shook my head and he wouldn’t look away so I had to move and he followed me with the person he was training wherever I went!! Also they have a cleaner that doesn’t even clean half the time he just stares at the women working out, it’s annoying and rude. The gym is run down, smells awful, and full of creepy men who only seem to go to stare at women. Which the workers encourage apparently. Worst gym in Winnipeg- oh and shapes stop calling me!!

We have not heard about this concern and we take these accusations seriously. At this time we do not have male training staff - is the person wearing a staff shirt or a preferred member shirt - please reach out to [email protected] with your membership number as we cannot locate your name in the system and let us know times so we can follow up and get to the bottom of this for you. Our Pembina location just underwent a huge renovation which also included new equipment, if you can also let us know what is run down, we can repair right away. If you are referring to the mirror on the women's only side, that is being repaired as it was accidentally damaged by another member. Again we apologize for your experience - once we can pin point times we will look into these specific situations and deal with it accordingly
Expérience fantastique: This is the best ever gym i have gotten into. It has all the equipments required. The separate section for women to workout is a bliss. The Staff at this location is really polite and helpful. I was given a Tour by Miss Sakshi and she explained everything so briefly and helped me out to chose the best deal for me. Once, i lost my keys and Miss Vallari helped me out to find those. With the staff being so obliged and the Gym, the best place to workout makes me crave to come at Shapes

Expérience négative: The service is absolutely terrible. They make you jump through hoops to cancel your membership. I told them that I moved across the country and needed to cancel after being charged, they said I have to physically mail in a photo of my drivers license and new lease to prove that I moved— which in itself is already ridiculous since I should be able to cancel for any reason. I asked them that since it’s photos of my id and lease, why would I not be able to just mail it in? And they just kept telling me “that’s the way it is” instead of actually telling me WHY that’s the way it is. When I asked to speak to a manager or someone who’s in charge of these policies they just told me no. Absolutely vile customer service.
Hi Page, I believe you spoke to our Pembina location just now and they explained the policy to you. If you have in fact moved as we cannot just go off the honor system , once we receive proof, we are more than happy to review and let you know the cancellation options available to you. The manager at the Pembina location is currently on holidays and that is why there was not a manager available to speak to. Similar to a cell phone contract and as outlined on your membership agreement that you signed for, the agreement continues on a pay as you go basis, making you month to month until you cancel your membership agreement. This is standard at any health club facility. Once the cancellation notice is received, its processed and you receive immediate confirmation. Please note that employee in which you were speaking to went out of her way to make sure an accommodation was made to accept your out of town confirmation, going about expectations to ensure your needs were met - our apologies if after the call we fell short of meeting standards.
Expérience fantastique: I love Shapes and definitely think it is the best gym in Winnipeg! Over the years I have been to many many different gyms in Winnipeg, and I can easily say that Shapes is my favorite. Shapes' gyms are bright, clean, and inviting. As a woman, I love the option to work out in an all-women environment. I feel relaxed and super comfortable. I also totally love the classes at Shapes! They motivate me to work hard, and prevent my workouts from getting boring. I love that you can go to any Shapes location in the city, and the classes are the same; they have that consistency which makes it easy and comfortable to go from location to location. I also love the music in the Shapes classes. Current and upbeat, they always keep me feeling happy and proud of myself for working out! I also love the soft floor in the hot yoga studios. The soft floor is a delight for my sometimes painful feet. I love Shapes!!
Expérience fantastique: Have been going for the past 3 weeks and have lost 4 lbs so far. Ravi my personal trainer is very motivational and helpful with questions His routines change often and he is always booked (highly recommend him). Daniella is always accommodating and helpful with requests (i.e my training schedule). The gym is always clean as well the showers. People are very friendly and outgoing. I go six days a week and love every moment of it. I feel I found a great place that cares about me and my goals and really wants to see me succeed. See ya there tonight! Can't wait for another weigh in!!!!
Expérience positive: This gym is convenient to go to, the staff are very friendly and have been helpful. However, the gym etiquette here is very poor, members and trainers don’t put the weights away properly, some people don’t unrack their machines when their done or are not mindful that it’s a public gym. I haven’t seen bumper weights here. The women’s side lacks weights, the dumbbells only go up to 45 if there all there. There’s not flat benches for chest press and only one squat rack on the womens side. I hope in the future trainers also train gym etiquette and the staff help maintain a tidy gym. Otherwise I enjoy this gym, but will eventually grow out of it.

Expérience fantastique: Prior to joining the gym, I had little knowledge of the use of the equipments. I was unsure of how to acquire the right balance between physical activity and nutrition. However, trainer Ivan has helped me understand the use and purpose of the equipments for my workouts; he helped me understand my own body mechanics and how to fuel it appropriately with the right nutrition. Shapes offers a holistic approach to fitness and healthful living and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to have meaningful health and fitness gains.
Expérience fantastique: I had a great experience training with the personal trainers at Shapes. I trained with Torben, Kevin, Jowie and Ivan. All of them were very supportive and considerate of my goals. Both Kevin and Ivan helped me with nutrition and ways to manage my calories as well. Considering the very few sessions I had with Ivan just before completing all my sessions, he gave me exposure to all types of training. He supported me in identifying the most productive ways of exercising by myself. He has been very consistent in following up on training routines and nutritional habits and definitely goes the extra mile for his clients!

Expérience négative: Just as other reviewers have said, they follow the classic gym business model of signing you up to a contact and then screwing you over when you try and cancel. They tried to pull money out of my account after I cancelled. I contacted their head office / customer service and asked them nicely to stop doing that. When they would not stop, I called the bank to reverse the charges and put a block on their unauthorized debits. Then, they called me endlessly, until I sternly told them to stop. As a final gesture, they put a record on my file in order to damage my credit rating. Avoid all of this non-sense and apply to a different gym. Most of the surrounding ones (Goodlife, Altea, and U of M) are larger, nicer and have moved away from this horrible business model.
Hi Milad, Sorry to hear that your experience with Shapes was less than positive. It looks as though we received and processed your cancellation on November 17th 2021 - at that time you still had 3 payments remaining, however you had put a stop payment on those and had mentioned that you refused to pay as you will not be using. That is why you were contacted by a 3rd party collection agency. If this is not paid, standard to any other payment schedule with cable, cell phone etc, after a certain period of time, it is sent to collections. You were a regular at the facility for a year, our apologies that a good fitness relationship ended this way. Expérience fantastique: Mr Shannon was super nice and explained very well about the charges and memberships. It has been a very good experience truly! There is a separate section for exercise, sauna, locker rooms for ladies too and you get your own key for the gym in case it’s closed but you still wanna come in! The massaging chairs are super comfortable too and helped me with my cramps many time :) Shoutout to Mr. Shannon for giving such a great customer service.

Expérience négative: I am not and will never recommend this to anyone, When I was a newComer, I took my wife and my two kids to shapes. We got new membership I thought it was monthly I had difficulty understanding English. We told the stuff member that we have spacial need son they said we accept any child. After two days they said we cannot continue looking after your son because he was not doing good to his sister and other kids. They asked us to come one in the morning one in the evening so one of us to stay with my son. I told them we only could come in the morning they said then that's your problem. I asked to cancel the agreement here I knew it was for one year. Daycare money was $28 biweekly. They said you have to pay 13 times to cancel daycares fee, I did but they didn't cancel even after 13 times of payment. when I told them not going to pay the left if they didnt cancle the daycare fees, they gave my name to collection. I just used one month no one care they only care about money. I took my cousins for interpeter they asked us to pay for the hole one year even if I didn't us it I will never ever forget Shapes and I don't recommend to anyone.

Expérience positive: It’s a decent gym in the south end of Winnipeg. Equipment here is fairly well maintained. I’ve tried a few classes here pre Covid but nothing since. What I do like is, it being situated next to save on foods. This makes it very easy to make a pit stop for basic essentials after the workout. It doesn’t have some of the amenities of the newer and bigger gyms recently opening up also on the south end. The woman’s only side which is maybe bigger or equivalent in size as the coed size makes it more attractive for women but does the opposite for me. So now that I think of that I’m inclined to drop this rating down from a 4 to a 3. There is definitely room for improvement.

Expérience négative: If I could, I would rate 0 stars. Sure, Shapes’ facilities are adequate and do the job for anyone looking to work out. That being said, the customer service received has been more than disappointing. During the pandemic, I was pregnant and made the choice to minimize exposure by not going to the gym anymore. I called to cancelled my membership and was told I couldn’t do so over the phone. I argued as it seemed silly to have to come in given the situation with Covid and all other businesses offering services by phone or online. Finally I spoke to a manager who indicated they could cancel my membership via phone. Little did I know, this did not happen and I kept being charged for the membership. I only realized this when I received an email asking for a payment as 2 months had gone unpaid as there was a glitch with their system and withdrawing pre authorized payments. I was furious finding this out and contacted management again. I was told to come in the club which I did to finally cancel the membership and talk about my issue with this requested payment. The manager told me it would be unfair to ask me to pay and said she would ask payroll to contact me regarding the issue. Long story short, after 3 months of little contact from them (emails reminding me to pay, me having to call the manager again, and payroll emailing me saying I never answered my phone which is totally untrue), I am told I still need to pay for these 2 months where their system faulted and didn’t withdraw my money when all along, I thought my membership was cancelled. I recognize some of this was oversight as I did not closely notice my accounts with a new baby at home, but I just can’t believe a big cooperation would screw over a little guy like this for 57.78$. Never in my life am I ever signing up with their company again.

Do note that there was a period that your membership was not billed and you were using the facility - this was due to the opening and closing during the ongoing pandemic. As a family run business this was explained to all members as we would not charge for services that were not used. We only ask our members to pay for services used. Should you wish to return in the future, we would be happy to honor those services to you, until then we wish you all the best with your future fitness endeavours.
Expérience fantastique: So love the newly renovated studio. Staff are warm. Love the yoga class. Lounge is pretty, clean and spacious. Very good place for fitness and wellness.

Expérience fantastique: I joined Shapes in the early 1990's because it was close to my place. I enjoyed the classes and the equipment was stellar. I paused my membership a few times and cancelled without issue. The gym (at least the female side) was clean I thought the cleaning person was friendly and smiley. Only reason I cancelled is because I started Crossfit. As much as I love Crossfit, I cannot make class times these days. I am thinking of signing up again here.

Expérience fantastique: My best me time place next to my massage therapist's abode. Varieties of group classes from Power (weights) to Active (cardio+weights). Shower rooms and change area always tended to by lovely Fatima. Lots of machines available for everyone to jump in! After a good class or workout, refresh with a quick bath, and indulge in the sauna room to complete your pamper time! Staff friendly and helpful, place clean and always in good order. Overall a really good fitness place to go to!!

Expérience négative: They do not deserve any star at all. Because their instruments do not worths the price. But, still I was continuing, because of 1 year contract. You can not cancel that. Totally rip off. **When the covid restrictions came for vaccination prove. **I had a prove from Manitoba gov that proves, I am vaccinated. **But they did not accepted that. Because it was not a QR code. I did not have the QR Code that time. Because of some Complications with government server . It took more than a month to get it. I went there 3 times in a week. But they said the same thing, “this is not accepted” For this situation **I went to an other gym. And they accepted that prove as like as the other places. Now, the restriction over and they started charging me. Now I do not want to continue with them (I got comfortable with the new gym) but they said, I have to pay for the next 9 months. It was not my fault that I quit. But, they do not care at all they only care about the money. **The full team is a is Liar** As I was reading other comments I found they staying. They have sort tear membership. ** but the funny thing is, when I went there they said they have only this plan which is a year** **I have not seen any gym service like this before** ** check some other gyms around the city they are customer friendly. And they cares. ** Shapes is there to take money, not for your service**

Expérience fantastique: I would like to thank Ivan for his training sessions and for sharing his vast knowledge about fitness. He is extremely helpfull and motivating. I have had such a great experience at this gym.
Expérience négative: Rip off! If there is a zero star, I would give them. The worst gym ever! They tempt you then you’re stuck with them for a year.! You have to pay even if you can’t go! You must pay a total of $465 even if your life changed and can’t make it. And You Cannot cancel or transfer to anyone. Wife requested to cancel or transfer to me they said no cancellation if you want to transfer to husband , he will have a new agreement for one year! What’s the point?!! How is this even a transfer?? If you are to go to a gym I would recommend Fitness Planet has a better deal for $15 and free cancelation anytime!

When members are presented with the options; it is up to them to select what type of membership fits them best, and there is a 7-day cancellation grace period in the event of any changes. Once the commitment is agreed to; we offer freezing and transferring options depending on where in the contract you are. Expérience négative: I was very excited to join this gym, however I have been faced with nothing but issues, horrible customer service, particularly from the front staff member, Natalia, and also some of the most unprofessional business I have witnessed conducted. I am not surprised the Better Business Bureau has so many reports against them. Do NOT join this gym unless you want to be scammed. Just to add as a response to the owners response; I was at Shapes several times to ask for help, I did not use my card so it was not recorded. I asked for any options as it was the pandemic, however the front desk staff, Natalia, simply said: "You should not have signed the contract." Not exactly the help the owner "suggests" they offer.

Expérience négative: I really like the staff here and although I moved further away I still like coming here, although I specifically signed up for yoga. It would be nice if more than an hour notice on a cancellation on an early morning class, so people can get ready and drive there! I was 7th on the waiting list so didnt think I would get in but there were a bunch of cancellations. The staff doesnt check them until the morning of. So more notice would be appreciated especially that I am having and extremely hard time getting into these classes already and it's all I had signed up for. Frustrating.
Thank you for taking the time to review and leave your feedback. Normally when we add members on to the roaster with less than an hour notice we would give a call to let the member know. We get it's not ideal for anyone to have to wait until last minute to know if they'll be getting in a class, but unfortunately even when we had a 2 hour window to cancel; members would still call in to remove themselves from roasters due to weather conditions, or last minute incidents. We'll be sure to remind staff to check for cancellations as early as possible, and once again thank you for your feedback.
Expérience négative: Avoid this gym at all costs. Most of the staff have horrible attitudes, unwelcoming and unfriendly. Many complaints of harrassment being dealt with wildy inappropriately. Plus the women's only side is dingy, dirty and not an inviting space to work out. I've stopped going here for years and still get phone calls from them asking to renew my membership. Predatory and annoying.

Expérience négative: Good facilities, but a nightmare administrative staff. I would NOT recommend this gym to anyone. Stick to GoodLife... I signed up for a membership, timing it so that it would expire when I leave Winnipeg. With COVID related closures, they put billing on hold. Little did I know, that was extending my membership obligations. Now I'll be paying for this membership 4 months after having left Winnipeg...and nowhere to make use of it in Toronto. They consider your membership obligations not in terms of time, but in terms of how many payments they've received from you. When they say "1 year contract", it is absolutely not that. What they really mean is "26 bi-weekly payments". So if the gym closes, they don't bill you...but you're still responsible for these payments before you can terminate the contract. Sneaky. And they're proud of it. Of course, trying to appeal to them was of no benefit. Snarky remarks made by the manager who is simply a displeasure to deal with at the Pembina location.

Expérience positive: The Cyber Monday deal as too good to give up. Quiet in the morning and a vast amount of quality equipment and class offerings. Gym is quite clean and well maintained. Staff is friendly and helpful. They really need to get with the times and get a scanning app to allow entry, a FOB and membership card makes no sense. Also, class booking is only 3 days in advance and makes it hard to organize a week of workouts. Other locations are not as nice as the Pembina location. It's disappointing going to another location and having inferior equipment.

I cancelled my membership contract and they kept on charging me and when I called head office they hang up on me every time even when I have a paper saying that I have my membership subscription is cancelled. Their bunch of unprofessional workers sent my personal information to a credit retrieval company afterwards even though they kept on charging my account.
