BirdCoop Fitness Centre: Avis
Expérience fantastique: going to birdcoop everyday is the highlight of my university experience. it has all the equipment programs and resources necessary to enrich your life and achieve your athletic dreams
Expérience négative: Too crowded for full workouts, essential equipment is always broken
Expérience fantastique: It's been 18 years since I've set foot in this UBC gym. So, I'm certain it's transformed considerably. I always appreciated that it was within a stroll of my on-campus townhouse. Hence,I could never make excuses for not attending the Bird Coop 6 days a week, following my 8-15km runs. The array of equipment adequately complemented my rigrous training as a long distance runner. It's the only sport I really excelled in and enjoyed. So, I was grateful that this gym catered to Varsity Athletes,as most of my Human Kinetics classes were situated in The War Memorial Gym. I'm interested to see how much UBC has evolved since I graduated, as it's essentially a city within a city. I don't know any other university campus in Canada, that boasts forests, mountain views, a beach and Westbrook Mall!
Expérience positive: Gets pretty busy but that’s fine once you get used to it
Expérience négative: way too crowded. UBC needs many gyms instead of just 2 considering how many students are studying here
Expérience positive: Equipment was old but good variety. Still busy at start of school year though
Expérience négative: Lots of student less space for workout and not too many machines
Expérience négative: Nice staff, undersized and expensive. Also annoying that certain equipment is only allowed to be used if you pay for a personal trainer.
Expérience négative: Too small, not enough equipment, limit capacity besides the gym being relatively empty
Expérience négative: Too small, too busy, school already expensive so why am I paying so much to use a sub-par gym.
Expérience négative: Their equipment smells bad
Expérience négative: Great for students as it is cheap. However, it opens late in the morning and closes fairly early so the hours aren't great. Given the price accessibility, many students use it so it's almost always busy. 4 benches, 4 squat racks with deadlift platforms and 2 extra deadlift platforms, and an OHP rack as well as other assorted cables, machines, cardio machines, and free weights. There is also a very small climbing cave.
Expérience négative: This place is way too small for the size of the university.
Expérience négative: Gym is way too small for a university of this size. I waited in line for 25 minutes just to get a squat rack
Expérience négative: Very crowded. Hard to find a squat rack open. unnecessarily loud.
Expérience fantastique: So many baddies here
Expérience positive: Too small for a university gym
Expérience négative: This is the worst gym I have ever been to. Such a small gym for such a big university. Going to the gym used to be my thing to get over my stress and freshen up now it’s completely opposite. Beside waiting in line to get in, then wait for equipment, I was very worried that Im gonna get Covid here. Up until the recent Covid restrictions where they ask for proof of vaccine I was almost convinced I will 100% get covid. No physical distancing! Its not even possible. I understand you dont need to wear mask while working out but some people font even have mask on them! Take a look at University of Manitoba Active living Centre and maybe learn something. When I was an undergrad student there we paid $0 and used the state of the art gym here such a pity I had to pay $35 to use this out dated, unsafe, waste of time gym.
Expérience négative: Staff do not enforce Covid protocols or the mask mandate for users. In fact, some staff themselves do not wear masks when walking through the facilities. This makes for an uncomfortable workout environment for those who actually have concerns regarding safety and the pandemic.
Expérience positive: Air flow problem!
Expérience négative: For such a prestigious University, the gym here is disgraceful and an absolute joke. There are thousands of students here and this gym is small and crowded, the equipment is old, nothing about the place is inspiring nor up to standards of other gyms. They seem to throwing up brand new buildings over night but have yet to put any effort to a new state of the art gym. There should be a MASSIVE centre 20,000 plus sq foot. Take a look at what Thompson Rivers University has "T.C.C" and take some notes. Where are students supposed to get a proper work out in?
Expérience fantastique: Good gym but gets quite busy.
Expérience positive: Great and cheap place for working out. It gets busy sometimes but other than that, it's not bad at all!
Expérience positive: never come here . son said very busy but good . waiting long time but cheap . good .
Expérience fantastique: This is my home. The facility has been upgraded recently and the machines are new. It really is a great time in the mornings. Gets very busy during peak time.
Expérience positive: Great and cheap place for working out. It gets busy sometimes but other than that, it's not bad at all!
Expérience positive: Whoever’s responsible for the music shall be expelled haha. Tempo is so low, it makes me fall asleep. Been here a few times without my headphone. Torture. Also before UBC, I lived and worked on a campus of two thousand people. And the gym was the same size as Birdcoop. UBC needs to build a new gym that’s at least 10x bigger.
Expérience positive: Because there are so many people here at a time, you don't get important things like - easy access to a staff - equipment to yourself - not being overcrowded But the place is not terrible because the equipment works fine and the place is sensibly put together.
Expérience positive: Nice, but a bit dark and the climbing area is a bit messy
Expérience positive: Pretty crowded gym, dumbells and other free weights are separated which is understandable since it does get very crowded otherwise but it is still inconvenient. Has a small bouldering wall which is a nice bonus!
Expérience fantastique: Gains gains for students
Expérience positive: Has become little less busier since the opening or the arc and is clean and has various weight training equipments and cardio as well. There are change rooms for boys and girls with locker rentals available just have to give a piece of ID. Good crowd small inside room for females to work out separately if they like.
Expérience fantastique: Amazing place for workout. Good trainers and good machines. Cheap for UBC student.
Expérience fantastique: Great workout place and friendly staffs
Expérience fantastique: After 11pm great place
Expérience positive: well-maintained
Expérience négative: Just not big enough for this university. Olympic platforms were very small and you have to put your bag in a locker and there was a queue to get a key in that locker. Might be just a lot of new years promise makers.
Expérience positive: Very crowded and not that big
Expérience négative: Very very small and tight place for a huge university, very crowded. They do not have more than 3-4 dirty rags for you to clean the equipment. I would like it a little if they had more weightlifting platforms.
Expérience négative: Lack of air flow/ventilation makes it difficult to work out in
Expérience positive: Really great price for student. They just got new squat racks and they are amazing. They have 5 racks, 6 o-lift platforms, 4 bench presses, cannot ask for more.
Expérience positive: Sweaty place with lots of undergrad frat boys but it's cheap
Expérience positive: Good value for money
Expérience positive: Impossible to beat the price as a student, and has everything you need! Gets extremely crowded during peak hours.
Expérience positive: A bit busy otherwise nice!
Expérience positive: Cheap drop in price: 7 CAD. You'll never find a drop in that cheap in Seattle (21 USD) or Sydney (22 AUD) ... But it is far too small a facility for the community it serves. Not enough free weights but a lot of racks. It's often busy but they BADLY need to expand, even though they very recently renovated (so I heard).
Expérience négative: Unfortunately this is the main gym at UBC. The space is way too small for a university of this size. The staff are certainly friendly and there is definitely an effort of maximize use of space, but during the fall/winter semesters, it's like a rave in there!
Expérience positive: Super crowded
Expérience négative: Crowded facilities, old equipment, high price for a university.
Expérience positive: Crowded, but staff and other gym goers are always willing to help. In desperate need of expansion as it fills to the brim on a regular basis. Equipment is kept clean.
Expérience positive: Crowded facilities are old time need extremel makeover
Expérience fantastique: Top gym for it's price. Can't find a student deal like that anywhere else.
Expérience positive: A bit crowded almost always. But a great option for students as all facilities have a discounted rate/free options for ubc students.
Expérience positive: Way too small for such a large school, only reason it's not two stars is because of the price.
Expérience positive: Be ready to fight for equipment and use phrases like 'can I work in' and 'how many sets do you have left, bro?'. The price is pretty great though, at 30$ a semester for students.
Expérience positive: Crowded all the time with smelly students but very cheap
Expérience positive: Very crowded
Expérience négative: Always crowded and the music can suck
Expérience positive: Perpetually packed
Expérience positive: always super crowded
