ARC Climbing + Yoga

Expérience négative: Waited until noon when they opened, but the bouldering wasn't open until 1pm? And I'm supposed to check insta to find out? Srsly?

Expérience fantastique: I've been coming here to do rock climbing and yoga for the past 9 years and absolutely love this place. I've been to climbing gyms and yoga studios in other Canadian cities and I have to say that ARC is by far my favourite without a doubt. For climbing, there are so many routes to choose from that cater to different skill levels. Even if you're climbing alone, there's still quite a few options because of the auto belays and the bouldering wall. Their top rope wall is honestly amazing and I never get bored here. I find the yoga instructors are also amazing and there is a lot of variability in the classes so I always feel like I'm able to experience something new. You can choose from hot power yoga to restorative, and they even offer aerial yoga which is a lot of fun. ARC also has a great atmosphere and the staff are always friendly. This gym doesn't feel intimidating at all, and instead feels very welcoming. I love this place and miss it every time I'm not in Sudbury because it really is the best gym I've been to.

Expérience négative: I visited Arc Climbing and Yoga Gym in Sudbury for the weekend, hoping to end my trip on a high note by trying their top rope climbing. My partner and I regularly climb in various gyms across the GTA, so we were excited to check out this one. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We were told that we couldn’t belay each other for the test due to concerns about cheating, which meant finding a stranger to assist us. While this was manageable, the rest of the process was problematic. My partner, who followed all the required procedures, was not passed because he and his belay partner climbed a 5.9 route instead of a 5.6. This minor discrepancy, despite performing all other aspects correctly, led to a refusal to pass him. We were also not allowed to retest. We spent almost an hour trying to get a response from management, but were told we couldn’t speak to them directly and were given an email address instead. Despite our efforts, management did not get back to us. Overall, the experience was frustrating and left a negative impression. It’s a shame, as we were really looking forward to climbing at this gym. The lack of flexibility and communication was disappointing and marred what should have been a highlight of our visit.

Expérience négative: Awful experience with their associate Sam. I’m not from Sudbury, although I was visiting for a day and decided to climb at their gym for the second time ever. The first time I was by myself an only bouldered. This time I was with my partner and planned to top rope. We have too-roped at 10+ gyms around the GTA area. From the moment we walked in Sam was extremely strange to us as if he didn’t understand that we were experienced climbers through our casual conversation. Nonetheless the strange part that stood out (BUT it gets worse) is that my partner and I couldn’t belay each other for the test and needed to ask a stranger to be in the test as the climber. I have never experienced this in any of the gyms I have too roped at, but who knows maybe they are trying out a new rule, so we went along with it. HERE’s THE KICKER. Sam directed us to the section of wall we were to climb, little did I know that he was actually testing the specific climb I tied the stranger in on to climb. I tied her in perfectly, no issues, harness was good, ropes were good, knots were good, we were tied in the same rope. I knew what climb she was going to climb, she knew what climb she was going to climb, but Sam said that there was one thing I was missing. After about 5 minutes of looking around clueless double checking everything, he said “oh you were supposed to tie in on this climb next to the one your on, I’ll have to fail you and you can top rope today.” This is absolutely absurd, in all my time as a climber I have never had such an experience. Then as I began asking him to connect me with his manager so I could have a conversation he refused. He went and hid somewhere to call them (or pretend to call them, I don’t know) rather than using the gym phone right and the desk and handling it in front me. I was willing to speak to someone, resolve the issue and climb. However Sam was extremely dodgy, so we had to get a refund. When he hid again to call a manager about a refund code, he came back and said “you can email them about your refund, or I can refund you now” what? I was only visiting for the day so unfortunately we had to miss out on climbing and won’t be back in Sudbury for some time, and I doubt that we’ll come back to ARC Climbing. I will say had a good chat with Beau the first time I visited and he was fantastic and all the other staff and members were lovely. I don’t know what happened with Sam. I’m disappointed.

Expérience fantastique: We had my daughters birthday party here, the staff was really great and they had lots of people to help the kids out! I was also really appreciative for their understanding when we had to cancel the first party at the last minute due to my daughter being sick. Thanks for the great time!

Expérience positive: Nice gym. Clean, spacious, not too busy. There's a couple of autobelays with decent grade variation. Lots of top rope and lead. Good little training area with a Moon board. There's enough bouldering, though, I wouldn't recommend it for beginners. Every gym grades differently of course. My flash boulder level is roughly V3, and I struggled to send most V2's LOL. Other than being humbled by the grading, it's a great place to climb.

Expérience positive: I would give the facilities a 4 star for sure. Excellent climbing, kids love to go. I have deducted a star because there is no airconditioning in the place. With current heat waves my kids couldn't climb ( heat rises) my 17 year old felt like passing out. Had to call it quits. Not sure if this is something they can fix. But we won't be visiting again for a while. Kids are Super bummed.

Expérience fantastique: Was invited to go rock climbing for the first time. Showed up early with my friends, rented gear, and got started right away. Had a total blast, very challenging and rewarding. Gym was clean and the staff member (forgor his name) was extremely knowledgeable and welcoming. The cost was surprisingly low, for full day rental and climbs. Highly recommend

Expérience négative: I went to climb on Dec 30/22 and there was one staff member. She was very short tempered with my son causing him to never want to go back.

Expérience fantastique: Been a few times and I’ve taken my belaying course here. Staff is friendly and helpful. Climbing is great. Gym is clean. Only thing I can say is I think they should start a store here so there’s somewhere in Sudbury to buy gear.

Expérience fantastique: I've never been rock climbing/bouldering before coming here and now I'm hooked. The facility is bright, clean and the climate control is excellent. Friendly staff will greet you as you come and go, and the prices are reasonable for their classes. I have yet to try their fitness or yoga classes, but after the experience I've had climbing, I have no doubt it will be top notch.

Tout de même, ARC offre un assez grand mur avec 2 ou 3 voies par V. Le personnel est très sympathique. À essayer!

Expérience positive: Visits: 2 Cost: I don't remember I suppose when the next-closest gym is several hours of driving away, you might expect the maintenance to be a bit careless. But, amazingly, the gym is in great condition and the climbing is much better than what you might otherwise expect. It's a bit small, and the bouldering and the lead sort of lacks interesting features, but everything they try to do they do really, really well. The setting is quite good while it trends towards intermediate-level climbing. I get the feeling that they work really hard with what they've got. It's absolutely worth a stop to get some exercise if you're driving across the country - worth a stop if you live in Sudbury too!!

Expérience fantastique: Never had a bad experience. We come every couple weeks and the staff has been pleasant and helpful, the gym clean, and have made suggestions that helped save us money! The new routes and various skill levels has made each visit unique and keeps us coming back.

I did some bouldering and tried the hot power flow yoga class with Ray - one of the most challenging classes I’ve done in a while (in a good way!). Left feeling sweaty and invigorated. Expérience positive: Came here awhile ago, but forgot to write a review. My girlfriend and I climbed here a few a times and also participated in their hot yoga class. The customer service was very welcoming and helped us with any of our questions. The climbs were diverse and had a good range for beginner ands intermediate. The Yoga instructor for the evening hot Yoga was great as well !

Expérience positive: Definitely an amazing place. ARC was one of the highlights of our short trip to Sudbury. If offers a lot of variety, and is a very clean, modern, and sharp looking facility. My kids had a blast. The reason I gave it only 4 stars instead of 5 was because there were only 5 Auto Belays. My kids quickly climbed all 5 several times. If there were even a a few more Auto Belays, I think the customer experience would be that much better.

Once you have had your share of climbing inside, make sure you go with a group to climb outside (when the weather permits..that is.. ☺) Hot yoga classes are excellent way to increase your flexibility and don't forget to warm up before climbing by making use of the training area provided in the NW side of the facility. There are ample change rooms, washrooms for both sexes and a wheel chair accessible washroom as well! A water fountain is provided to encourage use of environmentally friendly ways to stay hydrated! Ample parking spaces are available at the front and back of the facility! Overall, a great, well thought out facility for spending time indoors during any time of the season!
