Expérience fantastique: Really a top notch gym. Tons of equipment, and I rarely have to wait to use something. Really clean, friendly staff, and great gym culture which was not Intimidating at all. I love the stretch room too where you can do floor workouts.

Expérience fantastique: Bart is the most amazing gym owner, and Eva is best second hand ever. They ensure eve try machine is running smoothly and fixed right away if anything goes wrong, and makes an effort to know every member of the gym. It's such a personable and enjoyable place to workout, and I would never go back to a big corp gym after how nice it's been. Bart has undeniably been the best owner of that space, and as someone who has gone to gym's in that location over the years- the difference is astronomical!! 10/10 recommend.

Expérience fantastique: A lovely little gym with great resources and an amazing staff at hand. Eva is so very helpful and will give you her all with a personalized plan, attainable goals and great motivation. You have to check this place out. You won't be sorry!

Expérience fantastique: Came into town for a day, needed a gym and called Harbour City. Eva was helpful, got me in with minimal stress, showed me what I needed to see, so I could get to my lift and destress. Was very pleased with the facility, equipment and staff. Hidden gem, as far as I am concerned! I was grateful it wasn't too busy while I was there, but this place should be humming, IMO:). Keep up the good work and I will keep your business in mind when I come through again. Thank you!

Expérience fantastique: Excellent equipment! Nearly everything is serious gym goer need! I come to Nanaimo periodically and I like the gym enough to set up a monthly membership. It’s worth it in my opinion :) They have hack squats, numerous barbell set ups, dead lift machine, hip thrust machine , etc. etc. etc. My only suggestions would be to add Wi-Fi and have slightly better lighting.

Expérience fantastique: My favourite gym in Nanaimo by far! There is a ladies only section upstairs that has everything you need. All the ladies upstairs are very friendly, it’s a judgement free zone that welcomes everyone.

Expérience négative: The owner Bart likes to make the rules up as he goes…. I read the policys and guidelines laid out on paper on the front desk , was very respectful towards others did not break the policy’s laid out,.. yet apparently me doing what every other person does in there ..is not okay when I did what every one else did be respectful and follow the rules… Clearly only the rules bart makes up that day I went there twice excited to go more but both experiences were completely terrible, I go to the gym for a safe escape and harbour definitely is not it for me

Everyone's friendly, Eva and staff are genuinely interested in everyone and if they don't have your name stashed in their brains friends list, it will be shortly.I've recommended this gym to anyone who asks.

Expérience fantastique: Absolutely LOVE this place!! Over the past year it's become an integral aspect of my health journey and lifestyle. I've slowly become acquainted with other members over the past year and really appreciate the community The owner of the gym is meticulous and works hard to ensure the place is clean and well organized! He constantly reorganizes the layout to improve the flow of movement and space, which I definitely appreciate! There's a bag room with two punching bags, a BOB, and a speed bag - you'll need to bring your own gloves to use this space though There's a separate ladies only training area upstairs, a private tanning room and an infrared sauna - the last two of which you can purchase packages to use Men's and ladies changing areas, with lockers Separate stretch room and a smaller area with dumbbells, two benches and a cable machine if you need a quieter space. Lots of treadmills, a couple of rowing machines, bikes and steppers too. Fans all around to make it tolerable in the summer. Small selection of supplements and clothing also available for sale. Monthly cost of membership is probably higher than some of the corporate owned gyms out there, but for me it's worth coming here for many reasons including supporting a local small business, and especially that it's open 5am -11pm 7 days a week with FOB key entry Overall a great place to workout, come see for yourself

Expérience positive: Decent gym. Nothing fancy. The women's section upstairs has gotten some nice improvements. Any equipment that breaks down usually gets repaired in a timely manner. Something about the building seems to kill my cell signal, and there's no wifi, so I'd recommend downloading music before you start your workout.

The equipment is clean, well maintained, and bountiful. It's nice to see an owner that is present and part of the overall energy of the business. Highly recommend HCF over other gyms in Nanaimo.

Expérience négative: I probably be giving my notice up in May. This 1 star is for Susan. Will never work out on a Saturday again. Was working out and these 2 gentlemen, there voices were getting really loud. It was hard to concentrate. I have mild brain injury so it was hard to focus with the noise. I told them to lower voices. They basically told me it was a public place so they could do whatever they wanted. I mentioned it to Susan and she ignored me. These gentlemen had me in tears. I went upstairs. I mentioned this to a sweet young lady. She was going to talk to staff about this. I probably won't be going to gym this week because I don't do well when I am verbally talked to. They have only been coming 3 months. I am not feeling safe to come to the gym right now. I joined the gym because it was quiet. This gym is really not the right gym for these gentlemen.

Expérience fantastique: I’ve been going to this gym for years now, when he was at the old location and now the new. Nothing compares to not only the equipment, the size of the gym but the quality of people that go to this gym. The hours the gym is open can work for most schedules, cleanliness is top notch, I rarely see equipment out of order (he has multiples of most equipment), and there’s an incredible dog named Eva in the mornings who always makes the start to my day amazing. There’s also a women’s only which can be a nice escape at times. Best gym, privately owned and the owner is dedicated to keeping it a positive and inclusive environment. Thanks Bart and staff for creating such an amazing space to achieve goals and stay healthy <3

Expérience fantastique: From my 40 years of training, I totally recommend joining Harbour City Fitness to achieve your goals. A welcoming atmosphere with excellent equipment (lots of it!). I find Bart really cares about the strong warm social environment that he has worked so hard at creating. It is comforting to see he doesn't accept any form of disrespect or "intimating behavior" in this fitness facility and promptly addresses it. Family owned makes a difference like home cooking; A pleasant slice of good etiquette layered with integrity that leaves a good taste; quite palatable. My hats off to you Bart!

Expérience fantastique: Throughout the many years of going to different gyms, Harbour city is by far my favourite. The staff and cliental is beyond friendly with so much knowledge and ready to assist at any time. The establishment is kept well cleaned at all times and there is so much equipment to work with, so on that hand there is never any wait times for equipment. I don’t feel this place is a “business” I feel like it is a family that all share the same home. Truly such an amazing place .

Expérience positive: This is my first experience with being part of a gym and I have to say, I love Harbour City Fitness! No need to wait for equipment and all is kept so clean and well maintained. Eva and Bert are so friendly and will go out of their way to make you feel at home. It was amazing how Eva took the time to make sure everything went smoothly when I came in on my first workout after she had gone home for the day. Plus I absolutely love the long hours that they are open. It fits my schedule to a T. I just love my workout time there!

Expérience positive: This gym is a well kept secret! A large variety of equipment that is well maintained and very clean. Unlike other gyms in town the staff are friendly and actually acknowledge you when you walk in. The clientele are down to earth....I have yet to see someone with a tripod filming their workout or people taking excessive selfies:) Although the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming I highly recommend this gym for people who just wanna work out without the social aspect. 4 stars only because there is no wifi although this is easy enough to work around.

Expérience fantastique: Great open massive gym. Has all the equipment you could ever ask for. The Place is clean and the staff are great. Bart, the owner goes out of his way to make you feel comfortable and answer any questions you may have. Best gym in Nanaimo hands down.

They have everything here from free weights to all the machines and even tanning. A great find for those of you who are looking for a gym you have to try Harbour City.

Expérience fantastique: When I stay in Nainamo for work this is the gym I always go to. Nice plate loaded and pin equipment, real squat rack and one of the nicest bench press i have ever benched on. Lots of cardio equipment if that's what your into. Has all the stuff a hard core gym would have but very clean like a commercial gym. Drop in Rate is a little pricey at 11$ but It's worth it to me.

Expérience fantastique: With out a doubt the gym is the cleanest I have been in. Equipment is well maintained, never need to wait during your workout as gym is well supplied with workout equipment. Bart, Eva and staff friendly as well as professional. Highly recommend. To add to gym there is a Ladies Only workout area.

Expérience fantastique: I use this gym daily when I'm in Nanaimo. The owner and staff are very friendly and inviting. It is a family gym, i.e. great for all types of people. Everything is clean, the equipment is up to date, and there is a lot of it.

Expérience négative: I came here a month and a half ago as a drop-in because my anxiety was so bad at my smaller gym. Now I moved from drop in to 1 month and in Jan will get a reg membership. Its huge, so much equipment. So much room to move around. My anxiety will always stress me out but at least I can function there. Shaina is one of the reasons I will buy a 1 year. So nice, so helpful which is very important to someone like me with issues. She has made me feel so so welcomed. UPDATE: I still give Shaina and the senior woman 5 stars for being so nice to me and the equipment and most of the people (although I have not seen the new location) for being first rate but in Aug the owner decided he would try and charge Veterans Affairs double the drop in rate ($30) for my support worker who I need to help me function with my bad C-PTSD. Im a vet. Veterans Affairs would not pay that outlandish rate so I was no longer able to come to the gym. The owners attitude was that as long as my support worker wanted to hold what he called "life coaching sessions" with me I should find another gym. I have since found another gym where the manager does not even charge my support worker a drop in fee as she is ONLY there to support me to ensure I dont get over stimulated/over whelmed leading to a PTSD trigger and possible melt down. Shania knew how to watch out for my issues as well. She is a gem. The owner displayed a disrespectful attitude towards a military vet with serious mental health issues. Im considering a BC Human Rights complaint against him for violating my rights as a vet with serious MH issues and seeking damages. Now I have to drive much further to a gym much smaller with much less equipment when I liked the equipment at HCF. It took me 2 months to find another gym I could handle and that caused me a significant amount of emotional distress.

Expérience fantastique: I agree with previous review. It's not a "show-off" type gym. A great gym if you're introverted type like myself. Everybody just minds their own business here. Other gyms can make you feel intimated. A lot of "average" folks here. A spacious and clean gym. P.S. - early mornings is the best time to go.

Expérience fantastique: Best gym in Nanaimo, hands down! The owner/operator aswell as part time staff are kind, caring and integral. The facility itself is docile and soothing for me as an introvert as its usually quiet and frequented by a similar, respectable demographic. If you are not one for vanity and ego driven gym environments, I highly recommend this one!

Tried out 2 other gyms before I found Harbour City and I signed up the next day after a drop-in. Lots of space and machines, its never crowded. The only downside is no wifi. Very clean and the hours are good. Best gym if you live closer to downtown!!

Expérience positive: I was a member here for almost 2 years, for the price it isn't great value. Members feel like they aren't always treated well and staff are hit or miss, one particular front desk woman made the whole experience really miserable and unpleasant. The gym itself is nice and roomy with lots of great equipment. No classes or extras for the monthly fee but that was fine for me personally. I actually loved the gym, the hours aren't great and like I said, the blonde haired older lady was really miserable and made the experience suck.
