YMCA of Eastern Ontario, Kingston YMCA: Avis
Expérience négative: Mistreatment
Expérience fantastique: We have belonged to the YMCA in one way or another for years. My youngest went to the daycare at Wright Cres until he started school this year, and we could not have asked for a better place. They were kind, welcoming and we had full faith that he was well taken care of there. The staff were always engaging with the kids and their safety, happiness and well being was clearly always a top priority. The staff always communicated anything we needed to know and made any adjusts needed to help his transition from home daycare to a centre. I would recommend the YMCA childcare centre to everyone.
Expérience fantastique: The Y is a wonderful facility to be a member of. It provides a great sense of community. There are a wide variety of classes and the instructors are excellent. I have met many great people here. I highly recommend giving the Y a try!
Expérience négative: I strongly suggest against enrolling your children in the daycare centre at this location. The experience at YMCA Wright Crescent has been thoroughly negative, and I lament ever enrolling my child in their program. Staff members seem to act with impunity, and lack the necessary skills to ensure that children are appropriately safe and cared for while Management willingly engages in unprofessional communication and actively seeks to excuse insufficient practices while gaslighting parental concerns that are raised about the experience of their children. If you are considering enrolling your child at this location I urge you to consider EVERY possible alternative before paying money to have your children receive the bare minimum of care that staff are required to provide. If you have chosen to enroll your children I highly recommend that you insist on specific staff members whose skills and professionalism have been a small positive outcome from a predominantly negative experience. I recommend you trust your instincts about the staffing issues this location faces as a result of their standard operating methods, and do not allow yourself to be fooled by the lies Management has fabricated to obfuscate the truth.
Expérience négative: i got harassed in the lap lane during public swimming hours. wish i joking, not to mention i have a lot of gym anxiety:) did the staff do anything about my report- absolutely not lol so i cancelled my membership
Expérience fantastique: I’m enjoying the therapeutic pool, and finding a welcoming and positive atmosphere early in the morning! The cafeteria is great! Good to get out! Positive vibes
Expérience négative: Workers rude, website said it was open swim then when we got there they said the pool was closed for members. Complete waste of time. When we tried to play basketball we were kicked out because we didn’t have “proper footwear” (basketball shoes)
Expérience négative: The parking here is just phenomenal Why doesn’t the YMCA have swipe gates to use certain sections of the gym? You pay $84/ month for everything? Not everyone uses the pool, not everyone uses your classes and not everyone uses your personal trainers.. I’ve been to numerous YMCA’s outside of Kingston that does this exact same thing! That way you’re only paying for what you use! The swipe gates would allow people who have paid for certain things at this facility to be the only ones who could go through the gates!
Expérience négative: Zero
Expérience négative: Zero
Expérience fantastique: Very good
Expérience négative: So bad
Expérience négative: Front door kid is rude and arrogant. Not a friendly environment.
Expérience positive: I am disappointed to see the reduced number of hand sanitizer stations in the gym since new equipment was purchased. In total there are only 4 and 2 of those are always empty. There should be hand sanitizer at every paper towel station. I brought this to the attention of front desk staff who did nothing about it.
Expérience fantastique: Inclusive across individuals and the entire community, compassionate, supportive and accessible.
Expérience fantastique: Great amenities for only 60$ A month
Expérience négative: Center is dirty and equipment is old and very limited for women and those who are not looking to heavy lift.
Expérience fantastique: Excellent reception. Aquatics instructor was fun and skilled. Friendly people.
Expérience négative: Smelly and machines are not cleaned enough showers look dirty expensive would’ve gave a zero but had to give it at least a 1
Expérience négative: Had to cancel membership on June 2nd and was told not getting refund for June because I didn't give them 15 days notice. I didn't know I was going to have to cancel and was not told about that policy. They cheat you like that, get your money and you don't use the facility.
Expérience négative: I am not happy with the Director of this YMCA in Kingston, Ontario.. the Director at this YMCA was discriminating against my 10-year-old autistic daughter for sitting down on her tablet. A lot of children go into this gym to work out and just because my daughter has autism, the Director seem to be targeting us, then the other children in the gym. Not sure if it was due to our race being Latinos or because of my daughter having autism.. I don’t recommend this YMCA to no one. I I read over the YMCAs gym, etiquette rules, and what this woman did to my family is wrong.. nowhere on the list. It does not mention anything about tablets.. and if anyone ever reads over the list it is very stupid. Especially rules number seven people go to work out not socialize and make friends.. it’s not right that an employee who is having a bad day, could pick on a family and kick them out from doing their workouts. The directors just a regular employee on minimum wage not the owner. She has no right to discriminate against people and their disabilities at the gym. It’s not family friendly.. I also find the YMCA to be a dirty place I’ve seen people using the machines and not cleaning them after use. The women’s locker room is dirty and parents don’t watch their children. Last time I was in the locker room shower an eight year old boy opened up the shower curtain while I was in the shower. I definitely find this to be the worst gym in Kingston.
Expérience négative: Lots of people occupying gym equipment for long periods of time while playing on their phones. Also, lots of unattended children playing on gym equipment, which is frustrating for adults who want to use the gym equipment for its intended purpose. I've brought these concerns to the attention of the Y's management, which appear to have gone nowhere. I love this Y for its location as I live right next door. However, if there was another gym nearby which serves adults actually interested in working out then I would go there instead.
Expérience négative: I enrolled my daughter in a summer camp. She was going to the YMCA for one week and another summer camp for the next week. While at the summer camp, she fell and broke her elbow, requiring surgery. Despite informing them about the situation five days in advance, they said it was too late for a refund. During her time at the summer camp, she went to the pool on Monday and Wednesday, and her hair remained wet until the end of the camp day in the gym. They also had their meals on the floor in the gym. It's not a healthy and comfortable place in any way. I will never go to that place again, even though I have a yearly membership there.
Expérience fantastique: ️
Expérience positive: Decent pool, some gorgeous hunks lifeguarding +1 star
Expérience fantastique: I like the leisure pool and the aqua fit in the lap pool. The coffee and crackers are cheap!
Expérience fantastique: 07/27/2022 recent experience here the reception people were so nice and great! will always be my #1 gym
Expérience fantastique: I love the YMCA. I use the gym almost everyday. the trainers are easy to talk to and you can always ask any question on how something works you don't need a private session for that :P. I have had a private trainer session and i do recommend it for beginners just to learn the basics and proper form. I am a student at St Lawrence college to I use the ymca on campus as well. I love the YMCA and all of there hardworking staff. :D
Expérience fantastique: Jamie Darragh : There are automated systems that charge credit cards I would assume. If they could have stopped it I am sure they would have. You said you had not been there in over a month. If you have not been to your apartment in over a month do you have to pay rent after the first still?......Yes you do! I love the YMCA. I get the chance to talk with people from all walks of life when I am there. All while staying fit. Old, Young, Black, White, and Brown, doesn't matter. I am sorry you had a bad experience at the YMCA Kingston. But Judging by your aggressive post I am pretty sure you were not innocent in the situation. Wishing You All The Best, Adrian McNeil P.S Please fix the water fountain by the stationary bikes. It's a Dribbler. :-)
Expérience fantastique: I have two children that attend the before and after school care programs. I have found the staff and programming to be excellent. The YMCA is an excellent provider of daycare and I've recommended them to others I know. As a parent it's traffic to be able to drop your child off and know they are going to receive top notch care in a positive environment anchored by staff who really care.
Expérience fantastique: I love the YMCA in Kingston! I have been a member for more than 5 years and I work out 4-5 days a week at this gym. I find it clean and reasonably priced, and the staff are great! I would highly recommend it to anyone!
Expérience positive: I like the YMCA, I think it's a good building with good programs. What I take issue with at present is the very restricted hours they are open right now. Makes it much more effort to try and g t a workout in the evening because I have to rush straight from work to even get a full hour on the floor. Similar story on the weekends since they close at 3pm.
Expérience négative: Customer service informed me wrong information regards my bills and charged my cousin when I added him tothe same membership in addition to my regular monthly payments although I asked them before I added him.
Expérience positive: A little on the pricey side, but it does have plenty to offer. Cardio, two pools and a weight-room. Not necessarily the best weight-room in town but you can still get the job done here. Also the only gym with working saunas. Free parking with overflow parking available just up the block at the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Expérience fantastique: Great daycare services! My 10 month old daughter loves her educators and makes progress everyday. I also like the fact that they have an app and keep you virtually updated.
Expérience fantastique: The Y is an amazing place to work out! Have been a member for 20 years and would pick it over any other Fitness facility in Kingston. Great community supporter.
Expérience positive: Great gym. Friendly environment
Expérience négative: The life guards at this place for the most part are alright. But the ignorant and rude ones like zach ruin it for everyone.
Expérience négative: If you want to feel berrated, belittled and like a piece of meat by their male trainer. This is the place to be. Be weary of their unlabelled equipment, unknown rules and fitness manager who likes to sit in the office and watch the mess around. I have never felt so bullied in my life. Shy, unconfrontational people are constantly repremanded for breaking rules that are not posted. Speak up, and it becomes worse. I used to love this gym, its environment and the way it made me feel. Now. Its the cause of anxiety and it won't be seeing my money or loyalty.
Expérience négative: This gym closes at 11pm, at 10:20pm february 11, my wife was in the change room coming in from the showers and one of the female janitors was acting intimidatingly and aggressively with my wife was taking her bag out of the locker and the janitor came and slammed the locker door nearly hitting my wife was frightened and shocked and began walking out of the change room at the same time the female janitor was moping the floor right behind her feet following my wife cursing under her breath as she walked out. All these just days after I made the membership, will be in their in the morning to see why this employee was harassing my wife . Absolutely absurd behaviour.
Expérience négative: Very disappointed with the YMCA. They came and bought a community meeting place (gym and pool). Called it YMCA West. (It used to be Progress for many years) They sold the property and left the community without a community meeting place. Leaving the community is fine but taking away a community's gathering place is not! The pool was used for lessons for children as well as for fitness for adults and seniors. Closing one location (Y West) and leaving the other location open not fair to members who joined to work out at the West location. We all pay the same dues. We were told the West location was losing money. The former owner ran it cleaner, kept equipment working and listened to his members. I only stayed when the Y bought the gym because I thought the Y supported our communitythe have had much better experiences with the YMCA in other places. Disappointed in this one.
Expérience fantastique: I got a membership here with my tuition from St. Lawrence College, and I have to say its absolutely worth it. They keep cleaning solution and towels everywhere so you can clean properly, there are nice water fountains and a cafe, and its relatively quiet. I'm not the most fit person in the world, but I really felt comfortable here. A friend and I went to work out together, and we had an amazing time too!
Expérience fantastique: Great gym for everyone
Expérience fantastique: Yeet.
Expérience négative: Very poorly maintained by the staff equipment always goes missing and full of people that don't know what they are doing also expensive
Expérience négative: Rented a room and hsd a swim for my sons 10th birthday. First thing I had to pay 4 dollars for my 4 month old to swim not even hslf price which is insane!. Alsk we were not allowed into the room until exactly 2:30 not a minute sooner unless you wanted to pay another 20-40 dollars the room wasnt even in use! When we got into the room the ceiling was leaking and one of ghe birthday party children found a large screw on the bottom of the pool. Very unhappy im a single mom with limited funds trying to have an awesome party for my guy. Will NEVER DO IT AGAIN!
Expérience fantastique: I feel I have to send kudos out to a lifeguard named Ashley. On this morning, Monday, May 7, 2018 our illustrious instructor Tiffany Langille was running a tad late (not like our Ms. Tiffany at all). Ms. Ashley informed us of this delay and put some music on for the class to exercise to. I asked her if she could instruct us and lo and behold turns out she does in fact instruct classes at "Y" West, how fortunate for us. We talked her into instructing our class until Tiffany showed up, needless to say Ms. Ashley did a wonderful job and we were so thankful for her guidance. We suggested she try and get a shift with the 7:00 a.m. class, we enjoyed her enthusiasm very much. Well done Ashley, I'm hoping your supervisor sees this and gives you a great pat on the back. *hugs*
Expérience fantastique: This pool in Kingston is great..has a ramp going into pool ...worm pool and cold pool .really nice
Expérience fantastique: Good Karma... so sometimes it is the small stuff that makes you feel there is balance in the world. Example: last week I noticed my Y ID card missing from my keychain. I promptly called the Y to let them know and I was feeling anxious as I never lose anything. I popped in this morning to get a new card and someone had returned my card the very same day it went missing. Taking it to the next level the Y staff member who rec'd my missing card noticed the bad shape it was in and had a sparkling new one ready. Sounds small but this example shows how important it is if we all take those small steps in anything have an impact in making a situation right. Sending a big thank you to the person who turned the card in and also the that smiling face I see when I go to the Y. You know who you are :) thank you
Expérience fantastique: Nice place for sport, fitness, swimming
Expérience fantastique: It's a amazing place
Expérience fantastique: Such a great gym. Equipment is clean, always in relative good condition. Staff is friendly, always with a smile. The only thing I would change would be to increase the size of the locker room but I know that space is limited. Would recommend this gym to everyone.
Expérience fantastique: very good staff and environment
Expérience fantastique: Great facility and staff.
Expérience fantastique: Love this place!! Very friendly and fun and pool is the best part ! Great place!!
Expérience positive: Very good. I forgot my squash racket. They provided one at no cost.
Expérience négative: My son attends their Bayridge Summer Rec camp; not impressed. No field trips (fun& exciting like others are--movies, trampoline parks, etc), they only go swimming once a week for one hour only....I would be more than willing to pay extra for these things, if it means my kid has fun. Too much free time...I've spoken with a few other parents, all of us have miserable children. My son has been whining and nearly in tears as a result of having to attend this camp. No crafts, no special events...my son Attended last year--same things planned this year as last year. Awful experience and will be putting him elsewhere in 2018. Others will be as well. I made a complaint during the school year about the free time (same stuff occurs in the school program too) as they state they have all sorts of planned activities...ummm no. If I pick my son up at 4 or 5, they are always running wild either outside or in the gym. I used to coordinate a summer camp for the City of Windsor. Our kids were tired by 4:30, some sleeping on gym mats waiting for their parents....we had constant programming from 9-4:30 Mon-Friday and all hours were planned. We did a variety of activities, swam for 2 hrs every Friday....our field trips consisted of bowling, movies, zoos, national parks, and all the parents were willing to pay 10-15 extra to cover costs. When we lived in Brantford, the summer camp there was the best experience ever....it was at a wAter park but the field trips were amazing - Toronto Blue jays game, Marineland, Trampoline park...all parents paid extra to cover the costs...to come from that to going to the KRock centre week after week to ply soccer...really? You hear the kids complaining me the leaders say "stop complaining or just go elsewhere" ...nice...You need to hire creative, fresh staff who are willing to get their hands dirty, put on talent shows, play dodge ball, create scavenger hunts, do fun crafts...make it fun. Trust me, bring your kid(s) elsewhere. This camp is also expensive but you are just paying for babysitters to stand around in groups and watch the kids from a distance. Kids can't use school playground equipment as the Y refuses to get insurance. So bad....worst camp ever. I think we will do Boys N Girls next year.
Expérience négative: Very old and in need of updating. Pool liner is rumpled and uncomfortable on the feet. Drinking fountain still does not work. Staff are friendly and helpful. Prices for drop-in swim and classes are very high.
Expérience fantastique: Excellent place to be, working out or swimming. Staff are great.
Expérience fantastique: Grat place to exercise and has cafeteria in it to have coffee and snacks. Clean and quite place.
Expérience fantastique: Friendly staff, convenient hours, and a great pool!
Expérience fantastique: Always welcoming. Great programs.
Expérience fantastique: Family change room available, leisure pool with zero entry, fully accessible.
Expérience fantastique: Great place to come and workout, swim, play some sports and generally chill.
Expérience fantastique: Family change room available, leisure pool with zero entry, fully accessible.
Expérience fantastique: I love the ymca because a went thare for day care when I was litek we go swimming a lot go and play basketball and that is wi I like the ymca
Expérience fantastique: Great time for any fitness or sports. Such an amazing hard working staff with such great customer service, all needs are met and you leave in a good mood every time☺
Expérience fantastique: Good facilities
Expérience négative: The YMCA in Kingston is the worst gym in Kingston. It is defiantly not a family friendly facility. Not only does it have perverts staring at you as you exercise but I went in to cancel my gym membership because I just found out I am pregnant and this is what happened. just because it wasn't the 1st they are still going to charge me even thou I haven't been there for over a month and they don't charge my credit card until the 15th , I find it immoral that they can't call my bank and stop it before the 15th .. like they have 10 days . The YMCA in Kingston is a JOKE . Oh and Valery the lady that works there is very rude and called me a lier to my face when I tried to explain that they never properly explained anything to me when I joined up .
