Expérience fantastique: First time dropping in for the day and the ATM was down. Instead of turning us away or only accepting cash the staff told us to have fun and that they might give us a call or text later to grab payment info. That level of friendly welcoming and trusting behavior in customer service is rare to find these days. Loved the layout of the facility. It was clean and well organized for the climbing, merch area and so on. Only the narrow middle climbing section was a bit awkward where to stand while others were climbing but fun nevertheless.

Expérience positive: Very friendly and accomadating staff. And a somewhat accomadating facility. It is quite large with a neat somewhat open layout. Washrooms are present, and just slightly confusing to go to. And speakers could be improved. Though, my biggest turn off is that this a bouldering only facility. I arrived here for the 1st time around Tuesday March 19 2024. And hoped/expected there to be top roping. And was disappointed to go to to my 6th climbing facility and it be my 1st to not have any top roping. To those that do not know. That means, no belaying with a partner or auto belaying. Although I have enjoyed some other climbing facilities much more due to preferences. Including the Gneiss Hill Security. I appreciate that this place is in operation, and can imagine many a person giving this place 5 stars. Any place like this can be great to keep kids out of mischief, bring someone on a date, or be a great exercise routine. Happy climbing! :)

Expérience fantastique: I love Gneiss. They provide a very affordable membership which grants you access to both of their climbing gyms and their stimulating bouldering problems, as well as a small section of TR and autobelay climbs at the Hill Security location. If climbing isn't your thing, you can exercise in the gyms' well-equipped workout rooms, or you can just get a delicious, barrista-style cup of joe and a tasty snack from the front desk. You can also buy climbing gear, including shoes, at either location; they also carry their own line of Gneiss apparel that is better than anything you'll find at MEC. The hours are great, and each location opens at 6 AM on a different day of the week, so the early morning, pre-work crowd can still get two quality climbs in during the week. Finally, the Hill Security location boasts showers for your post workout needs, so you have no excuse to smell like a filthy pig after your session. Gneiss is about more than its facilities, however. There's a wonderful sense of community in the gyms that has been fostered by Chris, the owner, and is exemplified in every member of the staff. You won't meet nicer, more thoughtful or more helpful staff at any other gym. It clearly has a ripple effect on the clientele, because every climber I've met has been friendly and courteous. People don't spray beta. Do you feel like every climbing gym you've visited has been a climbing gym house, but you've been looking for a climbing gym home? Then look no further. Gneiss is the climbing gym for you.

Expérience négative: Very small both height and sqft. We've been rock climbing before but never to a place like this. Felt more like a gym and hangout spot than somewhere to have fun or a night out. Overcrowded feels like your in the way of the regulars. Quite expensive I thought for the twilight session considering it's only 1.5 hours. Most of which you'd have to wait for your turn. We left after 12 minutes as we went for a fun night out not a workout session in a hangout spot. I would definitely not recommend to beginners and especially not kids. Disappointing but I'm sure some people would like it.

Expérience fantastique: Update October 2022: Friendly staff, good setting, fun other climbers, and I finally noticed that this location is open one day a week for 6am climbing for us early birds. Update, July 2022: Still amazing setting, great vibes, and support friendly staff!! Checked out the training area upstairs, lots of barbell and weights compared to the average climbing gym (dumbbells up to 100lb), so strong guys can certainly do their off the wall training here. ---- Friendly environment & well set bouldering on a couple walls. Quick to respond on social media.

As someone who was looking to get into rock climbing with little to no experience 6 months ago, I must say Gneiss made my learning process incredibly easy. For one, the staff are super friendly and helpful. The community of people there have been extremely welcoming. Not only was I receiving coaching from other members, but I made enough friends to go bouldering outdoors on a consistent basis within a couple months. Gneiss has new problems on a weekly basis that have an excellent range of difficulty and variance in climbing styles allowing you to become a better climber. Gneiss caters towards both beginners and very high-level climbers with their routes. It is incredibly obvious that the route setting aspect of customer service is very important to the owners. I think that this small business does a fantastic job of navigating the difficulty of managing a small operation whilst providing an excellent service. I have never heard anyone who is in Gneiss, complain about the facility. I think that speaks volumes of the management and the owners. If you are in Kelowna, looking to get strong and send some sweet problems look no further, Gneiss has you covered.
