Crunch Fitness - Upper Centennial: Avis
Expérience négative: Was a member at the Upper Centennial location for about 8 months. Staff very friendly, and other members courteous. Major downside for me was the lack of maintenance and how dirty the gym actually is. There have been holes and drywall patches in the men’s room the entire time I was there. An easy repair that’s not look after. In my opinion, small things reflect the bigger picture. My comments here reflect this location specifically as other Crunch gyms are seemingly in much better condition. I’ve moved to another brand of gym, closer to home that is much cleaner.
Expérience positive: Wish I enjoyed this location more, alot of decent equipment and atmosphere.. but too many kids horsing around with the equipment and guys in their cars in the parking lot holding up their phones to where the back of the treadmills are facing.. Uncomfortable
Expérience négative: If I could give zero stars I would! This company is a scam! They will scam you and lie to you! A couple years ago my location at Fruitland closed down and they never informed any of us! I had to find out by going to my workout and saw a sign on the door saying they are closed permanently! I thought my membership would be canceled since I was only paying for one location, I was wrong. I was being charged for a couple of months. I called another location and the girl on the phone told me she can cancel it over the phone. Couple months later I was still being charged. I proceeded to call back and the receptionist said the same thing that they can cancel over the phone. At this point I didn’t think twice because my credit card also expired so I figured it was properly cancelled and had no way to double check. I was wrong, two years later I’m getting harassed that I owe them $200. I called back to question it and explain my side, the receptionist told me she didn’t know the answer and a manager will call me back. No one called me back. Keep in mind crunch does not have a line you can call for customer service, I had to call a location! I stopped getting emails, but a month ago I get an email from collections. Now this stupid company is affecting my credit score for something that is their fault. I am extremely disappointed in their service and would never recommend this gym! To make things worse, I recently called just to see if members can cancel over the phone and they still said YES!! This company needs to do better! I have been at Fit4less for two years now and I’m loving it! They are so caring and much cheaper!! Crunch just wants to take peoples money and ruin credit scores for no reason!
Expérience positive: Nice gym! Good amount of room, and friendly staff.
Expérience négative: We just went into crunch with my girlfriend and her younger brother who was under 18 and we tried to get a day pass for him but the lady at the front desk told us we could only buy him a membership not a day pass and I couldn’t find anything about that on the crunch official website. She was off putting rude and unhelpful, whereas her peer was very apologetic and kind. This crunch is terrible don’t go here
Expérience fantastique: Awesome place to workout with great equipment. And the pretty huge facility to accommodate the rush hour as well.
Expérience négative: Advised them over phone I need to cancel, told me someone had to come in as they cannot process over the phone or email (later found out it is a deliberate lie to make it difficult to cancel) so I sent my then girlfriend. It took two times, the first time they "downgraded" and I noticed a bill a month later, and asked her if she has time to go back to fix it which they ended up just "Freezing". They actually bullied her into signing a contract in my name, and authorizing my credit card and have been trying to bill me ever since. Third time and 7 months just to cancel a membership. Crunch fitness is a terribly run business, awful management with 0 empathy. Times are tough and we have a young daughter - burning money because your business tries it's best to not let you cancel and squeeze out as much as you can.
Expérience positive: I am writing an update on this location as it's been a few years prior to covid when I last wrote one. Front desk continues to be very very friendly and helpful but I find that they need to find that classes can be quite packed and there's no system to ask members who have not signed up for classes not to enter. I find that the group fitness coordinator to be very professional and support approachable. She's made it clear in a very kind manner that it's important for members to check in and to be aware of the importance of being on time for classes. Sadly something is failing and perhaps corporate needs to work on finding a way that only members signed up can be less frustrated with stragglers who pop in late to attend classes or aren't signed up. I've been a member for over a decade and have watched new management come in and out of this location, the Stone Church location as well as the Ancaster location. THIS specific location seems to have the most unapproachable manager. I didn't even know he was the manager until I asked. I actually see him sitting at the front desk but either interacts with clientele because he is forced to or he doesn't interact at all. He definitely picks and chooses who he speaks to. My personal interaction with him was once in the years that he has been here and it was because it was forced. Not very impressed. As for classes, there is a huge variety of choice, but you need to come in early and be signed up in order to get a spot.
Expérience positive: A clean and fun environment with friendly and competent workers! A little busy from time to time, but Rossana and Anna keep things running smoothly at check in!
Expérience fantastique: The team at crunch is fantastic. They are always friendly and helpful. My personal trainer David is very knowledgeable and I enjoy working out with him.
Expérience positive: had issues with my account and was getting the run around with with the crunch fitness I was dealing with when I was on the road for work. came directly to this crunch location and Ashley very quickly solved my issues for me. great customer service!
Expérience fantastique: Vince is a great dude. Great staff and facility.
Expérience négative: Inside of locker room, it′s so dirty, management is neglecting to clean. If you look over the lockers , so much dust , you don't want to breathe in there. Compare to other location, this is the worst location
Expérience négative: This company closed their doors without notice in lower Stoney Creek. 3 years later they send a collection agency after clients for unpaid membership fees?? Do yourself a favour and stay away from this sham of a company!! I know the standard B.S. response will be given to this review, but you have been warned.
Expérience fantastique: My trainer Carter has completely changed the way I view working out. He has taught me that consistency is key and I’ve been so motivated because of that. He’s the best trainer I’ve ever had!! Thanks Carter!
Expérience fantastique: Excellent facilities and perfect location. The Manager Vince is very welcoming and professional. The trainers are great too - very knowledgeable. I haven't been to a gym in 25 years, so I was reluctant to return - but I love this gym! A+
Expérience positive: Recently joined this gym as far as weights go there is a large selection of equipment it's old but still good equipment gym is clean and staff are friendly . But I gave three stars because the cardio equipment is junk constant waits for treadmills(they are constantly broken) if they doubled the cardio equipment and got new stuff gym would be 4 stars if cardio is your game I would consider other gyms
Expérience négative: Unprofessional staff. Last week two staff members got into a shouting match with two HIGH SCHOOLERS about being too loud at the gym… Both staff members resorted to throwing F-bombs at the young boys which I found incredibly unprofessional and disturbing! I wasn’t going to leave a review on here until I saw another member giving 5 stars to this gym, addressing the 1 star review of the verbally abused member. The fact they had to ask other members to leave a 5 star review and blame the young member for being cussed out by Staff is beyond me. What kind of management allows this to be happening? Oh well. Hope more honest reviews about this gym will follow in the future.
Expérience négative: So tired of this place. Dont join here stonechurch or ancaster. YOu bring concerns to them. Nothing gets done. Today i had a dumbell almost fall on my foot. Forever they know that the racks are broken and refuse to fix. Floors are always cluttered and garbage overflowing. This place is becoming a joke. Spend your time doing research and join somewhere else. No one cares here. The floor staff is never around. KIds come in and drop and abuse equipment. No one to give them direction on gym etiquette. Spent all kinds of time and money at the other gyms. But when everything was closed and lost stoney creek. This gym was over populated and abused. But never ever was money spent to upgrade. Do yourself a favor and agrivation. Look someplace else to work out
Expérience fantastique: My husband and I started going here 2 months ago. I have a premium membership, so we have checked out a handful of other locations. This one is our go-to. Our 3 teens have started coming with us, and have been really enjoying it as well. The thing that makes this location stand out is the community that the owner Vince and his staff foster here. From all of the front desk staff (shout out to Anna! She is so welcoming to deal with), to the trainers that are always around, it's a very inclusive, relaxed place to be. They may not have dozens of treadmills or elliptical machines, but the ones that are there are well maintained. If there is a machine out of service, you can pretty much be assured it will be back up and working by your next visit. I haven't ever really experienced a gym like this where I don't feel judged, or out of place. Everyone is super friendly. Thanks Vince and your team for creating a fun place for my family to spend time together!
Expérience fantastique: I have nothing but good things to say about this location and have recommended it to other family and friends and they have all been very impressed as well. It's not as big as some of the other locations but the atmosphere and staff are amazing and unlike any where else I've been. The manager Vince sat down with me and was very pleasant and set up a family plan for myself and daughter. All of the personal trainers here are so approachable and helpful on the floor. The customer service staff are so polite and friendly. What really stood out today was the representative Anna who originally set up my account saw me walk in today and greeted me by name and asked me how I was enjoying my membership since she had remembered setting up my account 2 months ago. Seriously in this day and age where do you get that level of client care and interaction anymore. It's the little extra touches and attention to detail like what Anna provided today that make me feel like a valued customer.
Expérience positive: Friendly staff, clean gym with a reasonable selection of equipment and optional classes. Highly recommend speaking with Dave about a personal fitness and nutrition plan. Be aware that it can be busy at times with local high school students. Great app to download that serves as your access and fitness tracker. Multiple plans to choose from depending on if you want to only access this location or multiple ones. Also note there is no pool on site.
Expérience fantastique: Excellent
Expérience fantastique: Staff is so helpful and friendly
Expérience négative: Trying to cancel is a pain. The staff that work there are not the best
Expérience négative: Beware of them jacking up your membership fee without making you aware. Then they’ll gaslight you into saying they sent an email when the whole time the email on file was not correctly written down. Highly disappointed.
Expérience positive: The gym gets the job done. BUT: Needs a fresh coat of paint. Please add some dehumidifiers! The humidity and air flow needs improvement.
Expérience négative: This gym use to be decent, there is now a complete lack of investment/maintenance. The treadmills are old and malfunction continuously. The free weight area is an absolute mess, with a number of the weights being inaccurately labeled. Seeing buckets laid everywhere, to catch water from the leaky roof is fairly common. Will be looking elsewhere at other options.
Expérience négative: This place is a SCAM! I went to cancel subscriptions for my wife and I on 2 occasions. The manager convinced me to put the account on hold saying it would be better as I won’t need to go through the process of registering again if I ever changed my mind. They mentioned that I would stop being charged until I came back. I have been charged over $300 (for both accounts) and when I went in they insisted that they wouldn’t refund. Their business practices are shady and immoral at best. The staff can also do with better training. The manager really shouldn’t be in that position. Zero people skills and very condescending. I have no idea who thought it was a good idea for him to manage anything. If there was an option for ZERO stars, I would have selected that instead. Run very far from here. They do not have your best interest at heart.
Expérience fantastique: Nice staff and cheap prices.
Expérience fantastique: My husband enjoys the gym experience here. Good people, respectful and friendly!
Expérience fantastique: Good gym
Expérience négative: awful. The equipment is old, gross and ripped.
Expérience fantastique: Not my home club, but one of my favorites in the region. Large and open with high ceilings. It has a great HIIT zone, so HIIT classes are great. Lots of clean/quality gear in good repair (unlike some other local locations ;/ )
Expérience négative: I came to this gym a few times with some friends and we all found that the manager (Vince) had been very leery and creepy. He would stare at us as we worked out and it made us all feel very uncomfortable. We left about 20 minutes in both times we came. This is very unfortunate for a few reasons. 1 being, I know that going into a gym there will be people staring, however I never would have thought the manager of the branch would have been this leery, and 2, as a guest to this establishment, I should have not been worried about my safety or worried about which eyes are where. If I could I would give 0 stars. Not impressed.
Expérience négative: I signed up for Crunch because of how close this location was to where I live and I never thought to take a tour of this specific one because of how much I liked other locations. This gym stinks, the equipment is old and FILTHY, everything is very crammed together (though recently that has gotten slightly better) and there is one SMALL corner of mirrors and the mats provided are torn and flat. Also inside the classroom there is a stack of light weights that look like they were picked up from various garage sales falling apart and not matching in colour or material. I seriously hope things improve here and thank goodness I didn’t purchase the basic membership or else I would be livid being stuck with this location and by comparison to other Crunch gyms this place falls so short it’s embarrassing.
Expérience négative: What a dump. The whole gym stinks. The change rooms/washrooms are disgusting. The equipment is old and tattered. There is hardly any cardio equipment. The equipment is so uncomfortably close together. The owner of this gym should be embarrassed.
Expérience fantastique: Loved the place and facilities.
Expérience fantastique: Love the staff!
Expérience fantastique: The best place
Expérience fantastique: Very welcoming environment.
Expérience positive: Always clean, great staff and respectable members.
Expérience positive: It was ok. Been to better Crunches. Old equipment
Expérience positive: Equipment is very old. Gym is quite small
Expérience fantastique: Love this place, it’s like a second home to me!!
Expérience positive: The machines are old and of lower quality. Gym is somewhat small. It gets the job done as a gym though
Expérience négative: Did not have the best experience with management. Equipment always seems to be broken
Expérience négative: Worst experience!!! Be careful the cheap gets expensive… we feel so frustrated and scammed. Money money!
Expérience négative: Answer the phone you can’t be that busy where you can’t even return calls head office blows can’t count how many emails I sent horrible experience and the last ever
Expérience fantastique: Great gym! Lots of equipment for a good price.
Expérience fantastique: Great service! Carrey at the desk is great! Awesome Gym!!
Expérience fantastique: Great place to workout! Lots of equipment, friendly staff and patrons!
Expérience négative: Worst gym .. equipment failure They will allow teenage kids without membership and they will create a ruckus in free weight area
Expérience fantastique: I’m a member at Crunch and I love going there. Very clean and a great atmosphere.
Expérience positive: A good inexpensive place to work out, however some of the machines are old and because of the lack of machines and room, it can get quite busy.
Expérience fantastique: Great service! Carrie at the front desk is great! Awesome gym and awesome people!
Expérience positive: Great staff and coaches. It's a smaller gym (which I like). And has a comfortable and friendly atmosphere.
Expérience fantastique: Been coming to this location for about 10 years now possibly longer. Amazing classes, amazing workers they make you feel welcomed. I always recommend this location.
Expérience fantastique: Amazing customer service THANK YOU VINCE @ crunch fitness centennial!!! He helped me get my mobile account up and running so fast and was so polite!
Expérience positive: Machines are old, atmosphere not great and some staff don't know what their doing. They desperately need to renovate the place.
Expérience fantastique: Love going to Crunch. I do the group fitness classes, they’re amazing! So hard but fun at the same time.
Expérience fantastique: Staff and personal fitness are great, facility needs some TLC and equipment needs some maintenance... which has been happening.
Expérience positive: Friendly staff, lots of space and exercise options. Growth point! Some of the equip is in rough shape but overall great gym to work out at.
Expérience fantastique: I have only just started, how ever i have a great trainer everyone is super friendly and helpfull. Clean enviroment and having axcess to multiple facilities across my city has been great.
Expérience fantastique: Love the gym on Upper Centennial and the one on stone church rd. Amazing equipment, staff, cleanliness etc. Definitely recommend!!
Expérience négative: Dirty, nasty, conjested, poor equipment, no rules, no effort to improve, strongly advise not to join. Wish I could award this gym negative zero.
Expérience positive: I am old. But I am a young old I enjoy the vibe. Thanks to jordon he took a picture of the app because I am old and can’t do techno. Joan rocks as always. You have many pleasant young people at desk. Keep up the good work
Expérience négative: Awful gym all around.. lied about renovating after 5 star fitness purchased by Crunch. Unfriendly staff and disgusting equipment. Not worth saving a few dollars!
Expérience fantastique: Big space with huge windows, very pleasant to work out in. The price is cheap so don't expect frills but if you're looking for a workout there's nothing missing.
Expérience positive: Have attended the gym on Upper Centennial for 4 months now and pleased with the gym. Some equip and facility are dated but clean. Friendly atmosphere, enjoy working out there.
Expérience négative: The staff-Vince was very rude there today; he asked me to take a picture for my file but I was in hurry and declined to do it today. He came and asked me to leave the gym in a very rude and disrespectful manner. He threatened me to cancel my membership if I don't take a picture today! and I told him to go ahead. My membership is cancelled today! I will NOT recommend this place to anyone!
Expérience négative: zero RATING ..I was told the old location went bankrupt. No notification that they moved up the mountain. I stopped payments obviously. Now I am getting hounded by these idiots to pay. Also they were dumb enough to send me their marketing specials. SCAMMERS!
Expérience positive: Equipment is pretty old with a few exceptions. Not the best maintained of the Crunch facilities in Hamilton area. Cleaning could use more attention. Stone Church location is better all round.
Expérience fantastique: Love going to this Crunch location!! All the workers are super friendly. If you need anything, ask Vince. He is the best! Super nice and patient with me when I signed up and had a million questions lol
Expérience fantastique: Still sad to see andee go, but the new manager Vince seems like lives at the gym and is always trying to make sure everybodies good as well. He helped me resolve a couple of issues already and made sure the process was smooth and painless
Expérience négative: SCAM. Nothing but a headache trying to switch locations and have the FOURTEEN PT SESSIONS I HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR transferred over. Ongoing since May 8 at this point. Head office won't contact you either despite them apparently being the reason for the transfer not working. Crunch owes me over $800, if you think I'm just going to forget about it you are mistaken.
Expérience fantastique: I always wanted a gym close to my house , when i moved i got so happy that we have a crunch fitness 5 mins walk from my home. Clean, amazing staff and fully equipped and functioning gym. Latin Zumba is my favourite.
Expérience négative: This gym has bumper plates, oly bars, and platform. But be aware you can’t use it for its purpose. This should be stated at the day signing that you can’t use the equipment for what it’s meant for. Run down gym with decent facilities but rules against using equipment for what it’s for. Abysmal.
Expérience négative: Member since 5-star purchased from Watsons so almost 20 years. Referred and recruited dozens of members over the years. Recently, crunch bought all the 5-star locations. Fruitland location closed down, no notice to their members, arrived with chains the doors. Called upper centennial location to cancel/freeze my account as the location did not meet my needs. 6 months later, they began billing my account again without notice or authorization. No documents signed, no agreement. Will attempt to visit the location for a refund and if possible receive a documented cancellation of my membership. In addition, I have prepaid personal training billed and paid for and not used. That is completely different story that was never rectified. I was told that general managers were notified and it would be handled. Absolutely, unacceptable business acumen. They bend policies when it benefits them. Would not recommend.
Expérience fantastique: The staff is very nice and warming, and so are the people there that go in, everyday to workout. I feel motivated seeing how others grow right in front of my eyes. This gym has become a second home to me
Expérience fantastique: Joined at the beginning of the year with 0 experience prior, now that it's been awhile I have alot of insights. To start, no hidden fees in my experience at all, very upfront and straightforward to understand. I did the welcome session with David, who was friendly enough and dove right into the workout, somewhat thought should have warmed up and already had a routine to demonstrate. Personally I felt that there is a general routine they go to, and when I listed my goals, I was still geared to the "mainstream". But it is what it is in that business. The front desk staff are always welcoming and the manager Vince has been nothing but amazing with not only fixing my membership when I misclicked while signing up, but just always having good energy, always friendly and takes the effort to get to know the people attending more then on a patron level. The support staff are great aswell and I ALWAYS see them cleaning somewhere throughout my visits. I've been going for awhile now, and I never felt out of place. The other patrons are courteous enough, and some were nice enough to give me a hand setting some machines up, or the more experienced patrons to kindly give insight on my positioning or techniques to avoid giving myself an injury (they of course asked if they could prior). You get the energy you put out. I took things a step further and went and met with Hiteshri, the physiotherapist on site. She did a complimentary assessment and we went over some areas that were giving me angst from work, and my busy lifestyle. We made a plan specifically to help, and she paired with with Laura. Laura is AMAZING! She is sooo experienced with all the avenues around health and wellbeing in her knowledge. I love that she knows how to balance pushing and when to ease up, because she listens and watches your body language in your sessions. She is always "on" for her clients by being available whenever you message her, and helping give insights anywhere from nutrition, to machine set up, to routines and programs to help you get to those goals. Overall, I'm glad I joined this location, and will continue to attend.
Expérience négative: As a crunch member I thought I would try the gym closer to my work and was painfully disappointed. Rude staff, not a single treadmill worked correctly, tried other cardio machines that also did not correctly work. A lot of you g members in in appropriate footwear and behaving recklessly with weights. Dirty bathrooms, I will not be returning to this location.
Expérience fantastique: I love crunch fitness on centennial/highland! The price fits into my budget, the enrolment was easy and the staff are friendly and helpful! My only suggestion would be to have some newer equipment but otherwise it fits my needs :)
Expérience positive: The membership is affordable and there are many locations to choose from evenly spaced across the City. The equipment at Upper Centennial location is a little dated, but there are enough options that you can get a functional workout in every time. Stone Church and Upper James locations are busy but have the most inventory
Expérience négative: Equipment are old and busted. Covers on a lot of cardio machines are missing and can literally see wires. Looks like cardio machine were never cleaned. Some of seats are torn. Equipment, shower, washroom, locker overall the whole gym requires a professional cleaning and repair. Only good part is all glass wall bringing in a lot of natural light. Staff are friendly but overall gym needs a good upgrade/ cleaning. Hamilton east mountain is the best location when compared to this.
Expérience fantastique: Crunch has been nothing but exceptional, this gym is so warm and welcoming, has a very unjudgmental environment, and lots of friendly people/instructors. I have been with crunch for about 5 years and I have been impressed this entire time. I have chosen to go into a field that is extremely physically active and the instructors and coaches at crunch have been extremely supportive. Very grateful to be a member.
Expérience positive: Although the Staff is friendly and helpful, I do have my reservations. Most of the equipment is old and some stuff needs repairs. They need updating. This location could use a very good professional cleaning. Seen a definate improvement in cleanliness of the men's changeroom over the last month. I come to the Upper Centennial location because it is close to home and the price is reasonable.
Expérience fantastique: I normally don’t do reviews but the service I received when I joined was one of the best. The quick and straight forward signup was so easy. They don’t hide prices and I didn’t have to negotiate a good deal. The free training session with David was so informative and the nutrition advice from Vince helped me to understand how to make it sustainable. The group classes I’ve tried so far had me sweating buckets. The only downside was how old some of the machines were.
Expérience négative: Busted machines and poor maintenance.I told the staff about 2 broken machines for 3.5 weeks and for someone to take me seriously I had literally walk them to the machines and demonstrate. One has had the "schedules for service" for the past 3 weeks since I demonstrated. The staff, does not check to refill paper towel in work out area or bathroom, I had to tell them about that too. Other locations are much better.
Expérience fantastique: Crunch as a whole is a good gym. I've been to alot of them from Brantford to Hamilton. Each has its own dynamic and layout, some have newer equipment and some older but it's always clean and the staff at all locations have been great! I would highly recommend Crunch Fitness!
Expérience fantastique: If you're looking for a top-notch gym that has it all, Crunch Fitness is the place for you. This gym is clean, modern, and equipped with all the latest equipment. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and they always go above and beyond to make sure their members are happy and satisfied. Overall, I highly recommend Crunch Fitness to anyone looking for a great gym experience. With their state-of-the-art facilities, top-notch trainers, and friendly staff, you won't find a better place to get fit and healthy. 5 stars all around!
Expérience négative: I’ve been going to this gym for over 5 years. If you are new to the gym I do believe it is a very welcoming environment. The staff is great! I love the community this gym has and it is mainly what holds me back from switching to a gym with better equipment and one that is more functional. It has been sad to see how downhill this gym has gone since crunch took over from 5star after we were promised renovations and updated equipment. The crunch take over seemed to bring in a larger, very young crowd as well which is a great thing in my opinion. What isn’t great about it is the large groups of mainly teenage boys standing around blocking machines or the free weights in an already small gym. The gym etiquette is just non existent anymore as no one seems to re rack their weights or clean machines/equipment when they are finished. You can still get in a descent workout but they are missing some key gym equipment in my opinion like the seated hamstring curl machine. We could also use more light kettlebells and dumbbells good like trying to find anything under 20 pounds.
Expérience fantastique: So far so great! Had a great experience signing up with Carrie and meeting the manager Vince. I also completed my kickoff session with David. He taught me alot about the importance of technique and I definitely felt the difference. I bought a few sessions and will see what happens. The gym itself is nice and everything is pretty well laid out. They also do active physio which I'm hoping to try out too. The gym could use some upgrades aesthetically but well worth it for the price of the membership. The other members are friendly enough.
Expérience positive: This is a smaller gym then some others I've seen. But the atmosphere and the people there are amazing. I'd recommend this gym to first time starters or the daily gym goers. The staff are friendly.
Expérience positive: Crunch is a great place to get into shape. I have been going there for over 3 years and have been very happy. It is a small gym so it's very intimate. You get to know the people that work there and you feel like you are at home. I have been fortunate to do some training with 2 great people. The manager is terrific! The only negative would be that we need some new equipment. I hope that Crunch invests in this location as we have so many loyal clients.
Expérience fantastique: Great selection of equipment
Expérience négative: Everything is so sticky! Also photos are not of this site, don’t let them fool you
Expérience positive: Not bad but small and need more machine
Expérience positive: Not busy which was nice... not alot of free weights
Expérience positive: Great people and customer service, however, old equipment and some out of service for a while!
