Le YMCA Les Chater Family à Hamilton est un centre communautaire accueillant, connu pour son personnel amical et sa large gamme d'activités adaptées aux individus et aux familles. De nombreux membres apprécient l'atmosphère de soutien créée par les instructeurs, en particulier dans des cours tels que l'aquafit et l'hydrothérapie. Certains membres du personnel, comme Patty et Nick, ont reçu de nombreux éloges pour leurs styles d'enseignement engageants et leurs connexions personnelles avec les participants.

Expérience fantastique: I have been coming to Les Charter Family YMCA since 2018. Had been part of the group which is now called Healthy Heart and attended also Hydrotherapy and even Aquafit and was part of the original GerasDance group. All the Instructors were very helpful and I found all the staff friendly. I have gotten to know most of the instructors and staff over the years and found each of them to be a friend to me and always helpful. However, over the last couple of years, Patty one of the instructors has become a very special friend. Her classes if it is in the pool or other classes are always good and we all have a good time attending her classes. I have found that I feel much better and even though there are health issues I attend because it makes me feel better. I also made many friends and love going to the Y to see and talk to them. I have only positive things to say.

Expérience négative: Went here to visit the pool and the staff is so rude it's incredible. The way managers talk to their fellow lifeguards is disgusting and the customer service absolutely helps nobody. Never coming back.

Expérience fantastique: update: General manager Joe set up a phone chat and we went through my feedback . He went out of his way to provide support and ensure that we never feel unwelcome. so, I am changing my stars. Staff rudeness: My partner and I were working out in the gym when the gym trainer comes to us and says ‘please clean up the weights after you are done. And i see there are a lot of dummbells’. We were two of us therefore 2 dumbbell sets. Literally a few feet away from us there were men standing and working out with 6-7 weights individually. So, it felt really isolating to be just told what to do while others weren't.

Expérience fantastique: I joined the Y in January specifically to participate in the aqua fit and hydrotherapy classes. It’s been great! I have found the staff, particularly in the pool area, to be fantastic. The instructors all have their own style, and choices of music, which keeps things fresh and interesting. They also meet the challenge of having to lead the classes while some people rudely talk the whole time. A special shout out goes to Patty! Love her class!

Expérience positive: I recently have been attending auqa fit at the 9am class, and i just want to say much I really enjoy the instructors, Shannon and Patty have both been marvelous. Both are different in their classes and i really enjoy my experience. The chatting from the class though is way too much. If someone could address this it would be appreciated. There is one member in particular who might be a little bit of a ring leader and scares the rest of the members. She's rude to staff and it's uncalled for, ruins the experience for everyone else.

Expérience fantastique: I have been coming to this Y for just over 2 years. I have met a lot of amazing people that have become dear friends. I want to make it known of one special instructor, her name is Patty on how much she has helped me heal after a surgery last year. Patty has been a God send . She is friendly and always puts her students needs first. No matter how hard of a day she could be having, once she goes through the YMCA doors everything is left outside so that she can provide 100 percent to her students from hydro to yoga to dance to exercise. She comes with a smile and she makes us feel like we are all special. Thank you Patty.

Expérience négative: Amazing Staff !! Please have maintenance fix the bathrooms (plumbing) and electrical faults. There are suppliers locally that stock the required parts. Code violations currently exist. Please take corrective action. Please rectify to comply with the YMCA’s National Facility Cleaning and Maintenance, YMCA SAM Standards. >>>>>>>>>>Response to Owner : YMCA staff and management are fully aware of deficiencies and have not taken corrective action for months now. That way we know which bathroom is having an issue. We will relay this information on to the General Manager, but without direction to which particular bathroom you experienced the plumbing issue in, it makes it a bit harder to find. Expérience négative: My partner was running late for a class and probably just forgot to stop and scan his key card. The receptionist, instead of just gently reminding, spoke like she's addressing a criminal. We've been members forever and it wasn't our first time experiencing this either. Always this one (white) female receptionist. So we hung out for a bit after the class to observe who she stopped and who she let in even when they didn't scan their keys. No surprises there lol. The black and brown folk were the ones being treated badly. Don't do a customer facing job if you can't check your nasty bias out of the way.

Expérience négative: THIS YMCA HIDES NEGATIVE REVIEWS!! REPOST - Very rude front desk employee (lady who seem to me as biracial / mixed race) - BEWARE!! MOST BAD REVIEWS HERE ARE RELATED TO RUDENESS OF THE STAFF...AND I CAN GUARANTEE YOU, THE SAME BI-RACIAL LADY WILL BE THE MAIN CULPRIT!! She is proud of her rudeness (she will actually tell you - whatever you say, does not work)!! Filter reviews to "Lowest" - you will see all is about rudeness Been at this location for about 2 years, bringing my kids for swimming. When you go in there you have to scan to confirm your membership(s) - i have no challenges following this policy and always abide to that. ISSUE Because we have multiple kids (in different classes at different times), we have to go in and out various times (most people do that too for a ton of legitimate reasons as there are no places to wait for your kids in the lockers, you have to come outside). Never had any issues for 2 years, today this RUDE biracial / mixed lady at the front desk stopped me and told me, i will have to scan every time i get passed the reception desk (even if if i already checked in the first time). Seemed like a ridiculous policy to me (impossible to implement) but there is some validity behind it - as you still need to ensure only verified members go in there BUT EVERYTIME A PERSON PASSES? EVEN IF YOU SAW THEM FEW MINS AGO? WHAT IS THIS, JAIL? I am very aware businesses can enforce policies and as a customer I have a choice to abide to them or leave (if I don't like them)...but this one, ridiculous! PROBLEM - RUDENESS OF THE FRONT DESK LADY I was kinda taken back by this policy and asked her "everytime"? even after you have already seen me and I scanned when entering the lockers first time?...... she answered back to me rudely and like i was annoying her while walking away as if i broke somekind of a law (bare in mind - I walking holding my daughter to get her shoes she forgot at the swimming pool, which i already communicated to her). So i told her to chill out and not take her job too seriously - hell broke loose! She went on threatening to cancel my kids membership because i told her that!!! apparently i was not supposed to speak to staff like that (as if I cursed her out) - the little authority given to this lady has gone in her head, completely oblivious with her surroundings and her tone!! Abuse of policy! IN SHORT - Policy of verifying people makes sense but everytime with yelling at people ?? I think there other better ways - put an automatic small gate that opens only with membership tags).....THE MAIN ISSUE IS HOW THIS STAFF APPROACHES PEOPLE WITH A RUDE TONE...NOT EVEN POLICE USE THAT TONE AGAINST CRIMINALS!! WHY IS YMCA PUTTING PEOPLE ON THE FRONT DESK WHO HAVE ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE APTITUDE? THESE FRONT DESK PEOPLE ARE THE FACE OF YMCA - THE FIRST CONTACT PARENTS OR OTHER CUSTOMERS MEET! IF A PERSON HAS ANGER OR EMOTIONAL ISSUES, SHOULDN'T BE THERE! Spoke to supervisor, she was respectful even though we did not agree on the matter (she kept defaulting back to "it is our policy", which i kept reassuring to her that i understand and in agreement...BUT IT DOES NOT GIVE HER STAFF PERMISSION TO BE RUDE) - supervisor does not seem to have any motivation neither of ensuring staff provide a minimal customer service to people.... i guess that is what you get with "federated charity made up of autonomous Member Associations and a national office" - NO ACCOUNTABILITY? LASTLY - IF YOU STAND IN FRONT OF THE RECEPTION DESK (UNDERCOVER), I CAN GUARANTEE YOU WILL SEE NOT EVERYONE IS GETTING STOPPED..... OBVIOUS "RECENT" PATTERN I HAVE SEEN, BLACK PEOPLE AND BROWN PEOPLE GET STOPPED THE MOST!! I encourage corporate to send an undercover employee to verify these claims (wait for few weeks though - cause after this complaint, they will try to ensure everyone who goes past their desk is verified but i know they cannot keep up with this....IT IS A RIDICULOUS IMPOSSIBLE POLICY TO IMPLEMENT)....all these bad reviews, these people are not divas...really rude staff Les Charter Family YMCA has!

Expérience négative: The front desk staff at the Rymal Road location (except for the lady in the hijab) are rude, they lack customer service skills. They sit staring at the computer screen knowing full well you’re waiting. They do not acknowledge you and treat you like you’re an inconvenience to them. Dare you ask a question and the response comes with a very rude manner. The swim staff and the lady that cleans the changing always very friendly, polite and helpful. I will give them five stars. Front desk they all need to take additional training.

Expérience négative: Severely disappointed with this location and its manager, Joe. I had been a returning member after several years off, opting for the adult-only pass because I was committed. The facilities are decent. Staff I dealt with were mostly fine. Only one rude person at the desk. My issue was the custodian using the changeroom as her hangout spot. Yes it was clean, but thats because that woman never left the changroom. She had her tea in there, i caught her watching me cream myself after the shower, she stood two feet away from me, telling me to "take my time", but then contunued to stand in front of me (While I'm half naked!), forcing me to make small talk, until I was changed. When the manager, Joe, was told about this issue, he said he would deal with it. (Spoiler: Guess who didn't deal with it?) The next day I was in there, she was having her tea, waiting to chat with anyone coming in and STILL there after my workout, chatting with the ladies coming out of the pool. I emailed Joe's manager, and "apparently", she is going to deal with it, but I have now quit and will never know if this woman learns boundaries. Very very uncomfy experience, VERY dissapointed in Joe, and disappointed this woman didn't learn her lesson THE FIRST TIME - so that I had to complain once again and quit because I felt like my valid complaints fell on deaf ears. I went right to GOODLIFE (which is a really nice facility BTW and worth checking out before you think about going to the Y). The demographic for the Y during the day is 65+. If you are scaring away the younger generation, how will this facility survive?

Expérience positive: They have a wonderful trainer called Nick, in the hit course. He is very professional, he knows all the exercises that work on every part of the body, and we train for only half an hour but they are intense and powerful exercises. Expérience négative: I am utterly upset by the type of customer support I received over the phone today by the Rymal charter location! I called the receptionist desk to explain my situation. They were not compassionate or considerate of my physical and financial situation. YMCA mission is to support and help people in the community. Unfortunately, I did not feel helped when I spoke the reps on that side. They advised me in order to stop incurring charges on my account I will need to update my payment method or come into branch to cancel my membership. Both options not practical for me at this moment. They also did not provide me alternatives or tried to work with me. My current credit card has been stolen. The bank has reissued me a new card but it has been taking awhile for it to arrive in the mail. I do not have another credit card. I also do not have funds in my bank account at this moment to be paying an owing balance. It is unfair for me to be paying an owing balance and continue to incur charge. I physically cannot come into branch. I was in a car accident last week and hospitalized a good amount of that time. I believe it is unfair for me to pay this balance when I have already told YMCA of my situation but was not given any compassion or support or a waive of the incurred cost. I haven't been in the YMCA branch for 2 weeks due to my physical incapabilities and my credit card being lost. I would of hoped YMCA would be more considerate or provide alternatives to individuals who cannot come into branch to deactivate their accounts. It seems like that is not the case. I spoke to the membership manager: Sarah Jodway. I strongly believe she is unfitted for the role because she was very aggressive and inconsiderate to my needs when we started talking on the call. As I tried to voice my concerns she asked me "to stop talking so she can finish her point" and if I didn't she would hang up on me. I simply told her the way she is treating me, right now, is unfair and she hung up on me. there has been other reviews of her treating customer like this! I have contacted higher leadership to voice my concerns for this location. I am not the only person saying this location is terrible with Customer Support Relations! Update March 27 at 11AM: After speaking to leadership members they were kind enough to look into my case and resolve this issue for me. I really appreciate their quick response.

Expérience positive: You can find there good equipment and an "all in one" place for swiming and cardio/weight training. But aside from the nice premises, there is clearly a lack of dynamic/vibes in YMCA. As a confirmed athlete (running/triathlon), you don't feel pushed. This more a "keep in shape" place than a stimulation environment. And when you take a look at the lessons (aquabike/aquatraining/kids swimmings lessons), you don't feel like joining or registering your kid for those ones. And YWCA downtown clearly needs some refresh. Everything is invested in Las Chather but the downtown building is abandoned. Ovverall, we can't complain when you have modern sports premises at affordable rate. But yeah, YMCA is not yet there if you want to consider it as "the place to be"!

Expérience positive: Great instructors and class options (especially cyclefit), however it is a very inconvenient length swim schedule. There are so many open swim slots, and usually shared with a two lane swim. It would be decent if people of similar skill levels and speed swam in the proper lane, but people just swim all over the place leading to dangerous situations. I was once swimming in a circle with another patron and a third came in and swam between me and the lane rope - and lifeguards did nothing. It's not my job to inform people of proper swim etiquette. If there were more full pool lane swims (other than the morning and the middle of the day when many people are working), it would spread people out. But it just seems this Y always caters to open swimmers - who often jump in and out of the lanes and on the ropes when it's a shared swim. You increase the prices to the memberships, we should have a fair variety of options.

Expérience négative: I was so enthusiastic to visit your facility and sign up for a gym membership but after reading the most recent reviews I'm having second thoughts I was excited because you're close to me that on good weather days I could have a good walk to your facility but after reading that some employees are rude and mean.. Expérience négative: It’s a good place but unfortunately, there’s no cctv in the parking. My car got hit and and the person run away. I asked for a cctv footage from the staff and they told they didn’t have cctv’s outside.

Expérience fantastique: I LOVE this Y, I have a long list of why its so great but aside from the average Y, the gym area is decently large, with the cafe serving a great egg and cheese sandwich, the biggest thing for me is the HPL connected right next to it, as soon as your done with your workout or anything you can relax at the library and catch up on a book or some work, definately gotta say if you go to the YMCAHHB, take a trip to the turner park Y, its not even my local yet thats the one I go to.

Expérience fantastique: I took my NL Recert here, and I strongly recommend taking aquatic leadership courses here. Monica (the NL examiner) was amazing, and the entire process was quite organized and streamlined. A very welcoming, friendly atmosphere with all staff being friendly and knowledgable, and an attitude that encourages success. Great experience :)

Expérience négative: Bunch of kids (too much). Can't use the gym to play basketball at all. Everyone is tossing the ball and even kids that don't play basketball are running around the gym. Not a good place to focus in your exercise.

Expérience négative: I came to the library here and got hungry so I asked a lady at the desk if there was a vending machine and she told me yes there was one down the hall. As I started walking down the hall another lady at the desk yelled at me and said that it was for members only. She most definitely could have told me in a way kinder way.

Expérience positive: Very nice gym, rarely crowded and rarely have to wait for equipment, staff are nice and helpful. But too many of the young guys (also some ladies) are too cool to wipe down any equipment or have any kind of manners/respect/consideration for others, I know I sound old but how much effort is it wipe a bike after you've used it, there are signs everywhere reminding you to do it ?

Expérience négative: This is for the otter swim class(beginners) They are allotted 30mins and each week a new child is added into the group that is just starting to learn to swim which wastes the 30mins because the 1 staff has to stop to tend that child. The so called instructors does not seem interested in teaching because they spend at least 10-15mins doing only 1 thing. The instructor that has at least 6 children NOW needs a 2nd partner. I expressed my concern and they could care less if what you have to say. A 2nd instructor is needed cuz not all children are the same size and I notice only the smaller sized kids certain activities are done with....which is not fair if the goal is to teach a child how to swim. Instead of teaching the otters to swim the instructor is seen letting the kids do their own thing while standing to the side

Expérience fantastique: I have been using this YMCA on and off for many years. The staff are always accommodating, friendly and helpful. I personally use the gym and find it to be a good atmosphere and an excellent variety of gym equipment. I also have my daughter in the childminding program with Rohina, who is wonderful and caring with my daughter. I feel confident leaving my daughter with Rohina and I never worry about her, which allows me to have a good workout. Amanda is another staff I’ve recently spoken to, she is excellent at her job and ensures she follows proper protocols around confidentiality- keeping my information protected, and has provided me with information I needed in a timely manner. The manager of memberships, Sarah, was also very helpful recently and her problem solving skills are great. My children are in swimming classes at this YMCA as well, and the lifeguards are so good with them. They’ve learned so much and are well taken care of during their lessons. All in all I highly recommend this facility for family memberships, as it is clean, well run and I can’t say enough about the staff! Thank you!

Expérience négative: This YMCA seems like a great place but, unfortunately, it is very unwelcoming. Classes are often full, and people reserve spots for their friends rather than making space for new members. This place serves "regulars" and has little to offer people who are new to the YMCA or wanting to try out new things at the gym (classes, equipment, etc.) If you do want to try a fitness class or other program here, it's a good idea to show up 15-20 minutes early and to advocate for yourself, because unless you're a regular you're likely to get snubbed.

The girl at the reception is so rude ,my kid is crying I asked her If I can give him a ball so he stops crying, she with so much attitude said that this kid is not allowed here like seriously he is just 16 months like wow . She had so much attitude for no reason and she was also racist towards an Indian couple. Like if you can't handle different race then quit your job and stay home. I wish I could give this place 0 rating

Expérience négative: The review is specific for 3-5 year old activity classes. They teach nothing. Except the dance class (which is outsourced and hence better) no other class is useful. Be in soccer or basketball, the same set of staff teach everything and they are clearly not interested. 45 mins class they do only 5 mims of relevant activity and rest 40 mims idle around - 3-4 staff just talk to each other wasting time, they dont co-ordinate or motivate kids. Then they spend rest of time sitting and playing non soccer, non basket ball related games basically because instructor wants to relax. I would advise against sending here, its a waste of time and money. Better send to private classes.

Expérience négative: Very disappointed with the customer service. The lady who works in the front was very rude and mean. I asked her a simple question about signing up a family member under my account since my brother got a special promo last year when he got membership. She became argumentative right away and told me that they have to investigate my file and probably cancel my brother’s membership. This all happened while i brought them a third person to sign up with them. This is the not their first time, i went through the same scenario last year. If you wanna avoid public embarrassment please sign up online.

Expérience négative: don't get me wrong I absolutely understand parents supervision but what is the point if me paying for a membership for me and my kids and I have to be with them every single moment Especially if they're of age I have trained my kids how to act accordingly in public and home I just don't understand what is the point ..... My kids can swim they're very respectful Why do they have workers there if they are not going to do their job it's like I'm working their job and being a mother lol that is hilarious they need to change the rules here this is really not fair an example on weekends are my only days I can really work out my kids want to go swimming also the gym I waited till they had their fun ended up going to the gym a lady see me Literally tracks me down just to tell me the gym was closing when she seen me trying to get some workout in when she's the same one that told me I cannot leave my kids on supervision which they were not they were there with other people we normally go to the Y with I'm sure I'm not the only parents that is being affected by this it's nice there but there are very strict rules and staffs......... If you want to be watched definitely go to this location LOL location

Expérience négative: I went in today planning to have a nice workout and my sister was trying to use me as a guest to get in, and they said they don’t accept guests after 5pm and I even offered to pay to get in (as other people do) and they told me no. This place is the definition of stupid. Their excuse was “it gets busy”, it wasn’t even busy. And these companies wonder why they are losing business. The girl was also rude, she’s lucky I didn’t off. Learn how to run a business.

Expérience négative: 2 stars for a great layout. Terribly unimpressed with the staff, didn’t set up my profile correctly and didn’t get a spot for swimming because of it. There were spaces available. I’ve been trying to cancel for weeks now and no one returns phone calls or answers messages. I was also told no one here answers the phone. I’ve now being charged an extra family biweekly and about to be charged another. I cannot make it in. What does one have to do to get their membership cancelled where someone will actually respond to you?

Expérience fantastique: Attended Yoga on Sunday with Patty. It was my first time. She was very welcoming and explained everything as she went. I felt very comfortable in the class. She is very knowledgeable in the movements and offered alternatives for those who needed an option.

Expérience négative: The staff are extremely rude. I was there for one hour and my son was called a girl by a staff member serving food, and two staff members tried to argue with me about picking up my child. They treat people unfairly and they do not apologize for their wrongs. The gym and pool are decent but the it is littered with poor staff who make the experience unwelcoming and unpleasant.

Expérience fantastique: Friendly staff work there. There are workers that are constantly wiping down the machines, cleaning the bathrooms. During aquafit/family swim there is easily 6 + lifeguards working. I feel safe visiting the YMCA on the mountain.

Expérience négative: I don’t know why their fee is ridiculously high for this season like before every other program for kids was covered under the membership fee .Now with a raised membership fee they have included only swimming lessons and all other programs are 25$,30$ or even 50$ per kid. Expérience fantastique: They follow covid protocols better than other gyms I've been to and the machines are placed properly. Friendly staff and they always have an employee wiping down machines at all times which is good to see.

Expérience positive: Swimming facilities are clean, but the guests in the observation area treat it like a toilet. There’s always food, litter, and the occasional wet bathing suit hanging around. More sweeps by the cleaning staff would do wonders.

Expérience négative: Les Chater Family YMCA great place! But just when there’s this lady that works at the cafe or store that sells snacks, very rude, and disrespectful. Me and my friends didn’t know what we wanted. It took us 5 mins and when we went up to the counter we wanted a bag of chips. And she said “took you forever to pick a bag of chips, your wasting my time”. She has blonde, brownish hair with glasses. I saw her at Sobeys and she works there to. So then I went to another cash register.

Expérience négative: Men's adult change room (which is extra monthly) is absolutely filthy, used razors left unattended for hours, steam room always filthy. I remember seeing the same used razor under the bench in the steam room for 2 weeks until I had enough and picked it up. Also on more then one occasion I've seen human feces on the shower floor, I'm not making this up. The place has so much potential, and for how much they charge monthly it's a joke how filthy it is.

Expérience fantastique: Beautiful YMCA. Large change rooms with private lockers. Large washroom with private showers. Large hot tub with powerful massage jets will hold up to ten people at a time. Offers Aqua fit exercises in the beautiful large heated pool. Lift chair available for access to pool by the disabled. Wheelchair accessible shower and bathroom too. Stair entry into large heated pool. Lots of parking in the parking lot to access the building. Great coffee shop and library attached for socializing or studying. Large equipment rooms in upper part of building for training. Large gymnasium for fitness programs and sports activities. Small classroom for medical seminars. Really a great place for any community for recreational and medical care. Thank you so much Les Chater Family YMCA for your great contributions to the City of Hamilton Ontario Canada. You are appreciated for your excellent programs for all ages. Service staff are friendly courteous and attentive. Prices are geared to income for those on pensions. Excellent service kept spotlessly clean and tidy.

Expérience négative: Absolute terrible swimming pool. The pool water feels like spit and they put in so much chlorine there. Me and my pal were using the kids ball to throw at each other and they told me it was inappropriate to legit play catch with the ball and they took it away. Honestly it looks like the lifeguards are just trying to find something to do and they have nothing better do.

Expérience négative: My husband had an appointment for 4 PM on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 with Katie. When he got there, they said Katie had just left. They said maybe it is next Wednesday but they didn't even check. Katie called at 9:06 am on Monday, July 15th to arrange the appointment and she said she only had 1 appointment on Wednesday @ 4 PM which my husband said was fine. We drove all the way from Grimsby. Unfortunately this YMCA has no clue about Customer Service. Maybe my husband was spoiled with the fantastic service he received at Hamilton General Hospital by Jon. I hope the YMCA Executives read these comments and take appropriate action.

Expérience positive: Do NOT take your Bronze Cross at this facility. There is only one examiner and less than half of the participants per class are successful at the exam each session. Other than that, the facility is excellent, the instructors are good, the library is amazing. Oh, and don't expect good service from the food counter on a Sunday.

Expérience négative: I’ve been curious about this gym so I tried a trial pass. The receptionist at the front desk was very friendly. Unfortunately the gym itself is very underwhelming with a bad set up of equipment. The change rooms and showers are totally outdated. One of the ‘personal trainers’ approached me and told me I could not have my bag in the gym. Fine, whatever their reasoning is. She didn’t seem to say anything to other 8+ people there with bags. (My bag carries the accessories I use and it has never been an issue in any other gym) The tone of her voice was rude and she pretty much said my only option to finish my workout was to put bag in my locker or leave. When I mentioned to her what about the other people with bags she said “she’s with a client...” lol This is actually how you get people NOT to join this facility. Ridiculous Not a place if you’re an avid gym goer This is easily the worst gym in Hamilton.

Drop in programs are first come first serve basis which they never told you while enrolling you nor mentioned on website so be prepared if you have to turned away from Ykids program on a busy day .They shouldn’t be taking in more more if they cannot hire more on call staff.Must be given 0 stars
